PurposeThis article presents fieldwork perspectives gained from conducting qualitative research among Bangladeshi immigrant communities in Lisbon (Portugal), Boston (Massachusetts – USA) and Brussels (Belgium). This discussion will primarily benefit those who conduct, or are interested in, undertaking qualitative research with Bangladeshi immigrants, one of the largest immigrant communities represented globally.Design/methodology/approachThe author conducted 32 semi-structured interviews using a qualitative descriptive approach.FindingsThe author discusses and demonstrates effective strategies to acquire meaningful insights from fieldwork while interviewing Bangladeshi immigrants. Though maintaining standard criteria for producing credible qualitative research is crucial, the adoption of a flexible and dynamic approach is also necessary. The article highlights versatile approaches taken in the following four areas: (1) establishing community presence, (2) managing informed consent, (3) adjusting research instruments and protocols, and (4) dealing with unexpected situations during fieldwork. Moreover, these elements are examined within the context of navigating the role and positionality of the researcher.Research limitations/implicationsThe generalizability of these techniques is limited to this study, but similar issues in conducting qualitative research with Bangladeshi communities and other immigrant groups can be found.Originality/valueThis paper addresses a gap in the discussion of fieldwork strategies for conducting qualitative research with Bangladeshi immigrant communities. Practical knowledge for researchers facilitating qualitative research with this group is relatively scarce despite the growing presence of these communities globally.

The increasing rate of inappropriate Apps in Google Play Store is a matter of concern as it is highly unethical and the increasing rate is alarming. The prime focus of the research is to explore the responsible determinants behind developing inappropriate apps in Google Play Store and the motive behind developing those apps. Applying the determinants and motive the researchers will construct a dynamic behavioral pattern which will be very understandable and helpful for the community who use Google Play Store. The study worked on quantitative data and it’s a descriptive study. So, a personal interview was done to collect the data. After analyzing the data some reasonable determinants were detected and they are Large users’ groups of inappropriate apps, easy money from ads, anonymity, and out of curiosity of the developers, ignorance of users of inappropriate apps. The study also found out less effort in developing inappropriate apps and not getting enough response to other creative develop are also a reason for developing inappropriate apps in Google Play Store. Taking the determinants, a dynamic behavioral pattern was offered and a connection between the determinants was measured. The dynamic behavioral pattern explores how determinants accelerate the rate of developing inappropriate apps. The result achieves the actual reason behind developing inappropriate Bangla apps in Google Play Store. This study can be helpful for not only the developers who involve in this industry but also the users of Google Play Stores.

The School I Deserve: Six Young Refugees and Their Fight for Equality in America (ISBN-10: 0807024988) was written by Jo Napolitano who dedicated it to all the children from foreign lands who call America home. The publication was published in 2021 by Beacon Press. It is about a sensitive issue, supported by evidence, instances and names. It centres on the struggles of six refugee students in District Lankestire, trying to receive regular education who indisputably represent the rest of the refugee aspirants across the country. The School I Deserve is a sharp critique of the American refugee policies in general and education measures in particular regarding two schools McCaskey and alternate school, Phoenix. It explains the vital connection between education and migration. Though the book largely whirls around the lives of Khadidja and Mahamed, other refugee aspirants seek justice and play a significant role in the proceedings of the lawsuit.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the gold standard curative therapy for infants and children with many inborn errors of immunity (IEI), but adolescents and adults with IEI are rarely referred for transplant. Lack of published HSCT outcome data outside small, single-center studies and perceived high risk of transplant-related mortality have delayed the adoption of HSCT for IEI patients presenting or developing significant organ damage later in life. This large retrospective, multicenter HSCT outcome study reports on 329 IEI patients (age range, 15-62.5 years at HSCT). Patients underwent first HSCT between 2000 and 2019. Primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS). We also evaluated the influence of IEI-subgroup and IEI-specific risk factors at HSCT, including infections, bronchiectasis, colitis, malignancy, inflammatory lung disease, splenectomy, hepatic dysfunction, and systemic immunosuppression. At a median follow-up of 44.3 months, the estimated OS at 1 and 5 years post-HSCT for all patients was 78% and 71%, and EFS was 65% and 62%, respectively, with low rates of severe acute (8%) or extensive chronic (7%) graft-versus-host disease. On univariate analysis, OS and EFS were inferior in patients with primary antibody deficiency, bronchiectasis, prior splenectomy, hepatic comorbidity, and higher hematopoietic cell transplant comorbidity index scores. On multivariable analysis, EFS was inferior in those with a higher number of IEI-associated complications. Neither age nor donor had a significant effect on OS or EFS. BackgroundThe Surviving Sepsis Campaign suggested preferential resuscitation with balanced crystalloids, such as Lactated Ringer’s (LR), although the level of recommendation was weak, and the quality of evidence was low. Past studies reported an association of unbalanced solutions, such as normal saline (NS), with increased AKI risks, metabolic acidosis, and prolonged ICU stay, although some of the findings are conflicting. We have compared the outcomes with the preferential use of normal saline vs. ringer’s lactate in a cohort of sepsis patients.MethodWe performed a retrospective cohort analysis of patients visiting the ED of 19 different Mayo Clinic sites between August 2018 to November 2020 with sepsis and receiving at least 30 mL/kg fluid in the first 6 h. Patients were divided into two cohorts based on the type of resuscitation fluid (LR vs. NS) and propensity-matching was done based on clinical characteristics as well as fluid amount (with 5 ml/kg). Single variable logistic regression (categorical outcomes) and Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to compare the primary and secondary outcomes between the 2 groups.ResultsOut of 2022 patients meeting our inclusion criteria; 1,428 (70.6%) received NS, and 594 (29.4%) received LR as the predominant fluid (>30 mL/kg). Patients receiving predominantly NS were more likely to be male and older in age. The LR cohort had a higher BMI, lactate level and incidence of septic shock. Propensity-matched analysis did not show a difference in 30-day and in-hospital mortality rate, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, or CRRT requirement. We did observe longer hospital LOS in the LR group (median 5 vs. 4 days, p = 0.047 and higher requirement for ICU post-admission (OR: 0.70; 95% CI: 0.51–0.96; p = 0.026) in the NS group. However, these did not remain statistically significant after adjustment for multiple testing.ConclusionIn our matched cohort, we did not show any statistically significant difference in mortality rates, hospital LOS, ICU admission after diagnosis, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy and RRT between sepsis patients receiving lactated ringers and normal saline as predominant resuscitation fluid. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to solidify the current guidelines on the use of balanced crystalloids.

