1. Giant ultrafast dichroism and birefringence with active nonlocal metasurfaces

Abstract: Abstract Switching of light polarization on the sub-picosecond timescale is a crucial functionality for applications in a variety of contexts, including telecommunications, biology and chemistry. The ability to control polarization at ultrafast speed would pave the way for the development of unprecedented free-space optical links and of novel techniques for probing dynamical processes in complex systems, as chiral molecules. Such high switching speeds can only be reached with an all-optical paradigm, i.e., engineering active platforms capable of controlling light polarization via ultrashort laser pulses. Here we demonstrate giant modulation of dichroism and birefringence in an all-dielectric metasurface, achieved at low fluences of the optical control beam. This performance, which leverages the many degrees of freedom offered by all-dielectric active metasurfaces, is obtained by combining a high-quality factor nonlocal resonance with the giant third-order optical nonlinearity dictated by photogenerated hot carriers at the semiconductor band edge.

Abstract: Abstract Mutually entangled multi-photon states are at the heart of all-optical quantum technologies. While impressive progresses have been reported in the generation of such quantum light states using free space apparatus, high-fidelity high-rate on-chip entanglement generation is crucial for future scalability. In this work, we use a bright quantum-dot based single-photon source to demonstrate the high fidelity generation of 4-photon Greenberg-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states with a low-loss reconfigurable glass photonic circuit. We reconstruct the density matrix of the generated states using full quantum-state tomography reaching an experimental fidelity to the target state of $${{{{\mathcal{F}}}}}_{{{{{\rm{GHZ}}}}}_{4}}=(86.0\pm 0.4)\, \%$$ F GHZ 4 = ( 86.0 ± 0.4 ) % , and a purity of $${{{{\mathcal{P}}}}}_{{{{{\rm{GHZ}}}}}_{4}}=(76.3\pm 0.6)\, \%$$ P GHZ 4 = ( 76.3 ± 0.6 ) % . The entanglement of the generated states is certified with a semi device-independent approach through the violation of a Bell-like inequality by more than 39 standard deviations. Finally, we carry out a four-partite quantum secret sharing protocol on-chip where a regulator shares with three interlocutors a sifted key with up to 1978 bits, achieving a qubit-error rate of 10.87%. These results establish that the quantum-dot technology combined with glass photonic circuitry offers a viable path for entanglement generation and distribution.

Abstract: The elementary excitations in weakly interacting quantum fluids have a nontrivial nature which is at the basis of defining quantum phenomena such as superfluidity. These excitations and the physics they lead to have been explored in closed quantum systems at thermal equilibrium both theoretically within the celebrated Bogoliubov framework and experimentally in quantum fluids of ultracold atoms. Over the past decade, the relevance of Bogoliubov excitations has become essential to understand quantum fluids of interacting photons. Their driven-dissipative character leads to distinct properties with respect to their equilibrium counterparts. For instance, the condensate coupling to the photonic vacuum environment leads to a nonzero generation rate of elementary excitations with many striking implications. In this work, considering that quantum fluids of light are often hosted in solid-state systems, we show within a joint theory-experiment analysis that the vibrations of the crystal constitute another environment that the condensate is fundamentally coupled to. This coupling leads to a unique heat transfer mechanism, resulting in a large generation rate of elementary excitations in typical experimental conditions, and to a fundamental nonzero contribution at vanishing temperatures. Our work provides a complete framework for solid-embedded quantum fluids of light, which is invaluable in view of achieving a regime dominated by photon-vacuum fluctuations.

6. Quantifying n-Photon Indistinguishability with a Cyclic Integrated Interferometer

Abstract: We report on a universal method to measure the genuine indistinguishability of n photons—a crucial parameter that determines the accuracy of optical quantum computing. Our approach relies on a low-depth cyclic multiport interferometer with N=2n modes, leading to a quantum interference fringe whose visibility is a direct measurement of the genuine n-photon indistinguishability. We experimentally demonstrate this technique for an eight-mode integrated interferometer fabricated using femtosecond laser micromachining and four photons from a quantum dot single-photon source. We measure a four-photon indistinguishability up to 0.81±0.03. This value decreases as we intentionally alter the photon pairwise indistinguishability. The low-depth and low-loss multiport interferometer design provides an original path to evaluate the genuine indistinguishability of resource states of increasing photon number.

