Abstract

The present review article has attempted a compact formalism description of transport coefficient calculations for relativistic fluid, which is expected in heavy ion collision experiments. Here, we first address the macroscopic description of relativistic fluid dynamics and then its microscopic description based on the kinetic theory framework. We also address different relaxation time approximation-based models in Boltzmann transport equations, which make a sandwich between Macro and Micro frameworks of relativistic fluid dynamics and finally provide different microscopic expressions of transport coefficients like the fluid’s shear viscosity and bulk viscosity. In the numeric part of this review article, we put stress on the two gross components of transport coefficient expressions: relaxation time and thermodynamic phase-space part. Then, we try to tune the relaxation time component to cover earlier theoretical estimations and experimental data-driven estimations for RHIC and LHC matter. By this way of numerical understanding, we provide the final comments on the values of transport coefficients and relaxation time in the context of the (nearly) perfect fluid nature of the RHIC or LHC matter.

2. Isothermal compressibility of hadronic matter formed in relativistic nuclear collisions

Abstract

We present the first estimates of isothermal compressibility (kT) of hadronic matter formed in relativistic nuclear collisions (sNN=7.7 GeV to 2.76 TeV) using experimentally observed quantities. kT is related to the fluctuation in particle multiplicity, temperature, and volume of the system formed in the collisions. Multiplicity fluctuations are obtained from the event-by-event distributions of charged particle multiplicities in narrow centrality bins. The dynamical components of the fluctuations are extracted by removing the contributions to the fluctuations from the number of participating nucleons. From the available experimental data, a constant value of kT has been observed as a function of collision energy. The results are compared with calculations from UrQMD, AMPT, and EPOS event generators, and estimations of kT are made for Pb–Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. A hadron resonance gas (HRG) model has been used to calculate kT as a function of collision energy. Our results show a decrease in kT at low collision energies to sNN∼20 GeV, beyond which the kT values remain almost constant. Abstract

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a multi-system autoimmune disorder predominantly involving multiple small and large joints along with certain extra-articular manifestations. The presence of peripheral neuropathy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis contributes significantly to the functional limitation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Objectives: To study the prevalence, types, and determinants of peripheral neuropathy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Materials and Methods: We studied 74 patients with rheumatoid arthritis of at least 2 year duration for the presence of peripheral neuropathy both clinically and electrophysiologically. The data obtained were entered into a database and continuous variables were analyzed using the Student t test and categorical variables were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: Peripheral neuropathy was detected in 39.19% (29 out of 74 patients) patients on electrophysiologic testing and 82.76% (24 out of 29 patients) of the patients were asymptomatic. There was significant association between the presence of peripheral neuropathy and disease duration and rheumatoid factor positivity by the latex agglutination method. Sensory neuropathy was the most common form detected. Conclusions: Our study shows that subclinical peripheral neuropathy particularly sensory neuropathy which is not related to disease severity is very common in patients with prolonged disease duration.

Abstract

Search and rescue with a team of heterogeneous mobile robots in unknown and large-scale underground environments requires high-precision localization and mapping. This crucial requirement is faced with many challenges in complex and perceptually-degraded subterranean environments, as the onboard perception system is required to operate in off-nominal conditions (poor visibility due to darkness and dust, rugged and muddy terrain, and the presence of self-similar and ambiguous scenes). In a disaster response scenario and in the absence of prior information about the environment, robots must rely on noisy sensor data and perform Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) to build a 3D map of the environment and localize themselves and potential survivors. To that end, this paper reports on a multi-robot SLAM system developed by team CoSTAR in the context of the DARPA Subterranean Challenge. We extend our previous work, LAMP, by incorporating a single-robot front-end interface that is adaptable to different odometry sources and lidar configurations, a scalable multi-robot front-end to support inter- and intra-robot loop closure detection for large scale environments and multi-robot teams, and a robust back-end equipped with an outlier-resilient pose graph optimization based on Graduated Non-Convexity. We provide a detailed ablation study on the multi-robot front-end and back-end, and assess the overall system performance in challenging real-world datasets collected across mines, power plants, and caves in the United States. We also release our multi-robot back-end datasets (and the corresponding ground truth), which can serve as challenging benchmarks for large-scale underground SLAM.

