Abstract High‐intensity interval training (HIIT) has shown significant results in addressing adiposity and risk factors associated with obesity. However, there are no studies that investigate the effects of HIIT on contractility and intracellular Ca2+ handling. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of HIIT on cardiomyocyte contractile function and intracellular Ca2+ handling in rats in which obesity was induced by a saturated high‐fat diet (HFD). Male Wistar rats were initially randomized into a standard diet and a HFD group. The experimental protocol spanned 23 weeks, comprising the induction and maintenance of obesity (15 weeks) followed by HIIT treatment (8 weeks). Performance was assessed using the maximum oxygen consumption test (V̇O2max). Evaluation encompassed cardiac, adipose and skeletal muscle histology, as well as contractility and intracellular Ca2+ handling. HIIT resulted in a reduction in visceral area, an increase in V̇O2max, and an augmentation of gastrocnemius fibre diameter in obese subjects. Additionally, HIIT led to a decrease in collagen fraction, an increase in percentage shortening, and a reduction in systolic Ca2+/percentage shortening and systolic Ca2+/maximum shortening rates. HIIT induces physiological cardiac remodelling, enhancing the contractile function of cardiomyocytes and improving myofilament sensitivity to Ca2+ in the context of obesity. This approach not only enhances cardiorespiratory and physical performance but also reduces visceral area and prevents interstitial fibrosis.

Abstract Background/objectives Myocardial infarction (MI) frequently leads to cardiac remodeling and failure with impaired life quality, playing an important role in cardiovascular deaths. Although physical exercise is a well-recognized effective non-pharmacological therapy for cardiovascular diseases, the effects of strength training (ST) on the structural and functional aspects of cardiac remodeling need to be further documented. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of a linear block ST protocol in the rat model of MI. Methods and results After 6 weeks of MI induction or sham surgery, male adult rats performed ST for the following 12 weeks. The ladder-based ST program was organized in three mesocycles of 4 weeks, with one load increment for each block according to the maximal carrying load test. After 12 weeks, the infarcted-trained rats exhibited an increase in performance, associated with reduced cardiac hypertrophy and pulmonary congestion compared with the untrained group. Despite not changing MI size, the ST program partially prevented cardiac dilatation and ventricular dysfunction assessed by echocardiography and hemodynamics, and interstitial fibrosis evaluated by histology. In addition, isolated cardiac muscles from infarcted-trained rats had improved contractility parameters in a steady state, and in response to calcium or stimuli pauses. Conclusions The ST in infarcted rats increased the capacity to carry mass, associated with attenuation of cardiac remodeling and pulmonary congestion with improving cardiac function that could be attributed, at least in part, to the improvement of myocardial contractility.

Objective: To verify whether an infiltrant resin used to inactivate white spot lesions (WSL) on enamel can resist the abrasive challenges promoted by tooth brushing with different dentifrices. Material and Methods: WSL was induced on bovine enamel samples (pH cycling) and then treated with an infiltrant resin (ICON). Afterward, half of the sample was protected. The other half underwent an abrasive challenge using an electric toothbrush with soft bristles., using dentifrices with different abrasiveness (n=10): Group 1: Colgate Maximum Cavity Protection; Group 2: Sensodyne Repair & Protect; Group 3: Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief; Group 4: Colgate 2 in 1 Watermelon Flavor; e Group 5: Colgate Luminous White Advanced. The wear profile after brushing was evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (µm), and the enamel/resin interface was observed in scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Profilometry data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (α=5%). Results: Brushing produced more significant wear on group 5 (3.96±0.26) when compared to groups 1 (3.45±0.21), 2(3.22±0,4) and 4(3.11±0.34). Data from Group 3 (3.82±0.6) was similar to G5 but higher than G1, G2, and G4. SEM analysis showed that the adhesive interface remained intact in all groups after the abrasive challenge. Conclusion: Dentifrices with a higher relative dentin abrasiveness produced more significant wear of the infiltrant, but the composite/enamel interface was not altered after the abrasive challenges.

Abstract Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) coatings used for moisture protection of surfaces have been used broadly. They have been considered environmentally friendly because their synthesis releases less or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the atmosphere. With the Covid-19 pandemic concerns, cleaning protocols of these surfaces have been applied and scientific knowledge about the effects of these liquids on WPU surfaces is necessary. In this work, diffusion experiments were performed using four liquids, in pure WPU and WPU filled with graphene oxide (GO). Detergent had the most severe effect on polyurethane films, causing severe cracks and weight loss. Diffusion parameters of HCl 5% and HCl 10% were greater in WPU/GO nanocomposites than in pure WPU. Mechanical tests under chemical aging showed that alcohol reduced most the tensile strength and Young modulus. Overall, GO protected the films for all liquid exposures, increasing their tensile strength and Young modulus.

Introdução: Dietas restritivas associadas com o exercício física ainda são ferramentas utilizadas para alcançar a perda de peso, sendo essas restrições calóricas capazes de acarretar uma diminuição na ingestão energética diária em até 40%. Estudos têm sugerido que suplementações mínimas de CHO em dietas restritivas podem ajudar para praticantes de exercício físico em relação a indicadores de performance. Objetivo: Determinar a influência de dietas restritivas em praticantes eutróficos de exercícios físicos e auxiliar futuras pesquisas sob a condição de restrição energética. Materiais e métodos: Essa revisão sistemática foi elaborada por seleção de estudos através de banco de dados de pesquisa eletrônica no período de 2013 a outubro de 2018 (últimos 5 anos) usando as palavras chaves dieta restritiva, ou restrição, ou energia, treinamento de força, ou treino resistido. Foram considerados elegíveis para o estudo (n=9) em homens adultos (≥18 anos) do sexo masculino, com restrição calórica e treino de resistência ou de força. Resultados: A porcentagem de gordura corporal, diminuiu (0,7–10,0%) em todos os grupos de estudo (n=5) e a massa isenta de gordura não apresentou redução significativa (p>0,58) (59,9 vs. 58,9 kg). Os grupos (n=5) desta revisão, não apresentava gordura corporal elevada e que sofreu restrição calórica substancial (tipo de modalidade esportiva), sem novos estímulos de treinamento, consumiram menores quantidades dos principais macronutrientes. Conclusão: A restrição calórica, promoveu a redução na composição corporal, observando que as prescrições nutricionais, são muito importantes para o rendimento físico do atleta.

Background/Objectives: Capsinoids are potential antioxidant agents capable of reducing oxidative damage and the resulting complications triggered by obesity. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of capsinoids on adiposity and biomarkers of cardiac oxidative stress in obese rats induced by a high-fat diet. Methods: Male Wistar rats were exposed to a high-fat diet for 27 consecutive weeks. After the characterization of obesity (week 19), some of the obese animals began to receive capsinoids (10 mg/kg/day) by orogastric gavage. Adiposity and comorbidities were assessed. In the heart, remodeling, injury, and biomarkers of oxidative stress were determined. Results: The treatment did not reduce obesity-induced adiposity but was efficient in reducing cholesterol levels. Capsinoid treatment did not cause a difference in heart and LV mass, despite having reduced troponin I concentrations. Furthermore, capsinoids did not reduce the increase in the advanced oxidation of protein products and carbonylated proteins caused by obesity in cardiac tissue. In addition, obese rats treated with capsinoids presented high levels of malondialdehyde and greater antioxidant enzyme activity compared to untreated obese rats. Conclusions: In conclusion, treatment with capsinoids increases antioxidative enzyme activity and prevents obesity-induced cardiac injury without positively modulating body fat accumulation and cardiac oxidative biomarkers.

