Spectral libraries play a major role in imaging spectroscopy. They are commonly used to store end-member and spectrally pure material spectra, which are primarily used for mapping or unmixing purposes. However, the development of spectral libraries is time consuming and usually sensor and site dependent. Spectral libraries are therefore often developed, used and tailored only for a specific case study and only for one sensor. Multi-sensor and multi-site use of spectral libraries is difficult and requires technical effort for adaptation, transformation, and data harmonization steps. Especially the huge amount of urban material specifications and its spectral variations hamper the setup of a complete spectral library consisting of all available urban material spectra. By a combined use of different urban spectral libraries, besides the improvement of spectral inter- and intra-class variability, missing material spectra could be considered with respect to a multi-sensor/ -site use. Publicly available spectral libraries mostly lack the metadata information that is essential for describing spectra acquisition and sampling background, and can serve to some extent as a measure of quality and reliability of the spectra and the entire library itself. In the GenLib project, a concept for a generic, multi-site and multi-sensor usable spectral library for image spectra on the urban focus was developed. This presentation will introduce a 1) unified, easy-to-understand hierarchical labeling scheme combined with 2) a comprehensive metadata concept that is 3) implemented in the SPECCHIO spectral information system to promote the setup and usability of a generic urban spectral library (GUSL). The labelling scheme was developed to ensure the translation of individual spectral libraries with their own labelling schemes and their usually varying level of details into the GUSL framework. It is based on a modified version of the EAGLE classification concept by combining land use, land cover, land characteristics and spectral characteristics. The metadata concept consists of 59 mandatory and optional attributes that are intended to specify the spatial context, spectral library information, references, accessibility, calibration, preprocessing steps, and spectra specific information describing library spectra implemented in the GUSL. It was developed on the basis of existing metadata concepts and was subject of an expert survey. The metadata concept and the labelling scheme are implemented in the spectral information system SPECCHIO, which is used for sharing and holding GUSL spectra. It allows easy implementation of spectra as well as their specification with the proposed metadata information to extend the GUSL. Therefore, the proposed data model represents a first fundamental step towards a generic usable and continuously expandable spectral library for urban areas. The metadata concept and the labelling scheme also build the basis for the necessary adaptation and transformation steps of the GUSL in order to use it entirely or in excerptsfor further multi-site and multi-sensor applications.

Introduction Effects of antiepileptic drug (AED) load changes in patients with focal seizures have not been well evaluated. Methods SP1065 (NCT01673282) was a noninterventional, prospective, observational study conducted in a clinical practice setting. Patients (aged ≥18 years) with focal seizures were enrolled within 7 days of being prescribed adjunctive lacosamide. Observation period was ~6 months. Drug load was assessed using percentage change in ratio of actual prescribed dose and World Health Organization defined daily dose (DDD) for concomitant AEDs and all AEDs (including lacosamide). Subgroups were defined for patients with at least one concomitant sodium channel–blocking AED (SCB [+]) and those without (SCB [−]). Results A total of 311 patients were assessed for safety, 302 for measurement of drug load, and 240 for effectiveness. Ratio of AED dose to DDD decreased for concomitant AEDs (−9.6%) and increased for all AEDs (including lacosamide; 15.5%). Median reduction in focal seizure frequency per 28 days was 100% (range: −100, 2275.8). 70.4% and 61.7% of patients had a ≥50% or ≥75% reduction in seizure frequency, respectively; 50.8% became seizure‐free. In the SCB (+) subgroup (n = 149), ratio of AED dose to DDD decreased for concomitant AEDs (−15.0%) and increased for all AEDs (10.7%). In the SCB (−) subgroup (n = 153), ratio of AED dose to DDD decreased for concomitant AEDs (−4.4%) and increased for all AEDs (20.2%). Fifty‐seven patients (18.3%) reported ADRs, most commonly dose >400 mg/d (7.1%). Seventeen patients (5.5%) had ADRs leading to discontinuation. Significance Addition of lacosamide resulted in reduction of concomitant AED drug load regardless of whether concomitant AEDs were SCB (+) or SCB (−). These results indicate that addition of lacosamide in patients with focal seizures could allow clinicians to withdraw or reduce the dose of less well‐tolerated or less effective AEDs.

