Abstract We consider foraging behaviors in a two-dimensional continuum space and show that a cooperative chasing strategy can emerge in a social dilemma. Predators can use two different chasing strategies: A direct chasing strategy (DCS) and a group chasing strategy (GCS). The DCS is a selfish strategy with which a chaser moves straight toward the nearest prey, and the GCS is a cooperative strategy in the sense that the chaser chooses the chasing direction for the group at a cost of its own speed. A prey flees away from the nearest hazard, either a chaser or the boundary, within its recognition range. We check the capturing activities of each strategy and find a social dilemma between the two strategies because the GCS is more efficient for the group whereas the DCS is better individually. Using a series of numerical simulations, we further show that the cooperative strategy can proliferate when a learning process of nearby successful strategies is introduced.

Objective: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a rare kind of neoplasm at the gastrointestinal tract. There are few studies regarding the comparison of gastric and small bowel GIST in Korea. We aimed to analyze clinical characteristics and outcomes between gastric and small bowel GIST after curative resection. Methods: Between May 2005 and Dec 2017, 165 patients who underwent curative resection for gastric GIST (n = 115) and small bowel GIST (n = 50) were retrieved from a retrospective database. Propofol is widely used to sedate agitated patients in intensive care units. However, it can cause a rare but fatal complication, propofol-related infusion syndrome (PRIS). The pathophysiology of PRIS is not clear, and there is no definitive diagnosis and treatment. We report a successfully treated case of PRIS in a critically ill patient receiving low-dose propofol infusion. A 59-year-old male patient complaining of sudden chest pain repeatedly collapsed in an ambulance and the emergency room, and veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was delivered. He was diagnosed with a total occluded left anterior descending coronary artery in coronary angiography. On day 20, he showed arrhythmia, increased creatinine kinase (CK), and increased CK-MB and troponin I, accompanied by unstable hemodynamic status despite high-dose vasopressors. He was administered propofol for 20 days at an average dose of 1.3 mg/kg/hr owing to issues with agitation and ventilator synchrony. We strongly suspected PRIS and immediately discontinued propofol infusion, and he was successfully treated with aggressive supportive care. PRIS can occur in patients administered propofol for a prolonged period at low doses. Thus, clinicians should use propofol with caution for PRIS and change to alternative sedatives for long-term sedation.

Background In patients with severe trauma, the diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI) is important because it is a predictive factor for poor prognosis and can affect patient care. The diagnosis and staging of AKI are based on change in serum creatinine (SCr) levels from baseline. However, baseline creatinine levels in patients with traumatic injuries are often unknown, making the diagnosis of AKI in trauma patients difficult. This study aimed to enhance the accuracy of AKI diagnosis in trauma patients by presenting an appropriate reference creatinine estimate (RCE). Methods We reviewed adult patients with severe trauma requiring intensive care unit admission between 2015 and 2019 (n=3,228) at a single regional trauma center in South Korea. AKI was diagnosed based on the current guideline published by the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes organization. AKI was determined using the following RCEs: estimated SCr75-modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD), trauma MDRD (TMDRD), admission creatinine level, and first-day creatinine nadir. We assessed inclusivity, prognostic ability, and incrementality using the different RCEs. Results The incidence of AKI varied from 15% to 46% according to the RCE used. Abstract Objectives In this study, we explain the role of enhancing the stability and homeostasis of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) by proposing the average heart rate sound resonance (aHRSR), a sound stimulation to prevent imbalance of ANS due to dynamic movement. The effect of aHRSR on ANS was analyzed through the time and frequency domain of heart rate variability (HRV) using the photoplethysmogram data (PPG) of 22 participants (DUIRB‐202109‐12). Method When the subjects performed dynamic movements that could cause changes in the ANS, HRV indicators using PPG data for 5 min before and after the movements were analyzed according to the presence or absence of aHRSR. The standard deviation of the NN intervals (SDNN), the square root of the mean squared differences of the NN intervals (RMSSD), low‐frequency band (LF), and high‐frequency band (HF), which represent sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve activity, were used as indicators, where SNDD and LF represent total ANS and sympathetic activity, while RMSSD and HF represent parasympathetic activity. Acrylate polymer is widely used to manufacture display films as an adhesive. Improper disposal of acrylate polymer-containing display film waste (a kind of E-waste) may cause serious environmental problems. As an effort to develop a display film waste treatment strategy, this study applied a solvent-based method to recover acrylate polymer from display film waste. The solubility of acrylate polymer (e.g. poly(tert -butyl acrylate)) in 18 different organic solvents was calculated using Hansen solubility parameters. As a result, 2-butanol and methyl acetate were chosen as organic solvents for the acrylate polymer recovery from the display film waste. Effects of various recovery parameters (e.g. temperature, time, and stirring speed) on the recovery of acrylate polymer in five different solvent systems consisting of 2-butanol and methyl acetate (2-butanol, methyl acetate, 1:1 mixture, 1:2 mixture, and 2:1 mixture) were explored. 2-Butanol was found to be a better solvent than any others because it is more hydrophobic than methyl acetate. The recovery condition at which the highest acrylate polymer recovery yield in 2-butanol was obtained was T = 30 °C, t = 1 h, and stirring speed of 250 r/min, reaching 8.28 wt%. The clinical significance of PD-1 expression in circulating CD8+ T cells in patients with gastric cancer (GC) receiving chemotherapy remains unelucidated. Therefore, we aimed to examine its prognostic significance in blood samples of 68 patients with advanced GC who received platinum-based chemotherapy. The correlation between peripheral blood mononuclear cells, measured using fluorescence-activated cell sorting, was evaluated. Patients were divided into two groups according to the changes in PD-1+CD8+ T-cell frequencies between day 0 and 7. They were categorized as increased or decreased PD-1+CD8+ T-cell groups. The increased PD-1+CD8+ T-cell group showed longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) than the decreased PD-1+CD8+ T-cell group (PFS: 8.7 months vs. 6.1 months, p = 0.007; OS: 20.7 months vs. 10.8 months, p = 0.003). The mean duration of response was significantly different between the groups (5.7 months vs. 2.5 months, p = 0.041). Multivariate analysis revealed that an increase in PD-1+CD8+ T-cell frequency was an independent prognostic factor. We concluded that the early increase in PD-1+CD8+ T-cell frequency is a potential predictor of favorable prognoses and durable responses in patients with advanced GC receiving chemotherapy.

Autonomous driving requires a computerized perception of the environment for safety and machine‐learning evaluation. Recognizing semantic information is difficult, as the objective is to instantly recognize and distinguish items in the environment. Training a model with real‐time semantic capability and high reliability requires extensive and specialized datasets. However, generalized datasets are unavailable and are typically difficult to construct for specific tasks. Hence, a light detection and ranging semantic dataset suitable for semantic simultaneous localization and mapping and specialized for autonomous driving is proposed. This dataset is provided in a form that can be easily used by users familiar with existing two‐dimensional image datasets, and it contains various weather and light conditions collected from a complex and diverse practical setting. An incremental and suggestive annotation routine is proposed to improve annotation efficiency. A model is trained to simultaneously predict segmentation labels and suggest class‐representative frames. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields a more efficient dataset than uniformly sampled datasets.