Introduction: Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, classified as tegumentary and visceral. The disease treatment is still a serious problem, due to the toxic effects of available drugs, the costly treatment and reports of parasitic resistance, making the search for therapeutic alternatives urgent. This study assessed the in vitro anti-leishmanial potential of the extract, fractions, and isoeleutherin from Eleutherine plicata, as well as the in silico interactions of isoeleutherin and its analogs with Trypanothione Reductase (TR), in addition to predicting pharmacokinetic parameters.Methods: From the ethanolic extract of E. plicata (EEEp) the dichloromethane fraction (FDEp) was obtained, and isoeleutherin isolated. All samples were tested against promastigotes, and parasite viability was evaluated. Isoeleutherin analogues were selected based on similarity in databases (ZINK and eMolecules) to verify the impact on structural change.Results and Discussion: The extract and its fractions were not active against the promastigote form (IC50 > 200 μg/mL), while isoeleutherin was active (IC50 = 25 μg/mL). All analogues have high intestinal absorption (HIA), cell permeability was moderate in Caco2 and low to moderate in MDCK. Structural changes interfered with plasma protein binding and blood-brain barrier permeability. Regarding metabolism, all molecules appear to be CYP3A4 metabolized and inhibited 2–3 CYPs. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics assessed the interactions between the most stable configurations of isoeleutherin, analogue compound 17, and quinacrine (control drug). Molecular dynamics simulations demonstrated stability and favorable interactions with TR. In summary, fractionation contributed to antileishmanial activity and isoleutherin seems to be promising. Structural alterations did not contribute to improve pharmacokinetic aspects and analogue 17 proved to be more promising than isoeleutherin, presenting better stabilization in TR.

Abstract We investigated Aspidosperma discolor fruiting in three subpopulations in the inland Atlantic Forest of Northeastern Brazil, to better understand how local and global factors (such as the El Niño Southern Oscillation - ENSO) drive fruiting, and how functional traits are related to its dispersal potential and spatial distribution. Observations of mature fruits with dispersing seeds were carried out between 1993 and 2012. Dispersal potential was evaluated using seeds released at two different heights. Spatial distribution was analyzed using the Standardized Morisita dispersal index. A. discolor displayed seasonal fruiting during the dry season in all subpopulations, with variations in their average dates but without significant interannual variations in the proportions of fruiting individuals. The undulate seeds had average dispersal distances between 57.36 and 79.54 m. We found a random distribution pattern of the trees. The seasonal dry/rainy regime influenced fruiting and dispersal patterns, and seeds were released during the dry season (even in ENSO years). So, we demonstrate the importance of wind dispersal as a driving factor of fruiting, associated with an abiotic filter (low humidity) during the dry season. Additionally, the aerodynamic nature of the undulate diaspore and its dispersal potential influenced the random pattern of spatial distribution of A. discolor.

RESUMO Desde o seu surgimento na década de 1990, as hashtags têm sido usadas com diferentes funções discursivas na internet e se tornado uma marca importante nesse ambiente. Neste trabalho, discutimos como elas, funcionando como um link, podem estabelecer relações intertextuais tanto em ambientes digitais quanto não digitais. Defendemos, à luz de Carvalho (2018), a hashtag como um diálogo marcado entre textos, ou seja, uma ocorrência intertextual por meio da qual um texto alude a um conjunto de textos, uma vez que, ao evocá-la, o usuário estabelece uma relação tangível com um conjunto inespecífico de textos. Para isso, analisamos três hashtags, sendo duas em ambiente digital, o Twitter, e uma em espaço não digital, as ruas da cidade de Fortaleza. À luz dos estudos da Linguística de Texto (Cavalcante et al, 2019), buscamos mostrar que, mesmo nascidas e pensadas no âmbito digital, as hashtags mantêm sua vitalidade em espaços não digitais.

Objetivo: compreender as Representações Sociais do planejamento e do desejo de exercer a maternidade em gestantes usuárias de drogas que vivencia/vivenciou a gravidez na adolescência. Método: estudo qualitativo, descritivo, fundamentado na Teoria das Representações Sociais. Foram entrevistadas 10 adolescentes que vivenciaram a gestação e o uso de drogas. A análise dos dados foi realizada a partir da Análise Textual Discursiva. Resultados: os resultados apontaram falta de conhecimento sobre aspectos da vida sexual e uso de anticoncepcionais. A droga ocupou o espaço vazio de solidão e medo, sendo uma forma encontrada pelas adolescentes de lidar com os problemas da vida. Apesar de muitas não terem planejado a gestação, esse processo motivou a diminuição do uso da substância. Conclusão: o estudo revelou a necessidade de diálogo sobre o processo gestacional na adolescência e uso de drogas, bem como, a importância de pesquisas e ações governamentais que abordem este problema de saúde pública.

O umbuzeiro é uma fruteira da Caatinga que se encontra distribuída de maneira dispersa em todo o semiárido brasileiro. O umbu gigante, caracterizado por frutos cujo peso médio é superior a 70 gramas, vem ganhando espaço e chamando atenção de vários agricultores por suas potencialidades de comercialização. O cultivo dessa espécie é de grande potencial para o desenvolvimento sustentável da agricultura familiar em zonas semiáridas pela garantia da colheita, facilidades no plantio e possibilidades de condução de lavouras sob estresse hídrico, altas temperaturas e menor aporte de insumos. No momento atual, é realizadas atividades de capacitação para o manejo das mudas, enxertia nos viveiros e implantação das mudas no campo e assistência técnica para condução dos pomares em início de produção. As visitas vêm sendo realizadas presencialmente, nas quais são realizadas demonstrações de métodos na execução de podas e profilaxia com pasta bordalesa, bacias de captação in situ, adubação, cobertura morta e outros aspectos técnicos relacionados com o sistema de produção adaptado às condições locais. O público beneficiário é composto por agricultores familiares selecionados e reunidos por associações em 13 municípios, criando demanda por uma adequada organização, visando posicionar esses frutos de tamanhos diferenciados no mercado. Os grupos de interação da equipe técnica e agricultores de cada comunidade facilita a organização tanto na produção, quanto no momento da comercialização dos frutos gerando uma cadeia de comercialização.

Resumo Estudos sobre a estatalidade ou contraestatalidade na América do Sul indígena são ainda incipientes. Apesar de o tema ter conhecido uma recente atenção maior desde que a tese de A Sociedade Contra o Estado, de Pierre Clastres, foi publicada em 1974, pouco tem sido feito no sentido de suprir uma lacuna crucial: aquela que conecta as sociedades andinas às sociedades das terras baixas. O presente artigo busca fornecer sinteticamente, e tendo como pano de fundo a etnografia de um povo aruaque (Enawene Nawe), certos contornos teórico-filosóficos no sentido de preencher essa lacuna. A partir de uma recensão interessada de preceitos importantes da filosofia de Gilles Deleuze e Félix Guattari, por um lado, e um engajamento com estudos de música indígena, por outro, o artigo passa por questões ecologicamente imprescindíveis, como uma chamada ao cotejamento sistemático de estudos de Arqueologia nas sínteses etnológicas, mas também uma apreciação geral do regime de “pequenos intervalos” que vigora nas musicalidades do continente.

