2. Design of UASB reactor for treatment of industrial wastewater - A case study.

Abstract

UASB has proved as one of the most useful treatment unit for treatment of industrial wastewater. It has also shown good performance for treatment of municipal wastewater. In the present study,the wastewater produced from the dairy and food industry were analyzed for different parameters using the standard methods. The wastewater was found to be highly organic with high COD values and hence anaerobic treatment using UASB reactor was thought to be the best option for treatment. The UASB was designed for a flow rate of 1000m3/day and and highest influent COD of 8500mg/L,. The design of UASB is carried out on the basis of the analysis considering the various operating parameters. The organic loading rate considered was 6 kg COD/m3/day and the height and diameter obtained were 8.5m and 14.6m respectively with HRT OF 34 hrs. The GLS separator along with inlet distribution system was also designed. The results obtained from the UASB were found to be satisfactory. COD reduction of 96.1 % for food industry waste and 81.90 % for dairy industry waste which is very high. BOD reduction was also observed as 95.30 % and 93.50 % respectively. Other polluting parameters have also shown substantial reduction. The pH of treated wastewater in both cases rose to near neutral values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

It goes without saying that modern manufacturing processes priorities reducing machining costs by effectively optimizing a variety of machining process parameters like depth of cut, feed, and speed. Due to their high specific strength, titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-4V) are frequently utilized in the automotive, aerospace, bioindustry, nuclear power industrial, and medical applications. In this study, we addressed several machinability concerns of titanium alloys utilizing Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) coated inserts. High hardness, corrosion resistance, specific strength, and biocompatibility are just a few of the excellent mechanical characteristics that are widely used in industries like the automotive, aerospace, and biotech. Titanium alloys have a limited thermal conductivity and a high specific heat, which makes it challenging to remove heat from the workpiece and chips during milling. 37. Benzoylecgonine Hydrazides:  Synthesis, Coupling to Horseradish Peroxidase, and Characterization of the Conjugates

Abstract

Benzoylecgonine−horseradish peroxidase conjugate (BE−HRP) can be used as a diagnostic reagent for the detection of cocaine in illicit drug samples and in biological fluids. This paper describes the preparation and characterization of BE−HRP. Two hydrazide derivatives of benzoylecgonine, N-2-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)benzoylecgonine hydrazide and mono(N-2‘-benzoylecgoninoyl)adipic dihydrazide, were synthesized by carbodiimide-activated coupling of benzoylecgonine to N-2-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl) hydrazide and adipic dihydrazide, respectively. Removal of the tert-butyloxycarbonyl protecting group in N-2-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)benzoylecgonine hydrazide with anhydrous HCl yielded benzoylecgonine hydrazide hydrochloride. NMR and high-resolution mass spectral analyses demonstrated that the benzoyl group of benzoylecgonine remained intact under the conditions of both carbodiimide coupling and anhydrous HCl treatment. By aldehyde−hydrazide condensation, the hydrazides were covalently conjugated to the carbohydrate residues of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Dot blot analysis of the conjugates employing antibodies specific to benzoylecgonine demonstrated the presence of bound benzoylecgonine in HRP. The stoichiometry of benzoylecgonine residues to HRP was determined by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). Mono(N-2‘-benzoylecgoninoyl)adipic dihydrazide gave a 2.5−3-fold higher coupling compared with benzoylecgonine hydrazide. Conjugates were also prepared by the coupling of the carbodiimide-activated benzoylecgonine to HRP that was derivatized with adipic dihydrazide.
