The study examines the effects of the importance of social media (SM) sharing and the knowledge-sharing facilitators on the tourists' tendency to share their actual experiences on SM. Data were collected from 323 local (Turkish) tourists through face-to-face interviews. The convenience sampling method was used to collect data. PLS algorithm, blindfolding and bias-corrected bootstrapping methods were utilized to test the measurement and structural models. The findings revealed that the importance of participant and non-participant sharing did not directly affect the actual travel experience-sharing behaviour. Altruistic and personal fulfilment and selfactualization motivations as facilitators were found to have a full mediating effect in the relationship between the importance of content sharing and actual travel experience sharing. Thus, tourism sector managers should stimulate altruistic and self-actualization motivations as facilitators to encourage tourists to share their actual travel experiences on SM. The aim of this study is to determine the factors that prevent the development of medical tourism in Antalya. To explore the current medical tourism trend, a qualitative procedure was adopted. Besides analyzing the current situation of medical tourism in Antalya through a systematic searching on the available information and publications, in-depth interviews were conducted to collect data from relevant authorities and representatives of medical tourism associations in this country. The data were derived from interviews with 42 key informants. Data analysis of the study was conducted through employing the software NVivo-11. Data gathered at the end of the study were grouped into 8 main themes and 40 sub-themes. The results show that insurances, language and communication, management, policies and rules, prices and treatments, structural, transfer and terminology problems are the main barriers to the development of medical tourism. Several strategies are required in order to address and combat these barriers, such as governmental support, ethical practices, pricing and enhance personnel linguistic competence on an international scale. In this context, the study is expected to contribute to national and regional planning on medical tourism.

LAND surface temperature , *FIRE risk assessment , *FIRE weather , *SOIL moisture , *LANDSAT satellites - Abstract
In the Mediterranean region, particularly in Antalya, southern Türkiye, rising forest fire risks due to climate change threaten ecosystems, property, and lives. Reduced soil moisture during the growing season is a key factor increasing fire risk by stressing plants and lowering fuel moisture content. This study assessed soil moisture and fuel moisture content (FMC) in ten fires (2019–2021) affecting over 50 hectares. The Fire Weather Index (FWI) and its components (FFMC, DMC, DC) were calculated using data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, EFFIS (8 km), and ERA5 (≈28 km) satellite sources. Relationships between FMCs, satellite-based soil moisture datasets (SMAP, SMOS), and land surface temperature (LST) data (MODIS, Landsat 8) were analyzed. Strong correlations were found between FWI codes and satellite soil moisture, particularly with SMAP. Positive correlations were observed between LST and FWIs, while negative correlations were evident with soil moisture. Statistical models integrating in situ soil moisture and EFFIS FWI (R: −0.86, −0.84, −0.83 for FFMC, DMC, DC) predicted soil moisture levels during extended fire events effectively, with model accuracy assessed through RMSE (0.60–3.64%). The SMAP surface (0–5 cm) dataset yielded a lower RMSE of 0.60–2.08%, aligning with its higher correlation. This study underlines the critical role of soil moisture in comprehensive fire risk assessments and highlights the necessity of incorporating modeled soil moisture data in fire management strategies, particularly in regions lacking comprehensive in situ monitoring. The Mediterranean region in Türkiye is noted for the production of cucurbits and other vegetables. As such, the aim of this study was to sample symptomatic cucurbits crops from open fields and greenhouses where there is active cultivation of these crops. Young shoot, leaves, and fruits exhibiting virus-like symptoms (yellowing, mosaic, necrotic) were collected. Out of 968 plant samples collected and tested through RT-PCR and PCR, 949 were discovered to be infected with several viruses. The identified virus diseases included ZYMV, WMV, PRSV, SqMV, CGMV, CYSDV, BPYV, CABYV, ToLCNDV and CMV. In terms of hosts exhibiting a high incidence of virus infections, cucumber (363 samples), squash (277 samples), melon (201 samples), and watermelon (108 samples) emerged as the top four hosts. Additionally, viruses with notable high incidences in the collected samples, as recorded through molecular testing in decreasing order included ZYMV at 