1. Diversity of spiders (Arachnida: Araneae) of an urban forest fragment in the Atlantic rainforest (São Paulo, Brazil).

Abstract

The abundance of spiders in most terrestrial ecosystems makes them good indicators of habitat changes because they are common animals in most terrestrial ecosystems. Due to the importance of knowing the diversity of spiders for conservation efforts and the lack of studies on the spider fauna in urban parks, this work aimed to collect and identify the diversity of spiders present in an isolated fragment of native Atlantic Rainforest vegetation, in an urban area on Diadema, São Paulo. We used pitfall traps over 28 days and active nocturnal search for two hours per night over 6 nights as collection methods. We found a total of 328 individuals, of which 118 adult spiders were assigned to 13 families and 37 morphospecies. Species of families Nemesiidae, Theraphosidae and Deinopidae were found, which are not expected in urban areas. The highest values of abundance were found for the Theridiidae family, with 59 individuals and Araneidae with 28, totaling 73.7% of the total sampled, with Nephilingis cruentata and Parasteatoda tepidariorum being the most abundant morphospecies, with 15 and 11 adult individuals collected, respectively. The richness found in this work was 37 morphospecies and according to the diversity estimators Chao 1 and 2 and Jacknife 1 and 2, it was estimated that the richness of the Diadema Botanical Garden is between 44 and 54 species, a result close to the number of species collected, which indicates that the sampling effort of this work was satisfactory. This work is one of the few inventories of spider fauna in urban fragments of the Atlantic Rainforest and the first study in the Diadema city, one of the cities with the highest population density in the country. It is important to empathize that the results showed a rich and diverse araneofauna when compared with other similar studies, even in an extremely isolated fragment in one of the cities with the highest population density in the state. 2. Contributions to the spider (Araneae) fauna of Türkiye.

Abstract

This paper presents the results of a preliminary survey of the spiders of Marmara region and provides new data on the spider fauna of Türkiye. During the study, spider samples were collected by hand aspirator and pitfall traps. As a result, Heliophanus apiatus Simon, 1868 (Salticidae) is recorded for the first time from Türkiye. Also, occurrence of Amaurobius pallidus L. Koch, 1868 (Amaurobiidae) is confirmed with this study. Additionally, the record of H. apiatus from Marmara region represents the easternmost point of its distribution range. Abstract

The rare known linyphiid spider Walckenaeria incisa (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1871) is recorded for the first time in Türkiye. Species were collected using pitfall traps in a red pine forest near Spil Mountain. With this record, the number species belonging to Walckenaeria in Türkiye has increased to 12. 4. Spider Diversity in the Fragmented Forest-Steppe Landscape of Northeastern Ukraine: Temporal Changes under the Impact of Human Activity.

Semi-natural forests and dry grasslands are highly fragmented and influenced by human activity. Despite the small area, they serve as the refuge for habitat-specific species and enhance agrolandscape biodiversity. We studied spiders in Velykoburlutskyi Steppe Regional Landscape Park (northeastern Ukraine) for 10 years and found 224 species of 26 families; of these, 27 are rare and require protection. The araneofauna of small forests in gullies is poorer than that of the large oakeries and hosts fewer sylvatic species; the dry grassland fauna is rich, has typical steppe traits, and varies depending on topography and grazing history. The ungrazed gully hosted 125 spider species. The richest assemblages (97 species) were at the bottom, and they were similar to those of meadows and forest edges. The most typical steppe assemblages were formed on the ungrazed slope (77 species). The human-induced disturbance had a negative effect on spiders: we found only 63 species at the grazed bottom and 62 on the slope. After abrupt grazing cessation, four spider species appeared and occurred constantly at the bottom, while no species left this habitat. Grazing on the slopes declined gradually, and spider assemblages did not change significantly after the final cessation; moreover, they enriched on the abandoned slope (75 species). The presence of rare species and a variety of spider assemblages confirm the conservation value of the study site and the need to maintain its mosaic pattern. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

O Brasil é um dos países com a maior diversidade de aranhas do mundo. No entanto, as estimativas em relação a real diversidade desses animais são bastante incipientes no Nordeste, principalmente no Maranhão. Foram coletados um total de 543 espécimes de aranhas de solo em duas fitofisionomias de Cerrado (Mata de Galeria e Cerrado sensu stricto) localizadas na APA Municipal do Inhamun, Caxias, Maranhão. Foram identificadas 23 famílias, 37 gêneros e 43 espécies (infraordem Araneomorphae), sendo que a maioria das espécies encontradas são registradas pela primeira vez para o estado do Maranhão. As famílias Corinnidae e Oonopidae apresentaram maior riqueza de espécies, enquanto a família Zodariidae a maior abundância de indivíduos. As espécies mais abundantes neste estudo foram Leprolochus birabeni e Corinna sp.1.

7. To the knowledge of the spider fauna (Aranei) of the Republic of Mordovia (Russia)

Abstract

Here we present faunistic, partly ecological and biogeographic data on Aranei, collected in 11 districts of the Republic of Mordovia (Russia), typical area of the center of the East European Plain. The araneofauna of this region is poorly studied and our new data help to correct biogeorgaphic limits of many species. Spiders were collected by soil traps in April–July 2008 and 2012. In total, 131 species from 18 families are listed, 57 of them are recorded for the Republic of Mordovia for the first time (marked by asterisks in the check-list). The following records are the most interesting for biogeography and bionomics in different parts of ranges: Agyneta fuscipalpa (C.L. Koch, 1836) (rare, but widespread species, which is known from semiarid and semihumid areas of the Palaearctic); Alopecosa taeniopus (Kulczyński, 1895) (the range of this species is limited by steppe zone of the Palaearctic from the Balkans to West China; it inhabits many biotopes from salt marshes to outlier and ravine forests in the forest-steppe and in the steppe zones of the East European Plain); Cheiracanthium campestre Lohmander, 1944 (a rare European species, which was registered within the East European Plain only in Rostov Region), Pardosa alacris (C.L. Koch, 1833) (widespread in Europe, confined to the subboreal zone of the East European Plain), Pardosa maisa Hippa et Mannila, 1982 (habitats of the Mordovian populations of this species are unusual; it occurs in Europe in waterlogged habitats: swamps, floodplain wet meadows, salt marshes, reed shores of lakes, very rarely and sporadically in moderately dry meadows or grasslands; this species is also confined to the shores of lakes in Western Siberia; specimens collected in Mordovia and in the Privolzhsky Forest-Steppe Reserve in Penza Region were found in dry grassy habitats), Peponocranium praeceps Miller, 1943 (a rare European species, occurring in forests, meadows and swamps in Europe, but exclusively in xerophytic meadows in teppes of the Cis-Ural region), Trichoncus hackmani Millidge, 1955. In total 228 species of spiders are known now in Mordovia. The basis of the araneofauna of Mordovia consists of spiders typical for the subboreal zone of the European part of Russia.

