Nanobubbles are designed to increase structural stability and enhance the distribution of the transported drug to the targeted site. They can efficiently penetrate the desired area from the bloodstream due to the small size of nanobubbles. In general, the structure of the bubbles contains a gas inside, surrounded by an outer polymeric shell. In this study, perfluoropentane was utilized as a gaseous core whereas collagen was used to form shells because of its biodegradability and excellent biocompatibility. The release studies of collagen nanobubbles prepared at several drug doses were carried out in a Franz cell using a dialysis membrane at different pH (5.5–7.4) and temperature (4.0–40.0 °C) ranges. In the release experiments with collagen nanobubbles, it was observed that approximately 70% of the drug was released within 6 days at pH 7.4 whereas the same releasing rate was achieved within only 24 h after exploding by ultrasound treatment. At the same time, a cytotoxicity study was carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the synthesized nanobubbles. With increasing drug loading concentration and ultrasound treatment, the cytotoxic activities of nanobubbles became similar to those of the free drug (ibrutinib). Furthermore, cell culture studies were performed to assess in vitro drug-releasing efficiencies of nanobubbles by using the HeLa cell line as a model of soft cancer tissue. Engine numbers, which involve information regarding the engine type, production number, and year and place of manufacture, are used for identification purposes. Comprising of unique alphanumeric characters, the engine numbers are fully or partially obliterated especially in auto theft and smuggling cases to conceal the origin, identity, and owner of vehicles. The limitations of the current restoration techniques such as the difficulty of using chemical liquid etching in vertical sites, the restrictions of magnetic and optical methods, and the applicability of several techniques like electron backscatter diffraction only in the laboratory environment prompt the development of new techniques. In view of these limitations and the importance of restoring engine numbers in criminal investigations, this unique study aimed to develop an etching paste that would restore the effaced characters on a real aluminum alloy engine block. The characters which were cold‐stamped on the engine block were milled at varying depths and restoration attempts were conducted using etching pastes formed with different chemicals and materials. The analyses indicate that the etching paste formed with 200 mg of perlite, 400 mg of iron powder, and 450 μL of 20 M NaOH provided restoration to a good extent. The prevention of over‐etching through the controlling of the chemical reaction and the cost‐effectiveness appears to be the advantages of this technique. The success of recovery on the real engine block, the facilitation of restoration on curved surfaces, and the chance of on‐site usage will likely make the etching paste a widely used tool in serial number restoration. In this study, a new approach for the detection of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in aqueous media is presented by combining molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors. Herein, BaP imprinted sensor was fabricated on a SPR chip in the presence of a pre-polymerization complex of BaP and N-methacryloyl-L-phenylalanine, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA). The developed sensor was characterized by atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and contact angle measurements. Association kinetics analysis via Scatchard, Langmuir, Freundlich, Langmuir–Freundlich isotherms were applied to the data and Langmuir adsorption model was found as the most accurate model for the affinity sensor system. MIPs-based SPR sensor linearly responded to BaP in a concentration range of 20-400 ng mL−1 with an excellent LOD of 14.97 ng L−1. The SPR sensor was found to be highly selective toward BaP according to the selectivity study results in the presence of interfering agents such as benzo[b]floranthene (BbF), benzo[k]floranthene (BkF), indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene (IcdP), and 1-naphthol. The studies demonstrated that MIPs-based SPR sensor provides rapid and reliable detection and identification of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) within a quite short time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to develop an effective controlled drug delivery system based on alginate beads to treat autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). The present study describes the drug delivery systems to control the practical uses of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) by Ca-alginate beads. The characterization techniques were employed to evaluate the physicochemical properties as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), swelling test (S), hydrolytic degradation (weight loss, WL), and Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR). The release studies from alginate beads prepared in various drug doses were carried out in the aqueous solutions at different pH (5-8) and temperatures (4-37°C). The approximately half-amount of HCQ in HCQ-AB3 was released in 12 h, and about 84.38% was released within 8 days. Korsmeyer-Peppas was applied to model the HCQ release kinetic of alginate beads, which corresponded to the non-Fickian transport mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study described the performance of carbon nanofiber modified chitosan (CNF@CS) composite microspheres for the controlled release of the Ibrutinib (IBR) drug. The surface morphology, particle sizes, and functional group contents of the microspheres were characterized by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), scanning electron, and optical microscopy measurements. The obtained data demonstrated that the addition of CNF to the microsphere increased the encapsulation efficiency of the IBR while allowing the controlled and gradual release of the drug. In terms of the encapsulation efficiency and drug release rate, IBR@CS/TPP/CNF microspheres, achieving drug encapsulation efficiency of 83.09%, have the most suitable formulation according to the comparative studies. Furthermore, according to Korsmeyer-Peppas kinetic model, IBR release mechanism was anomalous diffusion (swelling-controlled behavior and diffusion.) because the IBR release profile was completed in 78 h under optimized conditions. Immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography (IMAC) has been used for purification of proteins. IMAC introduces a new approach for selectively interacting biomolecules on the basis of their affinities for metal ions. The separation is based on different binding abilities of the proteins to the chelated metal ions on support. Here, N-methacryloyl-(L)-histidine methyl ester (MAH) is used as the metal-chelating ligand. Poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) Poly(HEMA) based membranes were prepared by photo-polymerization technique. Then, Zn(2+), Ni(2+), Co(2+), and Cu(2+) ions were chelated directly on the poly(HEMA-MAH) membranes for purification of immunoglobulin G (IgG) from human plasma.
