1. Coronavirus disease 2019-related myocarditis genes contribute to ECMO prognosis

Abstract: Abstract Background Acute myocardial injury, cytokine storms, hypoxemia and pathogen-mediated damage were the major causes responsible for mortality induced by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related myocarditis. These need ECMO treatment. We investigated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in patients with COVID-19-related myocarditis and ECMO prognosis. Methods GSE150392 and GSE93101 were analyzed to identify DEGs. A Venn diagram was used to obtain the same transcripts between myocarditis-related and ECMO-related DEGs. Enrichment pathway analysis was performed and hub genes were identified. Pivotal miRNAs, transcription factors, and chemicals with the screened gene interactions were identified. The GSE167028 dataset and single-cell sequencing data were used to validate the screened genes. Results Using a Venn diagram, 229 overlapping DEGs were identified between myocarditis-related and ECMO-related DEGs, which were mainly involved in T cell activation, contractile actin filament bundle, actomyosin, cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity, and cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction. 15 hub genes and 15 neighboring DEGs were screened, which were mainly involved in the positive regulation of T cell activation, integrin complex, integrin binding, the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and the TNF signaling pathway. Data in GSE167028 and single-cell sequencing data were used to validate the screened genes, and this demonstrated that the screened genes CCL2, APOE, ITGB8, LAMC2, COL6A3 and TNC were mainly expressed in fibroblast cells; IL6, ITGA1, PTK2, ITGB5, IL15, LAMA4, CAV1, SNCA, BDNF, ACTA2, CD70, MYL9, DPP4, ENO2 and VEGFC were expressed in cardiomyocytes; IL6, PTK2, ITGB5, IL15, APOE, JUN, SNCA, CD83, DPP4 and ENO2 were expressed in macrophages; and IL6, ITGA1, PTK2, ITGB5, IL15, VCAM1, LAMA4, CAV1, ACTA2, MYL9, CD83, DPP4, ENO2, VEGFC and IL32 were expressed in vascular endothelial cells. Conclusion The screened hub genes, IL6, ITGA1, PTK2, ITGB3, ITGB5, CCL2, IL15, VCAM1, GZMB, APOE, ITGB8, LAMA4, LAMC2, COL6A3 and TNFRSF9, were validated using GEO dataset and single-cell sequencing data, which may be therapeutic targets patients with myocarditis to prevent MI progression and adverse cardiovascular events.

Abstract: AbstractContext Qinggong Shoutao Wan (QGSTW) is a pill used as a traditional medicine to treat age-associated memory decline (AAMI). However, its potential mechanisms are unclear.Objective This study elucidates the possible mechanisms of QGSTW in treating AAMI.Materials and methods Network pharmacology and molecular docking approaches were utilized to identify the potential pathway by which QGSTW alleviates AAMI. C57BL/6J mice were divided randomly into control, model, and QGSTW groups. A mouse model of AAMI was established by d-galactose, and the pathways that QGSTW acts on to ameliorate AAMI were determined by ELISA, immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting after treatment with d-gal (100 mg/kg) and QGSTW (20 mL/kg) for 12 weeks.Results Network pharmacology demonstrated that the targets of the active components were significantly enriched in the cAMP signaling pathway. AKT1, FOS, GRIN2B, and GRIN1 were the core target proteins. QGSTW treatment increased the discrimination index from −16.92 ± 7.06 to 23.88 ± 15.94% in the novel location test and from −19.54 ± 5.71 to 17.55 ± 6.73% in the novel object recognition test. ELISA showed that QGSTW could increase the levels of cAMP. Western blot analysis revealed that QGSTW could upregulate the expression of PKA, CREB, c-Fos, GluN1, GluA1, CaMKII-α, and SYN. Immunostaining revealed that the expression of SYN was decreased in the CA1 and DG.Discussion and conclusions This study not only provides new insights into the mechanism of QGSTW in the treatment of AAMI but also provides important information and new research ideas for the discovery of traditional Chinese medicine compounds that can treat AAMI.

3. METTL3 promotes the osteogenic differentiation of periosteum-derived MSCs via regulation of the HOXD8/ITGA5 axis in congenital pseudarthrosis

Abstract: Background: Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is a dominant health challenge in pediatric orthopedics. The essential process in the development of CPT is the limited capacity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from CPT to undergo osteogenic differentiation. Our research aimed to elucidate the role and mechanism of methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) in the osteogenic differentiation process of CPT MSCs. Methods: The osteogenic differentiation medium was used to culture MSCs, and the detection of osteogenic differentiation was performed using Alizarin Red S and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) assays. Gene or protein expression was assessed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), Western blot, or immunofluorescence (IF) staining. The m6A modification of Homeobox D8 (HOXD8) was verified by methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP) assay. Interactions between METTL3 and HOXD8 or HOXD8 and integrin alpha 5 (ITGA5) promoter were validated by the luciferase reporter gene, RIP, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays. Results: METTL3 overexpression enhanced CPT MSCs' osteogenic differentiation. METTL3 stabilized the HOXD8 in an m6A-dependent manner. Moreover, the overexpressed ITGA5 up-regulated the CPT MSCs’ osteogenic differentiation. Further, HOXD8 could transcriptionally activate ITGA5. METTL3 increased the transcription of ITGA5 via HOXD8 to enhance the osteogenic differentiation of CPT MSCs. Conclusion: METTL3 promoted osteogenic differentiation via modulating the HOXD8/ITGA5 axis in CPT MSCs.

4. Comparative transcriptome analysis reveals key genes and pathways in response to Alternaria alternata apple pathotype infection

Abstract: Apple leaf spot, caused by the Alternaria alternata apple pathotype (AAAP), is an important fungal disease of apple. To understand the molecular basis of resistance and pathogenesis in apple leaf spot, the transcriptomes of two apple cultivars ‘Hanfu’ (HF) (resistant) and ‘Golden Delicious’(GD) (susceptible) were analyzed at 0, 6, 18, 24 and 48 h after AAAP inoculation by RNA-Seq. At each time point, a large number of significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened between AAAP-inoculated and uninoculated apple leaves. Analysis of the common DEGs at four time points revealed significant differences in the resistance of ‘HF’ and ‘GD’ apple to AAAP infection. RLP, RNL, and JA signal-related genes were upregulated in both cultivars to restrict AAAP development. However, genes encoding CNLs, TNLs, WRKYs, and AP2s were only activated in ‘HF’ as part of the resistance response, of which, some play major roles in the regulation of ET and SA signal transduction. Further analysis showed that many DEGs with opposite expression trends in the two hosts may play important regulatory roles in response to AAAP infection. Transient expression of one such gene MdERF110 in ‘GD’ apple leaves improved AAAP resistance. Collectively, this study highlights the reasons for differential resistance to AAAP infection between ‘HF’ and ‘GD’ apples which can theoretically assist the molecular breeding of disease-resistant apple crops.

