1. Fabrication of SrTiO3 anchored rGO/g-C3N4 photocatalyst for the removal of mixed dye from wastewater: dual photocatalytic mechanism

Abstract: Abstract A metal-free combination of rGO/g-C3N4-coupled SrTiO3 (SRN) ternary nanocomposite prepared via a wet impregnation method for UV–Vis light photocatalytic applications. Various physicochemical properties of the samples were investigated by several spectroscopic techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, Raman, field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (FE-SEM-EDX), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), UV–Vis, photoluminescence (PL), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis. The data suggest agglomerated SRT nanoparticles are dispersed and distributed throughout the surface of the rGO sheets and GCN nanostructures. The photocatalytic performance of the SRN towards combined mixed dye and its degradation activities were evaluated towards the most common industrial effluents, Rhodamine B (RhB) and Methylene blue (MB), under UV–Vis light illumination. The results revealed that the degradation efficiency of the SRN photocatalyst shows excellent performance compared with that of the binary composition and the pure SrTiO3 (SRT) sample. The reaction rate constant for RhB was estimated to be 0.0039 min−1 and for MB to be 0.0316 min−1, which are 3.26 (RhB) and 4.21 (MB) times faster than the pure SRT sample. The enhanced degradation efficiency was attained not only by interfacial formation but also by the speedy transportation of electrons across the heterojunction. After 5 runs of the photocatalytic recylic process, the SRN photocatalyst exhibited ultimate stability without structural changes, and no noticeable degradation was observed. The outcomes of the ternary SRN nanocomposite manifest a dual photocatalytic scheme, the photocatalytic enrichment could be caused by the Z-scheme charge transfer process between GCN, SRT, and rGO nanocomposite, which helps effectual charge separation and keeps a high redox potential. From the results, SRN sample provides insight into the integration of an effective and potential photocatalyst for wastewater treatment toward real-time environmental remediation applications.

2. Evaluation of Melatonin and Antioxidant Levels in the Serum of Breast Cancer Patients

Abstract: Metabolites and antioxidants can be altered in patients with various diseases, particularly in those with cancer. This study aims to measure melatonin and total antioxidant levels in the serum of breast cancer patients and compare them with a healthy control group. Both groups had serum samples collected at 2:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Melatonin levels were determined using High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), while total antioxidant levels were assessed by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Levels of melatonin and total antioxidants differed between the groups. In the control group, the levels of melatonin and total antioxidants were considerably greater compared to the diagnostic group, with a p-value of 0.001. Melatonin and total antioxidant levels were consistently greater at 2:00 than at 9:00. The maximum melatonin levels recorded in the diagnostic and control groups were 39.3 pg/mL and 65.9 pg/mL, respectively. Melatonin levels varied based on the age of the participants, with higher amounts observed in younger participants compared to older people in both groups. The BMI affected the levels of melatonin, with a greater BMI leading to elevated melatonin concentrations. The diagnostic group had a total antioxidant level of 39.3 pg/mL, while the control group had a level of 65.9 pg/mL. The elevated levels of melatonin and total antioxidants in the control group indicate a healthy status. The research demonstrated a significant correlation between melatonin and antioxidant levels in breast cancer patients, with reduced melatonin levels and total antioxidant levels in the diagnosed group. Elevated BMI was linked to reduced melatonin levels.

Abstract: Heat shock protein (HSP90) is a molecular chaperone involved in numerous physiological processes. The primary role of this is to assist in the process of protein folding and to restore misfolded proteins to their correct shape. Chaperones additionally inhibit protein breakdown and aggregation. HSP90 inhibitors possess a notable characteristic of obstructing many cancer-causing pathways by facilitating the breakdown of numerous oncogenic client proteins. Targeting HSP90 therapeutics has been recognized as a viable approach for treating cancer and inflammatory-associated disorders in clinical studies involving different forms of cancer. Inhibition of HSP90 using natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic chemicals has shown encouraging outcomes. HSP90 inhibitors have been extracted from several fungi, bacteria, and plant species. These naturally occurring chemicals play a crucial function in regulating HSP90 activity and can be utilized to develop innovative semi-synthetic or synthetic inhibitors. Over 120 clinical trials have been carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of HSP90 inhibitors as a supplementary therapy for different types of tumor cells. Presently, ongoing research is being carried out to acquire an understanding of innovative and more efficacious methods for treating cancer. Continuing in this research approach, we aim to investigate the discovery, biosynthesis, mechanism of action, and biological features of geldanamycin and its analogs.

5. Remote learning during COVID-19 and transformative learning theory: tendency towards Quadruple Helix model for future post-secondary education in Indigenous contexts

Abstract: Abstract This paper aims to examine UCN (University College of the North) students’ remote learning experience during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide a reference for future remote education in Indigenous contexts. Survey data are used for empirical analysis of the five themes: socio-demographic contexts; social activities, stress, and well-being; academic performance; course delivery; and student support services. Transformative learning theory and Quadruple Helix Model are used as a framework to explore the breadth and depth of such five themes. As the descriptive study shows, the majority of UCN students are over 25 years old and study in their first and second year with major challenges such as Internet connectivity, private space, and interruption. Mean values reveal that the remote learning performance is determined by concerns about COVID-19 infection, mental and physical health, isolation and lack of socio-cultural activities, students’ self-preparedness and motivation, and support services. The regression analysis shows that students’ concerns about COVID-19 infection interference with course completion are directly affected by their worries about themselves or someone in their families who could be exposed to COVID-19, their mental health, and blended course delivery. Therefore, students’ remote learning performance and their well-being will be enhanced if we take into consideration improving social distancing, educational technology, and course delivery with community–university culturally responsive collaboration. The research findings and the reviewed literature attest that transformative learning theory fits UCN’s remote learning practices to meet educational goals through the university–community collaboration, which is supported by the Quadruple Helix model. As a result, such remote learning practices engage students, particularly Indigenous students, and the practices will help upgrade universities with similar attributes globally into Mode 3 universities, contributing to community economic development.

