Abstract

Abstract By incompletely understood mechanisms, type 2 (T2) inflammation present in the airways of severe asthmatics drives the formation of pathologic mucus which leads to airway mucus plugging. Here we investigate the molecular role and clinical significance of intelectin-1 (ITLN-1) in the development of pathologic airway mucus in asthma. Through analyses of human airway epithelial cells we find that ITLN1 gene expression is highly induced by interleukin-13 (IL-13) in a subset of metaplastic MUC5AC+ mucus secretory cells, and that ITLN-1 protein is a secreted component of IL-13-induced mucus. Additionally, we find ITLN-1 protein binds the C-terminus of the MUC5AC mucin and that its deletion in airway epithelial cells partially reverses IL-13-induced mucostasis. Through analysis of nasal airway epithelial brushings, we find that ITLN1 is highly expressed in T2-high asthmatics, when compared to T2-low children. Furthermore, we demonstrate that both ITLN-1 gene expression and protein levels are significantly reduced by a common genetic variant that is associated with protection from the formation of mucus plugs in T2-high asthma. This work identifies an important biomarker and targetable pathways for the treatment of mucus obstruction in asthma.

Abstract

New optical photometric, spectrocopic and imaging polarimetry data are combined with publicly available data to study some of the physical properties of the two H-poor superluminous supernovae (SLSN) SN 2021bnw and SN 2021fpl. For each SLSN, the best-fit parameters obtained from the magnetar model with \texttt{MOSFiT} do not depart from the range of parameter obtained on other SLSNe discussed in the literature. A spectral analysis with \texttt{SYN++} shows that SN 2021bnw is a W Type, Fast evolver, while SN 2021fpl is a 15bn Type, Slow evolver. The analysis of the polarimetry data obtained on SN 2021fpl at four epochs (+1.8, +20.6, +34.1 and +43.0 days, rest-frame) shows $> 3\sigma$ polarization detections in the range 0.8--1 $\%$. A comparison of the spectroscopy data suggests that SN 2021fpl underwent a spectral transition a bit earlier than SN 2015bn, during which, similarly, it could have underwent a polarization transition. The analysis of the polarimetry data obtained on SN 2021bnw do not show any departure from symmetry of the photosphere at an empirical diffusion timescale of $\approx$ 2 (+81.1 days rest-frame). This result is consistent with those on the sample of W Type SLSN observed at empirical diffusion timescale $\le$ 1 with that technique, even though it is not clear the effect of limited spectral windows varying from one object to the other. Abstract

This study investigates the optimisation of grounding infrastructure in substations by implementing the philosophy of the multi-objective algorithm NSGA-II Elite. A complete description of the operating scheme and the characteristic mechanisms that support the behaviour and development of optimal Pareto solutions is provided. A detailed comparison was made with the optimisation method used in the GMAT program of Aplicaciones Tecnológicas, based on a semi-optimization process derived from the correlation of semi-precision optimisation solutions. The results show that multi-objective optimisation using NSGA-II results in a significant cost reduction compared to the semi-optimization method, although the computational time required to reach the final solution increases significantly. This approach allows a more adequate understanding of optimising the terrestrial substation grid. It highlights its ability to generate more cost-effective and performance-efficient solutions by carefully considering the computing time required.

Abstract

Optical imaging polarimetry was conducted on the hydrogen poor superluminous supernova 2020znr during 3 phases after maximum light (approximately +34 days, +288 days and +289 days). After instrumental and interstellar polarization correction, all measurements are consistent with null-polarization detection. Modelling the light curve with a magnetar spin-down model shows that SN 2020znr has similar magnetar and ejecta parameters to other SLSNe. A comparison of the best-fit values discussed in the literature on SN 2017egm and SN 2015bn, two hydrogen poor SLSNe showing an increase of polarization after maximum light, suggests that SN 2020znr has higher mass ejecta that may prevent access to the geometry of the inner ejecta with optical polarimetry. The combined information provided by spectroscopy and light curve analysis of type I SLSNe may be an interesting avenue to categorize the polarization properties of this class of transients. This approach would require to expand the sample of SLSNe polarimetry data currently available with early and late time epochs new measurements., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures and 6 tables. Abstract

We report the discovery of BOSS-EUVLG1 at z=2.469, by far the most luminous, almost un-obscured star-forming galaxy known at any redshift. First classified as a QSO within the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, follow-up observations with the Gran Telescopio Canarias reveal that its large luminosity, MUV = -24.40 and log(L_Lya/erg s-1) = 44.0, is due to an intense burst of star-formation, and not to an AGN or gravitational lensing. BOSS-EUVLG1 is a compact (reff = 1.2 kpc), young (4-5 Myr) starburst with a stellar mass log(M*/Msun) = 10.0 +/- 0.1 and a prodigious star formation rate of ~1000 Msun yr-1. However, it is metal- and dust-poor (12+log(O/H) = 8.13 +/- 0.19, E(B-V) = 0.07, log(LIR/LUV) < -1.2), indicating that we are witnessing the very early phase of an intense starburst that has had no time to enrich the ISM. BOSS-EUVLG1 might represent a short-lived (<100 Myrs), yet important phase of star-forming galaxies at high redshift that has been missed in previous surveys. Within a galaxy evolutionary scheme, BOSS-EUVLG1 could likely represent the very initial phases in the evolution of massive quiescent galaxies, even before the dusty star-forming phase., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. 14. Studying the dark universe with galaxies

