We demonstrate the influence of damping and field-like torques in the magnon-photon coupling process by classically integrating the generalized Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation with RLC equation in which a phase correlation between dynamic magnetization and microwave current through combined Amp\`ere and Faraday effects are considered. We show that the gap between two hybridized modes can be controlled in samples with damping parameter in the order of $10^{-3}$ by changing the direction of the dc current density $J$ if a certain threshold is reached. Our results suggest that an experimental realization of the proposed magnon-photon coupling control mechanism is feasible in yttrium iron garnet/Pt hybrid structures.

We demonstrate direct probing of strong magnon–photon coupling using Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy in a planar geometry. The magnonic hybrid system comprises a split-ring resonator loaded with epitaxial yttrium iron garnet thin films of 200 nm and 2.46 μm thickness. The BLS measurements are combined with microwave spectroscopy measurements where both biasing magnetic field and microwave excitation frequency are varied. The cooperativity for the 200 nm-thick YIG films is 1.1, and larger cooperativity of 29.1 is found for the 2.46 μm-thick YIG film. We show that BLS is advantageous for probing the magnonic character of magnon–photon polaritons, while microwave absorption is more sensitive to the photonic character of the hybrid excitation. A miniaturized, planar device design is imperative for the potential integration of magnonic hybrid systems in future coherent information technologies, and our results are a first stepping stone in this regard. Furthermore, successfully detecting the magnonic hybrid excitation by BLS is an essential step for the up-conversion of quantum signals from the microwave to the optical regime in hybrid quantum systems.

Recently, a stock price model is proposed by A. Mahata et al. [Physica A, 574, 126008 (2021)] to understand the effect of COVID-19 on stock market. It describes V- and L-shaped recovery of the stocks and indices, but fails to simulate the U- and Swoosh-shaped recovery that arises due to sharp crisis and prolong drop followed by quick recovery (U-shaped) or slow recovery for longer period (Swoosh-shaped recovery). We propose a modified model by introducing a new variable $\theta$ that quantifies the sentiment of the investors. $\theta=+1,~0,~-1$ for positive, neutral and negative sentiment, respectively. The model explains the movement of sectoral indices with positive $\phi$ showing U- and Swoosh-shaped recovery. The simulation using synthetic fund-flow ($\Psi_{st}$) with different shock lengths ($T_S$), $\phi$, negative sentiment period ($T_N$) and portion of fund-flow ($\lambda$) during recovery period show U- and Swoosh-shaped recovery. The results show that the recovery of the indices with positive $\phi$ becomes very weak with the extended $T_S$ and $T_N$. The stocks with higher $\phi$ and $\lambda$ recover quickly. The simulation of the Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial and Nifty Realty show U-shaped recovery and Nifty IT shows Swoosh-shaped recovery. The simulation result is consistent with the real stock price movement. The time-scale ($\tau$) of the shock and recovery of these indices during the COVID-19 are consistent with the time duration of the change of negative sentiment from the onset of the COVID-19. This study may help the investors to plan their investment during different crises.

We report on broadband and in-plane angle dependent ferromagnetic resonance measurements of MnN (30 nm)/CoFeB ( t CoFeB ) exchange bias bilayer systems with CoFeB thicknesses ranging from 5 to 20 nm. We find that the strong unidirectional anisotropy in this system is accompanied by a strong uniaxial in-plane anisotropy and a small interfacial perpendicular anisotropy ( K ⊥ , i = 0.043 ± 0.001 erg / cm 2 ). The strength of the interfacial exchange bias coupling in this system Δ σ eb = 0.193 ± 0.005 erg / cm 2 is only 2.5 times larger than the interfacial uniaxial coupling strength Δ σ u = 0.076 ± 0.003 erg / cm 2 . The relaxation in this system also shows a strong unidirectional and uniaxial in-plane anisotropy. While the observed thickness dependence of the uniaxial anisotropy of the relaxation is consistent with an interfacial two-magnon scattering contribution, we find that this is not the case for the unidirectional relaxation.

