We use the resource theory framework of generalized contextuality as a tool for analyzing the structure of prepare-and-measure scenarios. We argue that this framework is capable of simplifying proofs for witnessing quantum contextuality and straightens known arguments regarding the robustness of experimental implementations thereof. As a case study, we witness quantum contextuality associated with any nontrivial noncontextuality inequality for a class of scenarios by noticing a connection between the resource theory and measurement simulability. We also expose a rule for composing behaviours that allows one to build complex scenarios from simpler ones, which provides an explanation of the non-contextual polytope structure for complex scenarios and facilitates finding possible quantum violations. In particular, we show that the state-dependent cloning scenario inherits contextuality from a simpler scenario, and we engineer a complex prepare-and-measure scenario that has quantum contextual violations for any noncontextuality inequality. NDN has gained significant attention due to the appearance of several unforeseen design flaws that became evident with new communication scenarios. Among its many features, the two standard NDN forwarding strategies are not adaptive, causing performance degradation in several scenarios. Measurements performed on distant parts of an entangled quantum state can generate correlations incompatible with classical theories respecting the assumption of local causality. This is the phenomenon known as quantum nonlocality that, apart from its fundamental role, can also be put to practical use in applications such as cryptography and distributed computing. Clearly, developing ways of quantifying nonlocality is an important primitive in this scenario. Here, we propose to quantify the nonlocality of a given probability distribution via its trace distance to the set of classical correlations. We show that this measure is a monotone under the free operations of a resource theory and, furthermore, that it can be computed efficiently with a linear program. We put our framework to use in a variety of relevant Bell scenarios also comparing the trace distance to other standard measures in the literature

The transformation of a river basin into a cascade of reservoirs produces new ecotones which interact differentially with the spatial\temporal distribution of fish species, their diversity, trophic structures, etc. So the variations of the fish fauna are described to understand better the practices of conservation and management of these reservoirs. The concepts of α and β diversities are related to the concepts of scale, complexity and heterogeneity. Scale comprises the longitudinal, horizontal and vertical variation which are represented by the complexity and heterogeneity of the fish assemblage in the reservoir. Complexity exhibits the variations in ecological data interpretation according to environmental variability or type of data. Heterogeneity describes the variations in species assemblages related to different ecotones. The sampled ecotones were: forest, agricultural land, beaches and mouths of tributaries, each with three replications. Cluster analysis of the environmental factors revealed two distinct ecotonal groups: i) forest, agricultural land and beach; and ii) the tributary mouths. The ANOVAS indicated two possible patterns of diversity: 1 - heterogeneity within the fish assemblage represented by number of species, and differences between the ecotones; 2 - homogeneity within the fish assemblage described by the biomass of different species. The β diversities were congruent with environmental factors giving evidence of the horizontal scale within the reservoir. The forest ecotones revealed higher heterogeneity in the coexistence of fish species than did the with other ecotones. This fact is explained by the littoral areas close to the forest fragments with more refuge, increasing the environmental structural diversity. So it reinforces the importance of the forest as refuge enhancing fish dispersal. The fish assemblages related to agricultural land and beaches were more similar. Sensory analysis is an essential tool in the wine evaluation. Although it has a long tradition, scientific methods for the control of sensory analysis are scarce and often not practical. This paper presents some new procedures that were developed during the accreditation process of the Tasting Panel of the Port Wine Institute. A análise sensorial constitui uma parte fundamental no processo de avaliação dos vinhos. No entanto, e apesar da longa tradição que é reconhecida à avaliação sensorial, os métodos existentes para o seu controlo são limitados e insuficientes. Neste artigo descrevem-se alguns dos métodos que foram desenvolvidos durante o processo de acreditação da Câmara de Provadores do Instituto do Vinho do Porto. L’analyse sensoriel est fondamentale dans le processus d’évaluation de vins. Et pourtant, bien qu’elle soit de longue date traditionnellement reconnue, les méthodes existant a son contrôle sont insuffisantes et limitées. Dans cet article on décrit quelques méthodes qui ont étés développés pendant la phase d’accréditation de la Chambre de Dégustateurs de l’Institut du Vin de Porto.
