Este artigo teve como objetivo geral de analisar atividades lúdicas como instrumentos pedagógicos na Educação Infantil: Experiências e Prática de uma Professora do Município de Maracanã-PA escola Taurina Carrera Botelho, localizada na zona urbana de Maracanã, no Estado do Pará. Fez parte da pesquisa uma professora da Educação Infantil do pré-escolar II. Se a utilização das práticas lúdicas como suporte metodológico do processo ensino-aprendizagem possibilita o desenvolvimento de competências e habilidades das crianças. A pesquisa ocorreu no ano de 2022 e o processo metodológico da investigação perpassou pelas seguintes etapas: Seleção das leituras do referencial teórico, observação direta das práxis da educadora da escola, formulação das perguntas para o roteiro de entrevistas, tabulação dos dados e análise dos resultados da pesquisa de campo que apontaram: a professora da Escola Taurina Carrera Botelho trabalha com o lúdico (jogos, brinquedos, brincadeiras) em seu cotidiano de sala de aula, e o utilizam como instrumento educacional capaz de reforçar e consolidar o processo ensino-aprendizagem. A pesquisa apontou também a colaboração positiva do lúdico na aquisição de aprendizagem importante para a vida em sociedade, visto que os alunos apresentam melhorias em suas habilidades motoras, aumenta sua concentração, equilíbrio emocional e corporal. Para tanto a professora planejam suas aulas ministradas, e assim o instrumento lúdico possa assumir caráter pedagógico. Por fim conclui-se que o lúdico é de fato uma metodologia educacional imprescindível no ambiente escolar, pois favorecem o processo de apropriação e construção de conhecimento das crianças, contribuindo assim para que se cumpra a finalidade da Educação Infantil.

Vegetais com ação cicatrizante e emoliente, indicados no tratamento de disfunções da pele, têm sido pesquisados. Objetivou-se nesta pesquisa a produção de um sistema emulsionado contendo Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville (Fabaceae) e Rosa aff. rubiginosa (Rosaceae) e o estudo de estabilidade acelerada. Emulsões não iônicas foram produzidas realizando-se o estudo de estabilidade físico-químico e microbiológico. Utilizou-se embalagens plásticas e vidro para o armazenamento, com avaliação em diferentes tempos (zero, 15, 30 e 60 dias) e condições de temperatura. A emulsão produzida apresentou-se viscosa, homogênea, opaca, com cor levemente acastanhada, odor amadeirado, levemente untuoso ao tato e pH (4,0-5,0). Os dois lotes avaliados quanto a estabilidade mantiveram-se estáveis sob refrigeração. Nas embalagens plásticas houve alterações quanto ao aspecto (15 dias), tanto em temperatura ambiente, quanto estufa. Já nas embalagens de vidro a alteração do aspecto ocorreu em apenas uma replicata (30 dias). As características organolépticas da formulação apresentaram-se modificadas em estufa para embalagens plásticas (15 dias), e para embalagens de vidro (30 dias). O pH manteve-se entre 4,0-5,0 durante 60 dias. Não foi verificado crescimento de nenhum microrganismo. Concluiu-se que a temperatura foi determinante para a estabilidade e que embalagem de vidro proporcionou maior proteção à formulação.

O tema da condição estrangeira atravessa os 4 textos coligidos na obra Estranhos estrangeiros, de Caio Fernando Abreu. Dentre eles, o conto “Bem longe de Marienbad” será recuperado a partir da construção do personagem-narrador cuja interação com a ausência/presença de outra personagem, K, opera como motor de uma busca amorosa em princípio fracassada que pode ser lida também como uma espécie de extração das próprias raízes, de adoção do exílio como estado voluntariamente permanente. A perspectiva do exílio, assim, se entrelaça à toda narrativa e será tomada a partir de uma sugestiva sinonímia com a dificuldade de leitura dos vestígios da presença provocadora da pessoa amada. Por outro lado, a narrativa permite também tomar a condição de exílio não apenas em sua dimensão negativa e opressiva, mas destaca o espaço de liberdade que ela resguarda. A travessia do conto, portanto, permitirá uma tomada do exílio tanto como subtração das possibilidades de leitura do mundo por parte de quem se vê em condição de desterro quanto como espaço de liberdade para construção da própria experiência.

The so-called Portuguese Parity Law adopted in 2006 determined that candidate lists presented for national, European and local elections must include one third minimum representation of each sex. Following its revision in 2019, the minimum percentage required for each sex increased to 40%. The implementation of the Portuguese Parity Law has succeeded in meeting the direct goals of the policy. However, can the same be said for all stages of implementation? Moreover, even when the numbers tell a success story, what practices and resistances do they conceal? And, finally, has the law contributed to gender empowerment that goes beyond the direct scope of the law? This chapter aims to answer these questions by focusing on the national Parliament and on the major Portuguese parties. It draws on the figures for candidates and MPs between 2002 and 2019 as well as on semi-directive interviews with party stakeholders. The main conclusions are the following. First, the implementation of the law takes place smoothly in all four stages of implementation, although parties have usually gone no further than the minimum quota requirements. Parties’ actions and discourses demonstrate a moderate but serious commitment to the law. Second, both explicit and implicit forms of individual resistance, as well as passive institutional resistance take place at the national level for both parties. These resistances are not intended to cause policy failure, but rather to limit policy success. PurposeThe CRIAS (Health trajectories of Immigrant Children in Amadora) cohort study was created to explore whether children exposed to a migratory process experience different health risks over time, including physical health, cognitive, socioemotional and behavioural challenges and different healthcare utilisation patterns.ParticipantsThe original CRIAS was set up to include 604 children born in 2015, of whom 50% were immigrants, and their parents. Recruitment of 420 children took place between June 2019 and March 2020 at age 4/5 years, with follow-up carried out at age 5/6 years, at age 6/7 years currently under way.Findings to dateBaseline data at age 4/5 years (2019–2020) suggested immigrant children to be more likely to belong to families with less income, compared with non-immigrant children. Being a first-generation immigrant child increased the odds of emotional and behavioural difficulties (adjusted OR 2.2; 95% CI: 1.06 to 4.76); more immigrant children required monitoring of items in the psychomotor development test (38.5% vs 28.3%). The prevalence of primary care utilisation was slightly higher among immigrant children (78.0% vs 73.8%), yet they received less health monitoring assessments for age 4 years. Utilisation of the hospital emergency department was higher among immigrants (53.2% vs 40.6%). Age 5 years follow-up (2020–2021) confirmed more immigrant children requiring monitoring of psychomotor development, compared with non-immigrant children (33.9% vs 21.6%). Economic inequalities exacerbated by post-COVID-19 pandemic confinement with parents of immigrant children 3.2 times more likely to have their household income decreased.Future plansFurther follow-up will take place at 8, 10, 12/13 and 15 years of age. Funds awarded by the National Science Foundation will allow 900 more children from four other Lisbon area municipalities to be included in the cohort (cohort-sequential design).