6. The Role of Citicoline in Neuroprotection and Neuro Repair in Acute Stroke

Abstract: Objective: To determine the efficacy and safety of Citicoline in acute stroke. Study Design: Comparative cross-sectional study. Place of Study and Duration: Combined Military Hospital, Jhelum Pakistan, from Dec 2017 to May 2018. Methodology: Thirty patients with a new onset of stroke, either ischemic or hemorrhagic, were included in the study. This sample of the population was further categorized into four Groups based on the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale scoring system. Half of the patients were medicated with Citicoline and standard stroke treatment and were examined as cases. The rest of the patients were treated with standard stroke management alone and were examined as Controls. The baseline guidelines of the patients were assessed by the Canadian Neurological Stroke Scale. However, for ease of comparison, the CNSS was converted into the National Institute of Health Stoke Scale using the following formula: NIHSS=23-2xCNSS. Results: In our study, baseline improvement in NIHSS score was higher in the Citicoline Group than in the Control Group(68% in the case Group vs. 53% in the Control Group). There was a 30% drop in NIHSS score in Cases compared to the ControlGroup (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study could not prove the effectiveness of Citicoline despite a favourable improvement in NIHSS score in cases. Though Citicoline is a well-tolerated and safe drug, it is ineffective in improving neurological outcomes in patients with acute stroke.

7. 3D- ABAQUS Modelling of Prestressed Concrete Hunched Beams with Multi-Openings of Different Shapes

Abstract: A long-span Prestressed Concrete Hunched Beam with Multi-Opening has been developed as an alternative to steel structural elements. The commercial finite element package ABAQUS/CAE version 2019 has been utilized. This article has presented the results of three-dimensional numerical simulations investigating the flexural behaviour of existing experimental work of supported Prestressed Concrete Hunched Beams with multiple openings of varying shapes under static monotonic loads. Insertion openings in such a beam lead to concentrate stresses at the corners of these openings; as a result, extensive cracking would appear. Correlation between numerical models and empirical work has also been discussed regarding load displacement and crack development, and the obtained outcomes demonstrate a good agreement with the experiments. The ratio of ultimate loads and deflection of the beams tested in the investigation to those of numerical models was 0.98 and 0.97, respectively. So, finite element analysis can be regarded as a behaviour-trustworthy technique for simulating the non-linear behaviour of prestressed concrete rafters with multi-openings from the point of view of complexity, hardly, time-keeping, human effort, and cost.

Abstract: Preferring geoeconomics over geopolitics is trending globally, and Pakistan is also an aspirant to join the suit. In this regard, various factors influence Pakistan's shift towards geoeconomics, including economic interests, regional dynamics, domestic considerations, and external influences. Pakistan must make confident choices despite the challenges posed by its geography and world politics. Although its domestic economy is struggling and requires urgent attention, BRI and CPEC offer a promising opportunity for Pakistan to strengthen its economy. However, the impact of CPEC has been limited due to regional constraints and can only be realised once regional connectivity and trade and energy routes are completed and operationalised. The West has also launched its B3W initiative, recognising China's advantage in connectivity. They have warned against joining BRI, claiming it is a debt trap strategy. This paper argues that at this critical juncture of a geo-economic pivot, Pakistan must re-evaluate its choices and focus on developing its economy while prioritising economic development. It also examines the options available to Pakistan to facilitate this geoeconomic pivot effectively. The choices and their implications are likely to be persuaded by geopolitical constraints. 9. The simulation of flood hydrograph under uncertain conditions of rainfall extreme values in different return periods: A case study on Gharesoo basin

Abstract: Flood is inherently an uncertain phenomenon and the certainty and credibility of flood forecasting and warning systems will cause errors regardless of the sources of uncertainty. Extreme rainfall events are one of the most important input data to rainfall-runoff models, which always have uncertainty. Considering this issue the uncertainty of the design flood hydrograph can be investigated for different return periods. In this research first to simulate the flood hydrograph the HEC-HMS model was calibrated and validated based on the hourly flood hydrographs recorded at the basin outlet. Historical data were collected on the 24-hour maximum rainfall of Gharesoo Basin stations with 30-year statistics and the affected basins were identified. Then in each station 30 series of 30 years of artificial data with a maximum 24-hour rainfall were produced. For each of these produced stochastic series the best statistical distribution was fitted and in each series extreme values with a return period of 25 50 100 and 1000 years were calculated. Finally in each return period by combining 30 different amounts of rainfall obtained from stochastic series, the uncertainty bandwidth of the flood hydrograph was obtained during this return period. The results indicated that the highest predicted peak discharge for different return periods was between 1.2 and 1.7 times the historically recorded discharge during that return period. 10. A Study of the Relationship of Learning Styles of Undergraduate Medical Students to Academic Achievements

Abstract: Objective: To find out whether learning styles influence the academic achievements of students of medical schools. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, from Jun 2018 to Jun 2019. Methodology: Two hundred medical students participated in the study by completing VARK (visual, aural, read/write, kinaesthetic) questionnaire. The learning styles were assessed based on the questionnaire. The performance grades were obtained from the students' Department of the college. Results: Most students preferred unimodal learning 104(52%). However, there was a statistically significant gender difference. Most male students preferred unimodal learning (62.7%), whereas female students preferred bimodal (41.4%) learning styles. Aural learning was the most prevalent in the unimodal group 42(21%) in both male and female groups. The academic achievement was labelled as low (50% marks). There were 72.5% (n=145) of highachievers. More male students were high-achievers than female students (80.5% vs. 68.4%). There was no significant relationship between learning style and academic outcome. Conclusion: There was no difference in the outcome of academic achievement in subgroups of different learning styles. Further analysis revealed no gender differences in the effect of learning style on academic achievement.

11. Combatting the escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance in Pakistan: urgent call for prioritization and commitment in decision-making

