Extra-axial ependymomas are rare tumours, and myxopapillary ependymoma (MPE) is the most common subtype in children, often misdiagnosed as other sacral lesions. MPEs are considered low-grade tumours, but relapse with distant metastasis is frequent. Therefore, therefore a proper diagnosis and subsequent follow-up are warranted. The current report presents a case of extra-axial MPE in a paediatric patient who presented with an indolent sacral mass and underwent surgical resection, along with a review of the literature. The aim was to highlight the importance of diagnostic suspicion in differential diagnosis of sacral soft-tissue masses

In pediatric thoracic surgery, reported predictors for increased risk are symptoms and active/previous infections (RAP). We investigated the adverse events related to Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) in pediatric patients when considering RAP predictors. A retrospective analysis of pediatric VATS major lung resections in 2008-2021 was conducted at three institutions. We employed the pediatric surgical risk calculator to define patients’ preoperative predicted risk (PredR). Postoperative complications were classified according to the Thoracic Morbidity & Mortality (TM&M) system. The observed TM&M rate (ObsR) and the PredR were compared. A subgroup analysis by RAP predictors was conducted. 37 patients (54% female) were included. Mean age and weight were 5.8 years and 22.8 kg. 56.7% had respiratory symptoms, 38.9% active infection and 59.5% history of infections (RAP subpopulations). VATS procedures were lobectomy (n=32), segmentectomy (n=3), bilobectomy (n=1) and pneumonectomy (n=1). The conversion rate was 5.4%. The mean PredR was of 4.43% (±1.8) and the overall ObsR was 45.94% with a median severity of II (I-III). This difference was significant and a higher PredR was not associated with complications development. PredR does not show association among the RAP vs non-RAP group. ObsR showed positive association with RAP, even if it reached statistical significance only for “respiratory symptoms” risk factor. ObsR reflected the number of bronchiectasis patients in our series (n=9), aligning with the hypothesis of “earlier and safer surgery”. The risk calculator underestimates VATS morbidity. Multicentre studies will clarify the correlation between inflammation and surgical adverse events.

Current knowledge on congenital microgastria is limited due to its extreme rarity, and the paucity of nutritional and quality of life follow-ups. Patients affected by congenital microgastria cases followed at out center were screened, and general and nutritional status were evaluated at follow-up visits through validated questionnaires. Three cases were included: one patient died because of a complex syndromic picture where microgastria was imperatively approached conservatively. The remaining cases underwent Hunt-Lawrence at 2 and 17 months. After 2 years and 27 years postoperatively, both patients are on full oral intake. The 28-yearold patient did not reach a BMI higher than 18. She rated her quality of life as unimpacted, with a Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index of 111. In the other case, parents reported about their 2-yearold child an Infant Gastrointestinal Symptom Questionnaire of 13, corresponding to “no distress”. Our findings confirm the literature trend supporting the role of early surgery in microgastria to improve outcomes. We presented the nutritional status and quality of life in two cases of congenital microgastria operated according to Hunt-Lawrence at a 2-year and 27-year distance, which is the longest follow-up reported to date.

Background:. Microtia is a congenital anomaly of the ear. We present an innovative technique using a 3D personalized framework that could simplify and standardize the sculpting phase, thanks to reverse engineering and additive manufacturing techniques. Methods:. Three-dimensional models were realized by T3Ddy, a joint laboratory between the department of industrial engineering and Meyer Children’s Hospital. Data were obtained retrospectively and included patient demographics, primary diagnosis, side of the affected ear, microtia classification, surgical time, length of hospitalization, type of skin approach and framework, complications, aesthetic results, and level of satisfaction using specific questionnaires. Data are reported as median and IQR. Results:. A total of 17 children (female gender: four) underwent auricular reconstruction surgery with autologous cartilage in our center, between 2019 and 2022. Median age at surgery was 14 years [interquartile range (IQR), 13–17], and the median hospitalization length was 5 days (IQR, 3–5). Median surgical time was 420 minutes (IQR, 406–452). Complications occurred in four patients out of 19 procedures, with a complication rate of 21%. Aesthetic results were satisfactory in all cases. Conclusions:. The three-dimensional models allow for an intuitive and precise approach. Having developed specific models for each component of the framework, we aimed to improve the aesthetic result and simplify the surgical intervention, guaranteeing a standardized yet personalized experience for each patient. The interprofessional partnership is fundamental to achieving this result.