28.1%, CYSDV at 15.5%, and WMV at 14.4%. Also, 90% of samples collected from open fields had single or multiple infection. In contrast, 26.4% of samples from greenhouses exhibited mosaic symptoms and 74.6% showed yellowing symptoms. Notably, MNSV and BPYV, were detected in these samples. The samples also exhibiting mixed infections predominantly displayed mosaic symptoms, including mixed infections such as ZYMV with WMV, ZYMV with CMV, CMV with WMV, and CMV with PRSV. In contrast, samples obtained from open fields showed a higher prevalence of yellowing symptoms, such as ToLCNDV with CMV, ToLCNDV with ZYMV, ZYMV with CMV with CYSDV, and ZYMV with CMV with CVYV. • FFS maps were produced using CTREE, KNN, SVM, RF, GBM and XGBoost algorithms. • The performance of six machine learning techniques was evaluated. • This study will be the first to use the CTREE algorithm for FFS mapping. • XGBoost gave the best results compared to other models. • The most important factor for producing FFS maps in XGBoost models was annual temperature. Antalya is one of the provinces with the highest number of forest fires in Türkiye. In 2021, 278 forest fires occurred within the administrative boundaries of Antalya Regional Directorate of Forestry. The main objective of this study is to produce forest fire susceptibility (FFS) maps of Antalya province using machine learning (ML) models. In addition to forest fire inventory data, 16 factors, including topographic, environmental, meteorological, and human-driven, were used in the study. Inventory data included 2166 fire ignition points from the General Directorate of Forestry. 70 % of the inventory dataset was used to train the ML models and 30 % to validate the models. Overall accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) approaches were considered as validation metrics. FFS maps of Antalya were produced using stand-alone ML algorithms, K-Nearest Neighbors, and Support Vector Machines, as well as tree-based Conditional Inference Trees (CTREE), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM), and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study using the CTREE algorithm for forest fire susceptibility mapping. Therefore, this study is important for the related literature. The validation results revealed that the XGBoost model outperformed other models. It is thought that the FFS map produced using the XGBoost model will guide forest engineers, wildland firefighting teams, and firefighters to minimize damage and control forest fires. - Abstract
This study aims to examine how tourism enterprises can ensure their sustainability and elude the negative effects of the COVID-19 crisis via recovery strategies through semi-structured in-depth interviews, focusing on the tourism industry in Antalya, the first and most important destination in Türkiye, in terms of arrivals and nights spent. According to the findings, travel bans and quarantine measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic had devastating effects on Antalya's tourism sector. In fact, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a shortage of personnel in tourism industry, a persisting problem. In managing this crisis, businesses and the state have attempted various recovery strategies. Despite a recovery period since 2021, vulnerabilities in the national economy and increasing inflation rates since COVID-19 have triggered input and living costs. Furthermore, the Ukraine War has adversely affected the sustainability of tourism activities in Antalya. Moreover, due to new regulations regarding retirement in 2023, some middle-level managers in tourism sector have retired, leading to predictions of a potential crisis in upper-level management in the future. According to the study results, cooperation in tourism sector, public–private–university collaboration, and government support play significant roles in achieving full recovery from the crisis and ensuring sustainability in tourism sector activities. The study may contribute to the literature and help industry representatives and policymakers in terms of sustainability in tourism and crisis management recovery strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HAND weaving ,ANCIENT cities & towns ,PALEOLITHIC Period ,NEOLITHIC Period ,LOOMS ,ARCHAEOLOGICAL excavations - Abstract
