With a growing population of about 7.8 billion, humans are generating tons of waste in the form of non-biodegradable plastics on a daily basis that ends up in landfills and oceans. The introduction of packaging has been a blessing to mankind by facilitating the ease of convenience in transportation, delivery and general usage. The downside, however, is that majority of the packaging currently available is harmful to the environment and takes thousands of years to decay. This paper discusses the use of chitosan from shrimp shells and other marine animals' exoskeleton waste in food packaging industries. Chitosan extracted from marine organisms is modulated in the form of packaging material. Compared to conventional packaging, chitosan films are 73.4% biodegradable in soil under laboratory conditions whereas 100% degraded in an open field. Chitosan with metal oxides, essential oils, natural extracts, proteins and other polymers show enhanced tensile strength, water vapor permeability, oxygen and ultraviolet barrier. Chitosan and composite film show antimicrobial activity against gram positive and negative bacteria. Comparative approaches on environmental impacts between conventional plastics and chitosan films are enlightened, thereby highlighting the importance of natural polymers as packaging films that are considered economic based on the addition of additives. [Display omitted] Bacteria-associated infections and thrombus formation are the two major complications plaguing the application of blood-contacting medical devices. Therefore, functionalized surfaces and drug delivery for passive and active antifouling strategies have been employed. Herein, we report the novel integration of bio-inspired superhydrophobicity with nitric oxide release to obtain a functional polymeric material with anti-thrombogenic and antimicrobial characteristics. The nitric oxide release acts as an antimicrobial agent and platelet inhibitor, while the superhydrophobic components prevent non-specific biofouling. Widely used medical-grade silicone rubber (SR) substrates that are known to be susceptible to biofilm and thrombus formation were dip-coated with fluorinated silicon dioxide (SiO 2) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) using an adhesive polymer as a binder. Thereafter, the resulting superhydrophobic (SH) SR substrates were impregnated with S -nitroso- N -acetylpenicillamine (SNAP, an NO donor) to obtain a superhydrophobic, Ag-bound, NO-releasing (SH-SiAgNO) surface. The SH-SiAgNO surfaces had the lowest amount of viable adhered E. coli (> 99.9 % reduction), S. aureus (> 99.8 % reduction), and platelets (> 96.1 % reduction) as compared to controls while demonstrating no cytotoxic effects on fibroblast cells. Thus, this innovative approach is the first to combine SNAP with an antifouling SH polymer surface that possesses the immense potential to minimize medical device-associated complications without using conventional systemic anticoagulation and antibiotic treatments. Studies on antimicrobial and immunotherapeutic agents have become a priority in the management of fish ailments. The Reba carp (Cirrhinus reba) is currently passing through a phase of extreme distress due to infectious diseases. The capacity of algae to synthesize secondary metabolites with immunotherapeutic and antimicrobial potential was previously reported. The current study used C. reba to investigate the antibacterial and immunomodulatory properties of a methanolic extract of an alga after infection with Aeromonas hydrophila. 18 S rDNA sequencing identified the alga as Oedogonium intermedium strain SCB bearing GenBank accession number OQ726217.1. GC-HRMS analysis of the algal extract explored 50 compounds, and among them, 23 components were reported to show bioactivity. LD50 value of A. hydrophila to C. reba had been evaluated by intraperitoneal injection and found to be 1.49 × 105 CFU/mL/fish. The infected carp exhibited abrasion in tails, hemorrhagic subcutaneous ulcers, necrotic hemorrhages, etc. The inclusion of the algal extract in the diet of C. reba stimulates the activity of different non-specific and specific immune components after a challenge with A. hydrophila. Significantly enhanced (p < 0.05) respiratory burst activity, myeloperoxidase activity, alpha 2-macro-globulin, and antiprotease activity were observed in the challenged carp fed algal extract incorporated diet (F2) as compared to the fish fed diet lacking algal extract (F1). The F2 diet-fed challenged carp also exhibited stimulated expression of immune-related genes (viz., IL6 and C3a). Cistus laurifolius L. is commonly used in Turkish folk medicine for the treatment of ulcers and various types of pain. In this study, the cytotoxic and apoptotic activities of C. laurifolius extract on the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line, as well as its antimicrobial activity against eight microorganisms (Listeria monocytogenes, Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, S. typhimurium, and Pediococcus acidilactici) were investigated. Different concentrations (100 µg/mL, 250 µg/mL, 500 µg/mL, and 1000 µg/mL) of the plant extract were applied for 24, 48, and 72 h, and its effects were determined using MTT, BrdU, and in situ apoptosis detection assays on human breast cancer cell MCF-7. Prolonged high-dose application of C. laurifolius extract led to decreased cell viability, inhibition of DNA synthesis, and induction of apoptosis. Its potential to induce cell death, which is the most desirable pathway for cancer treatment, is noteworthy alongside its cytotoxic activity. The antimicrobial effect of C. laurifolius extract varied depending on the Gram reaction of the microorganisms, with the extract being more effective against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative bacteria. • Endophytic fungi- Ascochyta medicaginicola SK16, Phoma sp. SK5 has been isolated from African Club moss- S. kraussiana (Kunze) A., collected from Darjeeling Himalayan hills. • Ethyl acetate (EA) extract of secondary metabolites of SK16 exhibited broad spectrum microbicidal activity against seventeen pathogens including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and C. albicans. • It inhibited pathogens' key metabolic enzymes, caused leakage of major macromolecules, act synergistically with antibiotics/antifungals, blocked biofilm formation, and also stopped the yeast to hyphal transition in case C. albicans. • EA extracts of SK5 exhibited free radical scavenging activity against DPPH, ABTS, and H 2 O 2 , in-vitro antioxidative activity towards peritoneal macrophage cells, and also were cytotoxic against cancer cell lines. • Bioactive compounds were recorded by GC-MS analysis. The search for potent natural compounds from plant and microbial sources is increasing logarithmically to combat various types of health issues of which multidrug-resistant microbes and problems related to oxidative stress are the prime ones. Novel secondary metabolites from endophytes have always been potent alternatives to contemporary antimicrobials and antioxidants. The present study shows that two potent endophytic fungal isolates Ascochyta medicaginicola SK16 and Phomopsis sp. SK5 synthesises non-proteinaceous, thermostable secondary metabolites with broad-spectrum antimicrobial, antioxidative, and cytotoxic activity. Bioassay-guided fractionation revealed that the Ethyl acetate (EA) extract of the cell-free culture extract (CFCE) of SK5 and SK16 constitutes ten and eleven secondary metabolites of which 2,4, -di tert butyl phenol, aziridine- 1,2-amino ethyl, actinobolin, bactobolin, azulene, menthyl acetate, phenol, p-[2-(methylamino)ethyl], and imidazole components were significant. SK16 exhibited strong antimicrobial activity against seventeen pathogens including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and C. albicans with a minimum microbicidal concentration of 100- 400 µg mL−1. These metabolites disrupt the microbial cell membranes causing lethal leakage of biomacromolecules- nucleic acid, protein, and potassium ions. Enzymes involved in the EMP pathway, TCA cycle, and gluconeogenesis were also blocked. Both the biofilm formation and transition of Candida cells from the yeast-to-hyphal form were inhibited. SK5 metabolites are potent radical scavengers with an IC 50 of 34.25 ± 0.87 – 195.21 ± 5.73 µg mL−1 against DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and H 2 O 2 free radical generators and significantly increased antioxidant parameters in treated peritoneal macrophage cells of male Wistar rats. Also, SK5 metabolites were cytotoxic against breast (T47D), pancreatic (MIA Paca-2), lung (A549) and colon (HCT-116) cancer cells. The genus Cephalaria , belonging to the Caprifoliaceae family, is a rich source of secondary metabolites, including mainly saponins which display a variety of biological activities, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancerous effects. This study was carried out to observe the biochemical composition and to evaluate the biological activities of Cephalaria tuteliana Kus & Gokturk. The