Abstract The study examines the influence of three types of hypercaloric diets on metabolic parameters, inflammatory markers, and oxidative stress in experimental model. Male Wistar rats (n = 40) were randomized in control (C), high‐sucrose (HS), high‐fat (HF), and high‐fat with sucrose (HFHS) for 20 weeks. Nutritional, metabolic, hormonal, and biochemical profiles, as well as histological analysis of adipose and hepatic tissues were performed. Inflammation and oxidative stress were determined. HF model caused obesity and comorbidities as glucose intolerance and arterial hypertension. In relation to hormonal and biochemical parameters, there was no significant difference between the groups. All groups showed increased deposition of fat droplets in the hepatic tissue, even though adipocyte areas were similar. Biomarkers of oxidative stress in serum and adipose tissues were similar among the groups. HF model was effective in triggering associated obesity and comorbidities in male rats, but all hypercaloric diets were unable to promote oxidative stress and inflammation.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the dimensional change of edentulous models made of high density laboratory silicones at different storagetimes. Methods: A metallic master model simulating an edentulous maxilla was used. The model had projections of 1.8 cm located in the regions of canines (A and B) and molars (C and D) allowing the linear measurement of distances AB, BC, CD, DA, AC and BD. A laboratory silicone mold was made for duplication of master model in the following materials (n = 10): G1: Zetalabor 85, G2: Titanium 95, G3: Platinum 95 and G4: Gypsum type III (control). The samples were photographed and measured using a software (Image J) at times T1 (baseline) and T2 (after one week of models fabrication). The data were statistically analyzed using Kruskal- Wallis and Dun non-parametric tests (α = 0.05). Results: The storage time influenced the behavior of the materials evaluated. All groups presented dimensional changes in both times and the group Tit95 presented the best results. Only Zet85 group showed a different behavior related to the region of the model. Conclusions: The high density laboratory silicones showed satisfactory results when compared to the gypsum group. Tit95 was the most stable material and it can be recommended as an edentulous model for total protheses.

Leishmaniasis is a complex disease caused by infection with different Leishmania parasites. The number of medications used for its treatment is still limited and the discovery of new drugs is a valuable approach. In this context, here we describe the in vitro leishmanicidal activity and the in silico interaction between trypanothione reductase (TryR) and (-)-5-demethoxygrandisin B from the leaves of Virola surinamensis (Rol.) Warb. The compound (-)-5-demethoxygrandisin B was isolated from V. surinamensis leaves, a plant found in the Brazilian Amazon, and it was characterized as (7R,8S,7′R,8′S)-3,4,5,3′,4′-pentamethoxy-7,7′-epoxylignan. In vitro antileishmanial activity was examined against Leishmania amazonensis, covering both promastigote and intracellular amastigote phases. Cytotoxicity and nitrite production were gauged using BALB/c peritoneal macrophages. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy was applied to probe ultrastructural alterations, and flow cytometry assessed the shifts in the mitochondrial membrane potential. In silico methods such as molecular docking and molecular dynamics assessed the interaction between the most stable configuration of (-)-5-demethoxygrandisin B and TryR from L. infantum (PDB ID 2JK6). As a result, the (-)-5-demethoxygrandisin B was active against promastigote (IC50 7.0 µM) and intracellular amastigote (IC50 26.04 µM) forms of L. amazonensis, with acceptable selectivity indexes. (-)-5-demethoxygrandisin B caused ultrastructural changes in promastigotes, including mitochondrial swelling, altered kDNA patterns, vacuoles, vesicular structures, autophagosomes, and enlarged flagellar pockets. It reduced the mitochondria membrane potential and formed bonds with important residues in the TryR enzyme. The molecular dynamics simulations showed stability and favorable interaction with TryR. The compound targets L. amazonensis mitochondria via TryR enzyme inhibition.

Aerobic exercise training (AET) has been used to manage heart disease. AET may totally or partially restore the activity and/or expression of proteins that regulate calcium (Ca2+) handling, optimize intracellular Ca2+ flow, and attenuate cardiac functional impairment in failing hearts. However, the literature presents conflicting data regarding the effects of AET on Ca2+ transit and cardiac function in rats with heart failure resulting from aortic stenosis (AoS). This study aimed to evaluate the impact of AET on Ca2+ handling and cardiac function in rats with heart failure due to AoS. Wistar rats were distributed into two groups: control (Sham; n = 61) and aortic stenosis (AoS; n = 44). After 18 weeks, the groups were redistributed into: non-exposed to exercise training (Sham, n = 28 and AoS, n = 22) and trained (Sham-ET, n = 33 and AoS-ET, n = 22) for 10 weeks. Treadmill exercise training was performed with a velocity equivalent to the lactate threshold. The cardiac function was analyzed by echocardiogram, isolated papillary muscles, and isolated cardiomyocytes. During assays of isolated papillary muscles and isolated cardiomyocytes, the Ca2+ concentrations were evaluated. The expression of regulatory proteins for diastolic Ca2+ was assessed via Western Blot. AET attenuated the diastolic dysfunction and improved the systolic function. AoS-ET animals presented an enhanced response to post-rest contraction and SERCA2a and L-type Ca2+ channel blockage compared to the AoS. Furthermore, AET was able to improve aspects of the mechanical function and the responsiveness of the myofilaments to the Ca2+ of the AoS-ET animals. AoS animals presented an alteration in the protein expression of SERCA2a and NCX, and AET restored SERCA2a and NCX levels near normal values. Therefore, AET increased SERCA2a activity and myofilament responsiveness to Ca2+ and improved the cellular Ca2+ influx mechanism, attenuating cardiac dysfunction at cellular, tissue, and chamber levels in animals with AoS and heart failure.

Uma doença grave como o câncer, não afeta apenas a pacientes, mas muda a vida de todas as pessoas a sua volta. Geralmente, familiares assumem o papel de cuidadores/as, muitas vezes experimentam importantes mudanças em sua rotina, que repercutem na qualidade de vida e saúde mental. O objetivo desse estudo foi o de compreender a vivência de cuidadores/as de pessoas enfermas de câncer. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura. Evidenciou-se a predominância de mulheres neste papel, o fato de que a escolha do cuidador/a nem sempre resulta de uma negociação entre familiares, que o cuidado na maioria das vezes é centralizado em uma única pessoa, assim como que a sobrecarga predispõe a um risco aumentado para quadros relacionados ao sofrimento mental. O uso de recursos espirituais/religiosos, assim como o apoio recebido por equipes de saúde foram as estratégias mais apontadas para o enfrentamento dessa vivência por cuidadores/as.

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir os dados de um estado do conhecimento acerca da formação de professores de língua inglesa para crianças (LIC). O estudo foi desenvolvido por meio da consulta ao tema em 66 revistas brasileiras on-line, no estrato A do Qualis Periódicos (2013-2016), no período de 2010 a 2020. Foram encontrados apenas três estudos, cujos focos envolvem formação inicial, formação continuada e formação crítica de professores de LIC. As autoras desses trabalhos enfatizam a necessidade de formação específica nos cursos de Letras e também salientam a importância da formação continuada, que é compreendida como integrante do processo de desenvolvimento profissional e privilegia momentos de reflexão e partilha de experiência. As pesquisadoras defendem, ainda, a formação crítica e reflexiva dos docentes, para que possam fazer escolhas conscientes para os contextos nos quais atuam. Considerando que as discussões apresentadas nesses trabalhos publicados há dez anos são ainda atuais, ressaltamos a urgência de regulamentação da oferta do ensino de línguas estrangeiras na Educação Infantil e anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental e a relevância de estudos na área de formação de professores de LIC, a fim de contribuir com a formação crítica e planejada desses profissionais.

