Introduction: The influence and interactions of various genetic, hormonal, environmental and nutritional factors and risks for decreased bone mineral density in older age are not yet clear. The aim of this study was to examine relationship between reduced exposure to estrogen over a lifetime (early age at menopause, shorter period between menarche and menopause) and bone mineral density in older women. Methods: A total of 60 women, aged 60-75 years were included and assigned to osteoporosis group (n=30), or control group with normal bone mineral density or osteopenia (n=30). The values ​​of bone mineral density were obtained by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) at the lumbar spine (L2-L4) and proximal femur. Results: Women with osteoporosis entered the menopause at a younger age (43.03±3.18 years) compared to women without osteoporosis (51.93± 2.30 years) and the difference was statistically significant, p=0.0001. In addition, women with osteoporosis had shorter timespan between menarche and menopause (28.33±3.31 years), compared to women without osteoporosis (38.43±2.48 years), which was statistically significant, p=0.0001. Conclusion: Reduced exposure to estrogen over a lifetime because of early menopause, and shorter timespan between menarche and menopause may be associated with decreased bone mineral density and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess effects of strength, stretching and balance home exercise program (moderate intensity, performed once a day, five times a week) on quality of life of people with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Participants with knee osteoarthritis performed physical therapy for a period of two weeks at the Department for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The study group (n=30) continued to perform exercise program at home while the control group (n=30) did not continue the exercise program. The participants in the study group performed strength, stretching and balance exercises of moderate intensity, once a day, five times a week, for a total of eight weeks. The Short Form-36 Health Questionnaire (SF-36) was used to examine the effects of exercise program. Results: There was no the difference between the average value of quality of life in all examined areas (physical functioning, role limitations due to physical problems, role limitations due to emotional problems, vitality/energy, mental health, social functioning, physical pain, perception of general health) at the beginning of the study between the study group and control group (p>0.05 in all eight areas). The difference between the average value of quality of life at the beginning and end of the study was statistically significantly higher in the study group compared to the control group (physical functioning p=0.0001; role limitations due to physical problems p=0.0001; role limitations due to emotional problems p=0.0001; vitality/energy p=0.0001; mental health p=0.0001; social functioning p=0.0001; bodily pain p=0.0001; perception of general health p=0.0001). Conclusion: Home exercise program consisting of strength, stretching and balance exercises, of moderate intensity, performed once a day, five times a week is effective in improving quality of life of people with knee osteoarthritis.

Substantial changes have occurred in the nutritional management of many diseases in the last twenty years. Introduction of standards, clinical review and implementation of evidence based practice led to re-evaluation of some established dietary interventions. The most common form of osteoporosis is the primary osteoporosis, which is the result of the bone loss and deterioration of bone structure, as people age. Bone loss and osteoporosis can be prevented through adequate nutrition, physical activity, and, if necessary, appropriate treatment. This review will focus on nutritional and clinical aspects of bone tissue homeostasis, with references to physiological and pathophysiological processes.

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a multifactorial polygenetic disease of which the genetic determinants are modulated by hormonal, environmental and nutritional factors. Identifi cation of the risk factors for osteoporosisrelated to nutrition is important in the prevention and treatment of this disease, considering that these factors can be modifi ed. The aim of this study was to examine infl uence of dietary calcium intake on bonemineral density in postmenopausal women who hadn’t a deficit of estrogen in their menstrual history.Methods: A total of 100 postmenopausal women living in Sarajevo area, aged 50-65 years, without estrogen deficiency in menstrual history were included in the study. Mineral bone density was measured at the lumbarspine and proximal femur by Dual–Energy X–ray Absorptiometry using Hologic QDR-4000 scanner. Examination and control group were formed based on mineral bone density values. The women in the examinationgroup had osteoporosis. The women in the control group had osteopenia or normal mineral bone density. Estimates of daily dietary calcium intake were performed based on a Food Frequency Questionnaire.Results: The average daily intake of dietary calcium among women who had osteoporosis was 967.32 mg, and in women who hadn’t osteoporosis 1195.12 mg. The difference between two groups was statistically significant (pConclusion: The results of this study have shown that adequate daily intake of dietary calcium in postmenopausal women aged 50-65 years living in Sarajevo area, which hadn’t estrogen defi ciency in their menstrualhistory (in the group of women without osteoporosis amounted to 1195.12 mg) has a positive impact on bone mineral density.

Introduction: Due to patients’ safety, increased blood pressure often restricts wider use of mineral water for therapeutic purposes in rehabilitation practice. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of radon mineral water applied in the form of full baths on blood pressure in people with hypertension.Methods: A total of 27 patients, average age 58.10 years with hypertension were included in the study. Balneotherapy was applied in the form of full baths with mineral radon water of neutral temperature. Values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured before and after twenty minutes therapy on the first and fifth day of treatment.Results: On the first day of treatment there was no significant change in blood pressure after the application of full baths with mineral radon water of neutral temperature (systolic pressure t = 0.697, not significant; diastolic pressure t = 0.505, not significant). On the fi fth day of treatment there was no significant changes in blood pressure after the application of medical baths with mineral radon water of neutral temperature (systolic pressure t = 1.372, not significant; diastolic pressure t = 1.372, not significant).Conclusion: The significant increase of blood pressure in patients with mild and moderate hypertension is not expected when Fojnica water (radioactive mineral water) is being used in the form of full baths of neutral temperature, which allows a broader application of this balneo procedure in rehabilitation practice.