Abstract: An eighteen years old boy, who underwent atrial septal defect closure and patent ductus arteriosus ligation eight months ago at a tertiary care facility, is roaming from one clinic to another for the treatment of an un-resolving infection. This year is 2023 and a significant portion of all the tertiary care facilities don’t have either a proper clinical microbiology laboratory or a properly trained clinical microbiologist for proper diagnostic support to these clinicians. These undiagnosed infections or substandard reports from laboratories further push for the use of a variety of antibiotics without indications, promoting antimicrobial resistance (AMR), adding cost to the care and poor outcomes. The global burden of AMR is rising at an alarming pace and accounts for 700,000 deaths annually. The situation will be worse in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where its spread has more favourable conditions.1 The issue is not as simple and straight forward as it appears, it’s the result of years of poor planning for the safety of the patients, leading to gaps in education, infrastructure, equipment, resources and human workforce. In May 2015, a global action plan on AMR was adopted by World Health Assembly during its 68th session and urged its member states to implement the suggested action plan and adapt to their national priorities.2 Like other countries, Pakistan took the initiative by developing National Strategic Framework for Containment of AMR in 2016. This was followed by development of AMR National Action Plan of Pakistan in 2017,3 but unfortunately the federating units have yet to take concrete steps on ground in most instances for its successful implementation. Health care associated infections is becoming the most serious threat to all the patients who are requiring surgeries, intensive care or any sort of inpatient care and unfortunately almost all of these infections are caused by pathogens which are highly resistant and the risk of mortality is increased many folds.4 Similarly, due to poor water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) arrangements in the communities, uncontrolled use of antibiotics in veterinary and agriculture multidrug resistance pathogens are increasing at an alarming rate.5 The extensive drug resistance (XDR) salmonella spread in different cities of the country is a living example where even communities living in the so-called posh townships are affected and is still ongoing with ever increasing numbers infected on daily basis.6 The true picture of the whole situation in LMICs is further blurred due to poor surveillance systems in the community, public sector and private health care facilities. Collecting the data and sharing it with decision makers is an uphill task due to lack of commitment and sustainable solution to the problem, the donor funded projects lack mechanisms to internalize the support to make it a continuous process and usually vanish away with time. The fate of many high-tech procedures and treatment modalities is grossly compromised due to poor infection prevention and control practices, spread of multidrug organisms and non-availability of antimicrobials. Sepsis related mortality is the highest in poor countries and the contributory factors are many but the most important factor is lack of diagnostic microbiology support in many instances followed by lack of appropriate guidance for management. The fear of complicated outcomes due to these infections has gradually changed the prescription behaviours of the prescribers who are resorting to the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics even for simple ailments. This inadvertent use is resulting in further selective evolutionary pressure and promotion of resistance among the microorganisms.7 One of the modalities that is in use for many years in the developed world is the institutional antibiotic stewardship program that has shown to contain AMR but requires stronger organizational cultures for compliance across the board and a well-equipped microbiology support. In LMICs the best options to start with is to follow the WHO AWaRe (Access, Watch and Reserve)8 classification during antibiotics prescription in true spirit and implement it in the health care. Clinical microbiology laboratories play a critical role by providing essential information for accurately diagnosing and treating patients with infectious diseases in a timely manner, conduct surveillance on local AMR trends among microbial pathogens and helps in developing regional antibiogram. These regional antibiogram are important for developing clinical practice guidelines based on local data and there are chances of significant variation between the regions hence can’t be substituted for each other. There is also a misconception about the public health laboratories vs clinical laboratories in the country, most of the policy makers and managers believe that these are the same and are focusing primarily on the public health laboratories and assume as if these are clinical laboratories as well.9 This has grossly compromised our approach towards strengthening of the clinical laboratories in the healthcare system. Both of these laboratories are having separate mandates and importance and should be kept separate. The clinical laboratory helps a clinician in managing an individual and the public health lab guide about the prevention and control, epidemiologic investigations and serves as reference infectious disease labs for the clinical laboratories. The field of AMR is so fluid that it’s always challenging for physicians to manage infections due to multidrug resistance organisms and constantly new recommendations are added10 hence it’s recommended that the National Action Plan be implemented in each region, develop proper diagnostic laboratories at each tertiary care facility which is accredited and subsidise the costs by provision of disposable supplies and fixing the price, develop local evidence based Antibiotic stewardship modalities and seek infectious disease consultation where ever available for proper guidance. The acute shortage of the human resource for these specialties can be improved by telemedicine in short-term and incentivising these specialities as other rare specialities in the long-term.

12. Exploring the trade facilitation role of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs): A comparison of BRICS and the Next Eleven economies

Abstract: The present study assesses the trade facilitating role of regional trade agreements (RTAs) of BRICS and the Next Eleven (N-11) economies using annual bilateral trade over the period 2000–2019. For empirical estimation, we applied structural gravity with Poisson pseudo maximum likelihood estimator. The findings show higher effect of the RTAs for imports compared to exports for both BRICS and the N-11 countries. While the RTAs of BRICS countries mostly facilitate exports of metals, chemical products, plastic and rubber; the RTAs’ role is more pronounced for the exports of animal products, cereals, fruits, vegetable, in addition to labor intensive industries such as textile, footwear, and leather in the N-11 economies. Furthermore, the findings show that the adjustment in the exporting process in response the entry of an FTA is affected by the governance quality prevailing in the source country. In this context, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, and Pakistan particularly need to improve governance quality to spur their export performance.

13. Sediment load forecasting of Gobindsagar reservoir using machine learning techniques

Abstract: With ever advancing computer technology in machine learning, sediment load prediction inside the reservoirs has been computed using various artificially intelligent techniques. The sediment load in the catchment region of Gobindsagar reservoir of India is forecasted in this study utilizing the data collected for years 1971–2003 using several models of intelligent algorithms. Firstly, multi-layered perceptron artificial neural network (MLP-ANN), basic recurrent neural network (RNN), and other RNN based models including long-short term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU) are implemented to validate and predict the sediment load inside the reservoir. The proposed machine learning models are validated for Gobindsagar reservoir using three influencing factors on yearly basis [rainfall (Ra), water inflow (Iw), and the storage capacity (Cr)]. The results demonstrate that the suggested MLP-ANN, RNN, LSTM, and GRU models produce better results with maximum errors reduced from 24.6% to 8.05%, 7.52%, 1.77%, and 0.05% respectively. For future prediction of the sediment load for next 22 years, the influencing factors were first predicted for next 22 years using ETS forecasting model with the help of data collected for 33 years. Additionally, it was noted that each prediction’s error was lower than that of the reference model. Furthermore, it was concluded that the GRU model predicts better results than the reference model and its alternatives. Secondly, by comparing the prediction precision of all the machine learning models established in this study, it can be evidently shown that the LSTM and GRU models were superior to the MLP-ANN and RNN models. It is also observed that among all, the GRU took the best precision due to the highest R of 0.9654 and VAF of 91.7689%, and the lowest MAE of 0.7777, RMSE of 1.1522 and MAPE of 0.3786%. The superiority of GRU can also be ensured from Taylor’s diagram. Lastly, Garson’s algorithm and Olden’s algorithm for MLP-ANN, as well as the perturbation method for RNN, LSTM, and GRU models, are used to test the sensitivity analysis of each influencing factor in sediment load forecasting. Data of patients undergone transcatheter closure with Konar-MFO from Mar 2019 to Dec 2020 was extracted retrospectively to assess the immediate and short-term efficacy and safety of the occluder. SPSS version-23 was used for data entry and analysis. Results: A total of 138 patients had transcatheter closure of a cardiac defect with Lifetech™ Konar-MFO during the study period. Case of VSD were 124(89.9%), PDA 9(6.5%), post-operative cases were 4(2.9%) along with 1(0.7%) case of coronary artery fistula (CAF) to the right ventricle. Out of 138 patients, 73(52.9%) were females while 65(47.1%) were males. The mean age was 9.3 ±8.1 years with a range of 6 months to 36 years. Mean fluoroscopy time was 13.68±9.74 min. The procedure was successful in 137(99.27%) cases. The device embolized in 2(1.45%) cases. Conclusion: In selected cases of VSD, PDA and in some post-operative cases the occlusion with Lifetech™ Konar-MFO is safe and efficacious with the added benefits of softness and versatility of the approach.