The aerobic physical fitness levels of soccer referees is of great interest, because its can impact on the quality of the referees' performance during matches. This study evaluated the physiological response from aerobic physical fitness variables [maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), anaerobic threshold (AT) and respiratory compensation point (RCP)] obtained from the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) in soccer referees and compare it to those of healthy controls and distance runners. A cross-sectional study was performed with 57 male adults that composed the following groups: control group (CG); recreational runners (RuG); and soccer referees (ReG). Anthropometric, resting and exertion electrocardiograms and CPET evaluations were determined. Brazilian elite soccer referees have a higher speed and VO2max associated with AT, RCP and maximal exercise (CG=39.8±4.7 versus RuG=52.4±7.1; and ReG=45.8±5.5 ml/kg/min), than CG, but lower than the recreational runners. Physiological responses associated with the CPET of Brazilian elite soccer referees are higher than those of healthy controls, but lower than those of recreational runners. From our results and other findings in the literature, we can assume, that the soccer referees evaluated are able to withstand the physiological demands imposed by the match.

There are evidence that obese-resistant animals are more physically active, due to a higher rate of lipid oxidation. Efficiency in such pathways can favor greater spontaneous physical activity and, consequently, less body fat deposition. The aim of study was characterizing the nutritional profile and spontaneous physical activity in the condition of Resistance to Obesity (OR). Wistar rats were randomized into standard diet (SD; n = 50) and high-fat diet (HFD; n = 50) groups, after obesity induction, were redistributed into Control (C), False-control (FC), Propensity to obesity (OP) and OR, and then spontaneous physical activity was evaluated. Analyzed parameters: body mass (BM), epididymal (EF), retroperitoneal (RF), visceral (VF) and respective summations (∑), adiposity index (AI), nutritional, morphological, biochemical and metabolic parameters and protein quantification. The comparison of the groups was performed by ANOVA one or two factors, with 5% significance adopted. OP and FC presented high final MC values compared to C and OR. OR had lower EF, RF, VF, ∑ and IA compared to OP. OR had similar values to C and higher HDL than FC and OP. In GTT, OR and C presented similar values and both were lower than OP in the 30 minutes. OP promoted higher values than C for glycemic AUC. OR had higher PPARγ content than C and OP, as well as levels similar to C for leptin and insulin. Spontaneous physical activity did not differ between groups. The results were not enough to show that OR animals have greater lipid oxidative capacity, as well as greater spontaneous physical activity.

To provide adequancy to users in working posts, ergonomic analyzes were performed in three Brazilian public officesBased on results, recommendations for reformulate this environments, adjust and resize the workstations were obtainned. The mainly characteristics of each ergonomic methodology used to design for built environments were highlighted.

Abstract Capitinga is poorly studied vegetation growing on small, scattered islands of fine, white sand surrounded by the latosol forests on the eastern flank of the Chapada Diamantina Mountains in northeastern Brazil. Our study characterized capitinga vegetation, its environmental features, and compared its flora with the vegetation mosaic within the Espinhaço and Chapada Diamantina ranges. Floristic data was collected from 1999-2006, and phytosociological surveys were undertaken in 2004-2005 and 2016-2017 within fifteen 50 x 2 m plots (100 m2 each, 1500 m2 in total). Multivariate grouping and ordination analysis were used to examine the floristic affinities of capitinga vegetation. Sixty different species from 36 families were recorded overall, while a total of 4945 individuals distributed among 25 families and 33 species were recorded in the plots. The richest families were Fabaceae (7) and Apocynaceae (5), while the most abundant families were Arecaceae (61.5% of all individuals) and Velloziaceae (18.4%), represented by Syagrus harleyi and Vellozia dasypus respectively. Capitinga represents a distinct habitat conditioned by edaphic features, and its flora is unlike other vegetations in the Espinhaço or Chapada Diamantina ranges, with several locally endemic species.

Abstract We present a case study focusing on the influence of inflorescence position on the relationships between foliar and reproductive phases, focusing on three Leguminoseae tree species in the Chapada Diamantina, Brazil. Both Senna multijuga and Copaifera langsdorffii produce terminal panicles and showed vegetative and reproductive phenophases that were correlated but segregated in time, with the marked concentration of reproductive data. The presence of axillary inflorescences on Inga cayennensis enables the simultaneous production of both flowers and leaves, without the segregation or the correlation of those phases, with a uniform distribution of reproductive data. This study encourages further investigations regarding the effects of inflorescence position on plant phenology.

Abstract We evaluated the diversity of Myrtaceae in Chapada Diamantina National Park (CDNP) and neighboring municipalities (NM), identifying the areas with the highest richness and those with the lowest sampling efforts, collecting specimens in situ, and analyzing herbarium collections. The geographic data and maps include collection efforts (CE), species richness (SR), and estimated richness (J1). Ninety-seven species and nine genera were recorded for NM, with 82 species and nine genera occurring in CDNP. The CE and SR were similar in NM and CDNP, and the quadrants with the highest values were in the municipalities of Lençóis and Palmeiras. The J1 was also similar in NM and CDNP. Fifteen species found in NM do not occur in CDNP, and some are considered endangered or are restricted to non-protected areas, especially caatinga areas. Some species showed distributions limited to only one or two vegetation types, although many areas have been only superficially surveyed. Endemic species are subject to anthropic pressure, and some are currently considered endangered or vulnerable. The expansion of the limits of the CDNP to encompass areas of caatinga vegetation will improve the conservation status of the family.

Abstract Eschweilera tetrapetala is a tree endemic to Submontane Seasonal Forests in inland Atlantic forest areas of the Chapada Diamantina Mountains, Northeastern Brazil. The effects of climate change on the spatial distribution pattern of that species were investigated to identify priority areas for its conservation. Distribution patterns and population densities were obtained by sampling individuals in ten 200 x 10 m transects, and in thirty additional 10 x 10 m border and interior forest plots. The occurrence data were subjected to Ecological Niche Modelling using Bioclim, Maxent, and Support Vector Machine algorithms. The predicted model for the current distribution of E. tetrapetala, using the Bioclim, Maxent, and Support Vector Machine algorithms, evidenced stable areas of strong environmental suitability in the east of the Chapada Diamantina. The models also show an expansion of areas with environmental suitability during the Mid-Holocene, with retraction in the present and greater reductions predicted in future global warming scenarios. The number of individuals in the plots varied from zero to 14, indicating an aggregated distribution. Morisita’s index indicated a random distribution along a forest edge but aggregated in the forest interior. Eschweilera tetrapetala is sensitive to climatic change and anthropogenic pressure, at both regional and local scales.

