Micronutrients are used in small amounts by plants and changes in metabolic processes of seeds can improve germination and vigor; however, little is known about the effects of the combination of Zn, Co, and Mo on corn seeds. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the application of Zn, Co, and Mo on the physiological potential of corn seeds of different sizes and levels of vigor. A randomized 2×2×3 factorial design was adopted, with two levels of vigor (high and low), two seed sizes (18 and 22 mm), and three doses of liquid fertilizer containing micronutrients (0, 2, and 4 mL kg-1). The physiological potential of the seeds was evaluated based on germination and vigor tests. High vigor corn seeds had greater physiological potential compared to low vigor seeds. Regarding size, small seeds (18 mm) had higher percentages of germination and vigor than the large seeds (22 mm). Seed treatment with micronutrients (Co, Mn, and Zn) resulted in improved emergence in the field, shoot length, and dry mass of large and small seeds with the application dose of 2 mL kg-1, and the application dose of 4 mL kg-1 enhanced emergence in the field of large seeds and germination after the cold test of low vigor seeds of both sizes.

Introduction: Imported parasitosis, which do not require an invertebrate vector, are extremely dangerous and can lead to the occurrence of disease in currently parasite free areas. In the present study we report a case of multi-parasitic infection in a young immigrant from Ghana to Italy caused by filaria, Schistosoma sp. and Strongyloides sp. Case presentation: A 27-year-old Ghanaian man attended the Hospital of Nuoro (Sardinia), Italy, at the end of August 2015, claiming pain to the kidney and hypertensive crisis; the patient presented with dyspnea and epistaxis, chronic itchy skin of the back, shoulders, arms and legs, anuria and high creatinine, metabolic acidosis and hypereosinophilic syndrome. Serological test for parasitic infections were done, and showed a marked positivity for filaria, Schistosoma sp. and Strongyloides sp. The patient started the treatment immediately with two doses per day of Bassado Antibiotic (tetracycline) for twenty days and then with a single dose of 3 mg of ivermectin that was repeated after 3 months. Conclusions: Immigrant patients from endemic areas who show clinical signs, such as a general itching on the back, shoulders and arms and legs, should have a thorough history in order to make early diagnosis and prevent further complications. Therefore, general practitioners and doctors in Europe and in other parasitosis non-endemic countries, should consider to test for parasites in any immigrant from endemic countries to aid in establishing the final diagnosis and prevent further complications.

The seed is the main input in the maize crop production process. The process of monitoring during the batch and storage processing is fundamental for the identification of critical points in the process that might act towards the physiological quality. The first essay had as a goal the evaluation of the physiological potential of hybrid seeds of corn from different sieves and drying methods. The samples of corn seeds were collected after drying in cobs having up to 11% of humidity level in a drying chamber and drying in cobs having up to 15% of moisture level followed by drying in a gas system having up to 11% of moisture level. After drying, the seeds were threshed, cleaned, sorted, treated, sorted in sieves and stored. Samples were collected at the beginning of the storage process and one year afterwards this process, germinations and strength analyzes were performed through a cold test. It can be verified that using the cobs drying method with gas, there was a reduction in the physiological potential on storing the seeds, still it kept a commercial standard. In the Brazilian market only the hybrid IPR 127 white is commercialized due to its industrial yield for corn grits. The trials were held in the cities of Rolândia State of Paraná, Campo Novo Paricis State of Mato Grosso and Naranjal - Paraguay. The hybrid IPR 127 differs and surpasses the Dow 120009HW in relation to the yield of corn grits.

Today, mobile devices, smartphones and tablets have become a fundamental part of our lives, revolutionizing much of their aspects. The combination of a very powerful hardware and the presence of many sensors and instant connectivity with the huge availability of applications for every need, including those about health and healthcare, make mobile devices a powerful tool for the growing and the development of the “digital healthcare”. In fact major competitors in medical and healthcare market are starting to look at the “digital healthcare” and its revenues with great interest. Despite there is a tight control on what is classified as a medical device in the strict sense, today there is not yet clarity on all software applications categorized in health and wellness, but which are not classified strictly as medical devices and which are therefore not subjected to the regulation of medical devices.