Lahire é professor de Sociologia na Escola Normal Superior de Lyon, na França, diretor da equipe “Disposições, poderes, culturas e socializações” e um dos principais especialistas, na atualidade, na obra de Pierre Bourdieu. Lahire conhe-ceu nossa universidade, conversou com estudantes de pós-graduação sobre as pesquisas em desenvolvimento e nos brindou com a Conferência “Os prolongamentos críticos do trabalho sociológico de Pierre Bourdieu”, no dia 06 de dezembro de 2011.

Policiais Militares que atuam nas ruas lidam com demandas emocionais da população, de suspeitos, criminosos e de vítimas e isso afeta o uso de estratégias de regulação emocional e o engajamento no trabalho. Este estudo testou a mediação da identidade profissional do PM na relação entre trabalho emocional (demandas e estratégias) e o engajamento. Participaram do estudo 302 policiais militares. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: Emotional Labour Scale, Emotion Work Requirements Scale, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, e a Escala Trifatorial da Identidade Social. Os resultados apontaram que a identidade profissional medeia a relação entre as demandas de expressão de emoções positivas, ação profunda e ação superficial com o engajamento, confirmando as três hipóteses levantadas nesse estudo. Conclui-se que a identidade profissional pode funcionar como um recurso pessoal do PM com efeitos positivos no trabalho, quando o trabalhador tenta mudar seus sentimentos internos para atender demandas emocionais do público com quem interage.

The role of migration as a determinant in child mental health has been demonstrated in a number of studies. However, results are not always consistent, and the research continues to be scarce, especially in Portugal. We examined the association between sociodemographic profiles and the chance for the development of emotional and behavioral difficulties in a group of 420 children, immigrant (n = 217) and born in Portugal to Portuguese born parents (n = 203). We used a structured questionnaire to obtain sociodemographic information and the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Descriptive statistics were used to characterize children and their families, variables were compared between groups using the Chi-squared, Fisher&rsquo, s Exact Test, or the Mann&ndash, Whitney U test and logistic regression was used to analyze the association between socio-demographic factors and emotional and behavioral difficulties. Results showed a pattern of social and mental health inequalities with immigrant children at a disadvantage: they are more often part of families with low income and where parents had low skilled jobs. Internalizing behaviors are more frequent in immigrants than in children born in Portugal to Portuguese-born parents (p = 0.001) whereas a high total SDQ difficulties score (p = 0.039) and externalizing behaviors were more frequent in 1st generation immigrant children (p = 0.009). A low family income (aOR 4.5, 95% CI: 1.43&ndash, 13.95), low parental education level (aOR 2.5, 95% CI: 1.11&ndash, 5.16), and being a first-generation immigrant child (aOR 2.2, 95% CI: 1.06&ndash, 4.76) increased significantly the chance of developing emotional and behavioral difficulties. This study contributes to the identification of children vulnerable to mental health problems who can benefit from monitoring, early detection and preventive interventions in order to mitigate possible negative outcomes in the future.

O presente artigo se debruça sobre um dos desafios enfrentados por Raymond Williams de forma renovada em sua obra, qual seja, o do entrecruzamento entre uma análise formal das expressões literárias e a dimensão política não só da obra em questão mas da análise mesma por ele empreendida. O sentido de apreender esse entrecruzamento é o de relembrar às análises mais recentes de produções artísticas politicamente engajadas que o trabalho analítico não pode pressupor que a pertinência de um tema socialmente relevante se transmuta automaticamente num problema teórico formulado. De outra forma, assim como fez Williams, é necessário convertê-lo em tal problema de investigação para que se alcance, de fato, a dimensão política nele implicada.

