Se registra un estudio anual acerca de los conjuntos de aves presentes en dos plantaciones de cacao en la región de la Chontalpa, Tabasco. Las aves fueron muestreadas mediante conteos por puntos de radio fijo. Se contaron 3,994 aves representando a 84 especies. Uno de los sitios resultó con mayor riqueza y diversidad que el otro, aspecto que parece estar relacionado a diferencias en diversidad, densidad y cobertura de la vegetación entre los dos sitios. Se discute el valor de los cacaotales en las tierras bajas de Tabasco como reservorios importantes de la biodiversidad avifaunística.

A modular and generic, monolithic integrated MEMS fabrication process is presented to integrate microelectronics (CMOS) with mechanical microstructures (MEMS). The proposed monolithic integrated fabrication process is designed using an intra-CMOS approach (to fabricate the mechanical microstructures into trenches without the need of planarization techniques) and a CMOS module (to fabricate the electronic devices) with a 3 µm length as minimum feature. The microstructures module is made up to three polysilicon layers, and aluminum as electrical interconnecting material. From simulation results, using the SILVACO® suite (Athena and Atlas frameworks), no significant degradation on the CMOS performance devices was observed after MEMS manufacturing stage; however, the thermal budget of the modules plays a crucial role, because it set the conditions for obtaining the complete set of devices fabricated near their optimal point. Finally, to evaluate and to support the development of the proposed integrated MEMS process, a modular test chip that includes electrical test structures, mechanical test structures, interconnection reliability test structures and functional micro-actuators, was also designed. Few publications describe the clinical characteristics and results of PAS management in Latin America, and none of them involve the participation of more than one hospital. We report the clinical results and evaluate the impact of knowing said diagnosis prenatally of patients with Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS), admitted to Latin American hospitals. Table 1 shows the clinical results of groups 1 and 2, with a lower frequency of red blood cell transfusions in patients with a prenatal diagnosis of PAS (67.8% versus 85.3% in group 2). - Abstract
In this work a characterization of silicon carbide films (a- SiC:H) to be used as masking material in wet etching of silicon and glass for MEMS applications is presented. Silicon carbide was deposited by PECVD from silane and methane mixture diluted with hydrogen, at low RF frequency. Film chemical bondings were characterized by IR spectrophotometry and UV/visible transmitance, the surface quality of films was estimated by AFM. A correlation among the Si-C bonding concentration, grain density on film surface, and the films etching resistant was observed. In order to pattern the silicon carbide, samples were dry etched in a RIE/ICP system with CF4 gas, and etch rates as high as 1000 Aå/min were achieved. Silicon carbide films with low rate of silane in the mixture proved to be more resistant to wet solutions of KOH and HF:Cl for etching of silicon and glass, respectively.

28. Fabrication of an Integrated, Flexible, Wireless Pressure Sensor Array for the Monitoring of Ventricular Pressure.

- Abstract
This work presents the design, fabrication, and rigorous validation of a flexible, wireless, capacitive pressure sensor for the full-range continuous monitoring of ventricular pressure. The proposed system consists of an implantable set and an external readout device; both modules were designed to form an RCL resonant circuit for passive, wireless pressure sensing and signal retrieving. Using surface micromachining and flexible electronics techniques, a two-variable capacitor array and a dual-layer planar coil were integrated into a flexible ergonomic substrate, avoiding hybrid-like connections in the implantable set. The proposed arrangement (capacitor array and dual-layer coil) allows us to optimize the operation pressure range and sensing distance. The use of polyimide as both the flexible substrate and the passivation material is a key feature, ensuring a biocompatible, implantable set that is mechanically flexible and can be folded to a compact size to achieve minimally invasive implantation. An external readout device has also been developed using a discrete printed circuit board (PCB) approach to support pressure measurements. The pressure responsivity of the sensor was validated to the laboratory level using a controlled pressure chamber. The results obtained show that the capacitance value of the sensor changed from 5.68 pF to 33.26 pF as the pressure varied from 0 to 300 mmHg. Correspondingly, the resonance frequency of the implantable set shifted from 12.75 MHz to 5.27 MHz. The sensitivity of the capacitive sensor was approximately 0.58 pF/mmHg and the typical response time was 220 ms. The wireless system performance was evaluated in both air and synthetic biological tissue using a Maxwell-Wien bridge circuit. The results showed a sensing distance longer than 3.5 cm, even under moderate misalignment conditions (up to 1.5 cm). The output voltage was successfully measured, ranging from 502.54 mV to 538.29 mV, throughout the full pressure range, with a measurement error of ±2.2 mV.

