In this study, patient is having many complaints such as B/L knee joint pain & joint stiffness, local warmness & swelling over both knee, anorexia, dryness of mouth, fever (on & off ) etc. Patient was given Ayurvedic medicines such asSihnad Guggul, AmavatariRasa, Erand snehaandShunthi jalwith local application ofVishagarbha tailandWaluka pottali Sweda. Patient was feeling much better than earlier and she felt that about 80% of her symptoms got decreased. From the modern aspect, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID`S) and disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD`S) are the main stay in this condition, however they have serious adverse effects and have limitations for long term therapy. Continuous use of allopathic drugs leads to symptoms like constipation, nausea, abdominal discomfort. So we stopped the allopathic medicine and started above mentioned Ayurvedic treatment and gradually alleviated above symptoms.

Considering these inconveniences, alternatives are being searched from traditional systems. Ayurveda through its armamentarium can provide leads in the management of this condition that is similar toAmavatain its clinical presentation. A 42-year-old female with diagnosed history of RA was treated byAyurvedic medicines then improvement was observed in the overall effect of therapy.

In present time, lifestyle disorders are rapidly rising in our society. Over consumption of food, alcohol and fructose sweetened soft drinks in combination with a sedentary lifestyle has resulted in increased prevalence of visceral obesity, metabolic syndrome and gout in all socioeconomic groups of society including the lower socioeconomic status. Gout is one of the major life style disorders. The clinical manifestation and textual references of gout may be attributed with 'Vatarakta', also known as Vatashonita. Vata and Rakta are the Dosha and Dushya respectively which are primarily involved in the pathology of Vatarakta. Virudhaahar and Vihara aggravate Vata dosha and Rakta dhatu. Provocated Vata gets Aavrut with vitiated Rakta dhatu leading to the beginning of pathophysiological cascade of Vatarakta. The patients for this study were diagnosed based on Ayurvedic and modern parameters. Clinical signs and symptoms described in classical texts were considered for the diagnosis of Vatarakta, whereas serum uric acid was considered as investigation based diagnostic tool. Total 15 patients were registered in trial. The selected patients were given the trial drug i.e., Amrita guggulu one gram and Guduchi kwath 50ml twice a day with plain water after food. Out of 15 registered patients, 1 dropout from the trial, 4 patients (28.57%) showed marked improvement, 7 patients i.e., 50% showed moderate improvement and 3 patients 21.43% showed mild improvement. None of patient in present clinical trial remained unimproved or deteriorated during the clinical trials. In the present study, none of the patient reported any adverse effect to the trial drug during study and follow up period.

PurposeDespite immigrant-receiving countries' need for skilled professionals to meet labour demands, research suggests that many skilled migrants undergo deskilling, downward career mobility, underemployment, unemployment and talent waste, finding themselves in low-skilled occupations that are not commensurate to their education and experience. Skilled immigrant women face additional gendered disadvantages, including a disproportionate domestic burden, interrupted careers and gender segmentation in occupations and organizations. This study explores how the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic impacted skilled newcomer women's labour market outcomes and work experiences.Design/methodology/approachThe authors draw on 50 in-depth questionnaires with skilled women to elaborate on their work experiences during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.FindingsThe pandemic pushed skilled immigrant women towards unemployment, lower-skilled or less stable employment. Most study participants had their career trajectory delayed, interrupted or reversed due to layoffs, decreased job opportunities and increased domestic burden. The pandemic's gendered nature and the reliance on work-from-home arrangements and online job search heightened immigrant women's challenges due to limited social support and increased family responsibilities.Originality/valueThis paper adds to the conversation of increased integration challenges under pandemic conditions by contextualizing the pre-pandemic literature on immigrant work integration to the pandemic environment. Also, this paper contributes a better understanding of the gender dynamics informing the COVID-19 socio-economic climate.

Kamala is a one among the Rakta Pradoshaja Vikara, where there is aversion towards all desires. Two types of Kamala are mentioned in Ayurvedic classics viz Kostashakhashrita Kamala and Shakhashrita Kamala. Kostashakhashrita Kamala in its definition includes the condition which is mentioned as viral hepatitis in western system of medicine. The treatment modalities described in Ayurveda for Kostashakhashrita Kamala include both Shodhana and Shamana. This study is an attempt to evaluate the efficacy of Nimba, Amrita, Bhumyamalaki, Bhringaraja and Katuki (NABBK) Kashaya and compare its efficacy with that of Nimba, Amrita, Bhumyamalaki, Bhringaraja (NABB) Swarasa with Katuki Churna in Kostashakhashrita Kamala vis-à-vis Viral Hepatitis. Overall difference between two groups showed statistically non-significant result with ‘p’ value 0.953.

