Purpose: Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is a benign, locally invasive odontogenic tumor, which has been historically treated with en bloc resection to prevent recurrence. In pediatric patients en bloc resection is associated with significant morbidity in relation to growth, function, cosmesis, and the associated risks of radical surgery. Methods: This research aims to present an up-to-date series of OM in pediatric patients (0-3 years), to evaluate treatment approaches and recurrence in this population, and provide treatment recommendations through the presentation of a case report in a 15-month-old child and a systematic review of the literature. MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched in August 2021 in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Results: In total 53 patients were identified with OM. Pediatric OM occurs more frequently in males, in the maxilla, presenting most commonly with swelling, with a mean duration of onset of 9 weeks (6-12 weeks, 95% CI). The rates of recurrence in OM were low (5/53, 9%) with no recurrences in patients treated with enucleation with peripheral ostectomy or adjunctive procedures including cryotherapy or Carnoy’s solution, indicating that they can be used successful as first line treatment, reducing patient morbidity. Conclusion: Pediatric odontogenic myxoma occurs most frequently in males, within the maxilla and can be treated successfully with conservative surgical management with enucleation, peripheral ostectomy with the application of Carnoy’s solution or Cryotherapy, reducing patient morbidity. Patients should be followed up clinically and radiographically to monitor for recurrence, which primarily occurs within the first 12 months of treatment.

Background: Stock price prediction is a challenging task. The social, economic, political, and various other factors cause frequent abrupt changes in the stock price. This article proposes a historical data-based ensemble system to predict the closing stock price with higher accuracy and consistency over the existing stock price prediction systems. Objective: The primary objective of this article is to predict the closing price of a stock for the next trading in more accurate and consistent manner over the existing methods employed for the stock price prediction. Method: The proposed system combines various machine learning-based prediction models employing Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression regularization technique to enhance the accuracy of stock price prediction system as compared to any one of the base prediction models. Results: The analysis of results for all the eleven stocks (listed under Information Technology sector on the Bombay Stock Exchange, India) reveals that the proposed system performs best (on all defined metrics of the proposed system) for training datasets and test datasets comprising of all the stocks considered in the proposed system. Conclusion: The proposed ensemble model consistently predicts stock price with a high degree of accuracy over the existing methods used for the prediction.

Background: Medicinal plants have been used for the treatments of various health ailments and the practices as a remedial for thousands of years. Currently, plant-derived compounds are used as alternative ways of treatment for multidrug-resistant pathogens. Objective: In the present study, various parts of six medical plants such as Solanum nigrum, Azadirachta indica, Vitex negundo, Mentha arvensis, Gloriosa superba, and Ocimum sanctum were extracted for obtaining active biological constituents. Methods: Soxhlet method of extraction was used for obtaining crude extracts. Agar disc diffusion and 96-well plate spectroscopic reading were used to detect the extract’s antibacterial and antibiofilm properties. Results: The obtained extracts were tested for antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties at 25 mg/mL concentrations. Maximum antibacterial activity was observed in O. sanctum chloroform extracted (TUCE) against Staphylococcus aureus (24.33±1.52 mm), S. nigrum acetone extract (MAAC) against Salmonella Typhimurium (12.6 ± 1.5 mm) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15.0 ±2.0 mm). Only TUCE exhibited antibacterial activity at least a minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.781 mg/mL. Better antibiofilm activities were also exhibited by petroleum extracts of G. superba (KAPE) and S. nigrum (MAPE) against Escherichia coli, S. Typhimurium, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus. Moreover, S. nigrum acetone extract (MAAC) and O. sanctum chloroform extract (TUCE) showed anti-swarming activity with a reduction of motility 56.3% against P. aeruginosa and 37.2% against S. aureus. MAAC also inhibits LasA activity (63.3% reduction) in P. aeruginosa. Conclusion: Extracts of TUCE, MAAC, MAPE, and KAPE exhibited antibacterial and antibiofilm properties against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. GC-MS identified that chemical constituents are responsible for being biologically active.

