The paper describes the innovative adaptation of some specific environmental tests from general organic coatings towards newly developed water-based composite paints with metallic particles (Al and Fe), with a high content of metal (10% and respectively 20%) for electromagnetic shielding applications. Electrical conductivity is the most affected dielectric parameter under both by UV radiation and thermal exposure. The paints with 20% metallic powder are more sensitive to environmental factors, and the influence of metal type could also be emphasized in relation to the dielectric feature evolution vs. exposure time. The action of mold significantly decreases the dielectric features of paints, but the weathering aging effect is much more enhanced if the samples are cumulatively submitted to thermal aging and respectively UV exposure, along with the action of mold. The potential application of the study is related mainly to the development of new autonomous electric cars, which need special conditions of electromagnetic shielding, under the circumstances that the conductive paint layers are normally very sensitive to environmental factors, affecting the equipment performance and security. The behavior of two polymeric protective paint coatings (epoxy and polyurethane) applied over an epoxy primer coating on steel plates was investigated in this study, focusing on their role in providing anticorrosive protection against various climatic stress factors. Among the numerous climatic factors that can affect the lifetime of anticorrosive coatings, the following were selected for this work: dry heat, UV radiation, humidity, and extreme conditions such as salt fog, marine atmosphere, and alpine atmosphere. The objective was to determine the remaining lifetime of these protective coatings before replacement is needed to prevent damage to the equipment they protect. The behavior of these polymeric materials under the mentioned factors was analyzed based on the variation in the tangent of the dielectric loss angle (tg δ) with frequency. From the interpretation of the experimental results, it was found that the polyurethane paint coating (P2) exhibits superior resistance to climatic degradation compared to the epoxy paint coating (P1). Furthermore, a comparison of tg δ values for the P1 and P2 coatings revealed that the initial (unaged) P2 coating performs better as an insulator (dielectric) than the P1 coating. Comprehensive information is provided to the users of polymeric anticorrosive protection materials, highlighting the extent to which climatic factors can affect the performance of the equipment they protect and determining the appropriate timing for replacing the coatings. This paper describes the technological process used to manufacture composite paints with a high content of metallic microparticles (Al and Fe) for automotive electromagnetic compatibility applications. The thickness of the deposited paint layer was larger for paints with a greater metal content, regardless of the plastic support used for paint deposition. The roughness of paint layers with a greater content of metal particles was about 30%–35% higher than that of layers with a lower metal particle content, regardless of the metal type. The surface roughness of paint layers containing Al was at least 2.5-times higher than that of paint layers containing Fe, an aspect that could be explained by the better formulation of the paint containing Fe. The dielectric loss and conductivity values crucially depend on the plastic substrate used, meaning that the dipolar polarization of the substrate enhances the effect of conductive paints. Based on the dielectric properties measured at 10 kHz, the optimal recipe for efficient electromagnetic compatibility was found to be 20 wt.% Fe powder, deposited on a sandblasted polycarbonate (PC) substrate. This paper describes the process to obtain ceramic nanotubes from titanium dioxide, alumina and yttrium oxide by a feasible, replicable and reliable technology, including three stages, starting from an electrospinning process of poly(methyl methacrylate) solutions. A minimum diameter of 0.3 μm was considered optimal for PMMA nanofibers in order to maintain the structural stability of covered fibers, which, after ceramic film deposition, leads to a fiber diameter of 0.5–0.6 μm. After a chemical and physical analysis of the stages of obtaining ceramic nanotubes, in all cases, uniform deposition of a ceramic film on PMMA fibers and, finally, a uniform structure of ceramic nanotubes were noted. The technological purpose was to use such nanotubes as ingredients in screen-printing inks for electrochemical sensors, because no study directly targeted the subject of ceramic nanotube applications for printed electronics to date. The printing technology was analyzed in terms of the ink deposition process, printed electrode roughness vs. type of ceramic nanotubes, derived inks, thermal curing of the electrodes and the conductivity of electrodes on different support (rigid and flexible) at different curing temperatures. The experimental inks containing ceramic nanotubes can be considered feasible for printed electronics, because they offer fast curing at low temperatures, reasonable conductivity vs. electrode length, good printability on both ceramic or plastic (flexible) supports and good adhesion to surface after curing. This paper describes the process used to produce thermoplastic building materials from non-recyclable mixed plastic–paper packaging waste. A first step was dedicated to an innovative and sustainable sterilization technology for non-recyclable