The present investigation deals with the natural convection (NC) of Al 2 O 3 -Cu-water hybrid nanofluid (HNF) within a " π "-shaped cavity under the influence of an externally applied magnetic field (MF). Also we studied the porous media with radiative effect as well as common heat transfer for better fitting to real industrial problems. The inverse U shaped-cavity design includes upper walls that are partially heated and wavy right and left walls designed for cooling purposes, while the remaining walls are maintained as adiabatic. A FORTRAN home code using finite difference method-based approach is adopted to solve the governing equations. A verification is performed by comparing with previous numerical investigations to substantiate the precision of the established numerical model. The findings are expressed in term of stream function, isotherms, and local and averaged Nusselt number. It was found that by increasing amplitude (A), location of the heater (D), thermal radiation parameter (Rd) and wavelength (λ) about 140%, 94%, 775%, and 28% N uavg increases, respectively. In addition, by increasing Dimensionless of heat source/sink length (B), Ha, and heat generation/absorption coefficient (Q) about 20%, 1.1% and 28% N uavg decreases, respectively. Functionalized nanomaterials with surface-active groups have garnered significant research interest due to their wide-ranging applications, particularly in water treatment for removing various contaminants. This study focuses on developing a novel, multi-functional nanobiosorbent by synthesizing nanosized biochar from artichoke leaves (NBAL) and molybdic acid (MA). The resulting nanobiosorbent, MA@NBAL, is produced through a microwave-irradiation process, offering a promising material for enhanced environmental remediation. The characteristics of assembled MA@NBAL were evaluated from SEM-EDX, XPS, TGA, FT-IR, and zeta potential detection. The size of particles ranged from 18.7 to 23.7 nm. At the same time, the EDX analysis denoted the existence of several major elements with related percentage values of carbon (52.9%), oxygen (27.6%), molybdenum (8.8%), and nitrogen (4.5%) in the assembled MA@NBAL nanobiosorbent. The effectiveness of MA@NBAL in removing Hg(II) ions was monitored via the batch study method. The optimized maximum removal capacity of Hg(II) ions onto MA@NBAL was established at pH 6.0, 30.0 min equilibrium time, and 20 mg of nanobiosorbent, providing 1444.25 mg/g with a 10.0 mmol/L concentration of Hg(II). Kinetic studies revealed that the adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order model, with R 2 values ranging from 0.993 to 0.999 for the two tested Hg(II) concentrations, indicating excellent alignment with the experimental data. This suggests that the chemisorption mechanism involves cation exchange and complex formation. Isotherm model evaluation further confirmed the adsorption mechanism, with the Freundlich model providing the best fit, yielding an R 2 of 0.962. This result indicates that Hg(II) adsorption onto the surface of MA@NBAL nanobiosorbent occurs on a heterogeneous surface with multilayer formation characteristics. The results of the temperature factor and computation of the thermodynamic parameters referred to endothermic behavior via a nonspontaneous process. Finally, the valid applicability of MA@NBAL nanobiosorbent in the adsorptive recovery of 2.0 and 5.0 µg/mL Hg(II) from contaminated real aquatic matrices was explored in this study, providing 91.2-98.6% removal efficiency.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a major cause of cardiovascular diseases that may lead to mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of tetrandrine in high cholesterol diet (HCD)-induced atherosclerosis, in rats, via modulation of miR-34a, as well as, Wnt5a/Ror2/ABCA1/NF-κB pathway and to compare its efficacy with atorvastatin. Induction of AS, in male rats, was done via IP administration of vitamin D3 (70 U/Kg for 3 days) together with HCD. At the end of the 9th week, rats were treated with atorvastatin at a dose of 20 mg/kg, and tetrandrine at different doses of (18.75, and 31.25 mg/kg) for 22 days. Serum inflammatory cytokines and lipid profile, liver oxidative stress parameters, and aortic tissue Wnt5a, Ror2, ABCA1, NF-κB, miR-34a levels were assessed in all experimental groups. Histopathological and Immunohistochemical assessments of aortic tissue sections were done. Results showed that tetrandrine treatment reverted the inflammatory and oxidative stress state together with reducing the serum lipids via modulating miR-34a, and Wnt5a/Ror2/ABCA1/NF-κB pathway. Moreover, it reverted the histopathological abnormalities observed in AS rats. Tetrandrine beneficial effects, in both doses, were comparable to that of atorvastatin, in most of the discussed parameters. Statement of Problem: Three-dimensional (3D) printing has become popular in dentistry, but studies on the influence of incorporating organic and inorganic nanofillers on 3D printed materials are lacking., Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the flexural strength, color, and antimicrobial efficacy of 3D printed photopolymerizable resin upon adding titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) and silanized chitosan nanoparticles ( s CS NPs)., Material and Methods: A stereolithographic material (VarseoSmile Crown plus; Bego) was used as a control group (VSC resin), and 3 nanocomposite resin groups were prepared by adding nanoparticles as follow: titanium dioxide group (VSC resin + 0.4% wt. TiO 2 NPs), chitosan group (VSC resin + 0.4% wt. s CS NPs), and hybrid group (VSC resin + 0.2% wt. TiO 2 NPs + 0.2% wt. s CS NPs). A total of 132 specimens were designed by using a free computer-aided design software program, printed, postpolymerized, and divided into 4 groups. The nanocomposite resins were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Bar shaped specimens (n=44) were tested for 