Background: People living with HIV often face challenges related to quality of life, mental health, and social support. Nurse-led self-care interventions have been proposed as a means to address these issues, but their overall effectiveness needs systematic evaluation., Objectives: To systematically review and meta-analyze the effectiveness of nurse-led self-care interventions on quality of life, social support, depression, and anxiety among people living with HIV., Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials., Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science (Core Collection), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, and PsycINFO (Ovid) was conducted for articles from inception to May 2024. Two authors independently screened studies and extracted data. Randomized controlled trials that investigated the effects of nurse-led self-care interventions on the quality of life, social support, depression, and anxiety in people living with HIV, published in English, were included. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. Meta-analyses were conducted using Review Manager 5.3 and Stata17, and the certainty of evidence was rated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach., Results: Nineteen randomized controlled trials published between 2003 and 2024 were included. The meta-analysis showed that compared to the control group, nurse-led self-care interventions significantly improved quality of life (SMD = 0.45, 95 % CI: 0.07 to 0.84, P < 0.05) and reduced depression (SMD = -0.46, 95 % CI: -0.75 to -0.17, P < 0.001; RR = 0.80, 95 % CI: 0.68 to 0.94, P < 0.05). The impact on social support was not statistically significant (SMD = -0.02, 95 % CI: -0.25 to 0.22, P = 0.89). Only two studies reported beneficial effects on anxiety, indicating a need for further high-quality research., Conclusion: Nurse-led self-care interventions effectively improve the quality of life and reduce depression in people living with HIV, but current evidence shows these interventions have little impact on social support. The evidence regarding anxiety is limited, indicating a need for more rigorous research to explore the potential benefits of these interventions for anxiety in people living with HIV. Aim: To assess the agreement between patients' self-reported degree-of-worry (DOW) and nurses' evaluation of patients' DOW., Design: An observational cohort study with patients and their primary nurses., Methods: Between 22 February and 27 March 2021, data collection among patients and their nurses in an emergency department was carried out. Patients ≥18 years, cognitively intact and Danish or English speaking were eligible to participate. Nurses regardless of seniority and gender were eligible for participation. The single-item degree-of-worry measure, 'how worried are you about the condition you are here today on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is minimally worried and 10 is maximum worried' as well as information on gender, age, co-morbidity, triage level and medical reason for encounter was collected from patients. The corresponding nurses were asked; 'how worried do you think your patient is about the condition he/she is there today on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is minimally worried and 10 is maximum worried?' Nurses also supplied data on gender, age, seniority as a Registered Nurse and in the ED. Agreement between patients' self-reported degree-of-worry and nurses' evaluation of patients' degree-of-worry was assessed with weighted Cohen's Kappa., Results: A total of 194 patient-nurse pairs were included for analysis. The agreement between patients' DOW and nurses' evaluation of patients' DOW categorised as DOW low , DOW middle and DOW high was in total agreement in n = 85 pairs (43.8%) of the ratings, which corresponds to a weighted Cohen's Kappa of 0.19 (0.08-0.30; p < 0.001)., Conclusion: Nurses estimate of their patients' DOW was in very poor agreement. This indicates that nurses are not able to assess the patient's DOW to a satisfactory level. Objective: To explore the effect of continuous psychological nursing based on the grey clustering algorithm on erectile function, bad psychological emotion, and complications in patients after transurethral resection of prostate (TURP)., Methods: 98 patients who underwent TURP were randomly divided into observation and control groups (routine nursing). The observation group first used the grey clustering algorithm to evaluate the psychological intelligence, found patients with abnormal psychological behavior, and then implemented continuous psychological nursing combined with pelvic floor muscle exercise. The patients were followed up for 4 months. The International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5), the incidence of complications, the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) scores, and the nursing satisfaction were analyzed and compared between these two groups., Results: The grey clustering algorithm can accurately reflect the characteristics of patients' psychological changes. After targeted nursing, compared with the control group, the IIEF-5 in the observation group was higher [(24.87 ± 1.85) vs. (22.24 ± 1.47), P < 0.05], the incidence of total complications was lower (10.20% vs. 26.53%, P < 0.05), the score of HAMA was lower [(6.11 ± 2.57) vs. (10.98 ± 2.29), P < 0.05], the score of HAMD was lower [(6.97 ± 2.85) vs. (11.35 ± 2.19), P < 0.05], and the nursing satisfaction was higher (100% vs. 85.71%, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Mental intelligence evaluation based on the grey clustering algorithm combined with pelvic floor muscle exercise can significantly improve the rehabilitation effect of erectile function in patients after TURP, reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, and alleviate patients' anxiety and depression., Competing Interests: All authors declare no conflicts of interest in this paper., (Copyright © 2022 Peiting Lu and Cuiyun Wu.)

