Increasing educational attainment is one of the most important and effective tools for health and economic improvements. The extent to which extreme climate events disrupt education, resulting in fewer years of schooling and reduced educational attainment, remains under-studied. Children in low- and middle-income countries may be uniquely vulnerable to loss of schooling after such disasters due to the poor physical condition of schools and the lack of resources to rebuild and mitigate unexpected household shocks. Our analysis assesses this overlooked social cost of tropical cyclones on schooling attainment. We study the education records of nearly 5.1 million people living in 13 low- and middle-income countries that were exposed to tropical cyclones between 1954-2010. We find that exposure to tropical cyclones during preschool age is associated with a 2.7 percentage point decrease in primary school enrollment on average (14.2% decrease), with larger effects from more intense storms (up to 28% decrease for the most intense storms). These effects are more pronounced among school-age girls compared to boys and are greater in areas less accustomed to experiencing tropical cyclones. We estimate that, across all LMICs, tropical cyclone exposure has resulted in more than 410,000 children not attending primary school in the last 20 years, leading to a reduction of more than 4.1 million total years of schooling. These impacts, identified among some of the world's poorest populations, may grow in importance as exposure to severe tropical cyclones is projected to increase with climate change.

Human mobility prediction plays a crucial role in various real-world applications. Although deep learning based models have shown promising results over the past decade, their reliance on extensive private mobility data for training and their inability to perform zero-shot predictions, have hindered further advancements. Recently, attempts have been made to apply large language models (LLMs) to mobility prediction task. However, their performance has been constrained by the absence of a systematic design of workflow. They directly generate the final output using LLMs, which limits the potential of LLMs to uncover complex mobility patterns and underestimates their extensive reserve of global geospatial knowledge. In this paper, we introduce AgentMove, a systematic agentic prediction framework to achieve generalized mobility prediction for any cities worldwide. In AgentMove, we first decompose the mobility prediction task into three sub-tasks and then design corresponding modules to complete these subtasks, including spatial-temporal memory for individual mobility pattern mining, world knowledge generator for modeling the effects of urban structure and collective knowledge extractor for capturing the shared patterns among population. Finally, we combine the results of three modules and conduct a reasoning step to generate the final predictions. Extensive experiments on mobility data from two sources in 12 cities demonstrate that AgentMove outperforms the best baseline more than 8% in various metrics and it shows robust predictions with various LLMs as base and also less geographical bias across cities. The doping evolution behaviors of the normal state magnetic excitations (MEs) of the nickelate La3Ni2O7 are theoretically studied in this paper. For a filling of n = 3.0 which corresponds roughly to the material which realizes the superconductivity of about 80 K under moderately high pressures above 14 GPa, the MEs exhibit a square-like pattern centered at (0,0) which originates from the intrapocket particle-hole scatterings. Furthermore, it was found that the MEs show very strong modulations on the interlayer momentum qz. With the increasing of qz, the patterns of the MEs change dramatically. In the large qz regime, they turn to be ruled by the interpocket excitation modes with significantly larger intensity which may play a vital role in the superconducting pairing. This hidden feature of the MEs was not revealed by previous studies. The established features of the MEs are found to be very robust against doping. They persist in the wide hole- or electron-doping regime around n = 3.0. However, in the heavily electron-doped regime, a Lifshitz transition will occur. Consequently, the behaviors of the MEs change qualitatively across this transition. With the absence of the hole pocket, we predict that a strong tendency toward the spin-density-wave (SDW) order will develop due to the perfect nesting between the electron and the hole pockets at n = 4.0. The recent surge of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of AI research and industry, shedding light on a promising path toward the next AI milestone. However, significant challenges remain preventing MLLMs from being practical in real-world applications. The most notable challenge comes from the huge cost of running an MLLM with a massive number of parameters and extensive computation. As a result, most MLLMs need to be deployed on high-performing cloud servers, which greatly limits their application scopes such as mobile, offline, energy-sensitive, and privacy-protective scenarios. In this work, we present MiniCPM-V, a series of efficient MLLMs deployable on end-side devices. By integrating the latest MLLM techniques in architecture, pretraining and alignment, the latest MiniCPM-Llama3-V 2.5 has several notable features: (1) Strong performance, outperforming GPT-4V-1106, Gemini Pro and Claude 3 on OpenCompass, a comprehensive evaluation over 11 popular benchmarks, (2) strong OCR capability and 1.8M pixel high-resolution image perception at any aspect ratio, (3) trustworthy behavior with low hallucination rates, (4) multilingual support for 30+ languages, and (5) efficient deployment on mobile phones. More importantly, MiniCPM-V can be viewed as a representative example of a promising trend: The model sizes for achieving usable (e.g., GPT-4V) level performance are rapidly decreasing, along with the fast growth of end-side computation capacity. This jointly shows that GPT-4V level MLLMs deployed on end devices are becoming increasingly possible, unlocking a wider spectrum of real-world AI applications in the near future., Comment: preprint

