Com o objetivo de compreender o conhecimento, as preocupações e as expectativas de pacientes portadoras de câncer de mama em relação à mastectomia, entrevistou-se 11 mulheres internadas no pré-operatório da cirurgia, no Hospital das Clínicas de Fortaleza (CE), em dezembro de 2008. O método hermenêutico-dialético foi utilizado na análise dos discursos, sendo definidas três categorias temáticas: Conhecimento acerca da cirurgia, Sentimentos e expectativas em torno da mastectomia e a Retirada da mama. Constatou-se que a mulher passa por um pré-operatório estressante, com desconhecimento acerca da cirurgia, sente ansiedade e medo pelo que está por vir, além de sentimentos de pânico e choque diante da retirada da mama. Ressalta-se, portanto, a importância do papel educativo e do apoio emocional direcionados por toda a equipe que presta assistência a essas pacientes, de maneira a minimizar o drama que vivenciam.Con el objetivo de entender el conocimiento, las preocupaciones y expectativas de pacientes portadoras de cáncer de mama en relación a la mastectomía, fueron entrevistadas en el preoperatorio de la cirugía 11 mujeres internadas en el Hospital de Clínicas de Fortaleza-Ceará-Brasil, en el mes de diciembre de 2008. El método hermenéutico-dialéctico fue utilizado en el análisis de los discursos, definiéndose tres categorías temáticas: Conocimiento acerca de la cirugía, Sentimientos y expectativas en torno a la mastectomía y Extirpación mamaria. Se constató que la mujer pasa por un preoperatorio estresante, con desconocimiento al respecto de la cirugía, ansiedad y miedo de lo que está por venir, además de sentimientos de pánico y shock ante la extirpación de la mama. Se resalta, por lo tanto, la importancia del papel educativo y el apoyo emocional brindados por todo el equipo que atiende a tales pacientes, de manera tal de minimizar el drama que experimentan.The objective of this study was to understand the knowledge, concerns and expectations of patients suffering from breast cancer in relation to mastectomy. Interviews were performed with 11 women before their being submitted to surgery at the Hospital das Clínicas in Fortaleza (Ceará state) on December 2008. The hermeneutic-dialectical method was used for discourse analysis, and three theme categories were defined: Knowledge about the surgery, Feelings and expectations surrounding mastectomy, and Removing the breast. It was found that women go through a stressful preoperative period, lack knowledge about the surgery, experience anxiety and fear of what they should expect, as well as feelings of panic and shock before their breast is removed. It is, therefore, observed that the health team caring for those patients has an important role in education and in providing emotional support so as to minimize the tragedy those women are experiencing.

The content of the national scientific publications was analyzed quantitatively in the period 2000 to 2007, in databases BIREME, BDENF, LILACS has handled the consultation in oncology nursing review by the method of integration. Among the studies, 6 (85.7%) focused action of nursing care (education and health) and 1 (14.2%) focused in prevention of cancer. Among the types of cancer, the breast cancer is more focused in these studies (71.4%). Based on the results, 100.0% of authors make recommendations for change in clinical practice, 57.1% recommend the implementation of actions directed to the range of needs of patients and 42.8% recommend the deployment of nursing process in oncology nursing consultation. Thus, it appears that there is a need for more research in this area and great care in preparing the scientific method in order to provide quality scientific evidence with which to be implemented in our reality.

The breast cancer, in Brazil, has been constituted as a serious public health problem, not only by the crescent number of cases diagnosed each year, but also by the financial investment that is necessary to solve the issues of diagnosis and treatment. In front of the reality in our city, characterized by a crescent number of appearance of new cases of breast cancer in very advanced stages, it is necessary to realized a search that promotion the female population, basic knowledge related to the actions of precocious detection and risk factors for breast cancer. Aimed to evaluate actions for precocious detection and risk factors for breast cancer in women’s attended at a Basic Health Unit, Fortaleza, Ceará. It’s a quantitative study, transversal with a descriptive and analytical approach. The research will be developed in a Basic Health Unit in the Family, the Executive Regional Secretary III of the city of Fortaleza-Ce. The population of this study was based on the amount of attendance realized by nurses to women seeking gynecological consultations at UBS. The search will be realized after the marking of consultations, which has an mean number of 40 gynecological attendances per week, totaling 1920 women per year.After the statistical calculations its found the size of the sample, as such, women = 320. For data collection will be realized a semi-structured interviews with women who is in the waiting room, for gynecological attendance, as the day set for the realization of the collection. The treatment of the quantitative dates will be realized through the programs: Excel, Word and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) for Windows, version 16.0, which will be built the database, for analysis of the results.
