Objective: To investigate the Pinus halepensis extracts and determine its healing and antibacterial effects, and to evaluate the treatment of skin burns. Methods: Aqueous and ethanolic extracts and topical based on Aleppo pine plant extracts were prepared. Thirty male and female Wistar rats were used to study the cutaneous toxicity of extracts from the bark of P. halepensis . The extracts’ healing potential for burn wounds were also assessed by evaluating the clinical and macroscopic aspects of the wounds. The antibacterial activity of crude extracts of P. halepensis as well as its wound healing abilities was verified in this investigation. Results: In animals with acute dermal toxicity, there were no signs of treatment-related toxicity or death. The extracts of these plants could be transformed into phytomedicines for the treatment of infected wounds. The results demonstrated that formulated ointments are successful in treating second-degree burns in rats and may be suitable for the short-term therapeutic treatment of second-degree burns. Conclusion: This study successfully answered our problem, regarding the efficacy of our extract for treating second-degree burns in rats. Further studies are needed to confirm these results by identifying the molecules responsible for these activities and examining their mechanism of action.

Background: Lawsonia inermis L., is a branched, glabrous shrub or small tree belonging to the Lythraceae family. A perennial plant commonly known as henna, it is native to North Africa and Southeast Asia. In this review, we highlighted previous information on the botanical description, and pharmacologic activities of Lawsonia inermis L. Methods: To collect the data on Lawsonia inermis L., we reviewed publications indexed in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The main judgment criterion was to mention ''Lawsonia inermis L.,'' or ''henna'' in the title, abstract or keywords, and the secondary judgment criterion was to mention ''pharmacological actions'', ''pharmacological activities,'' or ''pharmacological activity'' in the full text. Results: One hundred and eleven papers were identified after the initial database search from PubMed, Scopus, and the Web of Science. After abstract and title screening and deleting duplicates 84 articles were retained to be treated, and analyzed in this review. The information presented in this paper summarizes the phytochemicals and pharmacologic actions of Lawsonia inermis L., and their extracts. Conclusion: The reviewed articles approved different therapeutic powers and different biological actions of Lawsonia inermis L., in various in vitro and in vivo test models. Different parts of henna have been shown to have biological, pharmacological, and chemical activities, including Antibacterial, Antifungal, Antitumor and antiproliferative, Antiangiogenic, Larvicidal, Antileishmanial, Lousicide, Antimalarial, Hepatoprotective, Wound healing, Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic, Antipyretic, Memory enhancement, Enzyme inhibitor, and Antioxidant. This review provides direction for future studies on the composition and isolation of the active ingredients of Lawsonia inermis L., and references for the clinical use of prescriptions containing parts of this plant for the treatment of different diseases.

Introduction: Retama monosperma (L.) Boiss., which belongs to the Retama genus, is a medicinal plant endemic to the Mediterranean basin. It is used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases such as skin diseases, diabetes, rheumatism, and hypertension. In this review, we highlighted previous information on the taxonomy, botanical description, geographical distribution, uses in traditional medicine, chemical composition, and pharmacologic activities of Retama monosperma (L) Bioss. Methods: The data on Retama monosperma (L) Bioss was collected using the scientific research databases PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The compiled bibliography contains twenty-one references. The Plant List and the “Inventaire National du Patrimoine Naturel” were used to authenticate the scientific names. The information presented in this paper summarises the phytochemicals, uses in traditional medicine, and pharmacologic properties of Retama monosperma (L) Bioss. Results: In traditional medicine in the Mediterranean region, Retama monosperma (L) Bioss is used to treat various diseases including diabetes, abortive, rheumatism, and hypertension. Overall, these studies show that the extracts of different parts of Retama monosperma (L) Bioss have five main pharmacologic activities, such as anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-aging activities. The phytochemical analysis by GC/MS, HPLC/MS, and NMR of the essential oil and the extracts of Retama monosperma (L) Bioss revealed the presence of different classes of secondary metabolites bioactive such as cyclitols, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenes, and sterols. In this study, we inventoried 60 compounds isolated and identified from different extracts of Retama monosperma (L) Bioss. Conclusions: Many aspects of Retama monosperma (L) Bioss extracts and their secondary metabolites have not been investigated; further studies on toxicity and clinical activity are needed to explore the untapped potential of this plant.