Im Statistischen Bundesamt begannen im August des Jahres 2020 die Arbeiten zur Berechnung der Ökosystemgesamtrechnungen. Deren Ziel ist eine bundesweit räumlich und zeitlich konsistente Datengrundlage zu Ausmaß, Zustand und Leistungen der Ökosysteme für den Menschen, um politische Entscheidungsfindungen effektiv unterstützen zu können. Die Flächenbilanzierung, welche die Ökosysteme Deutschlands erfasst, klassifiziert und in Kartenform darstellt, bildet den Ausgangspunkt des Berichtssystems. Der Vergleich zwischen den Flächenbilanzen verschiedener Erhebungsjahre bietet zudem die Möglichkeit, Veränderungen zwischen Ökosystemen auszuweisen. At the Federal Statistical Office, work on the compilation of ecosystem accounts began in August 2020. The aim of this work is to create a nationwide, spatially and temporally consistent data basis on the extent and condition of the ecosystems and the services they provide to humans, in order to effectively support political decision-making. The extent account, in which Germany's ecosystems are recorded, classified and mapped, constitutes the basis of the reporting system. The comparison between the extent accounts of different survey years also offers the possibility to identify changes between ecosystems.

Ab dem Berichtsjahr 2023 wird für die amtliche Flächenstatistik ein überarbeiteter Nutzungsartenkatalog zum Einsatz kommen. Anlass hierfür ist ein in der Vermessungs­- und Katasterverwaltung durchgeführter und von der Statistik begleiteter Paradigmenwechsel, dem eine neue Sicht auf die Beschreibung der Erdoberfläche zugrunde liegt. Die konsequente Trennung zwischen den beiden Themen Landbedeckung und Landnutzung ist dabei der zentrale Grundsatz. Als konzeptionelle Vorlage wurde hierfür das europäische EAGLE­Datenmodell herangezogen. Der Beitrag erläutert Probleme und Herangehensweise zur Trennung der beiden Themen und stellt den neuen Nutzungsartenkatalog zur Erweiterten Tatsächlichen Nutzung vor. A revised catalogue of use types for official area statistics will be employed from reference year 2023. This is owing to a paradigm shift effected in the land surveying and land register administrations and supported by statisticians, based on a new perspective on how to describe the earth's surface. The key principle is to distinguish clearly between land cover and land use and deal with these two topics separately. The concept of the European EAGLE data model was used as a basis. This paper discusses problems of and approaches to treating the two topics separately and presents the new catalogue of use types for extended actual use.

Die Flächenerhebung nach Art der tatsächlichen Nutzung basiert als Sekundärstatistik auf den Katasterdaten der Liegenschafts- und Vermessungsbehörden der Länder. Der Umstellungsprozess vom alten Nutzungsartenverzeichnis des Automatisierten Liegenschaftsbuches (ALB) auf den neuen Nutzungsartenkatalog des Amtlichen Liegenschaftskataster-Informationssystems (ALKIS) hat die Datengrundlage für die amtliche Flächenstatistik durch Aktualisierungen und Anpassungen beeinflusst. Mit der Ausweisung der Flächennutzung in der neuen ALKIS-Terminologie ab dem Berichtsjahr 2016 erhofft sich die amtliche Flächenstatistik stärkere Harmonisierungseffekte in der Datengrundlage. Auf internationaler Ebene sucht man ebenfalls nach Wegen, die unterschiedlichen Berichtssysteme zur Flächennutzung zu harmonisieren. Ein grundlegendes Prinzip ist hierbei die Trennung und Vervollständigung von Landbedeckung (LB) und Landnutzung (LN). In Deutschland intensivieren sich die Bemühungen zwischen Bund und Ländern um eine homogenere und national umfangreichere, vergleichbarere Datengrundlage, angestoßen durch Arbeitsgruppe Harmonisierung ALKIS-ATKIS (AG HarmAA) innerhalb der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Vermessungsverwaltungen (AdV). Der folgende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Flächenerhebung 2014 und dem Ausblick auf zukünftige Neuerungen und Anpassungen, die auf die Flächenstatistik zukommen.

