Once called a "classically non-describable two-valuedness" by Pauli , the electron spin is a natural resource for long-lived quantum information since it is mostly impervious to electric fluctuations and can be replicated in large arrays using silicon quantum dots, which offer high-fidelity control. Paradoxically, one of the most convenient control strategies is the integration of nanoscale magnets to artificially enhance the coupling between spins and electric field, which in turn hampers the spin's noise immunity and adds architectural complexity. Here we demonstrate a technique that enables a \emph{switchable} interaction between spins and orbital motion of electrons in silicon quantum dots, without the presence of a micromagnet. The naturally weak effects of the relativistic spin-orbit interaction in silicon are enhanced by more than three orders of magnitude by controlling the energy quantisation of electrons in the nanostructure, enhancing the orbital motion. Fast electrical control is demonstrated in multiple devices and electronic configurations, highlighting the utility of the technique. Using the electrical drive we achieve coherence time $T_{2,{\rm Hahn}}\approx50 \mu$s, fast single-qubit gates with ${T_{\pi/2}=3}$ ns and gate fidelities of 99.93 % probed by randomised benchmarking. The higher gate speeds and better compatibility with CMOS manufacturing enabled by on-demand electric control improve the prospects for realising scalable silicon quantum processors.

Background Several evidence show that elevated plasma levels of uric acid (UA) are associated with the increased risk of developing atherothrombotic cardiovascular events. Hyperuricemia is a risk factor for endothelial dysfunction (ED). ED is involved in the pathophysiology of atherothrombosis since dysfunctional cells lose their physiological, antithrombotic properties. We have investigated whether UA might promote ED by modulating the tissue factor (TF)/TF pathway inhibitor (TFPI) balance by finally changing the antithrombotic characteristics of endothelial cells. Methods Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were incubated with increasing doses of UA (up to 9 mg/dL). TF gene and protein expressions were evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blot. Surface expression and procoagulant activity were assessed by FACS (fluorescence activated cell sorting) analysis and coagulation assay. The mRNA and protein levels of TFPI were measured by real-time PCR and Western blot. The roles of inflammasome and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) as possible mechanism(s) of action of the UA on TF/TFPI balance were also investigated. Results UA significantly increased TF gene and protein levels, surface expression, and procoagulant activity. In parallel, TFPI levels were significantly reduced. The NF-κB pathways appeared to be involved in modulating these phenomena. Additionally, inflammasome might also play a role. Conclusion The present in vitro study shows that one of the mechanisms by which high levels of UA contribute to ED might be the imbalance between TF/TFPI levels in endothelial cells, shifting them to a nonphysiological, prothrombotic phenotype. These UA effects might hypothetically explain, at least in part, the relationship observed between elevated plasma levels of UA and cardiovascular events.

PurposeThis article presents a process of building a practice-driven research agenda for Quebrada de Humahuaca, a World Heritage cultural landscape in northern Argentina, developed under the framework of the Heritage Place Lab (2021–2022) led by the World Heritage Leadership Programme. The research agenda aims to improve the property's management and governance structures through an inclusive approach that considers the participation of all stakeholders and rights holders.Design/methodology/approachThrough collaborative work, a step-by-step methodology was employed that included identifying the property's values and attributes, the involvement of different actors in its management and their specific roles, and the factors that might cause real or potential impacts. The systematisation and analysis of this information served to define research priorities and a practice-driven research agenda.FindingsA range of conflicts and threats were identified, and the values and attributes that define the property were recognised. The collaborative process helped define research priorities and allowed the development of a preliminary research agenda, which, in the long term, can meet the needs of the property's World Heritage Management Unit.Originality/valueThe originality of this work lies in the collaborative work undertaken by the research and practice teams to define a new research agenda based on practical needs to improve the management and governance structures of the World Heritage property.