Abstract

This work presents two different but connected projects that study the dark components of the universe. We show the first full shape analysis of the eBOSS Luminous Red Galaxy (LRG) sample, which has an effective redshift of zeff ~ 0.72 and used the data from the 14th data release of SDSS (DR14). Amongst other parameters, we constrain the growth rate of the universe to have the value f(zeff )s8(zeff ) = 0.454 ± 0.134, Our results are in full agreement with the current Λ-Cold Dark Matter cosmological model under the Planck cosmology. This study was followed up with a later data release that has found comparable results (DR16 Gil-Marín et al., 2020). The second project uses sparse regression methods (SRM) to model the stellar masses of galaxies inside the EAGLE hydrodynamical simulation as a function of the properties of their host dark matter halos, without using prior knowledge of the underlying physics. Our model is designed to be an accurate and simple equation of the host halo properties, which makes it modifiable if one is interested in fitting to a set of statistics. An advantage of SRMs is that they are designed to remove unnecessary terms, our method discarded all parameters related to the angular momentum of the host halo, suggesting that they are not required to explain the stellar mass halo mass relation to the accuracy considered. Using an appropriate formulation of input parameters, our methodology can model satellite and central galaxies at the same time using a simpler model than when they are treated separately. Our models accurately reproduce the stellar mass function and the correlation function of EAGLE galaxies, which makes them an encouraging approach for the construction of realistic mock galaxy catalogs to interpret results from galaxy surveys.

15. Discovery of a giant and luminous Lya+CIV+HeII nebula at z=3.326 with extreme emission line ratios

Abstract

We present the discovery of HLock01-LAB, a luminous and large Lya nebula at z=3.326. Medium-band imaging and long-slit spectroscopic observations with the Gran Telescopio Canarias reveal extended emission in the Lya 1215\AA, CIV1550\AA, and HeII 1640\AA lines over ~100kpc, and a total luminosity L(Lya)=(6.4+/-0.1)x10^44 erg s^-1. HLock01-LAB presents an elongated morphology aligned with two faint radio sources contained within the central ~8kpc of the nebula. The radio structures are consistent to be faint radio jets or lobes of a central galaxy, whose spectrum shows nebular emission characteristic of a type-II active galactic nucleus (AGN). The continuum emission of the AGN at short wavelengths is, however, likely dominated by stellar emission of the host galaxy, for which we derive a stellar mass M* = 2.3x10^11 Msun. The detection of extended emission in CIV and CIII] indicates that the gas within the nebula is not primordial. Feedback may have enriched the halo at at least 50 kpc from the nuclear region. Using rest-frame UV emission-line diagnostics, we find that the gas in the nebula is likely heated by the AGN. Nevertheless, at the center of the nebula we find extreme emission line ratios of Lya/CIV~60 and Lya/HeII~80, one of the highest values measured to date, and well above the standard values of photoionization models (Lya/HeII~30 for case B photoionization). Our data suggest that jet-induced shocks are likely responsible for the increase of the electron temperature and, thus, the observed Lya enhancement in the center of the nebula. This scenario is further supported by the presence of radio structures and perturbed kinematics in this region. The large Lya luminosity in HLock01-LAB is likely due to a combination of AGN photoionization and jet-induced shocks, highlighting the diversity of sources of energy powering Lya nebulae. Abstract

Abstract Variability in response to short-acting β2-agonists (e.g., albuterol) among patients with asthma from diverse racial/ethnic groups may contribute to asthma disparities. We sought to identify genetic variants associated with bronchodilator response (BDR) to identify potential mechanisms of drug response and risk factors for worse asthma outcomes. Genome-wide association studies of bronchodilator response (BDR) were performed using TOPMed Whole Genome Sequencing data of the Asthma Translational Genomic Collaboration (ATGC), which corresponded to 1136 Puerto Rican, 656 Mexican and 4337 African American patients with asthma. With the population-specific GWAS results, a trans-ethnic meta-analysis was performed to identify BDR-associated variants shared across the three populations. Replication analysis was carried out in three pediatric asthma cohorts, including CAMP (Childhood Asthma Management Program; n = 560), GACRS (Genetics of Asthma in Costa Rica Study; n = 967) and HPR (Hartford-Puerto Rico; n = 417). A genome-wide significant locus (rs35661809; P = 3.61 × 10–8) in LINC02220, a non-coding RNA gene, was identified in Puerto Ricans. While this region was devoid of protein-coding genes, capture Hi-C data showed a distal interaction with the promoter of the DNAH5 gene in lung tissue. Abstract