3-point flexural strength using a universal testing machine followed by the color measurement of disk-shaped specimens (n=44) with a spectrophotometer. Antimicrobial capacity was measured with Streptococcus mutans, and absorbance was measured using a microplate reader (n=44). Statistical assessments were made with 1-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey post hoc test with Bonferroni adjustment (α=.05)., Results: The hybrid group recorded the highest mean value of flexural strength 135.51 MPa, showing a significant difference compared with that of the control group (P=.022). Regarding color, the mean ∆E 00 for titanium was 1.18, for chitosan was 4.26, and for the hybrid group was 3.23 (P<.001). The optical density of the chitosan (2.42) was significantly higher than that of the titanium 1.36 (P=.007) and that of the control 1.63 (P=.042)., Conclusions: The incorporation of nanofillers resulted in an increase in flexural strength, but it adversely affected the color of nanocomposite resins. The main aim of this work is to study the effect of different nutrient supply systems and their effect on the performance of the Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. crispa) plant integration system. To achieve that, five treatments having different culture systems (T1: Aquaculture (control), T2: Hydroponics (standard requirement: N = 210, P = 31, K = 234, Mg = 48, Ca = 200, S = 64, Fe = 14, Mn = 0.5, Zn = 0.05, B = 0.5, Cu = 0.02 and Mo = 0.01 ppm), T3: Aquaponics without nutrients addition, T4: Aquaponics with supplementary nutrients (KNO 3 , 101 g L -1 , KH 2 PO 4 , 136 g L -1 , Ca(NO 3 ) 2 , 236 g L -1 , MgSO 4 , 246 g L -1 , K 2 SO 4 , 115 g L -1 and chelates for trace elements) in water (EC is 800 ppm) and T5: Aquaponics with supplementary nutrients spray on plants) were carried out. The previous systems were operated at three flow rates, namely, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 L h -1  plant -1 . The various water quality parameters, plant growth and fish growth were studied. The result indicated that the highest values of N, P, k, Ca and Mg consumption rate were found with T2 and 1.5 L h -1  plant -1 of flow rate. The root length, fresh and dry of shoot and root for lettuce plants grown in T2 system was better than those grown in different culture system (T3, T4 and T5). Different culture systems showed significant effect on fish growth in terms of weight gain, specific growth rate and feed efficiency ratio. The main aim of this study is to determine the physical and chemical properties of biochar synthesized from different materials (straw rice, sawdust, sugar cane, and tree leaves) at different pyrolysis temperatures (400, 600, and 800 °C). The physical and chemical properties such as moisture content, water holding capacity, bulk density, and porosity; and pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter, organic carbon, total nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and sulfur were determined, respectively. The results show that the biochar yield decreased with increasing pyrolysis temperature, and the values of the analyzed properties varied depending on the type of biochar and pyrolysis temperature. The moisture content ranged from 1.11 to 4.18%, and the water holding capacity ranged from 12.9 to 27.6 g water g -1 dry sample. The highest value of bulk density (211.9 kg m -3 ) was obtained from sawdust at a pyrolysis temperature of 800 °C. The porosity values ranged from 45.9 to 63.7%. The highest values of pH and EC (10.4 and 3.46 dS m -1 ) were obtained from tree leaves at a pyrolysis temperature of 800 °C. Total organic matter ranged from 66.0 to 98.1%, total organic carbon ranged from 38.3 to 56.9%, and total nitrogen ranged from 0.4 to 1.9%. The highest values of phosphorus and calcium content (134.6 and 649.0 mg kg -1 ) were obtained from sugar cane at a pyrolysis temperature of 800 °C. Objectives: Dental implants are currently becoming a routine treatment decision in dentistry. Synthetic polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer is a prevalent component of dental implantology field. The current study aimed to assess the influence of Nd:YAG laser nano-topographical surface engineering combined with ultraviolet light or platelet rich fibrin on the bioactivity and osseointegration of PEEK implants in laboratory and animal testing model., Materials and Methods: Computer Aided Design-Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD CAM) discs of PEEK were used to fabricate PEEK discs (8 mm × 3 mm) N = 36 and implant cylinders (3 mm × 6 mm) N = 72. Specimens were exposed to Nd:YAG laser at wavelength 1064 nm, and surface roughness topography/Ra parameter was recorded in nanometer using atomic force microscopy. Laser modified specimens were divided into three groups: Nd:YAG laser engineered surfaces (control), Nd:YAG laser/UV engineered surfaces and Nd:YAG laser/PRF engineered surfaces (N = 12 discs-N = 24 implants). In vitro bioactivity test was performed, and precipitated apatite minerals were assessed with X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In vivo histomorphometric analysis was performed in rabbits with BIC% calculation., Results: Ra mean value of PEEK laser engineered surfaces was 125.179 nm. For the studied groups, XRD patterns revealed distinctive peaks of different apatite minerals that were demonstrated by SEM as dispersed surface aggregations. There was a significant increase in the BIC% from control group 56.43 (0.97) to laser/UV surfaces 77.30 (0.78) to laser/PRF 84.80 (1.29) (< 0.0001)., Conclusions: Successful engineered nano-topographical biomimetic PEEK implant could be achieved by Nd:YAG laser technique associated with improving bioactivity. The combination with UV or PRF could be simple and economic methods to gain more significant improvement of PEEK implant surface bioactivity with superior osteointegration., (© 2023. The Author(s).)