7. Tunable second harmonic generation by an all-dielectric diffractive metasurface embedded in liquid crystals

Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to modulate the second harmonic (SH) power emitted by nonlinear AlGaAs metasurfaces embedded in a liquid crystal (LC) matrix. This result is obtained by changing the relative in-plane orientation between the LC director and the linear polarization of the light at the excitation wavelength. According to numerical simulations, second-harmonic is efficiently radiated by the metasurfaces thanks to the sizeable second-order susceptibility of the material and the resonant excitation of either electric or magnetic dipole field distributions inside each meta-atom at the illuminating fundamental wavelength. This resonant behavior strongly depends on the geometric parameters, the crystallographic orientation, and the anisotropy of the metasurface, which can be optimized to modulate the emitted SH power by about one order of magnitude. The devised hybrid platforms are therefore appealing in view of enabling the electrical control of flat nonlinear optical devices.

Abstract: Background: Dielectric nanoantennas have recently emerged as an alternative solution to plasmonics for nonlinear light manipulation at the nanoscale, thanks to the magnetic and electric resonances, the strong nonlinearities, and the low ohmic losses characterizing high refractive-index materials in the visible/near-infrared (NIR) region of the spectrum. In this frame, AlGaAs nanoantennas demonstrated to be extremely efficient sources of second harmonic radiation. In particular, the nonlinear polarization of an optical system pumped at the anapole mode can be potentially boosted, due to both the strong dip in the scattering spectrum and the near-field enhancement, which are characteristic of this mode. Plasmonic nanostructures, on the other hand, remain the most promising solution to achieve strong local field confinement, especially in the NIR, where metals such as gold display relatively low losses.Results: We present a nonlinear hybrid antenna based on an AlGaAs nanopillar surrounded by a gold ring, which merges in a single platform the strong field confinement typically produced by plasmonic antennas with the high nonlinearity and low loss characteristics of dielectric nanoantennas. This platform allows enhancing the coupling of light to the nanopillar at coincidence with the anapole mode, hence boosting both second- and third-harmonic generation conversion efficiencies. More than one order of magnitude enhancement factors are measured for both processes with respect to the isolated structure.Conclusion: The present results reveal the possibility to achieve tuneable metamixers and higher resolution in nonlinear sensing and spectroscopy, by means of improved both pump coupling and emission efficiency due to the excitation of the anapole mode enhanced by the plasmonic nanoantenna.

10. Second-Harmonic Generation in Suspended AlGaAs Waveguides: A Comparative Study

Abstract: Due to adjustable modal birefringence, suspended AlGaAs optical waveguides with submicron transverse sections can support phase-matched frequency mixing in the whole material transparency range, even close to the material bandgap, by tuning the width-to-height ratio. Furthermore, their single-pass conversion efficiency is potentially huge, thanks to the extreme confinement of the interacting modes in the highly nonlinear and high-refractive-index core, with scattering losses lower than in selectively oxidized or quasi-phase-matched AlGaAs waveguides. Here we compare the performances of two types of suspended waveguides made of this material, designed for second-harmonic generation (SHG) in the telecom range: (a) a nanowire suspended in air by lateral tethers and (b) an ultrathin nanorib, made of a strip lying on a suspended membrane of the same material. Both devices have been fabricated from a 123 nm thick AlGaAs epitaxial layer and tested in terms of SHG efficiency, injection and propagation losses. Our results point out that the nanorib waveguide, which benefits from a far better mechanical robustness, performs comparably to the fully suspended nanowire and is well-suited for liquid sensing applications.