composition of endemic C. tuteliana was determined through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) studies. Antimicrobial effect were determined by the disk diffusion and dilution methods for test bacteria and test fungi. The antioxidant potential of the ethanol extract was also investigated. Cell proliferation and apoptosis analysis were investigated by WST-1 and ELISA methods. The migration level of PC-3 prostate cancer cells after plant extract application was examined by wound healing assay. Also, molecular docking experiments were performed to investigate the anticancer activity of the major component found in the C.tuteliana extract. GC–MS analysis showed that the predominant compounds were Phenol, 2,2′-methylenebis [6-(1,1dimethyl ethyl)-4-methyl- (23.54 %), 9,12,15-octadecatrien-1-ol, (Z,Z,Z)-(6.06 %) and n-Hexadecanoic acid (3.03 %). The ethanolic extract of C. tuteliana displayed moderate antimicrobial activity against a spectrum of tested microorganisms. Also, it exhibited significant antiproliferative effects on PC-3 human prostate cancer cells while having no harmful effects on healthy control HUVEC cells. Furthermore, enhanced expressions of Caspase-3, 8, and 9 were observed in PC-3 cells after plant extract treatment. Also, cell migration level was notably reduced, especially at a dose of 400 µg/mL in PC-3 cells. The DPPH free radical scavenging activity of ethanolic extracts of C. tuteliana showed higher activity than ascorbic acid. Molecular docking experiments showed potential binding of the major aromatic compound in C.tuteliana extract to human androgen receptor 1E3G protein. Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum nymphaeae and gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea are the most epidemic fungal diseases causing significantly losses in strawberry plantings. The objective of the study is to determine the antifungal activity of neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) seed extracts and preparing new formulated antifungal agent. Plant extracts including alcoholic, aqueous and oil were extracted from neem seeds and used in concentrations of 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000 and 10,000 µl/l to control the vegetative mycelial growth of pathogens. The results showed that alcoholic extract had highest antifungal effect and used for the formulation. The concentration of 10,000 microliters of alcoholic extract showed 91.6 % inhibition of gray mold disease, while it inhibited 80.66 % in anthracnose disease and a significant difference was observed between them. For encapsulation of alcoholic neem extract with plant biopolymers with new changes, the separation method of water-miscible solvent through precipitation with salt was used. The results showed that the best effect of the formulation was observed at a dose of four per thousand. Inhibition at this concentration as the best option in terms of controlling gray mold and anthracnose disease was 86.3 % and 79.38 %, respectively, and they were placed in the same statistical group (d). This formulation is designed to determine the minimum concentration threshold and reduce the consumption of alcoholic extract. This study revealed the effective production of nickel oxide nanoparticles (NPs) using chelating agents derived from the leaves of Paulownia tomentosa plants and nickel (II) chloride hexahydrate (NiCl2⋅6H2O) as the precursor. Nickel oxide NPs (NiO NPs) have been successfully prepared by a green synthesis method using extracts of P. tomentosa leaves in water. The morphology and crystallinity of the NPs were investigated via X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis), energy‐dispersive X‐ray analysis (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The formation behaviour of NiO NPs and the microstructural and physical properties of the resulting particles were studied. This study additionally investigated the antimicrobial, antibiofilm and cytotoxic effects of NiO NPs. Microstructurally uniform NiO NPs with a nanometre diameter were consistently produced using an eco‐friendly processing approach and exhibited a visible‐range transparency of 89%. The obtained SEM images confirmed the octahedral shape of the NPs. The NiO NPs acquired were found to have potent antimicrobial efficacy against all the other bacterial strains. As a result of their antibiofilm effects on pathogenic Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, NiO NPs strongly inhibited these bacteria in a concentration‐dependent manner. Burn wound healing can be significantly delayed by infection leading to increased morbidity and hypertrophic scarring. An optimal antimicrobial agent would have the ability to kill bacteria without negatively affecting the host skin cells that are required for healing. Currently available products provide antimicrobial coverage, but may also cause reductions in cell proliferation and migration. Cold atmospheric plasma is a partially ionized gas that can be produced under atmospheric pressure at room temperature. In this study a novel handheld Aceso Plasma Generator was used to produce and test Aceso Cold Plasma (ACP) in vitro and in vivo. ACP showed a potent ability to eliminate bacterial load in vitro for a number of different species. Deep partial-thickness and full-thickness wounds that were treated with ACP after burning, after excision, after autografting, and at days 5, 7, and 9 did not show any negative effects on their wound healing trajectories. On par with in vitro analysis, bioburden was decreased in treated wounds vs. control. In addition, metrics of hypertrophic scar such as dyschromia, elasticity, trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), and epidermal and dermal thickness were the same between the two treatment groups.It is likely that ACP can be used to mitigate the risk of bacterial infection during the phase of acute burn injury while patients await surgery for definitive closure. It may also be useful in treating wounds with delayed re-epithelialization that are at risk for infection and hypertrophic scarring. Chemical compositions in the leaf essential oils of four Syzygium species were first identified by the GC-FID/MS analysis. Monoterpene hydrocarbons (39.6-51.1%), and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (27.0-37.8%) were the main chemical classes in S. formosum and S. syzygioides leaf oils, whereas sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (83.0-83.8%) were predominant in S. Megacarpum and S. chantaranothaianum leaf essential oils. Bicyclogermacrene (9.1-37.0%) was the principal compounds in these essential oils. All the tested essential oils with the MIC values of 16-128 µg/mL were comparable to the positive control streptomycin against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus, and Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The leaf essential oils of S. formosum, S. syzygioides, and S. chantaranothaianum with the MIC values of 16-128 µg/mL were comparable to the positive control cycloheximide against the yeast Candida albicans. The antimicrobial, UV photoprotective and antioxidant capabilities of Spirulina spp. methanolic extracts were determined using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatographymass spectrometry (GC-MS). Notable compounds were reported to be 5 fatty acid methyl esters, 4-methoxyallocinnamic acid, 2-ethylhexyl esters and bumetrizole. Moreover, these metabolites contained functionalities including hydroxyl, alkyl and carbonyl, as supported by the FTIR result. After 24 h, there was no zone of inhibition in the antibacterial activity as measured by the agar well diffusion method at doses of 30, 50 and 70 g/mL. The ABTS radical scavenging assay revealed that the methanolic Spirulina spp. exhibited an inhibitory concentration of 1,047.91 g/mL for antioxidant activity and SPF values of 0.40, 0.23 and 0.93 were calculated using Mansur's equation for concentrations of 30, 50 and 70 g/mL, respectively. Background: Norway spruce (Picea abies) resin‐based products are used in human medicine. A resin‐based otic rinse also could be useful in supportive care of canine otitis externa (COE), yet information on its antimicrobial effect against canine pathogens or ototoxicity is lacking. Objectives: To investigate the antimicrobial properties and ototoxicity of a commercial resin‐based otic product. Materials and Methods: Antimicrobial effect was evaluated using a standardised challenge test on Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Corynebacterium auriscanis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Malassezia pachydermatis, and Streptococcus halichoeri strains to measure reduction in growth after 24 h exposure to the product. Effect on cell morphology was investigated by exposing S. pseudintermedius, C. auriscanis, P. aeruginosa and M. pachydermatis to the product in 20% and 100% (v/v) concentrations for 6, 24 and 48 h, and evaluating cells by transmission (TEM) and scanning (SEM) electron microscopy. An in vitro microbial kill–rate assay also was performed. Auditory brain stem response test, clinical evaluation and postmortem histological evaluation of ear canals were undertaken on experimental guinea pigs treated with the test product or saline controls. Results: The product showed >log 5 growth reduction for all strains in the challenge test. TEM and SEM images showed clear changes in the cells' inner structures and deterioration of cells, and 100% (v/v) test product exposure induced microbial killing in 1–2 h. Ototoxicity was not detected in guinea pigs. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance: The product may be an option in supportive care of COE because of antimicrobial effects and lack of ototoxic properties in a guinea pig model. Background and Aim Methods Results Conclusion Rates of antimicrobial‐resistant Helicobacter pylori infection are rising globally, but little is known about contemporary resistance patterns, virulence factors, and phylogenetic patterns of isolates within Australia. We aimed to characterize antimicrobial resistance and genetic mutations associated with adverse clinical outcomes.Whole genome sequencing, culturing, and antibiotic sensitivity data for refractory H. pylori isolates at Australian centers were collected between 2013 and 2022. Phylogenetic origins, antibiotic resistance mutations, and virulence factors were examined with phenotypic resistance profiles.One hundred thirty‐five isolates underwent culture, with 109 of these undergoing whole genome sequencing. Forty‐three isolates were isolated from patients in South Australia and 66 from Western Australia. Isolates originated primarily from hpEurope (59.6%), hpEastAsia (25.7%), and hpNEAfrica (6.4%). Antimicrobial resistance to clarithromycin was seen in 85% of isolates, metronidazole in 52%, levofloxacin in 18%, rifampicin in 14%, and amoxicillin in 9%. Most isolates (59%) were multi‐drug resistant. Resistance concordance between genetically determined resistance and phenotypic resistance was 92% for clarithromycin and 94% for levofloxacin. Analysis of virulence factors demonstrated cag pathogenicity island (cagPAI) in 67% of isolates and cagA in 61%, correlating with isolate genetic origin. The most virulent s1m1 vacuolating cytotoxin A genotype was present in 26% of isolates.Refractory H. pylori isolates in Australia emanate from multiple global origins. Strong concordance between genetic and phenotypic antibiotic resistance profiles raises the possibility of utilizing genetic profiling in clinical practice. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) releasing materials are increasingly used in nanomedicines due to their effectiveness against a broad spectrum of microbes. However, most ROS‐releasing materials rely on external stimuli such as photoirradiation, either through photodynamic or photocatalytic processes, which limits their practical applications. Herein, this work presents a novel nanoclay mediated self‐promoted ROS releasing material called oxygen vacancies‐rich ZnO/kaolinite (Ov‐rich ZnO/Kaol). Both experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the introduction of kaolinite increases the content of Ov in ZnO, and the change in the electronic structure promotes the process of oxygen adsorption and activation, resulting in the generation of ·O2−through oxygen reduction without photoirradiation. Molecular dynamics simulations confirm that Ov enhances the interaction between the material and bacterial membrane, promoting the bacterial‐killing effect of ·O2−. More importantly, Ov‐rich ZnO/Kaol is successfully prepared on a pilot scale and used to manufacture antibacterial gauze, which showed at least 99% antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) in the absence of light. The as‐prepared material also exhibited satisfactory biocompatibility and biosafety. Crop production plays a crucial role in ensuring global food security and maintaining economic stability. The presence of bacterial phytopathogens, particularly Xanthomonas species (a key focus of this review), poses significant threats to crops, leading to substantial economic losses. Current control strategies, such as the use of chemicals and antibiotics, face challenges such as environmental impact and the development of antimicrobial resistance. This review discusses the potential of bacteriocins, bacterial-derived proteinaceous antimicrobials and bacteriophages, viruses that target bacteria as sustainable alternatives for effectively managing Xanthomonas diseases. We focus on the diversity of bacteriocins found within xanthomonads by identifying and predicting the structures of candidate bacteriocin genes from publicly available genome sequences using BAGEL4 and AlphaFold. Harnessing the power of bacteriocins and bacteriophages has great potential as an eco-friendly and sustainable approach for precision control of Xanthomonas diseases in agriculture. However, realising the full potential of these natural antimicrobials requires continued research, field trials and collaboration among scientists, regulators and farmers. Abstract\nHighlightsCellulose-based antibacterial nanocomposite films were prepared by adding silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized in situ using a guava leaf extract. The nanocomposite films were synthesized using the solution casting method and characterized by analytical methods. The FTIR analysis indicated the presence of the carbonyl groups of guava leaf extract and hydroxyl groups of cellulose in the in situ synthesized AgNPs. The XRD analysis confirmed the AgNPs in the nanocomposites. SEM analysis revealed the presence of spherical AgNPs in the size range of 60-90 nm. The addition of AgNPs increased the tensile strength and thermal stability of composites. In addition, the cellulose-based nanocomposite film wasn’t showed very significant antibacterial activity against various foodborne pathogenic bacteria. This study aimed to evaluate the potential therapeutic effects of Piper chaba (PC) growing in the northern region of India, having differences in the phytochemicals, nutritional content, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties by reducing power assay (RPA), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay, phosphomolybdate assay, and antidiabetic potential by α-amylase assay with change in the geographical location. Outcomes of the gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis revealed that phytochemicals such as piperine (46.69%), kusunokinin (8.9%), and sitostenone (7.57%) are the prominent compounds found in PC. The plant has also shown a good nutritional value, i.e., iron (11.25 mg), calcium (147 mg), and vitamin C (9.30 mg) per 100 g. PC has a higher phenolic content than other species (⁓ 13.75 g/100 g plant powder). Among the four tested bacterial strains, the extract is best responsive toward Escherichia coli (35 ± 0.68 mm) which is more than the standard ciprofloxacin (24 ± 0.8 mm). Similarly, among two tested fungal strains, Saccharomyces cerevisiae shows the best zone of inhibition (ZOI) (27.5 ± 0.8 mm), which is greater than tat of standard amphotericin (20.25 ± 0.28 mm). The DDPH method demonstrated the highest antioxidant activity (⁓ 42.61 ± 1.82 µg/ml). IC50 for the antidiabetic potential of PC was found to be 23.09 ± 0.3 µg/ml against α-amylase assay. A molecular docking study revealed that three compounds, piperine, sitostenone and kusunokinin, showed strong binding affinity toward bacterial tyrosyl-tRNA synthetases, fungal dihydrofolate reductase, and α-amylase, respectively. Therefore, the findings of the current study indicate that PC can be considered as a source of food and medicines, either in the form of traditional preparations or as pure active constituents. Infectious uveitis is a major global cause of vision impairment. Despite the eye’s immune privilege, afforded by the blood-ocular barrier that restricts microbial entry, several pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites can still infiltrate and cause ocular infections and complications. Clinicians often encounter significant challenges in treating infectious uveitis due to limited or ineffective treatment options. Modern molecular techniques and imaging can aid in diagnosing and assessing intraocular infections. Various antimicrobial therapies exist, spanning topical and systemic treatments, but these are constrained by issues like drug concentration, penetration, effective duration, toxicity, and side effects. Treatment approaches also differ based on the infection’s etiology. Nosocomial infections represent a major threat within healthcare systems worldwide, underscoring the critical need for materials with antimicrobial properties. This study presents the development of polyurethane foam embedded with silver nanoparticles (PUF/AgNPs) using a rapid, eco-friendly, in situ radiochemical synthesis method. The nanocomposites were characterized by UV–vis and FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray technique (SEM/EDX), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile and compression strengths, antimicrobial activity, and foam toxicity tests. The resulting PUF/AgNPs demonstrated prolonged stability (over 12 months) and good dispersion of AgNPs. Also, the samples presented higher levels of hardness compared to samples without AgNPs (deformation of 1682 µm for V1 vs. 4307 µm for V0, under a 5 N force), tensile and compression strength of 1.80 MPa and 0.34 Mpa, respectively. Importantly, they exhibited potent antimicrobial activity against a broad range of bacteria (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Enterococcus faecalis) and a fungal mixture (no fungal growth on the sample surface was observed after 28 days of exposure). Furthermore, these materials were non-toxic to human keratinocytes, which kept their specific morphology after 24 h of incubation, highlighting their potential for safe use in biomedical applications. We envision promising applications for PUF/AgNPs in hospital bed mattresses and antimicrobial mats, offering a practical strategy to reduce nosocomial infections and enhance patient safety within healthcare facilities. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in the study of medicinal and aromatic plants, due to their therapeutic properties that correlate with the presence of different active compounds. Agastache species (sp.) are aromatic plants that belong to the Lamiaceae family, originating from North America and East Asia. The present study aimed to evaluate the composition of essential oils (EOs) obtained from different Romanian cultivated Agastache sp. and to investigate their antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) screening revealed that menthone was the dominant constituent of A. foeniculum (31.58%), A. rugosa (39.60%) and A. rugosa 'After Eight' (39.76%) EOs, while estragole was the major constituent of A. foeniculum "Aromat de Buzău" (63.27%) and A. mexicana (41.66%) EOs. The investigation of the antiproliferative effect showed that A. rugosa and A. foeniculum "Aromat de Buzău" EOs had significant cytotoxic activity on MDA-MB-231 and HEPG2 tumour cell lines, with the most promising effect on the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line for A. foeniculum "Aromat de Buzău" EO (IC50 = 203.70 ± 0.24 μg/mL). Regarding the antibacterial activity, A. rugosa EO was most active against E. coli (8.91 ± 3.27 μL/mL) and S. aureus (10.80 ± 0.00 μL/mL). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the cytotoxic effect of Agastache sp. EOs on MDA-MB-231, HCT116 and HEPG2 tumour cell lines. In the present investigation one compound, 2,6-dimethoxy benzoquinone (FJL-1), was isolated from the dichloromethane (DCM) fraction of the organic leaf extract of Flacourtia Jangomas for the first time. The compound structure was elucidated using extensive spectral analysis, including 1H, and 13C NMR. Furthermore, the DPPH and ABTS methods were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the organic extract, its fractions, and the isolated compound FJL-1. Antioxidant activity of the petroleum, ether, DCM, and methanol fractions of the organic extract and the isolated compound of F. Jangomas revealed moderate to strong radical scavenging ability. Additionally, the antimicrobial activity of FJL-1 against Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 737 and MTCC 96 strains) was observed in an inhibition zone size of 21.6 ± 0.6 to 21.7 ± 0.58 mm showing potential inhibitory activity. The isolated compound FJL-1 shows excellent binding with the 2W9S proteins in terms of docking score compared with the drug Trimethoprim, which also exhibited similar types of interaction and potency against S. aureus. The leaves of F. jangomas can be considered a great source for the identification of numerous important phytoconstituents with potential uses in nutrition, aromatherapy, and the pharmaceutical sector. In this study, we synthesized new series of 5-oxo-2-phenyl-4-(arylsulfamoyl)sulphenyl) hydrazono)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate hybrids 4a-f with the goal of overcoming sulfonamide resistance and identifying novel therapeutic candidates by chemical changes. The chemical structures of the synthesized hybrids were established over the spectroscopic tools. The frontier molecular orbitals configuration and energetic possessions of the synthesized compounds were discovered utilizing DFT/B3LYP/6-311++ G** procedure. We synthesized and characterized bioactive metal (II) complexes from a pyrimidine‐based Schiff base ligand, 4‐[2‐(4‐chlorobenzylidene) hydrazinyl]‐7H‐pyrrolo[2,3‐d]pyrimidine. Through thorough elemental analysis and various physicochemical techniques, we characterized both the ligand and its Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) complexes. Coordination of the metallic ion was established via nitrogen atoms from the ligand's pyrrolo and pyrimidine rings, yielding tetrahedral complexes of the type [M(PPHpCB)2]. These complexes are identified as non‐electrolytes due to their low molar conductance. Furthermore, we investigated the coordination behavior of the pyrimidine‐based Schiff base ligand (HPPHpCB) with metal ions through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis. 1H NMR spectral data showed bonding between HPPHpCB and metal ions, while UV spectra confirmed intra‐ligand and ligand‐to‐metal charge transfer transitions, indicating coordination through nitrogen atoms. The determination of tetrahedral geometry for metal complexes confirmed their diamagnetic properties. Analysis using 13C NMR and electrospray ionization mass spectra (ESI‐MS) revealed variations in chemical shifts, confirming successful complex formation and elucidating structural modifications, electronic interactions, and metal–ligand coordination modes. Moreover, evaluation of in vitro antimicrobial activities using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) approach revealed significant antibacterial and antifungal activities for Hg(II) and Cd(II) complexes, respectively. The Hg(II) complex displayed superior antioxidant activity, while Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes also demonstrated considerable potential. In vivo, cytotoxicity assessments against Artemia salina provided insights into the cytotoxic properties of ligands and metal complexes. The pursuit of advanced multifunctional compounds has gained significant momentum in recent scientific endeavours. This study is dedicated to elucidating the synthesis, rigorous characterization, and multifaceted applications—encompassing anti-corrosion, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties—of Diethyl 4-(5-bromo-1H-indol-3-yl)-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate. The 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative was meticulously synthesized through a strategic reaction of ethyl acetoacetate, ammonium acetate, and 5-bromoindole-3-carboxaldehydein the ethanol medium at 60 C. Subsequent spectral validations were conducted using sophisticated techniques, namely FTIR, NMR, and Mass spectrometry, resulting in data that perfectly resonated with the hypothesized chemical structure of the compound. Its anti-corrosive potential was assessed on mild steel subjected to an aggressive acidic environment, employing comprehensive methodologies like gravimetric analysis, Tafel polarization, and EIS. Concurrently, its antimicrobial prowess was ascertained against a spectrum of bacterial and fungal pathogens viz., Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas, Candida albicansandAspergillusniger, leveraging the disc diffusion method and using Gentamicin as a reference standard.The empirical results illustrated a substantial decrement in corrosion rates with ascending concentrations of the organic compound, achieving an apex of anti-corrosive efficacy at 81.89% for a concentration of 2 × 103 M. Furthermore, the compound outperformed Gentamicin in antimicrobial screenings, manifesting superior efficacy against all tested pathogens. Scientists know very little about the mechanisms underlying fish skin mucus, despite the fact that it is a component of the immune system. Fish skin mucus is an important component of defence against invasive infections. Recently, Fish skin and its mucus are gaining interest among immunologists. Characterization was done on the obtained silver nanoparticles Ag combined with Clarias gariepinus catfish epidermal mucus proteins (EMP-Ag-NPs) through UV–vis, FTIR, XRD, TEM, and SEM. Ag-NPs ranged in size from 4 to 20 nm, spherical in form and the angles were 38.10°, 44.20°, 64.40°, and 77.20°, Where wavelength change after formation of EMP-Ag-NPs as indicate of dark brown, the broad band recorded at wavelength at 391 nm. Additionally, the antimicrobial, antibiofilm and anticancer activities of EMP-Ag-NPs was assessed. The present results demonstrate high activity against unicellular fungi C. albicans, followed by E. faecalis. Antibiofilm results showed strong activity against both S. aureus and P. aeruginosa pathogens in a dose-dependent manner, without affecting planktonic cell growth. Also, cytotoxicity effect was investigated against normal cells (Vero), breast cancer cells (Mcf7) and hepatic carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines at concentrations (200–6.25 µg/mL) and current results showed highly anticancer effect of Ag-NPs at concentrations 100, 5 and 25 µg/mL exhibited rounding, shrinkage, deformation and granulation of Mcf7 and HepG2 with IC50 19.34 and 31.16 µg/mL respectively while Vero cells appeared rounded at concentration 50 µg/mL and normal shape at concentration 25, 12.5 and 6.25 µg/ml with IC50 35.85 µg/mL. Introduction: A three-pronged approach to acne treatment combining an antibiotic, antimicrobial, and retinoid may be more efficacious than single/double treatments while potentially reducing antibiotic resistance. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the first fixed-dose, triple-combination topical acne product, clindamycin 1.2%/adapalene 0.15%/benzoyl peroxide (BPO) 3.1% gel (CAB) using pooled phase 3 data. Methods: In two identical phase 3 (N = 183; N = 180), double-blind, 12-week studies, participants aged ≥ 9 years with moderate-to-severe acne were randomized 2:1 to receive once-daily CAB or vehicle gel. Endpoints included ≥ 2-grade reduction from baseline in Evaluator's Global Severity Score and clear/almost clear skin (treatment success) and least-squares mean percent change from baseline in acne lesion counts. Treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and cutaneous safety/tolerability were evaluated. Results: At week 12, 50.0% of participants achieved treatment success with CAB versus 22.6% with vehicle gel (P < 0.001). CAB resulted in > 70% reductions in inflammatory and noninflammatory lesions at week 12 (77.9% and 73.0%, respectively), which were significantly greater than vehicle (57.9% and 48.2%; P < 0.001, both). Most TEAEs were of mild-moderate severity, and < 3% of CAB-treated participants discontinued study/treatment because of AEs. Transient increases from baseline in scaling, erythema, itching, burning, and stinging were observed with CAB, but resolved back to or near baseline values by week 12. Conclusions: The innovative fixed-dose, triple-combination clindamycin phosphate 1.2%/adapalene 0.15%/BPO 3.1% gel was efficacious and well tolerated in children, adolescents, and adults with moderate-to-severe acne. Half of participants achieved clear/almost clear skin by 12 weeks, rates not previously seen in clinical studies of other topical acne products. Caspase (CASP) is a protease family that plays a vital role in apoptosis, development, and immune response. Herein, we reported the identification and characterization of two CASPs, AjCASPX1 and AjCASPX2, from the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus, an important aquaculture species. AjCASPX1/2 share similar domain organizations with the vertebrate initiator caspases CASP2/9, including the CARD domain and the p20/p10 subunits with conserved functional motifs. However, compared with human CASP2/9, AjCASPX1/2 possess unique structural features in the linker region between p20 and p10. AjCASPX1, but not AjCASPX2, induced marked apoptosis of human cells by activating CASP3/7. The recombinant proteins of AjCASPX2 and the CARD domain of AjCASPX2 were able to bind to a wide range of bacteria, as well as bacterial cell wall components, and inhibit bacterial growth. AjCASPX1, when expressed in Escherichia coli, was able to kill the host bacteria. Under normal conditions, AjCASPX1 and AjCASPX2 expressions were most abundant in sea cucumber muscle and coelomocytes, respectively. After bacterial infection, both AjCASPX1 and AjCASPX2 expressions were significantly upregulated in sea cucumber tissues and cells. Together, these results indicated that AjCASPX1 and AjCASPX2 were initiator caspases with antimicrobial activity and likely functioned in apoptosis and immune defense against pathogen infection. Objetive/Background. The aim of this was to assess the diversity and antibiotic resistance of bacteria isolated from 19 crops with bacterial infection symptoms. Material and Methods: This collection was identified using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and the Biolog system. Susceptibility and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for streptomycin, tetracycline, and gentamicin were determined using disk diffusion and E-test methods, respectively. Results: A total of 55 species belonging to 20 bacterial genera were identified, with Pseudomonas, Serratia, Pantoea, and Stenotrophomonas being the most abundant. Approximately 27% of the isolates were categorized as pathogenic through the hypersensitivity reaction test, including phytopathogenic species like Pseudomonas syringae, P. cichorii, Pantoea anthophila, P. stewartii, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Dickeya oryzae, Erwinia billingiae, Pectobacterium aroidearum, and Enterobacter cloacae subsp. dissolvens. Resistance to at least one antibiotic was detected in 60% of isolates from 17 crops, with tomatoes, heart of palm, and lettuce exhibited the highest proportion of resistant bacteria (>80%). Streptomycin resistance was most common (35%), followed by tetracycline (28%) and gentamicin (9%). Conclusions: The findings indicate the presence of antibiotic resistance in saprophytic and pathogenic bacteria associated with 17 out of 19 assessed crops, posing risks to the environment, phytosanitary conditions, and public health. Background: Pharmacokinetics of amikacin administered IV to neonatal foals are described, but little data are available regarding the plasma concentrations contributed by concurrent intra‐articular (IA) administration. Hypothesis/Objectives: Compare the pharmacokinetics of amikacin when the total dose is administered IV compared to being divided between IV and IA routes of administration in neonatal foals and predict the plasma concentrations from various combined IV and IA dosing regimens. Animals: Eight healthy neonatal foals. Methods: Foals received 3 amikacin treatment protocols: (1) IV‐only (25 mg/kg q24h IV), (2) concurrent IV and IA (16.7 mg/kg q24h IV and 8.3 mg/kg q24h into 1 tarsocrural joint), and (3) IA‐only (8.3 mg/kg q24h into 1 tarsocrural joint). Protocols were administered for 3 days beginning at 7, 14, and 21 days of age. Plasma concentrations ≥53 μg/mL at 30 minutes were considered therapeutic for isolates with intermediate susceptibility. Results: Foal age was a significant variable. The IV‐only protocol met or exceeded the 30‐minute plasma concentrations considered therapeutic (mean μg/mL [95% confidence interval, CI]) in 7‐ to 9‐day‐old (54.0 [52.2‐56.9]), 14‐ to 16‐day‐old (58.1 [55.2‐61.0]), and 21‐ to 23‐day‐old (66.6 [63.7‐69.6]) foals. Concurrent IV and IA protocol did not reach the 30‐minute concentration considered therapeutic in 7‐ to 9‐day‐old foals (46.5 [43.6‐49.4]) but did in 14‐ to 16‐day‐old (62.9 [60.0‐65.8]) and 21‐to 23‐day‐old (62.6 [59.7‐65.6]) foals. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Concurrent IV and IA administration of amikacin produces 30‐minute plasma concentrations considered therapeutic in foals 14 to 23 days old, but concentrations observed in younger foals might be below those considered therapeutic for isolates with intermediate susceptibility to amikacin. Acquiring resistance against antiviral drugs is a significant problem in antimicrobial therapy. In order to identify novel antiviral compounds, the antiviral activity of eight plants indigenous to the southern region of Hungary against herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2) was investigated. The plant extracts and the plant compound carnosic acid were tested for their effectiveness on both the extracellular and intracellular forms of HSV-2 on Vero and HeLa cells. HSV-2 replication was measured by a direct quantitative PCR (qPCR). Among the tested plant extracts, Salvia rosmarinus (S. rosmarinus) exhibited a 90.46% reduction in HSV-2 replication at the 0.47 μg/mL concentration. Carnosic acid, a major antimicrobial compound found in rosemary, also demonstrated a significant dose-dependent inhibition of both extracellular and intracellular forms of HSV-2. The 90% inhibitory concentration (IC90) of carnosic acid was between 25 and 6.25 μg/mL. Proteomics and high-resolution respirometry showed that carnosic acid suppressed key ATP synthesis pathways such as glycolysis, citrate cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. Inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation also suppressed HSV-2 replication up to 39.94-fold. These results indicate that the antiviral action of carnosic acid includes the inhibition of ATP generation by suppressing key energy production pathways. Antimicrobial resistance has recently been considered an emerging catastrophe globally. The public health and environmental threats were aggravated by the injudicious use of antibiotics in animal farming, aquaculture, and croup fields, etc. Consequently, failure of antibiotic therapies is common because of the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria in the environment. Thus, the reduction in antibiotic spillage in the environment could be an important step for overcoming