Abstract

Calcification is a feature of benign pancreatic diseases such as chronic calcific pancreatitis (CCP) or benign pancreatic tumors such as solid and papillary epithelial neoplasm of the pancreas and serous cystadenoma. The presence of calcification in a primary malignant pancreatic tumor is uncommon except for neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas. Calcification in adenocarcinoma of the pancreas involving the primary tumor as well as the metastasis resulting thereof is extremely rare in the absence of CCP. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a case of primary adenocarcinoma of the pancreas that presented with calcification of the primary tumor as well as the metastatic liver nodules, accompanied by hypercalcemia.

Abstract

Scientific applications that run on leadership computing facilities often face the challenge of being unable to fit leading science cases onto accelerator devices due to memory constraints (memory-bound applications). In this work, the authors studied one such US Department of Energy mission-critical condensed matter physics application, Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA++), and this paper discusses how device memory-bound challenges were successfully reduced by proposing an effective "all-to-all" communication method -- a ring communication algorithm. This implementation takes advantage of acceleration on GPUs and remote direct memory access (RDMA) for fast data exchange between GPUs. Additionally, the ring algorithm was optimized with sub-ring communicators and multi-threaded support to further reduce communication overhead and expose more concurrency, respectively. The computation and communication were also analyzed by using the Autonomic Performance Environment for Exascale (APEX) profiling tool, and this paper further discusses the performance trade-off for the ring algorithm implementation. The memory analysis on the ring algorithm shows that the allocation size for the authors' most memory-intensive data structure per GPU is now reduced to 1/p of the original size, where p is the number of GPUs in the ring communicator. The communication analysis suggests that the distributed Quantum Monte Carlo execution time grows linearly as sub-ring size increases, and the cost of messages passing through the network interface connector could be a limiting factor.

Abstract

Global polarization of Ξ and Ω hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurements of the Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+} hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay Ξ→Λ+π, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter Λ hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+}, is measured to be ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩=0.47±0.10(stat)±0.23(syst)% for the collision centrality 20%-80%. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive Λ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multiphase transport model. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. The global polarization of Ω, ⟨P_{Ω}⟩=1.11±0.87(stat)±1.97(syst)% was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter Λ in the decay Ω→Λ+K, assuming the polarization transfer factor C_{ΩΛ}=1.

The cross sections and their ratios are sensitive to quark and antiquark parton distribution functions. In particular, at leading order, the W cross section ratio is sensitive to the d¯/ū ratio. These measurements were taken at high Q2∼MW2,MZ2 and can serve as input into global analyses to provide constraints on the sea quark distributions. The results presented here combine three STAR datasets from 2011, 2012, and 2013, accumulating an integrated luminosity of 350 pb-1. We also assess the expected impact that our W+/W- cross section ratios will have on various quark distributions, and find sensitivity to the ū-d¯ and d¯/ū distributions.

Abstract

A reliable odometry source is a prerequisite to enable complex autonomy behaviour in next-generation robots operating in extreme environments. In this work, we present a high-precision lidar odometry system to achieve robust and real-time operation under challenging perceptual conditions. LOCUS (Lidar Odometry for Consistent operation in Uncertain Settings), provides an accurate multi-stage scan matching unit equipped with an health-aware sensor integration module for seamless fusion of additional sensing modalities. We evaluate the performance of the proposed system against state-of-the-art techniques in perceptually challenging environments, and demonstrate top-class localization accuracy along with substantial improvements in robustness to sensor failures. We then demonstrate real-time performance of LOCUS on various types of robotic mobility platforms involved in the autonomous exploration of the Satsop power plant in Elma, WA where the proposed system was a key element of the CoSTAR team's solution that won first place in the Urban Circuit of the DARPA Subterranean Challenge., Comment: Accepted for publication at IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, 2020

Each event is divided into three regions based on the azimuthal angle with respect to the highest-pT jet direction: In the leading jet direction ("Toward"), opposite to the leading jet ("Away"), and perpendicular to the leading jet ("Transverse"). Abstract