Bronchopulmonary sequestrations (BPSs) are rare congenital anomalies characterized by non-functioning embryonic lung tissue receiving anomalous blood supply. They are most commonly located within the thorax (supradiaphragmatic) or into the abdominal cavity (infradiaphragmatic). Intradiaphragmatic extralobar BPs (IDEPS) are an exceptionally rare finding, representing a diagnostic and operative challenge. We report three cases of IDEPS and their surgical management, describing our experience and approach to such rare clinical entities. From 2016 to 2022, we treated 3 cases of IDEPS. Surgical techniques, histopathological findings and clinical outcomes were retrospectively evaluated for each case and compared. Three different surgical techniques were used to approach each lesion, from open thoracotomy to a combined laparoscopic and thoracoscopic approach. Histopathological analysis of the specimens revealed hybrid pathological features, proper of both congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) and extralobar pulmonary sequestration. IDEPS represent a surgical challenge for pediatric surgeons, given their complex surgical planning. In our experience, the thoracoscopic approach is safe and feasible when performed by trained surgeons, even though a combined thoracoscopic-laparoscopic approach allows for optimal vessels control. The presence of CPAM elements within the lesions supports their surgical removal. Additional studies are required to better characterize IDEPS and their management.

Spontaneous lung intercostal hernia (SLIH) is a rare condition potentially carrying severe morbidity. About 120 cases have been described so far, with an apparently increasing number of reports in recent years. The main presenting findings are chest pain and bulging, with ecchymosis in the affected area, hemoptysis, respiratory distress, and signs of infection or incarceration being described as well. The gold standard treatment has not been established, and conservative management has been advocated as first-line treatment for asymptomatic patients. Here, we report a case series of five patients, and surgical repair was deemed necessary for four of them either at first evaluation or after failure of conservative management. One patient remains under surveillance and conservative management. We believe that SLIH surgical repair should be considered as first-line treatment for fit patients, due to the uncertainty of its mid- and long-term impact and described pejorative trend/defect enlargement. A proposed algorithm for SLIH management is also presented.

Abstract Background Acute appendicitis is one of the most frequent abdominal surgical emergencies. Intra-abdominal abscess is a frequent post-operative complication. The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare peritoneal irrigation and suction versus suction only when performing appendectomy for complicated appendicitis. Methods According to PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review was conducted and registered into the Prospero register (CRD42020186848). The risk of bias was defined to be from low to moderate. Results Seventeen studies (9 RCTs and 8 CCTs) were selected, including 5315 patients. There was no statistical significance in post-operative intra-abdominal abscess in open (RR 1.27, 95% CI 0.75–2.15; I 2 = 74%) and laparoscopic group (RR 1.51, 95% CI 0.73–3.13; I 2 = 83%). No statistical significance in reoperation rate in open (RR 1.27, 95% CI 0.04–2.49; I 2 = 18%) and laparoscopic group (RR 1.42, 95% CI 0.64–2.49; I 2 = 18%). In both open and laparoscopic groups, operative time was lower in the suction group (RR 7.13, 95% CI 3.14–11.12); no statistical significance was found for hospital stay (MD − 0.39, 95% CI − 1.07 to 0.30; I 2 = 91%) and the rate of wound infection (MD 1.16, 95% CI 0.56–2.38; I 2 = 71%). Conclusions This systematic review has failed to demonstrate the statistical superiority of employing intra-operative peritoneal irrigation and suction over suction-only to reduce the rate of post-operative complications after appendectomy, but all the articles report clinical superiority in terms of post-operative abscess, wound infection and operative times in suction-only group.

Liver transplantation (LT) is the standard of care for many liver conditions, such as end-stage liver diseases, inherited metabolic disorders, and primary liver malignancies. In the latter group, indications of LT for hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma evolved and are currently available for many non-resectable cases. However, selection criteria apply, as the absence of active metastases. Evidence of good long-term outcomes has validated the LT approach for managing these malignancies in the context of specialist and multidisciplinary approach. Nevertheless, LT’s role in treating primary vascular tumours of the liver in children, both benign and malignant, remains somewhat controversial. The rarity of the different diseases and the heterogeneity of pathological definitions contribute to the controversy and make evaluating the benefit/risk ratio and outcomes quite difficult. In this narrative review, we give an overview of primary vascular tumours of the liver in children, the possible indications and the outcomes of LT.