Objective: The training of groups responsible for managing patients with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is complex because of the lack of hospitals with a high flow of patients and absence of formal educational programs. We report here the results of a virtual training program (VTP) that implemented one-step conservative surgery (OSCS)., Methods: A prospective observation study of OSCS VTP between three expert groups and PAS reference hospitals without experience in OSCS was performed. Accessible or cost-efficient web meeting platforms were used to implement the VTP components: baseline observation of the participant's prior knowledge; instructions about essential PAS surgery topics; case selection and joint planning of surgery; expert group "telepresence" during surgery and postoperative debriefing., Results: One-step conservative surgery was performed successfully at six hospitals. All patients had increta/percreta with a median intraoperative bleeding of 1300 ml (IQR 825-2325) and surgical time of 184 min (IQR 113-240). All groups considered the VTP very useful (n = 33, 97%) or useful (n = 1, 3%), they would use it again (definitely: n = 27, 81.8%; or probably: n = 6, 18.2%), and they would recommend it to other colleagues., Conclusion: Tele education and telepresence during PAS surgery facilitates the implementation of OSCS in selected cases., (© 2021 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics.)

30. Effectiveness of Gas and Chimney Biomass Stoves for Reducing Household Air Pollution Pregnancy Exposure in Guatemala: Sociodemographic Effect Modifiers.

Household air pollution (HAP) due to solid fuel use during pregnancy is associated with adverse birth outcomes. The real-life effectiveness of clean cooking interventions has been disappointing overall yet variable, but the sociodemographic determinants are not well described. We measured personal 24-h PM
2.5 (particulate matter <2.5 µm in aerodynamic diameter) thrice in pregnant women ( n = 218) gravimetrically with Teflon filter, impactor, and personal pump setups. To estimate the effectiveness of owning chimney and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stoves (i.e., proportion of PM2.5 exposure that would be prevented) and to predict subject-specific typical exposures, we used linear mixed-effects models with log (PM2.5 ) as dependent variable and random intercept for subject. Median (IQR) personal PM2.5 in µg/m3 was 148 (90-249) for open fire, 78 (51-125) for chimney stove, and 55 (34-79) for LPG stoves. Adjusted effectiveness of LPG stoves was greater in women with ≥6 years of education (49% (95% CI: 34, 60)) versus <6 years (26% (95% CI: 5, 42)). In contrast, chimney stove adjusted effectiveness was greater in women with <6 years of education (50% (95% CI: 38, 60)), rural residence (46% (95% CI: 34, 55)) and lowest SES (socio-economic status) quartile (59% (95% CI: 45, 70)) than ≥6 years education (16% (95% CI: 22, 43)), urban (23% (95% CI: -164, 42)) and highest SES quartile (-44% (95% CI: -183, 27)), respectively. A minority of LPG stove owners (12%) and no chimney owner had typical exposure below World Health Organization Air Quality guidelines (35 μg/m3 ). Although having a cleaner stove alone typically does not lower exposure enough to protect health, understanding sociodemographic determinants of effectiveness may lead to better targeting, implementation, and adoption of interventions.- Published