Importance: Guidelines recommend early specialty palliative care for all patients with advanced cancer, but most patients lack access to such services., Objective: To assess the effect of CONNECT (Care Management by Oncology Nurses to Address Supportive Care Needs), a primary palliative care intervention delivered by oncology nurses, on patient outcomes., Design, Setting, and Participants: This cluster randomized clinical trial of the CONNECT intervention vs standard care was conducted from July 25, 2016, to October 6, 2020. Participants were adult patients with metastatic solid tumors who were undergoing oncological care and for whom an oncologist would agree with the statement "would not be surprised if the patient died in the next year." The trial was conducted at 17 community oncology practices in western Pennsylvania. Data analyses adhered to the intention-to-treat principle., Interventions: The CONNECT intervention included 3 monthly visits with an existing infusion room nurse who was trained to address symptoms, provide emotional support, engage in advance care planning, and coordinate care., Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was quality of life. At baseline and 3 months, participants completed assessments of quality of life (Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Palliative care: score range, 0-184, with higher scores indicating better quality of life), symptom burden (Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale: score range, 0-90, with higher scores indicating greater symptom burden), and mood symptoms (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HADS]: score range, 0-21, with higher scores indicating substantial anxiety and depression). Linear mixed-effects models were used to estimate adjusted mean differences in 3-month outcomes. Preplanned, intensity-adjusted analyses were conducted., Results: A total of 672 patients were enrolled (mean [SD] age, 69.3 [10.2] years; 360 women [53.6%]). The mean (SD) number of CONNECT visits completed was 2.2 (1.0). At 3 months, no difference in mean (SD) quality-of-life score was found between the CONNECT and standard care groups (130.7 [28.2] vs 134.1 [28.1]; adjusted mean difference, 1.20; 95% CI, -2.75 to 5.15; P = .55). Similarly, there was no difference between groups in 3-month mean (SD) symptom burden (23.2 [16.6] vs 24.0 [16.1]; adjusted mean difference, -2.64; 95% CI, -5.85 to 0.58; P = .11) or mood symptoms (HADS depression subscale score: 5.1 [3.4] vs 4.8 [3.7], adjusted mean difference, -0.08 [95% CI, -0.71 to 0.57], P = .82; HADS anxiety subscale score: 5.7 [3.9] vs 5.4 [4.2], adjusted mean difference, -0.31 [95% CI, -0.96 to 0.33], P = .34). Intensity-adjusted analyses revealed a larger estimated treatment effect for patients who received a full dose (3 visits) of the CONNECT intervention., Conclusions and Relevance: This cluster randomized clinical trial found that a primary palliative care intervention that was delivered by oncology nurses did not improve patient-reported outcomes at 3 months. Abstract: The aim of the present study is to investigate effect nursing intervention on anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy among elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome after percutaneous coronary intervention, and the correlation between patients' anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy and nursing intervention.One hundred thirty six patients with acute coronary intervention were randomly divided into the experimental group (n = 68) and the control group (n = 68). The experimental group received nursing intervention measures, and control group received routine nursing. We measured the depression, anxiety score of the 2 groups before and after nursing and multiple regressions was to analysis the correlation between patients' anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy and nursing intervention.The nursing intervention effect of the 2 groups after intervention were improved before intervention (P < .05), and the Hospital Anxiety and depression scale (HADS) in the was decreased than that of the control group after psychological intervention. The general self-efficacy scale scores of experimental group were obviously improved after receiving the intervention, and the scores in the experimental group were much higher than the control group after receiving the intervention, namely (P < .05). Furthermore, Single regression analysis showed that single (Marital status) (r = 0.367, P < .001), divorced or separated (Marital status) (r = 0.338, P < .001), Widowed (Marital status) (r = 0.458, P < .001), nursing intervention (r = 0.431, P < .001) and Length of hospital stay (r = 0.276, P = .003) showed a significant correlation with patients' anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy. Multiple regression analysis showed that Length of hospital stay (P = .001) and nursing intervention (P < .001) were significantly correlated with patients' anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy.Nursing intervention maybe significantly improve patients' anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy, and nursing intervention was significantly correlated with patients' anxiety, psychology and self-efficacy. Purpose: To determine the impact of music on the physiologic and psychological stress experienced by hospital inpatients., Methods: This pilot study monitored vital signs; utilized pain, anxiety, and agitation rating scales; and gathered verbal feedback from 50 participating inpatients at the authors' healthcare facility as they listened to music via an audiovisual interactive patient engagement technology system., Results: After listening to music for 30 minutes, patients reported significantly lower pain and anxiety., Conclusion: Music offered a helpful tool to reduce pain and anxiety for patients in the ICU and telemetry units at the authors' healthcare facility. Background: Threatened preterm labor is a common problem that causes women to be hospitalized. During this period, physical problems such as a decrease in muscle functions, edema and pain, and psychological problems such as anxiety and stress may develop., Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of relaxation-focused nursing care state anxiety, cortisol, contraction severity, nursing care satisfaction, knowledge, and birth weeks on threatened preterm labor., Method: This study was a pre-post single-blind randomized controlled trial. The study was conducted with 66 women in the threatened preterm labor process, 33 in the intervention group and 33 in the control group. The intervention group received relaxation-focused nursing care, which comprises a 2-day program in four stages. The data were collected before and after the relaxation-focused nursing care, and after the birth., Results: In the intervention group, state anxiety, cortisol level, and contraction severity were lower than those in the control group ( p < .05). The knowledge level about threatened preterm labor, satisfaction from nursing care, and birth weeks were higher in the intervention group ( p < .05)., Conclusion: Relaxation-focused nursing care was found to reduce the state anxiety in women, improve the knowledge level about threatened preterm labor and birth weeks, and decrease the level of cortisol. Therefore, it is recommended to use relaxation-focused nursing care in threatened preterm labor.

Purpose: This study examined anxiety and depression, and their relationship with symptom assessment, uncertainty, social support, and stress in young breast cancer patients receiving radiotherapy., Methods: This is a descriptive quantitative study. The participants were 126 patients under 50 years of age with breast cancer undergoing radiotherapy., Results: The anxiety and depression levels were higher among those who were married (t = -2.318, p = .022), non-religious (t = 4.510, p = .005), and had a higher monthly income (F = 2.840, p = .041). The hierarchical regression analysis model included symptom assessment, uncertainty, social support, and stress, and accounted for about 49% of the variance in anxiety and depression (F = 7.688, p < .001). Additionally, uncertainty (β = 0.304, p = .001) and stress (β = 0.308, p = .001) were significant predictors of anxiety and depression., Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, nursing interventions are needed to reduce uncertainty and stress in order to reduce anxiety and depression in young breast cancer patients undergoing radiation treatment., (Copyright © 2021. Abstract: Depression and anxiety, which may influence antiretroviral therapy (ART) medication adherence, are prevalent among persons living with HIV (PLWH) in China. This parallel two-arm clinical controlled trial aimed to examine the effects of a nurse-delivered cognitive behavioral intervention (CBI) on depression, anxiety, and ART medication adherence in Chinese PLWH. Using in-person and online recruitment, 140 PLWH ages 18 years and older who were undergoing ART and had a Patient Health Questionnaire-4 score of ≥2 were assigned to the 10-week-long CBI group or the routine follow-up group according to their preference. Outcomes were measured at baseline, postintervention, and 6-month follow-up. Results showed significant intervention effects on depression maintained until the 6-month follow-up. Although anxiety and ART medication adherence did not show robust effects between conditions, amelioration trends for these outcomes were also found. Background: Some patients undergoing the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have suboptimal postoperative results, and preoperative anxiety may be one of the reasons for these unsatisfactory results. We perform this randomized control study protocol to determine the effectiveness of nursing intervention, on the basis of motivational interview, to decrease the preoperative anxiety in patients receiving TKA., Methods: This is a double-blinded, single-center, placebo-controlled and randomized trial, which will be conducted from December 2020 to June 2021. The protocol of this study was approved by the West China Hospital of Sichuan University (W20200803-28). Sixty patients who will undergo TKA are included in our study. Patients are randomly divided into experiential group (with 30 patients) and the control group (with 30 patients). The control group and experimental group receive an informative and separate session via nursing about the operation preparation and operation process. Both the control group and the experimental group are given habitual treatment, but the experimental group need to receive additional motivational interviews. The primary outcomes are the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale. Secondary outcome is postoperative pain, which is assessed by visual analogue scale ., Results: Figure 1 will display the comparison of preoperative and postoperative total average anxiety scores in control group and the experimental group., Conclusion: Preoperative psychological distress is familiar in our patients. We hypothesized that nursing intervention may be associated with reduced preoperative anxiety in the patients receiving TKA.