17. Correlation of clinical manifestation of lumbar disc prolapse with magnetic resonance imaging findings among adult patients

Abstract: BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: The most common cause of low back pain is disc prolapse. Disc prolapse occurs in both gender, but females are more prone to disc degenerative changes. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between clinical findings and MRI findings of lumbar disc prolapse patients. METHODOLOGY: This study recruited 32 participants of either gender, between the ages of 19 to 65, in the Radiology department of Shalamar Hospital. This study was carried out in six months with follow-up. Only diagnosed patients with lumbar disc prolapse on MRI were recruited. NPRS was used to identify the intensity of pain. History and neurological examinations were done in all diagnosed patients. MRI reports of all these patients were reviewed. All these findings of MRI were correlated with the clinical findings at different levels of lumbar vertebrae. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant positive correlation of MRI findings with clinical findings in the presence of nerve root compression at the L1-L2 level of lumbar vertebrae. All abnormal findings on MRI did not correlate with clinical findings because some patients did not produce symptoms. According to the Pearson coefficient correlation, there was a positive but insignificant (p-value≥0.05) correlation between clinical features (sensations, power and reflexes) and MRI findings at all the levels of lumbar vertebrae except L2 dermatome and myotome. CONCLUSION: There was a not good correlation between MRI findings and clinical findings of patients with lumbar disc prolapse except L2.

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the impact of the China-Pakistan Regional Trade Agreement on Pakistan’s exports. We applied the gravity trade model using the Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimator for export data for a period of 16 years from 2003 to 2018. For the sake of a comprehensive analysis, ten products at the HS-4 level are studied. The estimates show expected signs for all traditional variables of the gravity equation, including GDP, bilateral distance, colonial relationship, language commonality and landlocked importing countries. The results show a consistent and significant positive impact of the RTA on Pakistan exports.

Methodology: This study included 94 patients with metabolically stable type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with diabetic sensory neuropathy. Patients were randomly assigned into 3 treatment group, treatment group 1 (n1=29) recei-ving Venlafaxine 37.5mg × BD, treatment group 2 (n2=33) receiving duloxetine 30mg × BD and treatment group 3 (n3=25) receiving Sertraline 50mg × OD, each group being treated for 6 weeks, with optional dose titration fortnightly. The efficacy measure was done by revised Neuropathy Disability Score (NDS), measured at baseline and at the end of treatment period i.e. 6 weeks. The primary outcome of this study was “functional outcome” assessed by Disability Neuropathy scale (DNS) and overall improvement and adverse events were measured as secondary outcome measures. Abstract: Bridge pier scour threatens the stability of bridges. Several approaches practiced counterbalancing the base of piers from scour, but the use of a collar with protection is considered as effective countermeasure. Present study examines the scour around rectangular cross-sectional pier by applying a rectangular hooked collar, under clear water condition. Various dimensions of hooked collar wall height to hooked collar width (Hw/Hwh = 0.05 to 0.30) at the bed level are experimentally tested. To quantify the effectiveness of the scour protection, the result of unprotected rectangular pier is referenced. Similar trend is observed in all the side wall height that by changing the wall height from 0.3Wp scour starts increasing. Likewise, by reducing the width of the hooked collar up to 1.5Wp equilibrium scour depth is observed to be significantly decreased. Further, the laboratory experimental runs showed that width of 1.5Wp along with side wall height of 0.3Wp is the most effective dimension for a hooked collar which may be utilized for rectangular unprotected piers. Lastly, the most suitable configuration reduced almost 52.2% of scouring depth compared to referenced experimental run.

Abstract: The early theorists had conceived airpower to break the adversary's will and achieve decisive impact; however, technological deficiencies and weak strategies prevented airpower from doing so. Later, especially in the second half of the 20th century, advancements in technology and the advent of new concepts developed airpower as a military tool of the first choice to achieve strategic advantages. Traditionally, states remained the referent objects and a prime focus for national security, but post-cold war developments witnessed the emergence of a non-traditional security paradigm, increasingly making individuals referent objects of security. This security dimension primarily affected individuals and ideational aspects and led to the developing of a new identity-based construct with increasing political, economic, military, environmental, and societal influences. This paper highlights that despite the remarkable advancements in airpower technology and its ever-increasing role as a critical military instrument, its effectiveness in dealing with security threats and achieving a decisive victory in situations complexed by non-traditional threats remains ambiguous. Considering terrorism as a social construction allows investigation into unthinkable policies to counter it. Nevertheless, the main objective of the policy perhaps can be the deconstruction of the undesirable construct whereby airpower, enabled with modern technology, can act as a leading military component. Operative variables were any previous Blalock Taussig Shunts and if present, then their takedown, Cardiopulmonary Bypass Time, Aortic Clamp Time, any Right Ventricle - Pulmonary Artery conduit, Main Pulmonary Artery patch-plasty, Left Pulmonary Artery/ Right Pulmonary Artery patch-plasty, dosage of inotropes and pacing started during weaning off CPB. Post-op variables were mechanical ventilation time (hrs), ventilation time >72 hrs, dosage and duration of inotropes, pacing >24 hrs, renal complications, neurological complications, sepsis, low cardiac output, re-ventilation, tachyarrythmias, any re-opening surgery, mean intensive care unit stay (hrs), overall hospital stay (days) and overall all-cause mortality. Results: A total of 1271 TOF patients were operated. In (38.6%) cases Trans-atrial / Trans-pulmonary approach was used while in 780 (61.3%) correction was done by TAP/TV technique. In both techniques, male patients were 365 (66.4%) vs. 73 (64.1%) females. Abstract: After total correction for tetrolgy of fallot (TOF), right ventricle behaves in an unpredictable manner depending on type of right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) reconstruction and surgical expertise of infundibular muscle resection. We are reporting a 23 years old girl who underwent total correction at two years of age. RVOT was reconstructed with native pericardial patch. Gradually she developed breathlessness and occasional chest pain. Echocardiograghy revealed hugely dilated right ventricle (RV) with gross pulmonary regurgitation and RV dysfunction. Cardiac MRI also calculated right ventricular end systolic volume (RVESV) 57 ml/m2 and right ventricular end diatolic volume (RVEDV) 157ml/m2. We decided to implant transcatheter venus p-valve at pulmonary position. The procedure went successful having competent pulmonary valve and improved RV function. Total fluoro time was 36.4 minutes and total procedural time was two hours. This procedure was done first time in Pakistan with optimal results.