We studied the centrality selection effect on cumulants (up to fourth order) and the cumulants' ratios of net-proton multiplicity distributions in $\mathrm{Au}+\mathrm{Au}$ collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{NN}}=7.7$, 19.6, and 200 GeV from the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamic model. The net-proton cumulants were calculated with collision centralities by using charged-particle multiplicity from different pesudorapidity ($\ensuremath{\eta}$) regions. By comparing the results from various collision centralities, we found that the autocorrelation effects are not significant in the results with the collision centralities ``refmult-3'' and ``refmult-2,'' which use midrapidity charged particles but exclude (anti)protons and the analysis region, respectively. Furthermore, due to the contributions of spectator protons, we observed poor centrality resolution when using charged particles at forward $\ensuremath{\eta}$ regions at low energies. This work can serve as a baseline for centrality selection of future fluctuations analysis in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract

This paper describes how we successfully used the HPX programming model to port the DCA++ application on multiple architectures that include POWER9, x86, ARM v8, and NVIDIA GPUs. We describe the lessons we can learn from this experience as well as the benefits of enabling the HPX in the application to improve the CPU threading part of the code, which led to an overall 21% improvement across architectures. We also describe how we used HPX-APEX to raise the level of abstraction to understand performance issues and to identify tasking optimization opportunities in the code, and how these relate to CPU/GPU utilization counters, device memory allocation over time, and CPU kernel level context switches on a given architecture.

Abstract

We studied the effects of centrality fluctuation and deuteron formation on the cumulant ( ) and correlation functions ( ) of protons up to the sixth order in the most central ( < 3 fm) Au+Au collisions at = 3 GeV in a microscopic transport model (JAM). The results are presented as a function of rapidity acceptance within the transverse momentum 0.4 < p T < 2 GeV/ c. We compared the results obtained by the centrality bin width correction (CBWC) using charged reference particle multiplicities with the CBWC using impact parameter bins. It was found that, at low energies, the centrality resolution for determining the collision centrality using charged particle multiplicities is not sufficient to reduce the initial volume fluctuation effect for higher-order cumulant analysis. New methods need to be developed to classify events with high centrality resolution for heavy-ion collisions at low energies. Finally, we observed that the formation of deuterons suppresses the higher-order cumulants and correlation functions of protons and found it to be similar to the efficiency effect. This work can serve as a noncritical baseline for the QCD critical point search in the high baryon density region.

Abstract

We report new STAR measurements of the single-spin asymmetries $A_L$ for $W^+$ and $W^-$ bosons produced in polarized proton--proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 510 GeV as a function of the decay-positron and decay-electron pseudorapidity. The data were obtained in 2013 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 250 pb$^{-1}$. The results are combined with previous results obtained with 86 pb$^{-1}$. A comparison with theoretical expectations based on polarized lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering and prior polarized proton--proton data suggests a difference between the $\bar{u}$ and $\bar{d}$ quark helicity distributions for $0.05 < x < 0.25$. In addition, we report new results for the double-spin asymmetries $A_{LL}$ for $W^\pm$, as well as $A_L$ for $Z/\gamma^*$ production and subsequent decay into electron--positron pairs.

Abstract

In 2018, the STAR collaboration collected data from $$_{44}^{96}{\mathrm{Ru}}+_{44}^{96}{\mathrm{Ru}}$$ and $$_{40}^{96}{\mathrm{Zr}}+_{40}^{96}{\mathrm{Zr}}$$ at $$\sqrt{s_\text {NN}}=200$$ GeV to search for the presence of the chiral magnetic effect in collisions of nuclei. The isobar collision species alternated frequently between $$_{44}^{96}{\mathrm{Ru}}+_{44}^{96}{\mathrm{Ru}}$$ and $$_{40}^{96}{\mathrm{Zr}}+_{40}^{96}{\mathrm{Zr}}$$ . In order to conduct blind analyses of studies related to the chiral magnetic effect in these isobar data, STAR developed a three-step blind analysis procedure. Analysts are initially provided a “reference sample” of data, comprised of a mix of events from the two species, the order of which respects time-dependent changes in run conditions. After tuning analysis codes and performing time-dependent quality assurance on the reference sample, analysts are provided a species-blind sample suitable for calculating efficiencies and corrections for individual $$\approx 30$$ -min data-taking runs. For this sample, species-specific information is disguised, but individual output files contain data from a single isobar species. Only run-by-run corrections and code alteration subsequent to these corrections are allowed at this stage. Following these modifications, the “frozen” code is passed over the fully un-blind data, completing the blind analysis. As a check of the feasibility of the blind analysis procedure, analysts completed a “mock data challenge,” analyzing data from $${\mathrm{Au}}+{\mathrm{Au}}$$ collisions at $$\sqrt{s_\text {NN}}=27$$ GeV, collected in 2018. The $${\mathrm{Au}}+{\mathrm{Au}}$$ data were prepared in the same manner intended for the isobar blind data. The details of the blind analysis procedure and results from the mock data challenge are presented.