Introduction: Complex etiology of osteoporosis include genetic, hormonal, environmental and nutritional factors. The aim of this study was to examine influence of coffee consumption on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women with estrogen deficiency in menstrual history. Methods: This prospective study included 100 postmenopausal women, aged 50-65 years living in Sarajevo area, with estrogen deficiency in their menstrual history. The controlled clinical trials were conducted. Two groups were formed (based on bone mineral density values). The examination group included 50 women who had osteoporosis, while the control group included 50 women without osteoporosis (osteopenia, normal bone mineral density). The lumbar spine and proximal femur bone mineral density was measured by Dual–Energy X–ray Absorptiometry using Hologic QDR-4000 scanner. Coffee drinking habits were assessed for each subject. Results: The average daily intake of coffee in women with estrogen deficiency in menstrual history was at 267.6 ml in the examination group and in the control group 111.6 ml. The difference in the average daily intake of coffee between the two groups was statistically significant (p < 0.001). There was registered significant correlation between intake of coffee and bone mineral density in examination (p < 0.01) and in control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study indicates that coffee consumption is a risk factor for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, aged 50-65 years living in Sarajevo area, with estrogen deficiency in their menstrual history. It was shown that the effects of coffee on bone mineral density are dose-dependent.

The aim of this study was to examine influence of cigarette smoking on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women with estrogen deficiency in menstrual history. Methods: The total of 100 postmenopausal women living in Sarajevo area, aged 50-65 years, with estrogen deficiency in menstrual history participated in this prospective study. The subjects were divided in two groups, examination and control group, based on bone mineral density values. The women in the examination group had osteoporosis while in the control group were women with osteopenia or normal bone mineral density. Bone mineral density was measured at the lumbar spine and proximal femur by Dual–Energy X–ray Absorptiometry using Hologic QDR-4000 scanner. Smoking habits were assessed for each subject. Introduction: The estrogen defi ciency after menopause leads to accelerated loss of bone mass. The aim of this study was to examine influence of physical activity on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women who hadn’t a deficit of estrogen in their menstrual history. Methods: This prospective study included 100 postmenopausal women, ages between 50 and 65, living in Sarajevo area without estrogen deficiency in menstrual history. The women in the examination group had osteoporosis. The women in the control group had osteopenia or normal mineral bone density. Mineral bone density was measured at the lumbar spine and proximal femur by Dual–Energy X–ray Absorptiometry using Hologic QDR-4000 scanner. To assess level of physical activity an International Physical Activity Questionnaire - Long Form was used. Results: In the examination group of women who had no history of menstrual estrogen deficit, level of physical activity was low in 52.00% female, and in 48.00% women level of physical activity was moderate. In the control group of women who had no history of menstrual estrogen defi cit in 10.00% female level of physical activity was low, and in 90.00% female level of physical activity was moderate. Introduction: Estrogen deficiency plays a critical role in the development of osteoporosis. However, some other factors may contribute to bone loss as well. Aim: To show presence of osteoporosis risk factors and to examine its influence on bone mass loss in women with normal menstrual history. Methods: The study included 30 postmenopausal women, ages from 50 to 65 with osteoporosis who entered into menopause before the age of 45, and 30 postmenopausal women, ages from 50 to 65 with osteoporosis who had normal menstrual history. Presence of risk factors has been calculated for both groups and statistical significance of differences between two groups presented. Results: In the group with normal menstrual history 33.33% women had low level of physical activities, 56.66% suffered from insuficient intake of calcium, 63.33% of women were active smokers. Body mass index bellow 19 had 6.66% women, insuficient exposure to the sun was registered in 60%, and 23.33% women were either taking medicaments or had diseases that could cause osteoporosis. The authors examine the experiences of informal housing providers, defined as those who provide housing and shelter to family, friends, and acquaintances in the context of a severe affordable rental housing crisis. Forty-five semistructured interviews were conducted with informal housing providers in and around New Haven, Connecticut, in 2021. The data describe the critical role informal housing providers play in addressing gaps in the housing safety net. Interviews also show the ways informal housing provision can strain already vulnerable households and threaten providers’ own housing security, with implications for their health and well-being. As such, the data illustrate how widespread unmet housing needs can reverberate across networks and communities. Given the multiple ways structural racism has constrained housing access for nonwhite Americans, this burden of housing provision is also likely to be unequal, with implications for population health equity.

Introduction: A number of people with facial injuries after surgical treatment one knee time comes and a violation of the opposite knee. These injuries have a major impact on quality of life if they are not treated properly, but also have consequences and after surgery. The aim of this paper is to analyze the questionnaires used to assess the quality of life after mutual ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, and to make recommendations for optimal use of the same. Our goal is to establish a correlation between the results obtained from questionnaires used descriptive answers to questions descriptive questions about aspects of everyday life, aspects of physical activity as well as aspects of personal perception of the current health and satisfaction with it. Methods: We analyzed questionnaires used to evaluate the quality of life after a bilateral rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, which are listed in the attached work. In accordance with the subject of research, in this paper were used the following scientific research methods: a method of deduction, analysis, classification, comparison, analysis methods of written documents. Results: By searching the PubMed database for the purpose of this master's thesis under the terms "unilateral rupture ACL" we came across a 2792 articles, while the term "bilateral rupture of the ACL," retrieved only 73 articles, "contralateral ACL rupture" 192 articles, "Quality of life ACL " 41 articles. The most important dates in our study are certainly "Quality of life after bilateral rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament," where we all find only two articles on this topic. Conclusion: The most commonly used questionnaires to be used in assessing the success of treatment and quality of life after a bilateral rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament are: QOL, IKDC, KOOS, HSS, ADL, SF-36, WOMAC. IKDC proved to be most suitable for patients with ACL rupture in this study.