12. Temporal coherence of spatially indirect excitons across Bose–Einstein condensation: the role of free carriers

Abstract: We study the time coherence of the photoluminescence radiated by spatially indirect excitons confined in a 10 μ m electrostatic trap. Above a critical temperature of about 1 K, we show that the photoluminescence is homogeneously broadened in the dilute regime, with a spectral width around 500 μ eV that weakly varies with the exciton density. By contrast, the spectral width reduces by two-fold below the critical temperature and for experimental parameters at which excitons undergo a gray Bose–Einstein condensation. We find evidence showing that the photoluminescence temporal coherence is limited by interactions between excitons and a low concentration of residual excess charges, leading to a minimum photoluminescence spectral width of around 300 μ eV in the condensed regime.

13. Electrically Injected Twin Photon Emitting Lasers at Room Temperature

Abstract: On-chip generation, manipulation and detection of nonclassical states of light are some of the major issues for quantum information technologies. In this context, the maturity and versatility of semiconductor platforms are important assets towards the realization of ultra-compact devices. In this paper we present our work on the design and study of an electrically injected AlGaAs photon pair source working at room temperature. The device is characterized through its performances as a function of temperature and injected current. Finally we discuss the impact of the device’s properties on the generated quantum state. These results are very promising for the demonstration of electrically injected entangled photon sources at room temperature and let us envision the use of III-V semiconductors for a widespread diffusion of quantum communication technologies.

Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate the controlled enhancement of the mechanical quality factor Q of gallium arsenide disk optomechanical resonators. Disks vibrating at 1.3 GHz with a mechanical shield integrated in their pedestal show a Q improvement by a factor 10–16. The structure is modeled numerically and different modes of vibration are observed, which shed light on the Q enhancement mechanism. An optimized double-disk geometry is presented that promises Q above the million for a large parameter range.

Abstract: Revealing universal behaviours is a hallmark of statistical physics. Phenomena such as the stochastic growth of crystalline surfaces(1) and of interfaces in bacterial colonies(2), and spin transport in quantum magnets(3-6) all belong to the same universality class, despite the great plurality of physical mechanisms they involve at the microscopic level. More specifically, in all these systems, space-time correlations show power-law scalings characterized by universal critical exponents. This universality stems from a common underlying effective dynamics governed by the nonlinear stochastic Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation(7). Recent theoretical works have suggested that this dynamics also emerges in the phase of out-of-equilibrium systems showing macroscopic spontaneous coherence(8-17). Here we experimentally demonstrate that the evolution of the phase in a driven-dissipative one-dimensional polariton condensate falls in the KPZ universality class. Our demonstration relies on a direct measurement of KPZ space-time scaling laws(18,19), combined with a theoretical analysis that reveals other key signatures of this universality class. Our results highlight fundamental physical differences between out-of-equilibrium condensates and their equilibrium counterparts, and open a paradigm for exploring universal behaviours in driven open quantum systems.

Abstract: Entanglement and spontaneous emission are fundamental quantum phenomena that drive many applications of quantum physics. During the spontaneous emission of light from an excited two-level atom, the atom briefly becomes entangled with the photonic field. Here, we show that this natural process can be used to produce photon-number entangled states of light distributed in time. By exciting a quantum dot -- an artificial two-level atom -- with two sequential pi pulses, we generate a photon-number Bell state. We characterise this state using time-resolved intensity and phase correlation measurements. Furthermore, we theoretically show that applying longer sequences of pulses to a two-level atom can produce a series of multi-temporal mode entangled states with properties intrinsically related to the Fibonacci sequence. Abstract: The ability to combine various advanced functionalities on a single chip is a key issue for both classical and quantum photonic-based technologies. On-chip generation and handling of orthogonally polarized photon pairs, one of the most used resource in quantum information protocols, is a central challenge for the development of scalable quantum photonics circuits; in particular, the management of spectrally broadband biphoton states, an asset attracting a growing attention for its capability to convey large-scale quantum information in a single spatial mode, is missing. Here, we demonstrate a monolithic AlGaAs chip including the generation of broadband orthogonally polarized photon pairs and their polarization splitting; 85% of the pairs are deterministically separated by the chip over a 60 nm bandwidth. The quality of the two-photon interference at the chip output is assessed via a Hong-Ou-Mandel experiment displaying a visibility of 75.5 % over the same bandwidth. These results, obtained at room temperature and telecom wavelength, in a platform combining high second-order nonlinearity, electro-optic effect and direct bandgap, confirm the validity of our approach and represent a significant step towards miniaturized and easy-to-handle photonic devices working in the broadband regime for quantum information processing.