Aquaponics is the combined culture of fish and plants in recirculating aquaculture systems, considered to be an innovative, eco-friendly and sustainable technology. The effect of the hydraulic loading rate (HLR) on the performance of fish and plants in the aquapoinc system was the main aim of this study. Four hydraulic loading rates were applied, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 m day -1 under stocking density tilapia fish of 5 kg m -3 and lettuce population of 25 plant m -2 for a period of January to March, 2023. Water parameters, plant and fish parameters were determined. The most important results revealed that the highest plant nutrients removal was at HLR of 2.4 m day -1 . The highest value of water parameters were found at the HLR of 2.4 m day -1 . Root length increased with increasing HLR. Fresh and dry shoot and root weight values were higher at 2.4 m day -1 compared to other treatments under study. Meanwhile, fish growth parameter showed higher values at the HLR of 3.0 m day -1 compared to other treatments. The highest values of weight gain, feed growth rate, specific growth rate and feed conversion ratio were 81.72 g, 1.36 g day -1 , 1.88% day -1 and 1.20 g feed g -1 fish, respectively, for all treatments under study., (© 2023. The basil leaves were dried different sources of energy at different loading rates. Using hybrid solar drying compared to the conventional source of energy such as fossil and propane. Drying parameters were studied. Also, product quality was assessed under study treatments. The results indicated that the higher accumulated weight loss of basil leaves (75.56%) were obtained at 25 kg m -2 loading rate and solar drying system. The highest rate of the decrease in moisture content of basil leaves was happened at the 45 kg m -2 loading rates. Meanwhile, the lowest rate of the decrease in moisture content of basil leaves was found at 15 kg m -2 loading rates. The highest drying rate of basil leaves (219.54 g water  kg -1  h -1 ) was obtained at the loading rate of 15 kg m -2 . The highest values of total chlorophyll and color of basil leaves 745.9 and 36.35 were found for solar dryer. The lowest values of total chlorophyll and color of basil leaves 703.5 and 31.66 were found for diesel dryer. The drying efficiency ranged from 33.98 to 40.33% for all batch loads. The highest essential oil yield obtained for solar dryer, the lowest essential oil yield occurred for diesel dryer. The highest value of volatile compounds with found for solar dryer. The total costs for basil drying were 19.73, 26.70 and 23.93 LE h -1 for solar, diesel and propane dryers, respectively. Heavy metal (HMs) levels were evaluated in aquacultured tilapia fish collected from two highly producing districts in Egypt (Kafr El-Sheikh and El-Faiyum Governorates) during two seasons (autumn 2021 and spring 2022). As well, health risk assessment of exposure to HMs in tilapia fish was studied. The results revealed that six HMs: As, Cu, Fe, Mn, Cr and Zn were predominant in fish samples of the first season (autumn 2021), while most of HMs were existed in samples of the second season. All samples of the two seasons were free of Hg. Notably, autumn season's fish samples showed higher concentrations of HMs than those of the spring season. As well, Kafr El-Sheikh farms were highly contaminated with HMs than those of El-Faiyum governorate. Risk assessment results indicated that the THQ values of As substantially exceeded 1 either for Kafr El-Shaikh samples (3.15 ± 0.5) or for El-Faiyum samples (2.39 ± 0.8) of autumn season. Meanwhile, THQ values for all HMs, in spring season 2021, were less than one whole. These results indicated a potential health risk arising from the exposure to HMs, As in particular, in fish samples of autumn season as compared to those of spring season. The bio-composite films based on Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) reinforced with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and Titanium oxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 -NPs) were developed. Some physical and mechanical properties: Tensile strength (TS), elongation (E), Young's elastic modulus (EM), water vapor permeability (WVP) and transparency were determined. Antibacterial properties of these films were also studied. The tensile strength values of HPMC film reinforced with Ag NPs and TiO 2 -NPs and HPMC without nanoparticles were 39.24, 143.87 and 157.92 MPa, respectively. Elongation of the HMPC film was less than the HPMC film reinforced with AgNPs and TiO 2 -NPs, the results were 2, 35 and 42%, respectively. Additionally, Young's elastic modulus of HMPC film was determined to be 19.62 MPa and the HPMC film reinforced with AgNPs and TiO 2 -NPs were 4.11 and 3.76 MPa, respectively. The values of WVP of HMPC film was higher than the HMPC film reinforced with AgNPs and TiO 2 -NPs, where they were 0.5076 × 10 -3 , 0.4596 × 10 -3 and 0.4504 × 10 -3 (g/msPa), respectively. Nano-composite films demonstrated strong antibacterial activity against tested pathogen bacteria in the contact surface zone. The antibacterial activites of AgNPs (~ 10 nm) at 80 ppm were more active than 20 and 40 ppm against foodborne pathogen i.e. Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli, the inhibition zone diameters were 9 and 10 mm, respectively. As well, TiO 2 -NPs (~ 50 nm) at 80 ppm were more active than 20 and 40 ppm against B. cereus and Salmonella Typhimurium, the inhibition zone diameters were11 and 10 mm, respectively., (© 2023. Egypt is the country with the highest known hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevalence worldwide. The origin of gender differences in HCV prevalence is not usually well understood. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to review and evaluate the gender differences in HCV infection rates amongst Egyptians. Such data would be important to support prevention and control programs aiming to minimize HCV-related morbidity and mortality. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (WOS) were searched for relevant articles published from 1st January 2011 to 13th December 2021, using the search terms (HCV OR "hepatitis C" OR hepacivirus) AND (prevalence OR seroprevalence OR epidemiology OR incidence OR magnitude). At first, retrieved articles were screened, and then relevant data were extracted and analyzed. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Out of 616 studies from databases, only 30 were included after the full-text screening, with 193,621 included participants: 97,597 male and 96,024 female. The overall seroprevalence of HCV antibodies in all included studies was 0.02 (CI - 0.23 to 0.28), with no significant difference between males and females. However, HCV RNA positivity was significantly more prevalent in males than females in adults and the general population (after excluding high-risk groups). In children, no statistically significant differences between males and females were found in the seroprevalence of HCV antibodies nor in the prevalence of PCR positivity. Purpose: To compare the nanoleakage between bulkfill and incremental-fill resin composites in class II slot preparations for primary and permanent teeth restored by the snowplow technique., Materials and Methods: Class II slots were prepared in 32 M (16 exfoliated/extracted primary and 16 permanent molars). Optibond All-InOne self-etching adhesive was applied and cured. A flowable composite, Premise, was then injected into the gingival seat without curing using the snowplow technique. Cavities were restored using Sonicfill/bulkfill or microhybrid Herculite composites. Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry was used to assess nanoleakage as silver deposition percentages along the axial and cervical walls. Multivariate analysis of variance was used to assess the effect of tooth type (primary and permanent teeth) and placement technique (bulkfill and incremental techniques) on nanoleakage at the axial and cervical walls., Results: Bulkfill restorations had significantly greater nanoleakage than incremental restorations at the cervical walls in primary and permanent molars (mean = 1.21 vs 0.49 in primary molars and 0.76 vs 0.24 in permanent molars). Equivalent results were observed at the axial walls of the restorations (mean = 0.66 vs 0.14 in primary molars and 0.28 vs 0.08 in permanent molars, with a P value of<0.001)., Conclusions: Less nanoleakage was observed in class II slot/snowplow resin-composite restorations using the incremental technique compared to bulkfill in both dentitions. Scientific evidence has shown that fipronil induces oxidative stress and genotoxicity. Our study aimed to evaluate the potential oxidation in redox parameters and DNA, as well as determine the protective effect of date extract of increasing resistance to cellular damage. 30 Male albino rats were divided into six groups ( n = 5): 1) control group; 2) treatment group with date extract (1 g/kg B.W.); 3) treatment group with 1/20 LD50 of fipronil; 4) treatment group with 1/40 LD50 of fipronil; 5) treatment group with 1/20 LD50 of fipronil + 1 g/kg date extract; and 6) treatment group with 1/40 LD50 of fipronil + 1 g/kg dates extract. Date extract showed a high content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant properties. Fipronil increased 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine levels and lipid peroxidation by malondialdehyde but decreased the total antioxidant capacity in plasma. Moreover, glutathione, catalase, and superoxide dismutase levels in the liver and kidney decreased, along with histopathological abnormalities. Additionally, tail moment parameters of liver DNA and micronucleus frequencies in the bone marrow increased. This study showed that fipronil-induced various health hazards in vivo, whereas date extract alleviated the said toxicological effects. The main aim of this research is to study the effect of flow rate, diameter and number of nozzles on the rotational velocity, impulse force and average velocity of water in circular fish tanks. The results indicated that, the rotational velocity increases with increasing flow rates from 5 to 75 m 3  h -1 by using 10 and 15 mm nozzles diameter with nozzles number of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30. The same results were also obtained when 20 and 25 mm nozzle diameter with nozzles number of 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 were used. The impulse force of water decreases with increasing nozzle diameter from 10.0 to 15.0 mm with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 nozzles and from 20.0 to 25.0 mm with 