A sudden fall of stock prices happens during a pandemic due to the panic sell-off by the investors. Such a sell-off may continue for more than a day, leading to a significant crash in the stock price or, more specifically, an extreme event (EE). In this paper, Hilbert-Huang transformation and a structural break analysis (SBA) have been applied to identify and characterize an EE in the stock market due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hilbert spectrum shows a maximum energy concentration at the time of an EE, and hence, it is useful to identify such an event. The EE's significant energy concentration is more than four times the standard deviation above the mean energy of the normal fluctuation of stock prices. A statistical significance test for the intrinsic mode functions is applied, and the test found that the signal is not noisy. The degree of nonstationarity test shows that the indices and stock prices are nonstationary. We identify the time of influence of the EE on the stock price by using SBA. Furthermore, we have identified the time scale ( τ) of the shock and recovery of the stock price during the EE using the intrinsic mode function obtained from the empirical mode decomposition technique. The quality stocks with V-shape recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic have definite τ of shock and recovery, whereas the stressed stocks with L-shape recovery have no definite τ. The identification of τ of shock and recovery during an EE will help investors to differentiate between quality and stressed stocks. These studies will help investors to make appropriate investment decisions.

We report on the experimental investigation of the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in $\mathrm{Pt}/{[\mathrm{Co}/\mathrm{Ni}]}_{\mathrm{N}}/\mathrm{Ir}$ multilayers. Broadband ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) and polar angle dependent FMR measurements reveal the presence of a strong fourth-order contribution to the perpendicular anisotropy. By numerically solving the Smit-Beljers relation, we are able to fit the polar angle dependence of the resonance field and extract both the second and fourth-order anisotropy constants. While this model provides a qualitative description for all samples, we note that, for samples near or in the easy cone state of the phase diagram, systematic deviations emerge in the polar angle dependent data. The exchange stiffness of the multilayers is found to be lower than the weighted average of the exchange stiffness reported for Co and Ni in the literature. We find that the effective Gilbert damping scales with the inverse multilayer thickness, indicating a significant interfacial contribution to the damping process.

The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new and novel risk factor, leads to the stock price crash due to the investors’ rapid and synchronous sell-off. However, within a short period, the quality sectors start recovering from the bottom. A stock price model has been developed to capture the price dynamics during shock and recovery phases of such crisis. The main variable and parameter of the model are the net fund flow ( Ψ t ) due to institutional investors, and financial antifragility ( ϕ ) of a company, respectively. We assume that during the crash, the stock price fall is independent of the ϕ . We study the effects of shock length ( T S ) and ϕ on the stock price during the crisis period using the Ψ t obtained from both the synthetic fund flow data and real fund flow data. We observed that the possibility of recovery of stock with ϕ > 0 , termed as quality stock, decreases with an increase in T S beyond a specific period. A quality stock with higher ϕ shows V-shape recovery and outperform others. The T S and recovery period of quality stock are almost equal in the Indian market. Financially stressed stocks, i.e., the stocks with ϕ 0 , show L-shape recovery during the pandemic. The stock data and model analysis show that the investors, in the uncertainty like COVID-19, invest in the quality stocks to restructure their portfolio to reduce the risk. The study may help the investors to make the right investment decision during a crisis.

To develop low-moment, low-damping metallic ferromagnets for power-efficient spintronic devices, it is crucial to understand how magnetic relaxation is impacted by the addition of nonmagnetic elements. Here, we compare magnetic relaxation in epitaxial Fe films alloyed with light nonmagnetic elements of V and Al. FeV alloys exhibit lower intrinsic damping compared to pure Fe, reduced by nearly a factor of 2, whereas damping in FeAl alloys increases with Al content. Our experimental and computational results indicate that reducing the density of states at the Fermi level, rather than the average atomic number, has a more significant impact in lowering damping in Fe alloyed with light elements. Moreover, FeV is confirmed to exhibit an intrinsic Gilbert damping parameter of $\simeq$0.001, among the lowest ever reported for ferromagnetic metals., 28 pages, 9 figures

We examine the substructures of magnetic domain walls (DWs) in [Pt/(Co/Ni)$_M$/Ir]$_N$ multi-layers using a combination of micromagnetic theory and Lorentz transmission electron microscopy (LTEM). Thermal stability calculations of Q=$\pm$1 substructures (2-$\pi$ vertical Bloch lines (VBLs) and DW skyrmions) were performed using a geodesic nudged elastic band (GNEB) model, which supports their metastability at room temperature. Experimental variation in strength of the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and film thickness reveals conditions under which these substructures are present and enables the formation of a magnetic phase diagram. Reduced thickness is found to favor Q=$\pm$1 substructures likely due to the suppression of hybrid DWs. The results from this study provide an important framework for examining 1-D DW substructures in chiral magnetic materials.