The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. Abstract

We describe the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV), a project encompassing three major spectroscopic programs. The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) is observing hundreds of thousands of Milky Way stars at high resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio in the near-infrared. The Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey is obtaining spatially-resolved spectroscopy for thousands of nearby galaxies (median redshift of z = 0.03). The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) is mapping the galaxy, quasar, and neutral gas distributions between redshifts z = 0.6 and 3.5 to constrain cosmology using baryon acoustic oscillations, redshift space distortions, and the shape of the power spectrum. Within eBOSS, we are conducting two major subprograms: the SPectroscopic IDentification of eROSITA Sources (SPIDERS), investigating X-ray AGN and galaxies in X-ray clusters, and the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS), obtaining spectra of variable sources. All programs use the 2.5-meter Sloan Foundation Telescope at Apache Point Observatory; observations there began in Summer 2014. APOGEE-2 also operates a second near-infrared spectrograph at the 2.5-meter du Pont Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, with observations beginning in early 2017. Observations at both facilities are scheduled to continue through 2020. 30. Microbial Loads Of Vermicompost Prepared From Various Medicinal Plants.

Abstract

Microbes present in the vermicompost plays a major role in exhibiting the beneficiary effect which results in significant plant growth and yield. In this study, we aim to analyze the microbial load present in the vermicompost which is prepared from different medicinal plants including Phyllanthus emblica, Senna auriculata, Justicia adhatoda, Annona squamosa at two different ratios of preparation with cow dung. To perform this, microbial load was evaluated before and after vermicompost formation. After completion, it was observed that fungal and actinomycetes loads were significantly higher in vermicompost samples prepared from Phyllanthus emblica plant samples. Concerning bacterial load, it was observed that vermicompost samples prepared from Senna auriculata showed the maximum load. These data provide us the information about the importance of the vermicompost with different medicinal plants in increasing the microbial load concentration which further enables plant growth and yield. It is also noted that the ratio of 1:2 gave better microbial load results than the 1:1 ratio sample. Abstract

This research delved into the critical roles played by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in supporting anti-poverty programs of Local Government Units (LGUs) in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City. It involved three NGOs that were selected based on their experience, collaboration agreements, and poverty-fighting program designs. Employing a qualitative approach, the experiences and perspectives of the participating NGOs were examined through semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was then utilized to extract key themes from the rich qualitative data. The NGOs' profiles, programs, and strategies were explored, revealing their crucial roles in tackling the complex issues of poverty. The findings revealed that these NGOs provide significant contributions to community development, and were strongly dedicated to enhancing marginalized communities' well-being through varied missions, funding sources, and innovative programs. Furthermore, collaboration between the NGOs and LGUs supported governmental efforts, shaped local policies, and improved service provision, underscoring the value of strategic partnerships for sustainable development. Abstract

The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since 2014 July. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the 14th from SDSS overall (making this Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes the data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (2014-2016 July) public. Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey; the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data-driven machine-learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from the SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS web site (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020 and will be followed by SDSS-V.

Abstract

The information gathered from one of the secondary public schools in Cluster 1, Division of Pampanga's senior high schools for the academic year 2023-2024, the study looked at how the students used their phones. The study investigates the relationship between students' screen addiction and factors such as stress levels, physical activity levels, and lack of self-control. Through this discovery, an intervention plan is being developed by the researchers to effectively encourage senior high school students to balance their mobile phone usage. Approximately, 643 senior high learners from both levels participated in the study on the value of mobile phone usage among mobile phone users (MPUs).A mixed-method sequential explanatory design was used. According to the study, students who use screens excessively are more likely to experience stress, obsessive behavior, and a loss of self-control, among other negative consequences. On the contrary, physical activity is associated with lower stress levels among individuals. This study reveals senior high school students experience anxiety, eating problems, and smartphone addiction, impacting their behavior and mental health. Furthermore, the study found a correlation between stress levels and exercise and screen addiction. This connection may be the result of the study emphasizing the detrimental effects of excessive mobile phone use on the physical and emotional well-being of seniors in high school. Additionally, this study recommends managing digital resources, encouraging everyday life contacts, and encouraging a balanced approach to cell phone usage. Thus, the study highlights the significance of f inding a balance between personal health and technology used to enhance student's educational experiences and quality of life. To enhance their academic performance and mental health, students should be taught about the dangers of excessive mobile phone usage, encouraged to practice personal wellness, and given preventative steps to follow. Abstract

The aim of this study was to adapt the Short Dark Tetrad (SD4) to a sample of 617 Peruvian adults. The translated version presented validity evidence based on test content and cultural suitability for the target population. We analyzed reliability and different sources of validity evidence on the SD4 and on a shorter version called Super-Short Dark Tetrad (SSD4). Reliability estimates were adequate for the SD4 measures ω = .72-.89, whereas the SSD4 had lower estimates ω = .66-.79. Factorial structure analyses denoted a questionable fit for the original 4-factor model and an adequate fit for a bifactor model on both SD4 and SSD4. Evidence in favor of strict measurement invariance was found regarding age (nage < 25 = 362, nage ≥ 25 = 255) for both versions while evidence for scalar invariance regarding gender (nmen = 264, nwomen = 353) was found only for the SSD4. Relationship analyses resulted in high consistency between the SD4 and SSD4 scores with the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen, except for the narcissism subscale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