Objective: This study aims in understanding the effects of Integrated Amrita Meditation (IAM), a type of mindfulness meditation, on the autonomic balance of type 2 diabetic patients through assessment of heart rate variability (HRV). Methods: After the initial screening of 30 type 2 diabetic subjects, 10 type 2 diabetic subjects between the age group of 30 and 65 years were randomized into two groups, diabetic test (n=5) and diabetic control group (n=5). Diabetic test group practiced IAM technique under the guidance of a trained practitioner. Both the groups continued the same dietary pattern and medications during the 6-month study period. HRV was taken for all subjects at baseline and after 6 months. In our study, we have focused on the power spectral analysis of HRV which include normalized units of high frequency (nHF), low frequency (nLF), and low frequency-high frequency ratio (LF/HF ratio). In this paper we present our experiences in designing, developing and deploying the essential components of effective disaster relief technology using the crowdsourced approach, based on our disaster relief platform named Amrita Kripa. We present both the technical and humanitarian aspects of Amrita Kripa. Amrita Kripa has been used in providing disaster relief during both 2018 and 2019 Kerala floods. We also share some of the feedback from various users during the disaster and how the feedback helped Amrita Kripa to evolve into a flexible, user-friendly and effective disaster relief platform. We also present a comprehensive comparison with other relief applications based on the crowdsourced approach.

Background & objectives: Several studies on mind-body relaxation techniques have demonstrated a reduction in psychological stress levels. Implementation of such cost-effective, persons suffering from chronic disorders would be beneficial for the diabetic population. This study was undertaken to understand the effect of Integrated Amrita Meditation® technique (IAM®) technique on stress and its benefit in attaining a better glycaemic control. Methods: Thirty type 2 diabetic patients aged between 30 and 65 yr were consecutively recruited for the study. They were randomly allocated to IAM® and control groups. Weight, body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and perceived stress scale (PSS) were the variables assessed pre- and post-intervention during the three-month study period. Amrita Awareness Ambassador Program is a substance-abuse prevention program that aims to empower local youth in rural India. The program empowers and promotes peer mentors from local schools to act as awareness ambassadors. The program is already active in 13 states. To adapt the program to new villages, substance abuse prevalence in the considered region has to be assessed first. One difficulty of such an initial assessment, especially in tribal areas, is that villagers often answer questions about substance abuse in an inconsistent and unreliable way when talking to outsiders. This paper reports on findings from a remote, tribal area in Chhattisgarh, where 132 adolescents and 11 awareness ambassadors were asked about the prevalence of abuse of alcohol and other substances. Four types of statistical consistency are considered in the analysis: internal, external, individual, and dimensionality consistency. Statements from the awareness ambassadors are found to be significantly more internally and externally consistent and reliable than statements from the village adolescents. In addition, statements from the awareness ambassadors also show high inter-rater and dimensionality consistency. As an implication of these findings, we conclude that while planning a substance abuse program, reliability of the information sources needs to be taken into explicit consideration.

Cambodian classical dance is very much alive thanks to the efforts of the few artists who survived the genocide either by sheer luck or by hiding their true identities. There are 20 forms of Cambodian dance, theatre and music, most of which were represented by the small community of surviving artists, all of whom were obviously committed to resurrecting the remnants of their particular area of expertise with little or no resources, within an infrastructure that was in utter shambles. Amrita Performing Arts has been an active player in helping to lay the groundwork for the delicate process in the ongoing dialogue on the development of contemporary dance in Cambodia. Chey Chankethya is a young master of the female role and a teacher at Phnom Penh’s Secondary School of Fine Arts. Kethya was part of a three-month dance management programme at UCLA in 2006 and since then has emerged as one of the strongest leaders in Cambodia’s dance community.

In many Indian rural schools, individual students do not receive adequate attention due to the high student–teacher ratio. It is anonerous task for teachers to assess their students’ knowledge levels, and identify their deficient areas of learning. An Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) enables the teacher to create a report on topics, which students need to study in more detail. Knowledge tracing approaches are a good option for the generation of such reports. For the current paper, we analyze first-grade students from 28 schools, who use Amrita Learning, an ITS developed by Amrita University. There were 211,275 responses obtained in a single academic year. The performance of three knowledge tracing approaches were compared using this dataset: standard Bayesian Knowledge Tracing, Feature-Aware Student Knowledge Tracing (FAST) and Hidden Markov Model (HMM). We find that the HMM approach marginally outperforms the other two methods.