The use of superconducting microresonators together with quantum-limited Josephson parametric amplifiers has enhanced the sensitivity of pulsed electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements by more than four orders of magnitude. So far, the microwave resonators and amplifiers have been designed as separate components due to the incompatibility of Josephson junction–based devices with magnetic fields. This has produced complex spectrometers and raised technical barriers toward adoption of the technique. Here, we circumvent this issue by coupling an ensemble of spins directly to a weakly nonlinear and magnetic field–resilient superconducting microwave resonator. We perform pulsed ESR measurements with a 1-pL mode volume containing 6 × 10 7 spins and amplify the resulting signals within the device. When considering only those spins that contribute to the detected signals, we find a sensitivity of 2.8 × 1 0 3 spins / Hz for a Hahn echo sequence at a temperature of 400 mK. In situ amplification is demonstrated at fields up to 254 mT, highlighting the technique’s potential for application under conventional ESR operating conditions.

The spins of atoms and atom-like systems are among the most coherent objects in which to store quantum information. However, the need to address them using oscillating magnetic fields hinders their integration with quantum electronic devices. Here, we circumvent this hurdle by operating a single-atom “flip-flop” qubit in silicon, where quantum information is encoded in the electron-nuclear states of a phosphorus donor. The qubit is controlled using local electric fields at microwave frequencies, produced within a metal-oxide-semiconductor device. The electrical drive is mediated by the modulation of the electron-nuclear hyperfine coupling, a method that can be extended to many other atomic and molecular systems and to the hyperpolarization of nuclear spin ensembles. These results pave the way to the construction of solid-state quantum processors where dense arrays of atoms can be controlled using only local electric fields.

Out-of-time-ordered correlation functions (OTOCs) play a crucial role in the study of thermalization, entanglement, and quantum chaos, as they quantify the scrambling of quantum information due to complex interactions. As a consequence of their out-of-time-ordered nature, OTOCs are difficult to measure experimentally. Here we propose an OTOC measurement protocol that does not rely on the reversal of time evolution and is easy to implement in a range of experimental settings. The protocol accounts for both pure and mixed initial states, and is applicable to systems that interact with environmental degrees of freedom. We demonstrate the application of our protocol by the characterization of scrambling in a periodically-driven spin that exhibits quantum chaos., 12 pages, 7 figures. A fault-tolerant quantum processor may be configured using stationary qubits interacting only with their nearest neighbours, but at the cost of significant overheads in physical qubits per logical qubit. Such overheads could be reduced by coherently transporting qubits across the chip, allowing connectivity beyond immediate neighbours. Here we demonstrate high-fidelity coherent transport of an electron spin qubit between quantum dots in isotopically-enriched silicon. We observe qubit precession in the inter-site tunnelling regime and assess the impact of qubit transport using Ramsey interferometry and quantum state tomography techniques. We report a polarization transfer fidelity of 99.97% and an average coherent transfer fidelity of 99.4%. Platelets aggregation leading to thrombosis plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and of stent thrombosis. Antiplatelet therapy with aspirin plus an ADP-receptor inhibitor (ticagrerol, prasugrel or clopidogrel) is recommended to reduce the risk of other platelet-mediated events. Clopidogrel is recommended in patients with Chronic Coronary Syndromes (CCS) or in ACS patients at high bleeding risk. Unfortunately, up to 30% of patients are non-responders to clopidogrel and show residual high platelet reactivity (HPR). Colchicine (COLC) is a drug with cardiovascular effects. We have demonstrated that COLC might exert protective cardiovascular effects by interfering with cytoskeleton rearrangement, a phenomenon involved in platelet aggregation. Here, we investigate in vitro the effects of colchicine on platelet aggregation of patients on DAPT with clopidogrel. Platelets obtained from 35 CCS patients on therapy with clopidogrel were pre-incubated with COLC 10µM before being stimulated with ADP (20µM), or TRAP (25µM) at 0, 30, 60 and 90min to measure max aggregation by LTA. Platelets not COLC-preincubated served as controls. Seven patients were pre-selected as clopidogrel non-responders. COLC significantly reduced TRAP-induced platelet aggregation in clopidogrel responders and non-responders. Interestingly, COLC inhibited ADP-induced platelet aggregation in clopidogrel non-responders in which ADP still caused activation despite DAPT. We demonstrate that COLC inhibits platelet aggregation in clopidogrel non-responders with HPR despite DAPT with this ADP receptor-inhibitor. Further in vivo studies should be designed to evaluate the opportunity to prescribe colchicine after ACS/CCS to overcome the clopidogrel limitations in the DAPT therapy.