5. TC-14, a cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and high safety profile

Abstract: Summary: Cathelicidins, a major class of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), hold considerable potential for antimicrobial drug development. In the present study, we identified a novel cathelicidin AMP (TC-33) derived from the Chinese tree shrew. Despite TC-33 demonstrating weak antimicrobial activity, the novel peptide TC-14, developed based on its active region, exhibited a 432-fold increase in antimicrobial activity over the parent peptide. Structural analysis revealed that TC-14 adopted an amphipathic α-helical conformation. The bactericidal mechanism of TC-14 involved targeting and disrupting the bacterial membrane, leading to rapid membrane permeabilization and rupture. Furthermore, TC-14 exhibited a high-safety profile, as evidenced by the absence of cytotoxic and hemolytic activities, as well as high biocompatibility and safety in vivo. Of note, its potent antimicrobial activity provided significant protection in a murine model of skin infection. Overall, this study presents TC-14 as a promising drug candidate for antimicrobial drug development.

6. An efficient and accurate 2D human pose estimation method using VTTransPose network

Abstract: Abstract Human pose estimation is a crucial area of study in computer vision. Transformer-based pose estimation algorithms have gained popularity for their excellent performance and relatively compact parameterization. However, these algorithms often face challenges including high computational demands and insensitivity to local details. To address these problems, the Twin attention module was introduced in TransPose to improve model efficiency and reduce resource consumption. Additionally, to address issues related to insufficient joint feature representation and poor network recognition performance, the enhanced TransPose model, named VTTransPose, replaced the basic block in the third subnet with the intra-level feature fusion module V block. The performance of the proposed VTTransPose model was validated on the public datasets COCO val2017 and COCO test-dev2017. The experimental results on COCO val2017 and COCO test-dev2017 indicate that the AP evaluation index scores of the VTTransPose network proposed are 76.5 and 73.6 respectively, marking improvements of 0.4 and 0.2 over the original TransPose network. Additionally, VTTransPose exhibited a reduction of 4.8G FLOPs, 2M parameters, and approximately 40% lower memory usage during training compared to the original TransPose model. All the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed VTTransPose is more accurate, efficient, and lightweight compared to the original TransPose model.

7. ABYOLOv4: improved YOLOv4 human object detection based on enhanced multi-scale feature fusion

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of human object detection is to obtain the number of people and their position in images, which is one of the core problems in the field of machine vision. However, the high missing detection rate from small- and medium-sized human bodies due to the large variety of human scale in human object detection tasks still influences the performance of human object detection. To solve the above problem, this paper proposed an improved ASPP_BiFPN_YOLOv4 (ABYOLOv4) method to detect human object detection. In detail, Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module was used to replace the original Spatial Pyramid Pooling module to increase the receptive field level of the network and improve the perception ability of multi-scale targets. Then, the original Path Aggregation Network (PANet) multi-scale fusion module was replaced by the self-built bi-layer bidirectional feature pyramid network (Bi-FPN). Meanwhile, a new feature was imported into the proposed model to reuse the mid- and low-level features, which could enhance the ability of the network to express the characteristics of small- and medium-sized targets. Finally, the standard convolution in Bi-FPN was replaced by depth-separable convolution to make the network achieve the balance of accuracy and the number of parameters. To identify the performance of the proposed ABYOLOv4 model, the human object detection experiment is carried out by using the public data set of VOC2007 and VOC2012, the improved YOLOv4 algorithm is 0.5% higher than the original AP algorithm, and the weight file size of the model is reduced by 45.3 M. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed ABYOLOv4 network has higher accuracy and lower computational cost for human target detection.

Abstract: Abstract The constant emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants continues to impair the efficacy of existing neutralizing antibodies, especially XBB.1.5 and EG.5, which showed exceptional immune evasion properties. Here, we identify a highly conserved neutralizing epitope targeted by a broad-spectrum neutralizing antibody BA7535, which demonstrates high neutralization potency against not only previous variants, such as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Omicron BA.1-BA.5, but also more recently emerged Omicron subvariants, including BF.7, CH.1.1, XBB.1, XBB.1.5, XBB.1.9.1, EG.5. Structural analysis of the Omicron Spike trimer with BA7535-Fab using cryo-EM indicates that BA7535 recognizes a highly conserved cryptic receptor-binding domain (RBD) epitope, avoiding most of the mutational hot spots in RBD. Furthermore, structural simulation based on the interaction of BA7535-Fab/RBD complexes dissects the broadly neutralizing effect of BA7535 against latest variants. Therapeutic and prophylactic treatment with BA7535 alone or in combination with BA7208 protected female mice from the circulating Omicron BA.5 and XBB.1 variant infection, suggesting the highly conserved neutralizing epitope serves as a potential target for developing highly potent therapeutic antibodies and vaccines.

9. Exosomal miR-361-3p promotes the viability of breast cancer cells by targeting ETV7 and BATF2 to upregulate the PAI-1/ERK pathway

Abstract: Abstract Background Malignant progression is the major cause of poor prognosis in breast cancer (BC) patients. Plasma exosomal miRNAs have been reported to be involved in tumor progression, but their roles in BC remain unclear. Methods We performed plasma exosomal miRNA sequencing on 45 individuals, including healthy controls and nonmetastatic and metastatic BC patients. We examined the correlation between miRNA expression in tumor tissues and plasma exosomes in BC patients by qRT‒PCR. The effects of exosomal miR-361-3p on BC cells were determined by CellTiter-Glo, migration and wound healing assays. The target genes of miR-361-3p and downstream pathways were explored by dual-luciferase reporter assay, RNA knockdown, rescue experiments, and western blotting. We utilized murine xenograft model to further assess the impact of plasma exosomal miR-361-3p on the malignant progression of BC. Results We found that the expression level of plasma exosomal miR-361-3p gradually increased with malignant progression in BC patients, and the expression of miR-361-3p in plasma exosomes and BC tissues was positively correlated. Consistently, exosomal miR-361-3p enhanced the migration and proliferation of two BC cell lines, MDA-MB-231 and SK-BR-3. Furthermore, our data showed that miR-361-3p inhibited two novel target genes, ETV7 and BATF2, to activate the PAI-1/ERK pathway, leading to increased BC cell viability. Finally, the consistency of the in vivo experimental results supported that elevated plasma exosomal miR-361-3p promote the malignant progression of BC. Conclusions We found for the first time that plasma exosomal miR-361-3p was associated with malignant progression in BC patients. Mechanistically, exosomal miR-361-3p can enhance the migration and proliferation of BC cells by targeting the ETV7 and BATF2/PAI-1/ERK pathways. Our data suggest that plasma exosomal miR-361-3p has the potential to serve as a biomarker for predicting malignant progression in BC patients.