Abstract: Abstract Background Information regarding the prevalence of PKU in the Middle East in comparison to other world regions is scarce, which might be explained by difficulties in the implementation of national newborn screening programs. Objective This study seeks for the first time to genotype and biochemically characterize patients diagnosed with hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA) at the Pediatric Metabolic Genetics Clinic at the King Hussein Medical Center, Amman, Jordan. Methods A total of 33 patients with HPA and 55 family members were investigated for pterins (neopterin and biopterin) and dihydropteridine reductase (DHPR) activity in dried blood spots. Patients with HPA were genotyped for phenylketonuria (PKU) and the genes involved in tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) metabolism. Results In total 20 patients were diagnosed with PKU due to phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) deficiency, 2 with GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCH) deficiency, 6 with DHPR deficiency, and 3 with the 6‐pyruvoyl‐tetrahydropterin synthase (PTPS) deficiency. Diagnosis was not possible in 2 patients. This study documents a high percentage of BH4 deficiencies within HPA patients. With one exception, all patients were homozygous for particular gene variants. Conclusions This approach enables differentiation between PKU and BH4 deficiencies and, thus, allows for critical selection of a specific treatment strategies.

Abstract: Background and Amis: The most important environmental challenges facing the West of iran in recent years is the dust phenomenon, that today has become one of the most important problems in arid and semi-arid areas. This phenomenon occurs as a climatic phenomenon in all climatic conditions, that causes adverse social, economic, environmental and commercial impacts. In this research have used dust sources that have been identified by Jalali and Davoodi (2008) for study effects of surface features on the creation of dust sources on the west of the country. The study area is about 1200,000 square kilometers that located in the east of middle east includes Iraq and parts of Iran, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The aim of this research is to evaluate geomorphic characteristics and surface sediments, land cover, and wind erosion potential of dust sources in the study area. Methodology: For this purpose, on based on the Bullard (2011) classification, first, layers of geomorphic , soil and land cover class were prepared and classified to three groups low, medium and high, according to the relative importance of the classes in the release of dusts. Subsequently, using 40 data stations, wind erosion potential (EW) was calculated and zoned by Kriging method. Conclusion: The results showed that geomorphic characteristics have the greatest role in the distribution of emission control factors. Sand dunes in the geomorphic classes with a dust Emission Ratio of 35.3 unit have the greatest effect on the creation of dust sources. There is not much conformity between different classes of land cover and type of soil with dust sources, but there is compatibility between the wind erosion potential with dust sources and the most dust sources created in areas with high wind erosion potential.

Abstract: In recent years, technology enabled learning also called e-learning is penetrating in the educational sector and its use is increasing especially in ODL (Open and Distance Learning). But a majority of the e-learning systems merely focuses on instruction delivery with little focus on learning activities and thus creating opportunities to develop e-learning more interactive and engaging by adding adaptive features. However, it is also a challenging task to develop and implement an adaptive e-learning model for an ODL environment. There are various issues like non-availability of the specialized contents, the learning sequence story board and the preferences of learners under the available infrastructure. This paper proposes a model of adaptive e-learning for an ODL environment. The proposed model has three important components: content model, learner model and adaptive model. The content model defines and stores the organization of chapters and topics in a logical sequence. The learner model stores information about survey and quizzes data and keep the track of the learning performance. The survey is designed to investigate the personal profiles and the preference of students about their favorite content types. The adaptive model manages content presentation and its navigation derived by the learning algorithm. The learning algorithm takes information from the learner model, analyzes it and adjusts the display of the contents by retrieving it from the content model. The implementation was conducted on two courses of computer science and in each course the experimental and control groups were formed to investigate the change in their learning level. The results show that the proposed adaptive e-learning model has improved the knowledge level of the students. The percentage of highest grade holders has increased and the failure rate has dropped in both courses. The feedback of the students enrolled in adaptive e-learning course is also conducted. The results of the survey highlight the positive opinion about this new paradigm of technology based learning.

Abstract: The service system has become a necessity of life in modern cities to be the most basic necessities of modern humans, they constitute a major base, which is based on the sustainability of life in the city and a standard measured through the degree of well-being and progress of civilized peoples and their interaction with the surrounding environment, making the services sector as a need not be an option, whenever the cities widened in population and space whenever provision of services and upgrading the quality and quantity more pressing, which made the subject of the services takes the biggest area of the trends and thinking of urban planners and those who in charge of drawing the cities policies. Considering that the processing and transfer of the water system with all its components (stations – water tanks -transmission and distribution pipelines), it is one of the most important parts of the services systems in the city. It has become a key element of the arteries of the establishment of life, but for several considerations of most important ( like storage of water and supplied with constant pressure that balanced without wobbling at the peak daytime hours with the necessary provision of water to fight fires , as well as secured it to the sectors of city n the maintenance time of the parts of the water system or the occurrence of a failure, with the need to confirm the save and generate energy factor in renewable way). For this in whole and others, the elevated water towers cornerstone of the pillars of the water system was made that can be indispensable in providing outsourcing and distribution network , and on the grounds that the case study concerning our capital Baghdad and its suffering of the water distribution and pressure intermittent problems, this research aims to clarify the idea of the elevated water tanks have become an important actor and is a part of the process and transport of the water in the city's system, and that its presence in a thoughtful siting and storage capacities and sufficient numbers will reduce the cost of the service system and its problems and provides continuously a constant pressure is to rescue the city from the overtaking problems on the network, while avoiding the problems experienced by interruptions in the water supply process, especially in the summer, which will make the water tanks as a necessary structures and essential elements of attractions for recreational activities and benchmarks functions within the city.