While existing Audio-Visual Speech Separation (AVSS) methods primarily concentrate on the audio-visual fusion strategy for two-speaker separation, they demonstrate a severe performance drop in the multi-speaker separation scenarios. Typically, AVSS methods employ guiding videos to sequentially isolate individual speakers from the given audio mixture, resulting in notable missing and noisy parts across various segments of the separated speech. In this study, we propose a simultaneous multi-speaker separation framework that can facilitate the concurrent separation of multiple speakers within a singular process. We introduce speaker-wise interactions to establish distinctions and correlations among speakers. Experimental results on the VoxCeleb2 and LRS3 datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in separating mixtures with 2, 3, 4, and 5 speakers, respectively. Additionally, our model can utilize speakers with complete audio-visual information to mitigate other visual-deficient speakers, thereby enhancing its resilience to missing visual cues. We also conduct experiments where visual information for specific speakers is entirely absent or visual frames are partially missing. We present our optical observations and multi-wavelength analysis of the GRB\,200613A detected by \texttt{Fermi} satellite. Time-resolved spectral analysis of the prompt $\gamma$-ray emission was conducted utilizing the Bayesian block method to determine statistically optimal time bins. Based on the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), the data generally favor the Band+Blackbody (short as BB) model. We speculate that the main Band component comes from the Blandford-Znajek mechanism, while the additional BB component comes from the neutrino annihilation process. The BB component becomes significant for a low-spin, high-accretion rate black hole central engine, as evidenced by our model comparison with the data. The afterglow light curve exhibits typical power-law decay, and its behavior can be explained by the collision between the ejecta and constant interstellar medium (ISM). Model fitting yields the following parameters: $E_{K,iso} = (2.04^{+11.8}_{-1.50})\times 10^{53}$ erg, $\Gamma_0=354^{+578}_{-217}$, $p=2.09^{+0.02}_{-0.03}$, $n_{18}=(2.04^{+9.71}_{-1.87})\times 10^{2}$ cm$^{-3}$, $\theta_j=24.0^{+6.50}_{-5.54}$ degree, $\epsilon_e=1.66^{+4.09}_{-1.39})\times 10^{-1}$ and $\epsilon_B=(7.76^{+48.5}_{-5.9})\times 10^{-6}$. In addition, we employed the public Python package \texttt{Prospector} perform a spectral energy distribution (SED) modeling of the host galaxy. The results suggest that the host galaxy is a massive galaxy ($\log(M_\ast / M_\odot)=11.75^{+0.10}_{-0.09}$) with moderate star formation rate ($\mbox{SFR}=22.58^{+13.63}_{-7.22} M_{\odot}$/yr). In recent years, 2D human pose estimation has made significant progress on public benchmarks. However, many of these approaches face challenges of less applicability in the industrial community due to the large number of parametric quantities and computational overhead. Efficient human pose estimation remains a hurdle, especially for whole-body pose estimation with numerous keypoints. While most current methods for efficient human pose estimation primarily rely on CNNs, we propose the Group-based Token Pruning Transformer (GTPT) that fully harnesses the advantages of the Transformer. GTPT alleviates the computational burden by gradually introducing keypoints in a coarse-to-fine manner. It minimizes the computation overhead while ensuring high performance. Besides, GTPT groups keypoint tokens and prunes visual tokens to improve model performance while reducing redundancy. We propose the Multi-Head Group Attention (MHGA) between different groups to achieve global interaction with little computational overhead. We conducted experiments on COCO and COCO-WholeBody. The Ruddlesden-Popper (R-P) bilayer nickelate, La3Ni2O7, was recently found to show signatures of high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC) at pressures above 14 GPa. Subsequent investigations achieved zero resistance in single- and poly-crystalline samples under hydrostatic pressure conditions. Yet, obvious diamagnetic signals, the other hallmark of superconductors, are still lacking owing to the filamentary nature with low superconducting volume fraction. The presence of a novel "1313" polymorph and competing R-P phases obscured proper identification of the phase for HTSC. Thus, achieving bulk HTSC and identifying the phase at play are the most prominent tasks at present. Here, we address these issues in the praseodymium (Pr)-doped La2PrNi2O7 polycrystalline samples. We find that the substitutions of Pr for La effectively inhibits the intergrowth of different R-P phases, resulting in nearly pure bilayer structure. For La2PrNi2O7, pressure-induced orthorhombic-to-tetragonal structural transition takes place at Pc ~ 11 GPa, above which HTSC emerges gradually upon further compression. The superconducting transition temperatures at 18-20 GPa reach Tconset = 82.5 K and Tczero = 60 K, which are the highest values among known nickelate superconductors. More importantly, bulk HTSC was testified by detecting clear diamagnetic signals below ~75 K corresponding to an estimated superconducting volume fraction ~ 57(5)% at 20 GPa. Our results not only resolve the existing controversies but also illuminate directions for exploring bulk HTSC in the bilayer nickelates.

Over the past three decades, multiple reverberation mapping (RM) campaigns conducted for the quasar PG 2130+099 have exhibited inconsistent findings with time delays ranging from $\sim$10 to $\sim$200 days. To achieve a comprehensive understanding of the geometry and dynamics of the broad-line region (BLR) in PG 2130+099, we continued an ongoing high-cadence RM monitoring campaign using the Calar Alto Observatory 2.2m optical telescope for an extra four years from 2019 to 2022. We measured the time lags of several broad emission lines (including He II, He I, H$\beta$, and Fe II) with respect to the 5100 {\AA} continuum, and their time lags continuously vary through the years. Especially, the H$\beta$ time lags exhibited approximately a factor of two increase in the last two years. Additionally, the velocity-resolved time delays of the broad H$\beta$ emission line reveal a back-and-forth change between signs of virial motion and inflow in the BLR. The combination of negligible ($\sim$10%) continuum change and substantial time-lag variation (over two times) results in significant scatter in the intrinsic $R_{\rm H\beta}-L_{\rm 5100}$ relationship for PG 2130+099. Taking into account the consistent changes in the continuum variability time scale and the size of the BLR, we tentatively propose that the changes in the measurement of the BLR size may be affected by 'geometric dilution'., Comment: 21 pages, 13 figures, 7 tables; accepted for publication in ApJ

Modern microcontroller software is often written in C/C++ and suffers from control-flow hijacking vulnerabilities. Previous mitigations suffer from high performance and memory overheads and require either the presence of memory protection hardware or sophisticated program analysis in the compiler. This paper presents DeTRAP (Debug Trigger Return Address Protection). DeTRAP utilizes a full implementation of the RISC-V debug hardware specification to provide a write-protected shadow stack for return addresses. Unlike previous work, DeTRAP requires no memory protection hardware and only minor changes to the compiler toolchain. We tested DeTRAP on an FPGA running a 32-bit RISC-V microcontroller core and found average execution time overheads to be between 0.5% and 1.9% on evaluated benchmark suites with code size overheads averaging 7.9% or less., Comment: To appear at IEEE Secure Development Conference 2024

This paper investigates a zero-sum stochastic linear-quadratic (SLQ, for short) Stackelberg differential game problem, where the coefficients of the state equation and the weighting matrices in the performance functional are regulated by a Markov chain. By utilizing the findings in \citet{Zhang.X.2021_ILQM}, we directly present the feedback representation to the rational reaction of the follower. For the leader's problem, we derive the optimality system through the variational method and study its unique solvability from the Hilbert space point of view. We construct the explicit optimal control for the leader based on the solution to coupled differential Riccati equations (CDREs, for short) and obtain the solvability of CDREs under the one-dimensional framework. Finally, we provide two concrete examples to illustrate the results developed in this paper.