10. RAB31 in glioma‐derived endothelial cells promotes glioma cell invasion via extracellular vesicle‐mediated enrichment of MYO1C

Abstract: Extracellular vesicles (EV), important messengers in intercellular communication, can load and transport various bioactive components and participate in different biological processes. We previously isolated glioma human endothelial cells (GhECs) and found that GhECs, rather than normal human brain endothelial cells (NhECs), exhibit specific enrichment of MYO1C into EVs and promote the migration of glioma cells. In this study, we explored the mechanism by which MYO1C is secreted into EVs. We report that such secretion is dependent on RAB31, RAB27B, and FAS. When expression of RAB31 increases, MYO1C is enriched in secretory EVs. Finally, we identified an EV export mechanism for MYO1C that promotes glioma cell invasion and is dependent on RAB31 in GhECs. In summary, our data indicate that the knockdown of RAB31 can reduce enrichment of MYO1C in extracellular vesicles, thereby attenuating the promotion of glioma cell invasion by GhEC‐EVs.

Abstract: IntroductionNitrososphaeria, formerly known as Thaumarchaeota, constitute a diverse and widespread group of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) inhabiting ubiquitously in marine and terrestrial environments, playing a pivotal role in global nitrogen cycling. Despite their importance in Earth’s ecosystems, the cellular organization of AOA remains largely unexplored, leading to a significant unanswered question of how the machinery of these organisms underpins metabolic functions.MethodsIn this study, we combined spherical-chromatic-aberration-corrected cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to unveil the cellular organization and elemental composition of Nitrosopumilus maritimus SCM1, a representative member of marine Nitrososphaeria.Results and DiscussionOur tomograms show the native ultrastructural morphology of SCM1 and one to several dense storage granules in the cytoplasm. STEM-EDS analysis identifies two types of storage granules: one type is possibly composed of polyphosphate and the other polyhydroxyalkanoate. With precise measurements using cryo-ET, we observed low quantity and density of ribosomes in SCM1 cells, which are in alignment with the documented slow growth of AOA in laboratory cultures. Collectively, these findings provide visual evidence supporting the resilience of AOA in the vast oligotrophic marine environment.

12. Atmospheric nitrogen deposition affects forest plant and soil system carbon:nitrogen:phosphorus stoichiometric flexibility: A meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: Nitrogen (N) deposition affects forest stoichiometric flexibility through changing soil nutrient availability to influence plant uptake. However, the effect of N deposition on the flexibility of carbon (C), N, and phosphorus (P) in forest plant-soil-microbe systems remains unclear. Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis based on 751 pairs of observations to evaluate the responses of plant, soil and microbial biomass C, N and P nutrients and stoichiometry to N addition in different N intensity (0–50, 50–100, >100 kg⋅ha−1⋅year−1 of N), duration (0–5, >5 year), method (understory, canopy), and matter (ammonium N, nitrate N, organic N, mixed N). Results: N addition significantly increased plant N:P (leaf: 14.98%, root: 13.29%), plant C:P (leaf: 6.8%, root: 25.44%), soil N:P (13.94%), soil C:P (10.86%), microbial biomass N:P (23.58%), microbial biomass C:P (12.62%), but reduced plant C:N (leaf: 6.49%, root: 9.02%). Furthermore, plant C:N:P stoichiometry changed significantly under short-term N inputs, while soil and microorganisms changed drastically under high N addition. Canopy N addition primarily affected plant C:N:P stoichiometry through altering plant N content, while understory N inputs altered more by influencing soil C and P content. Organic N significantly influenced plant and soil C:N and C:P, while ammonia N changed plant N:P. Plant C:P and soil C:N were strongly correlated with mean annual precipitation (MAT), and the C:N:P stoichiometric flexibility in soil and plant under N addition connected with soil depth. Besides, N addition decoupled the correlations between soil microorganisms and the plant. Conclusions: N addition significantly increased the C:P and N:P in soil, plant, and microbial biomass, reducing plant C:N, and aggravated forest P limitations. Significantly, these impacts were contingent on climate types, soil layers, and N input forms. The findings enhance our comprehension of the plant-soil system nutrient cycling mechanisms in forest ecosystems and plant strategy responses to N deposition.

13. Carvacrol attenuated lipopolysaccharide-induced intestinal injury by down-regulating TLRs gene expression and regulating the gut microbiota in rabbit

Abstract: Abstract Carvacrol (CAR) is a plant extract that has been reported to enhance antioxidant activity in animals. However, the effect of CAR on the intestinal health of rabbits is poorly understood. Here, we investigated whether CAR exerts protective effects on the intestinal health of rabbits following lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge and whether these effects were mediated via the reduction of intestinal inflammation and the regulation of the intestinal flora. Intestinal damage was assessed in LPS-challenged rabbits treated or not with CAR. The serum levels of inflammatory factors were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Histopathological changes in the ileum and cecum were examined using hematoxylin and eosin staining. The relative gene expression levels of inflammatory factors and tight junction proteins in the rabbit cecum were determined by qRT-PCR. High-throughput sequencing analysis of the microbial 16S rRNA gene was performed using the Illumina NovaSeq Platform. The results showed that CAR can prevent intestinal inflammation and damage as well as mitigate gut dysbiosis in rabbits following LPS challenge. Our study provides a theoretical reference for the application of dietary CAR in rabbit production.

Abstract: BackgroundPhyseal bar resection has been used for partial growth arrest treatment for a decade while removing the bony bar minimally invasively and accurately is challenging. This research aims to illustrate a modified arthroscopically assisted surgery, by which all the procedure was under all-inside visualization, without the constant exchange between burring under fluoroscopy, followed by irrigation, suction, and arthroscopy of the canal.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed the patients who sustained physeal bar resection under direct all-inside visualization of the arthroscope during 2016–2021. Patients who underwent physeal bar resection with the aid of an arthroscope for identifying the physeal cartilage but not resecting and visualizing the physeal bar simultaneously were excluded from this study.ResultsIn total, nine patients with ten related joints were included in this study. All the patients were followed up for at least two years. The average following time was 28.5 ± 6.7 months. Eight patients with nine related joints had an improvement of angular deformity, averaging 8.3 ± 6.9 degrees, and one had a worsening of the angular deformity. All the patients had a leg length discrepancy improvement, while four patients still had LLD >1 cm. The surgery time was 3.1 ± 0.7 h. There were no postoperative fractures, infections, or intraoperative complications such as neurovascular injury.ConclusionsUsing clamps to form a closed osteocavity could make physeal bar resection under all-inside arthroscopic visualization feasible, which is minimally invasive, accurate, and safe.

