An ultrathin superconducting bilayer creates a coreless fractional vortex when only the second layer has a hole. The quantization is broken by the hole, and the normal core disappears. The magnetic flux is no longer confined near the normal core, and its density profile around the hole becomes similar to that of a cr\`eme caramel; the divergence of the magnetic flux density is truncated around the center. High-resolution scanning superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) microscopy was used to study the flux quantization phenomenon in multiply-connected anisotropic high-Tc NdBa2Cu3O7-d single crystalline thin films. The spatial distribution of internal flux in a hole was found to be non-uniform and changed drastically for applied small fields. With increased fields above 10uT, a local magnetic dipole flux developed inside the hole, in contrast to an isotropic Nb superconductor. The total net flux trapped in a hole was kept to be constant for larger holes, but the abrupt transition of flux quantization state was observed for smaller holes. The possible explanation is given based on the anisotropic dx2-y2-wave order parameter of high-Tc superconductors., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures

Recently, it has been shown that large stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 emit synchronous THz radiation, the synchronization presumably triggered by a cavity resonance. To investigate this effect we use Low Temperature Scanning Laser Microscopy to image electric field distributions. Apart from verifying the appearance of cavity modes at low bias we find that, in a high input power regime, standing-wave patterns are created through interactions with a hot spot, possibly pointing to a new mode of generating synchronized radiation in intrinsic Josephson junction stacks., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, supplementary information included

A scanning superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) microscope (SSM) is used to study the magnetic imaging of dynamic motion of quantized interlayer vortices induced by the Lorentz force in anisotropic high-Tc La_(1.87)Sr_(0.13)CuO_4 single crystals. It is found that 3 modes of flux motion switch depending on the transport current. By increasing the current a transition from the creep-like behavior of vortices to a steady flow of vortices was observed. Even higher current induced a continuous expansion of vortex-flow area indicating an inhomogeneous distribution of various pinning centers., Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures

The paper reports the first successful fabrication of MgB2 superconducting tape using a flexible metallic substrate as well as its strong pinning force, which was verified by direct measurement of transport critical current density. The tape was prepared by depositing MgB2 film on a Hastelloy tape buffered with an YSZ layer. The Jc of the tape exceeds 105A/cm2 at 4.2K and 10T, which is considered as a common benchmark for magnet application. The Jc dependence on magnetic field remains surprisingly very small up to 10T, suggesting that the tape has much better magnetic field characteristic than conventional Nb-Ti wires in liquid helium., Comment: 3 page PDF file