Self-Consistency (SC) is a widely used method to mitigate hallucinations in Large Language Models (LLMs) by sampling the LLM multiple times and outputting the most frequent solution. Despite its benefits, SC results in significant computational costs proportional to the number of samples generated. Previous early-stopping approaches, such as Early Stopping Self Consistency and Adaptive Consistency, have aimed to reduce these costs by considering output consistency, but they do not analyze the quality of the reasoning paths (RPs) themselves. To address this issue, we propose Reasoning-Aware Self-Consistency (RASC), an innovative early-stopping framework that dynamically adjusts the number of sample generations by considering both the output answer and the RPs from Chain of Thought (CoT) prompting. RASC assigns confidence scores sequentially to the generated samples, stops when certain criteria are met, and then employs weighted majority voting to optimize sample usage and enhance answer reliability. We comprehensively test RASC with multiple LLMs across varied QA datasets. RASC outperformed existing methods and significantly reduces sample usage by an average of 80% while maintaining or improving accuracy up to 5% compared to the original SC

The stability of visual odometry (VO) systems is undermined by degraded image quality, especially in environments with significant illumination changes. This study employs a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework to train agents for exposure control, aiming to enhance imaging performance in challenging conditions. A lightweight image simulator is developed to facilitate the training process, enabling the diversification of image exposure and sequence trajectory. This setup enables completely offline training, eliminating the need for direct interaction with camera hardware and the real environments. Different levels of reward functions are crafted to enhance the VO systems, equipping the DRL agents with varying intelligence. Extensive experiments have shown that our exposure control agents achieve superior efficiency-with an average inference duration of 1.58 ms per frame on a CPU-and respond more quickly than traditional feedback control schemes. By choosing an appropriate reward function, agents acquire an intelligent understanding of motion trends and anticipate future illumination changes. This predictive capability allows VO systems to deliver more stable and precise odometry results. Superconducting quantum computing emerges as one of leading candidates for achieving quantum advantage. However, a prevailing challenge is the coding overhead due to limited quantum connectivity, constrained by nearest-neighbor coupling among superconducting qubits. Here, we propose a novel multimode coupling scheme using three resonators driven by in-phase and quadrature microwaves, based on the resonator-induced phase gate, to extend the $ZZ$ interaction distance between qubits. We demonstrate a CZ gate fidelity exceeding 99.9\% within 160 ns at free spectral range (FSR) of 1.3 GHz, and by optimizing driving pulses, we further reduce the residual photon to nearly $10^{-3}$ within 100 ns at FSR of 0.2 GHz. These facilitate the long-range CZ gate over separations reaching sub-meters, thus significantly enhancing qubit connectivity and making a practical step towards the scalable integration and modularization of quantum processors. Specifically, our approach supports the implementation of quantum error correction codes requiring high connectivity, such as low-density parity check codes that paves the way to achieving fault-tolerant quantum computing., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

Beginning with VisualGLM and CogVLM, we are continuously exploring VLMs in pursuit of enhanced vision-language fusion, efficient higher-resolution architecture, and broader modalities and applications. Here we propose the CogVLM2 family, a new generation of visual language models for image and video understanding including CogVLM2, CogVLM2-Video and GLM-4V. As an image understanding model, CogVLM2 inherits the visual expert architecture with improved training recipes in both pre-training and post-training stages, supporting input resolution up to $1344 \times 1344$ pixels. As a video understanding model, CogVLM2-Video integrates multi-frame input with timestamps and proposes automated temporal grounding data construction. Notably, CogVLM2 family has achieved state-of-the-art results on benchmarks like MMBench, MM-Vet, TextVQA, MVBench and VCGBench. Graph neural networks (GNNs) have excelled in predictive modeling for both crystals and molecules, owing to the expressiveness of graph representations. High-entropy alloys (HEAs), however, lack chemical long-range order, limiting the applicability of current graph representations. To overcome this challenge, we propose a representation of HEAs as a collection of local environment (LE) graphs. Based on this representation, we introduce the LESets machine learning model, an accurate, interpretable GNN for HEA property prediction. We demonstrate the accuracy of LESets in modeling the mechanical properties of quaternary HEAs. Through analyses and interpretation, we further extract insights into the modeling and design of HEAs. In a broader sense, LESets extends the potential applicability of GNNs to disordered materials with combinatorial complexity formed by diverse constituents and their flexible configurations.

Self-critic has become an important mechanism for enhancing the reasoning performance of LLMs. However, current approaches mainly involve basic prompts without further training, which tend to be over-simplified, leading to limited accuracy.Moreover, there is a lack of in-depth investigation of the relationship between LLM's ability to criticism and its task-solving performance.To address these issues, we propose Critic-CoT, a novel framework that pushes LLMs toward System-2-like critic capability, via step-wise CoT reasoning format and distant-supervision data construction, without the need for human annotation. Experiments on GSM8K and MATH show that via filtering out invalid solutions or iterative refinement, our enhanced model boosts task-solving performance, which demonstrates the effectiveness of our method. Further, we find that training on critique and refinement alone improves the generation. We hope our work could shed light on future research on improving the reasoning and critic ability of LLMs.