Tem como objetivo analisar as estratégias utilizadas por camponeses assentados para garantir a permanência da família no lote. Constitui-se como elemento basilar as reflexões acerca de conflitos e negociações intergeracionais entre camponeses e mediadores, que em diferentes escalas são elementos fundamentais para dar continuidade ao processo de reprodução socioterritorial nos assentamentos rurais. O recorte empírico da pesquisa é a região do Pontal do Paranapanema localizado no extremo oeste do Estado de São Paulo especificamente os assentamentos Nova Conquista – SP, que possui 104 lotes dentre os quais 77 estão no município de Rancharia – SP e 27 no município de Martinópolis – SP e o Porto Maria – SP que encontrase no município de Rosana – SP e possui 41 lotes. A escolha dos assentamentos deve-se ao fato de que o primeiro apresenta uma quantidade significativa de camponeses agregados em condição de trabalho assalariado e o segundo é fruto da luta de camponeses agregados do assentamento Gleba XV de Novembro. As metodologias utilizadas foram: pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa documental, entrevistas, diários de campo e cartografia social. O aporte teórico conta com os conceitos de trabalho, território, gênero, geração, juventude rural e reprodução socioterritorial. This thesis is on the elements which compose the peasants’ socio-territorial reproduction. It aims at analyzing the strategies used by settled peasants to guarantee their families remain in the lot. Its fundamental element were the reflections on the intergenerational conflicts and negotiations between peasants and mediators which are, in different levels, the foundation to allow the process of socio-territorial reproduction in rural settlements to continue. The research was conducted in the area of Pontal do Paranapanema, in the far west of São Paulo State, more specifically in the settlement of Nova Conquista – SP, which has 104 lots, from which 77 are in the city of Rancharia – SP and 27 in the city of Martinópolis – SP and in the settlement of Porto Maria – SP which is situated in the city of Rosana – SP and has 41 lots. The choosing of the settlements is due to the fact that the former present a meaningful amount of household peasants in wage earner position and the later is the result of struggles of household peasants from Gleba XV de Novembro settlement. The methodologies used in this research were bibliographic research, documentary research, interviews, field diaries and social cartography. In this context, research in malaria, a disease endemic to poverty, may be at a paradoxical stance. This study addresses this issue assessing whether malaria research is driven by the accumulation of economic and/or other forms of capital. Drawing upon academic and epistemic capitalism, malaria research is characterized through the analysis of all Web of science-indexed publications involving Portuguese organizations (1900-2014; n=467). First, data was systematized by content and bibliometric analyses. Subsequently, multiple correspondence analysis revealed a bi-dimensional landscape (who's publishing; what's published) and cluster analysis identified three profiles (beginners; local appropriations; global science). This study reveals the construction of Portugal's scientific system and unveils the assimilation of dominant modes of organizing, doing and thinking despite malaria's research low profit potential. Extending this approach to other biomedical fields can unravel the dimensions underlying science's (re)construction. publishersversion published

Resumo Este texto faz uma breve discussão da área da sociologia da literatura em âmbito internacional, trazendo uma síntese dos conflitos e indefinições que marcam sua institucionalização, bem como da produção acadêmica da área, ressurgida a partir da década de 1990, com vistas a introduzir e contextualizar o dossiê Literatura e conhecimento sociológico que compõe esta edição de Sociologias. Este dossiê pretende ser recebido como parte de um conjunto de trabalhos recentes que se vêm dedicando a redimensionar o escopo da sociologia da literatura. Os artigos nele encartados partiram de um tema específico: a relação entre literatura e conhecimento sociológico, o que põe em relevo uma reflexão sobre a natureza do conhecimento que se pode extrair de cada uma dessas formas de reconstrução do mundo social.

O presente artigo tem como objetivo traçar um rápido panorama histórico dos principais vetores teórico-metodológicos desenvolvidos no que é usualmente chamado de “sociologia da litera- tura”. Em primeiro lugar, chama atenção para a crescente produção bibliográfica sobre essa temática. Identifica três grandes tendências nesses estudos: a “estética sociológica”, a “crítica literária” e a “pesquisa histórica”. Por último, analisa as reviravoltas teóricas ocorridas nos fins do Século XX (as “novas sociologias”) e suas implicações para a constituição de uma área de pesquisa sobre literatura. Nessa perspectiva, o principal interesse é compreender as diferentes práticas envolvidas nos distintos trajetos que enfeixam o fenômeno “literário”. A maior inserção dos trabalhos sobre literatura nos cursos de sociologia tem contribuído para que essa área de pesquisa se torne mais autônoma, uma autonomia resultante das interseções entre diferentes áreas das ciências humanas e sociais.

A necessidade do Protocolo num clube desportivo obriga a que haja um conhecimento de um conjunto de preceitos que têm de ser alcançados em eventos, não só em cerimónias protocolares, mas também no simples quotidiano. As normas de cortesia, os códigos de conduta, os atos de boa educação e bom senso, facilitam a vida em sociedade em qualquer espaço. Neste relatório de estágio curricular, desenvolvido no Departamento da Direção Comercial e de Marketing: Inovação e Desenvolvimento de Negócio: Protocolo do Sport Lisboa e Benfica, será abordada a: caraterização da instituição, finalidades e processos de estágio, enquadramento da prática profissional de natureza concetual, contexto institucional e legal da instituição, história e instalações do clube, caraterísticas da instituição, realização da prática profissional das atividades desenvolvidas pelo protocolo, comparação entre várias instituições desportivas e por fim, conclusões onde consta a análise SWOT do protocolo, dificuldades sentidas, análise dos efeitos e das consequências da intervenção realizada, estabelecimento de perspetivas futuras e sugestões a propor. Nestas páginas, é possível verificar que o Sport Lisboa e Benfica alargou ao máximo as ações de trabalho da mestranda, permitindo o acompanhamento em funções dentro da Direção Comercial e de Marketing, não só no Protocolo, mas também nos Eventos. The necessity of the Protocol in a sports club obliged to a knowledge of a set of precepts that have to be reached in events, not only in protocol ceremonies, but also in the simple day to day. Courtesy norms, codes of conduct and acts of good education and common sense, facilitate the life in society in any space. In this curricular internship report, developed in the Department of Commercial and Marketing Management: Innovation and Business Development: Protocol of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, are addressed the: characterization of the institution, purposes and internship processes, framework of professional practice of a conceptual nature, institutional and legal context of the institution, history and facilities of the club, characteristics of the institution, accomplishment of the professional practice where the activities developed by the protocol are described, comparison between several sports institutions, and, finally, findings where protocol SWOT analysis is verified, difficulties experienced, analysis of the effects and consequences of the intervention performed, establishment of future perspectives and suggestions to propose. In these pages, it is possible to verify that the Sport Lisboa e Benfica extended to the maximum the work actions of the master, allowing the monitoring in functions within the Commercial and Marketing Department, not only in the Protocol, but also in the Events.