The Dalan-Kouh protected area is one of the most important areas in the west of Isfahan Province, which despite being mountainous, has various habitats. Spiders are one of the most important elements of fauna because of their role in controlling insect populations. In this study, the authors investigated the spider species diversity of the Dalan-Kouh protected area for the first time. The specimens were collected from various habitats including agricultural fields, mountain slopes, meadows, and caves. The specimens were preserved in 70% ethanol and subsequently were studied under the stereomicroscope. While studying important cognitive structures, including mating organs and important body structures and matching with diagnostic keys, the samples were identified. In this study, 43 species of 32 genera from 15 families were studied including Filistatidae (1 sp), Scytodidae (1 sp), Pholcidae (1 sp), Agelenidae (1 sp), Oxyopidae (1 sp), Araneidae (1 sp), Cheiracanthiidae (1 sp), Tetragnathidae (2 spp, 2 genera), Linyphiidae(1 sp), Oecobiidae(2 spp, 2 genera), Titanoecidae (1 sp), Gnaphosidae(7 spp in 5 genera), Salticidae(10 spp, 8 genera), Thomicidae(10 spp, 5 genera) and Philodromidae (2 spp,1 genus). Two families Titanoecidae and Oecobiidae and 9 species were reported for the first time from Isfahan province. The number of the recorded species in this study represents a more hidden and rich diversity of spiders in Dalan-Kouh protected area which needs much further investigation. 9. Distribution and community structure of araneocoenoses (Araneae) along an altitudinal gradient on Kozuf Mountain (North Macedonia).

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to perform a biocoenological analysis of spiders and to follow their distribution along an altitudinal gradient on Kozuf Mountain. The research area extends from the foothill to the highest parts of the mountain (89–2080 m a.s.l.), covering 17 localities, characterized by a broad spectrum of habitats. The material was collected monthly, in the period of June–November 2016, with the use of pitfall traps. A bimodal increase in species richness was recorded as a consequence of more favourable conditions at an intermediate altitude in mountain ecosystems. The lowest abundance (0.77 ind. trap−1) was noted in the arid locality at the lowest altitude (89 m a.s.l.), while the highest values were registered in open habitats above 1500 m a.s.l. This is a result of the higher abundance of epigeic invertebrates in open areas in comparison to forests. The araneofauna can be divided into six araneocoenoses: an araneocoenosis inhabiting arid localities, a mygalomorph/Mediterranean araneocoenosis, a montane beech forest araneocoenosis, an araneocoenosis inhabiting damp localities, an araneocoenosis inhabiting open high-altitude localities and an araneocoenosis inhabiting high altitude forest habitats. A low degree of similarity between the araneocoenoses was detected due to the heterogeneity of habitats and altitudes. 11. Taxonomic and functional diversity of epigeal spiders (Araneae) in native forest of the Yungas (Salta, Argentina)

Abstract

The study of the arachnofauna in the argentinean Yungas is scarce. However, it is relevant due to the high environmental and biological diversity, mainly in the forest systems threatened by the advance of the agricultural frontier. The aim of this work is to compare the diversity and composition of epigeal spider assemblages in the Piedmont Forest (SP), Mountain Jungle (SM) and Mountain Forest (BM) of the Yungas in the province of Salta. Three sites of the SP and BM, and five of the SM were considered. Sampling was carried out during autumn, spring (2006) and summer (2007) with pitfall traps. A total of 643 spiders of 75 species/morphospecies were collected. The SP sites showed the highest species richness and species composition very dissimilar compared to the SM and BM. The space web weavers, other hunters and ground hunters accounted for more than 95 % of the abundance in each community considered. They showed similar patterns of abundance in SM and BM, while in SP the space web weavers markedly reduced their abundance. The change in the landscape configuration due to the land use is the main forces that would be structuring the local assemblages of the SP. This study is the first to analyze the epigeal spiders diversity and their guilds in the Yungas of the argentine north, being a starting point for future monitoring of biodiversity in the region.

ABSTRACT Changes in land use management in agricultural areas can affect the biodiversity of spider families. This study aimed to evaluate spider diversity in different land use systems with capture by two sampling methods, and to identify soil properties that can modulate the occurrence of spiders. Five land use systems, representative of traditional agricultural areas, were evaluated in the west of Santa Catarina, Brazil, to establish a scale of land use intensity: native forest, eucalyptus reforestation areas, pastures, crop-livestock integration areas, and annual crops under no-tillage. The collection methods were manual from soil monoliths and soil traps. Altogether 479 individuals were captured, which were distributed among 20 families, 40 genera, and 8 species. Principal component analysis separated the land use systems and showed an association of spider families with land use in the two sampling methods. There was reduction in spider diversity as the intensity of land use increased. The manual collection method was more efficient for families of soil spiders, whereas traps were more efficient for epigeic spiders. The Lycosidae family was more resistant to environmental pressures, while Oonopidae and Amaurobiidae were more sensitive to environmental modifications. The differences in the spider communities were explained by the following soil properties: organic matter, mean weight-diameter of soil aggregates, and resistance to penetration, which were associated with the degree of anthropic intervention in the land use systems.