The cosmic variance on the star formation history may lead to bias to the merger rate density estimation of binary neutron star (BNS) mergers by the compact binary population synthesis. In this paper, we take the advantage of the large boxsize of the Millennium Simulation combined with the semi-analytic galaxy formation model GABE, and the parameterized population binary star evolution (BSE) model to examine how much effect will the cosmic variance introduce on the estimation of merger rate density of BNS mergers. We find that for sub-box size of $100\rm Mpc$ and $200\rm Mpc$, the variance of merger rate density $\sigma_{\rm R}/\rm R$ at different redshift is about $23\%-35\%$ and $13\%-20\%$ respectively. On one hand, as for the variance of the detection rate on BNS mergers with current LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) detector network, this value is very small $\lesssim 10\%$, which indicates ignoring the cosmic variance is reasonable for estimating the merger rate density from current LVK observation. On the other hand, with next-generation gravitational wave detectors, it is possible to localize BNS mergers within sub-boxes possessing length of $\rm 40 Mpc$ for source redshift $z_{s}<0.2$. In such a small box, the cosmic variance of the merger rate density is significant, i.e., the value of $\sigma_{\rm R}/\rm R$ is about $\sim 55\%$. GeSn-based SWIR lasers featuring imaging, sensing, and communications has gained dynamic development recently. However, the existing SiGeSn/GeSn double heterostructure lacks adequate electron confinement and is insufficient for room temperature lasing. The recently demonstrated semiconductor grafting technique provides a viable approach towards AlGaAs/GeSn p-i-n heterojunctions with better electron confinement and high-quality interfaces, promising for room temperature electrically pumped GeSn laser devices. Therefore, understanding and quantitatively characterizing the band alignment in this grafted heterojunction is crucial. In this study, we explore the band alignment in the grafted monocrystalline Al0.3Ga0.7As /Ge0.853Sn0.147 p-i-n heterojunction. We determined the bandgap values of AlGaAs and GeSn to be 1.81 eV and 0.434 eV by photoluminescence measurements, respectively. We further conducted X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements and extracted a valence band offset of 0.19 eV and a conduction band offset of 1.186 eV. A Type-I band alignment was confirmed which effectively confining electrons at the AlGaAs/GeSn interface. This study improves our understanding of the interfacial band structure in grafted AlGaAs/GeSn heterostructure, providing experimental evidence of the Type-I band alignment between AlGaAs and GeSn, and paving the way for their application in laser technologies., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

Extracting robust feature representation is critical for object re-identification to accurately identify objects across non-overlapping cameras. Although having a strong representation ability, the Vision Transformer (ViT) tends to overfit on most distinct regions of training data, limiting its generalizability and attention to holistic object features. Meanwhile, due to the structural difference between CNN and ViT, fine-grained strategies that effectively address this issue in CNN do not continue to be successful in ViT. To address this issue, by observing the latent diverse representation hidden behind the multi-head attention, we present PartFormer, an innovative adaptation of ViT designed to overcome the granularity limitations in object Re-ID tasks. The PartFormer integrates a Head Disentangling Block (HDB) that awakens the diverse representation of multi-head self-attention without the typical loss of feature richness induced by concatenation and FFN layers post-attention. To avoid the homogenization of attention heads and promote robust part-based feature learning, two head diversity constraints are imposed: attention diversity constraint and correlation diversity constraint. These constraints enable the model to exploit diverse and discriminative feature representations from different attention heads. Comprehensive experiments on various object Re-ID benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of the PartFormer. Specifically, our framework significantly outperforms state-of-the-art by 2.4\% mAP scores on the most challenging MSMT17 dataset.

Rapid advancements have been made in extending Large Language Models (LLMs) to Large Multi-modal Models (LMMs). However, extending input modality of LLMs to video data remains a challenging endeavor, especially for long videos. Due to insufficient access to large-scale high-quality video data and the excessive compression of visual features, current methods exhibit limitations in effectively processing long videos. In this paper, we introduce Kangaroo, a powerful Video LMM aimed at addressing these challenges. Confronted with issue of inadequate training data, we develop a data curation system to build a large-scale dataset with high-quality annotations for vision-language pre-training and instruction tuning. In addition, we design a curriculum training pipeline with gradually increasing resolution and number of input frames to accommodate long videos. Evaluation results demonstrate that, with 8B parameters, Kangaroo achieves state-of-the-art performance across a variety of video understanding benchmarks while exhibiting competitive results on others. Particularly, on benchmarks specialized for long videos, Kangaroo excels some larger models with over 10B parameters and proprietary models.

We introduce novel entropy-dissipative numerical schemes for a class of kinetic equations, leveraging the recently introduced scalar auxiliary variable (SAV) approach. Both first and second order schemes are constructed. Since the positivity of the solution is closely related to entropy, we also propose positivity-preserving versions of these schemes to ensure robustness, which include a scheme specially designed for the Boltzmann equation and a more general scheme using Lagrange multipliers. The accuracy and provable entropy-dissipation properties of the proposed schemes are validated for both the Boltzmann equation and the Landau equation through extensive numerical examples., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures

Recently, large language and vision models have shown strong performance, but due to high pre-training and fine-tuning costs, research has shifted towards faster training via dataset pruning. Previous methods used sample loss as an evaluation criterion, aiming to select the most "difficult" samples for training. However, when the pruning rate increases, the number of times each sample is trained becomes more evenly distributed, which causes many critical or general samples to not be effectively fitted. We refer to this as Low-Frequency Learning (LFL). In other words, LFL prevents the model from remembering most samples. In our work, we decompose the scoring function of LFL, provide a theoretical explanation for the inefficiency of LFL, and propose adding a memory term to the scoring function to enhance the model's memory capability, along with an approximation of this memory term. Similarly, we explore memory in Self-Supervised Learning (SSL), marking the first discussion on SSL memory. Using contrastive learning, we derive the memory term both theoretically and experimentally. Finally, we propose Enhance Memory Pruning (EMP), which addresses the issue of insufficient memory under high pruning rates by enhancing the model's memory of data, thereby improving its performance. We evaluated the performance of EMP in tasks such as image classification, natural language understanding, and model pre-training. The results show that EMP can improve model performance under extreme pruning rates. For example, in the CIFAR100-ResNet50 pre-training task, with 70\% pruning, EMP outperforms current methods by 2.2\%.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly powerful and capable of handling complex tasks, e.g., building single agents and multi-agent systems. Compared to single agents, multi-agent systems have higher requirements for the collaboration capabilities of language models. Many benchmarks are proposed to evaluate their collaborative abilities. However, these benchmarks lack fine-grained evaluations of LLM collaborative capabilities. Additionally, multi-agent collaborative and competitive scenarios are ignored in existing works. To address these two problems, we propose a benchmark, called BattleAgentBench, which defines seven sub-stages of three varying difficulty levels and conducts a fine-grained evaluation of language models in terms of single-agent scenario navigation capabilities, paired-agent task execution abilities, and multi-agent collaboration and competition capabilities. We conducted extensive evaluations on leading four closed-source and seven open-source models. Experimental results indicate that API-based models perform excellently on simple tasks but open-source small models struggle with simple tasks. Regarding difficult tasks that require collaborative and competitive abilities, although API-based models have demonstrated some collaborative capabilities, there is still enormous room for improvement.

