We performed a measurement of the inclusive missing-mass spectrum of the |$^{12}$| C |$(K^-, K^+)$| reaction at an incident beam momentum of 1.8 GeV/ c. This measurement was carried out by using the Superconducting Kaon Spectrometer (SKS) and the K1.8 beamline spectrometer at the Hadron Experimental Facility in J-PARC. From the missing-mass of the |$^{12}$| C |$(K^-, K^+)$| reaction, the binding energy of a |$\Xi ^-$| hyperon in a core |$^{11}$| B nucleus, |$B_{\Xi ^-}$| , can be calculated. Our experimental setup yielded a good energy resolution of 8.2 MeV (full width at half maximum), which allowed us to observe significant enhancements in the proximity of the |$^{12}_{\Xi }$| Be production threshold region. In order to extract information from the missing-mass spectrum, we employed several fitting parameters assumptions. A good agreement with the spectrum shape was obtained by adding two Gaussian functions, with the constant experimental resolution for the |$\Xi$| -hypernuclear states, to the background distribution. The peak positions were obtained to be |$B_{\Xi ^-} = 8.9 \pm 1.4$| (stat.) |$^{+3.8}_{-3.1}$| (syst.) MeV and |$B_{\Xi ^-} = -2.4 \pm 1.3$| (stat.) |$^{+2.8}_{-1.2}$| (syst.) MeV. Another model assumption, one Breit–Wigner function with |$B_{\Xi ^-} = -2.7 \pm 2.2$| (stat.) |$^{+0.5}_{-0.7}$| (syst.) MeV and |$\Gamma = 4.1 \pm 2.1$| (stat.) |$^{+1.2}_{-0.7}$| (syst.) In the K1.8 beam-line at Hadron Experimental Facility of J-PARC, a new magnetic spectrometer S-2S is being installed. S-2S was designed to achieve a high momentum resolution of Δp/p = 6 × 10−4 in FWHM. Several strangeness-physics programs which require the high resolution will be realized by S-2S. The present article introduces J-PARC E70 (missing-mass spectroscopy of Ξ12Be) and E94 (missing-mass spectroscopy of Λ7Li, Λ10B, and Λ12C) experiments.

9. Hölzel Circle as the Proto-Bauhaus : the Situation in the Stuttgart Academy and the Concept Brought to the Bauhaus

Theme I : Design Education before the Bauhaus, In the very year of Bauhaus’ set-up, an artist left an academy: Adolf Hölzel (1853-1934) who was born in Austria, studied in Munich, worked in the artists’ colony in Dachau and was invited to the academy in Stuttgart in 1905. Even though the name of the artist is not well known now, Johannes Itten (1888-1967) who developed basic color theory in the field of art education, was one of Hölzel’s students and named the artist alongside Goethe and Chevreul in his book Art of Color. Itten’s theories and practices taught in the Bauhaus “preliminary course,” in fact, owed much to Hölzel’s teaching, and herein lies the direct relationship between Hölzel and the Bauhaus. However, Hölzel’s indirect contribution to the Bauhaus was much more fundamental. Not only did Itten bring Hölzel’s ideas to the Bauhaus but Oskar Schlemmer (1888–1943), a master of the Bauhaus theater workshop, had also been Hölzel’s student at the Stuttgart Academy with some other Bauhaus students involved. Hölzel attracted many eager students who consequently formed a group called “Hölzel Circle.” This paper first looks at the situation at the academy just before Hölzel’s appointment. The academy and applied art school had a close relationship and there was a perspective to unite art and applied art in the background. It is noteworthy that Bernhard Pankok (1872-1943) was appointed to Königliche Lehr- und Versuchswerkstätte [the Royal Teaching and Experimental Workshop] in Stuttgart in 1901 and engaged in the reorganization of the academies. The situation in Stuttgart at that time had a similar vision to the Bauhaus. After this introduction, Hölzel’s theory, which was almost complete before his appointment, is discussed on the basis of his published writings, in which some fragments of the Bauhaus education can be seen. Itten’s concepts of contrast and his analysis of the Old Masters, for example, rose out of Hölzel’s methods. After Hölzel’s appointment, it took some time for the Circle to arise. But in his first ten years, there were chances for the Circle to work as a group. The name “Hölzel Circle” was coined as the name of the group exhibition in 1916. Finally, Hölzel’s color theory is discussed to clarify the indirect but fundamental relationships between his ideas and the Bauhaus: the ideas of harmony and totality. This discussion aims to position Hölzel and his circle in the context of the Bauhaus.