Abstract

Spiders are a diverse group and are considered to be good bioindicators due to their sensitivity to variation in biotic and abiotic factors. Despite this the taxonomy of the Araneae is poorly known, particularly in the tropical and subtropical regions. The use of spider guilds can improve our understanding of the dynamics of spider communities, and in this paper we analyse the influence of climatic factors on guilds and species dominance of spiders within the leaf litter layer of a semi-deciduous forest in the tropical savanna Cerrado, Brazil. The study site was Parque Ecológico Jatobá Centenário, a fragment of 90ha, in Morrinhos, Goiás, Brazil. Spiders were sampled from November 2006 to August 2007 using pitfall traps that remained open for seven days on each of four occasions. Overall 4139 spiders from 35 families and 118 species were collected. The main families were Salticidae (28%), Linyphiidae (27%), Lycosidae (12%) and Theridiidae (11%). In terms of richness the main families were: Theridiidae, Salticidae, Corinnidae and Araneidae, with 18, 16, 15 and 13 species respectively. The overall Shannon-Wiener (H’) diversity was 3.6. The rainy season showed higher values than the dry season for abundance (2,868 and 1,271 respectively), richness (100 and 71) and diversity (3,296 and 3,237). The families Theridiidae, Corinnidae and Salticidae presented more species in both dry and wet seasons. Observed climatic variation (rainfall, humidity and temperature) between seasons influenced the community structure of ground-dwelling spiders.

14. Impact of Hedychium coronarium J. König (Zingiberaceae) on the assembly of spiders in the Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga, São Paulo State, Brazil

The invasive Hedychium coronarium J. König (Zingiberaceae) is a competitive terrestrial herb. To understand the ecological relationships and verify whether H. coronarium impacts the mounting of spiders in the soil, 45 traps were installed, distributed in three treatments and three replicas. All spiders (292 individuals) collected between January and December 2018 were identified. The Intermediate Areas had the highest number of individuals collected and the highest diversity index, with 107 spiders collected (37% of the total), distributed in 14 species, followed by Dominated Areas with 97 individuals (33%) distributed in 12 species and Free Areas with 88 individuals (30%), distributed in 10 species. The analysis showed that the assembly of spiders in Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga does not present significant differences, these results may not be the result of chance and be related to H. coronarium. Furthermore, two families showed differences in their distribution. RESUMO A invasora Hedychium coronarium J. König (Zingiberaceae) é uma erva terrestre competitiva. Para entender como estão as relações ecológicas e verificar se o H. coronarium impacta a assembleia de aranhas no solo, foram instaladas 45 armadilhas, distribuídas em três tratamentos e três réplicas. Todas as aranhas (292 indivíduos) coletadas entre janeiro e dezembro de 2018 foram identificadas. As Áreas Intermediárias apresentaram o maior número de indivíduos coletados e o maior índice de diversidade, com 107 aranhas coletadas (37% do total), distribuídas em 14 espécies, seguidas por Áreas Dominadas com 97 indivíduos (33%) distribuídas em 12 espécies e Áreas Livres com 88 indivíduos (30%), distribuídas em 10 espécies. A análise mostrou que a montagem de aranhas no Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga não apresenta diferenças significativas, esses resultados podem não ser fruto do acaso e podem estar relacionados ao H. coronarium. Além disso, duas famílias apresentaram diferenças em sua distribuição.

15. Evaluation of the design effects of different agropastoral systems on the diversity and density of spiders

Abstract

Sustainable agro-ecological design is challenging when the goal is self-regulation of the system. The objective of this study was to evaluate if the agropastoral design system affects the spider community, as spiders are the main predators in these production systems, and to determine those designs which maximize the diversity and density of spiders. The study was conducted during 2009/2010, at the Experimental Research Station of Agriculture (EEA-INTA) Reconquista (Santa Fe, Argentina) where we considered four different designs: C1 (five agricultural fields), C2 (three agricultural fields and four livestock fields), C3 (six agricultural fields and one livestock field) and C4 (five agricultural fields and one forest area). In each design, the spiders were collected by pitfall traps and suction samples with a G-Vac (garden-vacuum). The designs proposed were considered on the basis of environmental heterogeneity. The C4 treatment had the greatest number of species, followed by C2, C3 and C1 (183, 178, 144 and 142 species, respectively), and C2 presented the greatest abundance of spiders followed by C4, C3 and C1 (n=5708, 4785, 4271 and 3448, respectively). Eight guilds were present in C3 and C4. This study is the first to evaluate the diversity of spiders in agropastoral systems in Argentina. Our results show that designs that include more fields with livestock or equal to those for agriculture, as well as forest areas, increase environmental heterogeneity. Therefore, the presence of a biological controller and dominant predatory group will be possible with sustainable designs that have environmental heterogeneity, contributing to improved pest control in agricultural systems.

Abstract

Here we present faunistic, partly ecological and biogeographic data on Aranei, collected in 11districts of the Republic of Mordovia (Russia), typical area of the center of the East European Plain. The araneofauna of this region is poorly studied and our new data help to correct biogeorgaphic limits of many species. Spiders were collected by soil traps in April–July 2008 and 2012. In total, 131species from 18families are listed, 57of them are recorded for the Republic of Mordovia for the first time (marked by asterisks in the check-list). The following records are the most interesting for biogeography and bionomics in different parts of ranges: Agyneta fuscipalpa (C.L.Koch, 1836) (rare, but widespread species, which is known from semiarid and semihumid areas of the Palaearctic); Alopecosa taeniopus (Kulczyński, 1895) (the range of this species is limited by steppe zone of the Palaearctic from the Balkans to West China; it inhabits many biotopes from salt marshes to outlier and ravine forests in the forest-steppe and in the steppe zones of the East European Plain); Cheiracanthium campestre Lohmander, 1944 (a rare European species, which was registered within the East European Plain only in Rostov Region), Pardosa alacris (C.L.Koch, 1833) (widespread in Europe, confined to the subboreal zone of the East European Plain), Pardosa maisa Hippa et Mannila, 1982 (habitats of the Mordovian populations of this species are unusual; it occurs in Europe in waterlogged habitats: swamps, floodplain wet meadows, salt marshes, reed shores of lakes, very rarely and sporadically in moderately dry meadows or grasslands; this species is also confined to the shores of lakes in Western Siberia; specimens collected in Mordovia and in the Privolzhsky Forest-Steppe Reserve in Penza Region were found in dry grassy habitats), Peponocranium praeceps Miller, 1943 (arare European species, occurring in forests, meadows and swamps in Europe, but exclusively in xerophytic meadows in steppes of the Cis-Ural region), Trichoncus hackmani Millidge, 1955. Abstract