Paediatric Intestinal Transplantation (IT) presents the highest mortality on the waiting-list due to anatomical disproportion. Living-Donor IT (LDIT) offers the best advantages and when performed among identical monozygotic twins, it also benefits from unique immunology. According to MEDLINE/Pubmed, twin-to-twin LDIT has been performed in seven cases (6:7 males, median age of 32 years). None of the patients received immunosuppression postoperatively. Only one paediatric twinto- twin LDIT was carried out with a 160-cm mid-ileum tract: an interposed 4/5-cm arterial graft was required to ensure a tensionfree anastomosis to the anterior wall of the infra-renal abdominal aorta. In contrast, venous anastomosis was done directly to the inferior cava vein. We present a case for debate of a 13- month-old SBS patient where a twin-LDIT was discussed with parents, who decided to wait after careful analysis and ethical considerations.

Background and ObjectivesShort-bowel syndrome (SBS) results from the loss of a significant portion of the small intestine leading to a state of malabsorption. After an intestinal loss, there is a process of adaptation involving the Glucagon-Like Peptide-2 (GLP-2), an enteroendocrine peptide also involved in nutrient absorption. Teduglutide is a recombinant analog of GLP-2 approved in 2016 to treat selected SBS pediatric patients who are dependent on parenteral support. The present systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of Teduglutide in pediatric patients with SBS in reducing the need for parenteral nutrition (PN).Materials and MethodsWe performed a literature search on MEDLINE and Embase to include articles up to November 2021. We included articles that involved using Teduglutide in the SBS pediatric population to define its efficacy in reducing the need for PN. The key words used were GLP-2, teduglutide, child.ResultsFourteen studies completely fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Two hundred 23 patients were treated with Teduglutide, and the median duration of treatment was 45 weeks (IQR: 36–52.5 weeks). One-hundred and fifty-two patients were treated with 0.05 mg/Kg/d of subcutaneous Teduglutide, 38 received 0.025 mg/Kg/d and 8 received either 0.125 mg/Kg/d or 0.20 mg/Kg/d. A total of 36 patients achieved enteral autonomy (EA) after a median of 24 weeks of treatment (IQR: 24–48 weeks) and 149 patients showed a reduction in PN needs in terms of volume, calories, or hours per day. Eleven studies reported complications: gastrointestinal were the most common, with 89 cases reported in treated patients and 11 in non-treated patients.ConclusionTeduglutide appears safe and effective in reducing PN requirements and improving EA in the pediatric population. Auxetic materials can be exploited for coupling different types of tissues. Herein, we designed a material where the microorganism metabolic activity yields the formation of buckled/collapsed bubbles within gelling silicone cylinders thus providing auxetic properties. The finite element model of such hollow auxetic cylinders demonstrated the tubular structure to promote worm-like peristalsis. In this scenario, the described hybrid auxetic structures may be applied to the longitudinal intestinal lengthening and tailoring procedure to promote enteral autonomy in short bowel syndrome. The presented material and analytical design synergistic approach offer a pioneering step for the clinical translation of hybrid auxetic materials.

Food Aversion (FA) is a strong refusing behaviour to the oral assumption of food that can affect children with Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS). Management includes behavioural and Messy Play treatments, with few reports on systematic strategies to return the patient to enjoyable eating. We conducted a systematic review to better understand this complex and vital issue. (1) Materials and Methods: We investigated publications using MEDLINE, Embase, and the Web of Science to include articles published up to July 2022. The inclusion criteria were original articles including paediatric patients (aged < 18 years old) affected by SBS and Intestinal Failure (IF) who underwent treatment for FA. (2) Results: A total of 24 patients received treatment—15 (62.5%) patients were male and 9 (37.5%) were female. The age range was from 1 month to 16 years. Treatment of FA was carried out by behavioural therapy in 2 patients and Messy Play Therapy in 12 patients already surgically and pharmacologically managed for SBS. The treatment results showed complete weaning from Parenteral Nutrition in 9/14 cases (64%) using the behavioural treatment and 7/12 cases using Messy Play Therapy. (3) Conclusions: FA is a rare but disabling condition that often affects SBS patients, worsening their overall health and quality of life. This condition should be addressed in an Intestinal Rehabilitation Centre context. Our review sheds light on the literature gap regarding FA, and further studies are required to understand better which treatment options best suit SBS paediatric patients.