As aves destacam-se dentro dos vertebrados por serem um grupo diverso e adaptado a diferentes ambientes, a composição da comunidade de aves de um determinado local é um importante bioindicador ambiental, pois ela reflete alterações recentes ou pretéritas de determinada área. Na Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio dos Sinos, as pressões sobre os remanescentes de ecossistemas naturais são intensas em decorrência da urbanização crescente, do estabelecimento de indústrias e da ampliação das fronteiras agrícolas, esses fatores associados geram a redução e fragmentação de habitats, com impactos irrecuperáveis para a flora e a fauna. Devido à escassez de dados sobre a avifauna do município de Taquara, o presente estudo teve como objetivo levantar informações sobre o grupo, listando as espécies de aves locais. Entre agosto de 2016 e junho de 2017 foram realizadas quatro amostragens mensais em duas áreas rurais do município, totalizando 44 campanhas de observação e 132 horas de esforço amostral. As espécies foram identificadas e classificadas conforme sua frequência de ocorrência mensal, em espécies comuns e raras. Foram registradas 133 espécies distribuídas em 47 famílias, o que representa mais de 20% das espécies ocorrentes para o estado. Ao longo do período amostrado, 90 espécies foram classificadas como comuns e 47 consideradas raras para as áreas pesquisadas. Palavras-chave: Aves. Bacia hidrográfica do Rio dos Sinos. Preservação. ABSTRACT Birds stand out within vertebrates because they are a diverse group adapted to different environments. The composition of the bird community of a certain place is an important environmental bioindicator since it reflects recent or previous environmental disturbances of a certain area. In the Sinos River Basin, environmental pressures on the remnants of natural ecosystems are intense as a result of increasing urbanization, the establishment of industries and expansion of agricultural frontiers which generate habitat reduction and fragmentation with irrecoverable damages on flora and fauna. Due to the scarcity of data on the avifauna of the municipality of Taquara, the present study aimed to gather information and list the species of local birds. Between August 2016 and June 2017, four monthly samplings were carried out in two rural areas of the municipality, totaling 44 observation campaigns and 132 hours of sample effort. The species were identified and classified as common and rare according to their frequency of occurrence. There were 133 species distributed in 47 families, representing more than 20% of the species that occurred in the state. During the sampled period, 90 species were classified as common and 47 were considered rare for the areas surveyed. Keywords: Birds. Hydrographic basin of Sinos River. Preservation.

Although numerous studies have analyzed overweight and obesity among schoolchildren from various Brazilian regions, the data relative to the state of Espírito Santo (ES) remains scarce. Considering the information presented, the purpose of present study was to investigate the prevalence of overweight and obesity among elementary school students from Vitória, ES. This was a cross-sectional study including 572 school children between 7 to 14 years old enrolled in municipal elementary schools in Vitória, ES, totalling 310 girls and 262 boys, who were randomly selected by stratified cluster sampling. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was calculated based on the children’s anthropometric profile according to percentage of body fat by measuring skinfold thickness and body mass index (BMI). Based on BMI, the prevalence of overweight was high in both genders, with 20.6% among the boys and 20.9% among the girls. The prevalence of obesity did not differ between boys and girls, with 6.5% and 7.7%, respectively. The results from skinfold assessment thickness demonstrate that 57.3% of the sample exhibited desirable adiposity levels, 13% were overweight and 18% were obese. In conclusion, the current study found a high prevalence of overweight and obesity, reaffirming that excess weight affects a significant proportion of the children who attend municipal schools in Vitória, ES.

Abstract We compared the functional diversity of community at edge and interior areas of an Atlantic forest fragment to test the hypothesis that higher functional diversity exists along edges - in consonance with their higher abundance and floristic diversity as compared to the interior of the forest. By considering a set of vegetative, reproductive and phenological traits and ecosystem service aspects of edge and interior environments, we defined plant functional groups using Cluster Analysis, followed by a silhouette width analysis, together with functional diversity indices of richness, divergence, evenness and dispersion. The main functional groups formed were similar between the edges and interior. Functional richness was the only index that demonstrated differences between edge and the interior. Alterations were perceived in relation to species richness and the Shannon index. Edge effects were not significant in the formation of functional groups. In contrast to our original hypothesis, similar groups were formed both along the edge in the interior - indicating that species played similar ecological roles in both environments, with similar responses to different environmental factors - so that forest edges were colonized by a series of different species that maintained diversity patterns similar to those found in the forest interior.

Several diseases are associated with excess of adipose tissue, and obesity is considered an independent risk factor for the development of cardiac remodeling and heart failure. Dietary aspects have been studied to elucidate the mechanisms involved in these processes. Thus, the purpose was the development and characterization of an obesity experimental model from hypercaloric diets, which resulted in cardiac remodeling and predisposition to heart failure. Thirty- day-old male Wistar rats (n = 52) were randomized into four groups: control (C), high sucrose (HS), high-fat (HF) and high-fat and sucrose (HFHS) for 20 weeks. General characteristics, comorbidities, weights of the heart, left (LV) and right ventricles, atrium, and relationships with the tibia length were evaluated. The LV myocyte cross sectional area and fraction of interstitial collagen were assayed. Cardiac function was determined by hemodynamic analysis and the contractility by cardiomyocyte contractile function. Heart failure was analyzed by pulmonary congestion, right ventricular hypertrophy, and hemodynamic parameters. HF and HFHS models led to obesity by increase in adiposity index (C = 8.3 ± 0.2% vs. HF = 10.9 ± 0.5%, HFHS = 10.2 ± 0.3%). There was no change in the morphological parameters and heart failure signals. HF and HFHS caused a reduction in times to 50% relaxation without cardiomyocyte contractile damage. The HS model presented cardiomyocyte contractile dysfunction visualized by lower shortening (C: 8.34 ± 0.32% vs. HS: 6.91 ± 0.28), as well as the Ca2+ transient amplitude was also increased when compared to HFHS. In conclusion, the experimental diets based on high amounts of sugar, lard or a combination of both did not promote cardiac remodeling with predisposition to heart failure under conditions of obesity or excess sucrose. Nevertheless, excess sucrose causes cardiomyocyte contractility dysfunction associated with alterations in the myocyte sensitivity to intracellular Ca2+.

The aim was to investigate the effect of strength training on skeletal muscle morphology and metabolic adaptations in obese rats fed with unsaturated high-fat diet (HFD). The hypothesis was that strength training induces positive metabolic adaptations in obese rats despite impaired muscle hypertrophy. Male Wistar rats (n = 58) were randomized into two groups and fed a standard diet or a high-fat diet (HFD) containing 49.2% of fat. After induction and maintenance to obesity, the rats were divided into four groups: animals distributed in sedentary control (CS), control submitted to strength training protocol (CT), obese sedentary (ObS), and obese submitted to strength training protocol (ObT). The exercise protocol consisted of 10 weeks of training on a vertical ladder (three times a week) with a load attached to the animal’s tail. At the end of 10 weeks, strength training promoted positive changes in the body composition and metabolic parameters in obese animals. Specifically, ObT animals presented a reduction of 22.6% and 14.3% in body fat and adiposity index when compared to ObS, respectively. Furthermore, these rats had lower levels of triglycerides (ObT = 23.1 ± 9.5 vs. ObS = 30.4 ± 6.9 mg/dL) and leptin (ObT = 13.2 ± 7.2 vs. ObS = 20.5 ± 4.3 ng/mL). Training (ObT and CT) induced a greater strength gain when compared with the respective control groups. In addition, the weight of the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) muscle was higher in the ObT group than in the CT group, representing an increase of 26.1%. However, training did not promote hypertrophy as observed by a similar cross-sectional area of the FHL and plantar muscles. Based on these results, high-intensity strength training promoted an improvement of body composition and metabolic profile in obese rats that were fed a high-fat diet without skeletal muscle adaptations, becoming a relevant complementary strategy for the treatment of obesity.