Forests with Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze trees are endangered in Brazil, and information on the diversity of soil spider families associated to these environments is practically inexistent. The present study was set up to evaluate the abundance and diversity of soil spider families in natural and reforested Araucaria forests, impacted or not by fire, and to identify the most efficient method to collect these organisms. The study was conducted in four areas: native forest with predominance of Araucaria (NF); Araucaria reforestation (R); Araucaria reforestation submitted to an accidental fire (RF); and native grass pasture with native Araucaria and submitted to an intense accidental fire (NPF). Considering both sampling methods (Monolith and Pitfall traps), 20 spider families were identified. The pitfall trap method was more effective as it captured 19 out of the 20 recorded families, while the Monolith method extracted only ten spider families. Spider family abundance and Shannon's diversity index (H) were affected by the employed collection method; the values for these attributes were always higher for the NF and lower for the NPF. Correspondence analysis (CA) showed a spatial separation among spider familiy assemblages from the different studied areas. It is suggested that changes in the abundance of soil spider families in Araucaria forests are mainly caused by recurrent human intervention over the last few years.As florestas com Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze estão ameaçadas de extinção no Brasil, e são praticamente inexistentes as informações sobre a diversidade de famílias de aranhas de solo associadas nestes ambientes. O estudo teve o objetivo de avaliar, em florestas com araucária naturais e reflorestadas, impactadas ou não pela queima acidental, a abundância e diversidade de famílias de aranhas, além de identificar o método mais eficiente para coletar estes organismos. O estudo foi conduzido em quatro áreas: floresta nativa com predominância de araucária (NF); reflorestamento de araucária (R); reflorestamento de araucária submetido a incêndio acidental (RF); e pastagem natural com araucárias nativas e ocorrência de incêndio acidental (NPF). Considerando os dois métodos de amostragem (Monólito e armadilhas de solo), foram identificadas 20 famílias de aranhas associadas às áreas. O método das armadilhas de solo foi mais eficiente, capturando 19 das 20 famílias registradas, enquanto o do Monólito extraiu apenas dez destas famílias de aranhas. A abundância de famílias de aranhas e o índice de diversidade de Shannon (H) foram afetados pelo método de coleta utilizado, sendo os valores destes atributos sempre superiores na NF e inferiores na NPF. A análise de correspondência (AC) demonstrou que existe separação espacial entre as áreas estudadas. Sugere-se que as modificações na abundância de famílias de aranhas de solo sejam provocadas principalmente pelas intervenções antrópicas que as florestas de araucária vêm sofrendo nos últimos anos.

Además de la cercana relación entre composición comunitaria y recursos disponibles, la estructura física del bosque a menudo se ha citado como un factor importante que afecta los patrones de diversidad de artrópodos. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de dos especies nativas de árbol, que difieren en su estructura física, sobre la diversidad de araneofauna en el Parque Botánico Pedro del Río Zañartu (Hualpén). Con este fin se estimó la abundancia, diversidad, semejanza y composición de la comunidad de arañas arborícolas asociadas al follaje de dos especies de árboles nativos, Peumus boldus Mol. (boldo) y Luma apiculata (D.C.) Burret (arrayán). Las arañas fueron muestreadas mensualmente usando paraguas entomológico desde marzo del 2001 hasta junio del 2002, desde 8 árboles elegidos aleatoriamente de cada especie. Un total de 1.602 ejemplares agrupados en siete familias fueron recolectados de las dos especies arbóreas, siendo las más abundantes Anyphaenidae, Theridiidae y Araneidae. Se obtuvo un índice de diversidad muy similar en los dos árboles, 1,576 para boldo y 1,288 para arrayán. El análisis de conglomerado basado en similitud de Jaccard no indica diferencias entre los gremios de araña que habitan las dos especies de árbol analizadas. En este sentido, las arañas no son restringidas por la estructura arbórea de estas especies nativas, pero pueden ser afectadas por otras variables ambientales tales como la disponibilidad de alimento.In addition to the close relationship between community composition and available resources, the physical structure of the forest has often been cited as an important factor affecting patterns of arthropod diversity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of two native tree species, differing in physical structure, on the diversity of araneofauna in the Pedro del Río Zañartu (Hualpén) Botanical Park. We estimated the abundance, diversity, similarity and structure of the arboreal spider community associated with the two native trees, Peumus boldus Mol. (boldo) and Luma apiculata (D.C.) Burret (arrayán). We sampled spiders from eight randomly selected trees of each species using entomological umbrellas with vegetation beating. Sampling was conducted monthly from March 2001 to June 2002. We collected a total of 1602 specimens belonging to 7 families. The most abundant families present on the two tree species were Anyphaenidae, Theridiidae and Araneidae. We obtained similar values for the diversity indices of both tree species (1.576 for boldo and 1.288 for arrayán). Cluster analysis based on Jaccard similarity did not indicate differences between spider guilds inhabiting either tree species. In this sense, spiders are not restricted by the arboreal structure of these native tree species, but may be affected by other environmental variables such as food availability.

Abstract

The soil spider fauna of a restinga forest in Capão do Leão, Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, was inventoried for a year. Samples were taken in the sandy restinga forest and in the ecotone, monthly, on two 30 m-long transects. Biological material was sampled with 30x30 cm quadrats, four for each transect and eight per monthly sample, with all leaf litter in the quadrats also being collected. Over the 12 samples, dry litter weighed 11.88 kg. Of a total of 96 quadrats, we calculated an annual average of 130.1 spiders/m2. The samples yielded 1124 individuals, of which 335 were adults and 788 were immature, distributed in 26 families with the highest representativity in the Oonopidae (19.57%), Lycosidae (18.06%), Theridiidae (17.08%) and Salticidae (10.68%) categories. Forty-four morphospecies were distinguished, the most abundant being Euryopis sp. (13.26%) and Guaraniella sp. (12.8%). The month with the highest number of individuals was February 2001 (170 spiders) and the one with the lowest number was July 2001 (37 specimens). Between the two transects, more spiders were found in the sandy restinga forest Araneofauna de serapilheira em mata de restinga (629 spiders) than in the ecotone (495 individuals). The species richness index was 7.39 and the estimated species richness at 53.87 morphospecies.

