Background: The cancer registry provides reliable data from the population. In this article, we provide cancer burden and its patterns from the Varanasi district. Methods: The method adopted by the Varanasi cancer registry is community interaction along with regular visits to more than 60 sources to collect data on cancer patients. The cancer registry was established by the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, in 2017 covering 4 million population (57% rural and 43% urban population). Results: The registry has recorded 1,907 incidence cases (1,058 male and 849 female). The age-adjusted incidence rate per 100,000 population in male and female of Varanasi district is 59.2 and 52.1, respectively. One in 15 male and one in 17 female are at risk of developing the disease. Mouth and tongue cancers are the predominant cancers in male, whereas breast, cervix uteri, and gallbladder are the leading cancer sites among the female. In female, cervix uteri cancer is significantly higher (double) in rural areas when compared with urban areas (rate ratio [RR] 0.5, 95% confidence interval [CI; 0.36, 0.72]), whereas in male, mouth cancer is higher in urban areas when compared with rural areas (RR 1.4, 95% CI [1.11, 1.72]). More than 50% of cancer cases in male are due to tobacco consumption. There may be underreporting of the cases. Conclusion: The results of the registry warrant policies and activities related to early detection services for the mouth, cervix uteri, and breast cancers. The Varanasi cancer registry is the foundation for cancer control and will play an important role in the evaluation of the interventions. Purpose: To assess the safety and efficacy of bent ab interno needle goniectomy (BANG) in moderate to severe primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) eyes undergoing phacoemulsification (phaco). Design: Single-arm, prospective, interventional study. Methods: POAG patients with medically uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP), >15 mmHg for moderate and >12 mmHg for severe POAG, with visually significant cataract were recruited. All patients underwent BANG using a 26-gauge needle to excise 30° of the trabecular meshwork, along with phaco. Primary outcome was IOP. Secondary outcomes were success rate, percentage reduction in IOP/antiglaucoma medications (AGMs), and intraoperative complications. Success at 12 months was defined as: criterion A: IOP 1. Results: Thirty-two eyes of 32 patients underwent BANG + phaco. Mean age of the participants was 62.7 ± 8.4 years and there were 25 males and seven females. At 12 months, a significant decrease was noted in both IOP (from 17.6 ± 3.6 to 12 ± 1.6 mmHg, 31.8%; P < 0.001) and AGMs (from 3.7 ± 0.9 to 2.8 ± 0.8, 24.3%; P < 0.001). Twenty percent or more reduction in IOP was achieved in 62.5% (20/32) of eyes. Overall success (meeting either of the criteria A or B) at 12 months was achieved in 87.5% eyes. Mild postoperative hyphema was noted in 10 (31.2%) eyes, and two eyes (6.2%) required additional filtration surgery at 7 months. Conclusion: A 30-degree BANG with phaco in patients of POAG appears to be a safe, effective and affordable MIGS for developing countries.

Abstract Background Cancer incidence and mortality vary across the globe, with nearly two-thirds of cancer-related deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries. The rural-urban disparity in socio-demographic, behavioural, and lifestyle-related factors, as well as in access to cancer care, is one of the contributing factors. Population-based cancer registries serve as a measure for understanding the burden of cancer. We aimed to evaluate the rural-urban disparity in cancer burden and care of patients registered by an Indian population-based cancer registry. Methods This study collected data from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, between 2017 and 2019. Sex and site-specific age-standardised rates for incidence and mortality per 100,000 population were calculated. Rural-urban disparities in cancer incidence and mortality were estimated through rate differences and standardised rate ratios (with 95% confidence intervals). Univariable and multivariable regressions were applied to determine any significant differences in socio-demographic and cancer-related variables according to place of residence (rural/urban). Crude and adjusted odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results 6721 cancer patients were registered during the study duration. Urban patients were older and had better literacy and socioeconomic levels, while rural patients had higher odds of having unskilled or semi-skilled professions. Diagnostic and clinical confirmation for cancer was significantly higher in urban patients, while verbal autopsy-based confirmation was higher in rural patients. Rural patients were more likely to receive palliative or alternative systems of medicine, and urban patients had higher chances of treatment completion. Significantly higher incidence and mortality were observed for oral cancer among urban men and for cervical cancer among rural women. Despite the higher incidence of breast cancer in urban women, significantly higher mortality was observed in rural women. Conclusions Low- and middle-income countries are facing dual challenges for cancer control and prevention. Their urban populations experience unhealthy lifestyles, while their rural populations lack healthcare accessibility. The distinctness in cancer burden and pattern calls for a re-evaluation of cancer control strategies that are tailor-made with an understanding of urban-rural disparities. Context-specific interventional programmes targeting risk-factor modifications, cancer awareness, early detection, and accessibility to diagnosis and care are essential.

The rationale for using probiotics in dental care, their different applications, and the future prospects of probiotics in dentistry will be discussed.