Background: Liver resection is a major, serious, and very delicate operation that should be done only by specialized, well-skilled, and experienced surgeons. However, the role of nurses, which has often been under-estimated, is also crucial for the success of the intervention or surgery. Intensive nursing care involves high quality nursing modes to achieve the expected goals of treatment smoothly and with less complications. In this analysis, we aimed to show the impact of intense nursing care in improving anxiety, depression, and quality of life in patients with intervention for liver cancers., Methods: Data sources included EMBASE, MEDLINE, Web of Science, the Cochrane central, Google scholar, and http://www.ClinicalTrials.gov. Three authors independently extracted data from the selected original studies. The statistical analysis was carried out by the Cochrane based RevMan software. For dichotomous data, the number of events and the total number of participants were required and for the continuous data, mean, standard deviation as well as the total number of participants were required in the input for analysis. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to represent the data following assessment., Results: A total of 1205 participants with liver cancer enrolled between the years 2010 to 2018 were included in this analysis whereby 667 participants were assigned to an intensive nursing care. Our current analysis showed that most of the patients who were assigned to an intense nursing intervention were significantly very satisfied with their quality of life (OR: 4.07, 95% CI: 1.45 - 11.45; P = .008). However, a minor number of patients with liver cancer who were not assigned to intense nursing care were significantly dissatisfied with their quality of life with OR: 0.18, 95% CI: 0.04 - 0.77; P = .02. This analysis also showed that self-rating anxiety score (SAS) and self-rating depression score (SDS) were significantly in favor of the participants with intense nursing care with OR: - 7.66, 95% CI: [(-9.66) - (-5.66)]; P = .00001 and OR: -7.87, 95% CI: [(-8.43) - (-7.26)]; P = .00001 respectively. In addition, physical function (OR: 13.56, 95% CI: 12.39 - 14.74; P = .00001), and total activity score (OR: 16.58, 95% CI: 13.51 - 19.65; P = .00001) were also significantly in favor of an intense nursing care., Conclusions: Our current analysis showed that intense nursing care significantly improved anxiety, depression, and quality of life following interventions in patients with liver cancers. Most of the patients with liver cancers who were assigned to an intense nursing care were very satisfied with their quality of life. However, this hypothesis should further be confirmed in larger nursing related studies based on patients with liver cancers.

Background: When a patient is approaching death in the intensive care unit (ICU), patients' relatives must make a rapid transition from focusing on their beloved one's recovery to preparation for their unavoidable death. Bereaved relatives may develop complicated grief as a consequence of this burdensome situation; however, little is known about appropriate options in quality care supporting bereaved relatives and the prevalence and predictors of complicated grief in bereaved relatives of deceased ICU patients in the Netherlands. The aim of this study is to develop and implement a multicomponent bereavement support intervention for relatives of deceased ICU patients and to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention on complicated grief, anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress in bereaved relatives., Methods: The study will use a cross-sectional pre-post design in a 38-bed ICU in a university hospital in the Netherlands. Cohort 1 includes all reported first and second contact persons of patients who died in the ICU in 2018, which will serve as a pre-intervention baseline measurement. Based on existing policies, facilities and evidence-based practices, a nurse-led intervention will be developed and implemented during the study period. This intervention is expected to use 1) communication strategies, 2) materials to make a keepsake, and 3) a nurse-led follow-up service. Cohort 2, including all bereaved relatives in the ICU from October 2019 until March 2020, will serve as a post-intervention follow-up measurement. Both cohorts will be performed in study samples of 200 relatives per group, all participants will be invited to complete questionnaires measuring complicated grief, anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress. Differences between the baseline and follow-up measurements will be calculated and adjusted using regression analyses. Exploratory subgroup analyses (e.g., gender, ethnicity, risk profiles, relationship with patient, length of stay) and exploratory dose response analyses will be conducted., Discussion: The newly developed intervention has the potential to improve the bereavement process of the relatives of deceased ICU patients. The COVID-19 pandemic has aroused a level of anxiety and uncertainty that spans demographics and diagnoses. Because the coronavirus is a novel variant, the expert scientific community presents to the public as uncertain and inconsistent in information and ways to deal with potential infection, which creates disbelief and uncertainty. The most consistent recommendation is physical distancing and self-imposed isolation to reduce the spread. However, such isolation also adds to individual and community distress. This column focuses on the neurobiological explanations for anxiety, complications to pre-existing psychiatric disorders, sub diagnostic states of stress and anxiety generally and with health care providers, and pharmacological and nonpharmacological ways of addressing this anxiety. Background: This study will assess the effect of high-quality nursing intervention (HQNI) on anxiety and depression in patients with chronic heart failure companied malnutrition (CHFM)., Methods: We will retrieve electronic databases from the respective dates to February 29, 2020 without language and publication status restrictions: Cochrane Library, Web of Science, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. All potential randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which examined the effect of HQNI on anxiety and depression in patients with CHFM will be included. Two team members will separately perform article retrieval, duplicates excluding, scanning, data collection, and study quality assessment. In addition, this study will carry out data analysis by RevMan 5.3 software., Results: This study will provide high-quality synthesis and/or descriptive analysis of the latest evidence to assess the effect of HQNI on anxiety and depression in patients with CHFM., Conclusion: The findings of this study will exert evidence to judge whether or not HQNI is effective on anxiety and depression in patients with CHFM., Registration Number: INPLASY202040069.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of continuous nursing interventions on valve noise-related anxiety in patients undergoing mechanical mitral valve replacement (MVR) and to analyze its impact on patient quality of life., Methods: Ninety patients who underwent mechanical MVR were divided into two groups. All patients in group A received routine nursing care. In addition to this intervention, an assigned nurse periodically provided patients in group B with continuous nursing interventions and ongoing health consultations during a 1-year follow-up. A hospital anxiety and depression (HAD) scale, a customized questionnaire and a Short Form Health Status 36 (SF-36) score questionnaire were used as the research tools., Results: The postoperative HAD scores were better in group B than in group A, but the differences in most of the data were not statistically significant between the groups, except for HA sections 0-7 and 11-21. Based on the customized questionnaire, the subjective disturbance level was significantly lower in group B than in group A (the results of Q1 and Q4 were statistically significant). With regard to the SF-36 scores, group B was superior to group A in general health, emotional function and mental health, while the other dimensions had no significant difference., Conclusions: Compared with routine care, patients who received continuous care intervention after mechanical MVR had fewer anxiety symptoms and better quality of life.