The application of medicinal plants for combating various human ailments, as a food fortificant and additive have been adapted from ancient routine custom. Currently, developing countries use plants as a major source of primary health care. Besides, the emerging drug resistant pathogenic microbes encourage the utilization of medicinal plants as preeminent alternative sources of new bioactive substances. Extensive research findings have been reported in the last three decades. But methods to investigate the phytoconstituent and their biological effects are limited. This review contains brief explanations about the selection of medicinal plants, procedure for obtaining the crude as well as essential oil extracts, phytochemical screening, and in-vitro evaluation of antimicrobial activity. Furthermore, the antimicrobial activity of medicinal plant extracts reported from their respective solvent fractionated and non-fractionated in-vitro analysis has also been described in the present paper. The bioactive substances from medicinal plant along with chemical structure and biological effects are highlighted in the content.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most diagnosed malignancy in the Western world. Routine staging of CRC often identifies incidental lesions on cross-sectional imaging. Appropriate treatment is dependent on a correct histological diagnosis. Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a rarer and often devastating diagnosis for which the treatment pathway differs significantly to CRC. We report two rare cases: the first recorded case of PDAC with synchronous rectal metastasis and a case of an acute presentation with large bowel obstruction from synchronous colonic metastasis. Both cases presented a significant diagnostic challenge. The management of both cases would have been altered had the histological diagnosis been known prior to surgery. Clinicians treating CRC should be wary of incidental lesions on staging investigations as they rarely represent an occult extra-intestinal primary malignancy. Immunohistochemistry plays an important role in ascertaining the origin of gastrointestinal malignancy.

Since its origin in the Wuhan province of China in December 2019, Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) has spread to most parts of the world and has infected millions of people. However, the significant variability in the mortality rate across the world indicates some underlying factors, especially the immunity factors that may have a potential role in this variability. One such factor that is being discussed and tested is the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine. The available evidence suggests that BCG vaccination provides broad protection against respiratory infections as well as other infections. Therefore, BCG may prove to be a barrier for COVID-19 infection and may offer a ray of hope. In this review, we contrasted BCG vaccination program with COVID-19 mortality and analyzed trained immunity and cross protection against unrelated pathogens due to BCG vaccination. On analyzing the available data, we observed that countries without universal BCG vaccination policy are severely affected, while countries having universal BCG policies are less affected. Based on these data, we propose that the SARS-CoV-2 related qualified immunity, cross protection against unrelated pathogens and COVID-19 impact variations could be partly explained by the different national policies regarding BCG childhood vaccination. The combination of reduced morbidity and mortality may make BCG vaccination a potential new tool in the fight against COVID-19.

Service-level agreement (SLA) is a contract between the cloud service provider and consumer which includes terms and conditions of service parameters. The cloud service provider has to commit to service-level agreements, which ensures a specific quality of performance. A certain level of penalty is set if the provider performs SLA violations. Managing and applying penalties has become a critical issue for cloud computing. It is found to be of paramount importance that the violations are predicted well in advance so that the necessary measures can be taken. In this research work, various proactive SLA prediction models were designed, utilising the power of machine learning. We have used real-world data sets to highlight the accurate models for violation prediction in a cloud environment. Seeing violation prediction as a classification problem where incoming requests need to be predicted for the violation, we have used Bayesian regularised artificial neural network (BRANN) on different samples of real-world data set. Both the models show remarkable performance for predicting SLA violation. BRANN shows a significantly good average accuracy of 97.6%.

Cloud Services are highly scalable and dynamic. Providing high availability and low latency with high data rate is a big challenging task for service providers. Any deviation in the Service Level Agreement (SLA) between service providers and customers is service level Violation (SLV). In the case of SLV, the cloud service provider has to pay the penalty to the customers in terms of money or additional services as per the SLA. Hence SLA prediction is of paramount importance for both customers and service providers. In this paper, we have used a Scaled conjugate gradient neural network to make predictions on SLA Violations. We have used real-world data which seems to be relevant to the real-world scenarios. Oversampling technique is used to overcome the problem of the biased dataset. Results obtained from the experiments have undergone 3-fold validation. Classification accuracy of SCG algorithm is found to be 96.76% and 93.23% for two datasets which may be considered as an efficient prediction model.