Abstract: Increasing more injection of substances (precipitation) and decreasing the evaporation process in water basins has led to formation of Abarkooh hole in cold periods and also Abarkooh lake; a lake around which several social communities have been created due to this feature and in warm periods, it has turned into desert as the result of disturbing the proportion of its input and outputs. These climatic fluctuations and changes and environmental responses to them have produced many changes in the local hydrologic system and accessible water sources and have also endangered the sustainability of the area because of the external disorder factors such as drought. The danger which certainly threats the social communities and if no special management practices have been employed , will lead to the destruction of human communities and demolish of its natural ecosystems. This study which is derived from a research plan in Isfahan University has been conducted by the aim of studying how the weather changes affect the evolution path of Abarkooh basin. Moreover, it has examined the basin status and icings reduction rate and therefore the basin input rate, by relying on the Allometry procedure and evaluating 6 synoptic stations in analyzing the annual changes process of climatic parameters such as mean temperature, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, current and past precipitation of the lake and also by using the evapotranspiration method. Results obtained from the research suggest that changing the current environmental parameters ratio to the colder periods have all exceeded from the stability thresholds and the general state of the environmental systems is about to collapse.

Abstract: Razavar watershed on the north of Kermanshah province is one of the flooding basins that causes flooding in watery years. For investigating watershed flooding, the statistical analysis of real data of the area, SCS model and surveying river cross section have been used. by dividing watershed to hydrologic homogeneous units and study , the factors influencing on flood such as vegetation cover, land use, time of concentration, lag time , slop ,geology ,pedology ,rainfall intensity were studied .finally CN and S map are provided and runoff height and peak discharge has been estimated by using SCS in smada software. The important factor in this software is the coefficient of flood recession curve. This coefficient indicates the hydrological behavior and morphological condition of the river at flood time. To obtain this coefficient, the flood hydrograph of pirmazd station has been plotted and interpreted. Analysis of the real flood hydrograph shows that the recession time of flood in Razavar watershed is 5 times of flood rising, and this represent the hydrological behavior of river which cant discharge the flood from the basin at the flood time. To identify the river hydrological status, surveying river profile was performed. The results showed that expect the river profile at pirmazd station, no other sections is able to pass peak discharge with 5years of return periods and even the river profile at Mehregan station cannot discharge flood of 2years return period and the cause of basin flooding is the narrow channel from upstream toward downstream which causes flood every year.

Abstract: This study was done to identify effective factors on flooding in Razavar basin in the north of Kermanshah province by using SCS model. For flood estimating, primarily Razavar watershed was divided to sub-watersheds with stream orders of 5, 6, and 7 then effective factors such as area, slope, CN, lag time, time of concentration, density of rainfall, land use, slope, geology, and vegetation were studied and the peak flood discharge was estimated by SMADA software. Peak flow estimation by SCS method showed maximum of 100 years return period peak discharge of Razavar watershed with 8 stream order was 691.85 m3/s and the minimum of 100 years return period was related to sub-watershed number of 10 with 5 stream order about 28.9 m3/s. For determining the most effective factor in the flood basin and to predict the amount of discharge and present a suitable discharge model as a dependent and others as independent variables we introduced these values and analyzed them by SPSS software. Simple regression, multiple and logarithmic, forward and step by step models were applied for the basin. It should be noted that the models presented with a confidence level of 0.01 percent were acceptable. The results show that the area, lag time, and CN are the most effective factors in flooding.

35. Synthesis, Characterization, Antimicrobial Activity, and Genotoxicity Assessment of Two Heterocyclic Compounds Containing 1,2,3-Selena- or 1,2,3-Thiadiazole Rings

Abstract: New 1,2,3-thiadiazole and 1,2,3-selenadiazole derivatives, (4-[4-((4-bromobenzyl)oxy)-phenyl]-1,2,3-thiadiazole (5a), 4-[4-((4-chlorobenzyl)oxy)-phenyl]-1,2,3-thiadiazole (5b)), (4-[4-((4-bromobenzyl)oxy)-phenyl]-1,2,3-selenadiazole (6a), and 4-[4-((4-chlorobenzyl)oxy)-phenyl]-1,2,3-selenadiazole (6b)), were prepared and screened in vitro for their antimicrobial activity against various pathogenic microbes. In addition, two compounds (5a and 6a) were examined for their in vivo genotoxicity using rats and an 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) assay. Compounds 5a and 5b were found to be highly active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In addition, a significant inhibition of urinary 8-OHdG level (50.2%) was observed upon treatment of animals with 500 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) of compound 6a (p < 0.0001). However, compound 5a increased urinary 8-OHdG levels. The lethal dose (LD50) values for compounds 5a and 6a were determined by an up-and-down procedure (OECD 425; OECD 1998), which showed that these compounds are safe, since the LD50 was >5000 mg/kg b.w. Thus, the tested compounds might have the potential for use as antibiotics, since they have low genotoxicity and strong antimicrobial activity.

Abstract: Background: Regional analgesia is widely used for total knee replacement surgeries (TKR) as it has lesser side-effects and better analgesic efficacy when compared with traditional oral analgesics. Peripheral nerve blockade has also been utilized, including continuous infusion techniques. With the use of ultrasound, the needle and catheter placement can be done accurately under real-time guidance. This may prove a more suitable approach compared with the epidural technique. Aims: Post-operative analgesia in TKR patients was compared between continuous epidural analgesia (CEA) and continuous femoral block (CFB) techniques. VAS scores and use of rescue analgesic were used as parameters. Secondary aims included comparison of rehabilitation scores and side-effects in the form hypotension, vomiting, itching and urinary retention. Settings and Design: Randomised, controlled, non-blinded study done in a tertiary care private hospital. Methods: Forty-two patients fulfilling the study criteria were randomised into the CEA and CFB groups. In total, four patients: three in the CFB group and one in the CEA group, were excluded because of catheter migration. Statistical Analysis: Mean VAS score at 6, 6-24, 24-48 and 48-72 h were considered. Significance was assessed at the 5% level. Results and Conclusion: VAS scores were significantly high (P=0.001) in the femoral group at 6 h, after which there was a declining trend, and scores were essentially similar from 24 h. Common side-effects were more common in the CEA group. Our study shows that CFB gives equivalent analgesia compared with CEA in TKR patients with clinically meaningful decrease in side-effects.

