Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome is a rare condition of unknown frequency resulting from brain injury, especially in early life, due to a multitude of causes. We present the case of a 2-year-old, developmentally normal female who presented with one episode of unprovoked generalized tonic-clonic seizures. This child had a history of complex febrile seizures at 1.5 years of age and was started on levetiracetam (20 mg/kg/day). During the current evaluation, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain showed left hemi cerebral atrophy. The literature review revealed that these findings are consistent with Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome. The child was discharged with oral levetiracetam (30 mg/kg/day) and counseling from parents regarding the need for long-term treatment and follow-up. Due to its rarity, Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome may easily be missed by the treating physician. Knowledge of its radio-imaging features enables timely and accurate diagnosis, allowing appropriate management.

Background: The pathology of the maxillary sinus (MS) can be treated using the prelacrimal recess approach, an intranasal method for accessing the MS. This approach exhibits significant individual variations in its prevalence and varying widths. Aim: To determine the occurrence of the prelacrimal recess (PLR) in the MS and explore its morphological variations. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 225 cone beam computed tomography scans obtained from the department’s archives. The patients ranged in age from 18 to 78. Statistical analysis were conducted to evaluate the frequency of PLR occurrence in the MS. Data from both sides were compared between males and females. Results: The analysis of the data revealed that PLR was present in 84.9% of patients with MS. Each patient exhibited asymmetry between the left and right sides. Although PLR was less likely to occur in women, the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The anatomical variations of the PLR in individuals should be considered prior to procedures to prevent complications.

Background: In India, the population of above 60 years was approximately 8.2% in 2011, which is expected to rise to 11.6% by 2026. Due to epidemiological transition of diseases, morbidity of chronic nature will increase with increase of elderly population and it will affect the elderly quality of life (QOL). Aim: This study made an attempt to capture health-related quality of life HRQOL and its correlates among elderly subjects in most backward district of India. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Nagina for a duration of 4 months and included 430 elderly (60 years or above) dwelling in the same place for more than 1 year as participants. The information on sociodemographic details, WHOQOL-BREF scale details and history of chronic diseases or disorders was collected by multipurpose health workers female using a pretested, predesigned, standardized questionnaire. An association between variables and poor quality of life was significant if the P value was less than 0.05. Results: Nearly half of study participants were living in joint families (45.3%) and 67.7% of elderly gave history of chronic morbidity. There were nearly half of participants (48.8%) with poor QoL in physical health domain. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that older age, male, no schooling, without spouse, lower economic status and chronic disorder were independently associated with low QOL score. Conclusion: The study reported that nearly half of the elderly (46.7%) had poor health QoL. The family physicians shall provide preventive and promotive measures to reduce the chronic morbidity among elderly to improve QOL.

Background: In India mother related mortalities and morbidities are still significantly higher even after having various maternal program and schemes at regional and national level which reflects that such services are being under-utilized. Aim: The current study focused in assessing utilization pattern of maternal health services and associated factors in Nuh (Mewat). Methods: This present cross-sectional study was done for one year (2015-16) among mothers (15-49 years) under field practice area, PHC Taoru with minimum calculated sample as 645. The selection of participants was made using simple random sampling technique from available randomized list of villages. Data was collected by home-to-home visits using pretested, predesigned, standardized questionnaire and during analysis an association between variables was considered as significant if P < 0.05. Results: Out of 645 participants, 632 provided consent for inclusion into study. Any ANC and full ANC services was made by only 58.3% and 11.7% of participants respectively. More than half of the participants (52.7%) had suffered from pregnancy related complications. Variables such as lower age group, low decision-making capacity were significantly associated with not obtaining full ANC services (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In the present study major determinants of a women which influence utilization of maternal health care service includes their age, literacy status, parity, socioeconomic status and occupation. Such determinants shall be considered for upcoming intervention aiming to bring attitudinal changes and concurrently leading to improved and enhanced usage of maternal health care services.

Indiscriminate application of pesticides in paddy crop field soil to enhance paddy production could cause adverse impact on the both soil fertility and bacterial communities. The present study aimed to isolate bacteria prevalent in Lambdacyhalothrin exposed soil to determine their Lambdacyhalothrin degrading ability and assay the degraded metabolites. The observations registered in this study revealed that the dominant bacteria isolated from paddy crop field soil were Bacillus cereus and Aneurinibacillus migulanus. These bacteria were inoculated in soil spiked with Lambdacyhalothrin. After 36 hours of inocubation, the extract were analysed by GCMS. Lambdacyhalothrin degradation was accelerated by Aneurinibacillus migulanus (100 % of pesticide degraded compared to Bacillus cereus 94.09 % and control 55.2 % ). Thus Aneurinibacillus migulanus could be the used as bioagents to degrade lambdacyhalothrin.

The indiscriminate application of pesticides to increase crop production could have adverse impact on the biota. Profenofos is an organophosphate pesticide used to kill flying, crawling, chewing and sucking insects in paddy cultivation. The present research was designed to isolate the bacteria prevalent in profenofos exposed paddy crop field soil and to evaluate their potential to degrade profenofos in soil under laboratory conditions. Bacillus cereus and Aneurinibacillus migulanus were the dominant bacteria. Among them, Aneurinibacillus migulanus accelerated the degradation of profenofos within 36 hour when compared to the control. 1,3- dimethyl benzene and 4-phenyl but-3-ene-lyne were obtained as degraded products of profenofos in control, which were not detected in soil exposed to Bacillus cereus and Aneurinibacillus migulanus. On the other hand, n-propyl benzene was obtained as degraded metabolite in soil exposed bacteria, which were not detected in the control. Isopropyl benzene was detected in soil exposed to Bacillus cereus and 1,2,3-4-tetra methyl benzene was detected in soil exposed to Aneurinibacillus migulanus as byproducts of profenofos degradation when compared to the control. Thus, these bacteria could play a vital role in degrading profenofos in soil.