UID/SOC/04647/2013 A Mutilação Genital Feminina, ou Corte dos Genitais Femininos (MGF/CGF), constitui-se como mais uma das formas de violência baseada no género e um atentado aos direitos e liberdades das crianças, meninas e mulheres em vários países do mundo, incluindo Portugal. São graves as consequências para a saúde física e psicológica das mulheres e meninas a ela submetidas. A MGF/CGF é hoje considerada um problema de direitos humanos e de saúde pública incontornável para a maioria dos países europeus que acolhem populações migrantes oriundas dos países praticantes. Neste artigo, exploraremos a magnitude e extensão do fenómeno, ao mesmo tempo que analisaremos os contextos socioculturais da prática, sobretudo a partir de entrevistas realizadas a mulheres a residir em Portugal e que foram submetidas a esta prática nefasta. Female Genital Mutilation or Genital Cutting (FGM/GC) is a form of gender-based violence and an attack on the rights and freedoms of girls and women in several countries of the world, including Portugal. With serious consequences for the physical and psychological health of women and girls who have been subjected to FGM/GC, it is now considered as a human rights and public health issue, unavoidable for most European countries that host migrant populations from the countries where FGM/GC is practiced. In this article, we will explore the magnitude and extent of the phenomenon, while analyzing the sociocultural contexts of FGM/GC, namely through interviews conducted with women residing in Portugal who were subjected to this harmful practice. publishersversion published

Structurally similar molecules tend to have similar properties, i.e. closer molecules in the molecular space are more likely to yield similar property values while distant molecules are more likely to yield different values. Based on this principle, we propose the use of a new method that takes into account the high dimensionality of the molecular space, predicting chemical, physical, or biological properties based on the most similar compounds with measured properties. This methodology uses ordinary kriging coupled with three different molecular similarity approaches (based on molecular descriptors, fingerprints, and atom matching) which creates an interpolation map over the molecular space that is capable of predicting properties/activities for diverse chemical data sets. The proposed method was tested in two data sets of diverse chemical compounds collected from the literature and preprocessed. One of the data sets contained dihydrofolate reductase inhibition activity data, and the second molecules for which aqueous solubility was known. The overall predictive results using kriging for both data sets comply with the results obtained in the literature using typical QSPR/QSAR approaches. However, the procedure did not involve any type of descriptor selection or even minimal information about each problem, suggesting that this approach is directly applicable to a large spectrum of problems in QSAR/QSPR. Furthermore, the predictive results improve significantly with the similarity threshold between the training and testing compounds, allowing the definition of a confidence threshold of similarity and error estimation for each case inferred. The use of kriging for interpolation over the molecular metric space is independent of the training data set size, and no reparametrizations are necessary when more compounds are added or removed from the set, and increasing the size of the database will consequentially improve the quality of the estimations. Finally it is shown that this model can be used for checking the consistency of measured data and for guiding an extension of the training set by determining the regions of the molecular space for which new experimental measurements could be used to maximize the model's predictive performance.

Measuring similarity between molecules is a fundamental problem in cheminformatics. Given that similar molecules tend to have similar physical, chemical, and biological properties, the notion of molecular similarity plays an important role in the exploration of molecular data sets, query-retrieval in molecular databases, and in structure-property/activity modeling. Various methods to define structural similarity between molecules are available in the literature, but so far none has been used with consistent and reliable results for all situations. We propose a new similarity method based on atom alignment for the analysis of structural similarity between molecules. This method is based on the comparison of the bonding profiles of atoms on comparable molecules, including features that are seldom found in other structural or graph matching approaches like chirality or double bond stereoisomerism. The similarity measure is then defined on the annotated molecular graph, based on an iterative directed graph similarity procedure and optimal atom alignment between atoms using a pairwise matching algorithm. With the proposed approach the similarities detected are more intuitively understood because similar atoms in the molecules are explicitly shown. This noncontiguous atom matching structural similarity method (NAMS) was tested and compared with one of the most widely used similarity methods (fingerprint-based similarity) using three difficult data sets with different characteristics. Despite having a higher computational cost, the method performed well being able to distinguish either different or very similar hydrocarbons that were indistinguishable using a fingerprint-based approach. NAMS also verified the similarity principle using a data set of structurally similar steroids with differences in the binding affinity to the corticosteroid binding globulin receptor by showing that pairs of steroids with a high degree of similarity (80%) tend to have smaller differences in the absolute value of binding activity. Using a highly diverse set of compounds with information about the monoamine oxidase inhibition level, the method was also able to recover a significantly higher average fraction of active compounds when the seed is active for different cutoff threshold values of similarity. Particularly, for the cutoff threshold values of 86%, 93%, and 96.5%, NAMS was able to recover a fraction of actives of 0.57, 0.63, and 0.83, respectively, while the fingerprint-based approach was able to recover a fraction of actives of 0.41, 0.40, and 0.39, respectively. NAMS is made available freely for the whole community in a simple Web based tool as well as the Python source code at http://nams.lasige.di.fc.ul.pt/.