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 nozzles. When the nozzle diameter increased from 10 to 25 mm the impulse force of water decreased with 15 nozzles. The average velocity of water decreases with increasing nozzles diameter from 10.0 to 15.0 mm with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 nozzles and from 20.0 to 25.0 mm with 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 nozzles. Hydrogel-based matrix prepared using biopolymers is a new frontier of emerging platforms for enzyme immobilization for biomedical applications. Catalase (CAT) delivery can be effective in inhibiting reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated prolongation of the wound healing process. In this study, to improve CAT stability for effective application, gelatin(Gel)-alginate (Alg) biocompatible hydrogel (Gel-Alg), as immobilization support, was prepared using calcium chloride as an ionic cross-linker. High entrapment efficiency of 92% was obtained with 2% Gel and 1.5% Alg. Hydrogel immobilized CAT (CAT-Gel-Alg) showed a wide range of pH from 4 to 9 and temperature stability between 20 to 60 °C, compared to free CAT. CAT-Gel-Alg kinetic parameters revealed an increased K (24.15 mM) and a decreased m (24.15 mM) and a decreased V max (1.39 µmol H 2 . CAT-Gel-Alg retained 52% of its original activity after 20 consecutive catalytic runs and displayed improved thermal stability with a higher 2 value (half-life of 100.43 vs. 46 min). In addition, 85% of the initial activity was maintained after 8 weeks' storage at 4 °C. At 24 h after thermal injury, a statistically significant difference in lesion sizes between the treated group and the control group was reported. Finally, our findings suggest that the superior CAT-Gel-Alg stability and reusability are resonant features for efficient biomedical applications, and ROS scavenging by CAT in the post-burn phase offers protection for local treatment of burned tissues with encouraging wound healing kinetics.4 . CAT-Gel-Alg retained 52% of its original activity after 20 consecutive catalytic runs and displayed improved thermal stability with a higher t 1/2 value (half-life of 100.43 vs. 46 min). In addition, 85% of the initial activity was maintained after 8 weeks' storage at 4 °C. At 24 h after thermal injury, a statistically significant difference in lesion sizes between the treated group and the control group was reported. Recent industrial development and research progress in nanotechnology have led to the release of a number of nanomaterials with particle sizes (1-10 nm) which are categorized as quantum dots (QDs) in aquatic system. Disposal away of such QDs will cause potential pollution to the environment. Therefore, removal of disposed QDs from wastewater represents a challenging research subject for scientists and engineers. Hence, the objective of this study is devoted to assess the process of coagulative removal of silver quantum dots (Ag-QDs), as an example, from water by a novel super magnetic nanocomposite. Such material was aimed to prepare from the chemical combination and reaction of a generated Citrus sinensis and Citrus reticulata peels biochar (SMCsr-B) with spinel cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 ) as a super-magnetic source. The produced (SMCsr-B) was then crosslinked with polyurea-formaldehyde polymer (PUF) using EDA in only two minutes via microwave irradiation to produce (SMCsr-B/PUF). The SEM, EDX, FT-IR, XRD, and XPS analyses of the assembled (SMCsr-B/PUF) nanocomposite were acquired to confirm surface morphology and chemical structure. Controlling experimental factors were investigated as pH, time, and Ag-QDs pollutant concentration using microwave irradiative removal technique to establish the efficiency of coagulative adsorption of Ag-QDs onto (SMCsr-B/PUF). The solution (pH 5) was proved to exhibit the higher removal percentages of Ag-QDs in 15-25 s. SMCsr-B/PUF nanocomposite exhibited high removal efficiency as 93.12%, 92.39% and 92.48% upon using 20, 40 and 60 mg L -1 of Ag-QDs, respectively in presence of 10 mM NaCl. The kinetic and equilibrium adsorption data were best fitted to Freundlich model. Nanotechnology is currently a field of endeavour that has reached a maturation phase beyond the initial hypotheses with an undercurrent challenge to optimise the safety, and scalability for production and clinical trials. Lipid-based nanoparticles (LNP), namely solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) and nanostructured lipid (NLC), carriers are presently among the most attractive and fast-growing areas of research. SLN and NLC are safe, biocompatible nanotechnology-enabled platforms with ubiquitous applications. This review presents a modern vision that starts with a brief description of characteristics, preparation strategies, and composition ingredients, benefits, and limitations. Next, a discussion of applications and functionalization approaches for the delivery of therapeutics via different routes of delivery. Additionally, the review presents a concise perspective into limitations and future advances. A brief recap on the prospects of molecular dynamics simulations in better understanding NP bio-interface interactions is provided. Finally, the alliance between 3D printing and nanomaterials is presented here as well.