A gas leakage detector is a device for detecting gases in an area that is often used in a security system. This type of equipment is used to detect gas leakage or another emission. A gas warning device can alert operators in the vicinity of a possible gas leak and enable them to escape. The device is important because many gases can be harmful to organic life, such as humans or animals. This can be used to detect flammable, flammable, and toxic gases, as well as a lack of oxygen. Identifying potentially dangerous gas leaks through sensors. These sensors often use an audible alarm to alert people when dangerous gas has been detected. The purpose of this paper is to propose and discuss the design of an IoT-based gas leakage detection system that can automatically detect and warn gas leaks. The proposed system also includes a warning system for users. The system is based on sensors that can easily detect gas leaks.

Approximation of the solution of the differential equations is done by Bernoulli polynomial. Bernoulli polynomial and operational matrix of differentiation were used in reducing differential equations into algebraic equations. The method and its application is demonstrated through illustrative examples and found that the method is computationally attractive. The Bernoulli polynomial method has been applied to compare the numerical solution of differential equations with the existing method of Rationalized Haar Function.

Perceived cancer-related stigma can affect mental health and potentially treatment choices for patients with cancer. Nevertheless, perceived stigma is not very well understood in Asia. This study investigated across six developing Asian countries: (1) the prevalence of perceived stigma among advanced cancer patients, (2) its risk factors, and (3) its association with patient treatment preferences.This cross-sectional study recruited patients receiving oncology care across major hospitals in Bangladesh, China, India, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Participants (N = 1358) were adults diagnosed with stage IV metastatic solid cancer who completed self-reported surveys. Multi-variable logistic regression and ordered logit models examined the associations with perceived stigma and variables of interest.Across the countries, 35%, 95% CI [32%, 38%] of patients reported experiencing at least one facet of cancer-related stigma often or always, while 60% [57%, 63%] reported it occurring occasionally. Top-endorsed facets of perceived stigma across the Asian countries suggest a distinct pattern. Having knowingly engaged in health-risk behaviours (OR = 2.03-2.24, 95% CI [1.14-1.19, 3.43-4.41]), unemployment (2.64 [1.67, 4.19]) and body image change (1.57 [1.00, 2.45]) were associated with higher odds of perceived stigma, while time mitigated perceived stigma (0.49-0.65 [0.30-0.45, 0.76-0.92]). Perceived stigma was associated with lower odds of preference for life-extending treatments, although the associations did not hold up in the adjusted model.Perceived stigma is unique among Asian advanced cancer patients. Stigma is important to assess and address, taking into consideration the various sociodemographic, clinical and psychological factors of cancer patients.