Quantum computers are expected to outperform conventional computers in several important applications, from molecular simulation to search algorithms, once they can be scaled up to large numbers—typically millions—of quantum bits (qubits). For most solid-state qubit technologies—for example, those using superconducting circuits or semiconductor spins—scaling poses a considerable challenge because every additional qubit increases the heat generated, whereas the cooling power of dilution refrigerators is severely limited at their operating temperature (less than 100 millikelvin). Here we demonstrate the operation of a scalable silicon quantum processor unit cell comprising two qubits confined to quantum dots at about 1.5 kelvin. We achieve this by isolating the quantum dots from the electron reservoir, and then initializing and reading the qubits solely via tunnelling of electrons between the two quantum dots. We coherently control the qubits using electrically driven spin resonance in isotopically enriched silicon. Si, attaining single-qubit gate fidelities of 98.6 per cent and a coherence time of 2 microseconds during ‘hot’ operation, comparable to those of spin qubits in natural silicon at millikelvin temperatures. Furthermore, we show that the unit cell can be operated at magnetic fields as low as 0.1 tesla, corresponding to a qubit control frequency of 3.5 gigahertz, where the qubit energy is well below the thermal energy. The unit cell constitutes the core building block of a full-scale silicon quantum computer and satisfies layout constraints required by error-correction architectures. Our work indicates that a spin-based quantum computer could be operated at increased temperatures in a simple pumped 4He system (which provides cooling power orders of magnitude higher than that of dilution refrigerators), thus potentially enabling the integration of classical control electronics with the qubit array.

Microwave delivery to samples in a cryogenic environment can pose experimental challenges such as restricting optical access, space constraints, and heat generation. Moreover, existing solutions that overcome various experimental restrictions do not necessarily provide a large homogeneous oscillating magnetic field over macroscopic length scales, which is required for control of spin ensembles or fast gate operations in scaled-up quantum computing implementations. Here, we show fast and coherent control of a negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy spin ensemble by taking advantage of the high permittivity of a ${\mathrm{K}\mathrm{Ta}\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ dielectric resonator at cryogenic temperatures. We achieve Rabi frequencies of up to 48 MHz, with a total power-to-field conversion factor ${C}_{\mathrm{P}}=\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}9.66\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}\mathrm{mT}/\sqrt{\mathrm{W}}$ (approximately $191\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{MHz}}_{\mathrm{Rabi}}/\sqrt{\mathrm{W}}$). We use the nitrogen-vacancy-center spin ensemble to probe the quality factor, the coherent enhancement, and the spatial distribution of the magnetic field inside the diamond sample. The key advantages of the dielectric resonator utilized in this work are ease of assembly, in situ tunability, a high magnetic field conversion efficiency, a low-volume footprint, and optical transparency. This makes ${\mathrm{K}\mathrm{Ta}\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ dielectric resonators a promising platform for the delivery of microwave fields for the control of spins in various materials at cryogenic temperatures.

Nuclear spins were among the first physical platforms to be considered for quantum information processing

The performance requirements for fault-tolerant quantum computing are very stringent. Qubits must be manipulated, coupled, and measured with error rates well below 1%. For semiconductor implementations, silicon quantum dot spin qubits have demonstrated average single-qubit Clifford gate error rates that approach this threshold, notably with error rates of 0.14% in isotopically enriched $^{28}$Si/SiGe devices. This gate performance, together with high-fidelity two-qubit gates and measurements, is only known to meet the threshold for fault-tolerant quantum computing in some architectures when assuming that the noise is incoherent, and still lower error rates are needed to reduce overhead. Here we experimentally show that pulse engineering techniques, widely used in magnetic resonance, improve average Clifford gate error rates for silicon quantum dot spin qubits to 0.043%,a factor of 3 improvement on previous best results for silicon quantum dot devices. By including tomographically complete measurements in randomised benchmarking, we infer a higher-order feature of the noise called the unitarity, which measures the coherence of noise. This in turn allows us to theoretically predict that average gate error rates as low as 0.026% may be achievable with further pulse improvements. These fidelities are ultimately limited by Markovian noise, which we attribute to charge noise emanating from the silicon device structure itself, or the environment.