UID/SOC/04647/2013 SFRH/BPD/77611/2011 Portugal had steady increases of innovation performance and innovation activities in companies up to 2010, the year when the sovereign debt crisis burst in Europe and one year before Portugal’s bailout by the Troika. Since then, there is an inversion of this increasing trend that is concomitant to negative economic performance by firms. Understanding innovation as a future-oriented social change process that, building upon scientific and technological (S&T) knowledge, is framed by organizational, social, economic and political contexts, we questioned how innovation development was dependent on these contexts during the crisis in Portugal. For this purpose, we quantitatively characterized innovation activities and its contexts in 309 firms of the Information and Communication Technologies sector between 2010 and 2012. Following, we performed a cluster analysis and identified two innovation profiles. These present intra- and extra-organizational dimensions with indicators on financial resources and number of clients contributing the most to discriminate firms’ profiles and not indicators assessing scientific or technological activities. Additionally, our data shows that in favourable contexts, historically- and contextually-embedded confidence emerges and surpasses future-associated uncertainty, thus enabling innovation development. In more unfavourable scenarios, the absence of confidence inhibits innovation contributing to trap firms in deleterious vicious cycles. This study shows that the additive impacts of the intra- and extra organizational contexts have to be jointly tackled to foster innovation development. In addition, perceptions on confidence in the companies’ future are dependent on companies’ innovation profiles and thus can give us, in a snapshot, an indication of companies’ physiognomies. publishersversion published

To study hepatic lesions in living children with sickle cell disease. Although such lesions are well known, the possibility of chronic persistent damage to the parenchyma resulting from the disease itself or iron overload is controversial.Sixteen children with sickle cell disease aged 15 months to 18 years were prospectively investigated out of 741 patients younger than 20 years registered at Hemominas Foundation, Brazil. Inclusion criteria for biopsy were as follows: five had positive anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody, two had positive hepatitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen and persistently increased levels of aminotransferases, and nine underwent biopsy during abdominal surgery.Children with B or C hepatitis were significantly older than the others and also had increased levels of both alanine and aspartate aminotransferases. Lobular architecture was preserved in all nonviral cases; mild to moderate sinusoidal dilatation was present in eight, hepatocellular regenerative activity in six, and focal necrosis and corresponding mild inflammatory infiltrate in three. No fibrosis or bile duct damage was observed. Mild to severe hemosiderosis was present in all children except one. The degree of iron overload was clearly associated with the number of previous blood transfusions. All five children with HCV had chronic hepatitis. One of the children with HBV had incomplete and the other had definite cirrhosis.These data indicate that chronic hepatic lesions in children with sickle cell disease may be caused by viral damage. Patients without evidence for viral etiology had reversible vascular lesions. Follow-up studies would be necessary to confirm this hypothesis but are precluded for ethical reasons. Hemosiderosis was not associated with fibrosis in any nonviral cases, but a larger number of patients would be necessary to establish valid conclusions.

O objetivo deste artigo é perscrutar a contribuição dada por Pau Brasil, de Oswald de Andrade, à mitologia bandeirante consolidada no período, ampliando o leque dos usos políticos que se fizeram dessa figura mitológica. Trata-se de inserir essa obra emblemática da fase heroica do modernismo paulista, reconhecidamente vanguardista e progressista, num debate cujo sentido geral era o de fornecer uma explicação histórica para a dianteira econômica de São Paulo e, com isso, justificar suas pretensões de supremacia política. No entanto, este artigo busca delimitar uma clivagem constituída por Pau Brasil no ideário bandeirante do momento: distanciando-se da pretensão de sobrepujar o restante da nação, num gesto de apagamento da herança cultural portuguesa Pau Brasil constrói a figura do bandeirante para substituir o colonizador nas origens culturais brasileiras. The purpose of the article is to scrutinize the contribution of Oswald de Andrade’s book Pau Brasil to the mythology of the bandeirante, which was consolidated in the period, extending the range of political uses made about such mythological figure. In this sense, the article inserts this emblematic work of the heroic phase of Paulista modernism - admittedly an avant-garde and progressive work - in a debate whose general direction was to provide an historical explanation for the economic strength of Sao Paulo, and thus justify its claims to political supremacy. According to the author, however, Pau Brasil represents a cleavage in the conceptions of the bandeirante, which she seeks to delimit. For her, Pau Brasil distances itself from any kind of claim to overcome the rest of the nation. In a gesture intended to erase the strength attributed to the Portuguese heritage, the book builds the figure of the bandeirante in order to replace the colonizer in the origins of the Brazilian cultural backgrounds. Le but de cet article est d’examiner la contribution apportée par Pau Brasil, l’œuvre de Oswald de Andrade, à la mythologie bandeirante consolidée au cours des années 1920 et qui a amplifié l’éventail des usages politiques qui ont été fait de cette représentation mythologique. Il s’agit d’insérer cette œuvre emblématique de la phase héroïque du modernisme pauliste, reconnue comme étant d’avant-garde et progressiste, dans un débat dont le but était de fournir une explication historique à l’avancée économique de São Paulo et de justifier, ainsi, ses prétentions à la suprématie politique. Cet article tente, néanmoins, de définir un clivage constitué par Pau Brasil dans l’idéal bandeirante de l’époque : en s’écartant d’une revendication de la suprématie politique de São Paulo, et dans un geste d’effacement de l’héritage culturel portugais, Pau Brasil construit le mythe du bandeirante pour remplacer le colonisateur dans les origines culturelles brésiliennes.

