Unregulated harvesting and habitat degradation of marine gastropods are major anthropogenic activities done by the local people in Barangay Day-asan, Surigao City, Philippines. This study was undertaken to determine the diversity of marine gastropods found in the intertidal of Dapya Island. Collection of specimens was done through hand picking and beach-combing methods in the three established study stations. Data revealed a total of 184 individuals belonging to 37 species in 5 orders, 15 families and 25 genera. The order Neogastropoda obtained the highest number of species with 15 species, followed by order Mesogastropoda with 10 species, order Archaeogastropoda with 7 species, order Neritopsina with 4 species and order Caenogastropoda with one species. Among the 37 species, Nerita undata was the most abundant. Shannon-Weiner diversity index revealed that station 2 (H=1.193) obtained the highest species diversity, followed by station 3 (H= 1.103) and station 1 (H=1.063). The Bray-Curtis analysis of species composition showed two different clusters of habitat. Cluster 1 is composed of two related habitats joined by Stations 1 and 2 with Si= 54.26% and cluster 2 composed of Stations 3 and 1 with Si= 40.65%. Furthermore, among the 37 species, six of which were concordant in all study stations viz., Angaria delphinus, Astralium calcar, Conus miles, Lambis lambis, Euprotomus bulla and Canarium labiatum. The results of the study showed a low diversity of intertidal gastropods in Barangay Day-asan. The area is known to be the most gleaned by locals and it is been already disturbed due to over-harvesting of gastropod species.

Genus Anceps Kolesnikov, 1939 † Type species. Trochus anceps Eichwald, 1850, OD (Kolesnikov 1939: 701), established as section within Calliostoma Swainson, 1840. Middle-late Miocene (Bessarabian), Eastern Paratethys (Russia). Diagnosis. Anceps comprises thin-shelled, nacreous, depressed conical to moderately high conical shells with carinate, partly flaring and/or tuberculate, basal angulation. Spiral sculpture often reduced; densely spaced growth lines may form prominent axial sculpture. Umbilicus moderately wide, usually strongly narrowed by inner lip or completely sealed. Remarks. Anceps is available according to Article 10.4 of the ICZN (A uninominal name proposed for a genusgroup division of a genus, even if proposed for a secondary (or further) subdivision, is deemed to be a subgeneric name even if the division is denoted by a term such as “section” or “division ”). The species placed in this genus by Sladkovskaya (2017) (as Kolesnikoviella) deviate strongly from Gibbula s.s. in the thin shells, carinate basal angulation and strongly narrowed umbilicus. Therefore, Anceps is treated as distinct genus, endemic to the Sarmatian Paratethys, with origin in the Eastern Paratethys. In the Central Paratethys, it is represented only by Anceps sopronensis (Papp, 1954). = Kolesnikoviella Sladkovskaya, 2017 † Type species: Trochus blainvillei d’Orbigny, 1844, OD (Sladkovskaya 2017: 1592), as subgenus of Gibbula Risso, 1826. Middle Miocene (Sarmatian, Volhynian, Bessarabian), Central and Eastern Paratethys. Remarks. Sladkovskaya (2017) placed Trochus anceps Eichwald, 1850 in her new subgenus Kolesnikoviella and discussed its phylogenetic relations with other members of this genus. This species is type species of Anceps Kolesnikov, 1939 and therefore, Kolesnikoviella Sladkovskaya, 2017 is a subjective junior synonym of Anceps Kolesnikov, 1939. Despite the similar spelling, Kolesnikoviella is not a junior homonym of Kolesnikovella Bykova in Bykova et al., 1958 (Foraminifera). = Sarmates Kolesnikov, 1939 † Type species. Sarmates is an available name according to Article 10.4. of the ICZN (A uninominal name proposed for a genus-group division of a genus, even if proposed for a secondary (or further) subdivision, is deemed to be a subgeneric name even if the division is denoted by a term such as “section” or “division ”). The type species is reminiscent of Anceps in its thin and nacreous shell and the tendency to form a basal carina. As first reviser, I give priority to Anceps Kolesnikov, 1939. = Microamberleya Anistratenko & Anistratenko, 2007 † nomen nudum Remarks. Anistratenko & Anistratenko (2007) placed Trochus blainvillei d’Orbigny, 1844 and Trochus subblainvillei Sinzow, 1897 in the genus Microamberleya Anistratenko, 2000. This genus, however, has never been formally described and is a nomen nudum, because “ Anistratenko, 2000 ” refers to an unpublished PhD-thesis (see also Sladkovskaya 2017). Unfortunately, the description and discussion in Anistratenko & Anistratenko (2007) fail to make the name available. = Kolesnikowiella Iljina, 1998 † nomen nudum