For the past three decades, nanoscience has widely affected many areas in physics, chemistry, and engineering, and has led to numerous fundamental discoveries as well as applications and products. Concurrently, quantum science and technology has developed into a cross-disciplinary research endeavour connecting these same areas and holds a burgeoning commercial promise. Although quantum physics dictates the behaviour of nanoscale objects, quantum coherence, which is central to quantum information, communication and sensing has not played an explicit role in much of nanoscience. This Review describes fundamental principles and practical applications of quantum coherence in nanoscale systems, a research area we call quantum-coherent nanoscience. We structure this manuscript according to specific degrees of freedom that can be quantum-coherently controlled in a given nanoscale system such as charge, spin, mechanical motion, and photons. Background Tissue Factor (TF) plays a pivotal role in coronary thrombosis. Oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) are crucial in development of atherosclerosclerosis. Moreover, oxLDL are known to induce TF expression on several cell types including endothelial cells. The lectin-type oxidized LDL receptor 1 (LOX-1) represent the oxLDL receptor. Colchicine is an anti-mitotic drug recently proven to have beneficial effects in cardiovascular disease via unknown mechanisms. Thus, we aim at investigating colchicine effects on TF expression in oxLDL stimulated human vascular endothelial cells (HUVEC). Some molecular mechanism(s) potentially involved were investigated. Methods HUVEC were pre-incubated with colchicine 10 μM for 1 h and then stimulated with oxLDL (50 μg/mL). TF gene (RT-PCR), protein (western blot), surface expression (FACS) and procoagulant activity (FXa generation assay) were measured. TF translocation to cell surface was investigated by immunofluorescence. NF-κB/IκB axis was examined by western blot analysis and translocation assay. Finally, LOX-1 expression was also investigated. Results Colchicine significantly reduced TF gene and protein expression as well as its procoagulant activity in oxLDL-treated HUVEC. These effects seem to be related mainly to action of colchicine on microtubules that, in turn, modulate TF trafficking in the cytoplasm, NF-κB/IκB pathway and LOX-1 expression. Conclusions Data of the present study, although in vitro, indicate that one of the hypothetical mechanisms by which colchicine exert protective cardiovascular effects might be its ability to inhibit the pro-thrombotic activity of oxLDL.

After 150 years of research, the gemstone ruby (Cr${}^{3+}$ in Al${}_{2}$O${}_{3}$) still reveals interesting properties. Here, the authors use its spin properties to conduct all-optical thermometry inside a dilution refrigerator, reaching lattice temperatures as low as 143 mK under continuous, low-power laser excitation. They measure the spin relaxation time down to these unprecedented low temperatures, and demonstrate optically detected magnetic resonance within the rich spin structure of the Cr${}^{3+}$ ions.

Dopant atoms are ubiquitous in semiconductor technologies, providing the tailored electronic properties that underpin the modern digital information era. Harnessing the quantum nature of these atomic-scale objects represents a new and exciting technological revolution. In this article we describe the use of ion-implanted donor spins in silicon for quantum technologies. We review how to fabricate and operate single-atom spin qubits in silicon, obtaining some of the most coherent solid-state qubits, and we discuss pathways to scale up these qubits to build large quantum processors. Heavier group-V donors with large nuclear spins display electric quadrupole couplings that enable nuclear electric resonance, quantum chaos and strain sensing. Donor ensembles can be coupled to microwave cavities to develop hybrid quantum Turing machines. Counted, deterministic implantation of single donors, combined with novel methods for precision placement, will allow the integration of individual donors spins with industry-standard silicon fabrication processes, making implanted donors a prime physical platform for the second quantum revolution., 18 pages, 11 figures, 134 references. The quantum coherence and gate fidelity of electron spin qubits in semiconductors is often limited by noise arising from coupling to a bath of nuclear spins. Isotopic enrichment of spin-zero nuclei such as $^{28}$Si has led to spectacular improvements of the dephasing time $T_2^*$ which, surprisingly, can extend two orders of magnitude beyond theoretical expectations. Using a single-atom $^{31}$P qubit in enriched $^{28}$Si, we show that the abnormally long $T_2^*$ is due to the controllable freezing of the dynamics of the residual $^{29}$Si nuclei close to the donor. Our conclusions are supported by a nearly parameter-free modeling of the $^{29}$Si nuclear spin dynamics, which reveals the degree of back-action provided by the electron spin as it interacts with the nuclear bath. This study clarifies the limits of ergodic assumptions in analyzing many-body spin-problems under conditions of strong, frequent measurement, and provides novel strategies for maximizing coherence and gate fidelity of spin qubits in semiconductors., 11 pages, 5 figures

