In recent decades, microbial resistance to antimicrobial drugs has emerged as a global health crisis. Therefore, it is crucial to develop alternative therapeutic strategies to address the growing threat of multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens. Researchers and clinicians are increasingly focusing on plant-based products due to their antibiotic properties and lack of associated antibiotic resistance. Plant-based nanoparticles present several benefits, including their natural origin, biocompatibility, and potential for targeted delivery. Our aims in this review were exploration of the complexities and limitations of plant-based phytochemical extraction processes and addressing the challenges of synthesizing nanoparticles for combating multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. It also examined the effectiveness of phytobased nanoparticles in drug delivery systems to treat MDR infections; both alone and in combination with antibiotics, and provided a critical assessment of their potentials as a research avenue. For this, we have taken the diverse methodologies that were previously used to select the best possible process to tackle MDR pathogens using plant extracts. Although using plant-derived products and nanoparticles is a novel approach to address the antimicrobial drug resistance; however, detailed researches are necessary to explore their antibacterial attributes. Specifically, transcriptome profiling should be employed to identify therapeutic molecules from plant-based products that can effectively combat MDR bacteria before synthesis of nano-drugs. The outcomes of this study will enable the researchers to obtain the best approaches to tackle MDR pathogens through using the nano-based phytochemicals.

Introduction: Teenage pregnancy is a subject of concern among adolescents. Inadequate knowledge and misperceptions about pregnancy are major contributing factors to teenage pregnancy. Without a proper understanding, adolescents are involved in unsafe sexual practices, which results in pregnancy. So, perception and understanding are important aspects to explore among adolescents. In this planned scope review, all eligible studies will be identified around the perception, practices, and understanding of teenage pregnancy among married and unmarried adolescent girls. Methods: The Arksey and O’Malley (2005) scoping review framework and the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ Manual (2015) will be used for the planned scoping review. The population, concept, and context strategy (PCC) will be used to develop the research question, search strategy, and eligibility criteria. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA ScR) will be used for the findings of the study. For the literature search, authors will use Google Scholar, PubMed, and ResearchGate electronic databases with specific words such as “teenage”, “adolescence”, “pregnancy”, “perception”, “knowledge”, “awareness” and “abortion”. Result: The planned scoping review will be helpful in addressing the lack of adolescent misperception, malpractices, and misunderstandings regarding teenage pregnancy. It can provide detailed information about teenage pregnancy in the Indian context. Conclusion: The evidence synthesis and gap analysis will be helpful in suggesting insights into the issue of teenage pregnancy, which will be helpful in future policies and programs.

Abstract Background Adolescence is an essential stage for the development of mental health, and suicide is among the leading cause of mortality for adolescents around the world. In India, the suicide rate among adolescents has been increasing in recent years. The scoping review was conducted to map the evidence and address gaps by examining the existing pattern, and trends, and identify the major risk factors of suicide among Indian adolescents. Methods The study was conducted as per the Arksey and O’Malley scoping review framework and the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ manual. The systematic search was performed using electronic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, EMBASE, and PsycINFO, by using specific keywords. After the screening, 35 articles were identified according to the inclusion criteria. Results The evidence on the trends of suicide among adolescents showed that the suicide rate has shown an alarming increase in recent years. The evidence pattern showed that hanging and poisoning were the commonly selected methods used by adolescents. The most commonly reported risk factors were mental health problems (54.28%), negative or traumatic familiar issues (34.28%), academic stress (22.85%), social/lifestyle factors (20%), violence (22.85%), economic distresses (8.75%), relationship factor (8.75%). Conclusion By synthesizing and summarising the patterns, trends, and key risk factors of suicide among Indian adolescents, this scoping review provides a broad understanding of the literature already in existence. In order to effectively tackle these issues, the finding highlights the urgent need for extensive and targeted suicide prevention measures.

Abstract Background Teenage pregnancy is a concerning public health problem in India. Misperception and misunderstanding about pregnancy and its preventive methods lead to pregnancy when adolescents are involved in unsafe sexual intercourse. This scoping review aims to discuss the evidence on the perception, practices, and understanding related to teenage pregnancy among adolescent girls in the Indian context. Method The Arksey and O'Malley scoping review framework and Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ Manual were used for the scoping review. The Population, Concept, and Context strategy (PCC) ensured the review questions, eligibility criteria, and search strategy. The Systematic Review and Meta-analysis: Extension for Scoping Review (PRISMA-ScR) was used. A literature search was done using electronic databases by specific keywords such as “teenage”, “adolescences”, “pregnancy”, “perception”, “knowledge”, “awareness”, etc. Relevant grey literature was identified through further searching. The review included studies that fulfil inclusion criteria having female adolescent groups aged from 10 to 19 years in the Indian context between the years 2000 and 2021. Results We found 40 eligible studies; more than half of these were from southern (35%) and northern (27.5%) regions, and studies from the rest of India were very sporadically distributed. Most studies (72.5%) were published in the last 10 years. The relevant extracted data from individual studies were synthesized and presented in the two major sections, perception, practices, and the second one, understanding and experiences among teenage girls. The understanding of pregnancy and teenage pregnancy-related preventive methods was detailed analysis in about 72% of papers whereas other aspects, such as perception (22.5%), practices (25%), and experiences (7.5%) were discussed in the remaining papers related to pregnancy among adolescent girls. Conclusion Evidence in the selected studies shows that understanding and practices are the major areas that were primarily explored, where perception, practices and experiences are the topics that are relatively less investigated. Literature synthesis derives misconception, lack of understanding, and practices without knowing the consequences are the key factors responsible for early pregnancies. Future interventions like increasing awareness, providing comprehensive reproductive knowledge, convenient health care aids, and proper counselling are adequate measures for minimalising the problem. The present analysis showed that studies are limited in their scope concerning various aspects of teenage pregnancy in India, so this scoping review gives essential perspectives on future research and implementation plans and policies in this field.