During any unique crisis, panic sell-off leads to a massive stock market crash that may continue for more than a day, termed as mainshock. The effect of a mainshock in the form of aftershocks can be felt throughout the recovery phase of stock price. As the market remains in stress during recovery, any small perturbation leads to a relatively smaller aftershock. The duration of the recovery phase has been estimated using structural break analysis. We have carried out statistical analyses of the 1987 stock market crash, 2008 financial crisis and 2020 COVID-19 pandemic considering the actual crash-times of the mainshock and aftershocks. Earlier, such analyses were done considering an absolute one-day return, which cannot capture a crash properly. The results show that the mainshock and aftershock in the stock market follow the Gutenberg-Richter (GR) power law. Further, we obtained a higher $\beta$ value for the COVID-19 crash compared to the financial-crisis-2008 from the GR law. This implies that the recovery of stock price during COVID-19 may be faster than the financial-crisis-2008. The result is consistent with the present recovery of the market from the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis shows that the high magnitude aftershocks are rare, and low magnitude aftershocks are frequent during the recovery phase. The analysis also shows that the distribution $P(\tau_i)$ follows the generalized Pareto distribution, i.e., $\displaystyle~P(\tau_i)\propto\frac{1}{\{1+\lambda(q-1)\tau_i\}^{\frac{1}{(q-1)}}}$, where $\lambda$ and $q$ are constants and $\tau_i$ is the inter-occurrence time. Magnetic damping impacts essential dynamics for spintronic device applications, but its fundamental mechanisms in various materials – including simple ferromagnetic metals – have yet to be understood. Here, we experimentally correlate damping with structural and transport properties of epitaxial thin films of Fe. At room temperature, the effective Gilbert damping parameter is independent of whether these films are coherently strained or partially relaxed. However, at low temperature, we find that coherently strained Fe films with higher crystalline quality and conductivity exhibit higher damping. The enhancement of low-temperature damping is greater than that from classical eddy current loss. Our observation of such conductivity-like damping, possibly governed by the intraband scattering mechanism [1], provides fundamental insight into the role of crystallinity in damping in ferromagnetic metals. Iron oxide superparticles referring to a cluster of smaller nanoparticles have recently attracted much attention because of their enhanced magnetic moments but maintaining superparamagnetic behavior. In this study, iron oxide superparticles have been synthesized using a solvothermal method in the presence of six different polymers (e.g., sodium polyacrylate, pectin sodium alginate, chitosan oligosaccharides, polyethylene glycol, and polyvinylpyrrolidine). The functional group variation in these polymers affected their interactions with precursor iron ions, and subsequently influenced crystalline grain sizes within superparticles and their magnetic properties. These superparticles were extensively characterized by transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry.

We demonstrate the formation of metastable N\'eel-type skyrmion arrays in Pt/Co/Ni/Ir multi-layers at zero-field following \textit{ex situ} application of an in-plane magnetic field using Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. The resultant skyrmion texture is found to depend on both the strength and misorientation of the applied field as well as the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. To demonstrate the importance of the applied field angle, we leverage bend contours in the specimens which coincide with transition regions between skyrmion and labyrinth patterns. Subsequent application of a perpendicular magnetic field near these regions reveals the unusual situation where skyrmions with opposite magnetic polarities are stabilized in close proximity.

Confirming the origin of Gilbert damping by experiment has remained a challenge for many decades, even for simple ferromagnetic metals. In this Letter, we experimentally identify Gilbert damping that increases with decreasing electronic scattering in epitaxial thin films of pure Fe. This observation of conductivity-like damping, which cannot be accounted for by classical eddy current loss, is in excellent quantitative agreement with theoretical predictions of Gilbert damping due to intraband scattering. Our results resolve the longstanding question about a fundamental damping mechanism and offer hints for engineering low-loss magnetic metals for cryogenic spintronics and quantum devices.

It is well established that the spin-orbit interaction in heavy metal/ferromagnet heterostructures leads to a significant interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), which modifies the internal structure of magnetic domain walls (DWs) to favor N\'eel- over Bloch-type configurations. However, the impact of such a transition on the structure and stability of internal DW defects (e.g., vertical Bloch lines) needs to be explored. We present a combination of analytical and micromagnetic calculations to describe a type of topological excitation called a DW skyrmion characterized by a ${360}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ rotation of the internal magnetization in a Dzyaloshinskii DW. We further propose a method to identify DW skyrmions experimentally using Fresnel-mode Lorentz transmission electron microscopy; simulated images of DW skyrmions using this technique are presented based on the micromagnetic results.