Of late due to the shift in labor market and education policy there has been a growing concern and pressure on educational institutions to relook at their employability skills offered as part of the curriculum in order to produce employable graduates. It has been argued that technical (academic skills) are vital to attract candidates, however, work place behavioral competencies (soft skills) are equally important. This exploratory research explores the employability and hiring trends particularly focusing on certain work and behavioral related competencies that are vital in Engineering graduates that makes them employable. Data is collected from 41 Engineering professionals based in UAE using an anonymously completed survey and the findings has helped researchers chalk out recommendations to educational institutions pertaining to the essential workplace competencies that are critical for Engineering graduates’ employability.

Background: Globally, people utilize plants as the main source of remedy to heal various ailments. Medicinal plants have been utilized to treat ailments since the invention of modern scientific systems of medicine. The common remedy of infectious diseases mainly depends on the inhibition capacity of compounds or killing potential. The issue may give a clue for the development of a novel antimicrobial agent. Methods: Currently, microorganisms which are resistant towards antibiotics are probably a matter of serious concern for the overall well-being of health. At the moment, new therapeutic targets aside from the microorganism wall-based activities are in progress. For instance, the autoinducer molecules produced by the quorum sensing system are used to control antibiotic resistance and biofilm formation. Results: This therapeutic target is well-studied worldwide, however, the scientific data are not updated and only current studies started to gain insight into its perspective as a target to struggle against infectious diseases. Microbial resistance against antimicrobial compounds is a topic of serious concern in recent time. Conclusion: Hence, this paper aims to confer a current overview of the novel compounds, quorum sensing, quorum quenching, biofilm formation in the development of antibiotic resistance and an update on their importance as a potential target for natural substances.

Cloud computing is being paid a lot of consideration both in scholastics and ventures, from exploring researchers to clients. Cloud computing is a membership-based administration which gives arranged storage and PC assets. With the beginning of this pay-per-use innovation, the application facilitating, capacity, conveyance and cost of computing are diminished considerably. With all the advantages of cloud computing there are certain flaws like fault tolerance associated with them. There are many models of fault tolerance given by different researchers which have their own benefits and limitations. In this paper, we aim to study and compare various scheduling algorithms in cloud computing with respect to fault tolerance. The pros and cons of these algorithms are also briefly discussed for comparison. There are a lot of findings going on in the area of fault tolerance in cloud computing and this study will definitely help the researchers to build an efficient fault tolerance framework. This analysis can also be employed for evaluating appropriate framework.

Background: Bacterial keratitis is a potentially sight-threatening condition. This study is performed to identify the common causative organisms for bacterial keratitis in Waikato region and the antibiotic sensitivities to these organisms. Design: Retrospective, observational, case series. Participants: The microbiology records of all patients with bacterial keratitis who presented to the Ophthalmology department, Waikato Hospital, New Zealand between January 2003 and December 2007. Methods: The corneal scrape results were reviewed. Antibiotic sensitivity for the organism was tested following National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) method. Main Outcome Measures: In vitro laboratory susceptibility testing of ocular isolates to various antibiotics. Results: A total of 265 scrapes were performed. Gram stain was positive in 35 (13.2%) eyes. Positive culture was seen in 174 (65.6%) scrapes; 78.2% were Gram-positive and 20.2% were Gram-negative organisms. Most common Gram-positive organisms were coagulase-negative Staphylococci (40.8%) and Staphylococcus aureus (11.5%). Most common Gram-negative organisms were Moraxalla species (8.0%) and Pseudomonas aeroginosa (3.4%). Of the bacterial organisms 99% were sensitive to ciprofloxacin. All Gram-negative organisms and 95.5% Gram-positive organisms were sensitive to tobramycin; 96.6% Gram-positive organisms and 98.3% Gram-negative organisms were sensitive to cefuroxime. Conclusions: Our results are comparable to other regions in New Zealand but the incidence of coagulase-negative Staphylococcus is much higher in this region compared with other New Zealand studies. It seems appropriate to start patients with corneal ulcers initially on fluoroquinolone monotherapy while awaiting culture results.