this situation. Bear in mind, this research was focused on the green synthesis of chitosan nanoparticles (ChiNPs) using Citrus lemon (Assam lemon) extract as a cross-linker and application in controlling MDR bacteria to reduce the antibiotic spillage in that sector. For evaluating antibacterial activity, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were isolated from environmental specimens, and their multidrug-resistant pattern were identified both phenotypically by disk diffusion and genotypically by detecting methicillin- (mecA), penicillin- (blaZ), and streptomycin (aadA1)-resistance encoding genes. The inhibitory zone's diameter was employed as a parameter for determining the antibacterial effect against MDR bacteria revealing 30 ± 0.4 mm, 34 ± 0.2 mm, and 36 ± 0.8 mm zones of inhibition against methicillin- (mecA) and penicillin (blaZ)-resistant S. aureus, and streptomycin (aadA1)-resistant E. coli, respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration at 0.31 mg/mL and minimum bactericidal concentration at 0.62 mg/mL of yielded ChiNPs were used as the broad-spectrum application against MDR bacteria. Finally, the biocompatibility of ChiNPs was confirmed by showing a negligible decrease in BHK-21 cell viability at doses less than 2 MIC, suggesting their potential for future application in antibiotic-free farming practices. A novel second-generation blue fluorescent polyamidoamine dendrimer peripherally modified with sixteen 4-N,N-dimethylaninoethyloxy-1,8-naphthalimide units was synthesized. Its basic photophysical characteristics were investigated in organic solvents of different polarity. It was found that in these solvents, the dendrimer is colorless and emitted blue fluorescence with different intensities depending on their polarity. The effect of the pH of the medium on the fluorescence intensity was investigated and it was found that in the acidic medium, the fluorescence is intense and is quenched in the alkaline medium. The ability of the dendrimer to detect metal ions (Pb2+, Zn2+, Mg2+, Sn2+, Ba2+, Ni2+, Sn2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Fe3+, and Al3+) was also investigated, and it was found that in the presence of Fe3+, the fluorescent intensity was amplified more than 66 times. The antimicrobial activity of the new compound has been tested in vitro against Gram-positive B. cereus and Gram-negative P. aeruginosa. The tests were performed in the dark and after irradiation with visible light. The antimicrobial activity of the compound enhanced after light irradiation and B. cereus was found slightly more sensitive than P. aeruginosa. Melanins are ubiquitous pigments distributed throughout the biosphere in different forms and structures based on the substrate (phenolic and indolic) from which they are derived. Melanins are predominantly black/brown and sometimes melanins of color yellow/red have also been observed. Though melanins are widespread, at present their applications are only limited because commercially available melanins are often made through the synthetic process which impedes their application due to poor sensitivity. Melanins from biological sources are of great interest because of their biocompatibility and availability in microbes, especially bacteria. Owing to its rising demand, bacterial melanin can be easily produced and optimized in mass by proper fermentation conditions or by overexpressing the genes encoding enzymes such as polyketide synthase, tyrosinase, and laccase responsible for melanin production cost-effectively. Melanins are produced as a secondary metabolite in bacteria which aids in their survival under stressful environments. Besides providing pigmentation to the cells, many other biological properties, types, and potential applications of melanin in the fields of the textile, food industry, nanotechnology, and biomedical and the research gap that needs to be filled in previous discoveries for better application of melanin has been discussed in this review. Palm kernel oil (PKO) is a vegetable oil containing active substances beneficial for medicine and health. The applications of PKO can be extended by synthesizing ozonated PKO (OPKO). In this study, the PKO was ozonated at different intervals (0, 1, 3, 7, and 24 h). The physicochemical properties of OPKO were studied, including iodine value (IV), peroxide value (PV), acid value (AV), anisidine value (p-AV), viscosity and fatty acid composition (FAC). Meanwhile, the spectroscopic characteristics, melting and crystallization properties of OPKO were also investigated. Besides, the present study also examined the antimicrobial properties of OPKO against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungi using agar disk-diffusion method. The results showed that PV, AV, and viscosity of the OPKO increased in parallel with increasing ozonation time, reaching 963.6 ± 25.0 meq O2/kg fat, 45.30 ± 1.45 mg KOH/g oil, and 196.3 ± 1.6 mPa.s, respectively, after 24 h of ozonation. On the other hand, prolonged ozonation time reduced oleic acid and led to lower IV of 1.6 ± 0.7 g I2/100 g oil. The p-AV exhibited an increasing-decreasing trend, reaching a peak at 3 h ozonation period. Spectroscopic analysis showed that the absorption band at 1712 cm−1, 1400 cm−1, and 1112 cm−1, attributed to C=O, O-H, and -C-O, respectively, were altered with the ozonation time, indicating the change in the chemical composition of PKO. Moreover, the change in the FAC also affected the crystallization and melting profiles of PKO. This work also demonstrated the excellent antimicrobial properties of OPKO with significant inhibition effects against several types of microorganisms tested. Summary This research presents a novel approach to develop pigmented probiotic jelly candies by incorporating an orange pigment‐producing Bacillus 63‐11 strain, encapsulated with surface maltodextrin (MDs) or internal coating maltodextrin (MDi) or sodium alginate (SA). The study evaluated the impact of different coating methods on probiotic activities, antagonistic effects, physical properties and consumer acceptance. Results indicated that coating methods did not compromise the probiotic and antagonistic properties of the Bacillus 63‐11 strain. Over a 6‐month period, all coating methods exhibited increased water activity with minimal microbiological changes. MD‐coated candies demonstrated optimal probiotic viability, tolerance and sensory appeal, emphasising colour preferences. SA‐coated candies exhibited lower viability but superior texture. This study demonstrated the successful development of an unconventional jelly candy prototype with implications for commercialisation. The findings underscore the pivotal role of coating material and method in influencing crucial aspects of the candy, offering valuable insights for the market potential of such innovative products. Enrofloxacin (ENR) residues in yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) often exceed the standard due to excessive use. This study explored the pharmacokinetics of ENR and its metabolite ciprofloxacin (CIP) in yellow catfish following a single dose of 10 mg/kg body weight via intramuscular injection (IM), oral gavage (PO), or a 5‐h drug bath at 10 mg/L and 25°C. High‐performance liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry was used to determine the ENR and CIP concentrations in various tissues. The highest ENR concentration occurred with IM administration, peaking at 4.124 mg/L in the plasma, 8.359 mg/kg in the kidney, 6.272 mg/kg in the liver, and 5.192 mg/kg in the muscle. However, PO administration resulted in the longest metabolic time, with elimination half‐lives of 56.47 h in plasma, 86.43 h in the kidney, 76.25 h in the liver, and 64.75 h in muscle. Additionally, the area under the concentration–time curve values for IM, PO, and bath administration in yellow catfish plasma were 108.36, 88.96, and 22.08 mg·h/L, respectively. These results indicate the effectiveness of all three administration methods in treating bacterial diseases in yellow catfish. The selection of an appropriate administration method depends on the minimal inhibitory concentration of ENR against pathogenic bacteria. Nitric oxide (NO) is produced in most cells in the skin and is an important regulator of essential cutaneous functions, including responses to UV irradiation, microbial defense, wound healing, melanogenesis and epidermal permeability barrier homeostasis. Harnessing the physiological activities of NO for therapeutic use is difficult because the molecule is highly reactive and unstable. A variety of exogenous NO delivery platforms have been developed and evaluated; however, they have limited clinical applications in dermatology due to instability and poor cutaneous penetration. NO-releasing nanomaterials overcome these limitations, providing targeted tissue delivery, and sustained and controlled NO release. Non‐peripherally, glycerol terminal groups substituted copper (II) phthalocyanine were non‐covalently (electrostatic and/or π–π interaction) attached to carbon (CQD) and carbon‐boron quantum dots (CBQD) to