Rydberg atom array has been established as one appealing platform for quantum simulation and quantum computation. Recent experimental development of trapping and controlling two-species atoms using optical tweezer arrays has brought more complex interactions in this game, enabling much versatile novel quantum states and phenomena to emerge and thus leading to a growing need for both theoretical and numerical investigations in this regard. In this paper we systematically calculate the ground state phase diagram of alternating two-species atom array and find some novel quantum states that cannot exist in traditional cold-atom platforms, for instance the period $4$ product state $|1100\rangle^{\otimes m}$, the period $6$ product state $|111000\rangle^{\otimes m}$ and order-disorder separation phase. We also confirm the existence of floating phase, however, in this system it has to be described by two interacting bosonic fields whereas that in the single species Rydberg atom array can be understood as free bosons. More interestingly, in the quench dynamics we discover a type of new quantum many-body scar distinct from that previous found in single species atoms which is explained by low-energy effective theory of the PXP model. Instead, the underlying physics of the newly found quantum many-body scar can be described by a perturbation theory spanning the whole energy spectrum. Detailed analysis on how to experimentally prepare these states and observe the phenomena is provided. Numerical evidence shows that the proposed scheme is robust against typical experimentally relevent imperfections and thus it is implementable. The cultivation of expertise for large language models (LLMs) to solve tasks of specific areas often requires special-purpose tuning with calibrated behaviors on the expected stable outputs. To avoid huge cost brought by manual preparation of instruction datasets and training resources up to hundreds of hours, the exploitation of open knowledge including a wealth of low rank adaptation (LoRA) models and instruction datasets serves as a good starting point. However, existing methods on model and data selection focus on the performance of general-purpose capabilities while neglecting the knowledge gap exposed in domain-specific deployment. In the present study, we propose to bridge such gap by introducing few human-annotated samples (i.e., K-shot) for advancing task expertise of LLMs with open knowledge. Specifically, we develop an efficient and scalable pipeline to cost-efficiently produce task experts where K-shot data intervene in selecting the most promising expert candidates and the task-relevant instructions. A mixture-of-expert (MoE) system is built to make the best use of individual-yet-complementary knowledge between multiple experts. We unveil the two keys to the success of a MoE system, 1) the abidance by K-shot, and 2) the insistence on diversity. For the former, we ensure that models that truly possess problem-solving abilities on K-shot are selected rather than those blind guessers. Besides, during data selection, instructions that share task-relevant contexts with K-shot are prioritized. For the latter, we highlight the diversity of constituting experts and that of the fine-tuning instructions throughout the model and data selection process. Extensive experimental results confirm the superiority of our approach over existing methods on utilization of open knowledge across various tasks. Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated notable capabilities across various tasks, showcasing complex problem-solving abilities. Understanding and executing complex rules, along with multi-step planning, are fundamental to logical reasoning and critical for practical LLM agents and decision-making systems. However, evaluating LLMs as effective rule-based executors and planners remains underexplored. In this paper, we introduce LogicGame, a novel benchmark designed to evaluate the comprehensive rule understanding, execution, and planning capabilities of LLMs. Unlike traditional benchmarks, LogicGame provides diverse games that contain a series of rules with an initial state, requiring models to comprehend and apply predefined regulations to solve problems. We create simulated scenarios in which models execute or plan operations to achieve specific outcomes. These game scenarios are specifically designed to distinguish logical reasoning from mere knowledge by relying exclusively on predefined rules. This separation allows for a pure assessment of rule-based reasoning capabilities. The evaluation considers not only final outcomes but also intermediate steps, providing a comprehensive assessment of model performance. Moreover, these intermediate steps are deterministic and can be automatically verified. LogicGame defines game scenarios with varying difficulty levels, from simple rule applications to complex reasoning chains, in order to offer a precise evaluation of model performance on rule understanding and multi-step execution. Utilizing LogicGame, we test various LLMs and identify notable shortcomings in their rule-based logical reasoning abilities.

When applying integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) in future mobile networks, many sensing tasks have low latency requirements, preferably being implemented at terminals. However, terminals often have limited computing capabilities and energy supply. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of leveraging the advanced computing capabilities of mobile edge computing (MEC) servers and the cloud server to address the sensing tasks of ISAC terminals. Specifically, we propose a novel three-tier integrated sensing, communication, and computing (ISCC) framework composed of one cloud server, multiple MEC servers, and multiple terminals, where the terminals can optionally offload sensing data to the MEC server or the cloud server. The offload message is sent via the ISAC waveform, whose echo is used for sensing. We jointly optimize the computation offloading and beamforming strategies to minimize the average execution latency while satisfying sensing requirements. In particular, we propose a low-complexity distributed algorithm to solve the problem. Firstly, we use the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and derive the closed-form solution for offloading decision variables. Subsequently, we convert the beamforming optimization sub-problem into a weighted minimum mean-square error (WMMSE) problem and propose a fractional programming based algorithm. Rap, a prominent genre of vocal performance, remains underexplored in vocal generation. General vocal synthesis depends on precise note and duration inputs, requiring users to have related musical knowledge, which limits flexibility. In contrast, rap typically features simpler melodies, with a core focus on a strong rhythmic sense that harmonizes with accompanying beats. In this paper, we propose Freestyler, the first system that generates rapping vocals directly from lyrics and accompaniment inputs. Freestyler utilizes language model-based token generation, followed by a conditional flow matching model to produce spectrograms and a neural vocoder to restore audio. It allows a 3-second prompt to enable zero-shot timbre control. Due to the scarcity of publicly available rap datasets, we also present RapBank, a rap song dataset collected from the internet, alongside a meticulously designed processing pipeline. Experimental results show that Freestyler produces high-quality rapping voice generation with enhanced naturalness and strong alignment with accompanying beats, both stylistically and rhythmically.