Abstract: We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that a specifically designed microcavity driven in the optical parametric oscillation regime exhibits lighthouse-like emission, i.e., an emission focused around a single direction. Remarkably, the emission direction of this micro-lighthouse is continuously controlled by the linear polarization of the incident laser, and angular beam steering over \unit{360}{\degree} is demonstrated. Abstract: International audience; Nonlinear topological photonics is an emerging field that aims to extend the fascinating properties of topological states to a regime where interactions between the system constituents cannot be neglected. Interactions can trigger topological phase transitions, induce symmetry protection and robustness properties for the many-body system. Here, we report the nonlinear response of a polariton lattice that implements a driven-dissipative version of the Su–Schrieffer–Heeger model. We first demonstrate the formation of topological gap solitons bifurcating from a linear topological edge state. We then focus on the formation of gap solitons in the bulk of the lattice and show that they exhibit robust nonlinear properties against defects, owing to the underlying sublattice symmetry. Leveraging the driven-dissipative nature of the system, we discover a class of bulk gap solitons with high sublattice polarization. We show that these solitons provide an all-optical way to create a non-trivial interface for Bogoliubov excitations. Our results show that coherent driving can be exploited to stabilize new nonlinear phases and establish dissipatively stabilized solitons as a powerful resource for topological photonics.

Abstract: The development of approaches that can efficiently control the magnetization of magnetic materials is central to the creation of fast and low-power spintronic devices. Spin transfer torque can be used to electrically manipulate magnetic order in devices, but is typically limited to nanosecond timescales. Alternatively, spin–orbit torque can be employed, and switching with current pulses down to ~200 ps has been demonstrated. However, the upper limit to magnetization switching speed remains unestablished. Here, we show that photoconductive switches can be used to apply 6-ps-wide electrical pulses and deterministically switch the out-of-plane magnetization of a common thin cobalt film via spin–orbit torque. We probe the ultrafast magnetization dynamics due to spin–orbit torques with sub-picosecond resolution using the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE). We also estimate that the magnetization switching consumes less than 50 pJ in micrometre-sized devices. The magnetization of a cobalt thin film can be reversed by spin–orbit torques using picosecond electrical pulses that are generated by photoconductive switches.