No leite humano estão contidos todos os nutrientes necessários a um crescimento e desenvolvimento saudáveis, influenciando a saúde do bebé a curto e longo prazo, bem como o conjunto de defesas nele presente, que são fundamentais para o sistema imunitário imaturo e indefeso à nascença. No presente trabalho é feita uma revisão dos principais benefícios, conferidos ao bebé e à mãe, oferecidos pela amamentação. O leite materno oferece proteção contra várias patologias, tais como as gastrointestinais, as respiratórias, a obesidade, a síndrome da morte súbita do lactente, além de influenciar positivamente o desenvolvimento do sistema cognitivo da criança. O ato da amamentação influencia também no desenvolvimento da cavidade oral, prevenindo o aparecimento de anomalias oclusais. Os benefícios não se prendem só à saúde do bebé, estendendo-se também à saúde da mãe que se possuirá menos chances de ser afetada por algumas neoplasias, como a da mama, a do ovário e a endométrio, osteoporose e artrite reumatoide, auxiliando, também, na perda de peso após a gravidez. Através desta revisão pode-se concluir que a amamentação é uma prática a ser incentivada pelos benefícios a ela inerentes. Breastfeeding is the most natural and complete source of food to be offered to the newborn. Human milk contains all the nutrients needed for a healthy growth and development, which influence the baby’s health in the short and in the long term. The set of defenses present in it are also fundamental to the immature and helpless immune system at the birth. The present work aims at summarizing the main benefits that breastfeeding confers both to the baby and to the mother. Breast milk protects the baby against gastrointestinal and respiratory pathologies, obesity and the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. In addition, it positively influences the child’s cognitive system development. The breastfeeding act also exerts influence in the development of the oral cavity by preventing the appearance of occlusal anomalies. The benefits attributed to the baby are also extended to the mother who breastfeeds. She will thus be less likely to be affected by breast, ovary and endometrium cancers, osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Breastfeeding also helps in weight loss after pregnancy. With this abstract it can be concluded that breastfeeding is to be encouraged by the benefits it entails.

This paper characterises the joint impacts of intra- and extra-organisational contexts on innovation development during the socio-economic crisis in Portugal. The characterisation of these contexts in 309 firms of the Information and Communication Technology services sector allowed for the identification of two profiles via a cluster analysis. These were mostly discriminated by financial resources and clients and not by science and technology activities. Subsequently, these profiles were related to innovation, top managers’ perceptions and expectations for the future. The data shows that under favourable contexts, innovation increases, the firm is perceived to drive innovation and confidence in the companies’ future emerges. In more unfavourable scenarios, innovation is compromised, the environment is perceived to block innovation and confidence is halted. This paper establishes companies’ profiles for the first time in Portugal and suggests that intra- and extra-organisational contexts have to be jointly tackled to foster present innovation and promote future activities.

Background One of the main topics in the development of quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) predictive models is the identification of the subset of variables that represent the structure of a molecule and which are predictors for a given property. There are several automated feature selection methods, ranging from backward, forward or stepwise procedures, to further elaborated methodologies such as evolutionary programming. The problem lies in selecting the minimum subset of descriptors that can predict a certain property with a good performance, computationally efficient and in a more robust way, since the presence of irrelevant or redundant features can cause poor generalization capacity. In this paper an alternative selection method, based on Random Forests to determine the variable importance is proposed in the context of QSPR regression problems, with an application to a manually curated dataset for predicting standard enthalpy of formation. The subsequent predictive models are trained with support vector machines introducing the variables sequentially from a ranked list based on the variable importance. Results The model generalizes well even with a high dimensional dataset and in the presence of highly correlated variables. The feature selection step was shown to yield lower prediction errors with RMSE values 23% lower than without feature selection, albeit using only 6% of the total number of variables (89 from the original 1485). The proposed approach further compared favourably with other feature selection methods and dimension reduction of the feature space. The predictive model was selected using a 10-fold cross validation procedure and, after selection, it was validated with an independent set to assess its performance when applied to new data and the results were similar to the ones obtained for the training set, supporting the robustness of the proposed approach. Conclusions The proposed methodology seemingly improves the prediction performance of standard enthalpy of formation of hydrocarbons using a limited set of molecular descriptors, providing faster and more cost-effective calculation of descriptors by reducing their numbers, and providing a better understanding of the underlying relationship between the molecular structure represented by descriptors and the property of interest.

The human blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a membrane that protects the central nervous system (CNS) by restricting the passage of solutes. The development of any new drug must take into account its existence whether for designing new molecules that target components of the CNS or, on the other hand, to find new substances that should not penetrate the barrier. Several studies in the literature have attempted to predict BBB penetration, so far with limited success and few, if any, application to real world drug discovery and development programs. Part of the reason is due to the fact that only about 2% of small molecules can cross the BBB, and the available data sets are not representative of that reality, being generally biased with an over-representation of molecules that show an ability to permeate the BBB (BBB positives). To circumvent this limitation, the current study aims to devise and use a new approach based on Bayesian statistics, coupled with state-of-the-art machine learning methods to produce a robust model capable of being applied in real-world drug research scenarios. The data set used, gathered from the literature, totals 1970 curated molecules, one of the largest for similar studies. Random Forests and Support Vector Machines were tested in various configurations against several chemical descriptor set combinations. Models were tested in a 5-fold cross-validation process, and the best one tested over an independent validation set. The best fitted model produced an overall accuracy of 95%, with a mean square contingency coefficient (ϕ) of 0.74, and showing an overall capacity for predicting BBB positives of 83% and 96% for determining BBB negatives. This model was adapted into a Web based tool made available for the whole community at http://b3pp.lasige.di.fc.ul.pt.