Abstract: Abstract Self‐propelled nanomotors, which can autonomous propelled by harnessing others type of energy, have shown tremendous potential as drug delivery systems for cancer therapy. However, it remains challenging for nanomotors in tumor theranostics because of their structural complexity and deficient therapeutic model. Herein, glucose‐fueled enzymatic nanomotors (GC6@cPt ZIFs) are developed through encapsulation of glucose oxidase (GOx), catalase (CAT), and chlorin e6 (Ce6) using cisplatin‐skeletal zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (cPt ZIFs) for synergetic photochemotherapy. The GC6@cPt ZIFs nanomotors can produce O2 through enzymatic cascade reactions for propelling the self‐propulsion. Trans‐well chamber and multicellular tumor spheroids experiments demonstrate the deep penetration and high accumulation of GC6@cPt nanomotors. Importantly, the glucose‐fueled nanomotor can release the chemotherapeutic cPt and generate reactive oxygen species under laser irradiation, and simultaneously consume intratumoral over‐expressed glutathione. Mechanistically, such processes can inhibit cancer cell energy and destroy intratumoral redox balance to synergistically damage DNA and induce tumor cell apoptosis. Collectively, this work demonstrates that the self‐propelled prodrug‐skeleton nanomotors with oxidative stress activation can highlight a robust therapeutic capability of oxidants amplification and glutathione depletion to boost the synergetic cancer therapy efficiency.

Abstract: Abstract Background The preoperative diagnosis of cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules (ITNs) is very challenging. In this study, we aim to provide an integrated risk assessment for thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology to guide surgical decision-making, which includes results of blood tests, molecular tests, and repeat fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). Methods The study retrospectively included 265 ITNs between June 2019 and April 2022. According to our integrated risk assessment process that starts with blood testing, followed by supplementary DNA mutation detection on the first FNAB, and finally repeat FNAB, we divided the ITNs into high-risk and low-risk groups. Performance was evaluated with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and the consistency between the risk evaluation and histological results. Results Of the 265 ITNs, 87 were included in the risk assessment process. The risk assessment had a sensitivity of 84.1%, specificity of 83.3%, PPV of 95.1%, NPV of 57.7%, and AUC of 0.837. The nodules with consistent results between the risk groups and histological outcomes, which included malignant cases in the high-risk group and benign cases in the low-risk group, accounted for 83.9% of all risk-assessed nodules. Conclusions These data suggest that the integrated risk assessment might provide proper information for surgical decision-making in patients with ITNs.

Abstract: Human motion prediction is a popular method to predict future motion sequences based on past sequences, which is widely used in human-computer interaction. Space-time-separable graph Convolutional Network (STS-GCN) is a conventional mathematical model for human motion prediction. However, the uncertainty of human movements often leads to the problem of significant prediction error in the prediction results. This paper first proposed a Multi-scale STS-GCN (MSTS-GCN) model based on the conventional STS-GCN method to find the relevant factors that affect the prediction results. In our study, the constructed Multi-scale Temporal Convolutional Network (MTCN) decoder effectively reduced the human motion prediction error at specific time nodes. To expand the transmission and utilization performance in a larger receptive field, a Gated Recurrent Unit-TCN decoder was also designed. Finally, a new STS-GCN (NSTS-GCN) human motion prediction model was proposed, which realized the transmission and utilization of motion sequence features under a larger temporal perceptual field. To verify the effectiveness of NSTS-GCN, the Human3.6M dataset, AMASS, and 3DPW dataset were tested. The experimental results show that the MPJPE error of the proposed model for human joint prediction at each time node is reduced compared with the conventional STS-GCN model, and the mean reduction was achieved by 3.0mm. All the experimental results validated the effectiveness of the proposed NSTS-GCN model, which further improved the performance of human motion prediction.

Abstract: Abstract Purpose To evaluate the outcomes of distal femoral, proximal tibial, and distal tibial physeal bar resection combined with or without the Hemi-Epiphysiodesis procedure and provide a better understanding of the application of physeal bar resection combined with Hemi-Epiphysiodesis procedure in the treatment of physeal bar growth arrest. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the patients who suffered physeal bar and underwent physeal bar resection with or without the Hemi-Epiphysiodesis technique during 2010–2020. All were followed up for at least 2 years or to maturity. A modified mapping method was used to determine the area of a physeal bar by CT data. The aLDFA, aMPTA, aLDTA, MAD, and LLD were measured to assess the deformity of the lower limb. Results In total, 19 patients were included in this study. The average age was 8.9 years (range 4.4 to 13.3 years old). During the follow-up, 4 (21.1%) patients had an angular change 5° averaging 10.0° (range 5.3° to 23.2°), and 3 (15.8%) patients had improvement of the angular deformity averaging 16.8° (range 7.4° to 27.1°). Eleven patients (57.9%) had significant MAD improvement. After surgery, we found that 7 (36.8%) patients had an LLD change of 5 mm averaging 1.0 cm (range 0.7 to 1.3 cm), and 7 (36.8%) patients had increasing of LLD > 5 mm averaging 1.3 cm (range 0.5 to 2.5 cm). There were no postoperative fractures, infections, or intraoperative complications such as neurovascular injury. Conclusion Physeal bar resection combined with Hemi-epiphysiodesis is helpful for partial epiphysis growth arrest. Without statistically verifying, we still believe that patients with limited growth ability could benefit more from physeal bar resection combined with Hemi-epiphysiodesis.

Abstract: Abstract SARS-CoV-2 Omicron subvariants have demonstrated extensive evasion from monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) developed for clinical use, which raises an urgent need to develop new broad-spectrum mAbs. Here, we report the isolation and analysis of two anti-RBD neutralizing antibodies BA7208 and BA7125 from mice engineered to produce human antibodies. While BA7125 showed broadly neutralizing activity against all variants except the Omicron sublineages, BA7208 was potently neutralizing against all tested SARS-CoV-2 variants (including Omicron BA.1–BA.5) except Mu. By combining BA7208 and BA7125 through the knobs-into-holes technology, we generated a biparatopic antibody BA7208/7125 that was able to neutralize all tested circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants. Cryo-electron microscopy structure of these broad-spectrum antibodies in complex with trimeric Delta and Omicron spike indicated that the contact residues are highly conserved and had minimal interactions with mutational residues in RBD of current variants. In addition, we showed that administration of BA7208/7125 via the intraperitoneal, intranasal, or aerosol inhalation route showed potent therapeutic efficacy against Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 in hACE2-transgenic and wild-type mice and, separately, effective prophylaxis. BA7208/7125 thus has the potential to be an effective candidate as an intervention against COVID-19.