Networked tiny sensors technologies have been recognized among the most significant technologies for the 21st century. Because of hardware and network technology advancements we have low-cost, low-power multifunctional miniature sensor devices. These sensor nodes team up between themselves to create a sensing network. A sensor network can be used to access information anytime, anywhere. Data can be collected, processed, analyzed and disseminated. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have many applications but typically take in some kind of supervisory, monitoring and tracking. Specific applications for WSNs include infrastructure security, environmental monitoring, object tracking, nuclear reactor control, green house monitoring, industrial monitoring, fire detection, traffic monitoring, and infrastructure security. There are many issues in WSN: power management, security, privacy, routing, localization etc. In view of reducing energy consumption of sensor nodes this paper presents the force based algorithm to auto deploy a sensor network to reduce the power consumed by the sensor nodes to improve their lifetime.

Gemcitabine, an effective agent in treatment of cancer of pancreas, has undergone failures in many instances after multiple cycles of therapy due to emergence of drug resistance. Combination of dietary compounds with clinically validated drugs has emerged as an effective therapeutic approach to treat pancreatic tumors, refractory to gemcitabine therapy. In order to optimize a possible synergistic combination of Gemcitabine (GCB) with dietary molecules, Betuilnic acid (BA) and Thymoquinone (TQ), stand-alone IC50 dose of GCB, BA and TQ was calculated for pancreatic cancer cell lines. Fixed IC50 dose ratio of the dietary molecules in combination with reduced IC50 dose of GCB was tested on GCB resistant PANC-1 and sensitive MIA PaCa-2 cells for synergism, additive response and antagonism, using calcusyn. Combination index (CI) revealed that pre-treatment of BA and TQ along with GCB synergistically inhibited the cancer cell proliferation in in-vitro experiments. Pyruvate kinase (PK) M2 isoform, a promising target involved in cancer cell metabolism, showed down-regulation in presence of TQ or BA in combination with GCB. GCB with BA acted preferentially on tumor mitochondria and triggered mitochondrial permeability transition. Pre-exposure of the cell lines, MIA PaCa-2 and PANC-1, to TQ in combination with GCB induced apoptosis. Thus, the effectiveness of BA or TQ in combination with GCB to inhibit cell proliferation, induce apoptosis and down-regulate the expression of PKM2, reflects promise in pancreatic cancer treatment.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is most common lethal malignancy worldwide. About 80% of liver cancer cases are attributed to the combined effects of Hepatitis B and C virus infections. The factors affecting development of HCC include cirrhosis and histological markers of increased liver cell proliferation, environmental, dietary and lifestyle of the person. Treatment options depend on the presence or absence of cirrhosis, number and size of tumors, and degree of hepatic deterioration. The primary option for some of the patients include hepatic resectioning, locoregional ablation, liver transplantation, ultrasound-guided tumor injection with absolute ethanol or tumor thermoablation with radiofrequency. Most common drugs like sorafenib, doxorubicin and daunorubicin have been used widely for treatment of HCC. A number of novel formulations like polymeric nanoparticles, nanocapsules, liposomes, nanoemulsions, microsphere, hydrogels, dendrimers, polymeric micelles has been reported for the treatment of HCC. The advantages of novel drug delivery systems (NDDS) is based on the ability to modify the bio-distribution, pharmacokinetics and pharmacological activity, prolonged efficacy and duration of drug activity, improved patient compliance, drug targeting to the site of action, enhancement of solubility, bioavailability, protection from toxicity, enhancement of stability. The carriers for liver specific drug delivery include liver-specific asialoglycoprotein receptor on mammalian hepatocytes. The natural ligand i.e. asialofeutin, or synthetic ligands with galactosylated or lactosylated polymers have been developed for significant targeting to the liver.

