This work aimed ato research the distribution of insects associated with aquatic macrophytes and the similarity among collection sites during the reflux period in a stretch of Correntoso river, Pantanal do Negro, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The collection sites were determined by changes in the riparian formation structure, characterized as open when there is communication with flooded fields and intermediary and closed when there is not any communication withflooded fields. Three collections were taken at six sample sites, during reflux periods. The organisms were collected using a D net, 300 mm mesh, with samples from five nets thrown in roots of aquatic macrophytes. Family richness, absolute and relative abundance of the insects found, and similarity of collection sites were analyzed using Euclidian distance and complete connection, Shannon-Wiener diversity index, with log2. Sixty-four families from 10 orders of Hexapoda class were registered, totaling 2,525 individuals – 2,405 of them aquatic and semiaquatic, and 120 terrestrial. The collect sites did not present a fixed model of similarity, and the formation of groups occurred in distinct forms at each collection.

The intensification of dairy livestock has affected the quality of hydric resources, as well as the riparian forests of permanent preservation areas in these regions, affecting the local biota. This thesis has the aim of assessing the relationship between richness, abundance, composition, and functional trophic groups of aquatic insects with spatial, seasonal, and environmental variation, as well as propose an environmental sustainability indicator to dairy livestock farms. Aquatic insects and physicochemical water data were collected in twelve dairy livestock farms in Vale do Taquari (RS) in the four seasons of the year. To each sample, the richness, abundance, composition, and trophic functional groups were calculated, as well as the biotic index BMWP (Biological Monitoring Working Party Score System). The richness and abundance were analyzed through Friedman's and Mann-Whitney tests, and the composition through Permutational Multivariate Analysis of Variance (PERMANOVA) and Non-metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS). The influence of environmental variables (physicochemical water data, vegetation cover aspects, and BMWP) were assessed through Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA). To propose an environmental sustainability indicator using aquatic insects, five sustainability concepts were defined based on Pielou's and Shannon's indexes. A total of 2.724 individuals from 38 families were collected. The abundance and the richness of families did not vary between the sampling points, but the abundance was significantly different between seasons. The richness of trophic functional groups varies between seasons but did not between the sampling points. The composition of trophic functional groups indicated significant differences between the sampling points, as well as the seasons. The environmental variables were correlated to the abundance and composition of families, as well as to the abundance of trophic functional groups. This thesis reinforces the potential of aquatic insects as bioindicators of impacts from dairy livestock farms and can be used in environmentally sustainable initiatives, prioritizing the conservation of natural resources through the identification of the factors that can alter the health of aquatic ecosystems.

- Abstract
Gorgona is a Colombian continental island that biogeographically belongs in the Choco region. This work constitutes a first approximation to the aquatic insects, with emphasis in Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera: distribution, ecology, and associations to the continental mainland. Between October 2010 and June 2011, immature and adult specimens were collected in five streams of the island's Western sector using entomological nets, Malaise traps, and light traps. A total of nine orders, 28 families, 39 genera and 16 species of aquatic insects were found. New geographical records for Gorgona include: Dytiscidae (Coleoptera), Zelusia, Farrodes and Terpides (Ephemeroptera), Leucotrichia and Wormaldia (Trichoptera), Laccodytes, Neoelmis and Pheneps (Coleoptera), Maruina and Limonia (Diptera). As part of this study, four new species for each, Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera, were found. Leptohyphes jodiannae, L. maculatus and Hagenulopsis esmeralda are recorded for the first time for Colombia. Farrodes caribbianus, F. roundsi, Hagenulopsis zunigae, Zelusia principalis and Anacroneuria choco are reported for the first time for the National Park. The high abundance of families, genera, and species is similar to that of low order streams in the tropic mainland, particularly those associated to the Choco bio-geographical province. richness and abundance ,environmental quality ,aquatic entomofauna - Abstract
The present study characterized the macrobenthic entomofauna of the Sardinas river and the La Delicia stream. Their environmental quality water was determined by applying the BMWP/Col (Biological Monitoring Working Party for Colombia) index in two sampling points, distributed in the Sardinas river and La Delicia stream, during the months of May and June 2017. For its collection, a Surber net was used. In the laboratory, they were classified and identified in class, order and family levels. The specimens were analyzed by calculating the richness (S), abundance (N) and relative abundance (%). A total of 90 individuals belonging to 16 morphospecies were collected. The Hemiptera order with the Veliidae family was the most abundant, encompassing most of the organisms collected 33.33%. The less represented group was the order Diptera with the family Tipulidae with 1.52% of the individuals collected. The water quality was Moderate for the river Sardinas (BMWP/Col 59) and Good for the La Delicia stream (BMWP/Col 75). The present study characterized the community of macroinvertebrates in the study area and the ecological quality of the studied bodies of water., Universidad Tecnologica Equinoccial, Community Relations Project: Comprehensive Intervention in Environmental Management and Natural Hazards in the Pacto Parish. The aim of the study was to analyze the diversity and community structure of aquatic insects associated with species of submersed macrophytes with different morphological complexity in relation to leaf structure. Sampling occurred in raining and dry periods at Ribeirão das Anhumas, Américo Brasiliense/SP. Four macrophytes were analyzed: Vallisneria sp., Eleocharis sp., Egeria najas and Ottelia sp. The entomological community was identified up to the family level, and at tribe level for Chironomidae. The community structure was analyzed using diversity indices of Simpson, Equitability evenness, relative participation of functional category and taxa dominance. The dispersion of faunal composition between the different collection periods was analyzed using a n-MDS with Morisita index. The structure of the insect community associated with macrophytes with different structural morphologies was analyzed using structural similarity calculated by the Bray-Curtis index. Seventeen families were identified from five orders, a total of 1642 specimens. The family Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera) presented eudominance (52.6%), followed by the tribe Pentaneurini (Chironomidae) (13.8%) and family Trichoryithidae (Ephemeroptera) (10%). The results showed that there were no large diversity variations in the analyzed macrophyte species and the sampling periods. The predator and collector functional groups were predominant. The n-MDS analysis indicated the absence of seasonal variation and, the similarity analysis indicated that macrophyte E. najas and Otellia sp., presented similar fauna structure, differing from other analyzed species. The results demonstrated that the morphological structure of macrophytes may have different structures of aquatic insect communities.