A High-Resolution Network (HRNet) can achieve effective estimation results as a classical human pose estimation method. However, the complex structure of the model is not conducive to deployment under limited computer resources. Therefore, an improved Efficient and Lightweight HRNet (EL-HRNet) model is proposed. In detail, point-wise and grouped convolutions were used to construct a lightweight residual module, replacing the original 3 × 3 module to reduce the parameters. To compensate for the information loss caused by the network’s lightweight nature, the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) is introduced after the new lightweight residual module to construct the Lightweight Attention Basicblock (LA-Basicblock) module to achieve high-precision human pose estimation. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed EL-HRNet, experiments were carried out using the COCO2017 and MPII datasets. The experimental results show that the EL-HRNet model requires only 5 million parameters and 2.0 GFlops calculations and achieves an AP score of 67.1% on the COCO2017 validation set. In addition, PCKh@0.5mean is 87.7% on the MPII validation set, and EL-HRNet shows a good balance between model complexity and human pose estimation accuracy.

Understanding its pathogenesis remains challenging, with current clinical treatment regimens often proving ineffective.MethodsIn this study, we established a mouse model of T2DM and employed 16s rDNA sequencing to detect changes in the species and structure of gut flora. Additionally, we used UPLC-Q-TOF-MS to identify changes in urinary metabolites of T2DM mice, analyzed differential metabolites and constructed differential metabolic pathways. Finally, we used Pearman correlation analysis to investigate the relationship between intestinal flora and differential metabolites in T2DM mice, aiming to elucidate the pathogenesis of T2DM and provide an experimental basis for its clinical treatment.ResultsOur findings revealed a reduction in both the species diversity and abundance of intestinal flora in T2DM mice, with significantly decreased levels of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and significantly increased levels of harmful bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori. Urinary metabolomics results identified 31 differential metabolites between T2DM and control mice, including Phosphatidylcholine, CDP-ethanolamine and Leukotriene A4, which may be closely associated with the glycerophospholipid and arachidonic acid pathways. Pearman correlation analysis showed a strong correlation between dopamine and gonadal, estradiol and gut microbiota, may be a novel direction underlying T2DM.ConclusionIn conclusion, our study suggests that alterations in gut microbiota and urinary metabolites are characteristic features of T2DM in mice. Furthermore, a strong correlation between dopamine, estradiol and gut microbiota, may be a novel direction underlying T2DM, the aim is to provide new ideas for clinical treatment and basic research.

Abstract: Abstract In order to make full use of crop waste stalk, corn-stalk cellulose (CSC) was extracted by acid–base method and used as modifier of epoxy resin (E51) to prepare the self-extracted corn-stalk cellulose/epoxy resin composites (CSCEC). Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG) analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), morphology analysis by scanning electron microscope (SEM), the mechanical properties by electronic universal testing machine and impact testing machine were used for characterization and analysis. The experimental results showed that when the CSC content was 20 wt%, the impact strength of the composite was 2.50 kJ/m2, which was 127.2% higher than that of pure epoxy resin. When the CSC content was 20 wt%, the Tg of epoxy resin obtained by DMA was the lowest, 167.4 °C, which decreased by 11.3 °C compared with that of pure epoxy resin. The SEM result showed that the fracture surface of the composite became obviously rough and had of obvious folds, which was a ductile fracture. These results indicated that the addition of CSC could toughen the epoxy resin.

Abstract: Background: Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is an uncommon congenital deformity and a special subtype of bone nonunion. The lower ability of osteogenic differentiation in CPT-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) could result in progression of CPT, and miR-30a could inhibit osteogenic differentiation. However, the role of miR-30a in CPT-derived MSCs remains unclear. Methods: The osteogenic differentiation of CPT-derived MSCs treated with the miR-30a inhibitor was tested by Alizarin Red S staining and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. The expression levels of protein and mRNA were assessed by Western blot or quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), respectively. The interplay between miR-30a and HOXD8 was investigated by a dual-luciferase reporter assay. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) was conducted to assess the binding relationship between HOXD8 and RUNX2 promoter. Results: CPT-derived MSCs showed a lower ability of osteogenic differentiation than normal MSCs. miR-30a increased in CPT-derived MSCs, and miR-30a downregulation promoted the osteogenic differentiation of CPT-derived MSCs. Meanwhile, HOXD8 is a direct target for miR-30a, and HOXD8 could transcriptionally activate RUNX2. In addition, miR-30a could inhibit the osteogenic differentiation of CPT-derived MSCs by negatively regulating HOXD8. Conclusion: miR-30a inhibits the osteogenic differentiation of CPT-derived MSCs by targeting HOXD8. Thus, this study might supply a novel strategy against CPT.

This work introduces reduced graphene oxide (RGO) to reinforce Cu foam for the purpose of improvement of the foam's mechanical and electromagnetic shielding properties. After the preparation stage of the electrodeposition and heat treatments, the RGO was observed to uniformly disperse in the Cu foam matrix and nano-sized Cu2O particles formed at the interface. This resulted in improved mechanical properties and electromagnetic shielding performance compared to the pure Cu foams. The primary shielding mechanism was deduced as absorption loss.

Abstract: Purpose: Tangzhiqing formula (TZQ) is a traditional Chinese medicine prescribed to treat lipid metabolism disorders, atherosclerosis, diabetes and diabetic cardiomyopathy. However, some challenges and hurdles remain. TZQ showed promising results in treating diabetes and hyperlipidaemia. However, its effect on and mechanism of action in hyperlipidaemia complicated with myocardial ischaemia (HL-MI) remain unknown. Methods: In this study, a network pharmacology-based strategy integrating target prediction was adopted to predict the targets of TZQ relevant to the treatment of HL-MI and to further explore the involved pharmacological mechanisms. Results: A total of 104 potential therapeutic targets were obtained, including MMP9, Bcl-2, and Bax, which may be related to the apoptosis and PI3K/AKT signalling pathways. Then, we confirmed these potential targets and pathways with animal experimentation. TZQ reduced lipid levels, increased the expression levels of Bcl-2, decreased Bax, caspase-3 and caspase-9 expression levels, and activated the PI3K/AKT signalling pathway. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study provides new insights into the protective mechanisms of TZQ against HL-MI through network pharmacology and pharmacological approaches.

