Abstract: Recent observations of the Galactic component of the high-energy neutrino flux, together with the detection of the diffuse Galactic gamma-ray emission up to sub-PeV energies, open new possibilities to study the acceleration and propagation of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. At the same time, both large non-astrophysical backgrounds at TeV energies and scarcity of neutrino events in the sub-PeV band currently limit these analyses. Here we use the sample of cascade events with estimated neutrino energies above 200 TeV, detected by the partially deployed Baikal Gigaton Volume Detector (GVD) in six years of operation, to test the continuation of the Galactic neutrino spectrum to sub-PeV energies. We find that the distribution of the arrival directions of Baikal-GVD cascades above 200 TeV in the sky suggests an excess of neutrinos from low Galactic latitudes. We find the excess above 200 TeV also in the most recent IceCube public data sets, both of cascades and tracks. The significant (3.6 sigma in the combined analysis) flux of Galactic neutrinos above 200 TeV challenges often-used templates for neutrino search based on cosmic-ray simulations., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, revtex 4.2

Abstract: Using $(27.12\pm0.14) \times 10^{8}$ $\psi(2S)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII, we search for the decay $\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}$ via the process $\psi(2S)\to \gamma\eta_c(2S)$, and only find a signal with a significance of $1.7\,\sigma$. The upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\psi(2S)\to \gamma\eta_c(2S))\times \mathcal{B}(\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p})<2.4\times 10^{-7}$. The branching fractions of $\chi_{cJ}\to p\bar{p}~(J=0,1,2)$ are also measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c0}\to p\bar{p})=(2.51\pm0.02\pm0.08)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to p\bar{p})=(8.16\pm0.09\pm0.25)\times 10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c2}\to p\bar{p})=(8.33\pm0.09\pm0.22)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract: The composition of rocky planets is strongly driven by the primordial materials in the protoplanetary disk, which can be inferred from the abundances of the host star. Understanding this compositional link is crucial for characterizing exoplanets. We aim to investigate the relationship between the compositions of low-mass planets and their host stars. We determined the primordial compositions of host stars using high-precision present-day stellar abundances and stellar evolutionary models. These primordial abundances were then input into a stoichiometric model to estimate the composition of planet-building blocks. Additionally, we employed a three-component planetary interior model (core, mantle, water in different phases) to estimate planetary compositions based only on their radius and mass. We found that although stellar abundances vary over time, relevant abundance ratios like Fe/Mg remain relatively constant during the main sequence evolution for low temperature stars. A strong correlation is found between the iron-to-silicate mass fraction of protoplanetary disks and planets, while no significant correlation was observed for water mass fractions. The Fe/Mg ratio varies significantly between planets and their stars, indicating substantial disk-driven compositional diversity, and this ratio also correlates with planetary radius. While stellar abundances, as a proxy of the composition of protoplanetary disk, provide a baseline for planetary composition, significant deviations arise due to complex disk processes, challenging the assumption of a direct, one-to-one elemental relationship between stars and their planets., Comment: Accepted by A&A

Abstract: Gamma rays consist of high-energy photons that selectively interact with nuclei, induce and mediate nuclear reactions and elementary particle interactions, and exceed x-rays in penetrating power and thus are indispensable for analysis and modification of dense or compressed object interior. Yet, the available gamma sources lack power and brightness which, if available, would revolutionize science and technology. The predicted laser-driven Gamma Flash (GF) would be the highest-power and the brightest terrestrial gamma source with a 30-40% laser-to-gamma energy conversion. It is based on inverse Compton scattering in a laser-solid interaction at irradiance typically above $10^{23}W/cm^2$. GF is one of the motivating goals for the most advanced laser facilities. However, till now GF remains overshadowed by simultaneously generated low-brightness Bremsstrahlung. Here we experimentally differentiate these two mechanisms and demonstrate a GF dominant regime producing several times the number of Bremsstrahlung photons. We found steep GF yield growth with the laser power and irradiance. Simulations revealed a Terawatt GF with nanometre source and an attosecond pulse train with a record brightness of $~10^{22}photons/mm^2mrad^2s0.1\%BW$ at up to tens of MeV. The small source size and high brightness paves the way towards spatially coherent gamma rays. At high photon energies, our regime is comparable in brightness to astrophysical Gamma Ray Bursts. We anticipate that the gamma ray source based on our findings will facilitate a breakthrough in research on future inertial fusion energy by enabling high-spatial-resolution time-resolved radiography of fuel mixing instabilities in extremely compressed targets. Such a new compact bright ultrafast gamma source could facilitate significant advances in time-resolved nuclear physics, homeland security, and nuclear waste management and non-proliferation., Comment: 36 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: Using $(2712.4 \pm 14.3) \times 10^6~\psi$(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the hadronic transition $h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ via $\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c$. No significant signal is observed. We set the most stringent upper limits to date on the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c)\times\mathcal{B}(h_c\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level, which are determined to be $6.7\times 10^{-7}$ and $9.4 \times10^{-4}$, respectively.