Abstract

La experiencia educativa y de investigación se realizóen contexto de encierro con seis personas privadas delibertad y un monitor en territorio. Se relevaron arañas entres sitios de la Unidad penitenciaria: alojamiento deprivados de libertad, campo en abandono y huertaorgánica. Se manejó la hipótesis de que la diversidad severía influenciada por disturbios ambientales producidospor humanos. Los participantes fueron formados en losconceptos básicos del método científico, aplicado alestudio de la diversidad y composición de la araneofaunalocal. Se realizaron muestreos estacionales durante unaño, se recolectó y acondicionó el material. Seidentificaron 682 arañas pertenecientes a 18 familias. Seencontró mayor riqueza en campo en abandono y menoren vivienda, por tanto, se corroboró la hipótesis. Enverano se encontró la mayor abundancia de arañas. Lasfamilias más representadas fueron Lycosidae yLinyphiidae. El número de familias por estación fue similar,aunque varió en su composición. Se encontró actividadreproductiva en seis familias, la mayoría en primavera yverano. Este trabajo permitió un rico intercambio y fue undesafío educativo, debido a las restricciones deinfraestructura y materiales permitidos en la unidadpenitenciaria. Se generó el trabajo en un clima de respetoy responsabilidad.

Abstract

The spider fauna at eight different types of forests of the Departamento del Valle del Cauca (southwestem Colombia) was sampled using diverse capture techniques. A total of 4500 specimens, grouped in 1498 morphospecies, 41 families and two suborders were collected. The most diverse families were Araneidae, Theridiidae, Salticidae, Tetragnathidae and Linyphiidae. Six families and 21 genera are recorded for the first time in Colombia. The microhabitats preferred by the sampled araneofauna are located in the low and shrubby vegetation. Hand collection, net sweeping and arboreal foliage beating were the most effective techniques for sampling spider diversity.Se muestreó la fauna de arañas en ocho tipos de bosques diferentes en el Departamento del Valle del Cauca (Suroccidente de Colombia), mediante el empleo de diversas técnicas de captura. Se coleccionaron 4500 especímenes, correspondientes a 1498 morfoespecies, 41 familias y dos subórdenes. Las familias más diversas fueron Araneidae, Theridiidae, Salticidae,Tetragnathidae y Linyphiidae. Seis familias y 21 géneros se registran por primera vez para Colombia. Los microhábitats preferidos por la araneofauna muestreada se encuentran en los estratos de vegetación baja y arbustiva. Las técnicas de captura manual, agitación de follaje arbóreo y barrido con red entomológica, fueron las más efectivas para el muestreo de la diversidad de arañas.

Abstract

Changes in land use management in agricultural areas can affect the biodiversity of spider families. This study aimed to evaluate spider diversity in different land use systems with capture by two sampling methods, and to identify soil properties that can modulate the occurrence of spiders. Five land use systems, representative of traditional agricultural areas, were evaluated in the west of Santa Catarina, Brazil, to establish a scale of land use intensity: native forest, eucalyptus reforestation areas, pastures, crop-livestock integration areas, and annual crops under no-tillage. The collection methods were manual from soil monoliths and soil traps. Altogether 479 individuals were captured, which were distributed among 20 families, 40 genera, and 8 species. Principal component analysis separated the land use systems and showed an association of spider families with land use in the two sampling methods. There was reduction in spider diversity as the intensity of land use increased. The manual collection method was more efficient for families of soil spiders, whereas traps were more efficient for epigeic spiders. The Lycosidae family was more resistant to environmental pressures, while Oonopidae and Amaurobiidae were more sensitive to environmental modifications. The differences in the spider communities were explained by the following soil properties: organic matter, mean weight-diameter of soil aggregates, and resistance to penetration, which were associated with the degree of anthropic intervention in the land use systems.

RESUMEN El estudio de la araneofauna en las Yungas argentinas es escaso. Sin embargo, es relevante debido a la alta diversidad ambiental y biológica que posee esta ecorregión, principalmente en los sistemas forestales amenazados por el avance de la frontera agropecuaria. El objetivo de este trabajo es comparar la diversidad y la composición de los ensambles de arañas epigeas en la Selva Pedemontana (SP), Selva Montana (SM) y Bosque Montano (BM) de las Yungas de la provincia de Salta. Se tomaron muestras mediante trampas de caída durante el otoño, la primavera 2006 y el verano 2007 en tres sitios de la SP, cinco en la SM, y tres en el BM. Se recolectaron 643 arañas pertenecientes a 75 especies/morfoespecies. Los ensambles de SP reportaron la mayor riqueza de especies sumado a una composición de especies muy disímil en relación con las de SM y BM. Las tejedoras espaciales, otras cazadoras y cazadoras de suelo representaron más del 95 % de la abundancia en cada comunidad. Ellas mostraron patrones semejantes de abundancia en la SM y BM, mientras que en la SP las tejedoras espaciales redujeron marcadamente su abundancia. El cambio en la configuración del paisaje debido al uso del suelo es la principal fuerza que estaría estructurando los ensambles locales de la SP. Este estudio constituye el primero en analizar la diversidad de arañas epigeas y sus gremios en las Yungas del norte argentino siendo un punto de partida para futuros monitoreos de biodiversidad en la región. El objetivo de este trabajo es comparar la diversidad y la composición de los ensambles de arañas epigeas en la Selva Pedemontana (SP), Selva Montana (SM) y Bosque Montano (BM) de las Yungas de la provincia de Salta. Se tomaron muestras mediante trampas de caída durante el otoño, la primavera 2006 y el verano 2007 en tres sitios de la SP, cinco en la SM, y tres en el BM. Se recolectaron 643 arañas pertenecientes a 75 especies/morfoespecies. Los ensambles de SP reportaron la mayor riqueza de especies sumado a una composición de especies muy disímil en relación con las de SM y BM. Las tejedoras espaciales, otras cazadoras y cazadoras de suelo representaron más del 95 % de la abundancia en cada comunidad. Ellas mostraron patrones semejantes de abundancia en la SM y BM, mientras que en la SP las tejedoras espaciales redujeron marcadamente su abundancia. El cambio en la configuración del paisaje debido al uso del suelo es la principal fuerza que estaría estructurando los ensambles locales de la SP. Este estudio constituye el primero en analizar la diversidad de arañas epigeas y sus gremios en las Yungas del norte argentino siendo un punto de partida para futuros monitoreos de biodiversidad en la región.

