A sequence of electron clouds is extracted from an electron plasma reservoir. These clouds are highly reproducible and their E x B drift motion is nearly identical to that of a single particle, making them useful for measurements of electric and magnetic fields. First, by weakening the trapping potential confining the clouds we observe that they move off-axis, and we use this to measure the electric field due to patch potentials. Next, we measure the total charge of these clouds using small shifts in their magnetron frequencies. The misalignment between the trap electrodes and the external magnet is measured by imaging the clouds from different axial locations in the trap. By combining electron cyclotron resonance with the patch potential measurement procedure, we can measure the magnetic field strength up to a millimeter away from the trap axis. Finally, a new magnetometry technique called electron magnetron phase imaging (EMPI) is used to measure the rapidly changing magnetic field involved in observing the effect of gravity on antihydrogen. In EMPI, the magnetron frequency is measured precisely, and then we observe small changes to the magnetron frequency as the magnetic field decreases. In the process of analyzing the experimental data from each of these measurements, subtleties in the motion of electron clouds are revealed. Some of these measurement techniques help us to understand systematic errors in the ALPHA collaboration's test of the weak equivalence principle. Other techniques are used to inform experimental procedures and help explain the behavior of ALPHA's Penning-Malmberg traps. Most of these ideas could be applied to many Penning-Malmberg traps, provided that they have the ability to image charged particles. Unknown magnetic fields, patch potentials, and misalignment pose difficulties for many experiments, so implementing these cloud-based measurements could benefit other research groups.

The large-scale magnetic structure of interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) has been shown to cause temporary decreases in the galactic cosmic ray (GCR) flux measured in situ by spacecraft, known as Forbush decreases (Fds). In some ICMEs, the magnetic ejecta exhibits a magnetic flux rope structure; the strong magnetic field strength and closed field line geometry of such ICME magnetic flux ropes has been proposed to act as a shield to GCR transport. However, as ICMEs propagate, they undergo many processes including interactions and magnetic reconnection with the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) in large-scale solar wind structures and other solar transients. In this study, we investigate how ICME interaction and reconnection during propagation affects Fd size, shape, and duration. We hypothesize that the alteration of the ICME magnetic topology due to reconnection (specifically the opening of the closed magnetic field configuration in the ICME flux rope) will have a strong effect on the ICME’s ability to modulate GCRs. To test this hypothesis, we compare the Fds of ICMEs that likely underwent reconnection during propagation with ones that likely did not.To this end, we identify ICMEs that exhibited open magnetic field line topologies (i.e., ones that likely underwent reconnection) and we compare their effects on GCRs with those of ICMEs that exhibited closed topologies (both ends connected to the Sun). We use magnetic field, solar wind plasma, and suprathermal electron pitch angle distribution data at ACE and Wind to select the ICMEs. Furthermore, we use data by the SOPO and McMurdo neutron monitors at Earth to investigate how the magnetic structure of the ICME ejecta modulates the GCRs by comparing the resulting Fds for the selected ICMEs. The results of our study yield new insights into how the modulation of GCRs is affected by ICME evolution and interaction during propagation and whether reconnection of the ICME flux rope weakens its modulation of GCRs.

A number of studies have suggested that dielectric breakdown weathering (“sparking”) may occur on airless bodies in the Solar System. To experience dielectric breakdown, a regolith must be exposed to a sufficiently high fluence of energetic charged particles (>1010 cm-2), and this fluence must be deposited on a timescale less than the regolith’s discharging timescale, which increases with decreasing temperature. Consequently, dielectric breakdown occurs in regolith that is both cold and exposed to high fluxes of solar energetic particles (SEPs) or radiation belt particles. If breakdown occurs, then it causes space weathering by melting and vaporizing microscopic channels through regolith near the surface. We describe our recent experimental, observational, and theoretical work investigating where dielectric breakdown may be an important space weathering process. In the inner Solar System, airless bodies are exposed sporadically to SEP events with high fluences. Policy makers are under political pressure to adopt policies that achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Reaching net zero is a demanding challenge requiring durable policies that last; that is, withstand short-term turbulence. However, there is a lack of clarity in the existing literature on both the conceptual meaning of policy durability and its empirical manifestations. This paper distinguishes between three central dimensions of policy durability and uses them to shed new light on the long-term evolution of EU climate policy. It reveals that the EU has addressed the relationship between policy durability and policy flexibility by working iteratively across and between different policy elements (instruments, programmes, goals, etc.). In revealing these patterns, it addresses a greatly neglected feature of policy design processes: the dialectical relationship between durability and flexibility.