This study examines 35 terracotta loom weights recovered during the excavations in the ancient city of Syedra, located in the Alanya district of Antalya. Humans have three basic needs to survive: nutrition, shelter and clothing. Although the exact date of the beginning of weaving, which emerged in order to meet the need for clothing, is unknown, archaeological data date back to the Upper Paleolithic Period. The development of weaving started with the Neolithic Period. Hand weaving is both tiring and takes a long time, which led to the emergence of weaving tools. Loom weights, used in weaving in Antiquity, were attached to the ends of the warp threads on the looms to keep the threads taut. Weaving weights of various forms are found in pyramidal and discoid forms in Syedra. Within the scope of the study, the artefacts were firstly measured and identified by digital methods, typologized according to the characteristics of their forms, and dated through their counterparts, taking into account the stratum in which they were found. There are no studies on loom weights in the Cilicia Region, which includes the ancient city of Syedra. Although no archaeological data has been found so far regarding the production of weaving tools and the existence of a weaving workshop in the ancient city of Syedra, the large number of loom weights found in the city strengthens the belief that they were locally produced rather than imported. The Mediterranean region experiences the annual destruction of thousands of hectares due to climatic conditions. This study examines forest fires in Türkiye's Antalya region, a Mediterranean high-risk area, from 2000 to 2023, analyzing 26 fires that each damaged over 50 hectares. Fire danger maps created from fire weather indexes (FWI) indicated that 85.7% of the analyzed fire areas were categorized within the high to very extreme danger categories. The study evaluated fire danger maps from EFFIS FWI and ERA5 FWI, both derived from meteorological satellite data, for 14 forest fires between 2019 and 2023. With its better spatial resolution, it was found that EFFIS FWI had a higher correlation (0.98) with in situ FWIs. Since FWIs are calculated from temperature and fire moisture subcomponents, the correlations of satellite-based temperature (MODIS Land Surface Temperature—LST) and soil moisture (SMAP) data with FWIs were investigated. The in situ FWI demonstrated a positive correlation of 0.96 with MODIS LST, 0.92 with EFFIS FWI, and 0.93 with ERA5 FWI. The negative correlation between all FWIs and SMAP soil moisture highlighted a strong relationship, with the highest observed in in situ FWI (−0.93) and −0.90 and −0.87 for EFFIS FWI and ERA5 FWI, respectively. CITIZENSHIP , *MARRIAGE , *INTERMARRIAGE , *REAL estate investment , *REAL estate sales , *UNDOCUMENTED immigrants - Abstract
Examining the statistics of tourism, of real estate sales to foreigners and statistics of mixed marriages, the authors argue that Russians' interest to Turkey has steadily increased not only as a tourist destination but also as an emigration country for Russians. Many Russian citizens who visit Turkey for tourism purposes think about settling down in the country, and some of them buy real estate there. The second main period of the Russian immigration to Turkey is 1990s, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Due to the number of mixed marriages increased as a result of irregular migration, a new generation grew up with two common cultures. In general, the gender factor appears more prominently in the marriage and migration, and the mixed marriages point out the unimportance of social-cultural differences such as language and religion. After 1980, an increase in foreign population was observed in Turkey especially in coastal areas such as Aegean and Mediterranean regions with tourism activities, and from 2000, these locations, mainly Antalya, have become popular in international migration. Main changes in Turkish legislation on citizenship are closely linked to the economic migration process, including quantitative limits set forth for investments in capital and real estate were dramatically decreased. Turkey has really become an immigration country while before it was an emigration one.The statistical data collected from different sources prove some surveys' conclusions that economic factors are less important than social and geographical ones in the decisions of Russian citizens to migrate to and settle down in Turkey. Tourists demonstrate different personalities and reveal extraordinary behavior in the vacation milieu while alienating them psychologically. Within the vacation atmosphere, tourists abandon their own norms and core values and set out to relish vacation time. In this context, the study aims to determine the impacts of liminoid behavior and tourists’ pursuit of novelties on satisfaction. The data were collected face-to-face at Antalya Airport International Terminal from October 22nd to November 5th, 2018. The results show that during vacation periods, the liminoid behavior of tourists significantly affects their satisfaction. Amongst all liminoid behavior, the aspect of hedonism indicates the most extreme effect on satisfaction. Additionally, it was found that tourists' novelty-seeking significantly affected their vacation satisfaction. The study concludes with the recommendation of destination managers to be more tolerant of tourists' liminoid behavior and to make differentiations in service delivery, considering novelty seeking.