The yield of deuterons is found to be well described by the thermal model. The collision energy, centrality, and transverse momentum dependence of the coalescence parameter B2 are discussed. We find that the values of B2 for antideuterons are systematically lower than those for deuterons, indicating that the correlation volume of antibaryons is larger than that of baryons at sNN from 19.6 to 39 GeV. In addition, values of B2 are found to vary with collision energy and show a broad minimum around sNN=20-40 GeV, which might imply a change of the equation of state of the medium in these collisions.

Abstract

The Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG++) is a condensed matter physics application used to study superconductivity properties of materials. It’s main computations consist of calculating hamiltonian matrix which requires sparse matrix-vector multiplications. This paper presents task-based parallelization and optimization strategies of the Hamiltonian algorithm. The algorithm is implemented as a mini-application in C++ and parallelized with OpenMP. The optimization leverages tasking features, such as dependencies or priorities included in the OpenMP standard 4.5. The code refactoring targets performance as much as programmability. The optimized version achieves a speedup of 8.0 × with 8 threads and 20.5 × with 40 threads on a Power9 computing node while reducing the memory consumption to 90 MB with respect to the original code, by adding less than ten OpenMP directives. Abstract

In this letter, measurements of the shared momentum fraction ( z g ) and the groomed jet radius ( R g ), as defined in the SoftDrop algorithm, are reported in p+p collisions at s = 200 GeV collected by the STAR experiment. These substructure observables are differentially measured for jets of varying resolution parameters from R = 0.2 − 0.6 in the transverse momentum range 15 p T , jet 60 GeV/c. These studies show that, in the p T , jet range accessible at s = 200 GeV and with increasing jet resolution parameter and jet transverse momentum, the z g distribution asymptotically converges to the DGLAP splitting kernel for a quark radiating a gluon. The groomed jet radius measurements reflect a momentum-dependent narrowing of the jet structure for jets of a given resolution parameter, i.e., the larger the p T , jet , the narrower the first splitting. For the first time, these fully corrected measurements are compared to Monte Carlo generators with leading order QCD matrix elements and leading log in the parton shower, and to state-of-the-art theoretical calculations at next-to-leading-log accuracy. We observe that PYTHIA 6 with parameters tuned to reproduce RHIC measurements is able to quantitatively describe data, whereas PYTHIA 8 and HERWIG 7, tuned to reproduce LHC data, are unable to provide a simultaneous description of both z g and R g , resulting in opportunities for fine parameter tuning of these models for p+p collisions at RHIC energies. We also find that the theoretical calculations without non-perturbative corrections are able to qualitatively describe the trend in data for jets of large resolution parameters at high p T , jet , but fail at small jet resolution parameters and low jet transverse momenta.

Abstract

Global polarization of $\Lambda$ hyperons has been measured to be of the order of a few tenths of a percent in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV, with no significant difference between $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$. These new results reveal the collision energy dependence of the global polarization together with the results previously observed at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$ = 7.7 -- 62.4 GeV and indicate noticeable vorticity of the medium created in non-central heavy-ion collisions at the highest RHIC collision energy. The signal is in rough quantitative agreement with the theoretical predictions from a hydrodynamic model and from the AMPT (A Multi-Phase Transport) model. The polarization is larger in more peripheral collisions, and depends weakly on the hyperon's transverse momentum and pseudorapidity $\eta^H$ within $|\eta^H

