OBJECTIVES: This study sought to capture current digital health company experiences integrating with electronic health records (EHRs), given new federally regulated standards-based application programming interface (API) policies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed and fielded a survey among companies that develop solutions enabling human interaction with an EHR API. The survey was developed by the University of California San Francisco in collaboration with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the California Health Care Foundation, and ScaleHealth. The instrument contained questions pertaining to experiences with API integrations, barriers faced during API integrations, and API-relevant policy efforts. RESULTS: About 73% of companies reported current or previous use of a standards-based EHR API in production. About 57% of respondents indicated using both standards-based and proprietary APIs to integrate with an EHR, and 24% worked about equally with both APIs. Most companies reported use of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources standard. Companies reported that standards-based APIs required on average less burden than proprietary APIs to establish and maintain. However, companies face barriers to adopting standards-based APIs, including high fees, lack of realistic clinical testing data, and lack of data elements of interest or value. DISCUSSION: The industry is moving toward the use of standardized APIs to streamline data exchange, with a majority of digital health companies using standards-based APIs to integrate with EHRs. However, barriers persist. CONCLUSION: A large portion of digital health companies use standards-based APIs to interoperate with EHRs. Continuing to improve the resources for digital health companies to find, test, connect, and use these APIs without special effort will be crucial to ensure future technology robustness and durability.

Reports produced by popular malware analysis services showed a disparity in samples available for different malware families. The unequal distribution between such classes can be attributed to several factors, such as technological advances and the application domain that seeks to infect a computer virus. Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of deep learning (DL) algorithms when learning multi-class classification tasks using imbalanced datasets. This can be achieved by updating the learning function such that correct and incorrect predictions performed on the minority class are more rewarded or penalized, respectively. This procedure can be logically implemented by leveraging the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) paradigm through a proper formulation of the Markov decision process (MDP). This paper proposes SINNER, i.e., a DRL-based multi-class classifier that approaches the data imbalance problem at the algorithmic level by exploiting a redesigned reward function, which modifies the traditional MDP model used to learn this task. Based on the experimental results, the proposed formula appears to be successful. In addition, SINNER has been compared to several DL-based models that can handle class skew without relying on data-level techniques. Classification with costly features (CwCF) is a classification problem that includes the cost of features in the optimization criteria. Individually for each sample, its features are sequentially acquired to maximize accuracy while minimizing the acquired features' cost. However, existing approaches can only process data that can be expressed as vectors of fixed length. In real life, the data often possesses rich and complex structure, which can be more precisely described with formats such as XML or JSON. The data is hierarchical and often contains nested lists of objects. In this work, we extend an existing deep reinforcement learning-based algorithm with hierarchical deep sets and hierarchical softmax, so that it can directly process this data. The extended method has greater control over which features it can acquire and, in experiments with seven datasets, we show that this leads to superior performance. Abstract Accurate measurement of abdominal aortic aneurysm is essential for selecting suitable stent-grafts to avoid complications of endovascular aneurysm repair. However, the conventional image-based measurements are inaccurate and time-consuming. Post-Partum Depression (PPD) is a significant medical condition that occurs in some women after childbirth as a consequence of physiological behavioral and mental alterations. The complicated symptoms of this condition make it difficult to diagnose and differentiate from other conditions. Timely detection and diagnosis of PPD are crucial for controlling morality rates and ensuring effective treatment. Various Machine Learning (ML) models was developed to predict PPD based on the patients demographic status, mental health history and vital signs. But, additional psychological attributes are needed for predicting mental status and identifying individuals with PPD risk. Also, cost-effective and innovative methods are needed to identify individuals with PPD and detect potential development tendencies. Hence, in this paper, Osprey Parameter Optimized MLP (OPOMLP) is developed to address the above issues for efficient PPD. Initially, the Application Programming Interface (API) function of online social network like Twitter (tweets) and Instagram (comments) are used to collect the data posted by health care professionals. Then, Natural Language Processing (NLP) is utilized to pre-process the collected data \and extract relevant text of Twitter users to estimate PPD phases. The additional psychological attributes like mental health and behavioural changes attributes of women are extracted using Linguistic Inquiry Word Count (LIWC) and Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) methods. Next, MLP network is trained using the extracted attributes along with the attributes of demographic status, mental health history and vital