Introduction of the research problem. Tourism activities have shown a shift from privileged individuals with high purchasing power to individuals with lower income levels due to increased leisure time. Along with a high economic potential, tourism has an important social significance; namely, it ensures the restoration of human life forces spent in the work process and contributes to the spiritual and intellectual development of the individual, thereby increasing the quality of labor resources. Orientation to the development of tourism in view of the principles of sustainable development, with an understanding of the need for the development of social tourism and promoting the improvement of the level and quality of life of the population, ensuring accessibility for all segments of the population does not lose its relevance and the need to implement science-based initiatives and measures that should be based on specific research results, primarily geographical. In order to understand the opportunities and obstacles to the development of social tourism, the following questions remain essential: What is the attitude of the local population to the intensive development of tourism in the region of residence? What is the involvement of the local population in tourism? What problems does the local population face when organizing leisure activities? What are the obstacles, challenges, and opportunities for the organization of social tourism? Given the limited geographical studies on social tourism, this study is seen as an original and distinctive contribution. The significance of this research lies in its potential to serve as an example for Turkey. The purpose of this research is to identify the participation of the local community living in urban and rural neighborhoods of Serik district, which constitutes one of the significant destination points in Antalya province, known as the tourism capital of Turkey, in tourism activities. Additionally, if there are any factors hindering their participation, the aim is to identify and highlight them. Results, scientific novelty, practical significance. Research method was employed, and a face-to-face survey was conducted using a random sampling method between December 2022 and April 2023, reaching a total of 466 participants. Out of these, 33 surveys were used for pilot testing, and due to incomplete data, 384 surveys were entered into the SPSS software package for analysis. According to the findings, it was observed that 44.8% of the local community residing in urban and rural areas of Serik district had not had the opportunity to go on vacation in 2022 or earlier. In this context, it is evident that the most significant factor influencing the participants' inability to go on vacation is financial insufficiency. Therefore, the necessity of public and civil institutions and organizations supporting the local population with various holiday programs arises. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to integrate social tourism activities to the maximum extent possible in the tourism planning for the local community.

Turkish baths and bath culture have a very special place in the social life of Turkish society. In addition, due to the importance given by the Islamic religion to cleanliness and especially to cleaning with rivers, our baths are one of the indispensable architectural monuments of our social life. As in all civilizations, baths have an important place in Anatolian culture. Baths are divided into two as public baths and private baths. Public baths are used by the public, while private baths are baths that serve a limited number of people. In this study, the Yivli Minaret (Mevlevihane) Bath, located within the Yivli Minaret Complex in Antalya Kaleiçi, is discussed. The construction date of the bath, which is included in the group of private baths, is not known exactly. In 2019, extensive excavation work was carried out in the bath by the Antalya Museum. After the excavations, it was determined that new units belonging to the bath emerged. In the light of these findings, different suggestions about the original plan of the bath will be put forward than those known so far.

The main purpose of the present research is to examine the relationships between the level of tourists’ connectedness to nature (CTN) and their landscape preferences (LP). For this purpose, the study first measures the construct validity and reliability of the CTN scale developed by Mayer and Frantz (2004) to confirm its appropriateness for different cultures and the originally one-dimensional structure of the scale is tested. Second, the LPs of domestic and foreign tourists are determined from six different landscape pictures and a relationship is sought between the tourists’ CTN levels and LP. The primary data were gathered through surveys of foreign and domestic tourists staying in Antalya. The relationships between the CTN and LP were determined by multinomial logistic regression analysis (MLRA). According to the findings, as the level of tourists’ CTN increases, their preference levels for shopping malls and historical places also increase. It has also been determined that as the CTN increases, preferences for beaches increases, too. Women who prefer shopping malls and historical sites are less likely than men to prefer wildlife. Also, as the preference for historical sites increases, the CTN level increases, too. The results of the study will be beneficial for planners to manage the landscape in destinations and to use the resources effectively.