Visando inventariar e investigar a riqueza da fauna de aranhas de solo de um fragmento de mata antropizado, utilizou-se 50 “pitfalls trap” (número total de amostras = 600), durante 12 meses no período entre 2010–2011. Um total de 1238 indivíduos foi coletado, os quais estiveram distribuídos em 51 espécies pertencentes a 18 famílias, das quais Zodariidae e Lycosidae foram as mais abundantes, e Salticidae e Theridiidae as com maior riqueza. Observou-se ainda um alto percentual de espécies raras (“Singletons e Doubletons”). A tendência de não estabilização dos estimadores de riqueza e a relação da predição de espécies coletadas e esperadas indicam que a área precisa de uma melhor amostragem, visando melhor conhecimento da biodiversidade existente e contribuindo para o desenvolvimento para a preservação e conservação da biodiversidade local.

30. Evaluation of the design effects of different agropastoral systems on the diversity and density of spiders

Abstract

Sustainable agro-ecological design is challenging when the goal is self-regulation of the system. The objective of this study was to evaluate if the agropastoral design system affects the spider community, as spiders are the main predators in these production systems, and to determine those designs which maximize the diversity and density of spiders. The study was conducted during 2009/2010, at the Experimental Research Station of Agriculture (EEA-INTA) Reconquista (Santa Fe, Argentina) where we considered four different designs: C1 (five agricultural fields), C2 (three agricultural fields and fourlivestock fields), C3 (six agricultural fields and one livestock field) and C4 (five agricultural fields and one forest area). In each design, the spiders were collected by pitfall traps and suction samples with a G-Vac (garden-vacuum). The designs proposed were considered on the basis of environmental heterogeneity. The C4 treatment had the greatest number of species, followed by C2, C3 and C1 (183, 178, 144 and 142 species, respectively), and C2 presented the greatest abundance of spiders followed by C4, C3 and C1 (n=5708, 4785, 4271 and 3448, respectively). Eight guilds were present in C3 and C4. This study is the first to evaluate the diversity of spiders in agropastoral systems in Argentina. Our results show that designs that include more fields with livestock orequal to those for agriculture, as well as forest areas, increase environmental heterogeneity. Therefore, the presence of a biological controller and dominant predatory group will be possible with sustainable designs that have environmental heterogeneity, contributing to improved pest control in agricultural systems.

En cada período las arañas fueron recolectadas mediante trampas de caída y aspirador. Se recolectaron un total de 4439 arañas en 23 familias y 148 especies/morfoespecies. El cultivo de soja presentó mayor abundancia de arañas (B1= 512; S1= 1289; S2= 1363; B2= 1275) y riqueza de especies (B1=79, S1=92, S2=89; B2=80) que los períodos de barbecho. La abundancia/trampa mostró diferencias significativas entre los períodos de barbecho (B1-B2) y la riqueza de especies/trampa entre B1-S1 y B1-B2. Los valores de disimilitud mostraron una disminución desde B1hacia B2 donde las familias Lycosidae, Araneidae, Linyphiidae, Philodromidae, Pisauridae y Tetragnathidae contribuyen en alta proporción (superior 37%). Siete gremios estuvieron presentes (Cazadoras deambuladoras, Cazadoras corredoras sobre el suelo, Tejedoras de telas orbiculares, Otras cazadoras, Tejedoras de telas en sábanas, Tejedoras de telas espaciales y Especialistas) mostrando su abundancia diferencias significativas en los diversos momentos del período estudiado. Este trabajo demuestra que períodos de descanso del cultivo constituyen una adecuada herramienta de rotación para tener presente al momento de implementar estrategias de manejo en cultivos de soja. 35. THE STRUCTURE OF THE SPIDER POPULATION (ARANEI) OF THE DONETSK CITY WOOD PLANTINGS

Abstract

The studies of the species composition and structure of the spider population in the Donetsk City wood planting are given. A total of 109 species from 22 families were recorded. Linyphiidae (26,6% of total species in study sites), Lycosidae (11,1%) and Gnaphosidae (13,8%) were most species-rich. Lycosidae (55,6% individuals) were the more abundant. Linyphiidae (19,6%) occupied the second position. Gnaphosidae (4,8%) were less abundant than Thomisidae (10,8%). The high spider density and significant species richness are typical for country wood, in city parks these parameters have decreased. The maximal species richness (71 species) is recorded in suburban bairak wood (Yasinovataya Town). The minimal species richness is recorded in Lenynkiy Komsomol Park (32 species). The average spider density equal to 65,8 individuals to 100 trap-days. The maximal value of this parameter is recorded in suburban bairak wood (103,8 individuals to 100 trap-days). The minimal value of this parameter is recorded in the city parks (40,4 and 31,6 individuals to 100 trap-days in Scherbakova Park and Lenynkiy Komsomol Park respectively). The total percentage of the most abundant species (eudominants) in the parks has increased and the the total percent of the rare species has decreased. Location of the biotops in city space (on fringe, in the centre) with the spectrum of antropogenous influence has more determinative significance for the araneocomplex similarity, than generality of the origin (artificial wood, natural bairak oak forest).