signs. Since, the parameters of MLP were not optimized properly which leads to computational complexities in the PPD prediction. So, the weights initialization and the hyper-parameters of MLP is optimized simultaneously by using an Osprey Optimization Algorithm (OOA). OOA is a metaheuristic optimization algorithm derived from osprey bird hunting behavior which aims to find the global optimum solutions and reduces the complex optimization issues. The relationship between hyperparameters and classification performance will identify an optimal hyperparameter space regions for optimal classification with less computational time and resources. Finally, the OPOMLP is employed for the final prediction of PPD. Objective This article presents the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)'s approach to automation for public health surveillance using digital quality measures (dQMs) via an open-source tool (NHSNLink) and piloting of this approach using real-world data in a newly established collaborative program (NHSNCoLab). The approach leverages Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) application programming interfaces to improve data collection and reporting for public health and patient safety beginning with common, clinically significant, and preventable patient harms, such as medication-related hypoglycemia, healthcare facility-onset Clostridioides difficile infection, and healthcare-associated venous thromboembolism. Conclusions The NHSN's FHIR dQMs hold the promise of minimizing the burden of reporting, improving accuracy, quality, and validity of data collected by NHSN, and increasing speed and efficiency of public health surveillance. After the experience of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become evident that efficient and secure interoperability of medical information is crucial for effective diagnoses and medical treatments. However, a significant challenge arises concerning the heterogeneity of the systems storing patient information in medical centers or hospitals. Memory management becomes a pivotal element for the effective operation of the proposed API, as it must seamlessly execute across various devices, ranging from healthcare units, such as mobile phones, to servers in cloud computing. This proposal addresses these issues through techniques designed to enhance the performance of the software architecture in creating a medical interoperability API. This API has the capacity to be cloned and distributed to facilitate the exchange of data related to a patient's medical history. To tackle heterogeneity, efficient memory management was implemented by utilizing an object-oriented approach and leveraging design patterns like abstract factory and wrapper. Regarding the evaluation of the proposal, this study showed an estimated performance of 94.5 percent, which was indirectly demonstrated through the assessment of operation sequences. The segmentation time between the manual and AL-corrected segmentation using the best model (3D U-Net) was reduced to 9.51 ± 1.02, 2.09 ± 1.06, 1.07 ± 1.10, and 1.07 ± 0.97 min for the aorta, thrombus, calcification, and vessels, respectively (p < 0.001). All measurement and tortuosity ratio measured − 1.71 ± 6.53 mm and − 0.15 ± 0.25. The overall clinical ability of the AI has been evaluated by its ability to answer a text-based national medical examination. This study uniquely assesses the performance of Open AI's ChatGPT against all Japanese National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE), including images, illustrations, and pictures.We obtained the questions of the past six years of the NMLE (112th to 117th) from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website. We converted them to JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format. We created an application programming interface (API) to output correct answers using GPT-4 for questions without images and GPT4-V(ision) or GPT4 console for questions with images.The percentage of image questions was 723/2400 (30.1%) over the past six years. In all years, GPT-4/4V exceeded the minimum score the examinee should score. In total, over the six years, the percentage of correct answers for basic medical knowledge questions was 665/905 (73.5%); for clinical knowledge questions, 1143/1531 (74.7%); and for image questions 497/723 (68.7%), respectively.Regarding medical knowledge, GPT-4/4V met the minimum criteria regardless of whether the questions included images, illustrations, and pictures. Data curation has significant research implications irrespective of application areas. As most curated studies rely on databases for data extraction, the availability of data resources is extremely important. Taking a perspective from pharmacology, extracted data contribute to improved drug treatment outcomes and well-being but with some challenges. Considering available pharmacology literature, it is necessary to review articles and other scientific documents carefully. A typical method of accessing articles on journal websites is through long-established searches. In addition to being labor-intensive, this conventional approach often leads to incomplete-content downloads. This paper presents a new methodology with user-friendly models to accept search keywords according to the investigators' research fields for metadata and full-text articles. To accomplish this, scientifically published records on the pharmacokinetics of drugs were extracted from several sources using our navigating tool called the Web Crawler for Pharmacokinetics (WCPK). The results of metadata extraction provided 74,867 publications for four drug classes. Full-text extractions performed with WCPK revealed that the system is highly competent, extracting over 97% of records. This model helps establish keyword-based article repositories, contributing to comprehensive databases for article curation projects. This paper also explains the procedures adopted to build the proposed customizable-live WCPK, from system design and development to deployment phases.