The increasing integration of renewable energy resources into power grids has led to time-varying system inertia and consequent degradation in frequency dynamics. A promising solution to alleviate performance degradation is using power electronics interfaced energy resources, such as renewable generators and battery energy storage for primary frequency control, by adjusting their power output set-points in response to frequency deviations. However, designing a frequency controller under time-varying inertia is challenging. Specifically, the stability or optimality of controllers designed for time-invariant systems can be compromised once applied to a time-varying system. We model the frequency dynamics under time-varying inertia as a nonlinear switching system, where the frequency dynamics under each mode are described by the nonlinear swing equations and different modes represent different inertia levels. We identify a key controller structure, named Neural Proportional-Integral (Neural-PI) controller, that guarantees exponential input-to-state stability for each mode. To further improve performance, we present an online event-triggered switching algorithm to select the most suitable controller from a set of Neural-PI controllers, each optimized for specific inertia levels. Simulations on the IEEE 39-bus system validate the effectiveness of the proposed online switching control method with stability guarantees and optimized performance for frequency control under time-varying inertia.

This paper presents a Bayesian Inference General Procedures for A Single-Subject Test (BIGPAST), designed to mitigate the effects of skewness. BIGPAST operates under the null hypothesis that the single-subject follows the same distribution as the control group. We assess BIGPAST's performance against other methods through a series of simulation studies. The results demonstrate that BIGPAST is robust against deviations from normality and outperforms the existing approaches in terms of accuracy. This is because BIGPAST can effectively reduce model misspecification errors under the skewed Student's \( t \) assumption. The polar magnetic fields of the Sun play an important role in governing solar activity and powering fast solar wind. However, because our view of the Sun is limited in the ecliptic plane, the polar regions remain largely uncharted. Using the high spatial resolution and polarimetric precision vector magnetograms observed by Hinode from 2012 to 2021, we investigate the long-term variation of the magnetic fields in polar caps at different latitudes. The Hinode magnetic measurements show that the polarity reversal processes in the north and south polar caps are non-simultaneous. The variation of the averaged radial magnetic flux density reveals that, in each polar cap, the polarity reversal is completed successively from the 70 degree latitude to the pole, reflecting a poleward magnetic flux migration therein. In the present study we employ three distinct physically motivated speed of sound bounds in order to construct hybrid models where the high density phase is described by the maximally stiff equation of state. In particular, we consider the bounds related to special relativity, relativistic kinetic theory and conformality. The low density hadronic phase is described by a state-of-the-art microscopic relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory. This work aims to access the effect of the different speed of sound constraints on the relevant parameter space of the key parameters of first-order phase transitions by utilising recent astronomical data. This involves a systematic analysis that also includes two distinct schemes for the construction of hybrid models, namely the Maxwell and Gibbs methods. The recently discovered spin-triplet superconductor candidate UTe2 with Tc = 2 K has attracted enormous attention because it possesses many interesting properties, such as the extremely high upper critical field Hc2(0), chiral superconductivity and spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking, etc., all these suggest that it may be the long-sought spin-triplet superconductor. Here we report the discovery of superconductivity up to Tc = 4K in one of its siblings, i.e., UAs2 under high pressures. Interestingly, the UAs2 shows metallic behavior with an antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition at about 274 K under ambient pressure. Upon applying pressure, this transition is pushed down to lower temperatures with improved electric conductivity. When the pressure rises to about 20-22 GPa, superconductivity occurs together with the emergence of a linear temperature dependence of normal state resistance, the latter is a hallmark of the strange-metal state. The superconductivity with the highest Tc = 4 K is reached under a pressure of about 26.8 GPa, and it is robust against magnetic field with the upper critical field {\mu}0Hc2(0) ~ 12 T, far beyond the Pauli limit. Higher pressures will suppress the superconductivity and bring back the Fermi liquid behavior, showing a clear signature of quantum criticality. The giant-atom topological-waveguide-QED systems have recently emerged as a promising platform for manipulating light-matter interactions. The combination of the multiple-point couplings and topological phase effect could lead to rich physical phenomena and effects. Here, we study single-photon scattering in a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) waveguide coupled to either one or two two-level giant atoms. We assume that each giant atom is coupled to the waveguide via two coupling points, and hence there exist four and sixteen coupling configurations for the single-giant-atom case and two-giant-atom separate coupling case, respectively. By solving the single-photon scattering problem in the real space, we obtain the exact expressions of the single-photon scattering amplitudes. It is found that a single photon in the SSH waveguide can be completely reflected or transmitted by choosing proper coupling configurations, coupling-point distances, atomic resonance frequency, and dimerization parameter. In addition, under proper parameter conditions, the scattering spectra are periodically modulated by the coupling-point distances. We also find that the collective behavior of the two giant atoms can be adjusted by quantum interference effect and topological effect, and that the single-photon scattering spectra can exhibit the Lorentzian, super-Gaussian, electromagnetically induced transparency-like, and asymmetric Fano line shapes for some coupling configurations. This paper considers a multi-functional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with integrated sensing, communication, and powering (ISCAP), in which a multi-antenna base station (BS) transmits OFDM signals to simultaneously deliver information to multiple information receivers (IRs), provide energy supply to multiple energy receivers (ERs), and sense potential targets based on the echo signals. To facilitate ISCAP, the BS employs the joint transmit beamforming design by sending dedicated sensing/energy beams jointly with information beams. Furthermore, we consider the beam scanning for sensing, in which the joint beams scan in different directions over time to sense potential targets. In order to ensure the sensing beam scanning performance and meet the communication and powering requirements, it is essential to properly schedule IRs and ERs and design the resource allocation over time, frequency, and space. More specifically, we optimize the joint transmit beamforming over multiple OFDM symbols and subcarriers, with the objective of minimizing the average beampattern matching error of beam scanning for sensing, subject to the constraints on the average communication rates at IRs and the average harvested power at ERs. We find converged high-quality solutions to the formulated problem by proposing efficient iterative algorithms based on advanced optimization techniques. We also develop various heuristic designs based on the principles of zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming, round-robin user scheduling, and time switching, respectively. Numerical results show that our proposed algorithms adaptively generate information and sensing/energy beams at each time-frequency slot to match the scheduled IRs/ERs with the desired scanning beam, significantly outperforming the heuristic designs., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures

The noise-biased Kerr-cat qubit is an attractive candidate for fault-tolerant quantum computation; however, its initialization faces challenges due to the squeezing pump-induced frequency shift (PIFS). Here, we propose and demonstrate a dynamic compensation method to mitigate the effect of PIFS during the Kerr-cat qubit initialization. Utilizing a novel nonlinearity-engineered triple-loop SQUID device, we realize a stabilized Kerr-cat qubit and validate the advantages of the dynamic compensation method by improving the initialization fidelity from 57% to 78%, with a projected fidelity of 91% after excluding state preparation and measurement errors. Our results not only advance the practical implementation of Kerr-cat qubits, but also provide valuable insights into the fundamental adiabatic dynamics of these systems. This work paves the way for scalable quantum processors that leverage the bias-preserving properties of Kerr-cat qubits.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel protocol for transferring quantum states between superconducting cavities using only continuous two-mode squeezing interactions, without exchange of photonic excitations between cavities. This approach conceptually resembles quantum teleportation, where quantum information is transferred between different nodes without directly transmitting carrier photons. In contrast to the discrete operations of entanglement and Bell-state measurement in teleportation, our scheme is symmetric and continuous. We experimentally realize coherent and bidirectional transfer of arbitrary quantum states, including bosonic quantum error correction codes. Our results offer new insights into the quantum state transfer and quantum teleportation. In particular, our demonstration validates a new approach to realize quantum transducers, and might find applications in a wide range of physical platforms.

The Schr\"{o}dinger cat states are a kind of significant quantum resource in quantum physics and quantum information science. Here we propose a proposal for generating chiral cat states in a spinning resonator supporting both the clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) traveling modes, which are dispersively coupled to a two-level atom. The physical mechanism for the chiral cat-state generation is based on the Sagnac-Fizeau effect. Concretely, when the resonator is rotating, the CW and CCW modes have different frequency detuning with respect to the atomic transition frequency, and hence the atomic-state-dependent rotating angular velocities for the CW and CCW modes in phase space are different. This mode-dependent evolution leads to the chirality in the state generation. By choosing proper system parameters, we achieve the separate generation of the Schr\"{o}dinger cat states and coherent states in the two traveling modes. We also investigate quantum coherence properties of the generated states by examining their Wigner functions. In addition, the influence of the system dissipations on the state generation in the open-system case is investigated. Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting enhances Large Language Models (LLMs) complex reasoning abilities by generating intermediate steps. However, these steps can introduce hallucinations and accumulate errors. We propose the CoT Rerailer to address these challenges, employing self-consistency and multi-agent debate systems to identify and rectify errors in the reasoning process. The CoT Rerailer first selects the most logically correct Reasoning Path (RP) using consistency checks and critical evaluation by automated agents. It then engages a multi-agent debate system to propose and validate corrections to ensure the generation of an error-free intermediate logical path. The corrected steps are then used to generate a revised reasoning chain to further reduce hallucinations and enhance answer quality. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach across diverse question-answering datasets in various knowledge domains. The CoT Rerailer enhances the reliability of LLM-generated reasoning, contributing to more trustworthy AI driven decision-making processes.

Data-driven approaches for autonomous driving (AD) have been widely adopted in the past decade but are confronted with dataset bias and uninterpretability. Inspired by the knowledge-driven nature of human driving, recent approaches explore the potential of large language models (LLMs) to improve understanding and decision-making in traffic scenarios. They find that the pretrain-finetune paradigm of LLMs on downstream data with the Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning process can enhance explainability and scene understanding. However, such a popular strategy proves to suffer from the notorious problems of misalignment between the crafted CoTs against the consequent decision-making, which remains untouched by previous LLM-based AD methods. To address this problem, we motivate an end-to-end decision-making model based on multimodality-augmented LLM, which simultaneously executes CoT reasoning and carries out planning results. Furthermore, we propose a reasoning-decision alignment constraint between the paired CoTs and planning results, imposing the correspondence between reasoning and decision-making. Moreover, we redesign the CoTs to enable the model to comprehend complex scenarios and enhance decision-making performance. We dub our proposed large language planners with reasoning-decision alignment as RDA-Driver. Experimental evaluations on the nuScenes and DriveLM-nuScenes benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our RDA-Driver in enhancing the performance of end-to-end AD systems. Specifically, our RDA-Driver achieves state-of-the-art planning performance on the nuScenes dataset with 0.80 L2 error and 0.32 collision rate, and also achieves leading results on challenging DriveLM-nuScenes benchmarks with 0.82 L2 error and 0.38 collision rate.

Volumetric segmentation is crucial for medical imaging but is often constrained by labor-intensive manual annotations and the need for scenario-specific model training. Furthermore, existing general segmentation models are inefficient due to their design and inferential approaches. Addressing this clinical demand, we introduce PropSAM, a propagation-based segmentation model that optimizes the use of 3D medical structure information. PropSAM integrates a CNN-based UNet for intra-slice processing with a Transformer-based module for inter-slice propagation, focusing on structural and semantic continuities to enhance segmentation across various modalities. Distinctively, PropSAM operates on a one-view prompt, such as a 2D bounding box or sketch mask, unlike conventional models that require two-view prompts. It has demonstrated superior performance, significantly improving the Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) across 44 medical datasets and various imaging modalities, outperforming models like MedSAM and SegVol with an average DSC improvement of 18.1%. PropSAM also maintains stable predictions despite prompt deviations and varying propagation configurations, confirmed by one-way ANOVA tests with P>0.5985 and P>0.6131, respectively. Moreover, PropSAM's efficient architecture enables faster inference speeds (Wilcoxon rank-sum test, P<0.001) and reduces user interaction time by 37.8% compared to two-view prompt models. Its ability to handle irregular and complex objects with robust performance further demonstrates its potential in clinical settings, facilitating more automated and reliable medical imaging analyses with minimal retraining., Comment: 26 figures, 6 figures