The term ectodermal dysplasias (EDs) describes a heterogeneous group of inherited developmental disorders that affect several tissues of ectodermal origin. The most common form of EDs is hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED), which is characterized by hypodontia, hypotrichosis, and partial or total eccrine sweat gland deficiency. HED is estimated to affect at least 1 in 17,000 people worldwide. Patients with HED have characteristic facies with periorbital hyperpigmentation, depressed nasal bridge, malar hypoplasia, and absent or sparse eyebrows and eyelashes. The common ocular features of HED include madarosis, trichiasis, and ocular chronic surface disease due to dry eye syndrome, which manifests clinically with discomfort, photophobia, and redness. Dry eye is common in HED and results from a combination of ocular surface defects: mucus abnormalities (abnormal conjunctival mucinous glands), aqueous tear deficiency (abnormalities in the lacrimal gland) and lipid deficiency (due to the partial or total absence of the meibomian glands; modified sebaceous glands with the tarsal plate). Sight-threatening complications result from ocular surface disease, including corneal ulceration and perforation with subsequent corneal scarring and neovascularization. Rare ocular features have been reported and include bilateral or unilateral congenital cataracts, bilateral glaucoma, chorioretinal atrophy and atresia of the nasolacrimal duct. Recognition of the ocular manifestations of HED is required to perform clinical surveillance, instigate supportive and preventative treatment, and manage ocular complications.

In this study, we report the fabrication of two different three-dimensional (3D) architectures of regenerated silk (RS) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) with embedded functionalities. 3D printed cylinders with an internal layer of PHBV and an external of calcium ions (Ca++) or potassium nitrate (KNO3) modified RS were designed to control the radial shrinkage, water uptake and compression strength. Such cylinders were then used as sutureless thermoresponsive clips, measuring the bursting resistance once applied on an anastomized porcine intestine. Experimental data are supported by finite element simulations that model the tube contraction, demonstrating the possibility to program the shape-changing behavior of 3D printed structures. Printing RS on PHBV, we obtained responsive 3D grids to external force with self-powering properties. The synergic effect obtained by combining materials on appropriate architectures paves the way to potential clinical applications ranging from monitoring of vital signs to sutureless sealant patches.

The combination of pharmacologic and endoscopic therapies is the gold standard for treating intestinal failures. The possibility of chemical solubility in water is mandatory for intelligent capsules. Functionalised silk fibroin with peptides and covalently linking different molecular entities to its structure make this protein a platform for preparing gels dissolving in the small and large intestine for drug delivery. In the present study, we linked a peptide containing the cell-adhesive motif Arginine–Glycine–Aspartic acid (RGD) to degummed silk fibres (DSF). Regenerated silk fibroin (RS) films obtained by dissolving functionalised DSF in formic acid were used to prepare composite gelatin. We show that such composite gelatin remains stable and elastic in the simulated gastric fluid (SGF) but can dissolve in the small and large intestines’ neutral-pH simulated intestine fluid (SIF). These findings open up the possibility of designing microfabricated and physically programmable scaffolds that locally promote tissue regeneration, thanks to bio-enabled materials based on functionalised regenerated silk.

Total esophagogastric dissociation (TEGD) was first described by Bianchi as a definitive procedure for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in neurologically impaired children. In the last 20 years, different centers extended the indication to neurologically normal (NN) patients with GERD associated with congenital or acquired esophageal anomalies. The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of TEGD in this cluster of patients. A PubMed and Google Scholar search was conducted. All cases of NN children who underwent TEGD for GERD were collected. Patient characteristics and outcomes were analyzed. Complications were classified according to Clavien–Dindo classification. Forty-eight children were identified. In 56.25%, TEGD was the first anti-reflux procedure, while in 43.75% it was performed after failed fundoplications. Mean follow-up was 5.5 years. Mortality related to surgery was 2.08%. All of the survivors improved their condition, with resolution of GERD and weight gain. In addition, 50% of children weaned off enteral nutrition, with 14.6% having their gastrostomy removed, while 41.67% maintained partial enteral supplementation. Respiratory symptoms almost disappeared in 54.17% of patients. This review suggests that TEGD can also be considered for NN children where conventional methods seem insufficient to control reflux and preserve pulmonary function. Nevertheless, long-term follow-up is still required.