The need for sustainability transitions is widely recognised, along with a concurrent need for the evolution of knowledge systems to inform more effective policy action. Although there are many new policy targets relating to net zero emissions and other sustainability challenges, cities, regional and national governments are struggling to rapidly develop transformational policies to achieve them. As academics and practitioners who work at the science-policy interface, we identify specific knowledge and competency needs for governing sustainability transitions related to the interlinked phases of envisioning, implementing and evaluating. In short, coordinated reforms of both policy and knowledge systems are urgently needed to address the speed and scale of sustainability challenges. These include embedding systems thinking literacy, mainstreaming participatory policy making, expanding the capacity to undertake transdisciplinary research, more adaptive governance and continuous organisational learning. These processes must guide further knowledge development, uptake and use as part of an iterative and holistic process. Such deep-seated change in policy-knowledge systems will be disruptive and presents challenges for traditional organisational models of knowledge delivery, but is essential for successful sustainability transformations.

We have combined ultrasensitive force-based spin detection with high-fidelity spin control to achieve NMR diffraction (NMRd) measurement of ~2 million 31 P spins in a ( 50 n m ) 3 volume of an indium-phosphide (InP) nanowire. NMRd is a technique originally proposed for studying the structure of periodic arrangements of spins, with complete access to the spectroscopic capabilities of NMR. We describe two experiments that realize NMRd detection with subangstrom precision. National policy ambition plays a central role in climate change governance under the Paris Agreement and is now a focus of rapidly emerging literature. In this contribution, we argue that policy ambition can be captured by the level of national policy activity, which in accordance with the existing literature should be referred to as “policy density.” In this study, we measure climate policy density by drawing on three publicly available databases. All three measurements show an upward trend in the adoption of climate policy. However, our empirical comparison also reveals differences between the measurements with regard to the degree of policy expansion and sectoral coverage, which are due to differences in the type of policies in the databases. For the first time, we compare the patterns of policy density within each database (2000–2019) and reveal that while they are different, they are nonetheless potentially complementary. Since the choice of the database and the resulting measurement of policy density ultimately depend on the questions posed by researchers, we conclude by discussing whether some questions are better answered by some measurements than others.

Despite the recent proliferation of national climate change advisory bodies, very little is known about what advice they provide, to whom, and when. To address these gaps in the literature, this article systematically analyses all 700 of the recommendations made by the UK Climate Change Committee (CCC) in the period 2009–20. The CCC is one of the oldest climate change advisory bodies of its kind in the world and its design has been widely emulated by other countries. For the first time, this article documents how the CCC’s mitigation and adaptation recommendations have changed over time with respect to their addressee, sectoral focus and policy targets. It reveals that they became: more numerous per year; more cross-sectoral in their nature; clearer in targeting a specific addressee; and more focused in referring to specific policy targets. By drawing on Fischer’s synthesis of policy evaluation to derive a measure of policy ambition, it also reveals that despite many of its recommendations being repeated year after year, the CCC has become more willing to challenge the policy status quo. It concludes by identifying future research needs in this important and fast-moving area of climate governance, notably understanding the conditions in which the recommendations of advisory bodies (do not) impact national policy.

Thoughtful preoperative planning allows for creation of multiple sources of high-quality myoelectric signal in a single operation, which does not require microsurgery, providing for wide applicability to hand surgeons of all backgrounds.

To achieve its ambitious climate targets, the European Union (EU) must adopt new policies, increase the impact of existing policies and/or remove dysfunctional ones. The EU has developed an elaborate system to monitor national policy mixes in order to support these challenging requirements. Data that member states have reported to the EU over the last ten years reveal that the average expected per-policy-instrument emission reduction has declined, while national policy mixes have remained generally stable over time. This is strikingly discordant with the EU’s ambitious commitment to become carbon neutral by 2050 (‘net zero’).

Patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs) reviewed training materials and completed pre-injection surveys; patients then self-administered ≥ 1 injection with the CZP PFP during each of three visits. Patients and HCPs then completed post-injection surveys. Some survey questions were adapted from the self-injection assessment questionnaire (SIAQv2.0).Results: Seventy patients participated (65 completed 3 visits); 33 were biologic-experienced. All patients agreed that training materials were informative; 94% found them easy to understand. Pre-injection, 89% of patients reported little or no anxiety about having injections; 67% (79% in biologic-experienced) were very confident about self-injecting the correct dose with the PFP. Ninety percent of patients were satisfied/very satisfied with their first experience with the CZP PFP; those with pre-injection anxiety reported lower satisfaction (43% vs 79% “very satisfied”). Confidence and satisfaction increased as visits progressed (for Visit 3 vs Visit 2: 69% vs 56% “very convenient”; 75% vs 67% “very confident”; 71% vs 57% “very satisfied”). All HCPs were confident in their patients’ competence to self-inject and thought all patients had overall positive experiences.Conclusion: Australian patients with chronic rheumatic disease reported high levels of confidence and satisfaction following initial use of the CZP PFP. The availability of devices with patient-centered design innovations may help overcome barriers to self-injection for improved adherence/outcomes.Keywords: biologic, certolizumab pegol, patient preference, patient satisfaction, self-injection

Background: The ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) obtained during ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) has been cited as an independent predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) including cardiovascular death, stroke and worsening chronic kidney disease (CKD) among mixed-sex adult populations. This study aimed to determine the relationship between AASI and MACE and its predictive precision in women. Methods: This work follows the guidelines of the STROBE initiative for cohort studies. This was a retrospective single-center observational study of adult women (aged 18 – 75 years), who underwent 24-h ABPM for the diagnosis of hypertension or its control. The primary endpoint was a composite MACE of cardiovascular death, acute limb ischemia, stroke, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), or progression to stage V CKD. Results: A total of 219 women aged 57.4 ± 13.3 years were followed up for a median (interquartile range (IQR)) of 25.5 (18.3 – 31.3) months. Overall, 16 (7.3%) patients suffered one or more MACE events. AASI was significantly higher in patients with known coronary artery disease (CAD), diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular disease (PVD), heart failure, previous stroke, or transient ischemic attack (TIA). AASI was a significant predictor of MACE (area under the curve: 0.78; P < 0.001) with an optimal cut-off of ≥ 0.56. On Kaplan-Meier analysis AASI ≥ 0.56 was significantly associated with MACE (log-rank test, P < 0.001). The only independent predictors of MACE on Cox proportional hazard analysis were diabetes mellitus, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels, cumulative AASI values, or AASI ≥ 0.56. Conclusions: An AASI of ≥ 0.56 is an independent predictor of MACE in women. A further validation study in a larger cohort of women is recommended.

The Steglich esterification is a widely employed method for the formation of esters under mild conditions. A number of issues regarding the sustainability of this transformation have been identified, chiefly the use of hazardous carbodiimide coupling reagents in conjunction with solvents with considerable issues such as dichloromethane (DCM) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). To overcome these issues, we have developed a solvent-reagent selection guide for the formation of esters via Steglich-type reactions with the aim of providing safer, more sustainable conditions. Optimum reaction conditions have been identified after high-throughput screening of solvent-reagent combinations, namely the use of Mukaiyama's reagent (Muk) in conjunction with solvent dimethyl carbonate (DMC). The new reaction conditions were also exemplified through the synthesis of a small selection of building-block like molecules and includes the formation of t-butyl esters.