EAGLE steht für EIONET Action Group on Land Monitoring in Europe. Die Arbeitsgruppe ging aus einer Eigeninitiative von Land Monitoring-Experten und Vertretern der Nationalen Referenzzentren zu Land Cover (NRC) aus dem Umweltinformationsnetzwerk (EIONET) der Europäischen Umweltagentur (EEA) hervor. Das EAGLE-Konzept ist ein Instrument zur semantischen Analyse von Klassendefinitionen landbezogener Datensätze, um Inkonsistenzen (definitorische Überlagerungen/Lücken) aufzufinden. Es stellt kein erneutes Klassifikationssystem dar, sondern soll als Vehikel zur semantischen Harmonisierung zwischen Datensätzen verschiedener Klassifikation dienen. Das EAGLE-Datenmodell bietet einen Rahmen zum Aufbau und Design von deskriptiven Nomenklaturen und ist dabei in seiner Struktur flexibel für anwendungsspezifische Erweiterungen. Durch seinen integrativen Charakter kann es helfen, redundante Datenerhebungen zu vermeiden. Das Modell lässt sich auf regelmäßige unveränderte und stabile geometrische Einheiten, d. h. Gridzellen und Punkte oder auf Polygone anwenden. Das EAGLE-Konzept folgt dem Prinzip des integrativen Bottom-up/Top-Down-Ansatzes im Europäischen Land-Monitoring-Prozess; es zielt darauf ab sowohl vertikal zwischen der nationalen und europäischen Ebene als auch horizontal zwischen nationalen oder regionalen Ebenen Informationen zu Landbedeckung und Landnutzung auszutauschen. Das Konzept hat mittlerweile Eingang erhalten in verschiedene Testanwendungen, z. B. von Eurostat, der EEA oder auch im Rahmen von einigen nationalen Forschungsvorhaben. Die EEA unterstützt die weitere Entwicklung des Konzeptes.

Background: Of the newer antiepileptic drugs, lamotrigine (LTG) and levetiracetam (LEV) are popular first choice drugs for epilepsy. The authors compared these drugs with regard to their efficacy and tolerability in the initial monotherapy for epilepsy. Methods: A randomised, open-label, controlled, parallel group, multicenter trial was conducted to test the superiority of the LEV arm over the LTG arm. The primary endpoint was the rate of seizure-free patients in the first 6 weeks (two-sided Fisher's exact test, α=0.05, intent-to-treat set). Furthermore, efficacy, tolerability and quality of life were evaluated. The authors included 409 patients aged ≥12 years with newly diagnosed focal or generalised epilepsy defined by either two or more unprovoked seizures or one first seizure with high risk for recurrence. Patients were titrated to 2000 mg/day of LEV or 200 mg/day of LTG reached on day 22 or 71, respectively. Two dose adjustments by 500/50 mg were allowed. Results: The proportions of seizure-free patients were 67.5% (LEV) versus 64.0% (LTG) 6 weeks after randomisation (p=0.47), and 45.2% (LEV) versus 47.8% (LTG) during the whole treatment period of 26 weeks. The HR (LEV vs LTG) for seizure-free time was 0.86 (95% CI, 0.61 to 1.22). Adverse events occurred in 74.5% (LEV) versus 70.6% (LTG) of the patients (p=0.38). Adverse events associated with study discontinuation occurred in 17/204 (LEV) versus 8/201 (LTG) patients (p=0.07). Conclusions: There were no significant differences with regard to efficacy and tolerability of LEV and LTG in newly diagnosed focal and generalised epilepsy despite more rapid titration in the LEV arm.
