Abstract

Cattle are animals that stay in the herd for a large period of the day in the open air pasture. This daily routine leaves them exposed and susceptible to infectious diseases. One of them is the Bovine Parasitic Sadness which is considered one of the greatest cattle health problems due its high rate of mortality and morbidity. In this work preliminary results are presented from calf inoculated with anaplasmosis. Blood samples were collected and analyzed through Fourier Transform Near Infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR). The animal was monitored for 60 days until its recovery. This exploratory work shows the potentiality of the FT-NIR in the detection, follow-up and recovery of the anaplasmosis. The possibility of prevention of this disease in the herd via a fast optical analysis may bring a great breakthrough in disease control in dairy and beef cattle. 36. Comparison of the levels of depression and anxiety during the first and fourth waves of coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic in Brazil.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To compare the levels of depression, anxiety, physical activity, and mobility restrictions between the first wave in June 2020 and the fourth wave in January 2022 of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Brazil. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Brazilian citizens answered a self-administered questionnaire that included questions related to personal information, mobility restriction levels, physical activity levels, and the status of mood disorders in June 2020 (n=1853) and January 2022 (n=728). RESULTS: The levels of mobility restrictions (p<0.001), anxiety (p<0.001), and depression (p<0.001) significantly decreased from 2020 to 2022. In June 2020, 23.2% of the participants presented moderate to severe anxiety, and in January 2022, this percentage decreased to 14.8%. In June 2020, 29.6% of the participants presented moderate to severe depressive symptoms, and in January 2022 this percentage decreased to 19.3%. On the contrary, physical activity levels significantly increased between 2020 and 2022 (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: During the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, participants were less restricted and more physically active than in the first wave. Furthermore, anxiety and depression levels were significantly lower in the fourth wave than in the first wave. Despite this reduction, levels of anxiety and depression remain high; therefore, the authors suggest measures to encourage physical activity and promote mental health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

40. FTIR-ATR spectroscopy as a tool for the rapid detection of adulterations in butter cheeses

Abstract

This study assessed the potential application of Fourier-Transformed Infrared spectroscopy using AttenuatedTotal Reflectance (FTIR-ATR) coupled with multivariate approaches to characterize and detect adulterations inbutter cheeses (BC) with soybean oil (SO). In general, as the adulterations were performed, there is a decrease inband intensities related to proteins, while for most bands related to lipid, the substitution of butter oil (BO) bySO led to increases in their intensities up to 70% of fraud. The band near 3007 cm−1was evinced only inadulterated cheeses. Principal component analysis differentiated the samples validating the spectral observa-tions. A partial least squares model allowed the prediction of the percentage of SO added into the samples withlow residuals. Abstract

In the present work, thermal and nonlinear properties of tellurite glasses doped with Tm2O3 were investigated by means of thermal lens, thermal relaxation and z-scan measurements. The composition of the samples was (78 − x) TeO2 + 4.5 Bi2O3 + 5.5 ZnO + 10.5 Li2O + 1.5 Nb2O5 + xTm2O3 (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mol%). Thermal diffusivity (D), specific heat (ρc), thermal conductivity (K) and optical path change with temperature (ds/dT) were determined as a function of Tm3+ concentration. Concerning thermal–optical properties, our results show that the 0.5 mol% Tm doped is the most suitable sample for laser applications as it presented the lowest ds/dT and highest thermal diffusivity (conductivity). Third-order nonlinearities were observed and discussed in 1.0 and 1.5 mol% samples. The nonlinear indices (n2) found were 1.16 × 10−13 and 3.89 × 10−13 cm2 W−1, respectively. The data obtained show that the Tm3+-doped TBZLN glasses have potential for future opto-electronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

43. Spectroscopic investigations on Yb3+doped and Pr3+/Yb3+codoped tellurite glasses for photonic applications

Abstract

In this work, we report on structural and spectroscopic properties of Yb3+doped and Pr3+/Yb3+co-doped TeO2-Bi2O3-ZnO-Li2O-Nb2O5(TBZLN) tellurite glasses. Bending and stretching modes of TeO2and Te–OH bond (strong and weak) were analysed from the deconvolution of observed Raman and FT-IR spectra. Based on the absorption measurements, the energy bands of Yb3+and Pr3+ions are assigned. The spectroscopic properties for the radiative transitions of Yb3+and Pr3+ions were reported using McCumber and Judd-Ofelt theories. Visible emission bands originating from 3P1and 3P0to lower lying levels of Pr3+were registered under 447 nm excitation. The emission band around 1334 nm assigned to the Pr3: 1G4→3H5was observed when excited at 980 nm. The stimulated emission cross-section (σemi(λ)) and effective linewidth (Δλeff) for the 3P1→3H6, 3P1→3H5, 3P0→3H6, 3P0→3F2, 3P1→3F3, 3P1→3F4, 3P0→3F4and 1G4→3H5transitions of Pr3+are reported. Upconversion luminescence in Pr3+/Yb3+co-doped glass upon 980 nm excitation was measured. Possible resonant transfer processes between Yb3+and Pr3+ions are presented and discussed. The chromaticity co-ordinates were also evaluated from the visible emission spectra showing that Pr3+/Yb3+co-doped glass may be suitable for the development of yellow-orange (λexc = 447 nm) and near white light (λexc = 980 nm) emitting devices in photonics.

44. Influência de tratamento térmico e sistemas de embalagens na qualidade de lichia ‘Bengal’

Abstract

Estudaram-se oito tratamentos quanto à eficiência de banhos hidrotérmicos com ou sem adição de produtos químicos na conservação da qualidade de lichias acondicionadas em bandejas de PET com tampa (BT) e cobertas com filme de PVC de 15 mm (BF), sendo submetidas a banhos hidrotérmicos, tais como:T1-BT e T2-BF – sem tratamento; T3-BT- água a 55°C por 20 s; T4-BF- água a 55°C por 20 s; T5- BT- água a 55°C por 10 s e em ácido cítrico 60% por 10 s; T6-BF- água a 55°C por 10 s e banho de ácido cítrico 60% por 10 s ; T7-BT- ácido cítrico 60% por 20 s; T8-BF-ácido cítrico 60% por 20 s. Avaliaram-se as principais alterações físicas, químicas, sensoriais e presença de doença em lichias armazenadas a 4ºC e a 25°C. De forma geral, ao final do estudo, as lichias ficaram ligeiramente menos ácidas, com leve aumento no pH e com discreta redução de sólidos solúveis, e após dois dias a 25°C todos os tratamentos apresentaram infestação por fungos.Os tratamentos T5, T6, T7 e T8 foram considerados inaceitáveis (≥4) a partir de 15 dias; T1, T2, T3 e T4 aceitáveis até 21 dias, pela avaliação visual. Quanto à manutenção da cor vermelha, os melhores tratamentos foram T1 e T4. O tratamento T2 apresentou os maiores valores de firmeza da casca, mostrando que o filme de PVC protegeu contra a perda de firmeza, de umidade e ao murchamento. A menor perda de massa foi nos tratamentos T6 e T8 (0,4%), ambos com filme de PVC, e a maior perda de massa foi nas amostras T5 (5,6%) acondicionadas nas bandejas perfuradas, além de apresentar menor firmeza na casca.