37. Polymorphisms of arylamine N-acetyltransferase2 and risk of lung and colorectal cancer

Abstract: The arylamine N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) enzymes detoxify a wide range of naturally occurring xenobiotics including carcinogens and drugs. Point mutations in the NAT2 gene result in the variant alleles M1 (NAT2 *5A), M2 (NAT2*6A), M3 (NAT2*7) and M4 (NAT2 *14A) from the wild-type WT (NAT2 *4) allele. The current study was aimed at screening genetic polymorphisms of NAT2 gene in 49 lung cancer patients, 54 colorectal cancer patients and 99 cancer-free controls, using PCR-RFLP. There were significant differences in allele frequencies between lung cancer patients and controls in the WT, M2 and M3 alleles (p < 0.05). However, only M2 and M3 allele frequencies were different between colorectal cancer patients and controls (p < 0.05). There was a marginal significant difference in the distribution of rapid and slow acetylator genotypes between lung cancer patients and controls (p = 0.06 and p = 0.05, respectively), but not between colorectal cancer patients and controls (p = 1.0 and p = 0.95, respectively). Risk of lung cancer development was found to be lower in slow acetylators [odds ratio (OR): 0.51, 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 0.25, 1.02, p-value = 0.07]. No effect was observed in case of colorectal cancer. Our results showed that NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes might be involved in lung cancer but not colorectal cancer susceptibility in Jordan.

Abstract: In the Infrastructure-as-a-Service cloud computing model, virtualized computing resources in the form of virtual machines are provided over the Internet. A user can rent an arbitrary number of computing resources to meet their requirements, making cloud computing an attractive choice for executing real-time tasks. Economical task allocation and scheduling on a set of leased virtual machines is an important problem in the cloud computing environment. This paper proposes a greedy and a genetic algorithm with an adaptive selection of suitable crossover and mutation operations (named as AGA) to allocate and schedule real-time tasks with precedence constraint on heterogamous virtual machines. A comprehensive simulation study has been done to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms in terms of their solution quality and efficiency. The simulation results show that AGA outperforms the greedy algorithm and non-adaptive genetic algorithm in terms of solution quality.

40. Risk Factors Associated with Hepatitis C virus Acquisition in a Tertiary Care Setting

Abstract: Background: Hepatitis C is prevalent worldwide. In Pakistan HCV infection has prevalence of about 4-6%. This study was conducted to identify the risk factors associated with positive hepatitis C status in a tertiary care setting. Material & Methods: This was hospital-based descriptive study, carried out in medical wards of Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, from June 2008 to November 2010. It included 542 anti-HCV positive patients of more than 12 years age and both sexes. Patients were selected by convenient sampling technique. Various indications for HCV testing and the risk factors for its acquisition were recorded on a pre-designed Performa. Results: Out of 542 patients, 228(42.07%) were males and 314(57.93%) females. Age ranged 14 to 90 years with mean 37.11+12.69. Re-use of syringes and therapeutic injections were reported in 433(79.88%), needle stick injuries 44(8.11%), blood transfusions 68(12.54%), dental procedures 243(44.83%), tattooing 10(1.84%), previous surgery 144(26.56%) and road traffic accidents in 16(2.95%) patients. Indications for anti-HCV testing included dilatation &/curettage in 37(11.78%), evacuation &/curettage in 41(13.05%), and antenatal checkup in 37(11.78%) female patients. Anti-HCV antibodies were detected pre-operatively in 63(11.62%), pre-endoscopy 2(0.36%), pre-vaccination against hepatitis B 14(2.58%), while donating blood in 18(3.32%), and as part of pre-employment or pre-insurance examination in 91(16.78%) patients. Conclusion: Hepatitis C is more common in patients with unnecessary use of injections, re-use of syringes, dental procedures and unscreened blood transfusions. In most of the patients, more than one risk factor can be found.

Abstract: Background Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most common infections associated with health care, but its importance as a global health priority is not fully understood. We quantified the burden of SSI after gastrointestinal surgery in countries in all parts of the world. Methods This international, prospective, multicentre cohort study included consecutive patients undergoing elective or emergency gastrointestinal resection within 2-week time periods at any health-care facility in any country. Countries with participating centres were stratified into high-income, middle-income, and low-income groups according to the UN's Human Development Index (HDI). Data variables from the GlobalSurg 1 study and other studies that have been found to affect the likelihood of SSI were entered into risk adjustment models. The primary outcome measure was the 30-day SSI incidence (defined by US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria for superficial and deep incisional SSI). Relationships with explanatory variables were examined using Bayesian multilevel logistic regression models. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials. gov, number NCT02662231. Findings Between Jan 4, 2016, and July 31, 2016, 13 265 records were submitted for analysis. 12 539 patients from 343 hospitals in 66 countries were included. 7339 (58.5%) patient were from high-HDI countries (193 hospitals in 30 countries), 3918 (31.2%) patients were from middle-HDI countries (82 hospitals in 18 countries), and 1282 (1.2%) patients were from low-HDI countries (68 hospitals in 18 countries). In total, 1538 (12.3%) patients had SSI within 30 days of surgery. The incidence of SSI varied between countries with high (691 [9.4%] of 7339 patients), middle (549 [14.0%] of 3918 patients), and low (298 [23.2%] of 1282) HDI (p, DFID-MRC-Wellcome Trust Joint Global Health Trial Development Grant, National Institute of Health Research Global Health Research Unit Grant.

Abstract: A facile and simple electrochemical composite sensor, CDs-Ag@Cu 2 O-GA, prepared from carbon dots stabilized silver nanoparticles and copper oxide, was used as an electrocatalyst and signal amplifier for the non-enzymatic detection of antibiotic traces in food products. The prepared composite demonstrated excellent stability, sensitivity, and cost-effectiveness. The sensor was constructed by modifying a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with CDs-Ag@Cu 2 O-GA, and the electroanalytical response was determined for the precise determination of metronidazole (MTZ) drug traces in milk. The analytical response signified fast electron transfer and accessibility of several electroactive sites, producing an amplified response for the reduction of MTZ. The quantitative analysis by the sensor revealed a good linear range (10-110 μM), a low limit of detection (7.1 × 10 -7 molL -1 ), and a high sensitivity (1.5 μA μM -1 cm -2 ). 44. Nitrous oxide emissions and soil profile responses to manure substitution in the North China Plain drylands.