The main purpose was to investigate whether the perception of effort during the two first repetitions of strength exercises could be an adequate strategy for estimating the strength-training zone. The sample comprised 11 women (18 to 35 years-old). In the first week, the volunteers performed a 1-RM test in seven exercises on strength machines, and the load was calculated to reach 50%, 70% and 90% of the 1-RM. Over the next three weeks, the volunteers were required to perform randomly the exercises at these three intensities. After the two first repetitions, the volunteers were questioned about how many repetitions they believed they could achieve until failure (self-estimated). Additionally, volunteers were asked to indicate their exertion according Borg scale. After volunteers performed every exercise until concentric failure to complete the repetition maximum test (RMs test). The data were analyzed using linear regression, Pearson correlation and paired t-test. The results showed that the self-estimated number of repetitions underestimated 44% and 30% of the mean values of repetition maximum obtained directly at intensities of 50% and 70% (p < 0.05), respectively. Although repetition maximum were correlated with Borg scale (r = -0.23 to -0.41; p < 0.05) and self-estimated number of repetitions (r = 0.25 to 0.41; p < 0.05), the standard errors of estimate obtained by linear regression were very high (40% to 49%), which prevented any estimation equations. In conclusion, the perception of effort during the two first repetitions is not a satisfactory strategy for estimating the strength-training zone.

O artigo pretende apresentar uma reflexão sobre a precarização do trabalho no século XXI, a partir de uma perspectiva histórica e estudo bibliográfico. Analisamos como a sociedade vem adaptandose com as transformações advindas do Século XXI, determinadas pelas condições econômicas, sociais e tecnológicas inseridas no mundo do trabalho, bem como suas influências e possíveis contribuições para a melhoria na relação homem e trabalho, e quais as principais consequências favorecem a precarização do trabalho e sofrimento na ambiência do mesmo. O estudo apoia-se na fundamentação teórica dos autores MARX (2006) MARCUSE (1964) e DEJOURS (1992). Neste, afigura-se como central questão, apontar caminhos e possibilidades para resignificação da relação homem trabalho com autorrealização.

ABSTRACT Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a genetic disorder that is typically inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. It is clinically characterized by recurrent respiratory infections. However, its repercussions for patient quality of life should not be overlooked. Studies have shown that PCD has a significant impact on the lives of patients, although there are as yet no PCD-specific markers of quality of life. To address that problem, researchers in the United Kingdom developed a quality-of-life questionnaire for patients with PCD. The present communication focuses on the process of translating that questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese, through a partnership between researchers in Brazil and those in the United Kingdom, as well as its subsequent application in patients in Brazil.

Experimental studies show that the unsaturated high-fat diet-induced obesity promotes vascular alterations characterized by improving the endothelial L-arginine/Nitric Oxide (NO) pathway. Leptin seems to be involved in this process, promoting vasodilation via increasing NO bioavailability. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that unsaturated high-fat diet-induced obesity does not generate endothelial dysfunction via increasing the vascular leptin/Akt/eNOS signaling. Thirty-day-old male Wistar rats were randomized into two groups: control (C) and obese (Ob). Group C was fed a standard diet, while group Ob was fed an unsaturated high-fat diet for 27 weeks. Adiposity, hormonal and biochemical parameters, and systolic blood pressure were observed. Concentration response curves were performed for leptin or acetylcholine in the presence or absence of Akt and NOS inhibitor. Our results showed that an unsaturated high-fat diet promoted a greater feed efficiency (FE), elevation of body weight and body fat (BF), and an adiposity index, characterizing a model of obesity. However, comorbidities frequently associated with experimental obesity were not visualized, such as glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia and hypertension. The evaluation of the endothelium-dependent relaxation with acetylcholine showed no differences between the C and Ob rats. After NOS inhibition, the response was completely abolished in the Ob group, but not in the C group. Furthermore, Akt inhibition completely blunted vascular relaxation in the C group, but not in the Ob group, which was more sensitive to leptin-induced vascular relaxation. L-NAME incubation abolished the relaxation in both groups at the same level. Although Akt inhibitor pre-incubation reduced the leptin response, group C was more sensitive to its effect. In conclusion, the high-unsaturated fat diet-induced obesity improved the vascular reactivity to leptin and does not generate endothelial dysfunction, possibly by the increase in the vascular sensitivity to leptin and increasing NO bioavailability. Moreover, our results suggest that the increase in NO production occurs through the increase in NOS activation by leptin and is partially mediated by the Akt pathway.

RESUMO Apresenta o desenvolvimento da primeira fase da pesquisa iniciada em 2016, que trata da aplicação de metodologia de indexação às Obras Completas de Rui de Barbosa. Aborda assim o estabelecimento do vocabulário sistematizado para representação dos acervos bibliográficos, da Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa, empreendimento realizado a partir da constatação da carência de fundamentos teóricos que promovessem a melhoria do processo de elaboração das informações e da recuperação da informação, o que resultou na adoção de princípios metodológicos da teoria do conceito, de Ingetraut Dahlberg (1978). Tem como objetivo aprofundar a fundamentação teórica do processo de representação das informações oriundas dos acervos bibliográficos da instituição. A metodologia propõe identificar conceitos, a partir do estudo da metodologia de indexação que se fundamenta na teoria do conceito. Conclui que a indexação é uma prática que precisa ser sistematicamente discutida, revista e aprimorada. Palavras-chave: Indexação Temática; Acervo Bibliográfico; Teoria do Conceito.

The tobacco has the potential to cause changes in the hormonal system, appetite and therefore food intake. In turn, physical training increases metabolic demand, exerts a substantial effect on the energy balance. This study aimed to verify the influence of smoking and physical training in appetite and the development of body weight in rats. Rats Wistar were used (n=40, between 200g and 250g) rats were distributed into four groups: control (C); Trained control (TC); Exposure (E); Trained / exposure (TE). Exposure to cigarette smoke (ECS) and training (swimming) lasted 15 weeks. The animals were weighed weekly and food intake weighed daily. Analyzed with two-way ANOVA and was adopted a significance level of 5%. The ECS intake in rats was lower compared to the non ECS (p=0.001). The trained rats had lower values in intake compared to untrained (p=0.044). The statistical interaction between factors (smoking and swimming) interfered with the intake (p=0.013). The growth curves showed lower body weight in the groups ECS. Was no statistical interaction between smoking and factors swimming to body weight (p=0.046). Statistical difference with higher values for the weights of the heart, lung, and tibia in group no ECS, compared to rats ECS. We conclude that ECS inhibits appetite and promotes loss in body development. And, physical training has chronically negative influence on energy balance, with reduction in weight gain. However, it does not interfere with body development, and beneficial unlike exposure to cigarette smoke.

This paper focuses on the work of the sign Language interpreter in the condition of a second speaker within the speech production. These professionals, when interpreting, they look for re-create [actualize] the emanated concepts from the source language into the target language, creating, then, a second enunciative instance. The theoretical basis is situated in the perspective of the theory of enunciation (BENVENISTE, 1989; FLORES, 2008, 2009a, 2009b, 2010) and in the study of the modals in spoken languages and LIBRAS. We aim to find what are the marks left in the discourse by the second speaker of the text, in this case, the interpreter, regarding specifically to the use of modals, and additionally, to analyze their choices for using one or other type of modal (in the target text), which might have been made explicit or implicit in the first enunciative context (source text). In order to reach these goals, sampling was composed by a transcription of a video-recorded speech of a deaf person with the length of 40’ (forty minutes) that was being simultaneously interpreted into spoken Portuguese. Six excerpts from the total speech, in which modal’s occurrences were attested within the source or target language, were submitted to the analysis. The main findings are: 1. the tendency of the deontic modality being almost always interpreted in the same way of the source language; 2. the interpreting choices are always guided by enunciative clues that are left in the speech of the first speaker, to which the interpreters must to demonstrate expertise in recognizing these language-specific aspects; 3. in the absence of explicit modals in the speech, the interpreters appears to be sensible to the modal’s notions spread by the whole text’s surface; 4. the temporal omission of epistemic modals with a high degree of certainty is understood as an interpretative strategy and not as an infidelity with the original information; 5. the term “tempo de checagem” is being proposed to cover the lack of a specific term that refers to the non-chronological time in which the interpreter, after receiving the source language information, make the interpretation available to the listeners.