Abstract: Using $(10087\pm44)\times10^6J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we search for the rare decay $J/\psi \to \gamma D^0+c.c.$ for the first time. No obvious signal is observed and the upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be ${\cal B}(J/\psi \to \gamma D^{0}+c.c.)< 9.1 \times 10^{-8}$ at 90\% confidence level.

Abstract: How to make a material anti-reflective without changing its high refraction index? Achieving anti-reflection in high-refractive-index materials poses challenges due to their high reflectivity (Fresnel equations). Based on theory with new boundary conditions, we propose modifying surface properties on a nanoscale to tackle this. Our study on weakly rough opaque surfaces reveals significant changes in specular and diffuse scattering, predicting anti-reflection where roughness matches light penetration depth for the first time. Experimental validation on nano-roughened Si films (at wavelengths 300-400 nm) supports our findings. Abstract: Nowadays it is possible to determine the type of gas with sufficient accuracy when its concentration is less than {10}^{-6} (in units of ppm) fractions using spectroscopic methods (optical, radio engineering, acoustic). Along with this, the value of permissible concentrations of explosive, toxic, harmful to technology and ecology gases is practically important. Known physical experimental studies indicate only a linear dependence of the response of a laser gas sensor at ppm\gtrsim{10}^3. The research methods for ppm\lesssim{10}^3 are based on the processes of combustion, microexplosion, structural and phase transformations and are not always applicable in real practical conditions. The work is devoted to the analysis of experimentally obtained fluctuations caused by a laser beam in a gas in a photodiode (signal receiver) due to its influence not only at the atomic level, but also on the scale of clusters of nanoparticle molecules. The gas concentration is estimated by the fluctuation-dissipation ratio. It is shown that the signal correlator is saturated to a constant value when the quantum (laser photon energy) and thermal (nanoparticle temperature) factors are comparable with an increase in the concentration of the target gas. The critical values of the saturation concentration are determined by the equality of these two factors.

Abstract: The Spin Physics Detector collaboration proposes to install a universal detector in the second interaction point of the NICA collider under construction (JINR, Dubna) to study the spin structure of the proton and deuteron and other spin-related phenomena using a unique possibility to operate with polarized proton and deuteron beams at a collision energy up to 27 GeV and a luminosity up to $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. As the main goal, the experiment aims to provide access to the gluon TMD PDFs in the proton and deuteron, as well as the gluon transversity distribution and tensor PDFs in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries using different complementary probes such as charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. Other polarized and unpolarized physics is possible, especially at the first stage of NICA operation with reduced luminosity and collision energy of the proton and ion beams. This document is dedicated exclusively to technical issues of the SPD setup construction.

10. Long Duration Energy Storage Using Hydrogen in Metal–Organic Frameworks: Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract: Materials-based H2 storage plays a critical role in facilitating H2 as a low-carbon energy carrier, but there remains limited guidance on the technical performance necessary for specific applications. Metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbents have shown potential in power applications, but need to demonstrate economic promises against incumbent compressed H2 storage. Herein, we evaluate the potential impact of material properties, charge/discharge patterns, and propose targets for MOFs' deployment in long-duration energy storage applications including backup, load optimization, and hybrid power. We find that state-of-the-art MOF could outperform cryogenic storage and 350 bar compressed storage in applications requiring ≤8 cycles per year, but need ≥5 g/L increase in uptake to be cost-competitive for applications that require ≥30 cycles per year. Existing challenges include manufacturing at scale and quantifying the economic value of lower-pressure storage. Lastly, future research needs are identified including integrating thermodynamic effects and degradation mechanisms.

11. Spin-orbit torque-assisted detection of the canted phase of magnetization in a CoTb-based ferrimagnet

Abstract: The utilization of ferrimagnets in spintronic applications purportedly offers the potential for high-speed and energy-efficient switching of magnetic states, coupled with their notable stability. This collection of characteristics is commonly observed in ferrimagnetic materials that are in close proximity to states of magnetic or angular momentum compensation. This is owing to the presence of two antiparallel ordered magnetic sublattices that exhibit differing responses to variations in temperature or composition. In the vicinity of the magnetic compensation state, an external field has the capacity to disrupt the collinearity between the sublattices, resulting in the codirectionality of the magnetic projections. The existence of the canted phase has been extensively described theoretically, but its experimental investigation remains limited. Here, a violation of antiferromagnetic ordering is detected through a change in the direction of the effective field induced by the spin-orbital torque, without altering the dominant characteristics of the ferrimagnetic structure. This effect is observed both during external heating of the sample and as a consequence of Joule heating with an increase in the transmitted current. In the examined structure of W/Co70Tb30/Ru, the canted phase region is observed at approximately room temperature and at external fields on the order of 0.1 T. Through macrospin modeling and analytical explanations, a correlation between anisotropy, interlattice exchange interaction, and the presence of the canted phase region is established.

