Abstract

We present a campaign designed to train the GRANDMA network and its infrastructure to follow up on transient alerts and detect their early afterglows. In preparation for O4 II campaign, we focused on GRB alerts as they are expected to be an electromagnetic counterpart of gravitational-wave events. Our goal was to improve our response to the alerts and start prompt observations as soon as possible to better prepare the GRANDMA network for the fourth observational run of LIGO-Virgo-Kagra (which started at the end of May 2023), and future missions such as SM. To receive, manage and send out observational plans to our partner telescopes we set up dedicated infrastructure and a rota of follow-up adcates were organized to guarantee round-the-clock assistance to our telescope teams. To ensure a great number of observations, we focused on Swift GRBs whose localization errors were generally smaller than the GRANDMA telescopes' field of view. This allowed us to bypass the transient identification process and focus on the reaction time and efficiency of the network. During 'Ready for O4 II', 11 Swift/INTEGRAL GRB triggers were selected, nine fields had been observed, and three afterglows were detected (GRB 220403B, GRB 220427A, GRB 220514A), with 17 GRANDMA telescopes and 17 amateur astronomers from the citizen science project Kilonova-Catcher. Here we highlight the GRB 220427A analysis where our long-term follow-up of the host galaxy allowed us to obtain a photometric redshift of $z=0.82\pm0.09$, its lightcurve elution, fit the decay slope of the afterglows, and study the properties of the host galaxy.

Abstract

GRB~230812B is a bright and relatively nearby ($z =0.36$) long gamma-ray burst (GRB) that has generated significant interest in the community and has thus been observed over the entire electromagnetic spectrum. We report over 80 observations in X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, infrared, and sub-millimeter bands from the GRANDMA (Global Rapid Advanced Network for Multi-messenger Addicts) network of observatories and from observational partners. Adding complementary data from the literature, we then derive essential physical parameters associated with the ejecta and external properties (i.e. the geometry and environment) of the GRB and compare with other analyses of this event. We spectroscopically confirm the presence of an associated supernova, SN2023pel, and we derive a photospheric expansion velocity of v $\sim$ 17$\times10^3$ km s$^{-1}$. We analyze the photometric data first using empirical fits of the flux and then with full Bayesian Inference. We again strongly establish the presence of a supernova in the data, with a maximum (pseudo-)bolometric luminosity of $5.75 \times 10^{42}$ erg/s, at $15.76^{+0.81}_{-1.21}$ days (in the observer frame) after the trigger, with a half-max time width of 22.0 days. We compare these values with those of SN1998bw, SN2006aj, and SN2013dx. Our best-fit model favours a very low density environment ($\log_{10}({n_{\rm ISM}/{\rm cm}^{-3}}) = -2.38^{+1.45}_{-1.60}$) and small values for the jet's core angle $\theta_{\rm core} = 1.54^{+1.02}_{-0.81} \ \rm{deg}$ and viewing angle $\theta_{\rm obs} = 0.76^{+1.29}_{-0.76} \ \rm{deg}$. GRB 230812B is thus one of the best observed afterglows with a distinctive supernova bump.

Abstract

GRB 221009A is the brightest Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) detected in more than 50 years of study. In this paper, we present observations in the X-ray and optical domains after the GRB obtained by the GRANDMA Collaboration (which includes observations from more than 30 professional and amateur telescopes) and the Insight-HXMT Collaboration. We study the optical afterglow with empirical fitting from GRANDMA+HXMT data, augmented with data from the literature up to 60 days. We then model numerically, using a Bayesian approach, the GRANDMA and HXMT-LE afterglow observations, that we augment with Swift-XRT and additional optical/NIR observations reported in the literature. We find that the GRB afterglow, extinguished by a large dust column, is most likely behind a combination of a large Milky-Way dust column combined with moderate low-metallicity dust in the host galaxy. Using the GRANDMA+HXMT-LE+XRT dataset, we find that the simplest model, where the observed afterglow is produced by synchrotron radiation at the forward external shock during the deceleration of a top-hat relativistic jet by a uniform medium, fits the multi-wavelength observations only moderately well, with a tension between the observed temporal and spectral evolution. This tension is confirmed when using the extended dataset. We find that the consideration of a jet structure (Gaussian or power-law), the inclusion of synchrotron self-Compton emission, or the presence of an underlying supernova do not improve the predictions, showing that the modelling of GRB22109A will require going beyond the most standard GRB afterglow model. Placed in the global context of GRB optical afterglows, we find the afterglow of GRB 221009A is luminous but not extraordinarily so, highlighting that some aspects of this GRB do not deviate from the global known sample despite its extreme energetics and the peculiar afterglow evolution., Comment: Accepted to ApJL for the special issue, 37 pages, 23 pages main text, 6 tables, 13 figures

