Inevitably, emergency surgery and the unknown nature of the disease place a burden on the heavily challenged surgical services for pediatrics in a developing country. Lessons from the pandemic are important for future disaster planning.Aim: To describe the characteristics of pediatric surgical patients with COVID-19 undergoing emergency surgery during the first wave and its perioperative narrative in a developing country. Methods: The study was a multicenter retrospective descriptive study in eight Indonesian government-owned referral and teaching hospitals. The authors reviewed confirmed COVID-19 pediatric patients (≤ 18 years old) who underwent surgery. Institutional review board clearances were acquired, and data were evaluated in proportion and percentages. The writing of this paper follows the STROBE guidelines. Results: About 7791 pediatric surgical cases were collected, 73 matched the study criteria and 24 confirmed cases were found. Cases were more common in females (58.3%), who were above 12 years old (37.5%) and who were asymptomatic (62.5%). Laparotomy (33.3%), general anesthesia (90.4%) and intubation (80.8%) were common, while use of video laryngoscopy (40%) and rapid sequence intubation (28.8%) were rare. The mean length of stay was 12 ± 13.3 days, and in-hospital mortality was 8.3%.Discussions: Lockdown and school closure were successful in protecting children, hence the low incidence of pediatric surgical cases with COVID-19 during the first wave. Many hospitals were unprepared to perform surgery for a droplet or airborne infectious disease, and COVID-19 testing was not available nationally in the early pandemic, hence the use of protective protection equipment during these early pandemic times are often not efficient. Conclusion: The incidence of COVID-19 in pediatric surgical patients is low. The rapidity and availability of preoperative testing for a new emerging disease are essential in a pandemic. Keywords: COVID-19, emergency surgery, operating room, pandemic, pediatric anesthesia, pediatric surgery, perioperative

We assessed the modifiable, non-modifiable, and physiological risk factors of NCDs among the Indonesian population. Methods: Secondary data was analyzed from the 2018 Indonesian basic health research (RISKESDAS). The national survey included participants aged 15– 54 years and obtained 514,351 responses. Linear systematic two-stage sampling was conducted by RISKESDAS. Furthermore, chi-square and binary logistic regression were utilized to explore the determinant of NCDs with a significance level of 95%.Results: We found that almost 10% respondents in Indonesia had NCDs. We observed that depression has a higher odd (aOR: 2.343; 95% CI: 2.235– 2.456) contributed to NCDs and followed other factors such as no education (aOR: 1.049; 95% CI: 1.007– 1.092), passive smoking (aOR: 0.910; 95% CI: 0.878– 0.942), fatty food (aOR: 1.050; 95% CI: 1.029– 1.073), burnt food (aOR: 1.033; 95% CI: 1.005– 1.062), food with preservatives (aOR: 1.038; 95% CI: 1.002– 1.075), seasoned food (aOR: 1.057; 95% CI: 1.030– 1.084), soft drinks (aOR: 1.112; 95% CI: 1.057– 1.169), living in an urban area (aOR: 1.143; 95% CI: 1.119– 1.168), living in central Indonesia (1.243; 95% CI: 1.187– 1.302), being female (aOR: 1.235; 95% CI: 1.177– 1.25), and obese (aOR: 1.787; 95% CI: 1.686– 1.893). Conversely, people in Indonesia who undertook vigorous activity (aOR: 0.892; 95% CI: 0.864– 0.921), had employment (aOR: 0.814; 95% CI: 0.796– 0.834), had access to improved sources of drinking water (aOR: 0.910; 95% CI: 0.878– 0.942), and were aged 35– 44 years (aOR: 0.457; 95% CI: 0.446– 0.467) were less likely to develop NCDs.Conclusion: Modifiable, non-modifiable, and physiological risk factors have a significant influence on NCDs in Indonesia. This finding can be valuable information for Indonesian Government to arrange a cross-collaboration between government, healthcare workers, and society through advocacy, partnership, health promotion, early detection, and management of NCDs.Keywords: non-communicable diseases, NCDs, Indonesia, RISKESDAS

The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with nurse preparedness in disaster management among a sample of community health nurses in coastal areas.Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken from May to August 2020. The sample consisted of 142 nurses who worked at six Public Health Centers in Pangandaran, West Java, Indonesia. Participants were recruited using the total sampling technique. The data were collected using the Emergency Preparedness Information Questionnaire and analyzed using Chi-Square and binary logistic regression. Results: Of the 142 respondents, 54.24% had a high level of preparedness. Multivariate analysis showed that nurses with higher levels of preparedness had worked between 6 and 10 years (adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 12.755, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.653– 61.314). Respondents who lacked disaster training were less likely to have a high level of disaster preparedness (AOR: 4.631, 95% CI: 1.604– 13.367). Respondents who had never served as disaster volunteers were also less likely to have disaster preparedness (AOR: 0.18, 95% CI: 0.053– 0.616).Conclusion: With nearly half of the respondents (45.77%) having a low level of disaster preparedness, this topic needs more attention from the government and healthcare workers. Several actions are needed to improve community nurses’ disaster preparedness: providing them with routine disaster-related training, encouraging them to serve as volunteers in various disaster conditions, and offering them useful disaster-related information. Keywords: nurses, disaster, disaster management, coastal area, preparedness