Inspired by the great progresses in the observations of charmonium-like states in recent years, we perform a systematic analysis about the ground states and the first radially excited states of $qc\bar{q}\bar{c}$($q$=$u/d$ and $s$) tetraquark systems. Their mass spectra, root mean square(r.m.s.) radii and radial density distributions are investigated within the framework of relativized quark model. By comparing numerical results with experimental data, some potential candidates for hidden-charm tetraquark states are suggested. For the $qc\bar{q}\bar{c}$($q$=$u/d$) system, theoretical predictions support assigning $Z_{c}(3900)$ and $Z(4430)$ as the ground and the first radially excited states with their quantum numbers to be $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$. Besides, the broad structure $Z_{c}(4200)$ may be also a partner of $Z_{c}(3900)$, and arise from the higher state with $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$. Theoretical predictions also indicate that the possible assignments for $X(3930)$, $X(4050)$ and $X(4250)$ are low lying $0^{++}$ states. As for the $sc\bar{s}\bar{c}$ system, $X(4140)$ and $X(4274)$ structures can be interpreted as this type of tetraquark states with $J^{PC}=1^{++}$. In addition, $X(4350)$ can also be described as a $sc\bar{s}\bar{c}$ tetraquark with $J^{PC}=0^{++}$. With regard to $qc\bar{s}\bar{c}$($q$=$u/d$) system, we find two potential candidates for this type of tetraquark, which are $Z_{cs}(4000)$ and $Z_{cs}(4220)$ structures. The masses of these two structures are in agreement with theoretical predictions of the $1^{+}$ state.

Cloud Computing has established itself as an efficient and cost-effective paradigm for the execution of web-based applications, and scientific workloads, that need elasticity and on-demand scalability capabilities. However, the evaluation of novel resource provisioning and management techniques is a major challenge due to the complexity of large-scale data centers. Therefore, Cloud simulators are an essential tool for academic and industrial researchers, to investigate on the effectiveness of novel algorithms and mechanisms in large-scale scenarios. This article unveils CloudSim7G, the seventh generation of CloudSim, one of the first simulators specialized in evaluating resource management techniques for Cloud infrastructures. In particular, CloudSim7G features a re-engineered and generalized internal architecture to facilitate the integration of multiple CloudSim extensions, which were previously available independently and often had compatibility issues, within the same simulated environment. Such architectural change is coupled with an extensive refactoring and refinement of the codebase, leading to the removal of over 13,000 lines of code without loss of functionality. As a result, CloudSim7G delivers significantly better performance in both run-time and total memory allocated (up to ~20% less heap memory allocated), along with increased flexibility, ease-of-use, and extensibility of the framework. To coordinate resources among multi-level stakeholders and enhance the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into multi-microgrids, this study proposes an optimal dispatch strategy within a multi-microgrid cooperative alliance using a nuanced two-stage pricing mechanism. Initially, the strategy assesses electric energy interactions between microgrids and distribution networks to establish a foundation for collaborative scheduling. The two-stage pricing mechanism initiates with a leader-follower game, wherein the microgrid operator acts as the leader and users as followers. Subsequently, it adjusts EV tariffs based on the game's equilibrium, taking into account factors such as battery degradation and travel needs to optimize EVs' electricity consumption. Furthermore, a bi-level optimization model refines power interactions and pricing strategies across the network, significantly enhancing demand response capabilities and economic outcomes. Spatial reasoning in Large Language Models (LLMs) is the foundation for embodied intelligence. However, even in simple maze environments, LLMs still encounter challenges in long-term path-planning, primarily influenced by their spatial hallucination and context inconsistency hallucination by long-term reasoning. To address this challenge, this study proposes an innovative model, Spatial-to-Relational Transformation and Curriculum Q-Learning (S2RCQL). To address the spatial hallucination of LLMs, we propose the Spatial-to-Relational approach, which transforms spatial prompts into entity relations and paths representing entity relation chains. This approach fully taps the potential of LLMs in terms of sequential thinking. As a result, we design a path-planning algorithm based on Q-learning to mitigate the context inconsistency hallucination, which enhances the reasoning ability of LLMs. Using the Q-value of state-action as auxiliary information for prompts, we correct the hallucinations of LLMs, thereby guiding LLMs to learn the optimal path. Finally, we propose a reverse curriculum learning technique based on LLMs to further mitigate the context inconsistency hallucination. LLMs can rapidly accumulate successful experiences by reducing task difficulty and leveraging them to tackle more complex tasks. We performed comprehensive experiments based on Baidu's self-developed LLM: ERNIE-Bot 4.0. To date, the International Zeolite Association Structure Commission (IZA-SC) has cataloged merely 255 distinct zeolite structures, with millions of theoretically possible structures yet to be discovered. The synthesis of a specific zeolite typically necessitates the use of an organic structure-directing agent (OSDA), since the selectivity for a particular zeolite is largely determined by the affinity between the OSDA and the zeolite. Therefore, finding the best affinity OSDA-zeolite pair is the key to the synthesis of targeted zeolite. However, OSDA-zeolite pairs frequently exhibit complex geometric structures, i.e., a complex crystal structure formed by a large number of atoms. Although some existing machine learning methods can represent the periodicity of crystals, they cannot accurately represent crystal structures with local variability. To address this issue, we propose a novel approach called Zeoformer, which can effectively represent coarse-grained crystal periodicity and fine-grained local variability. Zeoformer reconstructs the unit cell centered around each atom and encodes the pairwise distances between this central atom and other atoms within the reconstructed unit cell. The introduction of pairwise distances within the reconstructed unit cell more effectively represents the overall structure of the unit cell and the differences between different unit cells, enabling the model to more accurately and efficiently predict the properties of OSDA-zeolite pairs and general crystal structures. Through comprehensive evaluation, our Zeoformer model demonstrates the best performance on OSDA-zeolite pair datasets and two types of crystal material datasets., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures
