The development of cementitious cover slabs with replacement of natural sand (NS) by waste green foundry sand (WGFS) and with addition of polyester fibers was the main objective of this work. Different percentages of replacement of NS by WGFS (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%), different cements (CP-V ARI and CP-II Z 32) and addition of polyester fibers (0% and 0.6%) were employed as factors in the experimental design. The results showed that the apparent specific mass decreased when the percentage of aggregate replacement was increased, however, the air void and water absorption of the composite increased with replacement. The highest compressive strengths were obtained for the mortars made entirely with NS, which reached 20.4 MPa and 12.9 MPa for cements CP-V ARI and CP-II Z, respectively. The addition of fibers showed no evidence of significant influence on the properties of prismatic specimens, but the fibers were significantly influential on the properties of cementitious plates. Evaluating the results, it is observed that the total replacement of NS by WGFS, in cementitious cover slabs, is not recommended, because the mechanical strengths reduce around 60% when compared to the reference material

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) can rarely present with acute ipsilateral cochlear and/or vestibular loss, to date always in the absence of a clear local otogenic process evidenced by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This association has been putatively attributed to inner ear anoxia due to blockage of inner ear venous drainage. We present a nonreported case of thrombosis of the left transverse and sigmoid sinuses presenting with acute unilateral vestibulopathy in which MRI disclosed concurrent ipsilateral labyrinthine haemorrhage. A 69-year-old female presented with acute vertigo without hearing loss or other accompanying neurological symptoms. Bedside examination revealed spontaneous right-beating nystagmus and an impaired left head impulse response, with an otherwise normal neurological examination. Audiometry and head and ear computed tomography were unremarkable, whereas MRI showed a nonenhancing hyperintensity of the left inner ear consistent with labyrinthine haemorrhage, and additional venography disclosed thrombosis of the left transverse and sigmoid sinuses. Oral anticoagulation was started, and the patient experienced gradual improvement of symptoms. The current case provides support for the existence of inner ear anoxia in CVT cases presenting with acute ipsilateral vestibular loss, which can ultimately be complicated by secondary bleeding, as seen in our patient. Importantly, presentation in our case closely mimicked that of peripheral vestibular neuritis, and only MRI venography enabled us to make a prompt diagnosis. This raises an important question as to when a diagnosis of vestibular neuritis can be made securely in the absence of MRI assessment with or without venography to completely discard labyrinthine haemorrhage with or without CVT.

A medida cautelar assecuratória denominada de real ou patrimonial se divide em três espécies, quais sejam: sequestro, hipoteca legal e arresto. Estas medidas possuem a finalidade de preservação dos bens móveis ou imóveis da pessoa física ou jurídica para indenização à vítima, reparação do dano causado ou impedir o enriquecimento ilícito do agente, já que tais bens podem ter origem na prática criminosa ou sido adquiridos pelos proventos do crime. Já as medidas cautelares pessoais visam a pessoa do acusado, e podem corresponder a uma prisão processual ou uma medida diversa da prisão. Dentre as medidas cautelares diversas da prisão está a suspensão da atividade econômica ou financeira. O Superior Tribunal de Justiça e os Tribunais Regionais Federais em julgamentos que não aprofundam suficientemente a temática, começaram a entender que a medida cautelar pessoal de suspensão da atividade econômica ou financeira do sujeito ativo do crime pode ser aplicada à pessoa jurídica, mesmo que a ela não seja imposta prisão e que sequer participa do processo penal. Essas interpretações, em sua totalidade, também não fazem análise sobre a adequação, proporcionalidade e necessidade das medidas que impõem aos sócios, muito menos à empresa, pois em determinadas situações violam o livre exercício da atividade econômica, trazendo impacto econômico para a empresa e para as próprias pessoas que dela dependem. Assim, torna-se necessária a preservação da sociedade empresarial, se apresentando como um importante instrumento o Criminal Compliance, como medida de prevenção e mitigação dos riscos penais relacionados à atividade empresarial, a fim de evitar medidas processuais penais drásticas como a suspensão da atividade econômica ou financeira da pessoa jurídica. In Criminal Procedure there are precautionary measures that have several functions. The security precautionary measure called real or patrimonial is divided into three types, namely: kidnapping, legal mortgage, and foreclosure. These measures are intended to preserve the movable or immovable property of the individual or legal entity to compensate the victim, repair the damage caused or prevent the illicit enrichment of the agent, since such assets may originate from the criminal practice or have been acquired by the proceeds from the crime. Personal precautionary measures, on the other hand, are aimed at the person of the accused, and may correspond to procedural arrest or a measure other than imprisonment. Among the various precautionary measures of the prison is the suspension of economic or financial activity. The Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Regional Courts, in judgments that do not sufficiently deepen the theme, began to understand that the personal precautionary measure of suspension of the economic or financial activity of the active subject of the crime can be applied to the legal entity, even if to it imprisonment is not imposed and that it does not even participate in the criminal proceedings. These interpretations, in their entirety, also do not analyze the adequacy, proportionality and necessity of the measures they impose on the partners, much less on the company, as in certain situations they violate the free exercise of economic activity, bringing economic impact to the company and to the very people who depend on it. Thus, it is necessary to preserve the business society, presenting itself as an important instrument, Criminal Compliance, as a measure of prevention and mitigation of criminal risks related to business activity.