Protein amino acid sequences can be used to determine the functions of the protein. However, determining the function of a single protein requires many resources and a tremendous amount of time. Computational Intelligence methods such as Deep learning have been shown to predict the proteins' functions. This paper proposes a hybrid deep neural network model to predict an unknown protein's functions from sequences. The proposed model is named Deep&#95;CNN&#95;LSTM&#95;GO. Deep&#95;CNN&#95;LSTM&#95;GO is an Integration between Convolutional Neural network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Neural Network to learn features from amino acid sequences and outputs the three different Gene Ontology (GO). The gene ontology represents the protein functions in the three sub-ontologies: Molecular Functions (MF), Biological Process (BP), and Cellular Component (CC). The proposed model has been trained and tested using UniProt-SwissProt's dataset. Another test has been done using Computational Assessment of Function Annotation (CAFA) on the three sub-ontologies. The proposed model outperforms different methods proposed in the field with better performance using three different evaluation metrics (Fmax, Smin, and AUPR) in the three sub-ontologies (MF, BP, CC)., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. An automatic feeder for fish feeding was manufactured and evaluated successively. Feed pellet size, air flow rate and feeder screw speed were the most important factors affecting the performance and efficiency of the automatic feeder. It was tested at 3 sizes of pellets (1, 2 and 3 mm), 3 air flow rates (10, 15 and 20 m 3  min -1 ) and 5 screw speeds (180, 360, 540, 720 and 900 rpm). The automatic feeder productivity, efficiency, specific energy consumption and costs were determined. The obtained results indicated that the automatic feeder productivity increases with increasing feed pellets size, air flow rate and rotational speed of screw treatments under study, the automatic feeder efficiency increased with increasing rotational speed of screw until it reached the highest value at 540 rpm and then remain constant at 720-900 rpm and after that decreased with increasing speed. Meanwhile, the specific energy consumption of automatic feeder decreased with increasing feed pellets size, air flow rate and rotational speed of screw treatments under study. The total cost of using automatic feeder ranged from 0.09 to 0.16 EGP kg -1 ($ = 15.63 EGP) for all treatments under study. This feeder will save time, effort and cost for fish industry., (© 2021. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system which injures the myelin sheath. Telmisartan and nifedipine are antihypertensive drugs that recently showed neuroprotective properties against neurodegenerative diseases. This study evaluated the neuroprotective effect of telmisartan or nifedipine in cuprizone-induced demyelination in mice by examining the underlying mechanisms. C57BL/6 mice received a diet containing 0.7% (w/w) cuprizone for 7 days followed by 3 weeks on a 0.2% cuprizone diet. Telmisartan (5 mg/kg/day, p.o.) or nifedipine (5 mg/kg/day, p.o.) was administered for 3 weeks starting from the second week. Telmisartan or nifedipine improved locomotor activity and enhanced motor coordination as demonstrated by open field, rotarod, and grip strength tests. Furthermore, telmisartan or nifedipine restored myelin basic protein mRNA and protein expression and increased luxol fast blue-staining intensity. Telmisartan or nifedipine attenuated cuprizone-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis by decreasing brain malondialdehyde and caspase-3 along with restoring reduced glutathione and brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. Telmisartan or nifedipine exerted an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the expression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB p65) as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines and elevating the expression of IκB-α. In parallel, telmisartan or nifedipine upregulated the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and the levels of heme oxygenase-1 and NADPH quinone oxidoreductase 1 enzymes. In conclusion, the current study provides evidence for the protective effect of telmisartan and nifedipine in cuprizone-induced demyelination and behavioral dysfunction in mice possibly by modulating NF-κB and Nrf2 signaling pathways., (© 2021. The main aim of this paper was to investigate the possibility of growing basil under three soilless systems (aeroponic, hydroponic and peatmoss slab systems). A model was developed to predict the nutrients consumption by basil plants. Shoot and root height, fresh and dry mass of whole plant, nutrients uptake, and oil content were studied during the growth period (after 4 and 7 weeks from transplanting). The results indicated that the shoot lengths of basil plants were 71.67 ± 2.89, 65.67 ± 1.15 and 62.33 ± 2.31 cm at the end of growth period for aeroponic, hydroponic and peatmoss slabs, respectively. The highest value of root height of basil plants was 37.67 ± 6.66 cm for aeroponic system. The dry mass of shoot of basil plants ranged from 28.48 ± 0.91 to 44.77 ± 0.97 and 72.98 ± 0.83 to 117.93 ± 1.40 g plant -1 after 4 and 7 weeks from transplanting, respectively. The highest values of the N, P, K, Ca and Mg uptakes were 753.99 ± 5.65, 224.88 ± 3.05, 449.75 ± 4.59, 529.12 ± 6.63 and 112.44 ± 1.67 mg plant -1 at the end of experimental period, respectively. The basil oil content ranged from 1.129 (1.11%) to 2.520 (1.80%) and 2.664 (1.42%) to 6.318 (1.44%) g plant -1 after 4 and 7 weeks from transplanting, respectively at the same pervious order. The production costs of basil plant were 2.93, 5.27 and 6.24 EGP kg -1 of plant. The model results were in a reasonable agreement with the experimental ones.