36. The faunistic and systematic studies on the jumping spiders (Araneae:Salticidae) of the West Mediterranean region

Abstract

Bu çalışma da 2007-2009 yılları arasında Batı Akdeniz Bölgesi'nde 47 lokaliteden toplanmış olan 520 örümcek numunesinden 196 ergin örnek incelenmiştir. Salticidae familyasına ait 16 cins ve 32 tür olduğu belirlenmiştir. Euophrys pseudogambosa (Strand, 1915), Plexippoides flavescens (O. P.-Cambridge, 1872), Pellenes moreanus (Metzner, 1999) türleri Türkiye araneofaunası için yeni kayıt olarak tespit edilmiştir. Türlerin faunistik, ekolojik ve sistematik özellikleri incelenmiştir. Örneklerin morfolojik özellikleri belirtilmiş, sinonimleri ve dünya üzerinde yayılışları verilmiştir., In this study, 196 adult specimen of 520 spider samples collected from 2007 to 2009 in 47 locality in West Mediterranean region were investigated. 16 genus and 32 species in Salticidae familia were determined. Euophrys pseudogambosa (Strand, 1915), Plexippoides flavescens (O. P.-Cambridge, 1872) and Pellenes moreanus (Metzner, 1999) were determined as new records for Turkish araneofauna. Faunistic, ecologic and systematic features of species were studied. Morphological features of species were examined,synonyms and world-wide distribution were given.

Abstract

Foi realizado o inventário da araneofauna do Parque Nacional de Sete Cidades (municípios de Brasileira e Piracuruca, Piauí), utilizando amostragem padronizada para permitir comparações entre as assembléias de aranhas de seis fitofisionomias existentes na área de estudo e obter estimativas de riqueza. Utilizaram-se dados oriundos amostragem com armadilhas de queda (PTF), extratores de Winkler (WIN), guarda-chuva entomológico (GCE), rede de varredura (RV) e coletas manuais noturnas (MN), totalizando 1386 amostras; além do exame de todos os demais espécimes já coletados na área de estudo (n=1166). As análises estatísticas foram realizadas utilizando-se os dados obtidos com GCE, RV e MN. Ao todo, foram coletados 14.890 indivíduos (4491 adultos), segregados em 364 espécies. Destas, 72 foram determinadas a nível específico, 62 são novos registros para a área de estudo, 2 são novos registros para o Brasil e 48 foram reconhecidas como espécies novas por especialistas. A aplicação dos métodos GCE, RV e MN resultou em 11.085 aranhas, pertencentes a 303 espécies. As estimativas de riqueza variaram entre 355 (Bootstrap) e 467 (Jack 2). Entretanto o estimador que apresentou maior tendência a atingir a assíntota foi Chao 2 (403 spp.). A riqueza observada foi maior na mata seca semi-decídua (131 spp.), seguida pela mata de galeria (104 spp.), campo limpo (102 spp.), cerradão (91 spp.), cerrado típico (88 spp.) e cerrado rupestre (78 spp.). A eficiência dos métodos de coleta exibiu variação de acordo com a fitofisionomia onde o método foi aplicado, destacando-se a elevada eficiência da rede de varredura em áreas abertas. A composição de espécies variou entre as fitofisionomias e pode ser, em parte, explicada pela complexidade estrutural das áreas em questão. Os resultados das análises de agrupamento sugerem que em condições de dominância elevada, estes testes sejam realizados com coeficientes que utilizem dados qualitativos, a fim de anular-se o efeito da escolha do coeficiente e/ou a necessidade de transformação dos dados. De maneira geral, a araneofauna do Parque Nacional de Sete Cidades não segue padrões de agrupamento como sugerido para as análises botânicas, em que fitofisionomias campestre, savânicas e florestais são agrupadas. An inventory of the spider fauna of Sete Cidades National Park (Brasileira and Piracurua municipalities, State of Piauí), is presented using standardized sampling procedures to allow comparisons between the spider assemblages of six phytophysiognomies present at the study site and to obtain richness estimates. Data from sampling with pit-fall traps (PTF), Winkler apparatus (WIN), beating tray (GCE), sweeping net (RV) and nocturnal manual colleting (MN), totalizing 1386 samples were analyzed, together with all other specimens previously collected at the study site (n=1166). The statistical analyses were performed using data obtained with GCE, RV and MN. Altogether, 14.890 individuals (4491 adults), belonging to 364 species, were collected. From these, 72 were determined at specific level, 62 are new records for the study site, 2 are new records for Brazil and 48 were recognized as new species by specialists. The application of the methods GCE, RV and MN resulted in 11.085 spiders, belonging to 303 species. The richness estimates varied between 355 (Boostrap) and 467 (Jack 2) species. The best fit estimator, which first showed a trend to reach an asymptote, was Chao 2 (403 spp.). The observed richness was greater in tropical semideciduous dry forest (mata seca semi-decídua, 131 spp.), followed by the tropical ombrophilous alluvial occasionally flooded forest (mata de galleria, 104 spp.), medium tall grassland consisting mainly of bunch grasses (campo limpo, 102 spp.), evergreen broad-leaved woodland (cerradão, 91 spp.), evergreen broad-leaved sclerophyllous shrubland (cerrado típico, 88 spp.) and smaller in deciduous subdesert shrubland (cerrado rupestre). The efficiency of the collecting methods exhibited variation according to the phytophysiognomy in which it was applied, especially in the case of the sweeping net, which was much more efficient in open areas. The variation in species composition between the sampled phytophysiognomies can be, in part, explained by differences in the structural complexity of these vegetation types. The results of the cluster analysis suggest that, in conditions of high dominance, these tests should be performed with qualitative coefficients, in order to neutralize the effect of coefficient choose and/or the need of data transformation. The Sete Cidades National Park´s spider fauna does not followed the clustering patterns suggested by botanical analysis, by which grasslands, savannas and forested phytophysiognomies are grouped.