This paper analyzes a panel dataset of all nonfinancial, non-utilities firms reporting in US Dollars on Compustat during the time period between 1950-2021and with Total Market Capitalization greater than USD 50 million(current values). Comparing the regression coefficients’ statistical significance and values of one general sample of observations with two subsamples, divided according the top 25% percentile of criteria variables proxying intangible intensity, it is concluded that intangible-intensive firms are prone to conduct share repurchases due to its flexibility versus dividends, counteracting thus the volatile nature of their earnings generation.

Upward and downward bias of eye movement signals in the semicircular canals (SCC)- and/or otolith-related central pathways have been proposed to explain the occurrence of vertical nystagmus (downbeat nystagmus [DBN] and upbeat nystagmus [UBN]) and its frequent modulation with head position. Video-head impulse test (VHIT), usually performed in upright position, is a recent development for measuring SCC function. We performed longitudinal nystagmus and VHIT assessments in different head positions in a patient with probable thiamine deficiency, in order to explore a possible relationship between the positional behavior of vertical nystagmus and SCC function. Initially, UBN in upright position changed to DBN in prone position and remained relatively unchanged in supine position. This was associated with both anterior and posterior SCC hyperactive responses in upright position, and a relative enhancement of the anterior SCC responses in prone position and the posterior SCC responses in supine position. Over 1 year, in prone position, change from UBN to DBN and the enhancement of anterior SCC responses remained, while in supine position, UBN either decreased or changed to DBN, when compared to upright position. This was associated with a relative enhancement of the anterior SCC responses in supine position, albeit inconsistently, and the presence of posterior SCC hypoactive responses in all positions, including prone. While not contradicting a primary otolithic dysfunction in the genesis of UBN change to DBN with head position, we provide evidence for positional modulation of SCC function in thiamine deficiency and a possible relationship with nystagmus positional behavior.

Engineering has historically presented itself as an application of scientific or empirical methods, using resources from the natural environment, to leverage the well-being of human beings. However, within the current capitalist model, in which profit is above all and everyone, many engineering processes have more negative externalities than positive ones. This is the case of Vale S.A. in relation to its dam at the Córrego do Feijão mine, which ruptured in 2019, with almost three hundred deaths, affecting the most diverse spatial elements and creating suffering, conflict, tensions and chaos in the territories. In this sense, this paper presents an analysis that seeks to understand the spatial impacts, its relationship with work, safety and environmental control, thought in the principle of prevention and the best practices of the sector. It is evident that the firm, in its desire to maximize profit, disregards risks, thus allocating all environmental liabilities, creating and recreating social suffering in the most diverse territories and populations., A engenharia se apresenta historicamente como uma aplicação de métodos científicos ou empíricos, utilizando os recursos oriundos do ambiente natural, para alavancar o bem-estar dos seres humanos. Todavia, dentro do atual modelo capitalista, em que o lucro está acima de tudo e todos, muitos processos de engenharia apresentam mais externalidades negativas que positivas. É o caso da empresa Vale S.A com relação a sua barragem na mina Córrego do Feijão, rompida em 2019, com quase três centenas de mortes, afetando os mais diversos elementos espaciais e criando sofrimento, conflito, tensões e caos nos territórios. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho apresenta uma análise que busca compreender os impactos espaciais, a sua relação com trabalho, segurança e controle ambiental, pensados no principio da prevenção e as melhores práticas do setor. Fica evidente que a firma, no seu anseio de maximização de lucro, desconsidera os riscos, alocando, portanto, todo o passivo ambiental para a sociedade, criando e recriando sofrimento social nos mais diversos territórios e populações.