Auxetic structures have attracted attention in energy absorption applications owing to their improved shear modulus and enhanced resistance to indentation. On the other hand, four-dimensional (4D) printing is an emerging technology that is capable of 3D printing smart materials with additional functionality. This paper introduces the development of a NiTi negative-Poisson's-ratio structure with superelasticity/shape memory capabilities for improved ballistic applications. An analytical model was initially used to optimize the geometrical parameters of a re-entrant auxetic structure. It was found that the re-entrant auxetic structure with a cell angle of -30° produced the highest Poisson's ratio of -2.089. The 4D printing process using a powder bed fusion system was used to fabricate the optimized NiTi auxetic structure. The measured negative Poisson's ratio of the fabricated auxetic structure was found in agreement with both the analytical model and the finite element simulation. A finite element model was developed to simulate the dynamic response of the optimized auxetic NiTi structure subjected to different projectile speeds. Three stages of the impact process describing the penetration of the top plate, auxetic structure, and bottom plate have been identified. The results show that the optimized auxetic structures affect the dynamic response of the projectile by getting denser toward the impact location. This helped to improve the energy absorbed per unit mass of the NiTi auxetic structure to about two times higher than that of the solid NiTi plate and five times higher than that of the solid conventional steel plate.

The increasing rates of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDs) are threatening pregnant women, parents, and clinicians caring for healthy infants and children. NDs can initially start through embryonic development due to several reasons. Up to three in 1000 pregnant women have embryos with brain defects; hence, the primitive detection of embryonic neurodevelopmental disorders (ENDs) is necessary. Related work done for embryonic ND classification is very limited and is based on conventional machine learning (ML) methods for feature extraction and classification processes. Feature extraction of these methods is handcrafted and has several drawbacks. Deep learning methods have the ability to deduce an optimum demonstration from the raw images without image enhancement, segmentation, and feature extraction processes, leading to an effective classification process. This article proposes a new framework based on deep learning methods for the detection of END. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that uses deep learning techniques for detecting END. The framework consists of four stages which are transfer learning, deep feature extraction, feature reduction, and classification. The framework depends on feature fusion. The results showed that the proposed framework was capable of identifying END from embryonic MRI images of various gestational ages. To verify the efficiency of the proposed framework, the results were compared with related work that used embryonic images. The performance of the proposed framework was competitive. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a common imaging technique used extensively to study human brain activities. Recently, it has been used for scanning the fetal brain. Amongst 1000 pregnant women, 3 of them have fetuses with brain abnormality. Hence, the primary detection and classification are important. Machine learning techniques have a large potential in aiding the early detection of these abnormalities, which correspondingly could enhance the diagnosis process and follow up plans. Most research focused on the classification of abnormal brains in a primary age has been for newborns and premature infants, with fewer studies focusing on images for fetuses. These studies associated fetal scans to scans after birth for the detection and classification of brain defects early in the neonatal age. This type of brain abnormality is named small for gestational age (SGA). This article proposes a novel framework for the classification of fetal brains at an early age (before the fetus is born). As far as we could know, this is the first study to classify brain abnormalities of fetuses of widespread gestational ages (GAs). The study incorporates several machine learning classifiers, such as diagonal quadratic discriminates analysis (DQDA), K-nearest neighbour (K-NN), random forest, naïve Bayes, and radial basis function (RBF) neural network classifiers. Moreover, several bagging and Adaboosting ensembles models have been constructed using random forest, naïve Bayes, and RBF network classifiers. The performances of these ensembles have been compared with their individual models. Our results show that our novel approach can successfully identify and classify numerous types of defects within MRI images of the fetal brain of various GAs. Using the KNN classifier, we were able to achieve the highest classification accuracy and area under receiving operating characteristics of 95.6% and 99% respectively. In addition, ensemble classifiers improved the results of their respective individual models.