Most uremic patients in dialysis therapy develop an immunodeficiency characterized clinically by frequent infectious complications and impaired response to vaccinations [1]. This became evident in the early period of hemodialysis treatment when endemic outbreaks of hepatitis B threatened dialysis centers [2]. Vaccination results against hepatitis B, in dialysis patients, are disappointing: low results are also documented for most other types of vaccinations in these patients, such as influenza [3], tetanus [4] or diphteria [5]. There is an only exception in using vaccination containing polysaccharide antigens like pneumococcus [6]. Polysaccharide antigens are recognized by B cells on their own, but for recognition of other antigens, B cells need specific T-cell help: these observations indicate that the major defects appear to be in cellmediated immunity [7–9] and in particular correlated to T-cell rather than B-cell function [10]. In normal conditions, in response to antigens, naive CD4+ T cells differentiate into effector T helper (Th) cells. Based on their pattern of cytokine production and their functional responses, Th cells can be subdivided into those that participate in cell-mediated immune responses such as delayed type of hypersensitivity reactions and macrophage activation (Th1 subset) and those releasing cytokines that induce B cells to secrete antibodies (Th2 subset). Several factors are known to polarize the differentiation of Th cells into either Th1 or Th2 direction, including the co-stimulatory action of antigen presenting cells (APCs), the cytokine environment, altered peptide ligands and the antigen dose. In particular, Th1 are characterized by elevated secretion of interleukin (IL)-2, transforming growth factor-s (TGF-s) and interferon-A (IFN-A), thereby activating cytotoxic T lymphocytes and macrophages. Moreover, IFN-A suppresses Th2 which induces humoral immunity. The Th2 subset of CD4+ T cells preferentially secretes IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10 [11– 13], stimulating the proliferation of mast cells and eosinophils as well as the production of immunoglobulins and IL-10 which may suppress the Th1-induced cell-mediated immunity [14, 15]. In general, Th1 cytokines promote Th1 and inhibit Th2 activities and vice versa. Th1 and Th2 responses should, therefore, be stable [16]. Chronic renal failure induces a clinical state of immunodeficiency in most patients: immune defects may be caused by uraemic state itself and by a direct consequence of dialytic therapy [17, 18]. Dialysis has been associated with acute changes in the complement activation status, granulocyte markers, macrophage function, T-cell activation and the release of various pro-inflammatory cytokines. Although the physiolog

The role of Nature Parks today is not only linked to biodiversity protection, but they are also territories where to experience a sustainable economy. A culture, which combines nature conservation and local sustainable development, led to the growth of protected territories in Italy (from 3 % to 11 % over 20 years). Now we have to make a step further: while we need to improve the quality of protected areas management, we also have to increase awareness among people that nature conservation requires our active participation. People themselves, in fact, are the most important custodians of the land and its naturalness. The Land Stewardship project has been a successful way to make owners directly involved in nature conservation and enhancement of biodiversity. Becoming a real worldwide movement, Land Stewardship is a tool to stop building extension in green spaces, thus protecting the most important resource for every country.

- Abstract
The detasseling method on fields of corn seeds is essential in order to obtain hybrids; it is done in the feminine corn rows consisting on the removal of plant tassel before the pollen release, avoiding, this way, the self-pollination. The single and exclusive tassel removal is able to produce an increase on the corn seeds production, due to the deviation of the assimilated materials used in the pollen formation, for the seed development. It may come as well to happen a profit gain, after the tassel is removed. The leaves removal might alter the balancing in the corn relation of source/drain and the instability of this relation may directly affect the seed productions, once that around 50% of the accumulated carbohydrates come from the leaves on the superior culm third, therefore the most efficient ones towards production. Studies have compared different detasseling techniques, however there are difficulties to get this job accomplished in an standardized way. The goal of this essay is to talk about the productivity and quality on seeds as a result of different levels of defoliation. The experiment was made at Fazenda Alto Alegre, settled in the town of Pitangueiras-PR, using as parents of the commercial hybrid Balu 761. Six treatments were made towards the tassel extraction on different numbers of leaves: extracted just the tassel, the tassel with one, two, three, four or five leaves, evaluating the productivity and the quality of the physiology of the seeds. The tassel extraction with five leaves reduced in approximately, 25% towards production. The tassel removal in all treatments didnt affect the physiological quality on the corn seeds.

Background and aims Accumulation of atrial adipose tissue is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF). However the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. We examined the relationship between fatty infiltrations in the atrial myocardium and the development of AF structural/fibrotic substrate. Methods Atrial samples, collected in 92 patients during cardiac surgery and in a sheep model of persistent AF, were subjected to a detailed histological analysis. A transition from fatty to fibro-fatty infiltrates with persistence of AF was tested in the AF sheep model using a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. Results In sections of human right atrial samples, subepicardial fatty infiltrations were commonly observed in the majority of patients. A clear difference in the appearance and fibrotic content of these fatty infiltrations was observed. Fibro-fatty infiltrates predominated in patients with permanent AF (no AF 37±24% vs paroxysmal AF 50±21% vs permanent AF 64±23%, P