The results obtained by these methods are compared to an analysis by means of the technique of impedance spectroscopy and we analyzed the ability of this technique to assess the state of mortars and degree of internal damage occurredEn el presente trabajo se evalúan diferentes morteros, con distinto grado de daño por la acción de ciclos de hielo-deshielo, analizando su estado mediante diferentes métodos de evaluación habituales. Los resultados obtenidos por estos métodos se comparan con un análisis mediante la técnica de espectroscopía de impedancia, analizándose la capacidad de esta técnica para evaluar el estado de los morteros y el grado de daño interno producido.

Abstract

GRANDMA is a world-wide collaboration with the primary scientific goal of studying gravitational-wave sources, discovering their electromagnetic counterparts and characterizing their emission. GRANDMA involves astronomers, astrophysicists, gravitational-wave physicists, and theorists. GRANDMA is now a truly global network of telescopes, with (so far) 30 telescopes in both hemispheres. It incorporates a citizen science programme (Kilonova-Catcher) which constitutes an opportunity to spread the interest in time-domain astronomy. The telescope network is an heterogeneous set of already-existing observing facilities that operate coordinated as a single observatory. Within the network there are wide-field imagers that can observe large areas of the sky to search for optical counterparts, narrow-field instruments that do targeted searches within a predefined list of host-galaxy candidates, and larger telescopes that are devoted to characterization and follow-up of the identified counterparts. Here we present an overview of GRANDMA after the third observing run of the LIGO/VIRGO gravitational-wave observatories in $2019-2020$ and its ongoing preparation for the forthcoming fourth observational campaign (O4). Abstract

The application of electrical fields to determine the chloride diffusion coefficients through concrete has become a need in order to obtain the required results in reasonable periods of time. However, this acceleration could modify the complex interactions between the chloride ions and the cementitious matrix, being the coefficients obtained by migration tests not representative of those of natural conditions. This subject is undertaken in this paper by performing steady and non-steady state migration tests for chlorides and natural diffusion for oxygen and chloride ions. As a result it has been stated that when applying an electrical field (until 10.5 V/cm), the transport of chloride ions take place through the same kind of pores, but the interaction to combine chlorides is smaller than when driven by natural diffusion. This is a point to be taken into account when designing the experimental conditions for migration tests to determine the non steady state diffusion coefficient of chloride ions.La determinación de coeficientes de difusión de los iones cloruro a través del hormigón precisa en muchas ocasiones de la aplicación de campos eléctricos con el fin de obtener resultados en plazos razonables de tiempo. Sin embargo, esta aceleración del transporte podría modificar las complejas interacciones que tienen lugar entre los iones cloruro y la matriz de cemento, haciendo que los coeficientes obtenidos mediante ensayos de migración no fueran representativos de condiciones de difusión natural. Este aspecto se aborda en el presente trabajo mediante la realización de ensayos de migración de cloruros en estado estacionario y no estacionario, así como de difusión natural de cloruros y oxígeno en estado estacionario. Como resultado, se ha podido establecer que cuando el transporte se produce por migración, hasta un campo aplicado de 10.5 V/cm, ésta tiene lugar a través de poros del mismo tamaño que por los que se lleva a cabo la difusión natural, produciéndose una interacción más débil del adsorbato con el sustrato que en difusión natural, lo que debe tenerse en cuenta a la hora de diseñar los ensayos de migración para la determinación de los coeficientes de difusión de cloruros en estado no estacionario.