This study is performed to determine the epidemiology and incidence of ocular trauma in Waikato, New Zealand.The data was analysed on age, sex, ethnicity and type of trauma. Visual acuity (VA) at presentation and discharge was recorded. Details of slit lamp examination were noted.There were a total of 821 injuries. Men had higher rate of ocular trauma than women (74% vs 26%, p0.001). Mean age was 31 years for males and 37 years for females respectively. Highest number of ocular trauma was seen in age group 15-20 (11.5%). There were 253 open globe injuries (OGI) and 568 closed globe injuries (CGI) (p0.001). The most frequent causes of eye injuries in men were related to outdoor activities (25.9%) and work (20.7%). In women, outdoor activity was also the highest cause (10%). The annual rate of ocular trauma was 20.5 per 100,000 populations. Final VA of greater than and equal to 6/12 was found in 590 eyes, 6/12-6/60 in 143 eyes and greater than and equal to 6/60 in 88 eyes. Primary or secondary vitreoretinal procedures were performed in 54 eyes. There were three cases (0.3%) of endophthalmitis (inflammation of the internal coats of the eye).This study provides insight into epidemiology of ocular trauma in Waikato, New Zealand.

To examine the course of pregnancy, labour, and the neonatal period in a group of women who have become pregnant following gastric bypass surgery for severe obesity.Women who had experienced pregnancy following gastric bypass surgery were identified by an initial questionnaire. A second questionnaire was sent to those identified by the first questionnaire, who were willing to provide details concerning such pregnancies.Seventeen women experienced a total of 24 pregnancies and 25 live births. Five had experienced difficulties with conception or pregnancy prior to surgery. The average maternal weight gain was 6.13 kg. No major problems with fetal growth were observed. Babies were delivered at a mean gestational age of 37.5 weeks and with a mean birth weight of 3038 g. Six women reported a complication during pregnancy (25%) and five a complication in labour (20%). Two babies born to the same mother had congenital abnormalities attributable to a rare genetic disorder.The course of pregnancy and labour appears normalised for severely obese women following gastric bypass surgery. The weight loss and marked reduction in food intake following gastric bypass surgery does not lead to growth or development problems for offspring. Careful monitoring of expectant mothers who have undergone gastric bypass surgery is nevertheless to be recommended.

Aim To describe a case of phosphaturic mesenchymal tumour and advances in the immunohistochemical diagnosis. Case A 36-year-old male presented with progressive fatigue, localised right back pain with movement and bilateral foot pain 7 months following trivial injury over the 7 rib anteriorly while playing rugby. A trial of prednisone was ineffective. Results Biochemistry showed severe hypophosphataemia, urinary phosphate loss, raised alkaline phosphatase, mildly reduced serum calcium and magnesium and normal electrolytes. Sestamibi scan with CT scanning highlighted an area of increased uptake in the right C7 transverse process. Serum analysis showed fibroblast growth factor-23 secreting hormone. Histology showed bland cells with densely granular and eosinophilic background. No osteoclast-like giant cells, calcified matrix, haemorrhage or necrosis was identified. Immunohistochemistry showed tumour cells positive for CD56 and negative for synaptophysin, chromagranin, TTF-1, CD31 and Ki -67. Slides referred to Dr Anthony Gill, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, showed strong positivity to FGF23 and diffuse strong positivity to somatostatin receptor 2A. Discussion Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumour is a rare phosphate wasting tumour associated with oncogenic osteomalacia. They have been erroneously diagnosed as other mesenchymal tumours including hemangiopericytoma and osteosarcoma. Expression of FGF23 and SSTR2A are diagnostic.