Abstract Background: Caloric restriction is known to impair the cardiac function and morphology in hypertrophied hearts of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR); however, the influence of fasting/refeeding (RF) is unknown. Objective: To investigate the fasting/refeeding approach on myocardial remodeling and function. In addition, the current study was designed to bring information regarding the mechanisms underlying the participation of Ca2+ handling and b-adrenergic system. Methods: Sixty-day-old male SHR rats were submitted to food ad libitum (C), 50% food restriction (R50) or RF cycles for 90 days. Cardiac remodeling was assessed by ultrastructure analysis and isolated papillary muscle function. The level of significance considered was 5% (a = 0.05). Results: The RF rats presented lower cardiac atrophy than R50 in relation to C rats. The C rats increased weight gain, R50 maintained their initial body weight and RF rats increased and decreased weight during RF. The RF did not cause functional impairment because the isotonic and isometric parameters showed similar behavior to those of C. The isotonic and isometric cardiac parameters were significantly elevated in RF rats compared to R50 rats. In addition, the R50 rats had cardiac damage in relation to C for isotonic and isometric variables. While the R50 rats showed focal changes in many muscle fibers, the RF rats displayed mild alterations, such as loss or disorganization of myofibrils. Conclusion: Fasting/refeeding promotes cardiac beneficial effects and attenuates myocardial injury caused by caloric restriction in SHR rats, contributing to reduce the cardiovascular risk profile and morphological injuries. Furthermore, RF promotes mild improvement in Ca2+ handling and b-adrenergic system.

Este texto centra-se nas questões do trabalho do Intérprete de Língua de Sinais na condição de segundo enunciador da produção discursiva. Esses profissionais, no momento da interpretação, buscam recriar [atualizar] os conceitos emanados da língua fonte para a língua alvo, instaurando, assim, uma segunda instância enunciativa. O quadro teórico mobilizado situa-se na perspectiva da Linguística Enunciativa (BENVENISTE, 1989; FLORES, 2008, 2009a, 2009b, 2010) e no estudo dos modais em línguas orais e na LIBRAS. Tem-se, por objetivos, buscar as marcas deixadas pelo segundo sujeito enunciador do texto, neste caso, o intérprete, quanto ao uso de modais especificamente e analisar as escolhas desse segundo sujeito enunciador por utilizar um ou outro tipo de modal (no texto alvo), que esteja explícito ou implícito na primeira situação de enunciação (no texto fonte). Para análise, a fala de uma pessoa surda, com tempo total de 40' (quarenta minutos), que estava sendo interpretada para o Português oral, foi transcrita. Após a transcrição, 6 (seis) excertos da fala total, com ocorrências de modais na língua fonte ou alvo, foram analisados. Em função das análises empreendidas, pontua-se: 1. a tendência de que a modalidade deôntica seja quase sempre interpretada como na língua fonte; 2. as escolhas interpretativas são sempre guiadas por pistas enunciativas deixadas na fala do primeiro enunciador, para as quais o intérprete deve revelar domínio de aspectos pertinentes tanto à língua fonte quanto à língua alvo; 3. na ausência de marcas modais explícitas, os intérpretes são sensíveis às noções modais extravasadas por toda a superfície textual; 4. a omissão temporal na interpretação de modais epistêmicos de grande valor de aderência podendo funcionar como uma estratégia interpretativa e não como um falseamento da informação original; 5. a noção de “tempo de checagem”, sendo proposta para recobrir o tempo (não cronológico) no qual o intérprete, após receber a informação da língua fonte, realizasua interpretação.

This study aims to detect the composition, abundance patterns, and successional stage distributions exhibited by arboreal species inside and at the linear edge of a submontane seasonal forest in the Chapada Diamantina (12°28'31'S, 41°23'14'W), Bahia, Brazil. The individual plants with breast height diameters ≥5 cm were sampled in 30 quadrats (10 m × 10 m), 15 in the forest edge and 15 inside the forest. Species were classified according to successional category. Phytosociological and diversity indices were calculated. Shannon indices were compared using Hutcheson's t-test, and the remaining parameters were analyzed by ANOVA. Linear edges exerted a high impact on the floristic composition, diversity, and abundance of species, though little interference was observed in the structure of the community, since phytosociological parameters and the proportions of successional categories did not differ between the edge and inner forest fragment. The impact of linear infrastructure was similar to that of other border types. Additionally, even though the distance between forest fragments was very short, an edge effect was observed, which underlines the importance of linear forest edges to biodiversity conservation.

ABSTRACT We compared the reproductive phenology and floral visitors of Eschweilera tetrapetala growing along the edge and in the interior of a submontane forest in the Chapada Diamantina mountains, Bahia State, Brazil. We sought to determine if there were inter-annual differences in intensity and seasonality associated with environmental conditions, and if there were differences in floral visitors between the two environmental contexts. Phenological observations were performed for three years, and included the occurrence of an El Niño event. We applied circular statistics to detect seasonal trends, performed cross correlations between phenophases and climate, Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests for inter-annual variation, and the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test for edge-interior differences in the species richness of floral visitors. We observed inter-annual variations in the intensity and seasonality of flower production that accompanied variations in rainfall, possibly associated with El Niño events. Floral visitor richness differed between the forest edge and interior, with seven species recorded for the interior and only one for the edge. Reduced fruit set was also observed at the forest edge. This study contributes to our understanding of the influence of El Niño and edge effects on the reproductive phenologies of tropical plants.

Abstract Background: Different types of high-fat and/or high-energy diets have been used to induce obesity in rodents. However, few studies have reported on the effects observed at the initial stage of obesity induced by high-fat feeding on cardiac functional and structural remodelling. Objective: To characterize the initial moment of obesity and investigate both metabolic and cardiac parameters. In addition, the role of Ca2+ handling in short-term exposure to obesity was verified. Methods: Thirty-day-old male Wistar rats were randomized into two groups (n = 19 each): control (C; standard diet) and high-fat diet (HF, unsaturated high-fat diet). The initial moment of obesity was defined by weekly measurement of body weight (BW) complemented by adiposity index (AI). Cardiac remodelling was assessed by morphological, histological, echocardiographic and papillary muscle analysis. Ca2+ handling proteins were determined by Western Blot. Results: The initial moment of obesity occurred at the 3rd week. Compared with C rats, the HF rats had higher final BW (4%), body fat (20%), AI (14.5%), insulin levels (39.7%), leptin (62.4%) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (15.5%) but did not exhibit alterations in systolic blood pressure. Echocardiographic evaluation did not show alterations in cardiac parameters. In the HF group, muscles were observed to increase their +dT/dt (C: 52.6 ± 9.0 g/mm2/s and HF: 68.0 ± 17.0 g/mm2/s; p < 0.05). In addition, there was no changes in the cardiac expression of Ca2+ handling proteins. Conclusion: The initial moment of obesity promotes alterations to hormonal and lipid profiles without cardiac damage or changes in Ca2+ handling.