Facultat de Ciencies Biologiques / Instituto Superior de Agronomia The genus Limonium Miller is a highly complex taxonomic group and a large number of micro-species has been described as a result of their reproductive strategies, sexual and/or apomixis. In Portugal, there are few and old studies on Limonium species, although the country has exceptional conditions for their presence, given that they inhabit rocky cliffs, beaches and salt-marshes. This study was intended to clarify the identity of ambiguous specimens related to taxon Limonium vulgare Miller, typical in the salt-marshes of Continental Portugal. We performed a comparative chorological, morphometric, karyological and reprodutive study between reference species L. vulgare, L. humile and L. narbonense deposited in herbaria in Spain, and herbarium specimens present Portuguese herbaria, and specimens collected along the Portuguese coast. All individuals collected or present in Portuguese herbaria inhabit in estuaries, except a population that was found on a beach (Praia da Veiga, Viana do Castelo). Roots obtained from the seeds collected in some of the individuals showed tetraploid or aneuploid tetraploid karyotypes with 2 n = 4x = 35, 36 or 38 chromosomes. Factorial correspondence analysis based on heterostyly reveal that except (Praia da Veiga, Viana do Castelo), most populations were distylic containing both the short-styled (“Thrum” flowers) and long-styled floral morphs (“Pin” flowers). Also this analysis reveal that the most frequent polen-stigma combinations present in the majority of populations were A and B, suggesting that cross-fertilization may be favored The principal component analysis allowed us to observe that vegetative traits, respectively the scape height, leaf length/width and branch angle are significantly correlated with each other. Reproductive traits like spike length, maximum distance between spikelets and bracts lenght are also correlated with each other. After discriminant analysis it was observed that most of the populations studied are mixed, with a predominance of L. narbonense and L. vulgare. Limonium humile is only present, in a small percentage, in populations of Aveiro and Tagus estuaries. The population of Praia da Veiga (Viana do Castelo), which shows proper characteristics, cannot be attributed to any of the three reference species. This study concluded that there are two new species for the flora of continental Portugal, L. humile and L. narbonense, and suggests that individuals from Praia da Veiga (Viana do Castelo) population could be another new species to Portuguese flora.

Instrumentos para avaliação da memória: Teste de Aprendizagem Auditivo Verbal de Rey (RAVLT); Instrumentos para avaliação das Funções Executivas: Teste das Trilhas (TT); Teste Stroop (St); Sequência de Números e Letras (SNL) e Teste de Dígitos (TD); Fluência Verbal (FV). Medida Fisiológica; Glicemia Capilar (GC). A amostra foi composta por 48 participantes. 58% eram do sexo feminino, com idade média de 57,7; 34% da amostra cursou o Ensino Fundamental (4 anos de escolaridade). O Tempo médio de diabetes foi de 122 meses; a média da Glicemia Capilar foi de 202,8. 65% da amostra não usavam insulina, 69% eram Hipertensos. No MEEM apresentaram média de 27,4 pontos. A análise estatística evidenciou uma associação estatisticamente significante para os testes Memória Tardia, Teste de Reconhecimento (RAVLT); TT(B); TT (B-A); TD; St (condição 2-tempo); St (condição 3- respostas corretas); SNL e FV em relação ao MEEM. O uso da insulina foi um preditor estatisticamente significante para o TT (B-A). Concluiu-se que as variáveis clínicas tempo de diabetes, uso de insulina e níveis de glicemia não estão associadas com as medidas de desempenho da memória episódica e das funções executivas em pessoas com Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 2. O MEEM é uma medida eficiente para prever o desempenho da memória episódica e das funções executivas. Abstract: To evaluate the association between episodic memory and executive functions and some clinical variables (duration of diabetes, insulin levels, glucose levels and MMSE) in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. We used the following tests: screening instruments: demographics questionnaire and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Instruments to assess memory: Test of Rey Auditory Verbal Learning (RAVLT). Instruments for the assessment of executive functions: Trail of Test (TT), Stroop Test (St); Sequence Numbers and Letters (SNL) and Digit Span Test (TD), Verbal Fluency (VF). Physiological Measurement: Capillary Glycemia (CG). The sample consisted of 48 participants. 58% were female, mean age 57.7, 34% of the sample attended elementary school (four years of schooling). The mean time of diabetes was 122 months, the mean Capillary Glycemia was 202.8. 65% have not used insulin, 69% were hypertensive patients. Had a mean MMSE of 27.4 points. The statistical analysis showed a statistically significant association for the tests Delayed Memory, Recognition Test (RAVLT), TT (B) TT (B-A), DT; St (condition 2-time) St (condition 3-correct answers); SNL and VF in relation to the MMSE. Insulin was a statistically significant predictor for TT (B-A). The clinical duration of diabetes, insulin use and glycemia levels are not associated with the performance measures of episodic memory and executive functions in people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The MMSE is an effective measure to predict the performance of episodic memory and executive functions.