Abstract

We present the first estimates of isothermal compressibility (\kT) of hadronic matter formed in relativistic nuclear collisions ($\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 7.7$ GeV to 2.76~TeV) using experimentally observed quantities. \kT~is related to the fluctuation in particle multiplicity, temperature, and volume of the system formed in the collisions. Multiplicity fluctuations are obtained from the event-by-event distributions of charged particle multiplicities in narrow centrality bins. The dynamical components of the fluctuations are extracted by removing the contributions to the fluctuations from the number of participating nucleons. From the available experimental data, a constant value of \kT~has been observed as a function of collision energy. The results are compared with calculations from UrQMD, AMPT, and EPOS event generators, and estimations of \kT~are made for Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. A hadron resonance gas (HRG) model has been used to calculate \kT~as a function of collision energy. Our results show a decrease in \kT~at low collision energies to \sNN~$\sim$~20~GeV, beyond which the \kT~values remain almost constant., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

With the rapidly changing microprocessor designs and architectural diversity (multi-cores, many-cores, accelerators) for the next generation HPC systems, scientific applications must adapt to the hardware, to exploit the different types of parallelism and resources available in the architecture. To get the benefit of all the in-node hardware threads, it is important to use a single programming model to map and coordinate the available work to the different heterogeneous execution units in the node (e.g., multi-core hardware threads (latency optimized), accelerators (bandwidth optimized), etc.).

Abstract

While mobile computing has seen a trend towards miniaturization and energy savings for a number of years, the available hardware parallelism in mobile devices has at the same time continued to increase. Overall, mobile devices remain resource constrained on power consumption and thermal dissipation. Aggregating the computing capabilities of multiple mobile devices in a distributed and dynamic setting, opens the possibilities for performance improvements, longer aggregate battery life and novel dynamic and distributed applications.In this paper, we propose a Distributed Actor Model for Mobile Platforms (DAMMP), which includes a) a mobile extension to the actor-based Distributed Selector (DS) programming model, along with a new implementation for mobile Android devices, b) an extension to the DS programming model that enables the programmer to react and adapt to dynamic changes in device availability, c) an adaptive mobile-to-server and mobile-to-mobile computation offloading model and its implementation on the Android platform, and d) creation of a dynamic network of heterogeneous Android devices using both Wi-Fi Soft AP and Wi-Fi Direct's peer to peer (P2P) network.We evaluate the DAMMP framework under ideal thermally-controlled usage conditions to show promising scalability and performance, and analyze the communication overhead of both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct when used as the communication layer for DAMMP. We also evaluate the impact of adaptive offload on device-level thermal dissipation in more realistic usage scenarios, thereby demonstrating possibilities for thermal control and power management that can be achieved at the application level with a distributed actor model. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first cross-platform distributed actor/selector runtime system that can span mobile devices and distributed servers.

In this paper, some of Arduino based projects fabricated in laboratory by students are discussed in brief and detailed discussion on two projects showing variation in Arduino's use from simple to the most complicated way has been performed. Based on the discussion and analysis throughout, a comprehensive conclusion is made mentioning Arduinos potentiality to be used in numerous other electromechanical systems.

Abstract

The STAR Collaboration reports the measurement of semi-inclusive distributions of charged-particle jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum hadron trigger, in central and peripheral $\mathrm{Au}+\mathrm{Au}$ collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathrm{NN}}}=200$ GeV. Charged jets are reconstructed with the anti-${k}_{\mathrm{T}}$ algorithm for jet radii $R$ between 0.2 and 0.5 and with low infrared cutoff of track constituents (${p}_{\mathrm{T}}g0.2 \mathrm{GeV}/\mathrm{c}$). A novel mixed-event technique is used to correct the large uncorrelated background present in heavy ion collisions. Corrected recoil jet distributions are reported at midrapidity, for charged-jet transverse momentum ${p}_{\mathrm{T},\mathrm{jet}}^{\mathrm{ch}}l30 \mathrm{GeV}/\mathrm{c}$. Comparison is made to similar measurements for $\mathrm{Pb}+\mathrm{Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV, to calculations for $p+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV based on the pythia Monte Carlo generator and on a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD approach, and to theoretical calculations incorporating jet quenching. The recoil jet yield is suppressed in central relative to peripheral collisions, with the magnitude of the suppression corresponding to medium-induced charged energy transport out of the jet cone of $2.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.5(\mathrm{sys})$ $\mathrm{GeV}/c$, for $10l{p}_{\mathrm{T},\mathrm{jet}}^{\mathrm{ch}}l20$ $\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and $R=0.5$. No medium-induced change in jet shape is observed for $Rl0.5$. The azimuthal distribution of low-${p}_{\mathrm{T},\mathrm{jet}}^{\mathrm{ch}}$ recoil jets may be enhanced at large azimuthal angles to the trigger axis, due to scattering off quasiparticles in the hot QCD medium. Measurement of this distribution gives a 90% statistical confidence upper limit to the yield enhancement at large deflection angles in central $\mathrm{Au}+\mathrm{Au}$ collisions of $50\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}30(\mathrm{sys})%$ of the large-angle yield in $p+p$ collisions predicted by pythia.

