Abstract Background Within England, children and young people entering police custody are referred to Liaison and Diversion (L&D) teams. These teams liaise with healthcare and other support services aiming to divert children and young people away from the criminal justice system. Although targeted psychological interventions are not typically offered to children and young people by L&D teams, evidence suggests that Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) leads to a reduction in internalising and externalising behaviour problems. Methods A two-arm individually randomised controlled trial (RCT) with internal pilot and process evaluation will be conducted with approximately 448 children and young people aged 10–17 years presenting at police custody suites who are referred to the L&D team or recruited via online routes if they have previously presented at any police custody suite in England. The primary outcome is the Self-Report Delinquency Measure (SRDM) at 6 months post-randomisation. Analyses will be performed using intention-to-treat. Results The statistical analysis plan (SAP) for the trial is described. The plan details of analyses to be undertaken which will be reported in the primary and any secondary publications. The plan was developed and published prior to locking our database and unblinding to treatment allocation. Discussion This RCT will evaluate the effectiveness of SFBT in reducing offending behaviours in CYP presenting at police custody suites including testing of moderating factors and sensitivity of the primary analyses. With ecosystem services (ES) vital for human wellbeing1, the protection of nature is a human rights matter. We outline how recent advances in international human rights law should inform a revamp of how precaution is applied within environmental decision-making. Critically, precautionary decision-making must evolve to make use of best-available evidence, including novel ES research approaches, to assess ‘foreseeable’ harms to all aspects of human wellbeing that are protected as human rights.

Abstract Background Within England, children and young people (CYP) who come into police custody are referred to Liaison and Diversion (L&D) teams. L&D teams have responsibility for liaising with healthcare and other support services while working to divert CYP away from the criminal justice system but have traditionally not provided targeted psychological interventions to CYP. Considering evidence that Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) leads to a reduction in internalising and externalising behaviour problems in CYP, the aim of this randomised controlled trial (RCT) was to determine whether there is a difference between services as usual (SAU) plus SFBT offered by trained therapists working within a L&D team, and SAU alone, in reducing offending behaviours in 10–17-year-olds presenting at police custody. Methods Design: two-arm individually RCT with internal pilot and process evaluation. Participants: N = approximately 448 CYP aged 10–17 years presenting at one of three police custody suites in the area served by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT) who are referred to the L&D team. Participants will be recruited and allocated to intervention:control on a 1:1 basis. Interviews will be performed with 30–40 CYP in the intervention arm, 15 CYP in the control arm, up to 20 parents/guardians across both arms, up to 15 practitioners, and up to 10 site staff responsible for screening CYP for the trial. Intervention and control: Those allocated to the intervention will be offered SAU plus SFBT, and control participants will receive SAU only. Primary outcome: CYP frequency of offending behaviours assessed through the Self-Report Delinquency Measure (SRDM) at 12 months post-randomisation. Secondary outcomes: criminal offence data (national police database); emotional and behavioural difficulties (self-report and parent/guardian reported); gang affiliation (self-report). Process evaluation: evaluation of acceptability and experiences of the CYP, parents/guardians, site staff and practitioners; fidelity of SFBT delivery. Discussion This two-arm individually RCT will evaluate the effectiveness of SFBT in reducing offending behaviours in CYP presenting at police custody suites within the area served by LSCFT. Our process evaluation will assess the fidelity of delivery of SFBT, the factors affecting implementation, the acceptability of SFBT in CYP aged 10–17 years and recruitment and reach. We will also examine systems and structures for future delivery, therefore assessing overall scalability. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov ISRCTN14195235 . Registered on June 16, 2023.