Exposure to varied noisy environments impairs the recognition performance of artificial intelligence-based speech recognition technologies. Degradedperformance services can be utilized as limited systems that assure good performance in certain environments, but impair the general quality of speech recognition services. This study introduces an audiovisual speech recognition (AVSR) model robust to various noise settings, mimicking human dialogue recognition elements. The model converts word embeddings and log-Mel spectrograms into feature vectors for audio recognition. A dense spatial–temporal convolutional neural network model extracts features from log-Mel spectrograms, transformed for visual-based recognition. This approach exhibits improved aural and visual recognition capabilities. We assess the signalto-noise ratio in nine synthesized noise environments, with the proposed model exhibiting lower average error rates. The error rate for the AVSR model using a three-feature multi-fusion method is 1.711%, compared to the general 3.939% rate. This model is applicable in noise-affected environments owing to its enhanced stability and recognition rate.

Designing power electronics converters for harsh environments is challenging due to the absence of components' performance under harsh conditions, the frequent transition and data-passing among various software, and the time-consuming and computationally heavy work flow. This paper promotes using design automation to address the aforementioned design challenges. The implementations include public-accessible component databases, automated co-action among circuit simulators and finite element simulations to perform electrical, electromagnetic and thermal co-design, and finally an exclusion-based work flow with hierarchical computation to reduce computational load. The theorized framework is exemplified on designing a real world 175 °C 1.5 kW Three-level Neutral-point-clamped dc-dc converter. A database containing the high-temperature characteristics of SiC MOSFETs and ferrites is established and shared through a web application with graphical user interface. In 310 min, the program, which includes computationally heavy 3D finite element simulation, delivers design output after evaluating the converter's electrical, electromagnetic and thermal performance under 10 million parameter sets. Finally, a 1.5 kW dc-dc converter prototype is built and tested in 175 °C ambient temperature to verify the quality of the design output.

As power distribution systems evolve in complexity and scale, the coordination and control of distributed energy resources (DERs), intelligent devices, and agents become increasingly challenging. Distribution utilities invest in advanced distribution management systems (ADMSs) and distributed energy resource management systems (DERMSs) to enhance distribution systems’ reliability, resiliency, and efficiency. Standardizing the Application Programming Interface (API) for ADMS applications is crucial to accelerate the integration of advanced distribution technologies. This paper introduces a distributed application architecture within the GridAPPS-D platform, aiming to address the limitations of centralized architectures in terms of scalability, maintainability, and flexibility. The proposed architecture draws inspiration from the Laminar Coordination Framework and is validated through extensive stakeholder engagement. Emphasizing extensibility, boundary deference, structural scalability, and securability, the layered framework is well-suited for large-scale distribution networks with diverse grid-edge devices and ownership structures. The contributions of this paper include a distributed layered architecture with defined distributed areas, a Common Information Model (CIM)-based standardized API for developing and deploying distributed applications (Distributed App API), and the design process and reference implementation of distributed services and applications. Based on laminar coordination, the software architecture combines centralized, distributed, and edge-control paradigms for effective distributed operations. The paper concludes with extending the centralized API in GridAPPS-D to distributed APIs for standards-based message exchange, emphasizing the need for scalable communication to coordinate diverse distributed agents. This work provides a foundation for advancing the field of distributed control in power distribution systems, supporting both centralized and distributed analytics and control arrangements.