A satisfação no trabalho tem sido uma temática bastante explorada. A sua centralidade faz com que muitas tenham sido as tentativas de a prever e explicar. Os resultados vão variando de acordo com a metodologia estatística empregue e também com os dados utilizados. Neste estudo serão usados os dados portugueses (entre 1998 e 2001) do European Community Household Panel, um inquérito longitudinal com uma periodicidade anual. As variáveis utilizadas correspondem a percepções de satisfação com o trabalho de uma forma geral e de satisfação com dimensões específicas do trabalho: salário, segurança, horários, tipo, número de horas e condições de trabalho (dimensões medidas através de variáveis ordinais). Serão considerados apenas os indivíduos em idade activa, que trabalham a tempo inteiro e que responderam validamente às questões de satisfação consideradas nas 8 waves do ECHP disponíveis, o que resulta numa amostra final de 2477 indivíduos. Propõe-se a estimação de modelos de trajectória latente como uma nova via de modelação da satisfação no trabalho, tendo em conta a natureza das variáveis de partida, beneficiando das vantagens que esta metodologia apresenta relativamente às mais comummente utilizadas. Pretende-se não só descrever como também explicar as trajectórias de satisfação. Percebe-se ainda que diferentes abordagens ao conceito de satisfação no trabalho – modelação do indicador genérico de satisfação e dos indicadores de satisfação com as várias facetas do trabalho (através de LGCM de segunda ordem) – resultam em estimativas diferenciadas. Todos os modelos foram estimados em MPlus 5 e, sempre que possível, em LISREL 8.80. Job satisfaction has been, for quite some time, an area of research fairly surveyed. The substantial number of attempts of comprehension, and even prediction, of the phenomenon shows its importance on modern societies. However, the results differ according to the data and to the statistical methodology employed. The current study uses the Portuguese data (concerning the years between 1998 and 2001) from the European Community Household Panel (ECHP), a representative longitudinal survey conducted on an annual basis. The selected variables are overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with specific job facets: earnings; security; type of work; number of hours; working times and working conditions (all ordinal outcomes). The respondents aged between 16 and 64 years old, who work full-time and have valid answers to the satisfaction questions of interest on all ECHP waves are considered (N=2477). The current work proposes the estimation of latent growth curve models as a new way of modelling job satisfaction, accounting for the categorical nature of the outcomes, in order to benefit from the advantages that this method shows in comparison with the commonly used methodologies. The aim is to describe and to explain job satisfaction growth. Different approaches to the concept of job satisfaction – considering overall job satisfaction or job satisfaction in its specific facets (using a second order LGCM) – result in different parameter estimates. All models are estimated using MPlus 5 and, when possible, LISREL 8.80.

As isoflavonas são fitoestrógenos que desempenham atividades biológicas como estrogênica e inibidora de enzimas reguladoras do ciclo celular, sendo para aplicação tópica ressaltada a atividade antioxidante e antitumoral. Dentre as isoflavonas, a genisteína apresenta atividade biológica mais pronunciada, entretanto, sua baixa hidrossolubilidade dificulta tanto sua incorporação em bases para administração tópica na pele, quanto sua permeação passiva. Assim, o desenvolvimento de sistemas nanocarreadores particulados, como as nanocápsulas, com o intuito de acentuar suas atividades biológicas e possibilitar sua administração sobre a pele, tornou-se o objetivo desse trabalho. Para tanto, nanocápsulas de PLA contendo genisteína foram preparadas pelo método de deposição interfacial do polímero pré-formado, caracterizadas e avaliadas quanto à estabilidade por 90 dias. Posteriormente genisteína livre e nanoencapsulada foi incorporada em formulações tópicas semi-sólidas (gel e emulsão) e avaliadas em modelos in vitro, quanto à habilidade de modularem a penetração na pele de suíno e membrana sintética. O diâmetro médio das nanocapsulas foi 138,5 nm (DP± 2,95) e índice de polidispersibilidade de 0,126 (DP± 0.03). Após separação da genisteína livre e nanoencapsulada, o fármaco foi quantificado por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência e demonstrou 89,63% (DP±2,27) de eficiência de encapsulação, seguido de perda por vazamento para 63,80% (DP±11,26) em 90 dias. Os testes de permeação demonstraram que a formulação em gel contendo genisteína nanoencapsulada apresentou maior concentração permeada, havendo diferença significativa para todas as formulações testadas e semelhança, apenas entre a quantidade de GEN remanescente na forma farmacêutica das formulações contendo NC em gel e emulsão, bem como, entre as quantidades de fármaco retido na pele das formulações contendo genisteína livre em gel e emulsão. Os parâmetros cinéticos das formas nanoencapsuladas demonstraram maior coeficiente de correlação para o modelo cinético de ordem zero, indicando que o fluxo não dependeu de sua concentração. As concentrações de genisteína nanoencapsulada permeada através da membrana sintética e pele suína apresentaram diferença significativa havendo dependência com o tempo. Dessa forma, o estudo realizado demonstrou que o sistema polimérico desenvolvido apresenta grande potencial para aplicação como nanocarreador da genisteína em sistemas biológicos Isoflavones are phytoestrogens that have biological activities such as estrogenic and inhibiting enzymes that regulate the cell cycle, and for topic application it is highlighted antioxidant and anticancer activities. Amongst isoflavones, genistein shows the greatest biological activity, however, its low hydrosolubility damages incorporation in topic vehicles and passive permeation. Therefore, development of particulated nanocarrier systems, such as nanocapsules, aiming to increase genistein biological activities and make topic administration possible, became this work s objective. To do so, PLA nanocapsules containing genistein were prepared by interfacial polymer deposition method, then characterized, and their 90 days stability was evaluated. Later, free and nanoencapsulated genistein were incorporated into semi-solid formulations (gel and emulsion) and evaluated by in vitro models using classical Franz-type diffusion cells, to measure its ability to modulate swine skin and synthetic membranes penetration. Nanocapsules average diameter was 138,5 nm (DP± 2,95) and PDI found was 0,126 (DP± 0.03). After separation of free genistein, the drug was quantified by HPLC and showed 89,63% (DP±2,27) encapsulation efficiency, followed by loss by leaking to 63,80% (DP±11,26) in 90 days. Permeation tests demonstrated that gel formulation containing nanoencapsulated genistein presented the greatest permeated concentration, and there was significant difference for all tested formulations and similarity only between genistein quantity reminiscent in the dosage form of formulations containing gel and emulsion, as well as drug quantities retained in the skin of gel and emulsion formulations containing genistein. Nanoencapsulated forms kinetic parameters showed the greatest correlation coefficient for kinetic of zero order model, indicating that flow didn t depend on its concentration. Nanoencapsulated genistein concentrations permeation across synthetic and swine skin presented significant difference depending on time. Thus, the study performed showed that the polymeric system developed presents great potential for application as genistein nanocarrier in biological systems