Abstract: We demonstrate multimode optomechanical sensing of individual nanoparticles with radius of a hundred of nanometers. A semiconductor optomechanical disk resonator is optically driven and detected under ambient conditions, as nebulized nanoparticles land on it. Multiple mechanical and optical resonant signals of the disk are tracked simultaneously, providing access to several physical informations about the landing analyte in real-time. Thanks to a fast camera registering the time and position of landing, these signals can be employed to weight each nanoparticle with precision. Sources of error and deviation are discussed and modeled, indicating a path to evaluate the elasticity of the nanoparticles on top of their mere mass. The device is optimized for future investigation of biological particles in the high megadalton range, such as large viruses.; Nous démontrons la détection optomécanique multimode de nanoparticules individuelles d'un rayon de quelques centaines de nanomètres. Un résonateur semi-conducteur en disque optomécanique est actionné et détecté optiquement en conditions ambiantes, pendant que des nanoparticules nébulisées se déposent sur lui. Les multiples signaux de résonances mécaniques et optiques du disque sont suivis simultanément, donnant accès en temps réel à plusieurs informations physiques sur l'analyte qui se dépose. Abstract: Quantum communication networks enable applications ranging from highly secure communication to clock synchronization and distributed quantum computing. Miniaturized, flexible, and cost-efficient resources will be key elements for ensuring the scalability of such networks as they progress towards large-scale deployed infrastructures. Here, we bring these elements together by combining an on-chip, telecom-wavelength, broadband entangled photon source with industry-grade flexible-grid wavelength division multiplexing techniques, to demonstrate reconfigurable entanglement distribution between up to 8 users in a resource-optimized quantum network topology. As a benchmark application we use quantum key distribution, and show low error and high secret key generation rates across several frequency channels, over both symmetric and asymmetric metropolitan-distance optical fibered links and including finite-size effects. By adapting the bandwidth allocation to specific network constraints, we also illustrate the flexible networking capability of our configuration. Abstract: International audience; The control of quantum coupling between nano-objects is essential to quantum technologies. Confined nanostructures, such as cavities, resonators, or quantum dots, are designed to enhance interactions between electrons, photons, or phonons, giving rise to new properties, on which devices are developed. The nature and strength of these interactions are often measured indirectly on an assembly of dissimilar objects. Here, we adopt an innovative point of view by directly mapping the coupling of single nanostructures using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS). We take advantage of the unique capabilities of STM/STS to map simultaneously the nano-object's morphology and electronic density in order to observe in real space the electronic coupling of pairs of In(Ga)As/GaAs self-assembled quantum dots (QDs), forming quantum dot molecules (QDMs). Differential conductance maps dI/dV (E, x, y) demonstrate the presence of an effective electronic coupling, leading to bonding and antibonding states, even for dissymmetric QDMs. The experimental results are supported by numerical simulations. The actual geometry of the QDMs is taken into account to determine the strength of the coupling, showing the crucial role of quantum dot size and pair separation for device growth optimization

Abstract: Topological insulators are good candidates for charge to spin conversion with high efficiency due to their spin-polarized topological surface states (TSSs). In this work, we provide experimental evidence for two-dimensional (2D) TSSs in ${(\mathrm{Sn}{\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Te}}_{4})}_{n} {({\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Te}}_{3})}_{m}$ natural van der Waals superlattices grown by molecular beam epitaxy using angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and magnetotransport. While the TSSs overlap with bulk conduction band (BCB) states at the Fermi energy, it is shown that by increasing the Sn composition, the influence of BCB states is reduced and becomes minimum for $\mathrm{Sn}{\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Te}}_{4}$. The latter compound, found to be in the form of septuplet layers, shows weak antilocalization effect with a prefactor $\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{\sim}--0.41$, indicating that the TSSs and the bulk behave as one 2D channel in which magnetotransport properties are influenced by large spin-orbit coupling.

Abstract: Brillouin spectroscopy emerges as a promising non-invasive tool for nanoscale imaging and sensing. One-dimensional semiconductor superlattice structures are eminently used for selectively enhancing the generation or detection of phonons at few GHz. While commercially available Brillouin spectrometers provide high-resolution spectra, they consist of complex experimental techniques and are not suitable for semiconductor cavities operating at a wide range of optical wavelengths. We develop a pragmatic experimental approach for conventional Brillouin spectroscopy that can integrate a widely tunable excitation-source. Our setup combines a fibered-based angular filtering and a spectral filtering based on a rotating single etalon and a double grating spectrometer for sequential reconstruction of Brillouin spectra. This configuration allows probing confined acoustic phonon modes in the 20-300 GHz frequency range with excellent laser rejection and high spectral resolution. Remarkably, our scheme based on the excitation and collection of the enhanced Brillouin scattering signals through the optical cavity allows for better angular filtering with decreasing phonon frequency. It can be implemented for the study of cavity optomechanics and stimulated Brillouin scattering over broadband optical and acoustic frequency ranges.