form QDs‐Pc nanoconjugate systems. Synthesized novel phthalocyanine compounds and QDs‐Pc conjugate systems were characterized using different spectroscopic techniques. Various biological assessments were applied to newly synthesized compounds. Conjugates 4 and 5 had a maximal free radical scavenging activity of 71.3% and 68.1% at a 100 mg/L concentration. Compounds exhibited high antidiabetic activities at 200 mg/L. Also, compounds showed significant DNA nuclease activity at all tested concentrations. The most efficient MIC value was obtained as 4 mg/L against Enterococcus hirae and Enterococcus feacalis. This MIC value was further decreased after photodynamic therapy, and it was observed that the antimicrobial effects of the compounds increased. In our pursuit of designing potent bioactive compounds, we synthesized six novel tellurium (IV) complexes through the condensation of 5‐methyl‐2‐thiophene carboxaldehyde and p‐nitroaniline. These compounds underwent rigorous investigation using various analytical techniques (TGA, SEM, EDAX, and powder XRD) and spectral analyses (NMR, mass spectrometry, UV–Vis, and FTIR). Spectroscopic analysis suggested an octahedral geometry for the complexes, revealing chelation through the thiophene sulfur and azomethine nitrogen atoms. Thermal analysis indicated a three‐step degradation process, ultimately leaving behind metal oxide as the end product. We conducted in‐vitro antimicrobial screening using the broth micro‐dilution method, highlighting the significant antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of complexes 3c and 3d, as well as the potent antimicrobial activity of 3b and 3f against various bacterial strains, including Candida albicans. To further substantiate our findings, we performed advanced computational analyses, including molecular docking, pharmacophore modeling, DFT, MESP, and ADMET studies. Molecular docking validated our antimicrobial results, whereas pharmacophore models enhanced our understanding of molecular interactions with proteins, potentially identifying novel bioactive compounds. Furthermore, DFT and MESP investigations underscored the superior biological efficacy of tellurium (IV) complexes over thiophene‐derived ligands, emphasizing their potential as therapeutic agents. ADMET analysis revealed their favorable profile as precursors for drug development with minimal adverse effects. Novel heterobimetallic complexes of type [Zn(L)2M2(R)4Cl2], where M = Sn(IV) and Si(IV); R = –CH3 and –C6H5, were prepared by reacting the methanolic solution of monometallic complex [Zn(L)2Cl2] with group fourteen organometallic dichloride [(CH3)2SnCl2/(C6H5)2SnCl2/(CH3)2SiCl2/(C6H5)2SiCl2]. The structures of the obtained complexes were identified by various spectrometric methods such as Fourier transformation infra-red (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, powder X-ray diffraction, molar conductivity, and UV–Vis. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to explore the quantum chemical properties of the newly designed Zn(II) complexes. In vitro antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities of Schiff base ligand [L], mononuclear complex [Zn(L)2Cl2] and its corresponding heterobimetallic complexes, [Zn(L)2M2(R)4Cl2], were evaluated. The heterobimetallic complexes exhibited higher activities against Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus Subtilis and Bacillus cereus), Gram-negative bacteria (Xanthomonas Campestris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and fungal strains (Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium oxysporum) in comparison with both the Schiff base ligand and the monometallic complex. This enhanced performance of the heterobimetallic complexes can be attributed to the synergistic effect. The heterobimetallic complex [Zn(L)2Sn2(C6H5)4Cl2] showed the highest potential of inflammation inhibition with IC50 = 5.2 µg/mL, very close to standard drug sodium diclofenac (IC50 = 4.59 µg/mL). Furthermore, the synthesized compounds were assessed for their anticancer activity against three cell lines: human colon (HCT-116), human breast (MDA-MB-231), and human lung cancer cells (A549) using the MTT assay. The obtained results showed that the heterobimetallic complex [Zn(L)2Sn2(C6H5)4Cl2] displayed the highest cytotoxic activity (IC50 = 3.12 ± 0.25, 3.72 ± 0.26, and 3.94 ± 0.14 for HCT-116, MDA-MB-231 and A549, respectively). This study reports the design, synthesis, and antibacterial evaluation of a library of novel polyheterocyclic derivatives featuring a unique fused pyrimidopyridopyrazole moiety. A cyclocondensation reaction between an amino−pyrazolopyridopyrimidine precursor and malonates afforded a series of pyrimidopyridopyrazolopyrimidine derivatives. Further diversification was achieved through nucleophilic cyclocondensation, yielding a collection of complex polyheterocyclic systems encompassing various ring structures. All synthesized compounds were rigorously characterized using spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis. The antibacterial activity of the newly synthesized compounds was assessed against a panel of Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria. Polyphenolic-rich chokeberry extracts and juice could provide health benefits in humans. Moreover, by-products after processing stand out as a potential new source of valuable compounds. The research aimed to evaluate in vitro bioactivity of chokeberry fruit extract, juice, and waste extract (material remaining after juice processing) based on their chemical composition and molecular docking analysis. Spectrophotometric methods were used to determine the phenolics, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and proanthocyanins content in freeze-dried samples. Additionally, individual anthocyanins, flavonoids, and sugars were identified through HPLC analysis. The antioxidant capacity was tested using two in vitro methods and assessing antimicrobial activity. The effects of tyrosinase and acetylcholinesterase inhibition were examined using spectrophotometric methods. Molecular docking analysis identified the interaction of chokeberry components with the active sites of these enzymes. The waste extract exhibited the most robust antioxidant activity within the DPPH system. While bactericidal activity was absent across all chokeberry preparations, they demonstrated inhibitory effects on specific microbiological strains relevant to the gastrointestinal tract. Results revealed the chokeberry products’ ability to inhibit tyrosinase and acetylcholinesterase. Molecular docking confirmed the strong interactions between chokeberry compounds and these enzymes. Green synthesis of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) by using the plant extract is a very important strategy to gain efficient antimicrobial agents with strong antimicrobial activity and low toxicity. In this study, jujube seed extract (JSE) is utilized to green synthesis of AgNPs by both hydrothermal process and solution‐based approaches. UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra confirm that jujube seed extract functionalized Ag nanoparticles are formed by both approaches and jujube seed extract covered on the surface of Ag nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that the JSE‐AgNPs are spherical with the average diameter of 17.7 and 14.2 nm for the hydrothermal process and solution‐based approaches, respectively. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) results indicate that the JSE‐AgNPs prepared by both approaches have face‐centered cubic crystal structure. The antimicrobial activity test reveals that minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of JSE‐AgNPs by the solution‐based method are 62.5, 125, and 62.5 µg mL−1 against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, respectively. The application of transition metal complexes for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as an attractive alternative in mitigating a broad range of bacterial pathogens, including multidrug‐resistant pathogens. In view of their photostability, long excited‐state lifetimes, and tunable emission properties, transition metal complexes also contribute as bioimaging agents. In the present work, we designed mono and trinuclear cyclometalated iridium (III) complexes to explore their imaging application and antibacterial potential. For this, we used Methicillin‐resistant S. aureus (MRSA), the most prevalent of community‐associated (CA) multidrug‐resistant (MDR) bacteria (CA MDR) and Lactococcus lactis (L. lactis) as Gram‐positive while Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) and E. coli as Gram‐negative bacteria. In addition to differential bioimaging of these bacteria, we assessed the antibacterial effects of both mono and trinuclear Ir(III) complexes under exposure to 427 nm LED light. The data presented herein strongly suggest better efficacy of trinuclear Ir(III) complex over the mononuclear complex in imparting photoinduced cell death of MRSA. Based on the safety profile of these complexes, we propose that