In recent years, there has been an extensive use of machine learning techniques in the medical field for diagnostic or therapeutic prediction purposes. In the field of short bowel syndrome, numerous statistical studies have been proposed, but to date no machine learning techniques have been exploited to predict the outcomes of the surgery commonly performed in paediatric patients suffering from this pathology. One reason for this lack can be identified in the fact that this is a rare condition and therefore it is difficult to have a large dataset. This paper investigates the possibility of processing demographic data of paediatric short bowel syndrome patients by spot-checking machine learning algorithms on a dataset of 86 patients. The experimental setup was developed to ensure the best performance of each algorithm and to take into account the moderate unbalance of the output classes. The Decision Tree algorithms proved to be the best solution in terms of accuracy, precision, recall and F1-score (obtaining values of 0.85 for each metric considered), capable of better understanding the data model.

Short Bowel Syndrome and intestinal failure are chronic and severe conditions that may require life-long parenteral nutrition in children. Survival of these children rely on the correct functioning of central venous catheters; therefore, careful management, prevention, and treatment of complications is of paramount importance. Despite a growing awareness of preserving the vascular real estate, a certain number of patients still experience a progressive and life-threatening exhaustion of vascular access. We searched the literature to highlight the current management of children with vascular exhaustion, specifically focusing on vascular access salvage strategies and last-resource alternative routes to central veins. Given the paucity of data, results are reported in the form of a narrative review.

Early bowel lengthening procedure (EBLP) has been defined as any bowel lengthening procedure performed before six months of age. The purpose of this paper is to compare our experience with literature on this subject to identify common indications. A bi-institutional retrospective analysis was performed. Diagnosis, type of surgery, age at procedure and outcomes were analysed. Eleven EBLP were performed in Manchester and Florence from 2006 to 2021. The median age at surgery was 126 days (102–180), pre-operative median short bowel (SB) length was 28 cm (17–49) with a post-operative median increase of 81%. Furthermore, a PubMed/Embase search was undertaken regarding bowel lengthening procedures performed in the last 40 years. Sixty-one EBLP were identified. The median age was 60 days (1–90). Serial transverse enteroplasty (STEP) was the most frequent procedure used, with a median increased bowel length of 57%. This study confirms that no clear consensus on indication or timing to perform early SB lengthening is reported. According to the gathered data, EBLP should be considered only in cases of actual necessity and performed in a qualified intestinal failure centre.

Introduction: Primary cutaneous adenoid-cystic carcinoma (PCACC) is a rare malignant tumour reported in only about 450 cases in the literature, with only two adolescent cases reported. PCACC seems to occur between the fifth and seventh decade of life, and the most frequent regions involved are head and neck (46%). Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) has an incidence of 1:10,000, and it seems to be rarely associated with neoplastic lesions. Interestingly, the association between PCACC and ACC has, so far, never been described. Methods: We report a case of PCACC in the scalp associated with ACC in a four-year-old patient. Discussion: The patient was under follow-up at the dermatology unit, but suddenly a red lesion appeared within the ACC. This red, ulcerated area increased rapidly over six months, so it was surgically removed, and the pathological examination results were suggestive for cribriform PCACC. According to the guidelines for skin tumours, the patient underwent widening resection, and an advancement-sliding skin flap was performed to recreate the scalp. After one year of follow-up, the patient has no local or widespread recurrence of the PCACC, and the surgical scar appears to have healed well. Conclusions: This clinical case is the first known patient with PCACC associated with ACC. A skin excision biopsy should be performed with wide margins to avoid a second widening resection of skin in a similar scenario. Genetic studies may help to identify the origin of this rare association.