Unhealthy food behaviors are the major contributing factors to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among adolescents in India. Knowledge and practices related to unhealthy eating are significant factors influencing adolescents’ food behavior. In this scoping review, we aim to map evidence and identify gaps on knowledge, practices, and the influencing factors associated with unhealthy food behavior among Indian adolescents by examining the existing literature. Arksey and O’Malley’s scoping review framework and the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ manual were used for this review. After the screening, 33 articles were identified according to the inclusion criteria. Data extraction was performed according to the study objectives, followed by narrative summarization. The studies included a total of 20,566 adolescents. Most studies reported insufficient knowledge about healthy food choices among adolescents. Diet intake patterns among the adolescents showed a lower amount of fruits and vegetables and an increase in fried items, sugar-sweetened beverages, packaged food, and fast food in both sexes, with a broader association with peer influence (21.2%), parental unhealthy food behavior (15.1%), place of residence (6.06%), emotional status (6.06%), and mass media exposure (18.1%). The scoping review highlights the need for targeted interventions aimed at improving the knowledge and practices of Indian adolescents by promoting healthy food choices and sensitizing them about the risk of non-communicable diseases. The analysis of evidence around adolescent dietary behavior in India shows a monotonous, limited, and narrow range in scope, indicating the extended need for research.

IntroductionAcquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a major health concern among Indian adolescents (10-19 years). Indian adolescents lack adequate knowledge about HIV/AIDS and adopt wrong practices. The present scoping review aims to understand the status of knowledge, beliefs and practices among Indian adolescents about HIV or HIV/AIDS. The present study will also focus on their understanding and the source of knowledge and awareness regarding HIV/AIDS.MethodologyThe recommendations of Arksey and O'Malley in 2005, Levac et al. in 2010 and The Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers' manual in 2015 to conduct a systematic scoping review will be employed. The review questions, eligibility criteria and search strategy for this study will be ensured by the Population, Concept and Context (PCC) strategy. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) will be used for reporting of this scoping review. The methodological quality of all the relevant studies will be assessed by the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT), Version- 2018. Literature search will be carried out by using electronic databases such as PubMed, APA PsycInfo, EMBASE, and Google Scholar. Cross-references will be used to extract additional studies.Ethics and disseminationAs the planned study is based on secondary data and doesn't involve human and animal subjects, there is no requirement for formal ethical approval.Strengths and limitations of the studyThe planned scoping review is the first of such study on the topic of HIV/AIDS among adolescent population in India as per the electronically available literature.There will be quality assessment of all the included studies.A thorough search strategy will be conducted as per the recommendations of the experts in scoping review search.On limitation side, the planned study will only utilize electronically available resources/evidences that are written in English language.The planned evidence based study will be of much help for the healthcare professionals and policy makers.

Therefore, this review aims to study the patterns, trends, and major risk factors of suicidal behavior among Indian adolescents.MethodsThe study will be conducted as per the Arksey and O'Malley scoping review framework and the Joanna Briggs institute Reviewers' manual. The Population, Concept and Context strategy (PCC) will ensure the review questions, eligibility criteria and search strategy. This study will be limited to English language and electronically available evidence.

Abstract Climate variability, particularly that of the annual air temperature and rainfall, has received a great deal of attention worldwide. The magnitude of the variability or fluctuations of the factors varies according to locations. Hence, examining the spatiotemporal dynamics of meteorological variables in the context of changing climate, particularly in countries where rainfed agriculture is predominant, is vital to assess climate‐induced changes and suggest feasible adaptation strategies. To that end, the present study examines long‐term changes and short‐term fluctuations in monsoonal rainfall and temperature over Kalahandi, Bolangir and Koraput (hereafter KBK) districts in the state of Odisha. Both rainfall and temperature data for period of 1980–2017 were analyzed in this study. Statistical trend analysis techniques namely Mann–Kendall test and Sen's slope estimator were used to examine and analyze the problems. The detailed analysis of the data for 37 years indicate that the annual maximum temperature and annual minimum temperature have shown an increasing trend, whereas the monsoon's maximum and minimum temperatures have shown a decreasing trend. Statistically significant trends are detected for rainfall and also the result is statistically significant at 99% confidence limit during the period of 1980–2017. Rainfall is showing a quite good increasing trend (Sen's slope = 4.034) for JJAS season. In the case of maximum temperature for the observed period, it showed a slight warming or increasing trend (Sen's slope = 0.29) while the minimum temperature trend showed a cooling trend (Sen's slope = −0.006) but result of maximum temperature trend analysis is statistically significant at 95% confidence limit, on the contrary, the trend analysis result of minimum temperature is not statistically significant.