Marketing scholars increasingly use web scraping and application programming interfaces (APIs) to collect data from the internet. Yet, despite the widespread use of such web data, the idiosyncratic and sometimes insidious challenges in its collection have received limited attention. How can researchers ensure that the data sets generated via web scraping and APIs are valid? While existing resources emphasize technical details of extracting web data, the authors propose a novel methodological framework focused on enhancing its validity. In particular, the framework highlights how addressing validity concerns requires the joint consideration of idiosyncratic technical and legal/ethical questions along the three stages of collecting web data: selecting data sources, designing the data collection, and extracting the data. The authors further review more than 300 articles using web data published in the top five marketing journals and offer a typology of how web data have advanced marketing thought. The article concludes with directions for future research to identify promising web data sources and embrace novel approaches for using web data to capture and describe evolving marketplace realities. Open banking is an emerging and evolving concept, it brings both opportunities and challenges to banks. Despite its anticipated transformative role in changing the financial services landscape and delivering superior value to the customers, the concept has been under-examined in the academic community. This study synthesizes existing research on Open Banking and its emerging role. It employs scientometric technique with underlying statistical analysis tools to review the existing literature in this field. The data from 415 documents was scrutinized for this study. We analysed the existing literature to present to research community the following aspects; the research trends, key themes, related keywords and future research directions. The scientometric analysis revealed aspects related to authors' analysis, source analysis, author co-operation network across countries, keyword analysis and topic modeling. Early and rapid environmental assessment of newly developed aircraft concepts is eminent in today's climate debate. This can shorten the decision-making process and thus accelerate the entry into service of climate-friendly technologies. A holistic approach within the conceptual aircraft design is taken into consideration in terms of a life cycle assessment (LCA) to properly model and evaluate these concepts. To provide an understanding of how different LCA software affects the assessment, the goals of this study are to establish a baseline metrics definition for comparative evaluation and apply them to two tools. The first tool is an existing simplified derivative of openLCA, while the second, developed in this study, is an automated interface to the same software. The main finding is that researchers and practitioners must carefully consider the intended use of the tool. The simplified tool is suitable for training and teaching purposes and assessments on single score level. In contrast, an advanced tool is required in order to appropriately analyze the overall impact categories requiring high levels of LCA expertise, modeling, and time effort. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The automated data quality management system serves as a comprehensive solution developed to enhance the precision, dependability, and uniformity of data within data-driven organizations. Such systems play an important role in eliminating the shortcomings associated with manual data quality management, which is prevalent in health and demographic surveillance systems (HDSS). The ongoing difficulty of ensuring data quality through manual processing hinders the HDSS's capacity to optimize data quality effectively. To address this challenge, our study adopted design science methodologies to provide guidelines for the design and implementation of the automated data quality control system. The open source technologies (Pentaho data integration, R Studio, SQL, Windows task scheduler) were used to facilitate the automation and validation of the incoming and database resident data. The quality of data has vastly improved since the implementation of the proposed system. The findings suggest that the automated data quality control system exhibited superior performance compared to the manual methods, thereby minimizing errors and time-wasting efforts.

Abstract Background The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) provides organized genomic, biomolecular, and metabolic information and knowledge that is reasonably current and highly useful for a wide range of analyses and modeling. KEGG follows the principles of data stewardship to be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) by providing RESTful access to their database entries via their web-accessible KEGG API. However, the overall FAIRness of KEGG is often limited by the library and software package support available in a given programming language. While R library support for KEGG is fairly strong, Python library support has been lacking. Moreover, there is no software that provides extensive command line level support for KEGG access and utilization. Results We present kegg_pull, a package implemented in the Python programming language that provides better KEGG access and utilization functionality than previous libraries and software packages. Not only does kegg_pull include an application programming interface (API) for Python programming, it also provides a command line interface (CLI) that enables utilization of KEGG for a wide range of shell scripting and data analysis pipeline use-cases. As kegg_pull’s name implies, both the API and CLI provide versatile options for pulling (downloading and saving) an arbitrary (user defined) number of database entries from the KEGG API. Moreover, this functionality is implemented to efficiently utilize multiple central processing unit cores as demonstrated in several performance tests. Many options are provided to optimize fault-tolerant performance across a single or multiple processes, with recommendations provided based on extensive testing and practical network considerations. Conclusions The new kegg_pull package enables new flexible KEGG retrieval use cases not available in previous software packages. The most notable new feature that kegg_pull provides is its ability to robustly pull an arbitrary number of KEGG entries with a single API method or CLI command, including pulling an entire KEGG database. We provide recommendations to users for the most effective use of kegg_pull according to their network and computational circumstances.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), it is foreseeable that the accuracy and efficiency of dynamic analysis for future power system will be greatly improved by the integration of dynamic simulators and AI. To explore the interaction mechanism of power system dynamic simulations and AI, a general design for AI-oriented power system dynamic simulators is proposed, which consists of a high-performance simulator with neural network supportability and flexible external and internal application programming interfaces (APIs). With the support of APIs, simulation-assisted AI and AI-assisted simulation form a comprehensive interaction mechanism between power system dynamic simulations and AI. A prototype of this design is implemented and made public based on a highly efficient electromechanical simulator. Tests of this prototype are carried out in four scenarios including sample generation, AI-based stability prediction, data-driven dynamic component modeling, and AI-aided stability control, which prove the validity, flexibility, and efficiency of the design and implementation for AI-oriented power system dynamic simulators.

