1. Marital status and long-term cardiovascular risk in general population—RIFLE project (Italy).

Abstract

Background: The impact of marital status on cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains controversial in the general population. Aim: The present investigation sought to delineate the association between marital status and long-term major non-fatal and fatal CVD, along with all-cause mortality within the scope of the RIFLE project (Risk Factors and Life Expectancy). Methods: We examined the incidences of CVD, including cerebrovascular accidents and coronary heart disease (CHD), as well as all-cause mortality. In total, 47,167 individuals (46% female, average age 50 ± 9 years) were included in the analysis. Marital status at inception was categorized into married (inclusive of married or cohabitating) versus unmarried cohorts (including widowed, separated, divorced, or single individuals). Results: Compared to their married counterparts, unmarried subjects demonstrated a heightened risk for CVD in both females and males. Throughout a median follow-up span of 7.4 years (interquartile range from 6 to 9 years), married participants, adjusting for standard risk factors, exhibited reduced mortality rates attributed to CHD [hazard ratio (HR) 0.54 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.33–0.86)) and all causes (HR 0.75 (95% CI 0.62–0.91)] within the aggregate population; this reduction persisted for both CHD-specific [HR 0.39 (95% CI 0.51–0.90)]and all-cause mortality [HR 0.68 (95% CI 0.51–0.90)], independent of traditional risk factors in women. No associations were evident between matrimonial status and any measured outcomes in males. Conclusions: Within primary care settings, marital status should be considered a potential correlate of long-term CHD and overall mortality risks, especially among women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show the abdominal cavity's dissection method. In the summer of 2018 a group of students from the University of Palermo, who had already taken the anatomy exam and had good knowledege of English, went for a period of two weeks to do a dissection course at the University of malta. The students dissected skin, subcutaneously, muscle layers, parietal peritoneum and abdominal organs. this works proves to be a small dissection guide for young medical students who want to learn the main bases of dissection and important information for topographical anatomy.

Abstract

Despite being increasingly adopted in Brazil, there are few studies on the process of adoption and use of PA technologies in the country. The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception degree of adoption and profile of farmers regarding the use of the AP technique in the area of Missions -RS. The study was characterized as an exploratory research as its purpose. The target audience of the interview was farmers by Cooperative Tritícola Regional São-Luizense. To obtain experiential descriptions of each producer, semi-structured questionnaires were used, one with open and closed questions and others using Likert Scale. Data were analyzed by calculating the frequency of answers, discourse analysis and the association between the variables and investigated producers was identified through the use of multivariate statistical analysis. AP is still fresh in the Region and RS Northwest. Few tool is still used, restricting the application of the variable rate focused mainly in the production of soybean mainly. Abstract

Différents cultivars vénézuéliens ont été caractérisés : des sorghos sans tanin à albumen semi-vitreux et ayant une bonne digestibilité des protéines in vitro mais aussi, à l'opposé des grains très riches en tanins, à albumen farineux mais qui résistent bien au décorticage par abrasion et ayant une digestibilité des protéines faible. Le décorticage par abrasion et le stockage en milieu humide ont été testés, seuls ou combinés, pour détoxifier les grains riches en tanins. A partir de ces grains détoxifiés, on a fabriqué au niveau de laboratoire de la farine précuite qui a servi à l'obtention d'un produit traditionnel au Vénézuela appelé "arepa". Le décorticage par abrasion suivi d'un stockage en milieu humide a été le plus efficace pour l'élimination totale des tanins et pour augmenter la digestibilité des protéines in vitro du grain. Le procédé de cuisson à l'eau utilisé pour l'obtention de farine précuite diminue la digestibilité des protéines à une valeur équivalente à celle du grain non traité. L'utilisation d'agents éducteurs pendant la cuisson des grains détoxifiés atténue la baisse de la digestibilité. La farine précuite de sorgho a montré une couleur plus foncée que celle de maïs utilisée comme référence. Les "arepas" crues de sorgho ont présenté une consistance équivalente à celle de maïs, en revanche, elles ont été plus collantes et plus foncées

50. Uterine blood flow and prostaglandin levels in ovariectomized rabbits

Abstract

Summary.Blood flow (measured by radioactive microspheres) through the uteri of ovariectomized rabbits increased significantly by 2 h, was lower at 4 and 8 h, and returned to control values by 24 h after an injection of 25 μg oestradiol-17β. Blood flow through the kidneys was not affected. Concentrations of PGF and PGE in uterine vein blood were elevated after oestrogen treatment. PGF values were significantly greater than control. PGE concentrations, while elevated, were not significantly different from control, although the pattern of release was similar to that of PGF. Pretreatment of animals with progesterone or L11204, or concurrent treatment with indomethacin did not modify the blood flow through the uterus. It is concluded that the increased uterine blood flow seen after oestrogen treatment is not related to prostaglandin production.