waste, based on exposure to microwave radiation in closed air-circulation ovens. Further, composites with different cellulose contents and with two polymer matrices, respectively, were obtained using an injection process, and the samples were subjected to mechanical and physical tests. Due to their superior features, the products based on mixed polypropylene–paper packaging waste may successfully replace the classic polyvinylchloride-based wood–plastic composites. The environmental impact of mixed plastic–paper packaging waste was analyzed, and the sustainability of the thermoplastic technology was demonstrated from an economic and environmental point of view. The piezocomposites from poly-(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with BaTiO3 (BT) are largely presented in literature, but the composites from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with BT consist a very new scientific preoccupation. The novelty of the paper lies in a new simpler route of preparation of the two composites with PDMS and respectively PVDF matrix, with tailored deposition on specific substrates for microelectronic use (e.g. indium-tin-oxide ITO/glass, Si/Pt, polyethylene terephthalate PET), along with an extensive comparation of their dielectric features, a consistent comparison of the influence of polymer matrix upon the piezoelectric features, and a demonstration of direct use for microelectronic applications of the composites of BT with PDMS. An interesting effect is observed around 100 kHz domain, determined by the activity and architecture of BT particles mainly for the BTPDMS composites, which induce an additional ionic-dipolar conjugated polarization, as a displacement due to the balance between the resonance and anti-resonance frequency. Such phenomena explain the potential use of such composites as resonators/filters, and BT-PDMS composites should be further investigated for tailored applications in radiofrequency electronic field. We can appreciate that superior piezoelectric features are offered by the composites of BT with PDMS, comparing to the composites with PVDF, which means that the composites of BT with PDMS were worth to study, leading to more versatile variants of electronic characteristics and with superior values. The purpose of this work was to obtain an elastic composite material from polymer powders (polyurethane and polypropylene) with the addition of BaTiO3 until 35% with tailored dielectric and piezoelectric features. The filament extruded from the composite material was very elastic but had good features to be used for 3D printing applications. It was technically demonstrated that the 3D thermal deposition of composite filament with 35% BaTiO3 was a convenient process for achieving tailored architectures to be used as devices with functionality as piezoelectric sensors. Finally, the functionality of such 3D printable flexible piezoelectric devices with energy harvesting features was demonstrated, which can be used in various biomedical devices (as wearable electronics or intelligent prosthesis), generating enough energy to make such devices completely autonomous only by exploiting body movements at variable low frequencies. In this paper, the obtaining and characterization of five experimental models of novel polymer composite materials with ferrite nano-powder are presented. The composites were obtained by mechanically mixing two components and pressing the obtained mixture on a hot plate press. The ferrite powders were obtained by an innovative economic co-precipitation route. The characterization of these composites consisted of physical and thermal properties: hydrostatic density, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and TG DSC thermal analyses, along with functional electromagnetic tests in order to demonstrate the functionality of these materials as electromagnetic shields (magnetic permeability, dielectric characteristics, and shielding effectiveness). The purpose of this work was to obtain a flexible composite material, applicable to any type of architecture for the electrical and automotive industry, necessary for protection against electromagnetic interference. In this paper, raw materials were used to obtain composite materials of the type TPU/PP/BaTiO3 powder. The thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic differential calorimetry, and scanning electron microscopy were carried out. The preliminary tests for making specific filaments for 3D printing with a diameter of 1.75 mm were carried out on a laboratory extruder. The purpose of the experiment was to develop the optimal extrusion temperatures and the speed of drawing the filament to make filaments with rigorously constant dimensions, and the variation in diameter had a maximum of 10%. Sustainable materials made from recycled materials are an alternative to traditional materials (synthetic ones) and present a lower environmental impact. Due to the fact that natural fibers were successfully used to produce environmentally friendly sound adsorbing materials, biocomposites made from recycled polypropylene (PPR), feathers flour (FF) with / without compatibilizers (C) were obtained and characterized from the point of view of their acoustical behavior. Obtained materials were characterized also from the morphological and compositional point of view by scanning electron microscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis. All tested samples presented sound adsorption properties but the best results were obtained for the biocomposites with FF content of 10%-20%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