Abstract: We present a study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow \pi^-\pi^0e^{+}\nu_{e}$ using an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.93~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The branching fraction of $D^0\to \rho(770)^-e^+\nu_e$ is measured to be $(1.439 \pm 0.033(\rm stat.) \pm 0.027(\rm syst.)) \times10^{-3}$, which is a factor 1.6 more precise than previous measurements. By performing an amplitude analysis, we measure the hadronic form-factor ratios of $D^0\to \rho(770)^-e^+\nu_e$ at $q^2=0$ assuming the single-pole-dominance parametrization: $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.548\pm0.079(\rm stat.)\pm0.041(\rm syst.)$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.823\pm0.056(\rm stat.)\pm0.026(\rm syst.)$., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: Solution-processed light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are appealing for their potential in the low-cost fabrication of large-area devices. However, the limited performance of solution-processed blue LEDs, particularly their short operation lifetime, is hindering their practical use in display technologies. Here, we demonstrate that trace water in device, previously considered detrimental to most solution-processed LEDs, dramatically enhances the performance of quantum-dot LEDs (QLEDs). This breakthrough stems from our comprehensive mechanism investigations into the positive ageing phenomenon, a long-standing puzzle in the QLED field. Our findings reveal that water passivation on the surface of electron-transport layers, which are composed of zinc-oxide-based nanoparticles, improves charge transport and enhances exciton radiative recombination during device operation. Combined with the advanced top-emitting architecture, our blue QLEDs achieve a high current efficiency of 35.5 cd A-1, a blue index (colour coordinate corrected current efficiency) of over 470 cd A-1 CIEy-1, and unprecedented stability, with an extrapolated T95 lifetime (at an initial brightness of 1,000 cd m-2) of 287 hours. Abstract: In the effective field theory, the massless dark photon $\gamma'$ can only couple with the Standard Model particle through operators of dimension higher than four, thereby offering a high sensitivity to the new physics energy scale. Using $7.9~\rm{fb^{-1}}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the effective flavor-changing neutral current coupling of $cu\gamma'$ in $D^0\to\omega\gamma'$ and $D^0\to\gamma\gamma'$ processes to search for the massless dark photon. No significant signals are observed, and the upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the massless dark photon branching fraction are set to be $1.1\times10^{-5}$ and $2.0\times10^{-6}$ for $D^0\to\omega\gamma'$ and $D^0\to\gamma\gamma'$, respectively. These results provide the most stringent constraint on the new physics energy scale associated with $cu\gamma'$ coupling in the world, with the new physics energy scale related parameter $|\mathbb{C}|^2+|\mathbb{C}_5|^2<8.2\times10^{-17}~\rm{GeV}^{-2}$ at the 90% confidence level, playing a unique role in the dark sector search with the charm sector., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: Using a data sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy 3.773~GeV, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the decay $D^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+}$. The absolute branching fraction of $D^{+} \to K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+}$ is measured to be $(2.97 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.05_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}$. The dominant intermediate process is $D^{+} \to K_{S}^{0}K^{*}(892)^{+}$, whose branching fraction is determined to be $(8.72 \pm 0.28_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.15_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-3}$, including all the $K^*(892)^+$ decays.

33. K-band LiNbO3 A3 Lamb-wave Resonators with Sub-wavelength Through-holes

Abstract: Addressing critical challenges in Lamb wave resonators, this paper presents the first validation of resonators incorporating sub-wavelength through-holes. Using the A3 mode resonator based on a LiNbO3 single-crystal thin film and operating in the K band as a prominent example, we demonstrate the advantages of the through-hole design. In the absence of additional processing steps, and while maintaining device performance--including operating frequency, electromechanical coupling coefficient, and quality factor--without introducing extra spurious modes, this approach effectively reduces the ineffective suspension area of the piezoelectric LN film, potentially enhancing mechanical and thermal stability. It also standardizes etching distances (and times) across various Lamb wave resonators on a single wafer, facilitating the development of Lamb wave filters. The versatility of the through-hole technique, with relaxed constraints on hole geometry and arrangement, further highlights its significance. Abstract: Axion-like particles (ALPs) and dark photons (DPs) are viable dark matter particle candidates. We have searched for possible ALP/DP signals in the PandaX-4T liquid xenon detector using 94.8 days of data. A binned likelihood fit is constructed to search for possible mono-energetic peaks induced by the absorption processes between ALPs/DPs and atomic electrons of xenon. A detailed temporal model of decays associated with xenon isotopes is introduced to constrain the number of background events. No signal excess over background expectations is observed, and we have established the most stringent exclusion limits for most ALP/DP masses ranging from 150 keV/$c^2$ to 1 MeV/$c^2$.

Abstract: Using $e^+e^-$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at BEPCII corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 30 $\rm fb^{-1}$, we measure Born cross sections and effective form factors for the process $e^+e^-\to\Xi^0\bar{\Xi}^0$ at forty-five center-of-mass energies between 3.51 and 4.95 GeV. The dressed cross section is fitted, assuming a power-law function plus a charmonium(-like) state, i.e., $\psi(3770)$, $\psi(4040)$, $\psi(4160)$, $\psi(4230)$, $\psi(4360)$, $\psi(4415)$ or $\psi(4660)$. No significant charmonium(-like) state decaying into $\Xi^0\bar\Xi^0$ is observed. Upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the product of the branching fraction and the electronic partial width are provided for each decay. In addition, ratios of the Born cross sections and the effective form factors for $e^+e^-\to\Xi^0\bar{\Xi}^0$ and $e^+e^-\to\Xi^-\bar{\Xi}^+$ are also presented to test isospin symmetry and the vector meson dominance model., Comment: 22 pages, 2 tables, 4 figures

Abstract: Using $(2712.4 \pm 14.3) \times 10^6~\psi$(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the hadronic transition $h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ via $\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c$. No significant signal is observed. We set the most stringent upper limits to date on the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c)\times\mathcal{B}(h_c\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level, which are determined to be $6.7\times 10^{-7}$ and $9.4 \times10^{-4}$, respectively.