Aims and Objectives: To investigate the effects of education and counselling on anxiety and pain in women undergoing hysterosalpingography (HSG) as part of infertility treatment., Background: The hysterosalpingography has an important diagnostic role in finding the cause of infertility and making a decision on management of treatment. In addition, it is considered a feared procedure in the infertility process and the one about which very little is known. Women often experience anxiety and pain during the HSG procedure., Design: A randomised controlled trial., Methods: The CONSORT guidelines have been used to describe the methods. Women who were diagnosed with infertility between February-October 2016 were included in the study. The participants were randomised and divided into intervention (52) and control (53) groups. The sociodemographic and obstetric data collection form, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and a visual analogue scale were used before the procedure. After the questionnaires were applied to the intervention group, individual learning and counselling sessions were given about the hysterosalpingography process. Brochures were also distributed to the patients for their reference after the learning session. The control group received standard care., Results: When the intervention and control groups were compared, it was found that the education and counselling given before the HSG procedure significantly decreased the level of pain and anxiety felt by women. In addition, a significant positive correlation was found between pain and anxiety after the training in the intervention group., Conclusions: This study indicates that the education and counselling given to women before the HSG procedure are effective interventions for reducing pain and anxiety in women undergoing HSG., Relevance to Clinical Practice: With the application of HSG education and counselling, and the distribution of brochures to each patient, pain and anxiety can be reduced during the HSG procedure., (© 2019 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Objective: To study the effect of nurse-led counselling on the anxiety symptoms and the quality of life following percutaneous coronary intervention for stable coronary artery disease., Design: Randomised control trial., Setting: Rural and remote China., Participants: Rural and remote patients were consecutively recruited from a medical centre located in China between January and December 2014., Interventions: The control group received standard pre-procedure information from a ward nurse on the processes of the hospitalisation and percutaneous coronary intervention, and post-procedural care. The intervention group received a structured 30-minute counselling session the day before and 24 hours after the percutaneous coronary intervention, by nurse consultants with qualifications in psychological therapies and counselling. The health outcomes were assessed by a SF-12 scale and the Seattle Angina Questionnaire at 6 and 12 months after percutaneous coronary intervention. The anxiety and depression symptoms were evaluated by a Zung anxiety and depression questionnaire., Main Outcome Measures: Cardiac outcomes, quality of life and mental health status., Results: Eighty patients were randomly divided into control (n = 40) and intervention groups (n = 40). There was a significant increase in the scores of the three domains of Seattle Angina Questionnaire 12 months after percutaneous coronary intervention in the intervention group (P < .01). The mental health and physical health scores also increased (P < .01). Objectives: Although postpartum depression (PPD) affects 1 in 5 women, just 15% receive treatment. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a first-line treatment for PPD. The objective of this pilot study was to determine the feasibility and acceptability of public health nurse (PHN)-delivered group CBT for PPD and to determine preliminary estimates of effect., Design: A pre-posttest design was used. Participants provided data before and after the CBT groups., Sample: Seven women who were over the age of 18 and had given birth in the past year participated., Measurements: Feasibility and acceptability focused on PHN training, recruitment, retention, and adherence to the intervention. Participants provided data on depression, worry, health care utilization and mother-infant relations. Women and their partners reported on infant temperament., Intervention: Participants attended a 9-week CBT group delivered by two PHNs., Results: The PHN training, CBT intervention and our study protocol were found to be feasible and acceptable to participants. Reductions were seen in depression and worry. Objective: To examine the effects of a home follow-up program in Turkey on care problems, anxiety, and depression levels of mothers after the birth of a premature baby., Methods: A semi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. Eighty premature newborns and their mothers were included in the study. Nursing care was given to mothers and babies in the study group through a total of four home visits on weeks 1, 2, 3, and days 40-42 in Kırıkkale, Turkey guided by the Nursing Diagnosis System and Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) system of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA). Data were collected from a sociodemographics form, home care needs evaluation form, Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale, and State Anxiety Inventory., Results: There were no significant differences between groups for nursing diagnoses at baseline, while the study group resulted in significantly fewer problems on days 40-42, compared to the control group. Mothers had a comparatively lower depression and state anxiety risk in the study group compared to the control group., Conclusions: Providing home-based nursing care for preterm mothers and babies during the first 40-42 days has the potential to decrease postnatal care problems, including maternal depression and state anxiety levels., (© 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Objective: To test the feasibility of general practice nurse (GPN)-led screening for clinically significant symptoms of anxiety (CSSA) in older people and to estimate the prevalence of CSSA., Methods: General practice nurse-led screening for CSSA was undertaken in eight general practices by integrating the five-item Geriatric Anxiety Inventory-Short Form (GAI-SF) into the annual 75 years and older health assessment (75+ HA). Prevalence rates were calculated, and field notes were analysed., Results: Over 30 months, 736 patients were screened for CSSA, with a detected prevalence rate of 20.1%. The application of the GAI-SF into the 75+ HA was feasible and readily accepted by patients., Conclusions: The five-item GAI-SF is an age-appropriate screening tool for CSSA in general practice settings. Purpose: To validate the content of the NANDA-I diagnosis "death anxiety" (00147)., Methods: Descriptive study using the Fehring model with 202 Spanish nurses who were expert in end-of-life care to explore the adequacy of the components of the NANDA-I diagnosis "death anxiety" (00147) in the Spanish edition., Findings: None of the diagnosis definitions were considered as representative. Furthermore, 5 of the 56 defining characteristics and 5 of the 26 related factors were validated as major., Conclusions: In general, the components of the diagnosis "death anxiety" (00147) in the Spanish edition are not representative according to experts., Implications for Nursing Practice: The results support the need to either exclude the diagnosis from the taxonomy or adjust its content., (© 2018 NANDA International, Inc.)