Objective: This study addressed the problem of objectively detecting leaks in P2 respirators at point of use, an essential component for healthcare workers' protection. To achieve this, we explored the use of infra-red (IR) imaging combined with machine learning algorithms on the thermal gradient across the respirator during inhalation. Results: The study achieved high accuracy in predicting pass or fail outcomes of quantitative fit tests for flat-fold P2 FFRs. The IR imaging methods surpassed the limitations of self fit-checking. Conclusions: The integration of machine learning and IR imaging on the respirator itself demonstrates promise as a more reliable alternative for ensuring the proper fit of P2 respirators. This innovative approach opens new avenues for technology application in occupational hygiene and emphasizes the need for further validation across diverse respirator styles. Significance Statement: Our novel approach leveraging infra-red imaging and machine learning to detect P2 respirator leaks represents a critical advancement in occupational safety and healthcare workers' protection.

This study explores the relation between yoga and prosocial behavior (PSB) of business students and evaluates the impact of yoga on their academic performance in an MBA program. The mediating role of mindfulness is also examined. The study covers a cohort of 255 MBA students. Individual MBA student's yoga practice, mindfulness, PSB, and performance in management case studies was measured before and after a 20-week yoga programme. The study found that yogic practices significantly increase PSB and academic performance. To assess the mediating role of mindfulness, PROCESS macro was used for regression analysis. It was found that mindfulness acts as a mediator between yoga and PSB. As a result of partial mediation, half the effect on PSB comes from higher mindfulness while the remaining half comes directly from the practice of yoga. Mindfulness also acts as a mediator between yoga and academic performance. In case of the grades obtained by the MBA students, 58% of increase comes through mindfulness whereas the remaining 42% comes from yogic practices directly. Increasing PSB among business school students would be a logical step toward promoting future management practices that are more comprehensive, socially responsible, value-based, and ethically-oriented. This study demonstrates how yoga can benefit MBA students who practise it as well as meet social demands.

In this study, the objective is to explore the practicability of incorporating synthetic fibre reinforced polymer (SFRP) stirrups into reinforced concrete beams. This investigation revolves around evaluating their effectiveness from two key perspectives: their structural performance and environmental impact. To accomplish this, four set of specimens were prepared, each integrating SFRP stirrups, and testing them under a rigorous three-point bending load test. The structural performance analysis entails a comprehensive examination on the critical design factors such as: the load-deflection relationship and the contribution these SFRP stirrups to improve the ductility performance, flexural stiffness, deformability factor, flexural toughness and energy absorption capacity. The findings of this study indicate that the SFRP stirrups exhibit commendable shear capacity, meeting the necessary requirements, and simultaneously demonstrate satisfactory ductility. It is determined, that the optimal design for these SFRP stirrups involves utilizing narrow and thin stirrups placed at relatively larger intervals. Furthermore, this research delves into assessing the environmental impact of incorporating SFRP stirrups. This assessment enables us to comprehensively evaluate the environmental implications of the entire life cycle of these stirrups in structural beam. Moreover, the analysis reveals that, SFRP stirrups yields lower environmental impacts compared to their steel counterparts, they still provide valuable insights into the overall sustainability considerations within the context of reinforced concrete structures.

Cold-formed steel (CFS) sections are used to construct medium and low-rise structures designed to carry small-scale loads. CFS sections are manufactured without the application of heat. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend the properties of CFS sections which are exposed to fire or elevated temperatures. To simulate the real- time fire exposure, an ISO Standard fire curve was used to heat the CFS sections. The objective of the study is to assess the residual mechanical strength of exposed sections after the elevated temperature test. The study aims to compile data for forecasting the degeneration of elements and to ascertain whether the structural components can be reused or replaced. The CFS sections were subjected to different temperatures, and after heating, two cooling methods were used to bring down to room temperature. The characteristics of the retrieved specimens, taken from exposed CFS sections were assessed using a tensile coupon test. The residual properties such as ultimate strength, yield strength, and elastic modulus were examined and reported. The influence of heating and cooling is more pronounced from the test results. A reduction in the yield and ultimate strength was noticed, and it was found to decrease as the heating intensity increases for air and water cooling respectively. In the case of yield and ultimate strength, the strength reduction is critical beyond 60 minutes. The elastic modulus was also found to be reducing with a similar trend. Based on the test results, reduction factors are proposed for ultimate strength, yield strength and elastic modulus. Reduction factors obtained for yield strength under 60 minutes of heating for air and water cooling is 0.575 and 0.557 respectively. In 120 minutes, the values are 0.400 and 0.329. Reduction factors obtained for ultimate strength under 60 minutes of heating for air and water cooling is 0.586 and 0.566 respectively. For 120 minutes, the values are 0.331 and 0.313.

Dragon fruit [Hylocereus undatus (Haworth) Britton and Rose] is an exotic super fruit introduced in India. It can be naturally propagated through seeds and stem cuttings. Present study was carried out during 2018 to 2021 at Main Horticultural Research and Extension Centre (MHREC), College of Horticulture, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkote, Karnataka to improve the efficiency of seed germination and seedling growth in dragon fruit using PGRs. The results showed that, there were significant differences among various treatments. Treatment 100 ppm GA3 recorded as the best treatment with respect to the parameters, viz. days taken for germination (10.60 days), germination percentage (87.00%), shoot length (10.27 cm), root length (8.06 cm), number of roots (6.20), seedling length (18.33 cm), seedling fresh weight (3.26 g), seedling dry weight (1.22 g) respectively at 90 days after sowing (DAS) and survival percentage (48%) than other treatments.