trinuclear cyclometalated iridium(III) complex holds great promise for selective recognition and targeting MDR bacteria with minimal off‐target effect. Chronic periodontitis caused by the bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis is thought to be a risk factor for the advancement of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Virulence factors of P. gingivalis include gingipains, outer membrane surface lipoproteins, and fimbriae contribute to the activation of oncogenic pathways in OSCC by up-regulating different cytokines. Gingipains (Arg and Lys) proteases have an important role in the activation of proMMP-9, which promotes cellular invasion and metastatic ability of OSCC. Thus gingipains and MMP-9 were actively investigated as potential therapeutic targets in OSCC therapy. Various natural bioactive compounds from Actinobacteria have been explored for their anticancer potential in a variety of cancers, but very few studies have been reported in OSCC. Therefore, the current study is focused to identify potential actinobacterial compounds that can be considered as a therapeutic target against gingipains and inflammatory proteins in OSCC through high-throughput virtual screening, Molecular Docking (MD), and Molecular Dynamics Simulation (MDS) approaches. A total of 179 bioactive secondary metabolites of Actinobacteria were explored for their binding affinity against six virulence proteins of P. gingivalis. The Molecular Docking studies revealed that among 179 metabolites screened, Actinosporin G showed a highly acceptable binding affinity of −7.9 kcal/mol with RgpB (1CVR), and exhibited multi-protein targeting and drug-likeness property and passed level of toxicity. Comprehensive docking interaction of the best top-ranked Actinosporin G with OSCC-related protein targets illustrated high binding affinity towards MMP-9 and JAK-1 proteins among all targeted receptor proteins. The molecular dynamic (MD) simulation has been executed for the metabolite Actinosporin G for both bacterial gingipain (RgpB) and MMP-9 & JAK-1 showed stable intermolecular binding with both hydrogen and hydrophobic interactions. In conclusion, this work suggests that the bioactive secondary metabolite of Actinosporin G from Actinobacteria genera may serve as a promising therapy for P. gingivalis-induced OSCC. Strategies against the opportunistic fungal pathogen Candida albicans based on probiotic microorganisms represent a promising alternative to traditional antifungals. Here, we investigated the effects of Lactobacillaceae isolates from fermented foods or the human vagina, alone or in combination with the probiotic yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856, against C. albicans in vitro. Nine out of nineteen tested strains of Lactobacillaceae inhibited growth of C. albicans with inhibition zones of 1–3 mm in spot assays. Five out of nineteen lactobacilli tested as such or in combination with S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 also significantly inhibited C. albicans hyphae formation, including Limosilactobacillus fermentum LS4 and L. fermentum LS5 resulting in respectively 62% and 78% hyphae inhibition compared to the control. Thirteen of the tested nineteen lactobacilli aggregated with the yeast form of C. albicans, with Lactiplantibacillus carotarum AMBF275 showing the strongest aggregation. The aggregation was enhanced when lactobacilli were combined with S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856. No significant antagonistic effects were observed between the tested lactobacilli and S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856. The multifactorial activity of Lactobacillaceae strains alone or combined with the probiotic S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 against C. albicans without antagonistic effects between the beneficial strains, paves the way for developing consortium probiotics for in vivo applications. Coumarins are heterocycles of great interest in the development of valuable active structures in chemistry and biological domains. The ability of coumarins to inhibit biofilm formation of Gram positive bacterium (Staphylococcus aureus), Gram negative bacterium (Escherichia coli) as well as the methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) has been previously described. In the present work, new hybrid coumarin-heterocycles have been synthesized via the reaction of coumarin-6-sulfonyl chloride and 6-aminocoumarin with different small heterocycle moieties. The biological efficacy of the new compounds was evaluated towards their ability to inhibit biofilm formation and their anti-inflammatory properties. The antimicrobial activities of the newly synthesized compounds were tested against Gram positive bacterium (S. aureus ATCC 6538), Gram negative bacterium (E. coli ATCC 25922), yeast (Candida albicans ATCC 10231) and the fungus (Aspergillus niger NRRL-A326). Compounds 4d, 4e, 4f, 6a and 9 showed significant MIC and MBC values against S. aureus, E. coli, C. albicans, and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) with especial incidence on compound 9 which surpasses all the other compounds giving MIC and MBC values of (4.88 and 9.76 µg/mL for S. aureus), (78.13 and 312.5 µg/mL for E. coli), (9.77 and 78.13 µg/mL for C. albicans), and (39.06 and 76.7 µg/mL for MRSA), respectively. With reference to the antibiofilm activity, compound 9 exhibited potent antibiofilm activity with IC50 of 60, 133.32, and 19.67 µg/mL against S. aureus, E. coli, and MRSA, (respectively) considering the reference drug (neomycin). Copper-doped ZnO nanoparticles with the formula Zn1−x(Cu)O, where x = 0.0, 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07 were produced using the co-precipitation process. Physical, chemical, and structural properties were properly examined. Powdered X-ray diffraction (P-XRD) patterns revealed the formation of hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure in all samples, through atomic substitutional incorporation in the Cu-doped ZnO lattice. The presence of Cu ions and their dissolution in the host ZnO crystal structure was supported by FT-IR spectra. HR-TEM images were used to assess the average size, morphology, and shape regularity of the synthesized samples. The form and homogeneity of the ZnO changed when Cu ions were substituted, as evidenced by FE-SEM/EDX analysis. The presence of copper signals in the Cu-doped samples indicates that the doping was successful. The decrease in zeta potential with an increased copper doping percentage designates that the nanoparticles (NPs) are more stable, which could be attributed to an increase in the ionic strength of the aqueous solution. The synthesized NPs were evaluated for their substantial in vitro antioxidant properties. In addition, the antimicrobial efficacy of the materials was tested against pathogenic microorganisms. Regarding the anti-diabetic activity, the 7Cu ZnO sample showed the highest inhibitory effect on the α-amylase enzyme. No variations were observed in the activities of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) and proteinase enzymes with ZnO and samples doped with different concentrations of Cu. Therefore, further studies are recommended to reveal the in-vitro anti-diabetic activity of the studied doped samples. Finally, molecular docking provided valuable insights into the potential binding interactions of Cu-doped ZnO with α-amylase, FabH of E. coli, and Penicillin-binding proteins of S. aureus. These outcomes suggest that the prepared materials may have an inhibitory effect on enzymes and hold promise in the battle against microbial infections and diabetes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This review article aims to significantly advance the scientific community's efforts to develop effective nucleoside‐based drugs for treating severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) and other emerging infectious diseases. This study concentrates on the main viral protease (Mpro) and explores nucleoside‐based compounds as potential therapeutic agents. This investigation investigated the impact of acylation‐induced modifications on the nucleoside hydroxyl group and subsequent properties. Nucleoside analogs, which are recognized for their diverse biochemical properties, were synthesized and rigorously screened to evaluate their antimicrobial efficacy. In the domain of pharmaceutical research, computational pharmacokinetics has emerged as a critical tool, especially in the pursuit of nucleoside analogs as potential therapeutics. In silico methods aid in predicting pharmacokinetic traits, interactions with crucial enzymes, and the stability of these analogs in biological environments, thereby streamlining drug design and reducing experimental costs. Concurrently, computational studies revealed the intricate interactions between the analogs and the active site of the main protease. The amalgamation of experimental screening and computational insights underscores the emergence of potent nucleoside candidates with inhibitory activity against SARS‐CoV‐2 Mpro.