37. BTMuda: A Bi-level Multi-source unsupervised domain adaptation framework for breast cancer diagnosis

Abstract: Deep learning has revolutionized the early detection of breast cancer, resulting in a significant decrease in mortality rates. However, difficulties in obtaining annotations and huge variations in distribution between training sets and real scenes have limited their clinical applications. To address these limitations, unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) methods have been used to transfer knowledge from one labeled source domain to the unlabeled target domain, yet these approaches suffer from severe domain shift issues and often ignore the potential benefits of leveraging multiple relevant sources in practical applications. To address these limitations, in this work, we construct a Three-Branch Mixed extractor and propose a Bi-level Multi-source unsupervised domain adaptation method called BTMuda for breast cancer diagnosis. Our method addresses the problems of domain shift by dividing domain shift issues into two levels: intra-domain and inter-domain. To reduce the intra-domain shift, we jointly train a CNN and a Transformer as two paths of a domain mixed feature extractor to obtain robust representations rich in both low-level local and high-level global information. As for the inter-domain shift, we redesign the Transformer delicately to a three-branch architecture with cross-attention and distillation, which learns domain-invariant representations from multiple domains. Besides, we introduce two alignment modules - one for feature alignment and one for classifier alignment - to improve the alignment process. Extensive experiments conducted on three public mammographic datasets demonstrate that our BTMuda outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract: In this Letter, a systematic study of the weak radiative hyperon decay $\Xi^{0}\to\Lambda\gamma$ at an electron-positron collider using entangled $\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ pair events is presented. The absolute branching fraction for this decay has been measured for the first time, and is $\left(1.347 \pm 0.066_{\mathrm stat.}\pm0.054_{\mathrm syst.}\right)\times 10^{-3}$. The decay asymmetry parameter, which characterizes the effect of parity violation in the decay, is determined to be $-0.741 \pm 0.062_{\mathrm stat.}\pm 0.019_{\mathrm syst.}$. The obtained results are consistent with the world average values within the uncertainties, offering valuable insights into the underlying mechanism governing the weak radiative hyperon decays. The charge conjugation parity ($CP$) symmetries of branching fraction and decay asymmetry parameter in the decay are also studied. Abstract: Measurements of the strong-phase difference between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ are performed in bins of phase space. The study exploits a sample of quantum-correlated $D\bar{D}$ mesons collected by the BESIII experiment in $e^+e^-$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93~fb$^{-1}$. Here, $D$ denotes a neutral charm meson in a superposition of flavor eigenstates. The reported results are valuable for measurements of the $C\!P$-violating phase $\gamma$ (also denoted $\phi_3$) in $B^\pm \to DK^\pm$, $D \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, and the binning schemes are designed to provide good statistical sensitivity to this parameter. The expected uncertainty on $\gamma$ arising from the precision of the strong-phase measurements, when applied to very large samples of $B$-meson decays, is around $1.5^\circ$ or $2^\circ$, depending on the binning scheme. The binned strong-phase parameters are combined to give a value of $F_+^{4\pi} = 0.746 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.004$ for the $C\!P$-even fraction of $D^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, which is around 30\% more precise than the previous best measurement of this quantity.

40. OpenFGL: A Comprehensive Benchmarks for Federated Graph Learning

Abstract: Federated graph learning (FGL) has emerged as a promising distributed training paradigm for graph neural networks across multiple local systems without direct data sharing. This approach is particularly beneficial in privacy-sensitive scenarios and offers a new perspective on addressing scalability challenges in large-scale graph learning. Despite the proliferation of FGL, the diverse motivations from practical applications, spanning various research backgrounds and experimental settings, pose a significant challenge to fair evaluation. To fill this gap, we propose OpenFGL, a unified benchmark designed for the primary FGL scenarios: Graph-FL and Subgraph-FL. Specifically, OpenFGL includes 38 graph datasets from 16 application domains, 8 federated data simulation strategies that emphasize graph properties, and 5 graph-based downstream tasks. Additionally, it offers 18 recently proposed SOTA FGL algorithms through a user-friendly API, enabling a thorough comparison and comprehensive evaluation of their effectiveness, robustness, and efficiency. Abstract: Facial expression recognition (FER) aims to analyze emotional states from static images and dynamic sequences, which is pivotal in enhancing anthropomorphic communication among humans, robots, and digital avatars by leveraging AI technologies. As the FER field evolves from controlled laboratory environments to more complex in-the-wild scenarios, advanced methods have been rapidly developed and new challenges and apporaches are encounted, which are not well addressed in existing reviews of FER. This paper offers a comprehensive survey of both image-based static FER (SFER) and video-based dynamic FER (DFER) methods, analyzing from model-oriented development to challenge-focused categorization. We begin with a critical comparison of recent reviews, an introduction to common datasets and evaluation criteria, and an in-depth workflow on FER to establish a robust research foundation. We then systematically review representative approaches addressing eight main challenges in SFER (such as expression disturbance, uncertainties, compound emotions, and cross-domain inconsistency) as well as seven main challenges in DFER (such as key frame sampling, expression intensity variations, and cross-modal alignment). Additionally, we analyze recent advancements, benchmark performances, major applications, and ethical considerations. 43. Alleviating Class Imbalance in Semi-supervised Multi-organ Segmentation via Balanced Subclass Regularization

Abstract: Semi-supervised learning (SSL) has shown notable potential in relieving the heavy demand of dense prediction tasks on large-scale well-annotated datasets, especially for the challenging multi-organ segmentation (MoS). However, the prevailing class-imbalance problem in MoS, caused by the substantial variations in organ size, exacerbates the learning difficulty of the SSL network. To alleviate this issue, we present a two-phase semi-supervised network (BSR-Net) with balanced subclass regularization for MoS. Concretely, in Phase I, we introduce a class-balanced subclass generation strategy based on balanced clustering to effectively generate multiple balanced subclasses from original biased ones according to their pixel proportions. Then, in Phase II, we design an auxiliary subclass segmentation (SCS) task within the multi-task framework of the main MoS task. The SCS task contributes a balanced subclass regularization to the main MoS task and transfers unbiased knowledge to the MoS network, thus alleviating the influence of the class-imbalance problem. Extensive experiments conducted on two publicly available datasets, i.e., the MICCAI FLARE 2022 dataset and the WORD dataset, verify the superior performance of our method compared with other methods.