- Abstract
Background: Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, and affects people regardless of country, age group, or sex. Using the most recent evidentiary and analytical framework from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD), we produced location-specific, age-specific, and sex-specific estimates of diabetes prevalence and burden from 1990 to 2021, the proportion of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in 2021, the proportion of the type 2 diabetes burden attributable to selected risk factors, and projections of diabetes prevalence through 2050. Methods: Estimates of diabetes prevalence and burden were computed in 204 countries and territories, across 25 age groups, for males and females separately and combined; these estimates comprised lost years of healthy life, measured in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs; defined as the sum of years of life lost [YLLs] and years lived with disability [YLDs]). We used the Cause of Death Ensemble model (CODEm) approach to estimate deaths due to diabetes, incorporating 25 666 location-years of data from vital registration and verbal autopsy reports in separate total (including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes) and type-specific models. Other forms of diabetes, including gestational and monogenic diabetes, were not explicitly modelled. Total and type 1 diabetes prevalence was estimated by use of a Bayesian meta-regression modelling tool, DisMod-MR 2.1, to analyse 1527 location-years of data from the scientific literature, survey microdata, and insurance claims; type 2 diabetes estimates were computed by subtracting type 1 diabetes from total estimates. Mortality and prevalence estimates, along with standard life expectancy and disability weights, were used to calculate YLLs, YLDs, and DALYs. When appropriate, we extrapolated estimates to a hypothetical population with a standardised age structure to allow comparison in populations with different age structures. We used the comparativ

Background: Soybean phytochemicals possess antioxidants that are associated with numerous benefits to human health, therefore, the seed quality and the beneficial content must be considered. This study aimed to assess the relationship between phytochemicals and seed characteristics of Indonesian soybean varieties. Methods: A total of 20 soybean varieties were studied on the seed characteristics (eccentricity index, flatness index and weight). This study was conducted in 2021 at the University of Brawijaya, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The whole soybean seeds were extracted to determine the values of crude protein, oil content, total phenol, total flavonoid and antioxidant activity. Result: Four soybean varieties, namely Detam 1, Detam 2, Dering 1 and Grobogan, contain a moderately high amount of crude protein and oil and are prominent in phytochemicals and antioxidant activity. In addition, the correlation analysis indicated that the level of antioxidant activity is correlated with total phenol, total flavonoid and seed size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Within the town, Abiotic is a built environment that includes buildings, roads, pedestrians, and other elements that interact with biotics, which are living things including plants, animals, and humans. From a landscape ecological perspective, the urban structure consists of (1) a matrix, which is a collection of dominant buildings and homogeneous elements, (2) Patches are grouped as housing, urban forests, parks, lakes, and finally (3) Corridors such as roads, rivers, and pedestrians. The dominance of watertight areas over green open spaces in urban development can lead to increased temperatures and runoff. The condition of the soil structure and the steep slope of the soil can cause landslides, therefore urban development must pay attention to the natural conditions of the area being built. This research was conducted in Kota Baru, Bogor, South Tangerang, and Cikarang (Bekasi Regency). The purpose of this study is to determine the natural environment and the built environment as well as changes in the ecosystem and their consequences for the new town and its surroundings. This research uses quantitative and qualitative approaches. Analysis of land-use change uses spatial and temporal methods, while Nieuwolt's equation is used to measure comfort. This study finds comfortable environmental planning, with green open spaces such as urban forests, city parks, and bodies of water, such as lakes, as a space for interaction between fellow new city residents and people outside the new towns.

This research shows that there are some positive and significant impacts between external motivation i.e. basic salary, job allowance, personal competence, academic job promotion and competence toward teachers' working performance in Jayapura, Papua Indonesia. Although all five independent variables have positive and significant impact on dependent variables. Partially, the impact of the all five independent variables on dependent variable (teacher performance indeed still very poor). Seeing this result, the governments need to give more attention through satisfying compensation which can enhance the teachers' creativity so their performance would be improved as well. If this can be enhanced based on the teachers' need, then they would have broader chance to develop themselves either in education enhancement, skills, or their responsibility in doing their job. Keyword: basic salary, job allowance, personal competence, academic job promotion and competence, teachers' performance.

Research aims: This study aims to examine the role of internal control on the service quality of community health centers in handling the COVID-19 pandemic with transparency and accountability budget management as intervening variables. Design/Methodology/Approach: The population of this study was all community health centers located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province. The cluster sampling technique was used in determining the samples. Eighty-two community health centers participated in this study. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires. Partial Least Square (PLS) was employed to test the hypotheses. Research findings: The results revealed that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, internal control implementation was not associated directly with the service quality of the community health center. Instead, the association was mediated by transparency, not accountability. Additionally, transparency independently was associated with service quality. Theoretical contribution/Originality: This study extends the literature by examining the role of good governance mechanisms and principles in the community health center context by positioning transparency and accountability as intervening. In addition, this research was conducted in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where the service quality of community health centers has a crucial role in dealing with people exposed to COVID-19. Practitioner/Policy implication: The results of this study can be used as input for the relevant regulator to improve the service quality of community health centers through good governance practices. Research limitation/Implication: This research only involved community health centers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province as samples.

The present work compared the effect of different thermal treatments namely heat-moisture treatment (HMT), microwave heating treatment (MHT), heat pressure treatment (HPT) and osmotic pressure treatment (OPT) on physicochemical and pasting properties of breadfruit starch. The results showed that all modified starches exhibited a change in granule morphology, crystalline type and relative crystallinity, pasting and functionality. HMT and HPT-treated starches displayed a loss in physical integrity of the granules. Following MHT treatment, granular structures disappeared to some extent accompanied by the appearance of small holes on the granule surface. HMT, MHT and HPT altered the X-ray diffraction pattern of the starch from B to A+B-type, whereas OPT changed the type to A-type. All modified starches exhibited a decrease in relative crystallinity as compared to the native starch. HMT, HPT and OPT induced an increase in pasting temperature and a reduction in setback. All thermal treatments reduced the peak viscosity and breakdown viscosity of native starch. OPT treatment resulted in the pronounced change of peak, breakdown and setback viscosity. All modification methods did not alter the gel strength but increased water absorption capacity of the starch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