Abstract

The demand for portable mainstream programming models supporting scalable, reactive and versatile distributed computing is growing dramatically with the proliferation of manycore/heterogeneous processors on portable devices and cloud computing clusters that can be elastically and dynamically allocated. With such changes, distributed software systems and applications are shifting towards service oriented architectures (SOA) that consist of largely decoupled, dynamically replaceable components and connected via loosely coupled, interactive networks that may exhibit more complex coordination and synchronization patterns.In this paper, we propose the Distributed Selector (DS) model, to address the aforementioned requirements via a simple easy-to-use API. Our implementation of this model runs on distributed JVMs, and features automated bootstrap and global termination. We focus on the Selector Model (a generalization of the actor model) as a foundation for creating distributed programs and introduce a unified runtime system that supports both shared memory and distributed multi-node execution of such programs. The multiple guarded mailboxes, a unique and novel property of Selectors, enable the programmer to easily specify coordination patterns that are strictly more general than those supported by the Actor model.We evaluate the performance of our selector-based distributed implementation using benchmarks from the Savina benchmark suite [13]. Our results show promising scalability performance for various message exchange patterns. We also demonstrate high programming productivity arising from high-level abstraction and location transparency in the HJ Distributed Selector Runtime library (as evidenced by minimal differences between single-node and multi-node implementations of a selector-based application), as well as the contribution of automated system bootstrap and global termination capabilities.

Abstract

Susceptibilities of conserved quantities, such as baryon number, strangeness and electric charge are sensitive to the onset of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase transition and are expected to provide information on the matter produced in heavy-ion collision experiments. A comprehensive study of the second-order diagonal susceptibilities and cross correlations has been made within a thermal model approach of the hadron resonance gas (HRG) model as well as with a hadronic transport model, UrQMD. We perform a detailed analysis of the effect of detector acceptances and choice of particle species in the experimental measurements of the susceptibilities for heavy-ion collisions corresponding to \sNN = 4 GeV to 200 GeV. The transverse momentum cutoff dependence of suitably normalised susceptibilities are proposed as useful observables to probe the properties of the medium at freezeout., 16 pages, 11 figures

Abstract

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a multi-system autoimmune disorder predominantly involving multiple small and large joints along with certain extra-articular manifestations. The presence of peripheral neuropathy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis contributes significantly to the functional limitation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Objectives: To study the prevalence, types, and determinants of peripheral neuropathy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Materials and Methods: We studied 74 patients with rheumatoid arthritis of at least 2 year duration for the presence of peripheral neuropathy both clinically and electrophysiologically. The data obtained were entered into a database and continuous variables were analyzed using the Student t test and categorical variables were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: Peripheral neuropathy was detected in 39.19% (29 out of 74 patients) patients on electrophysiologic testing and 82.76% (24 out of 29 patients) of the patients were asymptomatic. There was significant association between the presence of peripheral neuropathy and disease duration and rheumatoid factor positivity by the latex agglutination method. Sensory neuropathy was the most common form detected. Conclusions: Our study shows that subclinical peripheral neuropathy particularly sensory neuropathy which is not related to disease severity is very common in patients with prolonged disease duration.
