Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number of publications in the field of periodontology and implantology in Turkey. Material and Methods: A sensitive search strategy was developed to identify relevant articles, focusing on the periodontology and implantology research fields published two years before and after the declaration of the pandemic (March 2020). The search was performed through Web of Science, Medline, SCOPUS and CENTRAL databases. A three-stage screening (titles, abstract, full-text) was carried out in duplicate and independently by two reviewers. Results: A total of 382 studies were identified before the pandemic and 307 studies during the pandemic. While there was a downward trend in the number of observational studies (185 vs 168), the number of clinical trials (CCT/RCT) slightly increased compared to the pre-pandemic period (72 vs 74). Conclusion: Limited to the selected period of time (two years) and field, publication rate on periodontology and implantology in Turkey was decreased during the pandemic. Although the present research highlights current trends, large-scale investigations are needed to probe consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on research activities in the long-run.

Objectives: Due to limited data in the literature on the prognostic value of inflammatory markers neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and derived NLR (dNLR) in metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC), we aimed to determine the role of this markers in the prognosis of mCSPC. Methods: In this study, inflammatory marker values in mCSPC (NLR0, PLR0, dNLR0) and mCRPC (NLR1, PLR1, dNLR1) were calculated. Characteristics of the patients and the effects of inflammatory markers on overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were evaluated using appropriate statistical methods. Results: The median age of 124 patients was 68.71 years. No significant difference was found OS in mCSPC NLR0, dNLR0 and PLR0 groups (p>0,05). While the median CSS was statistically longer in the NLR0, dNLR0 and PLR0 low groups (Median:45.9 vs 35.7 months for NLR0, 47.0 vs 34.6 months for dNLR and 46.2 vs 33.9 months, p=0.037, p=0.036, p=0.041 respectively). There was no significant difference in terms of OS and CSS in NLR1 and dNLR1 groups (p>0.05). The patients with low PLR1 showed statistical significantly better OS and CSS (p=0.027 for OS and p=0.006 for CSS). Conclusion: Although inflammatory markers have prognostic value in many cancers, mCSPC which have heterogeneous and complex structures, are still controversial, and more studies are needed for their routine use. Objectives: The main treatment for metastatic prostate cancer is androgen deprivation therapy. The relationship between ADT and SARSCoV-2 virus was intensively investigated since the COVID 19 pandemic began. To perform a meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) on COVID-19 in patients with prostate cancer. Methods: On January 11th, a comprehensive literature search was conducted following PRISMA guidelines in the PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases, and an update was conducted on January 24 for this search. Results: Eight papers were included for systematic review. Five studies were suitable for meta-analysis. The incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among patients who were receiving ADT was 3.0%. ADT was not associated with a lower incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection (95% CI: 0.56-1.58, RR = 0.94, p=.91; I2 = 60%, p=.03). Mortality was around 28% and there was no significant relationship between ADT use and mortality (95% CI: 0.61-1.69, RR = 1.01, p=.96). Conclusion: It is difficult to say that there is a relationship between use of ADT and the risk of death due to COVID-19 infection. But there is also no evidence to suggest that ADT causes the risk of death from COVID-19. Keywords: Androgen deprivation therapy, prostate cancer, SARS-CoV-2