Background: As the most common setting where youth access behavioral healthcare, the education sector frequently employs training and follow-up consultation as cornerstone implementation strategies to promote the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). However, these strategies alone are not sufficient to promote desired implementation (e.g., intervention fidelity) and youth behavioral outcomes (e.g., mitigated externalizing behaviors). Theory-informed pragmatic pre-implementation enhancement strategies (PIES) are needed to prevent lackluster outcomes of training and consultation. Specifically, social-cognitive theory explicates principles that inform the design of PIES content and specify mechanisms of behavior change (e.g., "intentions to implement"; ITI) to target to increase providers' responsiveness to training and consultation. Methods: This triple-blind parallel randomized controlled trial preliminarily examined the efficacy of a pragmatic PIES based on social-cognitive theories (SC-PIES) to improve implementation and youth behavioral outcomes from universal preventive EBPs in the education sector. Teachers from a diverse urban district were recruited and randomly assigned to the treatment (SC-PIES; n treatment = 22) or active control condition (administrative meeting; n control = 21). Based on the condition assigned, teachers received the SC-PIES (or met with administrators) before EBP training. We assessed teachers' ITI, intervention fidelity, and youth behavioral outcome (academic engagement as an incompatible behavior to externalizing disorders) at baseline, immediately after training, and six weeks afterward. Results: A series of ANCOVAs detected sizeable effects of SC-PIES, where teachers who received SC-PIES demonstrated significantly larger improvement in their ITI, intervention fidelity, and youth behaviors as compared to the control. Conditional analyses indicated that teachers’ ITI partially mediated the effect of SC-PIES on intervention fidelity, which in turn led to improved youth behaviors. Conclusions: Findings suggest that theory-informed pragmatic PIES targeting providers' ITI can boost their responsiveness to implementation strategies, as reflected in improved implementation behaviors and youth behavioral outcomes. The results have implications for targeting motivational mechanisms of behavior change and situating preventive implementation strategies at the intersection between preparation and active implementation stages of an implementation process. Limitations and implications for research and practice are discussed and extended to general youth behavioral health settings. Trial registration: Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT05240222. Adopting public policies to deliver the ambitious long-term goals of the Paris Agreement will require significant societal commitment. That commitment will eventually emerge from the interaction between policies, publics and politicians. This article has two main aims. First, it reviews the existing literatures on these three to identify salient research gaps. It finds that existing work has focused on one aspect rather than the dynamic interactions between them all. Second, it sets out a more integrated research agenda that explores the three-way interaction between publics, policies and politicians. It reveals that greater integration is required to understand better the conditions under which different political systems address societal commitment dilemmas. In the absence of greater research integration, there is a risk that policymakers cling to two prominent but partial policy prescriptions: that ‘democracy’ itself is the problem and should be suspended; and that more deliberative forms of democracy are required without explaining how they will co-exist with existing forms.

Despite its very strong economic roots, the European Union has nonetheless become an international leader in environmental protection and sustainable development policy. Environmental concerns have consequently shifted from being a marginal aspect of the European integration process to one that routinely grabs news headlines and, unlike many other EU policy areas, generates relatively strong political support from EU citizens. In the past, these policies, which now impinge on most sectors and areas of the economy, have proven resilient to economic and deregulatory pressures. This chapter documents and explores the reasons behind the relatively rapid transformation in the EU’s governing capabilities in this policy area, explores the main dynamics of policy-making from different analytical perspectives, and explores the impact of challenges such as climate change, Brexit, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

This paper documents the evolving impact of childbearing on the work activity of mothers between 1787 and 2014. It is based on a compiled data set of 429 censuses and surveys, representing 101 countries and 46.9 million mothers, using the International and U.S. IPUMS, the North Atlantic Population Project, and the Demographic and Health Surveys. Using twin births (Rosenzweig and Wolpin 1980) and same gendered children (Angrist and Evans 1998) as instrumental variables, we show three main findings: (1) the effect of fertility on labor supply is small and often indistinguishable from zero at low levels of income and large and negative at higher levels of income; (2) these effects are remarkably consistent both across time looking at the historical time series of currently developed countries and at a contemporary cross section of developing countries; and (3) the results are robust to other instrument variation, different demographic and educational groups, rescaling to account for changes in the base level of labor force participation, and a variety of specification and data decisions. We show that the negative gradient in female labor supply is consistent with a standard labor-leisure model augmented to include a taste for children. In particular, our results appear to be driven by a declining substitution effect to increasing wages that arises from changes in the sectoral and occupational structure of female jobs into formal nonagricultural wage employment as countries develop.

Background Limb-threatening lower extremity traumatic injuries can be devastating events with a multifaceted impact on patients. Therefore, evaluating patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in addition to traditional surgical outcomes is important. However, currently available instruments are limited as they were not developed specific to lower extremity trauma patients and lack content validity. The LIMB-Q is being developed as a novel PRO instrument to meet this need, with the goal to measure all relevant concepts and issues impacting amputation and limb-salvage patients after limb-threatening lower extremity trauma. Methods This is a qualitative interview-based study evaluating content validity for the LIMB-Q. Patients aged 18 years and older who underwent amputation, reconstruction, or amputation after failed reconstruction were recruited using purposeful sampling to maximize variability of participant experiences. Expert opinion was solicited from a variety of clinical providers and qualitative researchers internationally. Preliminary items and scales were modified, added, or removed based on participant and expert feedback after each round of participant interviews and expert opinion. Results Twelve patients and 43 experts provided feedback in a total of three rounds, with changes to the preliminary instrument made between each round. One scale was dropped after round one, one scale was added after round two, and only minor changes were needed after round three. Modifications, additions and removal of items, instructions, and response options were made after each round using feedback gathered. Conclusion The LIMB-Q was refined and modified to reflect feedback from patients and experts in the field. Content validity for the LIMB-Q was established. Following a large-scale field test, the LIMB-Q will be ready for use in research and clinical care.

The literature on policy dynamics has long argued for a better conceptualization and measurement of the dependent variable (“policy”), but this fundamental point has often been neglected in the policy feedback literature. In this paper, we explore how far disaggregating policy into different elements (policy instruments, objectives, and settings) addresses this gap. We do so by examining the world’s largest market-based climate policy instrument—emissions trading in the European Union—and reveal a number of valuable new insights. First, even if positive policy feedback locks in a policy instrument, actor contestation does not disappear, but narrows down to the more detailed level of policy settings. Second, feedback may operate differently at each policy level: the policy instrument and its settings may strengthen at the same time as support for broader objectives weakens. Finally, positive feedback may simultaneously strengthen opposing actors’ support for multiple policy elements, leading to a form of “policy stability by stalemate.” These findings highlight the need for a new, interdisciplinary phase of policy feedback research that more fully disaggregates the dependent variable across a wider range of policy areas and policy instrument types. Policy scientists are well equipped to contribute to and benefit from such a debate.

Ionic liquids (ILs) are perceived as a promising group of chemicals within the realm of green chemistry. They are increasingly of interest for open environmental applications. Rules for the design of biodegradable and preferably completely mineralizing ILs after their introduction into the environment are highly desirable. In this study, the impact of the length of the alkyl chain and of the cationic head group on the environmental biodegradability ofl-phenylalanine ester (PheC(n)) derived ILs using the pyridinium (PyPheC(n)), imidazolium (ImPheC(n)) and cholinium (CholPheC(n)) head groups was systematically studied. This included high-resolution mass spectrometry monitoring of formed products of incomplete mineralization. Completely biodegradable ILs were only identified in the PyPheC(n)series. PyPheC(2)and PyPheC(4)were fully mineralizable within 42 days with no detectable transformation products (TPs), whereas mineralization of longer chain length PyPheC(n)ILs required more time. Our results show biodegradation by microorganisms was affected by an alkyl chain length of at least 10 carbon atoms. Biodegradation of the ILs started with biotic ester hydrolysis independent of the alkyl chain length or core scaffold. In contrast, the second step of microbial degradation was an amide bond cleavage which was only shown for ILs with a pyridinium or imidazolium core, even after a test prolongation up to 42 days. Hence, the nature of the cationic head group and the chain length impacted on the mineralization and biodegradability of the ILs. For ILs with an imidazolium core, amide bond cleavage resulted in the formation of recalcitrant 1-carboxymethylimidazolium (ImAc). Whereas for most ILs with a pyridinium core, amide bond cleavage resulted in 1-carboxymethylpyridinium (PyAc) which was mineralizable, although not readily biodegradable according to the test guideline 301D. In the case of cholinium ILs, no further degradation of cholinium phenylalanine amide TP was observed after the hydrolysis of the ester to the alkyl alcohol. The biodegradability of ILs decreased in the order PyPheC(n)> ImPheC(n)> CholPheC(n), but a key finding is that ImPhe is degraded to ImAc but not further (cf.favourable PyAc mineralisation). These results can be used to design ILs with the property to be effectively biodegraded and mineralized in the environment.