BackgroundReferring patients to specialty care is an inefficient and error-prone process. Gaps in the referral process lead to delays in patients' access to care, negative patient experience, worse health outcomes, and increased operational costs. While implementation of standards-based electronic referral options can alleviate some of these inefficiencies, many referrals to tertiary and quaternary care centers continue to be sent via fax.ObjectiveWe describe the design process and architecture for a software application that has been developed and deployed to optimize the referrals intake process by automating the processing and digitization of incoming specialty referral faxes, extracting key data elements and integrating them into the electronic health record (EHR), and organizing referrals.MethodsA human-centered design approach was used to identify and describe the inefficiencies in the external referral process at our large, urban tertiary care center. Referrals Automation, an application to convert referral faxes to digital referrals in the EHR, was conceptualized based on key stakeholder interviews and time and motion studies. This application was designed using Substitutable Medical Applications and Reusable Technologies (SMART) and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) platforms to allow for adaptability into other healthcare organizations.ResultsReferrals Automation software was developed as a healthcare information technology solution to streamline the fax to referral process. The application was implemented into several specialty clinics. Metrics were built-in to the applications to evaluate and guide the further iteration of these features.ConclusionsReferrals Automation will enhance the referrals process by further streamlining and organizing the patient referral process.

Early and rapid environmental assessment of newly developed aircraft concepts is eminent in today’s climate debate. This can shorten the decision-making process and thus accelerate the entry into service of climate-friendly technologies. A holistic approach within the conceptual aircraft design is taken into consideration in terms of a life cycle assessment (LCA) to properly model and evaluate these concepts. To provide an understanding of how different LCA software affects the assessment, the goals of this study are to establish a baseline metrics definition for comparative evaluation and apply them to two tools. The first tool is an existing simplified derivative of openLCA, while the second, developed in this study, is an automated interface to the same software. The main finding is that researchers and practitioners must carefully consider the intended use of the tool. The simplified tool is suitable for training and teaching purposes and assessments on single score level. In contrast, an advanced tool is required in order to appropriately analyze the overall impact categories requiring high levels of LCA expertise, modeling, and time effort.

While many firms in recent years have started to offer public Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), firms struggle with shaping digital platform strategies that align API design with aspired business goals and the demands of external developers. We address the lack of theory that explains the performance impacts of three API archetypes (professional, mediation, and open asset services). We couple survey data from 152 API product managers with manually coded API design classifications. With this data, we conduct cluster and regression analyses that reveal moderating effects of two value creation strategies (economies of scope in production and innovation) on the relationships between API archetype similarity and two API performance outcomes: return on investment and diffusion. We contribute to IS literature by developing a unifying theory that consolidates different theoretical perspectives on API design, by extending current knowledge on the performance effects of API design, and by empirically studying the distinct circumstances under which digital platforms facilitate economies of scope in production or in innovation. The positive effect of healthcare facilities on residents’ health has been extensively studied. However, few studies have focused on the role of rehabilitation services as unique healthcare services for persons with disabilities. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the spatial accessibility of rehabilitation facilities and the degree of disability. To this end, an approach of measuring the spatial accessibility of rehabilitation facilities to persons with disabilities was proposed. This approach integrates multiple key elements including the characteristics of facilities (i.e., the capacity, frequency of use and service radius), characteristics of the mobility of persons with disabilities (i.e., the mode of travel, escort support, transportation fee and barrier-free environment requirements) and travel time obtained from a routing application programme interface. The accessibility of rehabilitation facilities was calculated at the neighbourhood level within the Central Urban Area of Tianjin Municipality. The ordinal logistic regression analysis revealed that higher accessibility to rehabilitation facilities generally corresponded to lower severity of disability. However, the impact varied depending on the type of disability. Increased accessibility was associated with greater severity of intellectual disability, whereas it was linked to reduced severity of visual, hearing, limb, mental and speech disabilities. It is suggested to incorporate disability diversity and the accessibility of rehabilitation facilities into spatial planning and governance.