This article examines the concepts of Amrita and develops the Khechari Mudra one by integrating such concepts of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism and Hindu Tantrism with the developments of existential phenomenology. It goes from the phenomenology of the mind to the phenomenology of Being in the works of Heidegger, Eugene Fink, Maurice Merleau Ponty, and other phenomenologists. The result of the study is to access the influence of print and digital media among the engineering students and other disciplines of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. For the purpose of data collection, questionnaires were distributed among 250 students of the University. The findings reveal that more students are digitally literate and engaged with both print and electronic media. The study realized the convenience of online reading to print media. Students are found engaged to online media more. One of the significant finding of the study is that students prefer print sources to comprehend better than from online media. Email and internet browsing were the most preferred services used every day by the majority of respondents. Majority of the users had laptop and smartphones for internet access. Regular evaluation and assessment have to be conducted to determine whether the print media and digital resources are effectively used by the students and also to find their changing needs. The study makes stress on the value of the printed word for learning and academic development.

The main goal of this article is the exploration of immortality as a process of not ending life. Different forms of immortality are analyzed: metaphysical, genetic, digital and individual ones. The author explored a phenomenon of immortality in culture, starting from an ancient times till today. The phenomenon of elixir of immortality is explored with his relation to different cultures: ancient Greek, ancient India, ancient Iran and ancient Germany. In all of those cultures we can see the same motives about immortality with a little of variation in form. For example, it may be some ‘magical drink’ like in case of Ambrosia in ancient Greece or it may be a food like Amrita in India or Chaoma in Iran. The accent is moved from negative to positive feeling of immortality. The examples of great historical individualities which spend their lives looking for a technology of immortality are listed. Among them author listed Quin Shi Huang Di, a Chinese emperor spent a lot of resources in search of eternal life. One more emperor of China – Xuanzong finished his life after experiments with an immortality elixir. In Europe this topic is discovered inside movement of Alchemists – semi-scientific activists which believed in enternal life. Isaac Newton, one of the creators of modern science also believed in immortality and spend a bunch of time looking for a way to achieve it. The physical possibility of eternal life is analyzed. According to Richard Feynman’s quote, there’s no physical limitation which make impossible an internal life. Transhumanists use and develop this theoretical possibility into practical solutions. The recent years have witnessed an increased interest in the relationship between spirituality and entrepreneurship (Godwin, Neck, & D’Intino, Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion 13(1):1–17, 2016). This chapter explores the role of spirituality in social entrepreneurship illustrated through a case study of Amrita SeRVe, a nonprofit organization nestled in the backwaters of Kerala, India. Vibrating with spiritual dynamism and a deep sense of love and concern for others Amrita SeRVe thrives under a woman leader touching the lives of thousands. The chapter begins with an investigation into the meaning of spirituality and the distinguishing characteristics of women’s spirituality. The concepts are further elaborated by a conceptual model developed through a qualitative pilot research explaining the outcome of spirituality as a drive to the realization of empowerment for women leaders and the value of love in the process. My experiential understanding of working at Amrita SeRVe under the leadership of a spiritual woman resonates deeply with the conceptual model. The chapter delves into the conundrums of realizing meaning and purpose at one’s work environment, the value of love as the core principle of an organization, and its practical implications for social change.

India, the country with the fastest growing economy, has been unable to provide most of its population with proper shelter. According to a survey from the homeless world cup foundation, worldwide there are 1.6 billion peoples living without adequate homes. This is primarily because of multidimensional poverty, construction cost and lack of resources for construction. In the rural sectors of India there is an abundance of low income and tribal people living in unsanitary homes with low living standards. A group of researchers from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University) has embarked on a project to create a system to develop a semi-automation construction system, which will reduce construction costs and which uses readily available materials, making it possible for low income and tribal peoples to construct basic homes in India’s urban, rural and tribal areas. The system has additional benefits such as low carbon emissions, a reduction in material wastage, reduced human labor, as well as increased efficiency and rate of production. Basic huts can be built using our semi-automation construction system; and can be constructed within a single day. The conceptual design of this system is the focus of this paper. Our intention is to introduce a semi-automation construction system that improves upon current technology and serves as a humanitarian tool. This system promises to improve lives by providing access to quality housing with easy construction and low cost. The paper presents the design and development of the semi-automation construction system and its value as a new introduction in the construction field.

This paper presents the findings of a critical review of studies focusing on the awareness of the villagers in Sarai Nooruddinpur in UP health and hygiene practices, which was conducted as a part of “Live-in-Labs®” at Amrita. It was found that the people of the village do not prioritize their health over other things. There is a huge lack of awareness about health. The village does not have proper health facilities. In parallel, throughout the village, the systems of health care delivery and financing are increasingly subject to resource constraints. We interviewed almost 25 villagers and it is found that health is the major problem of the village. From our continuous observations and analysis we experienced the poor health care facilities in the village. Our study of poor health care facilities in the village was substantiated with continuous observations and analysis of related fields and players.

