PurposeThis paper reports the development in Sweden during the last few years on shared print cooperation. In June 2022, 30 libraries signed a letter of intent on cooperation on preservation and withdrawal of print material. By taking joint responsibility for long-term preservation, libraries aim to secure access as well as diversity and breadth in the collections. Design/methodology/approachAs a first practical step, the working group is conducting a national collection analysis using metadata in the national catalog LIBRIS.FindingsThe paper presents the preliminary results of the collection analysis and discusses the next steps for the collaboration. Originality/valueThe Swedish collaboration is one of many European and international collaborations on print archiving, and as such being of interest to a global library field.

This article demonstrates how the innovation capacity in the public sector, such as in elderly care, can be recognized and enhanced if the daily experiences of the employees, i.e. what women are doing in their everyday work, are taken into account. Women working in elderly care encounter a number of challenges and have different strategies for solving them in order to provide good care for the elderly. These solutions are often non-technical and non-digital and, therefore, not regarded as “good ideas” and innovations. Asking for “ideas” and “potential innovations” prevents the staff from identifying these innovative solutions since they regard them as nothing special. However, when the point of departure is taken in everyday experiences, it is possible to challenge the male-dominated discourse on innovation and capture innovations. Consequently, this article suggests that innovation activities and innovation models in for instance the public sector should address and be grounded in experiences rather than “ideas”.

Contemporary society is characterized by rapid changes in the labor market, increased flow of information, and more opportunities to make choices in relation to education and career. Previous research has demonstrated how many young people in school don't think they get the support they need to make such choices. The overall aim of this article is to contribute to more in-depth knowledge of what kind of support and knowledge young adults describe as important in order to be able to make informed choices. This knowledge might help school to better support young people in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attitudes in relation to their education and career choices. The article is based on interviews with 25-year-old men and women. 23 interviews were conducted. In sum, the analysis indicates that guidance activities that aims to contribute to knowledge about the labor market, programs and courses and requirements for different education programs would probably be perceived as more fruitful by the young adults if they are organized in a combination of different levels, i.e. both as group activities (exhibitions, general information/discussion) and individual activities (personal information/discussion). Further, the authors demonstrate that roles and expectations between pupils, teachers and guidance counselors should be discussed and clarified.

The aim of this article is to describe the potential of combining norm critical design and ethnography in a collaborative project seeking to promote social change. In doing so the article will contribute with new perspectives on how design and ethnography can be practised in a joint effort between researchers and organisations. The article examines the following research questions: How can norm critical design and ethnography be used in a collaborative project seeking to promote change towards gender equality in an organisation? What distinguishes a norm critical design approach from other approaches using design and ethnography for intervention and social change? By taking their point of departure in a collaborative project with the Swedish fire and rescue service the authors demonstrate how a norm critical perspective on design in combination with ethnography provides a pedagogical tool for different stakeholders seeking to promote change in organisations. Even though a norm critical design approach like this shares the same interest in social change as more conventional ethnography and design projects do, there are some crucial and interesting differences when it comes to objectives and the collection of stakeholders that will be explored in this article.

The pulp and paper industry handles large amounts of energy and today produces the steam needed for the process and some of the required electricity. Several studies have shown that black liquor gasification and combined cycles increase the power production significantly compared to the traditional processes used today. It is of interest to investigate the performance when advanced gas turbines are integrated with next-generation pulp and paper mills. The present study focused on comparing the combined cycle with the integration of advanced gas turbines such as steam injected gas turbine (STIG) and evaporative gas turbine (EvGT) in pulp and paper mills. Two categories of simulations have been performed: (1) comparison of gasification of both black liquor and biomass connected to either a combined cycle or steam injected gas turbine with a heat recovery steam generator; (2) externally fired gas turbine in combination with the traditional recovery boiler. The energy demand of the pulp and paper mills is satisfied in all cases and the possibility to deliver a power surplus for external use is verified. The study investigates new system combinations of applications for advanced gas turbines.

Experiments show that enclosed air in a thin walled structure affects some modes of vibration significantly. Air coupling between vibrating sides of the structure cannot (always) be neglected and frequencies cannot be predicted if calculations are performed as if in a vacuum. As a first attempt to include the enclosed air in a FE model of a violin body, the elastic properties of the air are modelled as a set of one dimensional non-interacting elastic members (columns of air) connecting opposite sides of the orthotropic shell structure. This admittedly oversimplified (but easy to formulate) model must be used with great care, since it neglects the three-dimensional wave behaviour of the enclosed air. A lower limit of allowed frequencies is that which corresponds to a wavelength in air which is much greater than a characteristic length of the object. For the violin this lower limit is less than about 600 Hz. Optical modal analysis of the real, physical, violin model has been performed by using electronic holography. Calculated modes of vibration are compared with experimental ones. For the lowest eigenmodes a good agreement between measured and calculated frequencies is reached despite the simple air model used. Modal shapes remain surprisingly unaffected. For some engineering calculations the simple one-dimensional model might be used.

Studies regarding risk management in low cost country (LCC) sourcing are limited considering the dramatic increase in direct sourcing from LCC. The purpose of this paper is to present supplier risk management mechanisms in sourcing directly from China. An in-depth case study serves to identify the perceived risks in sourcing directly from China. This is followed by exploratory studies with nine industrial product companies to study supplier risk management. Identified perceived risks are classified as performance and relational risks managed by trust and control mechanisms. Involving Chinese employees, local presence and constant communication are three interrelated antecedents for managing risks. Prioritised customer, cross-functional team, supplier development and performance feedback are identified as four trust based risk management mechanisms. Performance measurement, clarity of specifications, supplier selection and contractual agreements are the four control based risk management mechanisms. Trust precedes control and determines the effectiveness of control, though both are pursued simultaneously.