Abstract

Forests with Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze trees are endangered in Brazil, and information on the diversity of soil spider families associated to these environments is practically inexistent. The present study was set up to evaluate the abundance and diversity of soil spider families in natural and reforested Araucaria forests, impacted or not by fire, and to identify the most efficient method to collect these organisms. The study was conducted in four areas: native forest with predominance of Araucaria (NF); Araucaria reforestation (R); Araucaria reforestation submitted to an accidental fire (RF); and native grass pasture with native Araucaria and submitted to an intense accidental fire (NPF). Considering both sampling methods (Monolith and Pitfall traps), 20 spider families were identified. The pitfall trap method was more effective as it captured 19 out of the 20 recorded families, while the Monolith method extracted only ten spider families. Spider family abundance and Shannon's diversity index (H) were affected by the employed collection method; the values for these attributes were always higher for the NF and lower for the NPF. Correspondence analysis (CA) showed a spatial separation among spider familiy assemblages from the different studied areas. It is suggested that changes in the abundance of soil spider families in Araucaria forests are mainly caused by recurrent human intervention over the last few years. As florestas com Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze estão ameaçadas de extinção no Brasil, e são praticamente inexistentes as informações sobre a diversidade de famílias de aranhas de solo associadas nestes ambientes. O estudo teve o objetivo de avaliar, em florestas com araucária naturais e reflorestadas, impactadas ou não pela queima acidental, a abundância e diversidade de famílias de aranhas, além de identificar o método mais eficiente para coletar estes organismos. O estudo foi conduzido em quatro áreas: floresta nativa com predominância de araucária (NF); reflorestamento de araucária (R); reflorestamento de araucária submetido a incêndio acidental (RF); e pastagem natural com araucárias nativas e ocorrência de incêndio acidental (NPF). Considerando os dois métodos de amostragem (Monólito e armadilhas de solo), foram identificadas 20 famílias de aranhas associadas às áreas. O método das armadilhas de solo foi mais eficiente, capturando 19 das 20 famílias registradas, enquanto o do Monólito extraiu apenas dez destas famílias de aranhas. A abundância de famílias de aranhas e o índice de diversidade de Shannon (H) foram afetados pelo método de coleta utilizado, sendo os valores destes atributos sempre superiores na NF e inferiores na NPF. A análise de correspondência (AC) demonstrou que existe separação espacial entre as áreas estudadas. Sugere-se que as modificações na abundância de famílias de aranhas de solo sejam provocadas principalmente pelas intervenções antrópicas que as florestas de araucária vêm sofrendo nos últimos anos.

39. Ekologicko-faunistická analýza společenstev pavouků na odvale Dolu Odra

Abstract

V letech 2009 a 2010 byl proveden arachnologický výzkum na odvalu Dolu Odra v Ostravě. Na šesti stanovištích bylo celkově zjištěných 103 taxónů pavouků patřících do 21 čeledí. Na odchyt byly použity zemní formalínové pasti, metoda smykání vegetace a metoda sklepávání. Sledováná byla dominance druhů, stupeň původnosti a termopreference. Výzkum byl porovnán s výzkumem v letech 1975, 1976, 1984 a 2008. Porovnali jsme druhovou diverzitu araneocenóz studované plochy, termopreferenci a stupeň původnosti., In the years 2009 and 2010, was carried out arachnological research on the Odra Coal Mine in the City of Ostrava. On the six positions were found in total of 103 spider species, belonging to 21 families. The pitfall traps method (with formaldehyde), sweeping vegetation and beating was used for collecting of spiders. The dominance of species, relictness of occurrence and thermopreference was studied. Research was compared with research in the years 1975, 1976, 1984 and 2008. Abstract

Además de la cercana relación entre composición comunitaria y recursos disponibles, la estructura física del bosque a menudo se ha citado como un factor importante que afecta los patrones de diversidad de artrópodos. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de dos especies nativas de árbol, que difieren en su estructura física, sobre la diversidad de araneofauna en el Parque Botánico Pedro del Río Zañartu (Hualpén). Con este fin se estimó la abundancia, diversidad, semejanza y composición de la comunidad de arañas arborícolas asociadas al follaje de dos especies de árboles nativos, Peumus boldus Mol. (boldo) y Luma apiculata (D.C.) Burret (arrayán). Las arañas fueron muestreadas mensualmente usando paraguas entomológico desde marzo del 2001 hasta junio del 2002, desde 8 árboles elegidos aleatoriamente de cada especie. Un total de 1.602 ejemplares agrupados en siete familias fueron recolectados de las dos especies arbóreas, siendo las más abundantes Anyphaenidae, Theridiidae y Araneidae. Se obtuvo un índice de diversidad muy similar en los dos árboles, 1,576 para boldo y 1,288 para arrayán. El análisis de conglomerado basado en similitud de Jaccard no indica diferencias entre los gremios de araña que habitan las dos especies de árbol analizadas. En este sentido, las arañas no son restringidas por la estructura arbórea de estas especies nativas, pero pueden ser afectadas por otras variables ambientales tales como la disponibilidad de alimento.

Se muestreó la fauna de arañas en ocho tipos de bosques diferentes en el Departamento del Valle del Cauca (Suroccidente de Colombia), mediante el empleo de diversas técnicas de captura. Se coleccionaron 4500 especímenes, correspondientes a 1498 morfoespecies, 41 familias y dos subórdenes. Las familias más diversas fueron Araneidae, Theridiidae, Salticidae,Tetragnathidae y Linyphiidae. Seis familias y 21 géneros se registran por primera vez para Colombia. Los microhábitats preferidos por la araneofauna muestreada se encuentran en los estratos de vegetación baja y arbustiva. Las técnicas de captura manual, agitación de follaje arbóreo y barrido con red entomológica, fueron las más efectivas para el muestreo de la diversidad de arañas. The spider fauna at eight different types of forests of the Departamento del Valle del Cauca (southwestem Colombia) was sampled using diverse capture techniques. A total of 4500 specimens, grouped in 1498 morphospecies, 41 families and two suborders were collected. The most diverse families were Araneidae, Theridiidae, Salticidae, Tetragnathidae and Linyphiidae. Six families and 21 genera are recorded for the first time in Colombia. The microhabitats preferred by the sampled araneofauna are located in the low and shrubby vegetation. Hand collection, net sweeping and arboreal foliage beating were the most effective techniques for sampling spider diversity.