Dipolar aprotic and ethereal solvents comprise just over 40% of all organic solvents utilized in synthetic organic, medicinal, and process chemistry. Unfortunately, many of the common "go-to" solvents are considered to be "less-preferable" for a number of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) reasons such as toxicity, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, or for practical handling reasons such as flammability and volatility. Recent legislative changes have initiated the implementation of restrictions on the use of many of the commonly employed dipolar aprotic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF) and -methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), and for ethers such as 1,4-dioxane. Thus, with growing legislative, EHS, and societal pressures, the need to identify and implement the use of alternative solvents that are greener, safer, and more sustainable has never been greater. Within this review, the ubiquitous nature of dipolar aprotic and ethereal solvents is discussed with respect to the physicochemical properties that have made them so appealing to synthetic chemists. An overview of the current legislative restrictions being imposed on the use of dipolar aprotic and ethereal solvents is discussed. A variety of alternative, safer, and more sustainable solvents that have garnered attention over the past decade are then examined, and case studies and examples where less-preferable solvents have been successfully replaced with a safer and more sustainable alternative are highlighted. Finally, a general overview and guidance for solvent selection and replacement are included in the Supporting Information of this review.

We develop a variational principle to determine the quantum controls and initial state which optimizes the quantum Fisher information, the quantity characterizing the precision in quantum metrology. When the set of available controls is limited, the exact optimal initial state and the optimal controls are in general dependent on the probe time, a feature missing in the unrestricted case. Yet, for time-independent Hamiltonians with restricted controls, the problem can be approximately reduced to the unconstrained case via the Floquet engineering. In particular, we find for magnetometry with a time-independent spin chain containing three-body interactions, even when the controls are restricted to one and two-body interaction, that the Heisenberg scaling can still be approximately achieved. Deep, broad, and rapid society-wide changes are urgently required to limit global temperature rise in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Since 2005, academics and policy makers have increasingly referred to such changes as transformations. This recent uptake and rapid diffusion of transformation-related concepts in research on climate change mitigation calls for a systematic and up-to-date analysis. In this article, we address this gap by undertaking a systematic review of articles that use transformation-related terms in the social science literature on climate change mitigation. Drawing on a corpus of 198 articles identified from Scopus, we find a diverse, fragmented research field that strongly focuses on the national, city, and international levels, the energy sector, and high-income countries. Although the use of transformation terminology has increased rapidly, there are few shared definitions, which arguably constitutes a serious challenge to scholarship and evidence-based policy making. To facilitate a more cumulative and impactful approach to research, we propose transformational climate change mitigation as a new umbrella term for the varied mitigation-related societal transformations required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. We conclude by identifying priorities for future research.

The EU has long pursued relatively ambitious climate and energy policies, often against the backdrop of what has been termed the EU ‘polycrisis’. This paper introduces a special issue which seeks to develop a better understanding of why, how and with which consequences the polycrisis and EU climate and energy governance have influenced each other. It draws on a novel framework of five broad crisis trends underlying the polycrisis. Most of the contributions suggest that EU climate and energy governance have advanced significantly despite, and sometimes even because of, the crisis trends. The countervailing effects of the trends and the effectiveness of actors’ strategies to advance EU policy against opponents go a long way to explaining this puzzling finding. As the EU seeks to fully decarbonise itself by 2050, interactions with the crisis trends are likely to intensify in ways which future research could fruitfully investigate.

In recent years, self-assembled semiconductor nanowires have been successfully used as ultra-sensitive cantilevers in a number of unique scanning probe microscopy (SPM) settings. We describe the fabrication of ultra-low dissipation patterned silicon nanowire (SiNW) arrays optimized for scanning probe applications. Our fabrication process produces, with high yield, ultra-high aspect ratio vertical SiNWs that exhibit exceptional force sensitivity. The highest sensitivity SiNWs have thermomechanical-noise limited force sensitivity of $9.7\pm0.4~\text{aN}/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ at room temperature and $500\pm20~\text{zN}/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ at 4 K. To facilitate their use in SPM, the SiNWs are patterned within $7~\mu\text{m}$ from the edge of the substrate, allowing convenient optical access for displacement detection., Comment: Main text: 16 pages, 3 figures and 2 tables.