The aquatic entomofauna of four streams of the San Juan river in the department of Chocó (Colombia) was studied. Between February and July 2007, 2,377 specimens belonging to nine orders, 35 families and 52 genera were collected. The order Ephemeroptera was the most representative in terms of abundance (61.09%) and biological richness (11 genera), followed by the order Coleoptera (13.38%). A Shannon-Weaver diversity index of 2.95 and the total number of genera found in the streams showed their high diversity; we found significant differences between them, but not between sampling months. According to the Jaccard index based on the presence of different identified genera, we observed that the Profundo and Colorado streams had high similarity (0.65), while the highest value of dissimilarity was found in the San Francisco stream (0.48). The physical and chemical parameters were within normal ranges and showed little variation, indicating that the streams have good ecological conditions for the establishment of a diverse aquatic community.

This work aimed ato research the distribution of insects associated with aquatic macrophytes and the similarity among collection sites during the reflux period in a stretch of Correntoso river, Pantanal do Negro, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The collection sites were determined by changes in the riparian formation structure, characterized as open when there is communication with flooded fields and intermediary and closed when there is not any communication with flooded fields. Three collections were taken at six sample sites, during reflux periods. The organisms were collected using a D net, 300 µm mesh, with samples from five nets thrown in roots of aquatic macrophytes. Family richness, absolute and relative abundance of the insects found, and similarity of collection sites were analyzed using Euclidian distance and complete connection, Shannon-Wiener diversity index, with log2. Sixty-four families from 10 orders of Hexapoda class were registered, totaling 2,525 individuals – 2,405 of them aquatic and semi- aquatic, and 120 terrestrial. The collect sites did not present a fixed model of similarity, and the formation of groups occurred in distinct forms at each collection.

Research on aquatic insects in Brazil has increased in the last years. However, gaps exist on the knowledge relating their association with aquatic macrophytes. The objective of this work was to assess the composition and abundance of the entomofauna associated with macrophytes occurring at Ribeirão das Anhumas reservoir (Américo Brasiliense, São Paulo, Brazil), to evaluate the insects functional trophic levels, to compare the faunistic similarities between sampling periods and between macrophytes through PSC analyzes (similarity) and PCA (Principal Components Analysis), besides establishing the relation between macrophytes wet/dry weight and its associated fauna. We identified 1173 specimens belonging to 26 families distributed in seven orders. The macrophytes support a community predominantly represented for collectors insects (62% of its fauna) followed by predators (31%). The PCA analyses also indicated that different collection periods did not influence the faunistic structure; however this analysis indicated spatial segregation between some macrophytes, with a probable existence of a relation between macrophytes space complexity and associated fauna diversity. The analysis of plants dry weight biomass didn't indicate direct relation with insect abundance.