Abstract: Rapidly spinning neutron stars are promising sources of continuous gravitational waves. Detecting such a signal would allow probing of the physical properties of matter under extreme conditions. A significant fraction of the known pulsar population belongs to binary systems. Searching for unknown neutron stars in binary systems requires specialized algorithms to address unknown orbital frequency modulations. We present a search for continuous gravitational waves emitted by neutron stars in binary systems in early data from the third observing run of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors using the semicoherent, GPU-accelerated, binaryskyhough pipeline. The search analyzes the most sensitive frequency band of the LIGO detectors, 50-300 Hz. Binary orbital parameters are split into four regions, comprising orbital periods of three to 45 days and projected semimajor axes of two to 40 light seconds. No detections are reported. Abstract: The transient optical response of multiresonant all‐dielectric nanoantennas via a combination of broadband ultrafast reflectivity experiments and nonlinear optics nanoscale modeling is studied. Ultrafast all‐optical control of the reflectivity is demonstrated in variably sized Al.18Ga.82As nanoantennas over four distinct Mie resonances (including Fano‐like resonances), spanning a broad spectral range, from the red to the near‐infrared. A spatially inhomogeneous dynamical model, which accounts for diffusion of the photogenerated carriers inside the semiconductor, is introduced and exploited to isolate the physical phenomena leading to the overall transient response, namely, Drude plasma formation and Pauli blocking following band filling and thermo‐optical effect. The results pave the way to the development of multiwavelength all‐optically reconfigurable filters for next‐generation ultrafast add/drop multiplexing.

Abstract: International audience; Photonic platforms are an excellent setting for quantum technologies because weak photon-environment coupling ensures long coherence times. The second key ingredient for quantum photonics is interactions between photons, which can be provided by optical nonlinearities in the form of cross-phase-modulation (XPM). This approach underpins many proposed applications in quantum optics and information processing, but achieving its potential requires strong single-photon-level nonlinear phase shifts and also scalable nonlinear elements. In this work we show that the required nonlinearity can be provided by exciton-polaritons in micropillars with embedded quantum wells. These combine the strong interactions of excitons with the scalability of micrometer-sized emitters. We observe XPM up to $3 \pm 1$ mrad per particle using laser beams attenuated to below single photon average intensity. With our work serving as a first stepping stone, we lay down a route for quantum information processing in polaritonic lattices.

Abstract: We report the realization of a synthetic magnetic field for photons and polaritons in a honeycomb lattice of coupled semiconductor micropillars. A strong synthetic field is induced in both the s and p orbital bands by engineering a uniaxial hopping gradient in the lattice, giving rise to the formation of Landau levels at the Dirac points. We provide direct evidence of the sublattice symmetry breaking of the lowest-order Landau level wavefunction, a distinctive feature of synthetic magnetic fields. Our realization implements helical edge states in the gap between n = 0 and n = ±1 Landau levels, experimentally demonstrating a novel way of engineering propagating edge states in photonic lattices. Abstract: International audience; Optical Tamm structures offer great possibilities for the development of new optoelectronic devices ranging from polarized laser sources to plasmon generators. Indeed, thanks to the patterning of a thin metallic film alone, microscale confinement of light is achieved, which constitutes a very easy and flexible way to make confined lasers. Here, we report on room-temperature lasing of a Tamm structure, based on an original geometry with enhanced quality factor. In this so-called Super Tamm structure, a low-index dielectric layer is inserted between a silver film and an AlGaAs/AlAs distributed Bragg reflector while keeping the mode confinement at the metallic/dielectric interface. Numerical simulations of this structure show Q-factors up to 6500. Room-temperature lasing is achieved with this new architecture, as demonstrated by the nonlinear emission intensity increase and the spectral and emission-diagram narrowing. This result is a determinant step toward the realization of useful Tamm laser devices.