An improved and easy-to-implement HFSSMATLAB interface is presented. Because the interface is realized without the use of VBA scripts, it is easier to implement for beginners and practitioners. This advantage allows more dissemination of the code in the HFSS community. The interface is applied to the numerical design of a patch antenna, showing the capabilities it enables. The Australian dryland grain-cropping landscape occupies 60 Mha. The broader agricultural sector (farmers and agronomic advisors, grain handlers, commodity forecasters, input suppliers, insurance providers) required information at many spatial and temporal scales. Temporal scales included hindcasts, nowcasts and forecasts, at spatial scales ranging from sub-field to the continent. International crop-monitoring systems could not service the need of local industry for digital information on crop production estimates. Therefore, we combined a broad suite of satellite-based crop-mapping, crop-modelling and data-delivery techniques to create an integrated analytics system (Graincast™) that covers the Australian cropping landscape. In parallel with technical developments, a set of user requirements was identified through a human-centred design process, resulting in an end-product that delivered a viable crop-monitoring service to industry. This integrated analytics solution can now produce crop information at scale and on demand and can deliver the output via an application programming interface. The technology was designed to underpin digital agriculture developments for Australia. End-users are now using crop-monitoring data for operational purposes, and we argue that a vertically integrated data supply chain is required to develop crop-monitoring technology further. The Graincast™ suite of tools was developed to monitor crop productivity in near real-time across the Australian landscape. Four separate tools were created: the C-Crop model, which monitors crop yields with satellite; CropID, which monitors the crop species and areas of production; the Graincast™ app, which provides field-scale estimates of crop production and soil-water use; and Field Boundaries (ePaddocks), which identifies every cropped field across the landscape. Sensors and smart equipment are frequently used in biomechanical systems and applications in sports and rehabilitation to measure various physical quantities. Various sensors, measuring different parameters, can produce a large amount of data at high speeds and volumes that must be stored for real-time or post-processing and analysis. In addition to sensor data, metadata is an important component and can vary between biomechanical applications. Currently however, each application typically has its own unique data flow and storage solution. In this research, we present a universal data model solution that can be applied to any sensor-based biomechanical application in sport and physical rehabilitation. Our proposed cloud platform architecture allows for the manipulation of sensor data and metadata using a combination of Big Data and conventional techniques. The main idea of this research is to develop a platform that allows a universal way for any biomechanical application to handle its data regardless of the type of data and metadata. This is achieved by creating a universal data model, and implementing this data model in a generalized architecture using a graph database. We demonstrate the benefits of this approach using examples from existing biomechanical systems and describe the development of the cloud platform architecture and the underlying data model. We also provide an example of the use of this platform in a sport shooting application. This approach is unique in that it allows data from different sources and applications to be stored and processed using the same procedures and techniques, facilitating data analysis and application development. We envision this system will expand to multiple different biomechanical applications in the future. We expect that in time, the ability to compare various data and store different biomechanical datasets will become necessity. With the advantages of modern recommender systems and utilization of artificial intelligence, huge amounts of relevant and well-prepared data with useful metadata are required thus having such system is an important advantage for future biomechanical systems development. With the increase of people's awareness and usage of devices that increase well-being and quality of life, presented platform and similar systems will play a pivotal role in shaping the future lifestyle.