44. Mapping Hydrogen Evolution Activity Trends of V-based A15 Superconducting Alloys

Abstract: Exploring high-efficiency and low-cost electrocatalysts is valuable for water-splitting technologies. Recently, Si-group compounds have attracted increasing attention in electrocatalysis, considering the abundant Si-group elements on Earth. However, Si-group compounds for HER electrocatalysis have not been systematically studied. In this study, we unveil the activity trends of non-noble metal catalyst A15-type V3M (i.e., V3Si, V3Ge, and V3Sn) superconductors and show that V3Si is the most efficient HER catalyst because of the high electronic conductivity and suitable d-band center. Among them, the V3Si only requires 33.4 mV to reach 10 mA cm-2, and only 57.6 mV and 114.6 mV are required to attain a high current density of 100 mA cm-2 and 500 mA cm-2, respectively. These low overpotentials are close to the 34.3 mV at 10 mA cm-2 of state-of-art Pt/C (20 %) but superior to 168.5 mV of Pt/C (20 %) at 100 mA cm-2. Furthermore, the V3Si illustrates exceptional durability with no obvious decay in the 120 h at the different current densities (i.e., 10 - 250 mA cm-2). The excellent HER activity of V3Si alloy can be ascribed to the synergies of superior electronic conductivity and suitable d-band center. Moreover, DFT calculations reveal that the absolute hydrogen adsorption Gibbs free energy is decreased after introducing the V to Si. 45. Better Debugging: Combining Static Analysis and LLMs for Explainable Crashing Fault Localization

Abstract: Nowadays, many applications do not exist independently but rely on various frameworks or libraries. The frequent evolution and the complex implementation of framework APIs induce many unexpected post-release crashes. Starting from the crash stack traces, existing approaches either perform direct call graph (CG) tracing or construct datasets with similar crash-fixing records to locate buggy methods. However, these approaches are limited by the completeness of CG or dependent on historical fixing records. Moreover, they fail to explain the buggy candidates by revealing their relationship with the crashing point. To fill the gap, we propose an explainable crashing fault localization approach by combining static analysis and LLM techniques. Our primary insight is that understanding the semantics of exception-throwing statements in the framework code can help find and apprehend the buggy methods in the app code. Based on this idea, first, we design the exception-thrown summary (ETS) that describes the key elements related to each framework-specific exception and extract ETSs by performing static analysis. Then we make data-tracking of its key elements to identify and sort buggy candidates for the given crash. After that, we introduce LLMs to improve the explainability of the localization results. To construct effective LLM prompts, we design the candidate information summary (CIS) that describes multiple types of explanation-related contexts and then extract CISs via static analysis. We apply our approach to one typical scenario, i.e., locating Android framework-specific crashing faults, and implement a tool CrashTracker. For fault localization, it exhibited an overall MRR value of 0.91 in precision. For fault explanation, compared to the naive one produced by static analysis only, the LLM-powered explanation achieved a 67.04% improvement in users' satisfaction score.

46. Anteumbler: Non-Invasive Antenna Orientation Error Measurement for WiFi APs

Abstract: The performance of WiFi-based localization systems is affected by the spatial accuracy of WiFi AP. Compared with the imprecision of AP location and antenna separation, the imprecision of AP's or antenna's orientation is more important in real scenarios, including AP rotation and antenna irregular tilt. In this paper, we propose Anteumbler that non-invasively, accurately and efficiently measures the orientation of each antenna in physical space. Based on the fact that the received power is maximized when a Tx-Rx antenna pair is perfectly aligned, we construct a spatial angle model that can obtain the antennas' orientations without prior knowledge. However, the sampling points of traversing the spatial angle need to cover the entire space. We use the orthogonality of antenna directivity and polarization and adopt an iterative algorithm to reduce the sampling points by hundreds of times, which greatly improves the efficiency. To achieve the required antenna orientation accuracy, we eliminate the influence of propagation distance using a dual plane intersection model and filter out ambient noise. Our real-world experiments with six antenna types, two antenna layouts and two antenna separations show that Anteumbler achieves median errors below 6 degree for both elevation and azimuth angles, and is robust to NLoS and dynamic environments. Last but not least, for the reverse localization system, we deploy Anteumbler over LocAP and reduce the antenna separation error by 10 mm, while for the user localization system, we deploy Anteumbler over SpotFi and reduce the user localization error by more than 1 m.

Abstract: Using $(10087\pm44)\times10^6J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we search for the rare decay $J/\psi \to \gamma D^0+c.c.$ for the first time. No obvious signal is observed and the upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be ${\cal B}(J/\psi \to \gamma D^{0}+c.c.)< 9.1 \times 10^{-8}$ at 90\% confidence level.

Abstract: New particles beyond the Standard Model of particle physics, such as axions, can be effectively searched through their interactions with electrons. We use the large liquid xenon detector PandaX-4T to search for novel electronic recoil signals induced by solar axions, neutrinos with anomalous magnetic moment, axion-like particles, dark photons, and light fermionic dark matter. A detailed background model is established with the latest datasets with 1.54 $\rm tonne \cdot year$ exposure. No significant excess above the background has been observed, and we have obtained competitive constraints for axion couplings, neutrino magnetic moment, and fermionic dark matter interactions.

49. Realization of Topology-controlled Photonic Cavities in a Valley Photonic Crystal

Abstract: We report an experimental realization of a new type of topology-controlled photonic cavities in valley photonic crystals by adopting judiciously oriented mirrors to localize the valley-polarized edge states along their propagation path. By using microwave frequency- and time-domain measurements, we directly observe the strong confinement of electromagnetic energy at the mirror surface due to the extended time delay required for the valley index flipping. Moreover, we experimentally demonstrate that both the degree of energy localization and quality factors of the topology-controlled photonic cavities are determined by the valley-flipping time which is controlled by the topology of the mirror. These results extend and complement the current design paradigm of topological photonic cavities.

Abstract: Using $(2712\pm 14)$ $\times$ 10$^{6}$ $\psi(2S)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the decays $\eta_{c}(2S)\to\omega\omega$ and $\eta_{c}(2S)\to\omega\phi$ via the process $\psi(2S)\to\gamma\eta_{c}(2S)$. Evidence of $\eta_{c}(2S)\to\omega\omega$ is found with a statistical significance of $3.2\sigma$. The branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\eta_{c}(2S)\to\omega\omega)=(5.65\pm3.77(\rm stat.)\pm5.32(\rm syst.))\times10^{-4}$. No statistically significant signal is observed for the decay $\eta_{c}(2S)\to\omega\phi$. The upper limit of the branching fraction at the 90\% confidence level is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\psi(2S)\to\gamma\eta_{c}(2S),\eta_{c}(2S)\to\omega\phi)<2.24\times 10^{-7}$. We also update the branching fractions of $\chi_{cJ}\to \omega\omega$ and $\chi_{cJ}\to\omega\phi$ decays via the $\psi(2S)\to\gamma\chi_{cJ}$ transition. The branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to\omega\omega)=(10.63\pm0.11\pm0.46)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to\omega\omega)=(6.39\pm0.07\pm0.29)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to\omega\omega)=(8.50\pm0.08\pm0.38)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to\omega\phi)=(1.18\pm0.03\pm0.05)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to\omega\phi)=(2.03\pm0.15\pm0.12)\times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to\omega\phi)=(9.37\pm1.07\pm0.59)\times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.