In order to provide dying individuals with the necessary care, firstly nurses and nursing students should be aware of their own emotions regarding death. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between death anxiety and attitudes toward the care of dying patient in nursing students. This study planned as a descriptive was carried out 376 students who were educated in the first, second, third and fourth grades of the nursing department of faculty of health sciences of a university in Turkey. Data were collected with 'Death Anxiety Scale' and 'Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale (FATCOD-Form B)'. The students' mean score on the death anxiety scale was 32.98 ± 15.01 and their mean score on the Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale was 105.09 ± 9.42. The level of death anxiety is different in gender and the classes. Also, it is inversely related to the attitude toward the care of the dying patients. It is important to reduce death anxiety in order to increase positive attitudes toward the care of the dying patient.

Background: Hospitalisation for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Australia is reducing. Patients who undergo PCI may be discharged home without a post-discharge health management plan, referral for secondary prevention, or understand their chronic condition. Subsequently, negative psychological symptoms such as anxiety and depression may be experienced in the post-discharge period., Objectives: This study assessed the effectiveness of a nurse-led clinic on patients' cardiac self-efficacy and negative psychological symptoms of anxiety and depression 1-week post-PCI discharge., Methods: One-hundred and eighty-eight potential participants were screened, and 33 participants were block-randomised to study groups. The nurse-led clinic used a person-centred approach and delivered tailored education, health assessment, and post-discharge support. In Phase 1, the Cardiac Self-efficacy Scale and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory measured primary outcomes, while the Cardiac Depression Scale was used to measure secondary outcomes. Phase 2 evaluated participants' experiences and healthcare professionals' perceptions of the intervention through semi-structured interviews., Results: In Phase 1, intervention group participants did not show improvements in mental health indicators compared to standard care group participants, except for a moderate reduction in anxiety levels (d = 0.50). Phase 2 qualitative findings; however, highlighted the benefits of the nurse-led clinic., Conclusions: Overall, findings suggest that nurse-led clinics may be valuable to reduce anxiety and act as a supportive measure in the early post-discharge period until commencement of a secondary prevention program. Aims and Objectives: To explore nursing interventions used among patients with cancer and summarise the results of their effectiveness. The ultimate goal was to improve the quality of care and provide best evidence for clinicians to refer to while developing effective nursing interventions., Background: Nursing interventions refer to actions that nurses take with the aim of improving the well-being of people with cancer-related health and care needs. A plethora of systematic reviews has been conducted in this research area, although with scattered results. We conducted a comprehensive review to identify and summarise the existing evidence., Methods: This overview of systematic reviews adheres to the PRISMA guidelines. The PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE and Scopus databases were searched. Nine reviews reporting findings from 112 original studies published 2007-2017 met the selection criteria. The results of intervention effectiveness were analysed using descriptive quantification and a narrative summary of the quantitative data., Results: The effectiveness of educational nursing interventions was inconsistent on quality of life (QoL), attitudes, anxiety and distress, but positive on level of knowledge, symptom severity, sleep and uncertainty. Psychosocial nursing interventions had a significant effect on spiritual well-being, meaning of life, fatigue and sleep. Psychological nursing interventions reduced cancer-related fatigue. Nursing interventions supporting patients' coping had a significant impact on anxiety, distress, fatigue, sleep, dyspnoea and functional ability. Activity-based interventions may prevent cancer-related fatigue., Conclusions: Nursing interventions achieved significant physical and psychological effects on the lives of patients with cancer. Multidimensional nature of interventions by combining different elements reinforces the effect. Priorities for future research include identifying the most beneficial components of these interventions., Relevance to Clinical Practice: Implementation of these nursing interventions into clinical practice is important to improve patients' knowledge and QoL as well as reducing various symptoms and side effects related to cancer and its treatment., (© 2018 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Introduction: Parental presence during invasive procedures is important in family-centered-care. Family-centered-care is a basic principle of pediatric nursing., Methods: This randomized controlled trial included data from 111 cases in the Pediatric Emergency Department of Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical Faculty, during October 2016-January 2017 (parental involvement group, n = 40; parental presence group, n = 40; parental absence group, n = 31). Information form, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children and Visual Analogue Scale were used to collect data., Results: When children's pain levels before invasive procedures were compared, there was no significant difference between the groups (P > 0.05). Significant difference was found between pain levels of the groups during the process (P < 0.001). It was found that the pain levels of the children in the parental absence group (6.00 ± 2.88) were significantly higher than those in the parental involvement group (3.15 ± 2.79) and the parental presence group (3.70 ± 2.92) (P < 0.05). There was a weak, positive, and significant relationship between parents' trait anxiety levels and the preprocedural pain and trait anxiety levels of children in all groups (P < 0.05)., Discussion: Parental involvement is effective in reducing the pain felt during invasive procedures. Moreover, anxiety levels of children during the procedure were not affected in all groups; however, the children of parents with high trait anxiety levels had higher preprocedural pain and trait anxiety levels., (Copyright © 2018 Emergency Nurses Association. Background: The integration of palliative care into standard oncology care is supported by research to improve quality of life and symptom distress in patients with advanced cancer. In 2016, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) released practice guidelines for oncology palliative care that emphasized interprofessional assessment and management of this patient population., Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of clinical guidelines on symptom distress in patients with advanced cancer., Methods: In two oncology palliative care clinics, the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) scores for pain, fatigue, and anxiety were measured prior to consultation (T1) and at two subsequent visits (T2 and T3). A standardized documentation template was used to measure fidelity for key guideline components., Findings: Pain, fatigue, and anxiety ESAS scores were statistically lower from T1 to T3. The frequency of patients having a decrease of 2 or more points for all symptoms increased compared to baseline data. There was 100% compliance to the documentation template during the guideline implementation.