Background: Obesity is defined by excessive accumulation of body fat relative to lean tissue. Studies during the last few years indicate that cardiac function in obese animals may be preserved, increased or diminished. Objective: Study the energy balance of the myocardium with the hypothesis that the increase in fatty acid oxidation and reduced glucose leads to cardiac dysfunction in obesity. Methods: 30-day-old male Wistar rats were fed standard and hypercaloric diet for 30 weeks. Cardiac function and morphology were assessed. In this paper was viewed the general characteristics and comorbities associated to obesity. The structure cardiac was determined by weights of the heart and left ventricle (LV). Myocardial function was evaluated by studying isolated papillary muscles from the LV, under the baseline condition and after inotropic and lusitropic maneuvers: myocardial stiffness; postrest contraction; increase in extracellular Ca2+ concentration; change in heart rate and inhibitor of glycolytic pathway. Results: Compared with control group, the obese rats had increased body fat and co-morbities associated with obesity. Functional assessment after blocking iodoacetate shows no difference in the linear regression of DT, however, the RT showed a statistically significant difference in behavior between the control and the obese group, most notable being the slope in group C. Conclusion: The energy imbalance on obesity did not cause cardiac dysfunction. On the contrary, the prioritization of fatty acids utilization provides protection to cardiac muscle during the inhibition of glycolysis, suggesting that this pathway is fewer used by obese cardiac muscle.

This article discusses the perspectives of academics on Physical Education within the context of teaching and against the background of working with students with disabilities in Physical Education and Sports in school. The study is descriptive, cross-sectional in nature and seeks to analyze the academics’ opinions regarding Physical Education and Sports in school for students with disabilities. The research, which adopted a quantitative approach, was carried out by way of a survey in which 82 undergraduate students of Physical Education responded to a questionnaire. Distribution of frequencies, factor analysis and thematic analysis were conducted. Participants were of the opinion that the objectives of Physical Education and Sports in school promote healthy behaviour, the playing of sport and socio-affective relationships, as well as they are beneficial to an environment of working with different persons with disabilities. We believe this work may help in the curricula of physical education to better manage and direct the training of academics for students with disabilities.

Background: The activation of the beta-adrenergic system promotes G protein stimulation that, via cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), alters the structure of protein kinase A (PKA) and leads to phospholamban (PLB) phosphorylation. This protein participates in the system that controls intracellular calcium in muscle cells, and it is the primary regulator of sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium pump activity. In obesity, the beta-adrenergic system is activated by the influence of increased leptin, therefore, resulting in higher myocardial phospholamban phosphorylation via cAMP-PKA. Objective: To investigate the involvement of proteins which regulate the degree of PLB phosphorylation due to beta-adrenergic activation in obesity. In the present study, we hypothesized that there is an imbalance between phospholamban phosphorylation and dephosphorylation, with prevalence of protein phosphorylation. Methods: Male Wistar rats were randomly distributed into two groups: control (n = 14), fed with normocaloric diet; and obese (n = 13), fed with a cycle of four unsaturated high-fat diets. Obesity was determined by the adiposity index, and protein expressions of phosphatase 1 (PP-1), PKA, PLB, phosphorylated phospholamban at serine16 (PPLB-Ser16) were assessed by Western blot. Results: Obesity caused glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperleptinemia and did not alter the protein expression of PKA, PP-1, PLB, PPLB-Ser16. Conclusion: Obesity does not promote an imbalance between myocardial PLB phosphorylation and dephosphorylation via beta-adrenergic system.

A esquistossomose mansônica é uma doença parasitária causada pelo helminto Schistosoma mansoni. A sua forma ectópica mais grave e incapacitante é a mielorradiculopatia esquistossomótica (MRE), caracterizada por atingir o sistema nervoso central. Atualmente, o uso da Realidade Virtual para o tratamento das sequelas de doenças neurológicas vem se desenvolvendo gradativamente. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a influência da Realidade Virtual (RV) sobre as funções neuromotoras de uma portadora de MRE. O estudo foi realizado com um indivíduo do sexo feminino, 30 anos de idade, com diagnóstico clínico de MRE e sem experiência prévia com o Nintendo Wii® ou similares. O procedimento de avaliação adotado visou à descrição e análise do comprometimento causado pelas afeções da MRE. A paciente foi avaliada, submetida à fisioterapia utilizando o Nintendo Wii® e a plataforma Wii Balance Board® que consistiu de 20 sessões com duração de 1 hora e frequência de três vezes por semana; após o tratamento a paciente foi reavaliada. Os resultados demonstraram que para a voluntária em estudo, a RV foi uma ferramenta eficaz na reabilitação neuromotora de MRE.

O propósito deste trabalho é refletir acerca da temática interdisciplinaridade, a fim de garantir a compreensão das principais questões envolvidas nesse processo. Para tanto, em um primeiro momento, apresenta diferentes interpretações que buscam explicar a constituição da Ciência da Informação sob uma perspectiva teórico-disciplinar, com o objetivo de melhor compreender a sua natureza constitutiva. Em seguida, a partir de enfoques interpretativos de alguns teóricos da Ciência da Informação, procura evidenciar os elementos que a caracterizam como uma disciplina interdisciplinar, ressaltando suas relações com a Biblioteconomia. Busca, ainda, identificar os elos interdisciplinares entre os dois campos, por meio da análise das interpretações manifestadas pelos principais teóricos da Ciência da Informação. Conclui que a Biblioteconomia e a Ciência da Informação têm uma característica comum: facilitar o acesso à informação - e que os pesquisadores da área podem desenvolver por meio desse elo comum uma prática interdisciplinar.

FUNDAMENTO: A obesidade é um fator de risco para muitas complicações médicas; a pesquisa médica demonstrou que as alterações hemodinâmicas, morfológicas e funcionais estão correlacionadas com a duração e gravidade da obesidade. OBJETIVO: O presente estudo determinou a influência do tempo de exposição à obesidade induzida por dieta com alto teor de gordura no colágenos tipo I e III miocárdico. MÉTODOS: Ratos machos com trinta dias de idade, da raça Wistar, foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em dois grupos: um grupo de controle (C) alimentado com ração padrão e um grupo de ratos obesos (Ob) alternadamente alimentados com uma de quatro dietas palatáveis ricas em gordura. Cada dieta foi mudada diariamente, e os ratos foram mantidos em suas respectivas dietas por 15 (C15 e Ob15) e 30 (C30 e Ob30) semanas consecutivas. A obesidade foi determinada pelo índice de adiposidade. RESULTADOS: O grupo Ob15 foi similar ao grupo C15 em relação à expressão de colágeno miocárdico tipo I; contudo, a expressão no grupo Ob30 foi menor do que no grupo C30. O tempo de exposição à obesidade foi associado com uma redução de colágeno do tipo I no grupo Ob30, quando comparado com o Ob15. A obesidade não afetou a expressão do colágeno tipo III. CONCLUSÃO: Este estudo mostrou que o tempo de exposição à obesidade por 30 semanas induzida por uma dieta rica em gordura insaturada causou uma redução na expressão do colágeno miocárdico tipo I em ratos obesos. No entanto, nenhum efeito foi observado em relação à expressão do colágeno miocárdico tipo III