Retention of foreign bodies (FB) in the liver parenchyma is a rare event in children but it can bring a heavy burden in terms of immediate and long-term complications. Multiple materials can migrate inside the liver. Clinical manifestations may vary, depending on the nature of the foreign body, its route of penetration and timing after the initial event. Moreover, the location of the FB inside the liver parenchyma may pose specific issues related to the possible complications of a challenging surgical extraction. Different clinical settings and the need for highly specialized surgical skills may influence the overall management of these children. Given the rarity of this event, a systematic review of the literature on this topic was conducted and confirmed the pivotal role of surgery in the pediatric population.

Introduction. Stoma formation in neonates is often a life-saving procedure across a variety of conditions but is still associated with significant morbidity. Tube stoma technique was originally described for short bowel patients, but in selected cases of neonates this approach could prevent the incidence of stoma-related complications. The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety and utility of tube stomas as an alternative to conventional enterostomy in the neonatal population. Material and Methods. A retrospective multicentre analysis of neonates undergoing emergency laparotomy and tube stoma formation between 2005 and 2017 was performed. Tube stoma complications were analysed. The investigation focused on stricture, skin lesion, enteric fistula and prolapse. Results. Thirty-seven neonates underwent tube stoma fashioning during the study period. Tube-stoma complications were limited to three patients (8.1%), with two children (5.4%) requiring additional stoma surgery during the first 30 days because of an enterocutaneous fistula, and one child (2.7%) for bowel stenosis. Conclusions. In select neonates, such as those with proximal enteric stomas, the tube stoma avoids some of the commonly encountered complications (prolapse, skin excoriation). Further prospective studies are needed to validate these findings in order for us to recommend this technique as superior.

The mainstay of management for short bowel syndrome (SBS) is to promote access to the best quality of care provided by the intestinal rehabilitation program (IRP) in specialized centres. When treating SBS patients, the main goal is to minimize disease-associated complications, as well as achieve enteral autonomy. Surgical strategies should be selected cautiously upon the actual state of the bowel with respect to what it is clinically relevant for that specific patient. To this aim, a personalized and multidisciplinary approach for such a complex syndrome is needed.

Short bowel syndrome is a pathological condition resulting from extensive resection of the intestine, generally performed due to congenital abnormalities, Crohn’s disease, mesenteric ischemia, or neoplasms. The main consequence of this syndrome is a reduction of intestinal absorption, which causes malnutrition and dehydration. In the most severe cases, specific and complex surgical procedures are requested to manage the syndrome. Such procedures consist of the intestinal lengthening, with lead to an increase of absorptive mucosal surface and intestinal transit time and an overall enhancement of intestinal absorption. One of the most promising surgical procedures is spiral intestinal lengthening and tailoring, which consists of a spiral incision of the intestinal wall and in the elongation longitudinally of the intestine by sliding one flap over the other. The final intestinal lengthening is strictly dependent on a series of parameters, some of which are defined by the surgeon. The present paper proposes a mathematical model, based on patient specific anatomical data, which aims to help the surgeon in defining the optimal parameters for the intervention and in foreseeing its outcomes from the preoperative planning phase. Such a tool can assist the physician in the surgery room by improving the procedure and reducing surgical times.

Manual and mechanical suturing are currently the gold standard for bowel anastomosis. If tissue approximation fails, anastomotic leaks occur. Anastomotic leaks may have catastrophic consequences. The development of a fully absorbable, biocompatible sealant material based on a bio-ink silk fibroin can reduce the chance of anastomotic leaks. We have produced a Ca-modified plasticised regenerated silk (RS) with gold nanorods sealant. This sealant was applied to anastomosed porcine intestine. Water absorption from wet tissue substrate applied compressive strains on hybrid RS films. This compression results in a sealant effect on anastomosis. The increased toughness of the hybrid plasticised RS resulted in the designing of a bio-film with superior elongation at break (i.e., ≈200%) and bursting pressure. We have also reported structure-dependent piezoelectricity of the RS film that shows a piezoelectric effect out of the plane. We hope that in the future, bowel anastomosis can be simplified by providing a multifunctional bio-film that makes feasible the mechanical tissue joint without the need for specific tools and could be used in piezoelectric sealant heads.

Abstract Central venous catheter complications can be related to insertion, indwelling, or extraction. Most of the times, immediate complications are anticipated and managed; whereas, delayed complications can go unnoticed. In the case discussed here, migration and dislodgement of catheter tip resulted in delayed hydrothorax and sudden death of a 9-month-old female infant.