Silicon nanoelectronic devices can host single-qubit quantum logic operations with fidelity better than 99.9%. For the spins of an electron bound to a single donor atom, introduced in the silicon by ion implantation, the quantum information can be stored for nearly 1 second. However, manufacturing a scalable quantum processor with this method is considered challenging, because of the exponential sensitivity of the exchange interaction that mediates the coupling between the qubits. Here we demonstrate the conditional, coherent control of an electron spin qubit in an exchange-coupled pair of $^{31}$P donors implanted in silicon. The coupling strength, $J = 32.06 \pm 0.06$ MHz, is measured spectroscopically with unprecedented precision. Since the coupling is weaker than the electron-nuclear hyperfine coupling $A \approx 90$ MHz which detunes the two electrons, a native two-qubit Controlled-Rotation gate can be obtained via a simple electron spin resonance pulse. This scheme is insensitive to the precise value of $J$, which makes it suitable for the scale-up of donor-based quantum computers in silicon that exploit the Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor fabrication protocols commonly used in the classical electronics industry., 10 pages, 5 figures, plus Supplementary Information. v2 contains additional references, and a simpler explanation of two-qubit CROT gates for donors in silicon

In recent years semiconducting qubits have undergone a remarkable evolution, making great strides in overcoming decoherence as well as in prospects for scalability, and have become one of the leading contenders for the development of large-scale quantum circuits. In this Review we describe the current state of the art in semiconductor charge and spin qubits based on gate-controlled semiconductor quantum dots, shallow dopants, and color centers in wide band gap materials. We frame the relative strengths of the different semiconductor qubit implementations in the context of quantum simulations, computing, sensing and networks. By highlighting the status and future perspectives of the basic types of semiconductor qubits, this Review aims to serve as a technical introduction for non-specialists as well as a forward-looking reference for scientists intending to work in this field., Review article, feedback welcome, 27 pages, 5 figures

Quantum gates between spin qubits can be implemented leveraging the natural Heisenberg exchange interaction between two electrons in contact with each other. This interaction is controllable by electrically tailoring the overlap between electronic wavefunctions in quantum dot systems, as long as they occupy neighbouring dots. An alternative route is the exploration of superexchange - the coupling between remote spins mediated by a third idle electron that bridges the distance between quantum dots. We experimentally demonstrate direct exchange coupling and provide evidence for second neighbour mediated superexchange in a linear array of three single-electron spin qubits in silicon, inferred from the electron spin resonance frequency spectra. We confirm theoretically through atomistic modeling that the device geometry only allows for sizeable direct exchange coupling for neighbouring dots, while next nearest neighbour coupling cannot stem from the vanishingly small tail of the electronic wavefunction of the remote dots, and is only possible if mediated., 20 pages, 1.4MB, 4 figures

IntroductionMotivating behavioural change during client consultations is of crucial importance across all health professions to address the growing burden of chronic conditions. Yet health professionals often lack the skills and confidence to use evidence-based counselling interventions to support clients’ behavioural change and mobilise clients’ resources and self-efficacy for change to address their long-term needs.AimsThis pre–post pilot study will develop a motivational interviewing (MI) virtual client training tool for health professionals and test the effectiveness of the educational content and usability of the virtual client interaction.Methods and analysisPostgraduate students across a range of health disciplines will be recruited. Data assessing attitudes towards preventive healthcare will be collected using a modified version of the Preventive Medicine Attitudes and Activities Questionnaire. Conversations with the virtual client will be analysed using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity code to assess changes in MI skills. The System Usability Scale will be used to assess the usability of the virtual client training tool.Ethics and disseminationThis protocol was approved by the Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee in May 2019. The results of the pilot study will inform the development of an avatar-based mobile application consisting of MI teaching and interactions with a generic virtual client that can be easily adapted to multiple scenarios.