- Abstract
In this paper, an alternative strategy for the design of a bidirectional inductive power transfer (IPT) module, intended for the continuous monitoring of cardiac pressure, is presented. This new integrated implantable medical device (IMD) was designed including a precise ventricular pressure sensor, where the available implanting room is restricted to a 1.8 × 1.8 cm
2 area. This work considers a robust magnetic coupling between an external reading coil and the implantable module: a three-dimensional inductor and a touch mode capacitive pressure sensor (TMCPS) set. In this approach, the coupling modules were modelled as RCL circuits tuned at a 13.56 MHz frequency. The analytical design was validated by means of Comsol Multiphysics, CoventorWare, and ANSYS HFSS software tools. A power transmission efficiency (PTE) of 94% was achieved through a 3.5 cm-thick biological tissue, based on high magnitudes for the inductance (L) and quality factor (Q) components. A specific absorption rate (SAR) of less than 1.6 W/Kg was attained, which suggests that this IPT system can be implemented in a safe way, according to IEEE C95.1 safety guidelines. The set of inductor and capacitor integrated arrays were designed over a very thin polyimide film, where the 3D coil was 18 mm in diameter and approximately 50% reduced in size, considering any conventional counterpart. Finally, this new approach for the IMD was under development using low-cost thin film manufacturing technologies for flexible electronics. Meanwhile, as an alternative test, this novel system was fabricated using a discrete printed circuit board (PCB) approach, where preliminary electromagnetic characterization demonstrates the viability of this bidirectional IPT design.- Published

- Abstract
This paper reports the novel design of a touch mode capacitive pressure sensor (TMCPS) system with a wireless approach for a full-range continuous monitoring of ventricular pressure. The system consists of two modules: an implantable set and an external reading device. The implantable set, restricted to a 2 × 2 cm² area, consists of a TMCPS array connected with a dual-layer coil, for making a reliable resonant circuit for communication with the external device. The capacitive array is modelled considering the small deflection regime for achieving a dynamic and full 5⁻300 mmHg pressure range. In this design, the two inductive-coupled modules are calculated considering proper electromagnetic alignment, based on two planar coils and considering the following: 13.56 MHz frequency to avoid tissue damage and three types of biological tissue as core (skin, fat and muscle). The system was validated with the Comsol Multiphysics and CoventorWare softwares; showing a 90% power transmission efficiency at a 3.5 cm distance between coils. The implantable module includes aluminum- and polyimide-based devices, which allows ergonomic, robust, reproducible, and technologically feasible integrated sensors. In addition, the module shows a simplified and low cost design approach based on PolyMEMS INAOE

- Abstract
An analysis of the effect of distance and alignment between two magnetically coupled coils for wireless power transfer in intraocular pressure measurement is presented. For measurement purposes, a system was fabricated consisting of an external device, which is a Maxwell-Wien bridge circuit variation, in charge of transferring energy to a biomedical implant and reading data from it. The biomedical implant is an RLC tank circuit, encapsulated by a polyimide coating. Power transfer was done by magnetic induction coupling method, by placing one of the inductors of the Maxwell-Wien bridge circuit and the inductor of the implant in close proximity. The Maxwell-Wien bridge circuit was biased with a 10 MHz sinusoidal signal. The analysis presented in this paper proves that wireless transmission of power for intraocular pressure measurement is feasible with the measurement system proposed. In order to have a proper inductive coupling link, special care must be taken when placing the two coils in proximity to avoid misalignment between them.

- Abstract
Seventy patients symptoms and signs compatible with gastritis and/or peptic ulcer were included in the study; they were 41 women and 29 men, with an age range of 9-84 years, and they underwent upper endoscopy. Brushing of the antrum was performed and 4 biopsies were taken from it. With the gastric mucus, a smear was prepared for Gram staining; one sample of tissue was placed directly in urea medium and another tissue sample in Skirrow medium; and two samples of tissue were stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and examined under the light microscope. Those patients who were taking antibiotics capable of inhibiting growth of Helicobacter pylori (Hp), the last four weeks prior endoscopy, were excluded from the study. Twenty-six patients (37.1%) were positive (+) for Hp the culture in urea medium. Of these 26 patients, 15 (21.4%) were also positive by the Skirrow method, and 11 (15.7%) by Gram stain. Epigastric pain was the most predominant symptom in (+) patients (80.7%) and (-) patients (68.1%) for Hp. Superficial acute gastritis within the antrum was the most frequent endoscopic finding in (+) (84.6%) and (-) (68.1%) patients. Chronic superficial gastritis was the predominant microscopic finding in (+) (42.3%) and (-) (38.6%) patients as well. Microscopic examination was positive for Hp in 6 (23%) patients by H-E stain. According to these results, there was no statistically significant difference in symptoms, endoscopic and microscopic findings between positive and negative patients for Hp.
