The automotive industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in terms of usage of technology. Most of the real time systems in automobiles are hard real time in nature due to the stringent timing requirements. As per the Automotive Standard Architecture (AUTOSAR), most of the safety critical applications are run using fixed priority scheduling techniques due to its highly deterministic and predictable nature. But, dynamic schedulers are preferred over static due to its increased flexibility and guarantees of time constraints. The latest AUTOSAR version supports dynamic scheduler for non-safety critical applications. This paper provides a performance comparison of fixed priority and dynamic priority scheduling algorithms for automotive subsystems.