Recently, there are growing demands in manufacturing of net shape micro parts for wide range of applications due to the increasing interest in miniaturization. In this paper, the fabrication of tetragonal phase zirconia/alumina (YSZ/Al₂O₃) nanocomposite micro-parts with high quality is presented. The fabrication process is based on soft lithography and colloidal powder dispersion. Experimental results showed that by optimizing the soft lithography and the dispersion process, it was possible to produce high-resolution micro-parts with well dispersed alumina. The X-ray diffraction results had confirmed the important role of the alumina particles in eliminating the emergence of monoclinic phase while the microstructures reveal a pure tetragonal phase. In addition, the sintered YSZ/Al₂O₃ micro parts achieved micro hardness with 20% superior to the pure YSZ sintered micro-parts with the addition of 5% alumina.

Selective laser melting (SLM) is a widely used additive manufacturing process that can be used for printing of intricate three dimensional (3D) metallic structures. Here we demonstrate the fabrication of titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V alloy based 3D meshes with nodally-connected diamond like unit cells, with lattice spacing varying from 400 to 1000 microns. A Concept Laser M2 system equipped with laser that has a wavelength of 1075 nm, a constant beam spot size of 50μm and maximum power of 400W was used to manufacture the 3D meshes. These meshes act as optical shutters / directional transmitters and display interesting optical properties. A detailed optical characterisation was carried out and it was found that these structures can be optimised to act as scalable rotational shutters with high efficiencies and as angle selective transmission screens for protection against unwanted and dangerous radiations. The efficiency of fabricated lattice structures can be increased by enlarging the meshing size.

Background: Lifelong surveillance after endovascular repair (EVAR) of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) is considered mandatory to detect potentially life-threatening endograft complications. A minority of patients require reintervention but cannot be predictively identified by existing methods. This study aimed to improve the prediction of endograft complications and mortality, through the application of machine-learning techniques., Methods: Patients undergoing EVAR at 2 centres were studied from 2004-2010. Pre-operative aneurysm morphology was quantified and endograft complications were recorded up to 5 years following surgery. An artificial neural networks (ANN) approach was used to predict whether patients would be at low- or high-risk of endograft complications (aortic/limb) or mortality. Centre 1 data were used for training and centre 2 data for validation. ANN performance was assessed by Kaplan-Meier analysis to compare the incidence of aortic complications, limb complications, and mortality; in patients predicted to be low-risk, versus those predicted to be high-risk., Results: 761 patients aged 75 +/- 7 years underwent EVAR. Mean follow-up was 36+/- 20 months. An ANN was created from morphological features including angulation/length/areas/diameters/volume/tortuosity of the aneurysm neck/sac/iliac segments. ANN models predicted endograft complications and mortality with excellent discrimination between a low-risk and high-risk group. In external validation, the 5-year rates of freedom from aortic complications, limb complications and mortality were 95.9% vs 67.9%; 99.3% vs 92.0%; and 87.9% vs 79.3% respectively (p<0.001)., Conclusion: This study presents ANN models that stratify the 5-year risk of endograft complications or mortality using routinely available pre-operative data.

O-glycosylation is one of the main types of the mammalian protein glycosylation; it occurs on the particular site of serine (S) or threonine (T). Several O-glycosylation site predictors have been developed. However, a need to get even better prediction tools remains. One challenge in training the classifiers is that the available datasets are highly imbalanced, which makes the classification accuracy for the minority class to become unsatisfactory. In our previous work, we have proposed a new classification approach, which is based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and random forest (RF); this approach has considered the imbalanced dataset problem. The PSO parameters setting in the training process impacts the classification accuracy. Thus, in this paper, we perform parameters optimization for the PSO algorithm, based on genetic algorithm, in order to increase the classification accuracy. Our proposed genetic algorithm-based approach has shown better performance in terms of area under the receiver operating characteristic curve against existing predictors. In addition, we implemented a glycosylation predictor tool based on that approach, and we demonstrated that this tool could successfully identify candidate glycosylation sites in case study protein.