This article aims to study the values of cultural heritage acknowledged in non-urban areas when cultural heritage is considered a key factor for development. The primary outcome of the analysis is the creation of a taxonomy of six values, derived from an interdisciplinary literature review, which can be used to interpret cultural heritage-driven projects and provide a deeper understanding of the role of cultural heritage for local communities. This, in turn, can guide successful strategies for local development through several types of heritage, such as museums, archives and libraries, archaeological and historical sites, community interest places, industrial, religious and rural sites. The findings contribute to a comprehensive description of cultural heritage’s role in rural and mountain areas and offer a holistic perspective on the interaction among heritage values, new knowledge, projects, and local development. Questo articolo si propone di studiare i valori del patrimonio culturale riconosciuti, in aree non urbane e nelle condizioni in cui il patrimonio è considerato un fattore chiave per lo sviluppo. Il risultato principale dell’analisi è la creazione di una tassonomia di sei valori, derivata da una revisione interdisciplinare della letteratura, che può essere utilizzata per interpretare progetti cultural heritage-driven e fornire una comprensione più profonda del ruolo del patrimonio culturale per le comunità locali. Questo, a sua volta, può guidare strategie di successo per lo sviluppo locale attraverso diverse categorie di patrimonio, come musei, archivi e biblioteche, siti archeologici e storici, luoghi di interesse comunitario, siti industriali, religiosi e rurali. I risultati contribuiscono a una descrizione completa del ruolo del patrimonio culturale nelle aree rurali e montane e offrono una prospettiva olistica sull’interazione tra valori del patrimonio, nuova conoscenza, progettazione e sviluppo locale.

The challenge to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, and resilient, including mitigation and adaptation strategies against disaster, is a central issue in achieving sustainability. This research proposes a tool to measure local vulnerability from a multi-risk approach. The municipality of Moncalieri, Italy, was used as a case study within the research activities of the Responsible Risk Resilience Centre from the Polytechnic of Turin to test the vulnerability matrix. The tool consists of a mathematical framework for the territorial vulnerability assessment that integrates multiple indicators clustered into three factors defined as sensitivity, pressures, and hazards, weighted according to a participatory procedure. Space-dependent analyses using the Geographical Information System were developed from the multiple nested indicators to project the vulnerability index onto a homogeneous grid in the territory of interest. Thematic maps referring to the systemic vulnerability by different sensitivity components were generated. The tool not only contributes to increasing the awareness of territorial vulnerability but also offers support to resilience-based decision-making in designing technical measures of policies at a local scale. Further research is required to implement the framework in different scenarios and develop the model's temporal behaviour.

This paper investigates the microclimate in a conference room with thermal stratification, taking as a case study the chapel of Villa San Saverio, now the seat of the “Scuola Superiore” of the University of Catania (Italy). Surveys of the former chapel were conducted to monitor air temperature and relative humidity. Subsequently, the investigation relied on numerical simulations of a simplified computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model built with the DesignBuilder v7.0 software and validated by comparison with measured values. Simulations were then carried out considering three different scenarios: the current state without any HVAC system and two possible HVAC system configurations providing both air conditioning and ventilation. The results show that, from a comfort perspective, a lightweight radiant floor heating system, assisted by an appropriate ventilation system for air renewal placed at the floor level near the occupants, is preferable to floor-level fan coils and high ventilation channels. Furthermore, this was also confirmed by a preliminary energy analysis of the two HVAC options, where the ventilation effectiveness of the winter period, the temperature of the water the emitters are fed, the consequent COP value of the heat pump, and the electricity consumption were taken into consideration.

Ustekinumab is a monoclonal antibody targeting the p40 subunit of IL-12 and IL-23, approved for treating psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Despite a remarkable success in treating chronic inflammatory conditions and a generally favorable safety profile, its role in inducing rare adverse events, such as interstitial pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), remains largely uncharted. We report a case of a 66-year-old male patient treated with Ustekinumab for severe psoriasis who, after almost two years of treatment, developed dyspnea, asthenia, and fever progressing to non-infectious pneumonia and ARDS leading to ICU admission. Moreover, we conducted a literature review on Ustekinumab-associated pulmonary complications. Our case underscores the importance of appropriate and long-term clinical monitoring in patients on Ustekinumab treatment, particularly considering the potential lung complications. The possibility of non-infectious pneumonitis should be considered alongside infectious causes, facilitating prompt management in the case of negative infectious screening. Additionally, the severity of ARDS underscores the importance of timely recognition and proper management. Further investigations are recommended to investigate the immunological basis of Ustekinumab-induced ARDS for designing appropriate monitoring strategies.