Aims T-lymphocytes plays an important role in the pathophysiology of acute coronary syndromes. T-cell activation in vitro by pro-inflammatory cytokines may lead to functional tissue factor (TF) expression, indicating a possible contribution of immunity to thrombosis. Oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDLs) are found abundantly in atherosclerotic plaques. We aimed at evaluating the effects of oxLDLs on TF expression in T cells and the role of the lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (LOX-1). Methods and results CD3+ cells were isolated from healthy volunteers. Gene, protein, and surface expression of TF, as well as of LOX-1, were assessed at different time-points after oxLDL stimulation. To determine whether oxLDL-induced TF was LOX-1 dependent, T cells were pre-incubated with an LOX-1 inhibiting peptide (L-RBP) or with an anti-LOX-1 blocking antibody. To exclude that TF expression was mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, oxLDL-stimulated T cells were pre-incubated with superoxide dismutase + catalase or with 4-Hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (Tempol), an intracellular free radical scavenger. Finally, to determine if the observed findings in vitro may have a biological relevance, the presence of CD3+/TF+/LOX-1+ cells was evaluated by immunofluorescence in human carotid atherosclerotic lesions. oxLDLs induced functionally active TF expression in T cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, independently on ROS generation. No effect was observed in native LDL-treated T cells. LOX-1 expression was also induced by oxLDLs in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Pre-incubation with L-RBP or anti-LOX-1 antibody almost completely inhibited oxLDL-mediated TF expression. Interestingly, human carotid plaques showed significant infiltration of CD3+ cells (mainly CD8+ cells), some of which were positive for both TF and LOX-1. Conclusion oxLDLs induce functional TF expression in T-lymphocytes in vitro via interaction of oxLDLs with LOX-1. Human carotid atherosclerotic plaques contain CD3+/CD8+cells that express both TF and LOX-1, indicating that also in patients these mechanisms may play an important role.

Epidemiologic studies have clearly demonstrated the correlation existing between Vitamin D (Vit. D) deficiency and increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, suggesting that it might have a protective role in this clinical setting. Although many experimental studies have investigated the molecular mechanisms by which Vit. D might exert these effects, its potential role in protecting against athero-thrombosis is still partially unknown. We have investigated whether Vit. D might exert anti athero-thombotic effects by preventing expression of adhesion molecules (CAMs) and Tissue Factor (TF), molecules involved in atherothrombotic pathophysiology, in oxLDL stimulated endothelial cells (HUVEC). Moreover, we have investigated whether Vit. D effects might be due to the NF-kB modulation. HUVEC cultivated in medium enriched with Vit. D (10 nM) were stimulated with oxLDL (50 μg/ml). TF gene (RT-PCR), protein (Western blot), surface expression (FACS) and procoagulant activity (FXa generation assay) were measured. Similarly, CAMs gene (RT-PCR), surface expression (FACS) and soluble values (ELISA) were measured. NF-kB translocation was also investigated. Vit. D significantly reduced TF gene as well protein expression and procoagulant activity in oxLDL-treated HUVEC. Similar effects were observed for CAMs. These effects were associated with Vit. D modulation of NF-κB pathway. This study, although in vitro, indicate that Vit. D has protective effect on endothelial cells by inhibiting expression of TF and CAMs, proteins involved in atherothrombotic pathophysiology. Further studies will be necessary to translate these findings to a clinical scenario to better define the potential therapeutical role of Vit. D supplementation in the management of cardiovascular disease in patients with Vit. D deficiency.

Magnetic fields are a standard tool in the toolbox of every physicist, and are required for the characterization of materials, as well as the polarization of spins in nuclear magnetic resonance or electron paramagnetic resonance experiments. Quite often a static magnetic field of sufficiently large, but fixed magnitude is suitable for these tasks. Here we present a permanent magnet assembly that can achieve magnetic field strengths of up to 1.5T over an air gap length of 7mm. The assembly is based on a Halbach array of neodymium (NdFeB) magnets, with the inclusion of the soft magnetic material Supermendur to boost the magnetic field strength inside the air gap. We present the design, simulation and characterization of the permanent magnet assembly, measuring an outstanding magnetic field stability with a drift rate of |D| < 2.8 ppb/h. Our measurements demonstrate that this assembly can be used for spin qubit experiments inside a dilution refrigerator, successfully replacing the more expensive and bulky superconducting solenoids., 10 pages, 5 figures