Abstract: Substituting synthetic fertilizers with manures in agriculture enhances soil properties and crop yield. However, the impact on nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emissions, especially from the soil profile, remains poorly understood. This study examined emissions from 2017 to 2019 on a well-established (>10-year) maize field site in the North China Plain. Three treatments were compared: 100 % synthetic nitrogen (NPK), 50 % synthetic fertilizer N + 50 % manure N substitution (50%MNS), and 100 % manure N substitution (100%MNS). N 2 O emissions were monitored for three years, and in 2019, N 2 O concentrations at 20 cm and 40 cm soil depths were analyzed in relation to surface N 2 O fluxes and environmental factors. The results showed manure substitution resulted in about 13.8 %-25.2 % (50%MNS) and 40.3 %-72.2 % (100%MNS) reduction in N 2 O emissions over the 3-year period compared with the NPK treatment. Throughout the maize growing season, the top-dressing accompanied by rainfall was responsible for the N 2 O emissions. The difference in N 2 O concentrations between all the treatments at 20 cm depth was insignificant, but at 40 cm depth the N 2 O concentrations were significantly higher for the 50%MNS treatment than the other treatments. The N 2 O fluxes and N 2 O concentration were not synchronized especially in NPK. The decoupled relationship between the N 2 O fluxes and the N 2 O concentration in the soil profile depth suggested the contribution of N 2 O produced in the soil profile to the surface N 2 O fluxes is limited. 45. Plasma-Driven Conversion of 2D Graphene into 3D Pouch for Improved Electromagnetic Absorption Performance.

Abstract: Graphene-based materials are ideal for electromagnetic wave-absorbing materials (EAMs) due to their strong electrical and dielectric losses with reduced thickness and weight. To enhance the electromagnetic wave absorption performance of these materials, additional components are often incorporated. However, this approach not only increases the complexity of the synthesis process but also complicates and destabilizes the control of the material properties. In this study, we successfully employed a one-step method to reduce graphene oxide and transform 2D graphene into a 3D pocket-like structure through plasma treatment. This unique 3D structure is induced by the formation of uneven defects on the surface due to plasma treatment. The distinctive pouch-like structure of the reduced graphene oxide achieved remarkable electromagnetic wave absorption properties. Specifically, the material demonstrated a minimum reflection loss of -38.65 dB at 7.14 GHz, with an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.13 GHz and a thickness of just 1.9 mm. These results highlight the potential of plasma processing as a rapid, efficient, and environmentally friendly approach for the continuous production of advanced EAMs, paving the way for greener manufacturing practices in the industry.

Abstract: Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most significant crops and the backbone of food security worldwide. However, low wheat production remains a substantial concern in global agricultural systems. It can be attributed to several factors, including adverse climatic conditions, plant disease and poor soil quality. Recent efforts have explored bioinoculant applications as a promising approach to enhance wheat yield, trying to mitigate constraints essential for future wheat production and global food security. This study tested talc powder, wheat biochar, sugarcane bagasse biochar, and farmyard manure as carriers with two endophytic bacterial strains, Burkholderia phytofirmans PsJN and Bacillus spp. MN54 was applied to three wheat varieties (Ujala-16, Zincol-16, and Fathejang-16). The data was recorded at the seedling and maturity growth stages of plants. A pot experiment revealed significant improvements in plant growth following bioinoculant application compared to controls. Notably, the combination of sugarcane bagasse biochar with Bacillus sp. MN54 exhibited the most pronounced effects, promoting internodal length, spike length, tiller number per plant, grain yield per plant, and spikelets per spike. Additionally, talc powder with Bacillus sp. MN54 increased peduncle length, tiller number per plant, and spike length in Fathejang-16. These findings offer valuable insights into optimizing bioinoculant formulations for improved agricultural practices, adapting to climate change, and contributing to ensuring global food security., (© 2024. Abstract: Background: The bZIP transcription factor family, characterized by a bZIP domain, plays vital roles in plant stress responses and development. While this family has been extensively studied in various plant species, its specific functions in Camelina sativa (False Flax) remain underexplored., Methods and Results: This study identified 71 bZIP transcription factors in C. sativa, classified into nine distinct groups based on phylogenetic analysis. Subcellular localization predicted a nucleus-specific expression for these bZIPs. Analysis of GRAVY scores revealed a range from 0.469 to -1.256, indicating a spectrum from hydrophobic to hydrophilic properties. Motif analysis uncovered 10 distinct motifs, with one motif being universally present in all CsbZIPs. Conserved domain analysis highlighted several domains beyond the core bZIP domain. Protein-protein interaction predictions suggested a robust network involving CsbZIPs. Moreover, promoter analysis revealed over 60 types of cis-elements, including those responsive to stress. Expression studies through RNA-seq and Real-time RT-qPCR demonstrated high expression of CsbZIPs in roots, leaves, flowers, and stems. Specifically, CsbZIP01, CsbZIP02, CsbZIP44, and CsbZIP60 were consistently up-regulated under cold, salt, and drought stresses, whereas CsbZIP34 and CsbZIP35 were down-regulated., Conclusion: This study presents the first comprehensive genome-wide profiling of bZIP transcription factors in Camelina sativa, providing novel insights into their roles in plant development and stress response mechanisms. By identifying and characterizing the bZIP gene family in C. sativa, this research offers new opportunities for improving stress tolerance and crop resilience through targeted genetic approaches, addressing key challenges in agriculture under changing environmental conditions., (© 2024. Abstract: The c-MPL-TPO axis regulates hematopoiesis by activating various signalling cascades, including JAK/STAT, MAPK/ERK, and PIK3/AKT. Here, we have summarized how TPO is regulated by c-MPL and, how mutations in the c-MPL regulate hematopoiesis. We also focus on its non-hematological regulatory role in diseases like Unstable Angina and pathways like DNA damage repair, skeletal homeostasis, & apoptotic regulation of neurons/HSCs at the embryonic state. We discuss the therapeutic efficiency of c-MPL and, its potential to be developed as a bio-marker for detecting metastasis and development of chemo-resistance in various cancers, justifying the multifaceted nature of c-MPL. We have also highlighted the importance of c-MPL isoforms and their stoichiometry in controlling the HSC quiescent and proliferative state. The regulation of the ratio of different isoforms through gene-therapy can open future therapeutic avenues. A systematic understanding of c-MPL-isoforms would undoubtedly take one step closer to facilitating c-MPL from basic-research towards translational medicine., (© 2024. Abstract: Meat spoilage has been acquiring increasing attention recently and is directly associated with food safety and human health. Biogenic amines are the spying organic compounds fostered from the microorganism-mediated decarboxylation of amino acids during meat spoilage. Histamine, a biogenic amine acts as a model analyte and is toxic if consumed substantially. It is crucial to monitor histamine levels in meat due to its adverse effects. In this study, a simple and quick fluorescent sensor was fabricated for sensitive and selective detection of histamine. Citrate-capped silver nanoparticles (AgNP) were loaded onto Perylene (PER) to develop a sensing probe that was characterized using UV-visible, FTIR, XRD, and FESEM, and its optical behavior toward histamine was investigated. Moreover, the binding affinity between histamine and PER@AgNP was assessed using a DFT-based computer simulation.