The present study is in identifying the learning behavior of the students of Amritha Viswavidyapeedam, Coimbatore. The students exhibit different levels of behavior, styles, and attitude. The study concentrates on various factors that regulate and influence their academic performance as well. For the purpose of data collection, questionnaires were distributed among 250 students of the University. The findings reveal the individual learning styles and preferences to personalize the learning environment. The study reveals – A deep learner, always prefer print media and can transform the facts with good output, on the other hand, A Shallow Reader prefers electronic media only. The study emphasizes the core values of behavior for academic and personal excellence.

Prospective students, parents, researchers and academicians refer the website to in order to get relevant answers to their query. In order to retrieve an answer for their query one to has to spend a lot of time searching through the website, reading through several subpages available and consolidating the relevant information. This paper presents a model to retrieve concise and irredundant answers to various questions / queries regarding an educational institution -Amrita School of Engineering. Our model uses various Natural Language Processing (NLP) based techniques for text summarization to give appropriate results. Hybrid similarity measure and clustering algorithm are used for retrieving relevant data and removing redundancy respectively. Our model was tested by many users and the results were accurate in 86% of the cases.

Background Vatarakta vis-à-vis gout is a common condition in both primary care and specialist practice. Gout is a systemic disease characterized by manifestations of chronic under­lying hyperuricemia, resulting in the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in various tissues. Gout is the most common of the crystal induced arthritis due to disturbed uric acid metabolism and precipitation of urate crystals in extracellular space of joints, periarticular tissue, bones, and other organs. Aim and objective To explore the therapeutic efficacy and safety of Amrita Guggulu and Pinda Taila in the management of hyperuricemia in gout (Vatarakta) patients. Materials and methods A total of 100 cases (25–65 years) of primary gouty arthritis fulfilling the diagnostic criteria as recommended by the American College of Rheumatology were selected for the present study from outpatient department of the Central Ayurveda Research Institute for Respiratory Disorders Patiala and Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Urinary Disorders, Jammu, India, irrespective of their sex, religion, and socioeconomic status. Only those patients who presented themselves with at least 6 of 12 criteria of American College of Rheumatology (1977) were selected for the clinical trial. Amrita Guggulu was given 1000 mg twice daily orally and Pinda Taila was applied locally 10 mL twice daily for 84 days. Results The trial therapy was assessed based on the improvement in clinical features, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score, Patient's Global Assessment Scale score, Physician's Global Assessment Scale Score, SF-36 Health Survey Score for quality of life (QOL), and biochemical parameters. Each patient was subjected to routine blood test, serum uric acid, liver function tests, and renal function tests before treatment, after 28 days of treatment, and after 84 days of treatment. The trial combination showed statistically significant improvement in the clinical manifestations, QOL as well as reduction in marker of hyperuricemia, i.e., serum uric acid; the mean serum uric acid at the baseline was 7.76 mg/dL, which was reduced to 6.50 mg/dL after the trial period of 84 days. There was also decrease in the level of VAS score, Patient's Global Assessment Scale score, and Physician's Global Assessment Scale score. There were no impairment in liver function test and renal function test, indicating the good safety profile of trial therapy. Conclusion Hence, Amrita Guggulu and Pinda Taila drug combination is an effective and safe remedy for gouty arthritis (Vatarakta) patients. Before 18th and 19th century, it was considered that women have no role in environmental conservation and promotion, as well as they were avoided in all major sphere of social life. But after spreading awareness about their rights and duties and taking cognizance of their surrounding they consciously tried to raise voice against environment degradation. Women had launched numbers of movement in demanding of better protection of natural resources and environment conservation. Like in India, Amrita Devi had sacrificed their life for protection of the trees that was going to fell down by commercial logger in Uttarakhand. Other women like Vandana Shiva have also contributed in environment conservation and protection. They had organized women and people through the Navdanya movement of 1982. Growing population and technological advancement are continuously putting a strain on the environment and on country’s natural resources. Over-exploitation of the country’s resources like land, water, fuel etc. has resulted in degradation of resources mainly due to industrial pollution, soil erosion, deforestation and urbanization. Therefore, conservation of natural resources and promotion of environment cannot be done without involving the women in planning and training for promoting the values for conservation and promotion of environment. Hence, attempt has been made to assess the role of women in conservation and promotion of environment along with suitable strategy for the same.
