HERMES-TP/SP (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites Technologic and Scientific Pathfinder) is a constellation of six 3U nano-satellites hosting simple but innovative X-ray detectors, characterized by a large energy band and excellent temporal resolution, and thus optimized for the monitoring of Cosmic High Energy transients such as Gamma Ray Bursts and the electromagnetic counterparts of Gravitational Wave Events, and for the determination of their positions. The projects are funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and by the Italian Space Agency, and by the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under Grant Agreement No. 821896. HERMES-TP/SP is an in-orbit demonstration, that should be tested starting from 2022. The HERMES-TP/SP (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites -- Technologic and Scientific Pathfinder) is an in-orbit demonstration of the so-called distributed astronomy concept. Conceived as a mini-constellation of six 3U nano-satellites hosting a new miniaturized detector, HERMES-TP/SP aims at the detection and accurate localisation of bright high-energy transients such as Gamma-Ray Bursts. The large energy band, the excellent temporal resolution and the wide field of view that characterize the detectors of the constellation represent the key features for the next generation high-energy all-sky monitor with good localisation capabilities that will play a pivotal role in the future of Multi-messenger Astronomy. In this work, we will describe in detail the temporal techniques that allow the localisation of bright transient events taking advantage of their almost simultaneous observation by spatially spaced detectors. HERMES (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites) Technological and Scientific pathfinder is a space borne mission based on a LEO constellation of nano-satellites. The 3U CubeSat buses host new miniaturized detectors to probe the temporal emission of bright high-energy transients such as Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). Fast transient localization, in a field of view of several steradians and with arcmin-level accuracy, is gained by comparing time delays among the same event detection epochs occurred on at least 3 nano-satellites. With a launch date in 2022, HERMES transient monitoring represents a keystone capability to complement the next generation of gravitational wave experiments. In this paper we will illustrate the HERMES payload design, highlighting the technical solutions adopted to allow a wide-energy-band and sensitive X-ray and gamma-ray detector to be accommodated in a CubeSat 1U volume together with its complete control electronics and data handling system., Comment: 12 pages, 13 figures. Objective. The latest European guidelines for the management of hemorrhagic shock suggest the use of vasopressors (norepinephrine) in order to restore an adequate mean arterial pressure when fluid resuscitation therapy fails to restore blood pressure. The administration of arginine vasopressin (AVP), or its analogue terlipressin, has been proposed as an alternative treatment in the early stages of hypovolemic shock. Design. A meta-analysis of randomized controlled animal trials. Participants. A total of 433 animals from 15 studies were included. Interventions. The ability of AVP and terlipressin to reduce mortality when compared with fluid resuscitation therapy, other vasopressors (norepinephrine or epinephrine), or placebo was investigated. Measurements and Main Results. Pooled estimates showed that AVP and terlipressin consistently and significantly improve survival in hemorrhagic shock (mortality: 26/174 (15%) in the AVP group versus 164/259 (63%) in the control arms; OR=0.09; 95% CI 0.05 to 0.15; P for effect < 0.001; P for heterogeneity = 0.30; I2=14%). Conclusions. Results suggest that AVP and terlipressin improve survival in the early phases of animal models of hemorrhagic shock. Vasopressin seems to be more effective than all other treatments, including other vasopressor drugs. These results need to be confirmed by human clinical trials.

An extensive survey of wild Sicilian oregano was made. A total of 57 samples were collected from various sites, followed by taxonomic characterization from an agronomic perspective. Based on morphological and production characteristics obtained from the 57 samples, cluster analysis was used to divide the samples into homogeneous groups, to identify the best biotypes. All samples were analyzed for their phytochemical content, applying a cascade-extraction protocol and hydrodistillation, to obtain the non volatile components and the essential oils, respectively. The extracts contained thirteen polyphenol derivatives, i.e., four flavanones, seven flavones, and two organic acids. Their qualitative and quantitative characterization was carried out by LC/MS analyses. The essential oils were characterized using a combination of GC-FID and GC/MS analyses; a total of 81 components were identified. The major components of the oils were thymol, p-cymene, and γ-terpinene. Cluster analysis was carried out on both phytochemical profiles and resulted in the division of the oregano samples into different chemical groups. The antioxidant activity of the essential oils and extracts was investigated by the Folin-Ciocalteau (FC) colorimetric assay, by UV radiation-induced peroxidation in liposomal membranes (UV-IP test), and by determining the O(2)(∙-)-scavenging activity.