12. Interfacial spin-orbit coupling driven enhancement of superconductivity by parallel magnetic field

Abstract: It is commonly believed that time reversal symmetry breaking perturbations such as magnetic field or scattering on magnetic impurities destruct superconductivity and suppress the critical temperature of the superconducting phase transition. However, in the recent experimental studies significant enhancement of superconducting critical temperature by parallel magnetic field was found for several thin superconducting systems [H.J. Gardner, et al., Nature Physics {\bf 7}, 895 (2011); T. Asaba, et al., Scientific Reports {\bf 8}, 1 (2018) ]. Here we present a possible explanation of the observed phenomenon showing that combination of interfacial spin-orbit interaction and external magnetic field can cause the increase of the superconducting critical temperature of thin superconducting film in wide range of magnetic fields. We use the Ginzburg-Landau formalism taking into account Lifshitz invariant originated from Rashba spin-orbit interaction, which is also responsible for the superconducting diode effect. We also calculate the modification of the Little-Parks oscillations of the critical temperature of hollow superconducting cylinder at the presence of Rashba interfacial spin-orbit interaction.

Abstract: The totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with generalized update is a version of the discrete time totally asymmetric exclusion process with an additional inter-particle interaction that controls the degree of particle clustering. Though the model was shown to be integrable on the ring and on the infinite lattice, on the open chain it was studied mainly numerically, while no analytic results existed even for its phase diagram. In this paper we introduce new boundary conditions associated with the infinite translation invariant stationary states of the model, which allow us to obtain the exact phase diagram analytically. Abstract: The determination of planetary densities from the masses derived with the radial velocity (RV) and transit-timing variation (TTV) methods reveals discrepancies. Specifically, planets detected through RV exhibit higher densities than those detected through TTV, even though their radii are similar. We explored the possibility that the discrepant mass/densities in the TTV and RV populations might be linked to the properties of the environments in which these planets are formed. For the largest currently available sample of FGK-type stars hosting low-mass TTV and RV planets, we determined the host star abundances. Then, by employing a simple stoichiometric model, we used these abundances to estimate the iron-to-silicate mass fraction ($f_{iron}$) and the water-mass fraction ($w_{f}$) of the protoplanetary disks. We also calculated the kinematic properties of the host stars. We observed an indication that the hosts of TTV planets have slightly higher $f_{iron}$ and lower $w_{f}$ values than their RV counterparts. This suggests that TTV planets (without considering their atmospheres) are denser than RV planets on average, which implies that larger atmospheres on TTV planets are required to account for their overall lower densities. However, we also note differences in the properties of the planets, such as their orbital periods, and variations in the quality of the spectroscopic data, which may have an impact on these results. Exploring the TTV-RV mass and/or density discrepancy through a chemical analysis of the host star holds promise for future research, particularly with larger sample sizes and higher-quality data. 41. High-Capacity, Cooperative CO2 Capture in a Diamine-Appended Metal–Organic Framework through a Combined Chemisorptive and Physisorptive Mechanism

Abstract: Diamine-appended Mg2(dobpdc) (dobpdc4- = 4,4'-dioxidobiphenyl-3,3'-dicarboxylate) metal-organic frameworks are promising candidates for carbon capture that exhibit exceptional selectivities and high capacities for CO2. To date, CO2 uptake in these materials has been shown to occur predominantly via a chemisorption mechanism involving CO2 insertion at the amine-appended metal sites, a mechanism that limits the capacity of the material to ∼1 equiv of CO2 per diamine. Herein, we report a new framework, pip2-Mg2(dobpdc) (pip2 = 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperidine), that exhibits two-step CO2 uptake and achieves an unusually high CO2 capacity approaching 1.5 CO2 per diamine at saturation. Analysis of variable-pressure CO2 uptake in the material using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) reveals that pip2-Mg2(dobpdc) captures CO2 via an unprecedented mechanism involving the initial insertion of CO2 to form ammonium carbamate chains at half of the sites in the material, followed by tandem cooperative chemisorption and physisorption. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis, supported by van der Waals-corrected density functional theory, reveals that physisorbed CO2 occupies a pocket formed by adjacent ammonium carbamate chains and the linker. Based on breakthrough and extended cycling experiments, pip2-Mg2(dobpdc) exhibits exceptional performance for CO2 capture under conditions relevant to the separation of CO2 from landfill gas. More broadly, these results highlight new opportunities for the fundamental design of diamine-Mg2(dobpdc) materials with even higher capacities than those predicted based on CO2 chemisorption alone.