Remarks. Kolesnikowiella is used as subgenus of Gibbula by Iljina (1998: 24) for 8 species including Trochus blainvillei d’Orbigny, 1844 and Trochus subblainvillei Sinzow, 1897. Iljina (1998) did not designate a type species and did not provide any description or diagnosis. Genus Rollandiana Kolesnikov, 1939 † Type species. Trochus rollandianus d’Orbigny, 1844, OD (Kolesnikov 1939: 701), established as section within Gibbula Risso, 1826. Middle-late Miocene (Bessarabian), Eastern Paratethys (Russia). Diagnosis. Small to medium sized, depressed spherical shells with low to moderately high spire, convex whorls with faint mid-whorl angulation of last whorl. Umbilicus moderately wide and deep. Callous inner lip persisting to base of penultimate whorl. Weak or prominent spiral sculpture and prominent sigmoidal growth lines. Remarks. Rollandiana is available according to Article 10.4 of the ICZN (A uninominal name proposed or a genus-group division of a genus, even if proposed for a secondary (or further) subdivision, is deemed to be a subgeneric name even if the division is denoted by a term such as “section” or “division”). The depressed shells are morphologically far from Gibbula s.s. but are somewhat reminiscent of Steromphala concerning the umbilical features and the morphology of the inner lip. Evolutionary history, diversity and (paleo)geographic distribution of Cainozoic to present-day species of the Trochidae subfamilies Cantharidinae and Trochinae are discussed based on an extensive literature survey. In total, 393 species-level taxa, assigned to 24 genera and subgenera, are listed from the NE Atlantic, the E Atlantic, the North Sea, the (Proto)-Mediterranean Sea, the Central Paratethys Sea and the Eastern Paratethys Sea. Short diagnosis and subjective and objective junior synonyms for genus-level taxa are given. Stratigraphic ranges and geographic distribution are listed for species-level taxa. The European fossil record suggests a first major radiation during the middle Eocene and a second diversity pulse during the Miocene, when most extant genera were already present. At the species level, however, the present-day fauna is geologically very young, originating during the Pleistocene and Holocene. Overall, no convincing correlation of evolution and diversity of European Cantharidinae and Trochinae with major geodynamic events (e.g. Tethys Closure) can be observed. An exception is the somewhat overlooked spectacular radiation of Cantharidinae following the hydrological isolation of the Paratethys Sea during the late Miocene. The critical evaluation of the fossil record provides anchor points to test molecular phylogenies. A major discrepancy between both approaches appears only for Jujubinus, which suggests that Paleocene species have to be excluded from the genus. Gibbuliculus nov. gen. is introduced as new genus for a group of Oligocene to Pleistocene species, placed so far in “Colliculus” sensu auctores non Monterosato, 1888. Anceps siminescui nov. nom, Gibbuliculus saccoi nov. nom, Gibbula tavanii nov. nom., Gibbula s.l. lovellreevei nov. nom. and Gibbula s.l. steiningeri nov. nom. are proposed as new names for the preoccupied Trochus semistriatus Siminescu & Barbu, 1940, Gibbula protumida Sacco, 1896, Gibbula minima Tavani, 1939, Trochus (Gibbula) reevei Harmer, 1923 and Trochus amedei bicincta Schaffer, 1912.

Feneoniana is available according to Article 10.4 of the ICZN, which states: “ A uninominal name proposed for a genus-group division of a genus, even if proposed for a secondary (or further) subdivision, is deemed to be a subgeneric name even if the division is denoted by a term such as “section” or “division””. Kolesnikov (1939) unites a morphologically very heterogenous group of species in Feneoniana. The type species, Trochus feneonianus d’Orbigny, 1844, is close to Sarmatigibbula, aside from the more rounded shoulder and the open umbilicus. Sladkovskaya (2017) treats Trochus feneonianus as Gibbula s.s. As it remains unclear if Feneoniana is really a synonym of S armatigibbula, Trochus feneonianus is listed herein as Gibbula s.l. Genus Lesperonia Tournouër, 1874 † Type species. Cerithium trochoides Fuchs, 1870, by monotypy, Oligocene, Western Tethys (Italy). Diagnosis. High conical shell with high last whorl. Teleoconch whorls straight-sided, angulated in abapical quarter. Aperture elongate with broad, flaring peristome. Sculpture comprising few prominent spiral cords and numerous spiral striae. No umbilicus. Remarks. This monospecific genus is reminiscent of the extant Cantharidinae Phasianotrochus P. Fischer, 1885. Consequently, Lesperonia was placed in Cantharidinae by Lozouet (2013, 2014; see discussion on systematic position in Lozouet 2014: 16).