Abstract: Developing future quantum communication may rely on the ability to engineer cavity-mediated interactions between photons and solid-state artificial atoms, in a deterministic way. Here, we report a set of technological and experimental developments for the deterministic coupling between the optical mode of a micropillar cavity and a quantum dot trion transition. We first identify a charged transition through in-plane magnetic field spectroscopy, and then tune the optical cavity mode to its energy via in-situ lithography. In addition, we design an asymmetric tunneling barrier to allow the optical trapping of the charge, assisted by a quasi-resonant pumping scheme, in order to control its occupation probability. We evaluate the generation of a positively-charged quantum dot through second order auto-correlation measurements of its resonance fluorescence, and the quality of light-matter interaction for these spin-photon interfaces is assessed by measuring the performance of the device as a single-photon source., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: Light states composed of multiple entangled photons - such as cluster states - are essential for developing and scaling-up quantum computing networks. Photonic cluster states with discrete variables can be obtained from single-photon sources and entangling gates, but so far this has only been done with probabilistic sources constrained to intrinsically-low efficiencies, and an increasing hardware overhead. Here, we report the resource-efficient generation of polarization-encoded, individually-addressable, photons in linear cluster states occupying a single spatial mode. We employ a single entangling-gate in a fiber loop configuration to sequentially entangle an ever-growing stream of photons originating from the currently most efficient single-photon source technology - a semiconductor quantum dot. With this apparatus, we demonstrate the generation of linear cluster states up to four photons in a single-mode fiber. The reported architecture can be programmed to generate linear-cluster states of any number of photons with record scaling ratios, potentially enabling practical implementation of photonic quantum computing schemes., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. Abstract: Coherent phonon generation by optical pump-probe experiments has enabled the study of acoustic properties at the nanoscale in planar heterostructures, plasmonic resonators, micropillars and nanowires. Focalizing both pump and probe on the same spot of the sample is a critical part of pump-probe experiments. This is particularly relevant in the case of small objects. The main practical challenges for the actual implementation of this technique are: stability of the spatio-temporal overlap, reproducibility of the focalization and optical mode matching conditions. In this work, we solve these three challenges for the case of planar and micropillar optophononic cavities. We integrate the studied samples to single mode fibers lifting the need for focusing optics to excite and detect coherent acoustic phonons. The resulting excellent reflectivity contrast of at least 66% achieved in our samples allows us to observe stable coherent phonon signals over at least a full day and signals at extremely low excitation powers of 1uW. Abstract: We present the experimental observation of photon-photon interactions at the single-particle level. The linearly polarized signal beam undergoes Faraday rotation by a nonlinear effective magnetic field induced by a very weak circularly polarized control beam due to the giant Kerr-like interactions between exciton-polaritons in our quantum well-based 0D microcavity structures. We measure a phase shift with a slope of 3.5×10^-3 radians per particle for low cavity occupancies between 0.1 and 3 excited by the control beam. These experimental findings are in agreement with theoretical models and pave the way towards the development of scalable photonic quantum gates.

Abstract: Multidimensional coherent spectroscopy directly unravels multiply excited states that overlap in a linear spectrum. We report multidimensional coherent optical photocurrent spectroscopy in a semiconductor polariton diode and explore the excitation ladder of cavity polaritons. We measure doubly and triply avoided crossings for pairs and triplets of exciton polaritons, demonstrating the strong coupling between light and dressed doublet and triplet semiconductor excitations. These results demonstrate that multiply excited excitonic states strongly coupled to a microcavity can be described as two coupled quantum-anharmonic ladders.

Abstract: Semiconductor quantum dots in cavities are promising single-photon sources. Here, we present a path to deterministic operation, by harnessing the intrinsic linear dipole in a neutral quantum dot via phonon-assisted excitation. This enables emission of fully polarized single photons, with a measured degree of linear polarization up to 0.994 $\pm$ 0.007, and high population inversion -- 85\% as high as resonant excitation.