We have measured, for the first time, the inclusive missing-mass spectrum of the |$^{12}$| C |$(K^-, p)$| reaction at an incident kaon momentum of 1.8 GeV/ |$c$| at the J-PARC K1.8 beamline. We observed a prominent quasi-elastic peak (|$K^-p \rightarrow K^-p$|) in this spectrum. In the quasi-elastic peak region, the effect of secondary interaction is apparently observed as a peak shift, and the peak exhibits a tail in the bound region. We compared the spectrum with a theoretical calculation based on the Green's function method by assuming different values of the parameters for the |$\bar{K}$| –nucleus optical potential. We found that the spectrum shape in the binding-energy region |$-300 \, \text{MeV} < B_{K} < 40$| MeV is best reproduced with the potential depths |$V_0 = -80$| MeV (real part) and |$W_0 = -40$| MeV (imaginary part). On the other hand, we observed a significant event excess in the deeply bound region around |$B_{K} \sim 100$| MeV, where the major decay channel of |$K^- NN \to \pi\Sigma N$| is energetically closed, and the non-mesonic decay modes (|$K^- NN \to \Lambda N$| and |$\Sigma N$|) should mainly contribute. The enhancement is fitted well by a Breit–Wigner function with a kaon-binding energy of 90 MeV and width 100 MeV. A possible interpretation is a deeply bound state of a |$Y^{*}$| -nucleus system. Theme I : Design Education before the Bauhaus, In the very year of Bauhaus’ set-up, an artist left an academy: Adolf Hölzel (1853-1934) who was born in Austria, studied in Munich, worked in the artists’ colony in Dachau and was invited to the academy in Stuttgart in 1905. Even though the name of the artist is not well known now, Johannes Itten (1888-1967) who developed basic color theory in the field of art education, was one of Hölzel’s students and named the artist alongside Goethe and Chevreul in his book Art of Color. Itten’s theories and practices taught in the Bauhaus “preliminary course,” in fact, owed much to Hölzel’s teaching, and herein lies the direct relationship between Hölzel and the Bauhaus. However, Hölzel’s indirect contribution to the Bauhaus was much more fundamental. Not only did Itten bring Hölzel’s ideas to the Bauhaus but Oskar Schlemmer (1888–1943), a master of the Bauhaus theater workshop, had also been Hölzel’s student at the Stuttgart Academy with some other Bauhaus students involved. Hölzel attracted many eager students who consequently formed a group called “Hölzel Circle.” This paper first looks at the situation at the academy just before Hölzel’s appointment. The academy and applied art school had a close relationship and there was a perspective to unite art and applied art in the background. It is noteworthy that Bernhard Pankok (1872-1943) was appointed to Königliche Lehr- und Versuchswerkstätte [the Royal Teaching and Experimental Workshop] in Stuttgart in 1901 and engaged in the reorganization of the academies. The situation in Stuttgart at that time had a similar vision to the Bauhaus. After this introduction, Hölzel’s theory, which was almost complete before his appointment, is discussed on the basis of his published writings, in which some fragments of the Bauhaus education can be seen. Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) often have constipation. It is assumed that a disorder of the regulatory mechanism of colorectal motility by the central nervous system is involved in the constipation, but this remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate whether central neural pathways can modulate colorectal motility in a rat model of PD. PD model rats were generated by injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into a unilateral medial forebrain bundle and destruction of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Colorectal motility was measured in vivo in anesthetized rats. Intraluminal administration of capsaicin, as a noxious stimulus, induced colorectal motility in sham-operated rats but not in PD rats. Intrathecally administered dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT), which mediate the prokinetic effect of capsaicin, at the L6-S1 levels enhanced colorectal motility in PD rats similarly to that in sham-operated rats. In PD rats, capsaicin enhanced colorectal motility only when a GABA
A receptor antagonist was preadministered into the lumbosacral spinal cord. Capsaicin-induced colorectal motility was abolished by intrathecal administration of a D2-like receptor antagonist but not by administration of 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. These findings demonstrate that the inhibitory GABAergic component becomes operative and the stimulatory serotonergic component is suppressed in PD rats. The alteration of the central regulatory mechanism of colorectal motility is thought to be related to the occurrence of constipation in PD patients. Our findings provide a new insight into the pathogenesis of defecation disorders observed in PD. NEW & NOTEWORTHY In a rat model of Parkinson's disease, the component of descending brain-spinal pathways that regulate colorectal motility through a mediation of the lumbosacral defecation center was altered from stimulatory serotonergic neurons to inhibitory GABAergic neurons. Our findings suggest that chronic constipation in Parkinson's disease patients may be associated with alterations in central regulatory mechanisms of colorectal motility. The plasticity in the descending pathway regulating colorectal motility may contribute to other disease-related defecation abnormalities.- Published

Therefore, it is necessary that the medical laboratory provide the doctor and the patient receiving medical care with accurate, precise, and reliable medical laboratory data. Quality assurance and safety management in the medical laboratory are necessary to prevent medical test malpractice, which would lead to a medical accident, and to manage the overall processes required to provide high quality medical laboratory data. ISO 15189 is an international standard known as an organizational management tool for medical laboratories. Our medical laboratory acquired this ISO in March 2005 and we utilized PDCA cycle as required by the international standard in order to establish appropriate safety management and crisis control. We introduced practices for quality improvement and prevention of medical test malpractice proposed by the ISO committee of our medical laboratory and describe these practices in this report.