This paper calculates tourism source market structure indicators and investigates their impact on the international tourism demand for Antalya of Turkey. Tourism source market structure may influence tourism demand depending on its consequences regarding competitiveness and risk structure. To determine this influence, this paper estimates tourism demand functions within the framework of the two-stage system generalized method of moments (GMM). The tourism source market structure variables were calculated by considering the number of tourists by nationality and the estimations are based on the datasets of 37 source countries for 2001–2019 years. According to the calculated market structure indicators, the tourism source market concentrated in the early 2000s and diversified in the last years of the research period. Findings of the system GMM indicated that the tourism source market concentration boosts and diversification weakens the tourism demand for Antalya. In other words, tourism demand, which comes predominantly or intensively from a small number of countries, increases this demand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, with the development of technology, the number of studies on the need for energy and the possibilities of covering this need in a sustainable way has been increasing. The management of agricultural biomass and waste is cited as one of the challenges as well as a solution. Mersin and Antalya sites, where banana production is intensively practiced in Turkey, were selected as the study region. The potential amounts of energy values obtained from the waste generated during banana cultivation in the field area of study were calculated. The energy potential was calculated on the basis of the conversion of biogas that can be obtained from the waste. The values obtained were analyzed and compared with the levels of electricity used to determine the economic gains that can be achieved for Mersin and Antalya regions. The data on bananas used in study were obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute (for the years 2016–2020). It is calculated that 2884.43 MWh of electricity can be generated in Mersin and 2218.26 MWh in Antalya per 5 years from the waste generated during banana production. The values of the number of houses whose needs can be met with the calculated five-year potential electricity amount are 1237 in Mersin and 952 in Antalya. It can be considered that reusing the potential energy that can be obtained from banana waste, examined as material for energy, used in agricultural production will result in a positive impetus to agricultural activities. Energy obtained from banana waste can cover a very small amount of the electrical energy needs of agricultural production, ranging from 0.19% to 0.34%. However, it is concluded that the potential amount of energy to be obtained by recycling not only banana waste but also other agricultural and food waste will be even higher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a building material, limestone is affected salt and acid solutions resulting from intense weather conditions over time. In the present study, variations in capillary water absorption, porosity, physical changes, and internal rock decomposition mechanisms caused by salt crystallization and air pollutants (SO
x and NOx ) in sedimentary limestone from the Antalya region were explored. The mineralogical–petrographical and geochemical properties of the limestones were determined using polarizing light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray fluorescence methods. The variations in the capillary water absorption coefficient, weight, and pore distribution and size were also determined by mercury porosimetry (MIP). An increase in weight was observed in the salt and SA (150 ± 10 mL deionized water and 500 ± 10 mL H2 SO3 acid) weathering tests, but a reduction in weight was found under the action of NA (150 ± 10 mL deionized water and 500 ± 10 mL HNO3 acid). The reaction of SA with the limestones influenced the presence of calcium sulphite hemihydrate and gypsum on the rock surface, which affected weight gain. A decrease was observed in the weights of the limestones under the action of NA, and the porous structure seen in the microscale examination from SEM analysis supported a loss of material. The values for capillary water absorption increased in the limestones exposed to salt, SA, and NA. According to MIP analysis, the pore size distribution curves became multimodal, and the pore sizes varied in the studied limestones exposed to salt, SA, and NA. The findings of our study serve as an important guide for the use of limestone as a natural stone in regions with severe weather conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

COMMUNITY involvement , *SOCIAL tourism , *PEOPLE with social disabilities , *SUSTAINABLE development , *ECONOMIC development - Abstract
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Red soil is formed by weathering due to the effect of bedrock and various fluids in subtropical and tropical climate zones. The major and trace element geochemistry of red soil are important for understanding its environmental conditions and interpreting its genesis. This study aims to determine how red soil is formed in the study area, where magmatic rocks are located, and to determine their relationship with magmatic fluids. In this context, geochemical analyses were conducted, and index values, spatial distributions, and multivariate statistics of the samples were calculated. Methods: A total of 49 red soil samples collected from the Sutlegen Village in the Kas district of Antalya were subjected to geochemical analysis. The following major elements were found in the red soil samples: Al2O3, SiO2, Fe2O3, TiO2, CaO, MgO, K2O, P2O5, and SO3. The Al2O3–SiO2–Fe2O3 triangular diagram revealed that the samples underwent moderate laterization. Multivariate statistical analyses indicated that major element oxides of Al2O3, Fe2O3, and SiO2 behaved differently from other components and revealed that red soil formations were associated with magmatic fluids. The region is a potential area for economic bauxite resources. Detailed investigations should be conducted on mineral exploration for bauxite ore. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the underwater archaeological survey by Akdeniz University, a shipwreck has been found off the town of Adrasan in the Kumluca district of Antalya. The ship probably sank succumbing to hidden shoals near the coastline. The cargo consists exclusively of Eastern Sigillata A plates and bowls and can be dated between the Late Hellenistic and the Early Roman Imperial period. In this context, it is one of a rare class of shipwrecks of which the cargo consists of a clearly defined ceramic class. This trade ship's wreck lies with its thousands of plates and bowls located both in the rocky and sandy areas and below the seabed at a depth of 38–46 m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