This thesis attempts to further the research by Odland and Ellis (1992) in applying event history models to the analysis of spatial point patterns (i.e., event patterns). Its empirical focus is the event pattern derived from the adoption of an agricultural innovation, the Harvestore, in southern Ontario, Canada from 1963 to 1986. Event history analysis involves the use ofdiscrete-state, continuous-time stochastic models to investigate a temporal longitudinal record on discrete variables (event history data). Event history models are primarily concerned with durations of time between events and the effects of intertemporal time dependencies on future event occurrences. Many of the methods used in event history analysis do not preclude the use of other non-negative interval measurements in place of standard temporal intervals to investigate a series of events. In particular, spatial intervals (durations) of distances between points (events) may also be accommodated by event history models. This thesis is methodological in nature, and extends the previous research of Odland and Ellis (1992) by using a wider range of parametric models to explore duration dependence, investigating the role of spatial censoring, and using a more extensive set of explanatory variables. In addition, simulation experiments and graphical tests are used to evaluate the empirical event pattern against one generated from Complete Spatial Randomness. Results indicate that the event pattern formed by the Harvestore adopter farms is clustered (i.e., is described by positive duration dependency). Also, the sales agent is found to be a significant factor in the distribution of Harvestore adopters. In addition, contrasting results obtained from the analysis using censored data versus uncensored data (traditional nearest neighbours) underscores the importance of considering edge effects when using nearest neighbour durations. It appears that an event history approach is a valuable methodology that provides insight into spatial point patterns and processes. Master of Science (MSc)

In this proceedings we describe the current development status and recent technical achievements of Qibo, an open-source framework for quantum simulation. After a concise overview of the project goal, we introduce the modular layout for backend abstraction released in version 0.1.7. We discuss the advantages of each backend choice with particular emphasis on hardware accelerators for quantum state vector simulation. In un periodo di crisi generalizzata che colpisce tutti i settori della vita pubblica di un Paese, è bene ricordare come l'istruzione, la formazione e, più in generale, il capitale umano, contribuiscano in modo decisivo allo sviluppo socio-economico di qualsivoglia nazione. I sistemi sanitari di tutto il mondo stanno lottando per tenere il passo con i cambiamenti introdotti dai mutati scenari di salute, dalla crescente innovazione tecnologica, dalla globalizzazione in tutte le sue declinazioni e, man mano che diventano più complessi e costosi, finiscono con l'esprimere bisogni crescenti, che si riverberano sugli operatori sanitari. A livello globale è stato stimato un fabbisogno aggiuntivo di operatori sanitari pari a 7,2 milioni di unità, dato che si aggira intorno ad 1 milione di unità per l'insieme dei Paesi Membri dell'Unione Europea, avendo quale riferimento temporale il 2020. Questi dati trovano spiegazione nell'incremento della popolazione mondiale, anche in funzione del mutamento delle condizioni socio-economiche e di vita registratesi nei Paesi ad 36 economia emergente , e nel conseguente aumento del carico di malattia, in parte spiegato dall'invecchiamento della 37 popolazione , nonché dal primato della prevalenza delle malattie croniche e cronico-degenerative sulle malattie acute, tutti fenomeni già documentati nei Paesi ad economia evoluta. Oltre ai citati fenomeni della transizione demografica e della transizione epidemiologica, nei Paesi sviluppati devono essere tenute in debito conto ulteriori variabili di significativo impattd per il sistema salute, quali, su tutte, la globalizzazione dei saperi, ·l'innovazione tecnologica in sanità, il task shifting, ovvero la ridefinizione e condivisione delle competenze tra i medici e le differenti professioni sanitarie. È su queste basi che il tema della forza lavoro in sanità ha assunto sempre maggiore rilevanza a livello globale ed Europeo, laddove, in particolare, numerose comunità, su tutte le più disagiate, hanno documentato scarsa capacità di tradurre i loro bisogni educativi e di salute in una domanda efficace per essere gestita dai rispettivi servizi, mancando l'obiettivo di integrare formazione e mercato del lavoro in ragione dell'esigenza di strutturare un'assistenza sanitaria complessa.