The facilitation of quality time between patients and staff in psychiatric inpatient care is useful to promote recovery and reduce stress experienced by staff. However, interventions are reported to be complex to implement and are poorly described in the literature. This multisite study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and effects of the nursing intervention Time Together, using mixed methods. Data consisted of notes from participant observations and logs to evaluate feasibility, and questionnaires to evaluate effects. The primary outcome for patients was quality of interactions, and for staff, it was perceived stress. The secondary outcome for patients was anxiety and depression symptom levels, and for staff, it was stress of conscience. Data were analysed using visual analysis, percentage of nonoverlapping data, and qualitative content analysis. The results showed that Time Together was a feasible intervention, but measurements showed no effects on the two patient outcomes: quality of interactions and anxiety and depressive symptoms and, questionable effects on perceived stress and stress of conscience among staff. Shared responsibility, a friendly approach, and a predictable structure enabled Time Together, while a distant approach and an unpredictable structure hindered the intervention. In conclusion, the intervention proved to be feasible with potential to enable quality interactions between patients and staff using the enabling factors as supportive components. It also had some effects on perceived stress and stress of conscience among staff. This retrospective study investigated the effect of nursing intervention (NIV) in Chinese patients under preoperative cataract (PC). A total of 70 eligible patients with PC were included. Thirty-five patients in an intervention group received regular clinical treatment and NIV before the surgery, while the other 35 patients received regular clinical treatment only. The NIV was applied 4 sessions, 1 week before the surgery. The primary outcome of satisfaction was measured by 11-points visual analog scale. The secondary outcomes were measured by the functional impairment caused by cataract (the VF-14), cooperativeness during the surgery period, and sleep quality. All the outcome measurements were assessed before and after the surgery. After NIV, patients in the intervention group exerted better outcomes in decreasing anxiety (P < .01), increasing current experience with satisfaction (P < .01), and enhancing the cooperativeness during the surgery period (P < .01), compared to those outcomes in the control group. The results of this study showed that NIV may help increase satisfaction in experience and cooperation, and decrease anxiety in Chinese patients with PC.

Aim: Managing anxiety is essential to control anxiety-related complications. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led video-based educational intervention on anxiety levels among patients undergoing a percutaneous coronary intervention., Methods: A pre-test, post-test quasi-experimental design was used. Between June 2015 and July 2016, 99 participants were allocated to comparison versus intervention groups, and a video-based educational intervention about the percutaneous coronary intervention was provided to the intervention group. The State Anxiety Inventory was used to measure anxiety levels at baseline, 2 hours before, and 4 to 6 hours after a percutaneous coronary intervention., Results: After providing the video-based intervention, at 2 hours before the procedure, results showed a statistically significant difference in anxiety mean scores (33.08 versus 60.88) between the intervention and comparison groups, respectively (P < 0.001). At 4 to 6 hours after the procedure, the anxiety mean score for the intervention group (M = 24.1) was statistically significantly lower than that of the comparison group (M = 44.17; P < 0.001)., Conclusions: A pre-procedure nurse-led educational intervention provided by video had a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels among patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Mood disorders are common problems in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, most clinical treatment focus on anti-viral and anti-fibrosis rather than taking care of mood disorders. In the past decades, we have developed a Chinese medicine treatment method together with nursing intervention, which shows a positive treatment effect on patients. 158 cases of hepatitis B patients were randomly divided into one control group (78 cases), and one observation group (80 cases). The patients in control group received hepatology nursing, liver protecting and transaminase lowering medicine, and ear acupoint bean pressing treatment. In addition to the nursing and treatment as the control group, the patients in observation group were given targeted nursing interventions, including psychological intervention, emotional intervention, cognitive intervention, and systematic family and community support intervention. The anxiety level and sleep quality of patients in both groups were compared. The improvement of hepatic indexes was checked and life qualities in both groups were also compared. Compared to the control group, the patients in the observation group provided have statistically significant mprovement on anxiety control, sleep quality, and hepatic indexes changes (P<0.05). The observation group also showed remarkably better life quality scores (GQLI-64) than the control group (P<0.01). This research confirmed that targeted nursing intervention coupled with ear acupoint bean pressing showed effective improvement on the anxiety control and sleep quality of chronic hepatic B patients, and demonstrated better hepatic index recovery. Patients in the observation group also have higher life quality scores than the control group.

Background: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy can cause pain and anxiety for patients. Despite the use of many distraction methods to reduce pain and anxiety, there is no study on the use of stress balls during lithotripsy., Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of use of stress balls and music therapy to reduce pain and anxiety during lithotripsy., Design: This was a single-center, parallel randomized controlled trial., Settings: The study involved the lithotripsy unit in a training and research hospital in Turkey., Participants: The study included 120 patients who had kidney or ureter stones., Methods: The patients were randomly divided into three groups. The control group (group 1) received no interference, whereas experimental groups received stress ball (group 2) and music (group 3) interventions during lithotripsy, respectively. Data were collected using the Patient Information Form, visual analog scale, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory., Results: There was no statistically significant difference among the three groups in regard to anxiety and pain mean scores (p > .05). No statistically significant difference was found between anxiety scores before and after lithotripsy in each group (p > .05), whereas there was a statistically significant difference between pain scores during and after lithotripsy (p < .05)., Conclusion: Based on the present study, no statistically significant difference was found between the use of stress balls and music in reducing pain and anxiety during lithotripsy. The aim of this study to examine the effects of supportive-educational nurse-led intervention on the patients' anxiety and sleep before the coronary artery bypass grafting.The current clinical trial recruited 160 patients (N = 160) waiting for the coronary artery bypass grafting by random block sampling and divided them into two 80-people experimental and control groups. Spielberger's State Anxiety Inventory was completed on the first day. The Groningen's Sleep Quality Index was also completed by the patients on the day of surgery. Data were analyzed in SPSS software version 16, using descriptive and inferential statistics tests.The mean anxiety score in the experimental group decreased to 48.39, whereas in the control group, the mean anxiety score saw a rise after the intervention (61.09). The comparison of the mean quality of sleep the night before the surgery for both groups showed that sleep in the control group compared with sleep in the experimental group had a lower quality, and statistically, it was significant (P < .001).Results showed that nonpharmacological and supportive interventions can reduce patients' anxiety and sleep disturbance before the coronary artery bypass grafting. According to the results, nonpharmacological therapies should be placed at the top of nurses' tasks.