Abstract

In this work the dielectric properties of concrete with and without chlorides as a function of their water contents were studied by the Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Specimens of cement paste with different water/cement ratio and chlorides content was analyzed. After drying the specimens, the rehydratation was controled by the relative weight increasing. Adetailed study of the dielectric behavior in the range of 20 Hz to 40 MHz according to the water and the chlorides contents was made. The results were discussed in the framework of the material processes.En el presente trabajo se estudia como varían las propiedades dieléctricas del material con su contenido en humedad de pastas de cemento, con y sin cloruros, mediante la Espectroscopia de Impedancia Electroquímica, EIS. Para ello se fabricaron pastas de cemento con diferentes relaciones agua/cemento, y con diferente contenido de cloruros. Después de someter las muestras a procesos de secado, se procede a la rehidratación de las mismas, controlando el contenido de agua, por medio del incremento en peso relativo. Se hace un estudio pormenorizado de la respuesta eléctrica del material en el rango de 20Hz a 40MHz, en función del contenido de agua, y de la presencia de cloruros, y se relacionan los resultados con los procesos químicos presentes en el material.

Abstract

The present work describes an accelerated leaching method that with a rapid process allows to develop and evaluate cements for use in a nuclear disposal, and the understanding of the long term effects. The method has been developed to study the stability of cementitious materials in contact with bentonite, to be used in high level radioactivity waste repositories. Nitric acid has been selected to simulate in an accelerated way the pH decreasing produced when concrete is in contact with groundwaters.El presente trabajo describe un ensayo acelerado de lixiviación, que mediante un proceso rápido, permite desarrollar y evaluar cementos para su uso en instalaciones nucleares, y la comprensión de su comportamiento a largo plazo. El método se ha desarrollado para estudiar la estabilidad de materiales de base cemento, en contacto con bentonita, que serán utilizados en almacenamientos de resíduos radiactivos de alta actividad. Como agente lixiviante se seleccionó el ácido nítrico, con objeto de simular de forma acelerada, la disminución del pH que se produce cuando el hormigón entra en contacto con aguas subterráneas.

Se discuten diferencias entre Megaleas syrna y la nueva especie.

Abstract

Um total de 148 pacientes com carcinoma do colo de útero, estádio III, encaminhadas ao Serviço de Radioterapia do instituto Nacional de Câncer, no período de janeiro de 1975a dezembro de 1979, foram avaliadas numa tentativa de se estabelecer possíveis fatores prognósticos no grupo. A extensão da invasão parametrial foi o fator prognóstico mais importante, com a sobrevida das pacientes com invasão unilateral sendo significativamente superior àquelas com invasão bi-lateral (p < 0,005). A presença de anemia também mostrou ser de importância prognóstica e todos os esforços devem ser feitos para manter a hemoglobina acima de 12gm. Apesar de que pacientes com mais de 50 anos de idade tenham tido uma sobrevida melhor, essa diferença não alcançou significado estatístico. A extensão da invasão parametrial parece ser o fator prognóstico mais importante e deve ser sempre levada em consideração quando da elaboração de novos estudos.

Abstract

In this document we extend the geographical distribution for three common species of diurnal butterflies from the Colombian Caribbean region (Aides dysoni, Calpodes ethlius, and Anteos clorinde). The specimens were captured with an insect net in samplings conducted in the Arjona jurisdiction (Bolivar, Deparment) in 2015, between 8:00 and 16:00 hours. For each of them we provide important morphological characters for their recognition, and complement their distribution in the Neotropic.

Abstract

Se caracterizó la composición florística, estructura horizontal y diversidad del bosque primario de la subcuenca del río Munguidó, Chocó, Colombia. Se estableció una parcela de muestreo de 1000 x 1000 m en donde se marcaron cuatro parcelas temporales de muestreo (PTM) de 500 x 10 m. En estas PTM se registraron los individuos con diámetro a la altura del pecho ≥ 10 cm. Se calculó el índice de valor de importancia (IVI) con base en la abundancia, dominancia y frecuencia relativas. Se encontró una abundancia promedio de 441 individuos/ha, pertenecientes a 71 especies de 63 géneros y 32 familias. Las familias mejor representadas fueron: Moraceae, Faboideae y Apocinaceae. Las especies de mayor importancia ecológica, según IVI, fueron: Virola reiidi, Chrysophyllum argenteum y Protium veneralense. El bosque de estudio presentó una alta diversidad de especies, con valores en los índices de Equidad de Shannon, Dominancia de Simpson y Diversidad de Margalef 3,6, 0,03 y 10,3, respectivamente. Este ecosistema se caracteriza por poseer una alta riqueza y diversidad de especies y poca presencia de individuos de la familia Arecaceae.