The Himalayas have become synonymous with the hydropower developments for larger electricity demands of India’s energy sector. In the Himachal Himalayas though, there are only three large storage dams with more than 1000 megawatts (hereafter MW) capacity that have very serious environmental issues. However, hundreds of small runoff-river hydropower plants across the Himachal Himalayas are a serious threat to the river regimes and Himalayan biota. There are 965 identified hydropower projects (hereafter HPPs) having a potential capacity of 27,436 MW in the Himachal Pradesh as of December 2019 as per the Directorate of Energy of the state. Out of the 965 identified, 216 are commissioned, including less than 5 MW plants, with an installed capacity of 10,596 MW, and were operational by December 2019. Only 58 projects are under construction among the identified with an installed capacity of 2351 MW, 640 projects are in various stages of clearance and investigation with an installed capacity 9260 MW, 30 projects are to be allotted with 1304 MW installed capacity, and merely four projects are disputed/cancelled with installed capacity of 50.50 MW. The large number of HPPs are sanctioned without proper consideration of negative environmental and geohazard impacts on the Himalayan terrestrial biota. In this work, our focus was on the hydropower and climate change impact on the Himalayan river regimes of the Chenab, the Ravi, the Beas, the Satluj, and the Yamuna river basins. We analyzed basin-wise rainfall, temperature, and soil moisture data from 1955 to 2019 to see the trend by applying the Mann–Kendall test, the linear regression model, and Sen’s slope test. A basin-wise hazard zonation map has been drawn to assess the disaster vulnerability, and 12 hydropower sites have been covered through the primary survey for first-hand information of local perceptions and responses owing to hydropower plants.

The potential impact of climate variability on the hydrological regime in the Mahanadi river basin is of great importance for sustainable water resources management. The impact of climate variability on streamflow is analyzed in this study. The impact of climate variability modes on extreme events of Mahanadi basin during June, July, and August (JJA), and September, October, and November (SON) seasons were analyzed, with daily streamflow data of four gauge stations for 34 years from 1980 to 2013 found to be associated with the sea surface temperature variations over Indo-Pacific oceans and Indian monsoon. Extreme events are identified based on their persistent flow for six days or more, where selection of the stations was based on the fact that there was no artificially regulated streamflow in any of the stations. Adequate scientific analysis was done to link the streamflow variability with the climate variability and very significant correlation was found with Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), El Nino Modoki Index (EMI), and Indian monsoon. Agriculture covers major portion of the basin; hence, the streamflow is very much essential for agriculture as well as population depending on it. Any disturbances in the general flow of the river has subjected an adverse impact on the inhabitants’ livelihood. While analyzing the correlation values, it was found that all stations displayed a significant positive correlation with Indian Monsoon. The respective correlation values were 0.53, 0.38, 0.44, and 0.38 for Andhiyarkore, Baronda, Rajim, and Kesinga during JJA season. Again in the case of stepwise regression analysis, Monsoon Index for the June, July, and August (MI-JJA) season (0.537 for Andhiyarkore) plays significant role in determining streamflow of Mahanadi basin during the JJA season and Monsoon Index for July, August, and September (MI-JAS) season (0.410 for Baronda) has a strong effect in affecting streamflow of Mahanadi during the SON season. Flood frequency analysis with Weibull’s plotting position method indicates future floods in the Mahanadi river basin in JJA season.

Most tropical regions in the world are vulnerable to climate variability, given their dependence on rain-fed agricultural production and limited adaptive capacity owing to socio-economic conditions. The Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Koraput districts of the south-western part of Odisha province of India experience an extreme sub-humid tropical climate. Based on the observed changes in the magnitude and distribution of rainfall and temperature, this study evaluates the potential impact of climate variation on agricultural yield and production in these districts. The study is conducted by taking into account meteorological data like rainfall and temperature from 1980 to 2017 and crop productivity data from 1980−81 to 2016−17. Additionally, climate variability indices like Monsoon Index, Oceanic Nino Index, and NINO-3 and NINO 3.4 are used. To analyse the data, various statistical techniques like correlation and multiple linear regression are used. The amount of monsoon rainfall is found to have a significant impact on crop productivity, compared to temperature, in the study area, and as a result the Monsoon Index has a determining impact on crop yield among various indices.