Background: Anxiety, depressive and somatoform disorders are highly prevalent and cause a huge economic burden. A nurse-led collaborative care intervention has been set up in order to improve self-management of patients with these mental disorders in primary care in Hamburg, Germany. The aim of this study was to determine the cost-utility of this nurse-led intervention from the health care payer perspective., Methods: This analysis was part of a 12-month cluster-randomized controlled trial aiming to increase perceived self-efficacy of primary care patients with anxiety, depressive or somatic symptoms by collaborative nurse-led self-management support compared with routine care. A cost-effectiveness analysis using quality-adjusted life years was performed. Net-monetary benefit regressions adjusted for baseline differences for different willingness-to-pay thresholds were conducted and cost-effectiveness acceptability curves were constructed., Results: In total, n = 325 patients (intervention group: n = 134; control group: n = 191) with a mean age of 40 from 20 primary care practices were included in the analysis. The adjusted differences in quality-adjusted life years and mean total costs between intervention group and control group were +0.02 and +€1145, respectively. Neither of the two differences was statistically significant. The probability for cost-effectiveness of the complex nurse-led intervention was 49% for a willingness-to-pay of €50,000 per additional quality-adjusted life year. The probability for cost-effectiveness did not exceed 65%, independent of the willingness-to-pay., Conclusion: The complex nurse-led intervention promoting self-management for primary care patients with anxiety, depressive or somatic symptoms did not prove to be cost-effective relative to routine care from a health care payer perspective., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. A study was carried out in May 2014 of the first 100 patients who came to seek help to stop smoking in 2013 with the first contact led by a nurse. A mail-questionnaire was sent to this group of patients to evaluate their smoking status and the nurse's first contact organization. Among 34% respondents, 40% had not smoked for at least eight months. Three quarters had found this nursing support useful highlighting the added value of a nurse in supporting first contact in the smoking cessation process., (Copyright © 2018. Objectives: To investigate the feasibility of an intervention using the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Distress Thermometer and Problem List with nurse-guided follow-up and the effect on depressive symptoms, health-related quality of life, and worry of cancer in patients with head and neck cancer.
., Sample & Setting: 110 patients with head and neck cancer in a two-arm randomized, controlled trial in an outpatient clinic of a university hospital. 
., Methods & Variables: Patients were randomized to usual care (n = 57) or the intervention group (n = 53), which consisted of screening with the Distress Thermometer and Problem List plus nurse-guided follow-up lasting about 20 minutes three to four times during 12 months. Intention-to-treat analysis was performed using linear mixed models with outcomes at 6 and 12 months and baseline adjustment.
., Results: The intervention showed moderate compliance and acceptable session duration. Intervention participants were satisfied with nurses' care. Depressive symptoms, health-related quality of life, and worry of cancer were not significantly different in the two treatment groups. The intervention seemed feasible in clinical practice, but no effects on patient outcomes were seen.
., Implications for Nursing: Patients with head and neck cancer appreciated the opportunity to discuss their problems and challenges with a nurse. Nurses supported patients with basic psychosocial care, minor interventions, and referral possibilities.

Aim: Our aim was to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of an individual, nurse-navigator intervention for relieving distress, anxiety, depression and health-related quality of life in women who have been treated for breast cancer (BC) and are experiencing moderate-to-severe psychological and physical symptoms., Methods: Fifty women with newly diagnosed BC who reported distress (score ≥7 on distress thermometer) before surgery were included consecutively in a pilot study and randomized 1:1 to the intervention or the control group. The intervention comprised repeated screening with patient reported outcome measures and nurse navigation. A total of 66 women who were not distressed (score <7) were followed longitudinally as an observational group. Participants filled in four questionnaires, at baseline, after 6 months and 12 months. The primary outcome was psychological distress and the secondary outcomes were anxiety, depression, health-related quality of life and feasibility of the intervention., Results: Women in the intervention group reported significantly greater satisfaction with treatment and rehabilitation and lower levels of distress (mean 2.7 vs. 5.1, p<.01), anxiety (mean 5.1 vs. 7.8, p = .02) and depression (mean 2.2 vs. 4.4, p = .04) after 12 months compared to the control group. No significant effects were seen on health-related quality of life., Conclusions: The study shows promising feasibility of the individually tailored nurse-navigation intervention and while no significant effects were observed after 6 months, we did find statistically significant effects on distress, anxiety and depression 12 months after diagnosis. Our results will assist in developing rehabilitation to the most vulnerable patients.

Aims and Objectives: To describe experiences and nursing needs of school-age Chinese children undergoing lumbar puncture for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia., Background: Lumbar puncture is an invasive procedure, causing psychological changes and physical discomfort in patients. In a previous study, it was proved that distraction intervention, such as music therapy, relieves pain and anxiety. There is limited evidence regarding the experience and needs of school-age children during lumbar puncture after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. To minimise their anxiety and pain during the procedure, it is important to collect information directly from these children., Design: A descriptive qualitative research., Methods: Twenty-one school-age children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia participated in semi-structured interviews at a Children's Hospital in China. Data were collected by an experienced and trained interviewer. Qualitative content analysis was chosen to describe experiences of children undergoing lumbar puncture., Results: While undergoing lumbar puncture for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, school-age Chinese children experienced complex psychological feelings (fear, tension, helplessness, sadness and anxiety). They also experienced physical discomfort. They had multipolar needs, such as information, communication, respect, self-actualisation, environment and equipment., Conclusions: This study identified important areas that must be closely monitored by healthcare staff, performing lumbar puncture on acute lymphoblastic leukaemia children. Thus, a successful and smooth procedure can be performed on these patients, and their quality of life can be improved., Relevance to Clinical Practice: The experiences described in this study contribute to a better understanding of the needs of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia children undergoing lumbar puncture. Background: The concept of test anxiety has been well documented within the health education literature, with much of the literature addressing the clinical environment and simulation laboratories. Minimal exploration of test anxiety has been conducted within the context of a nursing skills laboratory., Aim: This concept analysis of test anxiety will provide clarity to the meaning and use of this concept within the nursing educational setting of a controlled skills laboratory., Method: Walker and Avant's (2005) framework was used to identify the defining attributes, antecedents, and consequences of test anxiety and applied in model, borderline, and contrary cases, and empirical referents., Conclusions: Understanding the concept of test anxiety will enable nurse educators to develop strategies to reduce student anxiety during testing in the skill laboratory. Background: Having access to information about the disease and being encouraged to participate in self-care activities may reduce anxiety and depression symptoms in cancer patients. Internet-based interventions may be one way to support effective self-care strategies to improve emotional well-being and health-related quality of life., Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the development and acceptance of an Internet-based program intended to support cancer patients with anxiety and depression symptoms., Methods: A structured collaboration between patients, clinicians, and researchers was used to develop a theory- and evidence-based interactive health communication application (IHCA) based on Orem's self-care deficit nursing theory with influences from Bandura's social learning theory and psychoeducation., Results: The result is an IHCA described as a Nurse-led, Internet-based Learning and Self-care program that helps patients to perform self-care using different types of material in interaction with patients and healthcare staff. The acceptance of the program is consistent with the results of similar studies., Conclusions: Collaboration between patients, clinicians, and researchers seems to be a fruitful approach in the development of an IHCA aiming to support cancer patients' self-care strategies. Well-designed intervention studies are needed to evaluate the effects of the IHCA., Implications for Practice: This article suggests a theoretical foundation for an IHCA and allows researchers and healthcare providers to take part in the discussion regarding format and content of IHCAs.

Exposure to prolonged stress results in structural and functional alterations in the hippocampus including reduced long-term potentiation (LTP), neurogenesis, spatial learning and working memory impairments, and enhanced anxiety-like behavior. On the other hand, enriched environment (EE) has beneficial effects on hippocampal structure and function, such as improved memory, increased hippocampal neurogenesis, and progressive synaptic plasticity. It is unclear whether exposure to short-term EE for 10 days can overcome restraint stress-induced cognitive deficits and impaired hippocampal plasticity. Consequently, the present study explored the beneficial effects of short-term EE on chronic stress-induced impaired LTP, working memory, and anxiety-like behavior. Male Wistar rats were subjected to chronic restraint stress (6 hr/day) over a period of 21 days, and then they were exposed to EE (6 hr/day) for 10 days. Restraint stress reduced hippocampal CA1-LTP, increased anxiety-like symptoms in elevated plus maze, and impaired working memory in T-maze task. Remarkably, EE facilitated hippocampal LTP, improved working memory performance, and completely overcame the effect of chronic stress on anxiety behavior. In conclusion, exposure to EE can bring out positive effects on synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus and thereby elicit its beneficial effects on cognitive functions. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., (© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) defines gender dysphoria as "Discomfort or distress that is caused by a discrepancy between a person's gender identity and that person's sex assigned at birth (and the associated gender role and/or primary and secondary sex characteristics)" (WPATH, 2016). Gender creative (GC) and transgender (TG) youth are at high risk for severe mental health disparities if they don't receive competent and timely gender transitioning care. Although awareness and early care of TG youth in specialty clinics is improving and increasing, there is still much effort that is required to eliminate barriers to care at many levels and thus improve outcomes. Nurses, particularly advanced practice nurses, are poised to lead the way in creating safe, inclusive, family centered spaces for TG and GC children, youth and their families as well as acting as vital mentors for other nurses. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the increasing prevalence of GC and TG youth, the significance of inclusive care for GC and TG youth, treatment guidelines, and the impact parents and advanced practice nurses can have on the journey of these youth as they explore and find their place on the gender spectrum., (Copyright© of YS Medical Media ltd.)

Background: The developmental period of the teenage years and young adulthood can be a challenging time for most. Experiencing a diagnosis of cancer during this time inevitably presents further challenges and concerns. Identifying such issues can help to provide better ways of understanding the patients' experience and their needs, offering nurses insight to enhance care and support for teenagers and young adults (TYAs) undergoing cancer treatments., Aim: To explore the literature regarding the psychological issues faced by TYAs during cancer treatment to inform nursing practice., Method: A systematic search of electronic databases was conducted using predetermined search terms which yielded relevant articles. Applying an inclusion and exclusion criteria identified six articles that were deemed appropriate to explore the focus question., Results: A thematic analysis identified three main themes and five sub-themes: anxieties about treatment, concerns regarding the impact on life (feeling restricted and different, the benefits of being sick, facing uncertainty) and coping strategies (positive thinking and problem solving, support)., Conclusion: Teenagers and young adults face a unique set of psychological concerns and challenges during cancer treatment, resulting in the development of specific coping strategies. These strategies should be promoted by nurses, ensuring patients are supported throughout their cancer journey.

Aim: The aim of this research was to investigate the views of children and young people's nurses on the mental health training they had received and what recommendations they would make for future staff training., Method: Nine such nurses who had experience of nursing young people following self-harm or a suicide attempt were recruited. Data were collected using individual 45-minute semi-structured interviews and analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis., Results: The findings of this study indicate that children and young people's nurses may benefit from some empathy and attitudes-based training. Participants clearly indicated that they do not feel that they have adequate expertise in mental health nursing. Participants requested training on a variety of mental health topics., Conclusion: The results indicate that children and young people's nurses feel that their current mental health training is inadequate. Individualised training packages for different work areas could be delivered collaboratively by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and specialist children and young people's nurses, using face-to-face teaching methods.
